I wanted to make a post introducing the characters of my fantasy trilogy: The Fergen. Coming soon!
ALL WORK IS COPYRIGHTED! DO NOT REPOST! (Reblogging is okay)
Vera: main character
Vera is a half fergen half human. She is very naive and joyful, but has little to no experience with the world. She lives in a abusive and neglectful household before she ran away with Rebekah. She then slowly starts to learn the real dangers of the world. Not only does she learn that people can be nice to her, but she also learns that there's people with even more ill intent than what she experienced that home. She is a peacemaker and always tries to see the best in people.
(Art made by my friend)
Tumblr media
Rebekah: side-main character
(My gosh she's my favorite. Technically my character) Rebekah is a person who is a half human and a half Phoenix. Her parents died when she was very young and she had to learn to live on the streets. She was abused repeatedly by many people that she came in contact with until she met Verity. Verity was an overwatcher Who is the main villain of the story. She was mistreated by him and did his dirty work until she figured out what he was actually doing. When she finally left him, she tried to go into dark jobs such as assassination and arson, she was feared amongst many and always shoved her trauma away in the back of her mind, forgetting it. She is very stoic and logical but can get worked up easily. She is powerful but oftentimes try to protect herself even if it means to harm others. She's not sure how she feels about Vera when they first meet, but Rebekah offers to help her before they are both killed. They go on an adventure together and Rebekah soon learns that there are good people in the world.
(This art is from some sort of league of legends thing, so I do not claim this art. But it captures her idea pretty well.)
Tumblr media
Garrison: side-main character
Literally everyone's favorite character I don't even understand why. Garrison is a strong and determined man, who grew up in a healthy household until his parents were killed by the authorities. He then ran away and trained under a man named Jake, who took care of him but was not nice to him. He held on to his morals that his parents taught him as he entered the dark jobs, hating every kill that he did. He then made it his life mission to save the realms from the OverWatcher, which he said out to find all of the Crest pieces in order to do so. He tag along with a dwabit Sabastion and search for the pieces until he ran into Vera and Rebekah. They tagged along with him as they went to complete the mission. Garrison is a half human half dragon, he has a bad temper and is very angry, and he also has a lot of trauma. However, he has good morals and he soon learns that sometimes people just need a little bit of love.
(Art made as a commission)
Tumblr media
Sabastion: side-main character
Sabastion is a half hobbit half dwarf, or a dwabit. He is the comedic relief character, and is very very stupid. He grew up to be the smartest dwarf in his time and invented many things, but wizards sought after his intelligence and took it from him, his family abandoning him after he was stupid soon after. He wandered around until he ran into Garrison, Who would protect him if he would cook for him. Sebastian stuck by Garrison side ever since, making more of a challenge for Garrison instead of helping, but Garrison enjoyed the company and like Sebastian so he kept him around. Sabastion learns that he can relearn the things that he wants knew and that you don't have to be perfect to be loved. He is very dumb and whiny and always hungry. However, he has some strange nuggets of wisdom and is very loyal.
(Art made by my friend)
Tumblr media
Lorry: side- character
I'm only including him here because he is very favorited amongst the fergen fandom. Lorry a prince and the middle child. He protects his kingdom and wants to bring his kingdom back together from the separation of the males and females. He's quirky and fun, but sometimes his intentions are unclear. He can be cocky at times and it drives Garrison insane. But he also knows how to talk people out the things, which comes in handy.
Tumblr media
Verity: Villain
Verity is an OverWatcher who seeks to destroy The realms. He's one of the few all-powerful creatures and is a master at manipulation. Over the course of a thousand years he has either executed or manipulated halflings, aka the species of our main characters, and how they are half a species and a half another. He wants the realms to destroy themselves, whether that is with or without the Crest. He seeks revenge after someone he lost, but evil runs deep in his heart as it does for all OverWatchers.

Wishy-Witchy Waters
Part 3
Part 1 Part 2
He was gone for quite some time. And as Sabastion sat himself down at the lip of the cave, he became worried that he wasn’t going to come back out.
But he did return after more waiting, Sabastion watching as Morven’s large form came back into view and he exited out of the mouth of the cave. He panted slightly and looked a bit frazzled but he gave Sabastion a warm smile, and before Sabastion could ask, he held up a large pearl the size of a sea urchin.
