Now that I'm back from the gem and mineral show, here are all the Cool Rocks I came home with!
Tumblr media
A cute little coral fossil! He looks like a cauliflower.
Tumblr media
A Keokuk geode! These geode beds aren't far from where I live, and it's always fun to have local specimens.
Tumblr media
Phosphosiderite! This purple stone comes from Chile. It's so soft that it has to be stabilized with resin before it's cut. This one is a cross section of a botryoidial formation!
Tumblr media
Speaking of botryoidial, this Hematite! Botryoidial means it has a bubbly shape kind of like a bunch of grapes. The faces of the bubbles on this pieces are super shiny and metallic.
Tumblr media
Dendritic chalcedony, from Turkey! It's a white chalcedony full of dendrites - branching formations of manganese that look kind of like trees!
Tumblr media
A cabochon for my cab collection! This one is made from a material sometimes called "ajooba jasper." The pattern is actually a cross section of a bunch of colorfully jasperized bivalve fossils!
Tumblr media
Speaking of jasper, this one is Blue Mountain jasper, from Oregon! The circles in this stone are what’s known as an “egg pattern,” and jaspers which have them (Blue Mountain, Imperial jasper, and a few others) are collectively known as “fine jaspers,” the most valuable jaspers in the world.
Tumblr media
Hyalite opal! This stuff forms water-clear spheres that look like jelly.
Tumblr media
It fluoresces bright green under UV light!
Now to show off this year's haul of awesome agates!
Tumblr media
Dryhead agate, from the Bighorn Mountains in Montana! This agate is named after the many bison skulls found in the area. A weird shaped guy with awesome red and orange bands.
Tumblr media
Bou Lili agate, from Morocco! I like the name of this one. Soft banding and very subtle, muted colors. I've heard that this locale can produce peachy colors too.
Tumblr media
Bear Canyon agate, from the Pryor Mountains in Montana! Agates from this locale have very stark black and white banding.
Tumblr media
Red Fox agate, from Argentina! Sometimes this material is also called "crater agate" because the area it comes from is near the crater of an ancient volcano.
Tumblr media
A Blue Sky thunderegg, from New Mexico! Thundereggs from this locale often have this two pointed, saucer-like shape.
Tumblr media
It fluoresces really brightly!
Tumblr media
Dulcote agate, from England! The bands of this agate are full of calcite, which gives them a strange, distinct texture.
Tumblr media
Malawi agate, from Malawi! See all the cracks in it? Almost all Malawi agates have them. Frequent earthquakes due to the East African Rift cause these agates to crack and fracture.
Tumblr media
Paint Rock agate, from Paint Rock Valley in Alabama! This agate is very rarely banded, and usually just contains swirls of red and yellow color.
Tumblr media
A big, unpolished slab of Montana agate! This agate is known for its clear banding and black lines and spots, which are caused by manganese dendrites.
Tumblr media
It's best viewed with some light behind it!
Tumblr media
A smaller piece with really amazing dendrites!
Tumblr media
Here it is backlit!
Tumblr media
Fighting Blood agate, from Hebei Provence in China! This locale is known for its super saturated reds and yellows. This piece has purple amethyst crystals growing inside! They didn't photograph well; they are much more purple in person.
Tumblr media
A really weird Fighting Blood agate! This one lacks the bright colors typical of this locale, but makes up for it with that super cool spiderweb pattern!
And finally, as is tradition, I came home with some Ethiopian opals! Here are the five I got this year.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's everything I got at the show!

Ocean Jasper, a marketing term for a spherulitic orbicular jasper, a variety which contains coloured orbs or spherical inclusions or zones.
"This new rock has been found along the northwest coast of Madagascar after years of unsuccessful searching. The deposit formed as a rhyolite flow but has been completely silicified. The rhyolitic eyes or orbs come in an astonishing array of colors and color combinations. The background can be white, pink, green, red, or yellow. Botryoidal formations as well as white and deep green druzy are also common. The deposit has been discovered at the edge of the ocean. It can only be seen and collected at low tide. The area has no road so the material must be transported to civilization by boat." (The Lapidary Journal)
The existence of chalcedony deposits in the area was first written about in Alfred Lacroix's Minéralogie de Madagascar published in 1922. However orbicular material is not specifically mentioned. Dr. Klaus Thalheim has documented one of the earliest known examples of Ocean Jasper, a slab from Kabamby. It belonged to Richard Baldauf, an early 20th century German collector.
