Iyer, Jaiswal, and Rohit will not play in Mumbai's crucial Ranji Trophy match.
In the run-up to the England ODI series early next month, Mumbai will not have India internationals Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Shreyas Iyer in the next round of the Ranji Trophy. Iyer played nearly the whole domestic season, including two white-ball tournaments, while the Mumbai trio had previously participated in the previous round, which Kohli and Rahul did not. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, for example, will be included in the upcoming round beginning January 30. Four days following the planned conclusion of the final Ranji Trophy round, on February 6, the ODI series against England begins in Nagpur.
Tumblr media
After the BCCI's new rules required playing domestic cricket, Rohit and Jaiswal, who open together in Test matches as well, opened for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the previous round. Following India's back-to-back series defeats to Australia and New Zealand, which prevented the team from qualifying for the World Test Championship final, the board issued the directive, particularly because India's batting lineup was unable to produce significant runs. With an average of a pitiful 10.93 this season and just 164 runs from his previous 15 Test innings, Rohit in particular has been one of the worst of the group. When he batted for Mumbai, his luck didn't improve; he only managed to score 3 and 28 against J&K.
Jaiswal too had a poor Test season, scoring two half-centuries and a century in Australia after four fifties at home, but he still only managed low scores of 4 and 26.
However, this Ranji season, Iyer has been Mumbai's highest scorer. He averaged 68.57 and scored 480 runs from seven innings, including two hundreds. Additionally, he recently scored two undefeated hundreds in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy. Additionally, he scored 345 runs at 188.52 in the 20-over Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which he won.
Shivam Dube, an all-rounder who joined the India T20I team just after Mumbai's match against J&K concluded, would also not be playing for Mumbai.
All-rounders Atharva Ankolekar and Suryansh Shedge, who won Player of the Match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, as well as batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi are back in the squad for the last league match against Meghalaya. Mumbai is probably going to rely on the youthful opening duo of 17-year-old Ayush Mhatre and Raghuvanshi, who has already started his first domestic season with an impressive record of four hundreds and two half-centuries in 18 innings across first-class and List A formats.
Mumbai, the reigning champions, are in a difficult position to get to the Ranji knockout stages as they are ranked third in Group A, behind J&K and Baroda. They must win their final match against Meghalaya.
Mumbai squad
Ajinkya Rahane (c), Ayush Mhatre, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Amogh Bhatkal, Siddhesh Lad, Akash Anand (wk), Hardik Tamore (wk), Suryansh Shedge, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Mohit Avasthi, Sylvester D'Souza, Royston Dias, Shreyas Gurav and Atharva Ankolekar

Karun Nair’s Blazing IPL Comeback: 89 in 40 Balls Against Mumbai Indians
Tumblr media
Karun Nair's sensational return to IPL 2025 has become the talk of the tournament! After nearly three years away from the league, Nair exploded onto the scene with a fearless 89 off just 40 balls for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians, showcasing the kind of batting that once made him a triple centurion in Test cricket.
What made this innings remarkable wasn’t just the runs—it was who they came against. Karun dismantled none other than Jasprit Bumrah, one of the world’s most feared bowlers, scoring 26 off just 9 balls. His shot selection included elegant flicks, inside-out lofted sixes, and laser-precision cuts—all executed with the composure of a man on a mission.
 PowerPlay Highlights:
A flicked six over deep square leg
A classic cut through point for four
An audacious six over long-off
Despite being behind Sameer Rizvi in DC’s playing XI plans, Nair seized his chance and stamped his authority with a knock that could redefine his IPL trajectory.
Domestic Dominance That Led to the Call-Up:
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024: 779 runs, 5 tons, SR 124
Ranji Trophy: 862 runs for Vidarbha, Avg 53.94
SMAT: SR 177.08
Maharaja Trophy: 560 runs, SR 181.82
Karun’s consistency in all formats backed his comeback, and this innings may just be the spark for bigger things to come—including a return to India’s national setup.
 Karun Speaks:
"I felt ready. I just needed a few balls to get back in rhythm. It’s always tough to wait, but I kept putting in the work. Today, it all clicked."
At 33, Karun Nair’s comeback is not just a story of resilience—it’s a masterclass in patience, self-belief, and seizing the moment. Indian cricket, relentless as it is, might have just rediscovered a gem.

Favoritism in the Ranji Trophy Is Controversial After Umpire Howler Saves Shreyas Iyer
Day 2 of the Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir saw a lot of criticism directed at umpire S Ravi following a contentious call involving Shreyas Iyer. Ravi declared Iyer not out even though he was batting on eight runs when he audibly edged a delivery from Umar Nazir to the wicketkeeper. Fans were outraged by this judgment and accused the umpire of favoring Mumbai on social media.
Tumblr media
Shreyas Iyer edged another delivery a few balls later, but the umpire finally gave him out. He was observed talking about the matter with officials and his captain, Ajinkya Rahane, though, and refused to leave the crease. Supporters were upset with the umpire for his previous error as well as Iyer for remaining at the crease.
Mumbai's batting order suffered after a strong start, rapidly losing important wickets. Players like Shivam Dube also fell cheaply after Iyer's controversial decision. In a game characterized by subpar officiating and abrupt changes in momentum, Iyer's meager 11-run first innings further compounded Mumbai's problems.

[ad_1] Jaiswal is set to play for Goa from the next domestic season. (PC: X.com) In a major development, Yashasvi Jaiswal is reportedly set to leave Mumbai and join Goa ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season. According to The Indian Express, the left-handed batter has formally requested a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), citing personal reasons for his decision. The MCA has acknowledged receiving Jaiswal’s request. “He has applied for a NOC, stating personal reasons for his move to Goa,” an MCA source told The Indian Express. The report also mentions that individuals close to Jaiswal have confirmed his intention to switch teams. Over the years, several Mumbai cricketers, including Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad, have moved to Goa for better opportunities. Jaiswal has been associated with Mumbai cricket since his early years. The southpaw made his Ranji Trophy debut in the 2018-19 season. He gained national attention when he became the youngest player to score a double century in List A cricket, smashing 203 runs against Jharkhand in the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. His impressive performances earned him a contract with Rajasthan Royals, where he has been a key player since his debut. His consistency in domestic cricket eventually led to his India debut during the 2023 tour of the West Indies. Struggles in IPL 2025 Despite being retained by Rajasthan Royals for INR 18 crore, Jaiswal has struggled for form in the ongoing IPL season. In three matches, the RR opener has managed only 34 runs, with scores of 1, 29, and 4.