Sabastion’s eyes widen as he realizes that this had to be the pearl at the very end of the cave.
“Hold out your hands.” Sabastion did so without question, too stunned to argue, and Morven placed the pearl in his hands, it was quite hefty.
“Congratulations on getting the grand prize, looks like you bested me.”
“But I didn’t- I don’t understand.”
“You think no one cares about you. But I do. And I know this might be kinda inappropriate in this moment but I’ve had feelings for you, for a long time now. You don’t have to give me a response, I’m not telling you this so you’ll give me an answer, I’m telling you because I want you to know that I care. A lot. And I’m willing to bet other folks could care too if you gave them a chance. I know you feel alone, and I don’t know why, but I want to know. I want to know you, I want to be there for you, and I want you to feel like someone is there for you. That if you’re in need of a stupid fucking pearl, that at the very least you have one person who is willing to get you that stupid fucking pearl.”
Sabastion stared at Morven as he spoke, he was shocked by this sudden confession, he was truly caught off guard by it. He then stared down at the pearl that sat weightily in his hands and this object was now more than just a pearl.
Morven just placed his heart in Sabastion’s hands and he felt the need to now hold it with just a bit more care.
“I don’t know what to say…” he confessed.
“You don’t have to say anything, I’m sorry if I’ve made you uncomfortable now. But I just needed you to know that you’re not alone and I honestly couldn’t think of a more elegant way to go about it.” He says letting out a small nervous chuckle.
“… I don’t think I’m capable of returning your feelings in the same way at this moment.”
“I know, it’s ok.”
“But…’ Sabastion ran his fingers across the top of the pearl slowly as he mulled over his choice of words, ‘I might not be completely opposed to the idea of exploring this path and seeing where it leads us… If you are willing to be patient with me, I might need a quite a bit of time, it’s been a long time since I felt like I could trust another person like this.”
“That’s honestly more than I was hoping for. But if you’re willing, then I am as well. You take the lead and I’ll happily fallow.”
Sabastion stood back up and after looking at Morven for a moment, looked back at the festivities for a moment before looking back at him, “You want to ride the Ferris Wheel?”
Morven honestly was a whole slurry of feelings as the two of them approached the ferris wheel, he honestly didn’t expect the evening to go the way he it did.
If someone had told him after inviting the sea witch this morning, that he’d end up getting playfully competitive with him playing fair games, and that competitiveness would lead to an emotional brake down from the witch and then a confession of his feelings on his part, he’d have just not believed it.
But here they were and honestly it didn’t even turn out as bad as he feared it would, he even got a tentative maybe which gave him a real sense of optimism, now he just had to make sure he didn’t mess up that chance.
That was probably why he was now suddenly feeling nervous as the two of them got into the little gondola. As the wheel ascends, he and Sabastion exchange glances and Morven was quick to turn away all bashful. He had to quickly remind himself that there wasn’t anything inherently romantic about the situation, this still wasn’t really a date, at least he didn’t think it was.
The two sat in a bit of an awkward silence as their car slowly went up and they watched the festival below.
“So, what’s the next step here? Sorry, I’m just not sure what the correct course of action would be…” Sabastion said breaking the silence, he sat there with the pearl in his lap and fiddled with it showing that he was as uncomfortable as Morven was feeling.
“Erm, well I don’t know. This is kinda uncharted waters for me as well.’ He confessed with a small chuckle, ‘we don’t gotta do nothing if yah don’t want to. Like I said before, I want you to take the lead on this so we can go at whatever pace is most comfortable for you.”
Sabastion nods, he then brought his eyes down as he thought deeply on what he wanted, “… Perhaps we can do some back and forth questioning? I ask you a question and then you do the same for me?”
“Sure, that could be fun, are we allowed to pass certain questions or is this a ‘you have to answer no matter what?’ sorta thing?”
“Passing can be an option.”
“Alright, you go first then since it was your idea.”
Sabastion nodded and then thinks for a moment, “… Do you cook?”
“Yeah, I can cook decently enough, man’s gotta eat after all.’ He chuckled, ‘ok my turn, have you always lived here?”
