also tom hooper has done irreparable damage to the movie musical as a genre including and especially the live action disney remakes and i will never forgive him for that
#he's the reason i didn't get to see fish playing instruments in under the sea he will burn in hell#it's the obsession with Gritty Realism and the fact that les mis actually did really well and now every executive thinks musicals have to#be Realistic™ and won't let anything be stylized or interesting#Realism™ works for some musicals like i think spielberg's wss is a masterpiece#but he also made it colourful and fun and dreamlike in places and it worked so well#but he's Spielberg he can do anything#but anyway a lot of musicals aren't Realistic and that's okay!!!#some musicals are about singing cats and jamaican crabs and fairytale characters hanging out in the woods#Realism™ has nothing to do with it!!!!!!! tom hooper you are my parasocial enemy!!!!!!!!!!!!