In 1977 a photo of Kabamby Ocean Jasper was included in Grund's Encyclopédie des Minéraux (Encyclopedia of Minerals), sparking interest in the stone. Ocean Jasper was rediscovered at the turn of the millennium by Paul Obeniche. Like many others, he first saw it in Grund's encyclopedia. Paul launched a series of excursions to locate it. Ocean Jasper was found again in October of 1999, on the shoreline outside the village of Marovato. The original Kabamby material was found nearby later.
Ocean Jasper was introduced to the general public at the Tucson gem show in January of 2000. It was named there by Paul Obeniche and Eugene Mueller. They called it Ocean Jasper because it resembles the waves and ripples of water and the mine was first discovered along the shoreline, originally accessible only at low tide.

TSOTP; They walked into that one
oh shit yeah I was gonna share some writing
fuck what was it again
oh yeah, this;
(there will be a bit more build up later. I haven't actually caught up to this scene yet)
~
Jasper crashed into Solaris’ back, curving around him so that Jasper hit the ground first, rolling them both across the floor into the shelter of an open crate.
“Hey-” Solaris started.
Jasper pushed his head down and hunched over him, back to the open storage room.
An explosion punched through the building. Walls crumbled and the ceiling started to crack.
Solaris heard a yelp from one of the twins. Jasper’s arm tightened around him, shifting them both further into the shelter of the crate.
The building fell, so loud that Solaris couldn’t hear anything but the crash of brick and the groan of metal, the shattering of glass.
Jasper tensed and Solaris felt more than heard him hiss.
Jasper still had a hand on Solaris’ head, keeping him small below his shelter.
Solaris turned his head sideways to look up at Jasper, meeting his slit-eyed gaze. Jasper’s ears were flattened to his head, his teeth bared in a silent hiss.
Solaris glanced beyond Jasper to the roof, and his eyes widened as he saw it crack into chunks above them.
He pushed back into the crate, yanking Jasper with him, scrambling further into the shelter they’d found. Would it hold?
Was this it?
Saro would kill him if it was.
The ceiling fell.
Jasper grunted.
The crate splintered.
Everything went dark.
#
Solaris rose back to consciousness slowly and in a haze of pain.
It was mostly dark. There was a thin flame flickering nearby, enough to see Jasper. His eyes were mostly expanded pupil, a ring of shifting red bright around them. They were reflecting the flame back in a way that was distinctly not human. His ears were half raised, tilting back and forth.
Solaris closed his eyes again.
“Don’t do that,” Jasper said. “Can you move?”
“Ow,” Solaris said, testing out his fingers and toes, then his legs and arms. “Yes.”
“Good.” Jasper grunted. He had one hand braced against the ground behind Solaris, arm locked and trembling.
“Is that the ceiling?” Solaris asked.
There was a slab of stone slanted against Jasper’s back. The crate was bowed above them, cracked but not shattered.
“Help me move it?” Jasper asked.
Solaris wriggled out from under Jasper, hissing at areas which were probably forming bruises. Nothing broken, everything hurt.
“Alright.” He pressed his shoulder to it, feet braced against the floor.
Jasper’s other hand had the fire hovering above it.
Solaris filed that away to ask about later.
“On three,” Jasper said, shifting to face the slab.
They didn’t manage to tip the slab. They created enough of a space to squeeze out from under it.
When they let the slab go, it crushed the crate beneath it.
Solaris evaluated Jasper again, wondering just how strong he really was.
Jasper was staring at him as well. The flame was out above his hand, but there was enough light coming in through the missing walls.
They were both covered in dust and splinters.
“Your hat,” Jasper said, lifting his hand to his head.