“No, I moved here a while back. I used to live further to the west of here. Is art your only hobby or do you have others?”
“Oh, for sure! I enjoy reading, I do some gardening from time to time and I like to sing on occasion and some folks say it sounds nice enough. Ok, what about you? What hobbies do you have?”
“Ah, well, I’m not really one for hobbies… Reading I suppose? I’m more focused on my potion making craft than anything.”
“Has potion making always been your passion?”
“I believe it is my turn to ask a question.” Sabastion points out a bit teasingly. Morven lets out a small laugh, “I can see you’re a real stickler for rules. But alright fair.”
“Alright let’s see…’ Sabastion looked down for a long moment, looking like he was trying to decide on something before looking back up at him, ‘… are you a dugong type merman?”
That was a bit of an odd question Morven thought as he let out another light laugh threw his nostrils, “Of course, what else could I be?”
“An extremely lost manatee possibly.”
Morven laughed harder at that, “I’d say! But ok fair. What about you then smarty fin? You a shark type merman?”
“No. A Dolphin type.”
That caught him a bit off guard as he blinked at the witch, dumbfounded, Morven had thought that Sabastion was a shark. He certainly looked like a shark, what with the smooth dark grey tail and the sharp teeth.
He noticed that Sabastion was starting to frown and look uncomfortable the longer Morven just quietly stared at him so he pulled himself together, clearing his throat a little before he spoke.
“Oh, really? Sorry, other folks always called you ‘shark-like’ so I guess I just assumed…”
“I know, it why I sort of lead you to asking that particular question, apologies for that.”
“No, no, that’s fine! I can’t imagine how awkward that must be for yah.”
“Incredibly, other merfolk just assume I’m a shark because I act like a predator, but they seemed to very conveniently forget that dolphins are predators as well! My wild counterparts have just as sharp of teeth as I and they even hunt in packs for deep sea’s sake! Honestly if you ever took the time to observe dolphins more closely, you’d be surprised by just how ruthless they are. They kill babies of other species, and they’ll volley shark pups in the air for fun!”
“Oh wow, that’s kind of messed up.”
“Yes, well fortunately I don’t share that sort of ruthless nature with them. Still merfolk just assume that dolphins are cute and friendly, so when they see someone like me who doesn’t fit their picturesque view, they tend to not believe you and call you a shark instead…” Sabastion said that last part bitterly, his eyes looking off at nowhere in particular.
Morven felt bad for him, he couldn’t imagine how it would feel to be treated so differently based solely on how you looked and having folk not even bothering to ask, “Well, for what it’s worth… I’m sorry if I ever hurt you by thinking that way.” He said sincerely.
Sabastion looked up at him and his face softened, “thank you… And I’m sorry I treated you unkindly before, I too assumed things about you. Assumed you’d be cruel when all you’ve have even been in kind to me.”
“Well, that’s the great part about getting to know each other I guess…” Morven says, Sabastion face softened more at that and the smile that crossed his face was small, but it was warm.
The gondola reached the top of the wheel at this point and the two of them could see the festival twinkling below them, the evening was getting darker now so merfolk were setting up glow lanterns and everything twinkled like little stars.
As Morven watched this Sabastion quietly moved over to his half of the cart and sat on the same bench as him now. He then wordlessly placed his hand on top of his, giving it a hesitant but soft squeeze, Morven turned his hand to intertwine his fingers slightly with Sabastion’s and give his own light hesitant squeeze.
His hands were soft.

Haven’t drawn this guy in forever because I was working on the comic
Tumblr media
He’s smart and (overly)confident but no one ever said he was wise…
(Basically a situation where he does a lot dumb stuff but is actually top of the class because he’s smart and skilled, especially when it comes to magic)
Oh also he’s Carl’s older brother so that’s fun

handle it
@oya-oya-okay sorry it was late
ever sense the embarrassment of opening ceremony almost no one takes him seriously. even though he has proven to be quite the strategist when it came to defeating overblot's everyone still treats Ceil like a child.
which while he can use to his advantage he hates thats how others see him as. he joined the equestrian club to prove that he has a handle horses an doesn't need others help to do so!
however Sebek an Silver still treat him like a child Riddle has grown a little bit more respect for him sense the whole ob situation that happened. Ceil was determind to prove that he can handle his own thus leading to this moment.
