Reddit is going public via the IPO route. Last year, the CEO got $193 million, but moderators are not paid and expected to work free past IPO. Only some moderators and active users in the USA can apply for Reddit's initial public offering to buy stock at a special price. Most Reddit users are motivated by fake karma points and likes. Also, they banned almost all unofficial Reddit mobile clients. Meanwhile, the CEO profits while everyone provides free labor.
Until last year, Reddit used to encourage many users to guilt-tripping them to buy their gold coins. Now we know who got paid with those gold coins. It was for the CEO's exorbitant salary. Lmao. I even brought some coins out of that guilt trip. I feel like a sucker . LOL.
You can't browse NSFW subreddits without logging into your account. On Reddit, users share their adult content for free, while the CEO and management team benefit from the platform. This is why federated social media is important. One corporation should not have too much power to dictate how and what we are allowed to view without an account.
I really hope Reddit burns down. The CEO is a real POS who refuses to pay wages to Reddit moderators while taking $193 million salary per year. Even past IPO Reddit is not going to pay any money to moderators.

To tackle climate change we need a data-driven approach, using technology to help decarbonize the sectors that contribute to it. The transportation sector is the largest contributor to climate change in the US and Europe. Simply put, travel is in need of a long-overdue update. The good news is that, in 2024, we will kickstart that much needed moment for green mobility.
The International Energy Agency estimates 55 percent of the reductions needed to cut all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 are linked to everyday consumer choices, particularly driving.
Over two-thirds of consumers cite the lack of electric charging stations as the biggest barrier to buying electric vehicles (EVs). However, new legislation, such as the European Green Deal and universal EV charging standards in the US, will help to put new chargers on the road.
The infrastructure is growing, but the information is still catching up. That’s why, to empower drivers with the information they need, Google has updated its Search experience to make it easier to research the costs and incentives associated with EVs. Google Maps also shows nearby EV chargers and offers eco-friendly routing—providing directions optimized for fuel or battery efficiency. In 2024, drivers will not only be able to more easily purchase an electric vehicle, they will be able to more easily charge them. Early results show there’s potential to reduce the number of vehicle stops by up to 30 percent, lowering emissions for up to 30 million car trips monthly. Yet, we cannot focus exclusively on cars—providing sustainable public transport is also vital. Nowhere is the value clearer than in Japan, a leader in high-speed rail. One passenger traveling between Tokyo and Osaka emits 4.2 kilograms of carbon dioxide—one-twelfth the emissions of a passenger on a Tokyo-Osaka flight. That's why it's so important for people to have information on alternative, climate-friendly modes of transport at their fingertips—including comparable train routes, biking, and walking suggestions. This also illustrates the potential impact of projects like the Brightline train, designed to connect Los Angeles and Las Vegas by electric, high-speed rail.
Along with opportunities on roads and rails, in 2024 we will make progress on our skies. Aviation is responsible for 3.5 percent of global warming—35 percent of which is non-emissions related. The culprit? Contrails—the feathery white trails created by airplanes. They may look harmless, but they trap heat inside the Earth’s atmosphere. Using AI-based technology, Google partnered with American Airlines and Breakthrough Energy to reduce contrails by 54 percent—achieving the first proof point of verifiable and cost-effective contrail avoidance. Delta Airlines, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and others are also working to tackle the issue. In 2024, clean mobility will move closer to the norm across transportation, not the exception.

Two days had passed since the parole hearing. I was sitting by myself in the recreation area during free time when Scott turned up beside me.
“Hey inmate” he quipped.“I hear you’re finally getting out of this place. Where you going to stay?”
“For starters I think I might try one of the boarding houses downtown. When I get a bit more established I’ll look into finding an apartment”.
“you don't want to shack up with me?” Scott asked.
 “The parole Nazis insisted upon electronic monitoring” I replied. “I don’t think the parole officer would think it appropriate for me to be shacked up with a CO.  He would know where I was at all times”.
“That’s a pity” Scott answered. y“A boarding house would be a bit too public for what I have in mind. I guess we’ll have to try and find a quiet room in the jail after your teaching sessions. I’ll catch up with you later”.
Another CO soon approached me and advised that my parole officer was here to see me. He escorted me to an interview room where a mountain of a man was waiting.