Solaris’ hands flew to his own and found his hat tangled in the collar of his coat. “Thanks.” He pulled it back onto his head, doing his best to tuck most of his hair under it.
Jasper twisted an ear, dust falling from it as he turned away. “Tamhas? Tadg?” He raised his voice to call for the others. “Still there?”
Tadg appeared first, climbing out to stand on a mound of rubble, his clothes grey with dust. He was favouring one foot. “Yeah.” His voice shook a little.
“Just peachy,” said Tamhas, voice muffled.
Solaris looked around for him as Tadg whined.
A dark paw stuck up out of the rubble, two fingers held up in a ‘V’ shape. “That was exciting.”
Tadg laughed, his relief clear in the sound, and limped across to free his brother. “We really brought the house down, didn’t we?”
Solaris snorted and scrambled across to help.
Jasper groaned.

smooch anon has resurfaced to say I'm very sorry about your covid:( I've lost track on what amount of kiss down payments I'm at right now but may I request any sort of fic on that Vax and keyleth emt earthquake thingy you were talking about for a return of a hefty 8 kisses?:) once your feeling better ofc take care of yourself first
sorry this took so long <3
The beeping of the heartbeat monitor fills the small room, echoing against the walls. Vax hardly dares to breathe as he enters, seeing Keyleth lying on the bed. She looks better now, he thinks, someone cleaned the blood and grim from her skin, bandaged her wounds.
Keyleth lied under a slab of concrete, her eyes fluttering with every shallow breath as she fought to hang on. Her red hair covered in her own blood. In the darkness, Vax could see the tears on her cheeks carving paths through the blood and dust.
Percy looks up as he enters, his face grim. Wordlessly, the inventor stands and walks over to Vax, squeezing his shoulder before joining the others in the hall to give Vax some space. There's a tube down her throat and bandages covering her torso. Vax knows every injury she has.
Three bruised ribs, four broken. Grade three concussion. Severe fractures and breaks on her lower legs and ankles. Abrasions covering her entire body. Dust inhalation.
Vax sinks into the chair Percy had just vacated, hesitating for a moment before taking Keyleth's hand. He's so scared it's going to be cold. But it's not, it's a bit cooler than normal from the frigid hospital air, but he can feel her pulse strong against his fingers.
"Hey, Kiki," he says softly, his voice barely louder than a whisper. "I'm sorry I wasn't here most of the day, but you know how it is, massive earthquake means every first responder on the field. I hope Freddie wasn't too much of a nuisance." He chuckles as he kisses the back of her hand.
"My worst nightmare came true today, I heard the address of your building on the radio and I...I freaked out, I could barely breathe. Pike tried to get me to stay behind, to stay out of the building but I couldn't, not when I knew you were inside. When I found you...I-I thought you were dead." Tears well in Vax's eyes as he fights back the images of Keyleth in the debris of the collapsed building.
"I thought I was too late, but then you looked at me and fuck, you smiled at me."
"Knew it was going to be you," Keyleth murmured, blinking slowly up at him. "Is Jasper safe?"
"He sure is," Vax assured her quickly as he knelt down and began to take her vitals. "He was the one who told me where you were. They're taking him to the hospital now."
Vax takes a long breath, "All you cared about was that that little boy was safe. That's why you held on as long as you did. And I need you to keep holding on, Keyleth because so many kids still need your help, especially after today. I...I still need you, Keyleth. I don't want to know who I am without you by my side. So please don't let me find out."
"Vax?" He looks over to see his sister standing in the doorway of the room. "I'm going to head home with Percy, I'll bring you some food later okay?"
Vax nods, glad there isn't going to be a fight about him staying at her side. "And some coffee, the hospital shit is always watered down."
Vex nods, walking over to give him a kiss on the head, "She'll be alright, don't let yourself spiral, okay?"
"No promises," he laughs a little bit. "I'll see you in the morning, stubby."
Vex says a quick goodbye before leaving Vax and Keyleth alone once more. He takes a deep breath in time with her and squeezes gently on her hand. He's going to stay right here until she wakes up, he will coax her back to him because he is not about to lose another person today.