"i want to race you!"
"race me?"
"with our horses end of the courtyard Silver can be the judge"
"what brought this on?" it wasn't a no just a why?
"i know others in this club have there doubts but i would like to show that i am more then capable of holding my own on horse back!"
"i couldn't refuse you not when you have such genuine determination in your eyes, very well i accept your challenge! this evening during club we shall race!"
--
Later that evening more then just club members were there it seemed like half the school showed up to spectate. including Sabastian, Grim, Ace and Deuce among with many others.
word of someone trying to race the housewarden spread rather quickly it would seem. this was a part of Ceils plan of course the more people watching the more people he can show just how capable he really is!
"obstacles?" riddle said as he saw Silver an some other students setting up
"WE FIGURED IT WOULD SHOW YOUR SKILLS MUCH BETTER IF YOU HAD TO MANUVOR AROUND THEM!"
"stop your shouting Sebek, an yes also we made sure they were short enough so you could easily vault over them with your horses"
"i see then we shant let it go to waste" Ceil said with a smile
"if my underclassmen can handle it then so can i the race shall continue!"
as they got on there horses an an got to the starting line "ready an GO!"
an they were off jumping over obstacles an having there horses move around the ones to big they seemed deadly focused the both of them. suddenly the reins on Ceil's horse snapped off in the middle of the race.
"should we stop the race professer?"
"no need he can handle it" Sabastion said in fact not even looking over at ceil instead petting Grim.
though he wasn't watching Ceil did in fact handle it grabbing the horse by the main gently kicking his foot an turning the horse the right direction an speeding off.
there was a long strech were there were no obstacles just the stretch of the feild before the finish line this was it!
they were neck an neck they both bolted over the finish line everyone rushed over asking who won then Silver put his head up in confusion.
"hm? oh right the race...i dozed off"
"YOU WHAT!!!?"
Riddle an Ceil dismounted there horsed before they talked
"even though yours Reins snapped off you continued forward regardless of which one of us won you showed how capable you are today" he held out his hand
Ceil took it an shook it "thank you Riddle!"

Wishy-Witchy Waters
Part 2
Part 1
🐟Author's note: I hope these aren't too long. These two parts plus the next part were originally from the same word doc and I was gonna pot it full and unbroken. But then I saw how long it was and decided to split it into three parts. let me know if they could be shortened more and I'll be sure to do that for future parts.🐟
Sabastion fussed with his appearance all afternoon, but now that he approached the village, he felt over dressed as he tugged on his dark green cape, it was nicer than the usual tattered brown cloak he wore, but still covered his scarred arms. He also added a small wrapping around his tail in a similar color to match the cloak and tied his long hair in a simple half updo.
Now he was getting close to the entrance of the festival and he felt like he stood out, he could see some of the other merfolk staring at him and he gave them a mean glare in return, which scared them off.
As he approached the entrance, he could already see Morven waiting for him, looking at his short auburn hair it looked like there was an attempt to tame the messy wavy locks, attempt being the key word here. He also wore a seashell pendant on his chest, some coral bracelets, and his big signature smile.
Sabastion definitely felt overdressed now, but it was too late to retreat and change his attire now as the two lock eyes and Morven swims up too him looking excited.
“Hey friend! You made it!”
“Of course, I am a man of my word…”
“I like the cape; green is a nice color on you. Goes great with the wrapping too.” Sabastion tugged at his cape again, his eyes darting to the side, “Thank you.”
They floated there for a moment in a bit of an awkward silence, Sabastion did not know why he was feeling so nervous, it was just the merchant inviting him on an outing. It wasn’t anything serious, was it? Before he had too long to wonder this Morven broke the silence.
“By the way, uh, since we’re going to spend the evening together… What’s your name?”
“My name?”
“Yeah, I don’t think I ever learned your name, which is kind of silly since you’ve been a customer of mine for so long.” Morven says looking embarrassed.
“…It’s Sabastion.”
“Sabastion… We’re going to have a fun time together, I promise!”
Morven then gestures Sabastion to fallow as the two enter the festival together, inside was lively as merfolk played games, went to different activity booths, and rode rides. Everything was bright, colorful and lively; this was the opposite of Sabastian’s comfort zone.