“William, isn’t it?” the parole officer said as he got up to meet me. He was easily 6 foot 6, and broad across the shoulders. I shook his proffered hand, his firm grip leaving me in no doubt that messing with him was not a good idea.
“Yes Sir” I replied.
“My name is Mitch Evans. I will be handling your parole over the next year. You play ball with me during that time things will go smoothly. Step out of line and you’ll be back here before you know what’s hit you. Understood?”
“Yes Sir” I answered.
“You will be discharged tomorrow and delivered to special transit accommodation, where you may stay for a week until you find your own accommodation. Prior to your discharge you will be fitted with an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet. It will be your responsibility to ensure that it always remains charged, and should you believe it to be malfunctioning in any way, it is your responsibility to notify the monitoring center. Should a GPS signal fail to be constantly received you will, once located, be returned to this jail, no questions asked. Is that clear?”
“Perfectly Sir” I replied.
“I would also remind you of your curfew requirements – 6pm to 6am. If for any reason you can not meet these, you will contact me in advance. Failure to do so will land you back here” he continued. “Should I turn up at your place of residence at any time you are provide me full access, and submit to any breathalyzer or drug tests I ask you to undertake. You will be allowed use of one mobile phone,  which is to be unlocked and presented to me for inspection on request. As detailed by the panel you are not to approach in any way any member of the Allen family, nor fraternize with any former inmate of any prison within the State. You are also not to enter any establishment where alcohol is served. You are to travel to and from work, or any place  for purchase of necessities by the shortest practical route. Understood?”
“Yes Sir” I answered.
“Here are my contact details” he said, offering me his business card.  “I hope we can have a mutually co-operative relationship”
“Yes Sir” I mutely replied.
“Any questions?” he asked.
“No Sir” I replied. I had done parole before, so I knew it involved doing exactly what you were instructed to do by your parole officer. From my past experience provided you co-operated parole officers loosened up a bit. But initially they were total Nazis.
“I will check on you in the transit accommodation. See you then” he stated. With that the CO escorted me back to the cell block.
I then got summoned to the Warden’s office. We made arrangements that I would continue my teaching role next week. I was given a staff identity card and instructions on how to enter the jail as a staff member. Judging by the security checks, it wasn’t much removed from being an inmate.
At dinner that night I said farewell to several inmates I had got to know over the years. It wasn’t a total farewell as I would still be teaching some of hi them next week.
The following morning Scott arrived at my cell. “Time to leave civilian” he joked. He escorted me to the discharge area. I signed the discharge paperwork, acknowledging all the parole conditions. After that I went to the property department where I was given the clothes I had been arrested in 6 years ago. They fitted loosely – I had clearly lost weight in the intervening years. They felt strange. I had worn little but prison uniforms for the past 6 years, but it was liberating to now be wearing civilian clothing again. My mobile phone and other items were also returned. I was advised my parents had sold my car when I was convicted, and the funds had been deposited into a trust account at a local bank. The jail also provided me a check for the balance of my inmate account – largely Scott’s money.
Then came the hard part. A representative from a company supplying ankle bracelets appeared. The guy was devoid of personality, and methodically pulled the item out of its box snapped it open, then equally quickly snapped it closed around my left ankle. He turned a key in it, which locked it on. He presented me with a charger and explained how to use it, and advised how any attempt to remove it would trigger an alarm at the monitoring center. He also provided me with contact details to report any malfunctions. Then came a bill for $50 for the first month’s hire. I hadn’t  expected that I would have to pay to have the contraption locked on my ankle. I was frankly glad to see him depart once he had finished.
In due course I was escorted to the prison entrance. Scott had his cruiser out the front, and drove me to the transit accommodation. “I suppose we’ll see you next week for your next teaching lesson” he said as he dropped me off.
“Sure thing” I replied. “And I’ll arrange to transfer the inmate account balance to your bank account“.
“Thanks. See you Monday” he responded.
I walked into the transit accommodation, where a knarled old man stood behind front desk. “I expect that you might be William Beck?” he queried.
“Indeed I might” I replied.
“Room 24, to the right” he said, handing me a set of keys.”Make sure you’re out by this time next week” he added.