And when she wakes, it will not be alone.

Rock show haul!!!!
Some rocks from the penny bin, mostly jaspers:
Tumblr media
Mystery bag that my friend bought me :)
Tumblr media
(There were tons of local minerals and really tiny things which I loved!)
Rose quartz and some aragonite for me and dad:
Tumblr media
Ammonite that fern has the other half of:
Tumblr media
(Incredible druzy, and the back has wonderful red flaming!!)
Sunstone slab, labradorite cabochons, and smoky cheveron Amathyst roots:
Tumblr media
Various slabs! Two moss agate, one petrified wood branch, one lepordskin jasper and two from India, maybe soapstone or petrified wood? They look way better wet btw, they’re matte
Tumblr media
Minis consisting of two mice, two turtles, a bear , fish, and snake, as well as some tiny labradorite slabs and various $.25 tumbles:
Tumblr media
(And there’s a little piece of quartz I found in the parking lot too!)
So that’s the haul! They had a lot of good prices and a lot of rough material for tumbling and also just good solid low quality material, which sounds awful like that, but you could get cheap stuff that was nice and not perfect and it was really refreshing, and there was such a huge variety too!

Oh, right, I never posted these!  Here are the rocks I acquired at my last rock show!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This big sparkly girl with the bottle green, glassy appearance is vivianite, a rock which is just as fragile as it looks!  Vivianite has some really cool properties.  It begins as a colorless mineral, but as soon as it’s exposed to light, it undergoes a chemical reaction that turns it this blue-green color.  As long as it’s exposed to light, this chemical reaction will continue, and the crystals will turn darker and darker until they’re completely black.  Another cool thing about vivianite is that it exhibits pleochroism, meaning the crystals look more green or more blue depending on the angle you view them at.
Tumblr media
This funky-shaped sparkly girl is a scepter quartz!  Scepter quartz occurs when a younger crystal begins growing on the tip of an older one, resulting in a big crystal perched atop a skinny one, like the jewel atop a scepter!  This scepter is a smoky amethyst with some really cool stuff going on inside.  My favorite detail is those red spots, which are caused by needle-like crystals of hematite growing inside the quartz!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the third meteorite to join my collection!  This piece fell to Earth about four to five thousand years ago in northern Argentina.  Its melted appearance is because the heat of entering Earth’s atmosphere actually caused it to melt!  Campo del Cielo meteorites are iron-nickel meteorites, made from a metal alloy called meteoric iron.  (Ok, so, not to go off on a tangent but meteoric iron is really cool stuff, historically.  See, iron doesn’t occur on planet Earth in its native, metallic form.  It’s always bound up in ores and has to be processed.  But native iron does occur in the vacuum of space, and sometimes that iron falls to Earth as meteors, so the only iron that Bronze Age people had access to before the advent of iron smelting was from meteors.  They made some really cool stuff with it.  Did you know that Tutankhamen was buried with a dagger made from meteoric iron?)
Tumblr media
This fossil boy is a slab of turritella agate!  It comes from a fossil deposit in Wyoming called the Green River Formation.  Those white shapes are the fossilized shells of turritella sea snails encased in chert.  These shells were once buried at the bottom of an ancient ocean!  Because of the cool patterns their cross sections make, turritella slabs like this one are used by lapidary artists to cut cabochons for jewelry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Speaking of cool agates, here’s a neat little fire agate!  This piece came from the southwestern United States.  That metallic, rainbow iridescence (or “fire”) is caused by alternating layers of goethite and limonite, which form as botryoidal bubbles encased in translucent chalcedony.  Fire agate is one of the coolest forms of agate, because it’s so incredibly rare!  The only place in the world where it’s found is an area from central Mexico up through California and Arizona, where it was formed during ancient volcanic activity.
Tumblr media
Here’s another cool agate!  This is Aztec purple lace agate, which comes from Mexico.  I don’t think they’re mining it out anymore (actually, it hasn’t been mined for a long time), so this is pretty scarce stuff!  It doesn’t photograph well, so trust me when I say that this piece is much purpler in person.  Other than that, I don’t know much about it!