But Morven seemed to be taking the whole thing in stride as he led Sabastion threw the booths. “Look they got seashell crafting! Let’s go try that!” Morven said pointing out a booth where small children were painting shells.
“Isn’t that for children?” Sabastion points out. “Nonsense! No sign that says we cannot join in.”
“Don’t you already craft shells for a career? Surely you do not find this child’s booth that interesting compared to what you do daily.”
“Sure, I do! Come on it’ll be fun.” Morven cheers taking them up to the booth.
The two spent the next thirty minutes painting simple clam shells, they only offered the three primary colors, as well as black and white. Sabastion wasn’t entirely sure what to make, so he opted to paint the whole thing black, then he added a dotting of white and yellow on it, trying to paint a night sky.
Morven meanwhile was going creative with it, he used the little pallet they provided to mix some colors, making purple, pink and orange and then dabbed that onto his clam shell, making very purposeful strokes as he even added dabs of white and even runs his thumb through his paint brush, speckling the clam with bits of white.
Sabastion wasn’t entirely sure what he was making until it was done and Morven showed it too him with a look of pride. It was the surface sky when it was sunset, the oranges, pinks and purple melding together to make up the sky, then for an added touch he added clouds and the speckling of white suggested stars peeking out in the near night sky.
It was captivating and Sabastion couldn't help but stare at it, he then looked at Morven, “We both received the same art supplies, yes?”
Morven laughed, “Yeah! Though maybe I have an unfair advantage cause I paint all the time in my free time.”
“I did not know you were a painter.”
“Painting, crafting, it all kind of goes hand in hand, plus it’s relaxing.”
“I see.”
“Let me see your clam.”
Sabastion avoided eye contact as he slipped the clam shell in his cape, “I rather not…”
“Aw come now I’m sure it looks nice! May I take a gander?”
Sabastion hesitated but ultimately brought his clam back out, showing him his comparatively sloppy work. Morven looked it over and smiled though, “I love the use of yellow and white stars, also you added big and little stars which I like, really adds variance to the piece.”
“Thank you…”
“Of course, now, let’s go see what else there is to do!” Morven says as he pays and leads Sabastion to the next activity. They wondered for a bit before they both stopped at a booth called ‘Fisherman’s Luck’ where there was a little area set up to the side of a booth with a large ring.
Morven looked at Sabastion, “Wanna give that a try? Bet I could catch more fish than you.”
He raised a brow at Morven, was this merchant challenging him? A powerful sea witch? Sabastion could not help but feel a little smirk cross his face, “You think so? I highly doubt that.”
Morven gives a little shrug “Well then how about we put that too the test then… Unless you’re a little blenny fish.” He says with a playful smile.
Sabastion gives a half-amused laugh, “Cheeky. All right, lets.”
The two pay for one round each and Morven allows Sabastion to go first, standing in the circle he waits for the merman at the booth to start the game.
The merman pulls a string and a bunch of colorful toy fish dart up high above his head. They then begin to sink back down at varying speeds, blue fish sinking fairly slowly, yellow fish going a bit faster and the reds sinking the fastest.
Sabastion seeing this started trying to grab for the closest fish, he tries to go for the red fish first and he manages to catch most of them, but a few still hit the floor before he can.
Of course, him being focused on the red fish also meant he let a fair amount of yellow fish sink to the floor unnoticed until too late and he barely grabbed more than three before the merman at the booth called time.
Sabastion caught only thirteen fish in total and he didn’t even catch a single blue one, Sabastion, frustrated, turned and gave the merman at the booth an icy cold glare. The merman at the booth paled, yelped, and ducked behind his booth.
Morven seeing this quickly stepped in, “Hey, thirteen isn’t too bad, I’d say it’s pretty good for a first try.” Sabastion huffed, “It’s abysmal.”
“Well, hey, you might still do better than me, I haven’t tried it yet.”
Sabastion hummed annoyed but he did calm down and stepped off to the side which allowed the merman at the booth to come out of hiding and set the fish back up for Morven’s turn.
When Morven’s turn came the merman pulled the string and Morven proceeded to try to grab as many as he could, but he seemed to fall into the same trap Sabastion did as he went for the fastest sinking fish first and missing most of the rest. When the time was up Morven only caught twelve in total.