The room was fairly basic. It had a single bed and a small table. A second room in one corner had a toilet, washbasin and shower. Attached to the wall was a small television, however slightly larger than the one I’d purchased in State Prisons that I had with me.
A sound I hadn’t heard in years suddenly perforated the silence. It was my mobile phone ringing. The staff at County had kindly charged it, and arranged for some minutes on it. I pressed the “Accept call” button.
“Hi Dad” I answered, then listened to his reply. “Sure thing. Would love to do lunch. Just not anywhere that serves alcohol.”

Driver Shortage In Ile-de-France: RATP Offers Money For A Good Resume

This is historic: the RATP is creating a cooperation system to respond to the lack of bus drivers in Paris and Ile-de-France. "An exceptional situation," according to Paris' independent transport authority.
Unprecedented Recruiting Difficulties
“Let's Sponsor a Winner”, is the name of this unprecedented collaboration that took place at the RATP Bus Centers. More specifically, salaried RATP bus drivers can submit resumes to boost recruitment amid a staffing crisis. RATP, as well as our subsidiaries RATP Dev and RATP Cap IDF, are facing unprecedented difficulties in recruiting bus drivers. This is a major concern of the group, explains Acrobat Feed to Actu Paris.
According to the Union of Public and Railway Transport (UTP), 8,000 bus drivers are missing in France, which could cause difficulties in transport at the beginning of the school year. So the RATP decided to mobilize drivers by offering money in exchange for a "good CV". 
If nominated, the agent through whom the CV was submitted will receive a bonus of €150. If the nominated candidate is still active after one year, an additional €150 will be paid to the agent who submitted the resume. So the 300 euros are at stake. The RATP for actu Paris specifies that agents can deposit "one or more CVs".
Employ And Rain As Many Bus Drivers As Possible.
Since the beginning of the year, the RATP has launched a massive recruitment campaign in which 1,500 drivers will be hired with a fixed-term or permanent contract. To this end, Régie carries out work as close as possible to the regions and according to the needs of the centres. For the first time, hiring becomes local with Taawun and no longer regional.
RATP is fully mobilized and allocates significant resources to recruit and train as many bus drivers as possible, in order to guarantee a service offer in line with our objectives and quality of service.
Thus, many actions are carried out, such as partnerships with job boards and with Pôle emploi, poster campaigns or the organization of recruitment forums. In addition, the company is committed to helping young people start their lives and training them to integrate into professional life. At least 600 spaces are being offered in 2022 on the alternative route for bus drivers' locations.

The dangers of disgrace- Can you save the family patrimony ?
Royal favour was so actively cultivated because political credit opened the doors to the further accumulation of wealth and even those well beyond the comparatively narrow confines of the court received pensions or other marks of distinction which meant that disgrace could have serious financial consequences. By the seventeenth century, France was governed by the rule of law in as much that life and property were not subject to royal whim. Rather than justice being exercised by the monarch personally, authority was delegated to courts and other individuals or institutions even if it was always subject to evocation should the need arise. Shocking exceptions such as the assassinations of the Guise or of Concini on the orders of Henri III and Louis XIII respectively were, it is true, covered by the flimsiest of legal fig leaves, thereafter trials of one form or another had been held for many of those who had fallen into the profoundest disgrace. For all of their theoretical power, Bourbon kings saw themselves as absolute monarchs not tyrants or despots, and property or offices were rarely confiscated in the manner of Russian tsars or Ottoman sultans. Yet if this offered French elites some degree of security, disgrace could still leave the family patrimony highly vulnerable.
Both the duc de Montmorency in 1632 and the Grand Condé in 1653 were condemned for the crime of lese-majesty after taking up arms against the crown and the potential consequences for their family patrimonies were nothing short of catastrophic. Before his execution, the rebel duc was declared "deprived of all rank, honours, and offices, the duchy of Montmorency extinguished and reunited to our crown and all of his other estates, seigneuries, properties, and goods, confiscated in our name." Condé fared no better and he was deprived of his "honours and governorships" by a royal declaration of November 1652 and dispossessed of "all his houses, lands, and properties to the profit of the king" by an arrêt of the Parlement of Paris in March 1654. If such draconian sentences could be handed down to two of the most prestigious men in the kingdom, it is easy to imagine the potential vulnerability of those lower down the social hierarchy, and when faced by harsh public and legal condemnation saving the family fortune was no easy task.