Tumblr media
Also very purple and also from Mexico is this Coyamito agate!  Note the super cool hexagon shape.  Coyamito agate is known for its pseudomorph formations: it replaces other minerals and grows in their shape.  That’s rare in agate, but super common in the Coyamito agate deposit!  In this case, the agate was growing in the hollow left behind by a hexagonal crystal.
Tumblr media
Here’s something I’ve been wanting to add to my collection for a long time!  This dignified boy is royal imperial jasper, possibly my absolute favorite kind of jasper. (And unlike most of the rocks the crystal healing crowd likes to slap the word “jasper” on, he’s actually a real jasper!)  We’re seeing in cross-section what’s known as an “egg” formation, the result of a jasper nodule which started small and then grew outward in uneven layers.  Changes in the environment during the formation of each layer resulted in all these different colors!  This piece is also from Mexico.
And finally (drumroll please), it’s time for opals!  As is tradition, I came home from the show with three brand new Ethiopian opals.  Here they are!
Tumblr media

"Henry VIII would look back on Jane Seymour as the wife with whom he had been uniquely happy; forgetting perhaps those early years with Catherine of Aragon, the charming young Spanish princess so eager to please him ... A magnificent monument was now planned for the grave which the King intended to share with Queen Jane in the fullness of time: there was to be a statue of the Queen reclining as if in sleep, not death, and children were to sit at the corners of the tomb, with baskets from which red and white roses, worked in jasper, cornelian and agate, enamelled and gilded, would scatter forth."
-The Wives of Henry VIII by Antonia Fraser
Indeed, Henry VIII had forgotten about his first wife, with whom he was married the longest after Jane triumphed where she and Anne had failed, a son. Jane did not live to enjoy her success. Following her death, her jewels were distributed among her stepdaughters and ladies of the court. "Chains and brooches of gold" adds Fraser, "went to the Queen's younger brother, Thomas and Henry Seymour; her dowry however "went back into the King's hands."
"Jane's legacy is also her own reputation and her relationship with Henry VIII. Jane never inspired the deep obsession in the King that he felt for Anne Boleyn or the admiring love that he, at first, felt for Catherine of Aragon. Instead, he married her almost on a whim. She was the woman best placed at the perfect time. There is even some evidence that Henry came to regret his haste in marrying Jane after seeing some other beautiful ladies at his court. Jane never raised the passion in Henry that some of his other wives did. Throughout their marriage, it is clear that Henry did not entirely view his marriage to Jane as permanent. It was essential that Jane fulfilled her side of the bargain and the was so bear a son. Until that time, as Jane was very well aware, she was entirely dispensable. In spite of this, with her death in giving him the son he craved, Henry's feelings towards Jane entirely changed and he came to look back on their marriage through rose-tinted spectacles ... Jane spent her entire marriage trying to prove to Henry that she was his ideal woman and, posthumously, she succeeded. During the last decade of his life, Henry frequented looked back on his marriage to Jane with longing and after her death she became his one true love ..."
- Jane Seymour: Henry VIII's True Love by Elizabeth Norton
Tumblr media
She makes a valuable point. Furthermore, she adds that had she lived, with her position secure, she would have become sleeper influential and "would have had a very strong claim to the regency" after her husband died. But this is all speculation, what is true, is that Jane crafted for herself an image that Henry was comfortable, one that lived up to the expectations of a wife, especially a royal wife, but more than that, an image that kept her alive, showing that Jane above all, was a survivalist.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jane died less than two weeks after she'd given birth to Prince Edward. She was buried in St. George's Chapel one month after her passing, on the 12th of November, 1537. Henry was buried alongside her. His plans for making a magnificent tomb with statues of the two of them never materialized. Instead, it's a simple slab on the stone cold floor that marks their resting place.

Speak No Evil (Last Part)
There isn’t much yet, just a few simple bowls and plates that she has shaped and TyLee has painted and a single ceramic shell. Soon enough the tables will be overflowing with pottery and maybe a few sculptures; TyLee has taken to making little figurines and animals out of coconut shells.