“Darn and I was so close too!” he said with a small smile and a chuckle.
Sabastion hummed giving him a look, did the merchant throw the game to make him feel better? He would not know whether to find that insulting or touching.
The suspicion must’ve been written all over his face because Morven playfully held his hands up defensively, “I gave it my best effort I promise. I bet if we went another round, we’d do better?”
He gave it some thought but quickly shook his head, “Let find something else, I don’t like this game.”
“Alright, no problem my friend!”
The two made their way away from that game and went looking for a few more. They did find a few more that Sabastion found a lot more enjoyable, a harpoon toss which he did decently at, an image matching game that Morven absolutely nailed, he had a surprisingly sharp eye for a detail that Sabastion found impressive, as well as a few others.
Sabastion found that he was a lot more competitive than he realized, but as it turned out Morven was just as competitive, so the two of them had a lot of fun butting heads and trying to outdo each other.
He preferred it this way though, since it meant that Morven was not holding himself back in some sort of effort to appease him like a lot of other merfolk did out of fear.
By the time the two of them reached the latest game booth they were tied in the number of games and both carried a few prizes and trinkets form other booths. They needed a tie breaker and this next game what just the thing for it.
‘The Deep Dive’ is a game that used a cave system that opens just on the outskirts of the festival. In this game the cave was littered with strategically placed pearls, starting off small and getting bigger the deeper you went into the cave. Merfolk would swim down into the caves and try to go as deep down as they could to collect the biggest pearl.
You got to keep any pearls you found, and the one who could reach the very end of the deep and winding cave could get their hands on the biggest pearl of them all, it’s so hard to get that not everyone can reach it every year and sometimes the prize will sit down there for two or more years without being claimed; this year’s pearl has apparently been sitting there for five whole years unclaimed and whoever can manage to reach that pearl could win some major bragging points.
Hearing all that Sabastion wanted those bragging rights, not just over Morven, but everyone in the village, “I’m going to get that pearl.” Sabastion states.
“Oh, will yah? Not if I get it first.” Morven says which earned a scoff from Sabastion, “How about we race for it then? You think you can keep pace with me?”
"Keep pace with you? Do you not realize to whom you are challenging?"
“You may be long and sleek but don’t underestimate a dugong.”
“I’ll believe it when I see it.”
With that last remark the two lined up against the mouth of the cave and got themselves ready, the two of them gave each other before diving down and racing threw the cave system.
As Sabastion darted threw the cave, he was indeed surprised to see Morven was keeping a decent pace with him, he was quite fast for a dugong type merman who he had assumed would be as slow as his wild counterpart.
But that still wasn’t enough as Sabastion smirked back at him and then kicked it up a notch, slowly creating a gap between the two, his powerful dolphin tail allowing him to race ahead with ease.
This lasted about a hundred feet or so, making his way down deeper into the cave, when suddenly a bout of extreme nausea hit him like a tidal wave and his abdominal muscles clenched in painful cramps causing Sabastion to freeze up.
He froze up for so long that Morven was able to catch up, though he also comes to a sudden stop when he saw the distress on the witch’s face, “Sabastion?? Are you alright?” he asks alarmed, placing a hand on his back as the witch pales.
“I-I’m going to be-” Sabastion’s starts, but quickly covers his mouth as he feels the urge to vomit start to rise with alarming speed, mouth and eyes watering. He pushes Morven to the side and starts making his way back up to the mouth of the cave.
He barely makes it back out of the cave before he violently retches, body heaving as his hands hit the floor. He continues to heave for an uncomfortable amount of time as his body aches from the sensation.
Finally, he’s able to get himself under control and takes a few deep breaths, his mind foggy and confused, what had happened? Then he placed a hand on his still cramping stomach and suddenly remembered his condition.
He mentally cussed, diving down that deep and racing like that had obviously not been good for the unborn child within him, and his body had decided to punish him thusly.
Still taking deep breaths he let out a frustrated sound, he had been able to successfully forget about his troubles all evening, but now because of his carelessness he’s been made aware of it once more.