Guilty of lese-majesty, and with Richelieu determined to make an example, Montmorency lost his head and any right to influence the future destination of his patrimony. Yet rather than bolster the royal domain, Louis XIII respected the wishes of the rebel's father, who before his own death had planned to divide his inheritance amongst his three daughters should his son die without heir. By this route, a substantial portion of the vast Montmorency inheritance had passed to the Bourbon-Condé via Charlotte-Marguerite de Montmorency, wife of the prince de Condé. It was their son, the great military captain, who had by his own treason during the Fronde endangered that inheritance and much else besides. Moreover, unlike the duc in 1632, he had not expiated his crimes on the block and was instead fighting in Spanish service against Louis XIV's armies in Flanders while his brother, Conti, and most of his relatives and clients were suspect having participated in one way or another in his revolt. There was, therefore, a genuine danger that the family patrimony would be broken up or lost.

The House of Bourbon-Condé rose to the challenge. The task of safeguarding the family fortune was rendered possible in large measure because the judgement confiscating Condé's possessions was issued in absentia and despite its draconian terms it left the door "open for repentance" and allowed five years for an appeal to be lodged. That delay bought valuable time, even if the presence of the notoriously avaricious Mazarin waiting in the wings was a warning that it might not be enough. In response, the princely House and its entourage was mobilized and it promptly began to squirrel away jewels, furniture, works of art, and other valuables, literally stripping châteaux and hôtels and hiding anything of value away from the prying eyes of its enemies. Legal manoeuvres allowed the family to open up another front as almost everyone from the prince de Conti to household servants took the opportunity to make a legal claim against the absent Condé's estate. Having made his peace with the cardinal, Conti cemented his new found favour by marrying Marie-Anne Martinozzi, one of Mazarin's nieces. While hardly a prestigious match, the political advantages were all too tangible as he could now stake a claim to the offices and titles forfeited by his brother. By these and other means, the Condé fortune was saved from rapine and when, in 1660, the prince was permitted to re-enter the kingdom disaster had been averted. His rehabilitation, which had been negotiated as part of the Peace of the Pyrénées concluding the long war with Spain, was a rare example of political disgrace being ended by diplomatic treaty. It would, however, take several years before the damage to Condé's political and financial credit had been repaired, and he was once more trusted to serve at the head of Louis XIV's armies.

As far as brilliant ideas went, that had not been one of Melissa’s greatest moments. The local club owner had many undeniable laurels in how she had managed to get as far as she had despite the clear disadvantages Melissa possessed when compared to her competitors - and yet, it wasn’t until recently that the woman realized what an invisible blessing she had been granted.
The Honey Bee Inn - her place had been located on Kazama Family turf; not something the brunette happened to be aware of when she acquired the place where her establishment would eventually be incorporated at (despite being highly recommended by both Kazuki and Yuya when she made her first offer). Now, with the yakuza turmoil that had taken over Kamurocho, ripples were affecting civilians such as herself.
Particularly ones like Melissa - pretty women in the Kazama Family’s area with profitable businesses were the first thing on Kanda Tsuyoshi’s list of targets for his own expansion plan. A couple of her girls had reported being stalked and followed after their shifts, another employee had been verbally threatened on the way to the nearest subway station. To make things worse - some of Kanda’s thugs had started coming to the club now, with an air about them that dared anyone to deny them entrance and their pick of the hostesses.
Melissa was not blind - she knew a power play when she saw one, and there was no easy way out. Unless she did something, they would continue to come and scare away the customers and endanger her staff. As someone who had been used to dealing with yakuza visiting her as a hostess and who thought to be accustomed to their tactics, the woman brokered a meeting with a family lieutenant. Kazuki had said they had been pestering him about a sale, so maybe this was their goal too; one way to find out only.
The ex-hostess thought that setting the meeting at a public place would ensure her safety - an easy way to call for help if needed, particularly when she had informed others of her location beforehand if she took too long to come back. The guy from the Nishikiyama Family side suggested the Shichifuku Parking Lot, and Melissa did not see any problems with that - the deal was sealed, and she walked over to the place on the right date and time.