And in due time they will open the shop for folks to drop in and make bowls and cups for themselves. “How about this? I think that putting some potted heliconia in each corner would liven up the place. And then I was thinking that we could surrounded them with shells and polished stones…”
‘That’s fine.’ Azula etches into the clay. Much of the hard work has already been done; the rooms are well furnished and the place has been scrubbed top to bottom. Everything looks pristine, as though they are the first people to have occupied the building. Much of the furniture consists of work benches, pottery wheels, designated shelves for finished and unfinished pieces, shelves for pieces to be sold, and cabinets full of tools and paints.
She has left the upper floor available for sleeping should they want to spend the night in the shop instead of going home. Up there, there is a bed and a pai sho table as well as several cushions and scrolls to read.
Azula taps her chin, she thinks that there is still something missing. Perhaps they should string up a few more lanterns. Yes, and a few more small candles and stones for the window sills would be lovely. Red jasper and tiger’s eye perhaps? And maybe a sunstone. She writes this down for TyLee.
The atmosphere isn’t unlike that of their permeate residence. They have fixed that place up well and good too. Her old family beach house feels much warmer now with an absurd over-abundance of seashell print pillows and cushions--TyLee’s choice--and an arrangement of many candles of Azula’s own choosing. The incense and candle smoke helps clear her mind and soothe her. There is a zither in the corner for when she is bored and needs a new hobby to try, mostly it is for decoration. Paper fans and kayak oars hang upon the walls among starfish and shells that they have facened to the walls. And the ceiling is overtaken by banners of fishing nets which TyLee has artfully strung more shells into. And Azula has taken to arranging little dragon figurines and crystals upon end tables and nightstands.
Azula thinks that the walls of the pottery shop could use some more glamor. ‘We should hang something up.’ She gestures to the wall.
“Maybe we can paint the walls, just whenever we get bored. Or we can let other people come in and do art?”
Azula shakes her head, ‘too unorganized, I want some coordination. Besides they’re already going to be painting bowls. ’
TyLee nods. “We can get more turtle shells. Oh! And maybe we can get one of those ship steering wheels!”
‘That is so tacky.’ Azula rolls her eyes.
“So that’s a yes.”
Azula nods. ‘People like tacky.’
TyLee laughs. “So this is good enough for now?”
Azula wanders over to the curtains and straightens them. ‘We can open the shop tomorrow. I’d like to get a few more pieces finished before then.’ She rolls up her slab of clay and begins shaping it.
.oOo.
It is always a treat to watch Azula work. Her focus is entirely unwavering. TyLee watches her fingers press and pinch the clay until she is satisfied. She is eyeing the turtle crab that Seicho had fished up for her two days prior.
TyLee couldn’t possibly part ways with it, not after she had already named it Miki. She is certain that Azula thinks that it is silly but she has also caught the princess running her pointer over Miki’s shell several times.
“We should get an iguana-parrot!”
Her concentration breaks briefly. She rolls out a new discussion slab and etches a quick, ‘we already have a turtle-crab to take care of.’ She pauses. ‘And it won’t sit still enough for me to use it as a model…’
“Of course not! It’s a turtle-crab, it has no concept of becoming a work of art.” She leans over Azula shoulder and sweeps some loose strands of hair out of her face. “It’s getting long again, you’re going to have to start tying this up.”
Azula wipes the back of her hand across her forehead before writing, ‘yes, I’ll worry about that next time.’
“It looks really good.” She gestures to the clay likeness of Miki.
‘Are you going to make anything?’
“I already have.” TyLee gestures to her own table.
Azula blinks. ‘TyLee...what are those?’
There are about twelve little lumps sitting on the table. Each lump has its own clay hat or tool, some of them have both. Like the one with a straw hat and fishing pole. “They’re blobs with jobs! See, that one’s a fisherman and that one’s a farmer. That one runs a tea shop and that one is a fire lord.” She points at each and reveals it’s job.
‘Why do I have a feeling that everyone is going to love those?’