He hated the sudden surge of feelings, mostly angry at the fact he’d managed to make himself so ill, but also at the surprising concern he had about the fetus and whether or not his actions had harmed it in some way which confused and frustrated him.
A moment later Morven appeared at the mouth of the cave as well, and seeing the mess Sabastion had made came over and placed a hand on his back, “You alright??”
“I’m… fine.” He forced out between breaths.
“Do you need me to get you anything? I can swim over and get-”
“I said I’m fine.” Sabastion snaps as he gets up.
“Hey, it’s alright friend, that sort of stuff happens to the best of us. Diving deep can make anybody feel sick.” he reassures.
Sabastion opened his mouth to speak but suddenly felt himself become overwhelmed, this was all too much; he quickly turned, not wanting the merchant to see him as he started to cry. Though the trembling of his shoulders made it apparent that he was.
He couldn’t stop himself and much like moments before he found himself unable to control the upheaval of words escaping his mouth.
“I just wanted to feel normal. I wanted to have fun and not think about my troubles for a moment! I-I wanted to get that pearl so bad. I just wanted that stupid fucking pearl. Then maybe for once people could recognize me as something other than a freak! I hate this! I hate it! No one cares! No one cares about me! I hate it here!” Sabastion cried out, spewing forth a rambling of feelings as his body shook and his heart ached, he couldn’t stop himself even as he realized in the back of his mind this had nothing to do with the pearl.
The atmosphere was heavy as the only sounds between the two mermen were Sabastion’s sobs.
“… Wait here.” Was all Morven said, and when Sabastion turned to look at him, he saw the dugong as he disappeared back threw the mouth of the cave.
Sabastion floated there confused as he watched him disappear, but remained where he was. His sobs eventually stopped and Sabastion remained in place, trying not to sniffle so pathetically as he waited for the merchant to return.

My little lesbian heart is sensing some sexual tension between my character and Nellie Oggspire 🤔 the way she is staring at my character and laughing. Shame we can't have romances in the game because I would totally get them together or maybe I would be straight in-game and go for Sabastion Sallow 😄🤣🤣🤣

The Girl Who Got Frozen
Tumblr media
Summary: In the summer, Shauna found purpose in the shed. In the winter, she uses it as an excuse to live in the past. Or another one-shot of how Shauna Shipman became Shauna Bates.
Warnings: Mentions of Canon death/hallucinations/corpses
Word Count: 1.1k
Cross-posted on AO3
It happened all at once. Snow fell and Jackie froze to death and Shauna was suddenly stuck in time.
When Shauna was sixteen she got really into saints. Tragic, morbid, figures loved after death. It was interesting and Shauna rarely questioned why she liked something, only that she hoped it made her seem deeper than she felt.
One time she was flipping through some book she found with those black and white old-style illustrations she loved and she stumbled upon the Forty Martyrs of Sabaste.
They shared the same story as a lot of saints - they refused to renounce their faith and were sentenced to death - but Shauna remembered this story in particular because the method of execution was strange.
Forty Catholics were made to lay in a nearly frozen pond after openly confessing their faith. Then they were given an option for redemption: if they renounced their beliefs, a warm bath awaited them; but at daybreak, they were all dead. So, the forty frozen bodies were burned and cast into a nearby river.
Shauna always wondered what those forty people must have been thinking as they willingly felt their organs shut down from the frigid waters they were submerged in. They probably prayed.
Shauna stared straight ahead, seeing nothing but her memories playing on repeat in her head, like watching a movie at home. At the end of the reel she would rewind the tape and sit idly as the memories played in reverse with no sound.
She didn’t feel the log under her cold sweatpants. She didn’t think about the meat that was slowly dwindling every time she split it into twelve more tiny pieces. She didn’t feel the chilling breeze across her pregnant belly. She didn’t think about Jackie’s body propped up in between the corners of the logs.
Shauna remembered the Forty Saints of Sabaste not even because she thought it was weird or strange she realized, but because it was kind of pathetic.
“Well, it is. I mean you have a warm bath waiting for you, just lie . God would understand.”
The chipper yet cutting voice of Jackie Taylor sliced the air, leaving a gash over Shauna’s chest and she gasped. Reality shifted as she teleported from the past back to the meat shed in the middle of the wilderness. Her eyes jumped to the body in the corner of the small alcove. Rigor mortis had set in and her best friend’s limbs were stiff, locked in place. She would have hated that. Jackie was always stretching, always worried she was going to pull a muscle.