It was, very predictably, a set-up - Kanda’s lieutenant did not show alone as he implied, and his minions were very clearly looking to drag Melissa to one of the love hotels not far away where their patriarch was supposedly waiting for more private negotiations. Before she could walk away, they were already grabbing her purse and mobile phone, ostensibly giving her no way to access any of her back-up plans. To her credit, the club owner did not look scared - she was furious, and about to start lying her way out of it by bringing in the US government into everything if she needed to.
Only she never got more than a few words out - a few heads turned and the woman did the same, seeing Akiyama Shun of all people joining them. If every passerby seemed to ignore the commotion caused by Kanda’s men, the loan shark took the opposite route - he paused to catch his breath, some choice expletives about nicotine and addiction reaching their ears as he moved towards the group, smiling through most of the time. 
First, Akiyama asked them to let Melissa go (as well as her belongings) because they had a date (which was a lie; she had never scheduled anything with him for that day, she was sure of it); then he followed up with how he was willing to let everyone go and resolve that big misunderstanding with some good, old diplomacy (clearly she was waiting for him and he ran a bit late, that was all); and finally, he sighed and complained that none of the guys seemed to be thinking their options through when they decided they’d rather go ten on one and knock the living daylights out of Kamurocho’s most illustrious loan shark.
For the next few minutes, the ex-hostess just stood there, watching something that felt straight out of an action move; Melissa was aware that Akiyama was an agile guy given how he sometimes picked stuff before they fell to the floor and how fluidly he seemed to move - but she had never thought it extended to street fighting. The woman had half expected him to be bloody, bruised and with broken limbs by the time these thugs were finished and yet he was the only standing with the rest of Kanda’s thugs sprawled on the pavement. 
It didn’t take long for most of them to acknowledge a pitiful defeat, scrambling to their feet and running away as fast as they could while screaming that they knew where Sky Finance was. The brunette was still rooted to her spot, observing everything with the elegance of a gaping fish - it was only when Akiyama was face to face with her (and returning her purse, too) that she regained the ability to move, eyeing the moneylender as if he had suddenly acquired horns or grown a tail.
“...What the fuck, Shun.”
“I’m sorry...?” he inquired with a sincerely confused look; honestly, it might have been the first time he seemed to be uncertain about what she meant or her goals there. In a way, it was pretty adorable even if he was dusting off his slightly dirty jacket and combing hair back into place after the brawl, “Did I mess that up? I thought you were in trouble with these yakuza, your manager called Elise about your... Diplomatic endeavors,” he seemed to be choosing his words carefully, almost as if he was afraid of triggering an impulsive reaction out of Melissa by sounding as if he was insulting her intelligence.
Akiyama was only partially successful - the fellow club owner did not feel offended, but she did react in a somewhat harsh and unexpected manner by grabbing him by the lapels of his jacket, pulling him for a kiss. It was no timid, brief lip-lock either - Melissa actually did it as if her life depended on it, only allowing him to part when there was enough of the taste of the nicotine on her own tongue. She was slightly breathless as a result, face lightly flushed - but not nearly as out of air as the moneylender (well, only one of them had smoked and fought other ten guys in the past fifteen minutes).
“Have you always known how to do this? Kicking the shit out of the shady guys, I mean - and you never told me?” the brunette seemed still incapable of processing the fact that Akiyama Shun, former banker turned into financing entrepreneur and Elise manager... Could handle his own in a street brawl. And not only he did it well, he did it with flair and in a way that was frankly awesome to watch.
Melissa was turned on, to be perfectly sincere.
“You know what - don’t answer that just yet,” the brunette approached him, but this time her hands were gentle: some rumples on his shirt were fixed, a few smudges left behind by dirt were removed by her digits and she stepped back when Akiyama looked his presentable self again, taking his arm as she was known to do while they walked around, “You’re having that date now - and you’re telling me about these moves and everything else I don’t know about you. I’ll make it worth your while - a secret of yours for one of my own, how does that sound?”
Akiyama hummed with interest, taking the lead and keeping their arms locked while they exited the parking lot. Going by the amused twinkle in her eye, Melissa was fairly sure she had his attention for the next few hours of their evening.