“Because they’re super cute and you love them too.” TyLee carries them out to the kiln and re-enters the shop. “I think that we should have a whole table full of them.”
‘If you can make that many.’ Azula affixes a final claw onto her own piece before taking a step back to appreciate her work. ‘It just has to dry.’ She moves to flip her talking slab over.
“You should put that in the kiln too.”
Azula furrows her brows and points at the slab.
TyLee nods, “yeah we can save all of our conversations.”
‘Perhaps I do not want to preserve them all.’
“Because you don’t want anyone to know that you misspelled mango three days ago?”
Azula folds her arms across her chest, a small pout decorating her lips. TyLee stoops down and gives them a kiss. The princess touches TyLee’s cheek before standing up. ‘Let’s go take a walk to Seicho’s while the clay dries. Perhaps she’ll know where we can find a ship steering wheel.’
“Doesn’t her brother captain ships?”
‘Her brother has a lot of jobs.’ Azula shrugs.
Whether they come back with a ship wheel or not, she is glad that Azula is up and about. She seems much more vibrant and happy since they have arrived on Ember Island. Her skin has regained its color and her eyes are brighter. They don’t seem so tired and she doesn’t seem as tense.
It isn’t uncommon to find her walking along the beach in the earliest hours of the morning or standing on the dock and staring off into the horizon at sundown. It is even less uncommon for TyLee to wander out and join her. Sometimes Azula will make conversation in the sand, most of the time she like to lay in TyLee’s arms and watch the horizon. It has become a habit to listen to the lapping of the water and the steady sound of the princess’ breathing. It is her favorite way to start or end the day.
She takes Azula’s hand and smiles, it is such a far cry from how things used to be. How loud and how terrifying things had been. She feels Azula’s fingers close around hers. The princess is still fussy and moody sometimes, but Agni, she is a lot easier to confront and talk to. TyLee wonders if Azula agrees that she has been conversing much more freely without her voice.
Azula pauses for a moment in front of the pottery shop and TyLee turns around too. She takes a step back and clasps her hands, “Azula it’s so beautiful!” This thing that they have built for themselves. She isn’t sure if she is speaking of the pottery shop or of their relationship. “I think that this is going to be really great for us.”
Azula looks up and nods.
There is a sense of confidence and accomplishment in her aura. An aura that had formerly been so distressingly muted.
.oOo.
Azula smile’s at a first day’s success.
The first success of her new life.
TyLee slings an arm over her shoulder. “We’re doing good. I think that we’re doing really good.”
Azula nods, ‘good indeed.’ She mouths. It is actually quite better than good, she thinks. Significantly better.
The breeze billows the curtains and clicks and clacks the shells hanging in the doorway and on the rafters. The smell of coconut oil and burning clay is a constant. She sits with TyLee on the patio watching the last two customers in the shop wander back down the shell paving stones.
Azula lights the patio torches and a few incense cones and puts fire in the paper lanterns. From somewhere down the beach she can hear distant party music, a constant beating of drums and plucking of strings.
“We got some letters from Zuko and Mai.” TyLee holds them up.
Azula sits herself down and picks a slice of pineapple off of the platter in front of her. “What do they say?”
“Zuko just wants to know how everything is going and if we’re settled in yet.”
Azula gazes out towards the water. She certainly feels cozy enough. She takes the letter from TyLee’s hand and skims it over. She will respond in the morning, for now she is content to enjoy the moment. It isn’t anything particularly grand and yet there is grandeur in simplicity. In having something so small to appreciate and someone to appreciate it with. Perhaps tomorrow she will invited Seicho and her brother to join them after they close shop for the night.
She wanders to the railing and surveys the world below. The stretch of sand and the people crossing it. “It’s a really nice view.” TyLee muses. She leans upon the railing next to her.  Nice is certainly one way of putting it even if it is an understatement. Truthfully, the view is more than that. It is reassuring somehow, it brings a vibrence to her soul. A little something for her to look forward to.
When she looks away from the sunset reflecting upon the water she is greeted by the jungle, by a lush and rustling canopy. By palm fronds brushing against one another and a kaleidoscope of colorful birds.