“It’s important to stay flexible.”
Shauna stared at the body of her best friend, cocking her head. Her chocolate brown eyes widened in fear. It was all in her mind, she knew. Shauna knew Jackie better than anyone so obviously -
“Oh, that’s funny.”
Shauna gazed at Jackie. Frozen Jackie in her varsity soccer jacket.
“What is?” She asked shakily. Her eyes glazed over, tracing the sharp features of the corpse until the figure was only a vague image of her friend.
“The fact that you think you know me, Shipman,” Jackie’s voice taunted.
“You’re my best friend,” Shauna whispered, her bottom lip quivering.
“Oh really? That’s not what you said before you kicked me out of the cabin,” Jackie’s voice stabbed her brain and Shauna’s eyes watered. She could even picture her facial expressions she would use. The way she would toss her sun kissed waves.
“I didn’t mean it. We were in a fight,” Shauna defended, her voice heavy with emotion, “We would have made up -“
“That’s convenient for you to say. You’re not the one who froze to death.”
Shauna swallowed hard, feeling her heart shrink into itself.
“It’s true,” Shauna’s voice cried, but it was barely audible.
Tears began to flow down Shauna’s frosted cheeks, unstoppable in the face of her own delusion.
This was her fault. This was her fault. This was her fault. This was her fault.
Shauna’s breathing was rapid, running away from her and she couldn’t breathe.
Her fault. Her fault. Her. Fault.
“Woah, chill out. You’re being crazy right now.”
Shauna choked on the heaviness of her tongue. She tried to breathe, sucking up the wet snot that threatened to droop down her lip.
Through bleary brown eyes she could swear Jackie was blinking at her with her typical expression of judgmental warmth.
“Okay - okay. There’s no need for waterworks, alright?”
Shauna didn’t feel her body as she stood from her place by the bear meat and took the few steps across the shed to sit on the log beside Jackie.
“You know I didn’t mean what I said,” Shauna told the corpse. She sniffled, wiping her eyes and nose with the edge of her sweatshirt.
“Obviously,” Jackie replied slyly, rolling her eyes, “what would you do without me?”
Shauna let out a scratchy laugh, deep and laced with the pain of her clenching heart. Her stomach was empty, but somehow still a heavy pit holding her in place. Tears welled up again, and through blurry vision she watched Jackie brush back a piece of her dark brown hair from her eyes.
“I honestly don’t know,” Shauna choked out.
Shauna had never been a crier. In fact, she had always been proud of how unaffected she was by things that made others bawl their eyes out. Now she couldn’t stop crying. Feeling the infinite flow when she shouldn’t have anything left to give. Her head was hurting, everything hurt. Everything -
“Hey, hey.” Jackie caught her attention again. “You don’t have to worry. I’m here.” Shauna wiped her eyes, peering at a smiling Jackie in her blue and yellow soccer jacket, her open heart pendant hanging gently across her collarbone. “I’m here as long as you need, okay?”
Shauna gave a small smile, wiping away the last of her tears. She could finally breathe again.
“Okay.”
“You know I didn’t mean it either, right? You’re the best friend I’ve ever had,” Jackie said, eyes gleaming with affection.
“Yeah. I love you, Jackie.” Shauna sighed, leaning in to lay her head on Jackie’s shoulder.
“Love you too, Shipman. Who knew you were such a big softie?” Jackie nudged Shauna and she blushed, looking down. “Now, can we go back to the Saints thing? Because I don’t get it. Is lying, like, against the rules or something because otherwise it just makes no sense.” Shauna shook her head, a simple chuckle escaping her chapped lips.
“Um, yeah. They’re Catholic, Jackie,” Shauna answered, raising her head and her eyebrows as she explained, “and lying is a sin ?” She dragged her words for emphasis.
“Oh,” Jackie pursed her lips. “Right.”
Then Shauna and Jackie made eye contact, bursting into laughter that echoed into the white powdery abyss of the wilderness beyond the meat shed. Shauna no longer had to rely on the past. She didn't have to rewind the tape, she could make new memories with Jackie.