She looks over her shoulder. In the other direction the volcano looms in the backdrop.
She hasn’t thought about that volcano in a long time. She decides that it is where it belongs; in the background. A silhouette that reminds her to keep climbing.
Briefly she thinks of returning; of taking TyLee and Seicho to its rim but then what good would that really do? No, she is content to keep it as mundane as any other large rock on the beach. Really, there isn’t any sense in looking back at all--not when there is a future to look towards.
She wraps her arms around TyLee and listens to the rush of the waves and the titter of the birds as they settle down for the night. And in the morning when they take flight again she will open the unlock the doors to the shop once more. Will open the windows and mold her clay with the taste of brine on her tongue and the sun on her face. Will listen to TyLee hum as she makes another set of her silly little blobs. Perhaps she will send one of those back home to Zuzu.
It will be nice to write something lighter to Chiako. Something more optimistic.
It is only when she puts her brush to the parchment that night does it truly settle in that she feels okay. More than okay. She feels well and content. She finds that she has a lot to say in her letters, a lot to confess and a lot to share.
TyLee is already curled up on the bed, otherwise she would be peeking over Azula’s shoulders at the letters. Although, Azula supposes that she wouldn’t mind if the woman did. She jots down a few final thoughts. Thoughts about how fixing up that old beach house feels like fixing up her life; reclaiming the delights that Ember Island had brought her so long ago feels like reclaiming her life once and for all.
She seals the letters and climbs into bed. Even after all of this time it is still a relief to have the woman in her arms again. To hear her sleepy mumbles and to have her rolling over in the middle of the night to cling to her.
She closes her eyes.
Her throat no longer aches.
The place where her voice no longer dwells doesn’t feel so empty.
Her heart doesn’t feel so vacant.
She doesn’t feel so hollow.
Azula squeezes TyLee and TyLee squeezes a stuffed tiger-monkey. One a fabric daisy sewn onto its ear and a golden ribbon tied around its neck.

Healing Crystals: A Complete Guide of 45 Essential Gemstones
Tumblr media
People have been turning to crystals for healing since the beginning of time. These are Mother Earth's jewels, gleaming diamonds, stones, and rock crystals formed by elemental energy. They can absorb the sun, moon, salt seas, soil, and mountains in a single shimmer and return all of their healing strength to us. Healing crystals have decorated the breastplates of priests and warriors, been used in shamanic work, served as guiding lights for ancient tribes, and been hidden in the pockets of princesses, sailors, and healers for centuries.
These powerful stones have a lot of influence in today's world. They only become more potent as time passes, and they can be a hugely useful tool in assisting us in reconnecting with the natural world. They assist us in channeling our intentions, raising our vibrations, and bringing out all of the latent grace, elegance, and magic that we already possess. Remember that everything in life has a vibration, and if we can adapt our inner vibrations to the things we want in life, we can be able to manifest them. Crystals, with their cleansing properties and positive vibrations, will help to close the distance. These tiny magical stones also invite us to clear our minds, sit in meditation, and ponder how we can relax our monkey minds and enter a deeper state of healing.
The Formation of Crystals in the Earth
Tumblr media
In the world, crystals go through a fascinating geological phase. Heat, compression, and millions of years will produce some amazing results!
How to Pick a Stone
How do you pick the right crystal for you when there are too many to choose from? One of the most valuable lessons we can take away from crystal healing is to trust our instincts and follow our gut instincts. Our bodies and minds are inextricably linked and both a part of the universe. Simply see which crystals call to you if you want to know which one works best for you. Even if you're just reading a brief description of a crystal or looking at an image, some things can stand out and resonate with you more than others. Take this as a hint from the universe that this is the crystal that will be able to provide you with something special. We typically have a good idea of our own strengths and weaknesses, and we can use gemstones' unique characteristics to help us balance ourselves and focus on the areas where we feel we need a little extra help. If you're feeling particularly confused and helpless, your Zodiac sign will point you in the direction of a crystal with luminous light and powerful healing properties.
