Is California’s push to phase out diesel Recreational Vehicles yet another control tactic masquerading as climate policy? Conveniently, as with so many other policies, it's both.
Nov 26, 2024
End-of-year ‘blowouts’, Black Friday sales, ‘last year’s models,’ and all manner of rebates and promotions exist to lure prospective road warriors into the showrooms of RV dealers. However, if you've been considering a new diesel motorhome as a hedge against society’s imminent collapse, you might be in for an unwelcome surprise — particularly if you live in California, Oregon, Washington, New York, Massachusetts, or Maryland.
New regulations, set to take effect in 2025, will effectively bar the sales of new diesel motorhomes as part of the push to phase out gas and diesel engines in favor of electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles.
As Citizen Watch Report recently noted:
California’s Advanced Clean Truck (ACT) regulations require manufacturers of medium and heavy-duty vehicles, including RVs, to achieve 35% sales of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs). The problem? A ZEV-compatible RV chassis doesn’t yet exist. This rule forces dealerships to comply or risk losing the ability to sell motorhomes entirely.

after the vehicle hunt has been a big flop (the few vehicles I was interested in drove terribly on the test drives :( and car salesmen waaaay highballing cars worths which is. A crazy thing to do when I can literally look up the average worth of a car in 2 seconds??) after going to so so many websites and irl dealers. i found a van I really really love the look of and it’s only like an hour away!! (vintage van-rv combo!! Small enough to not be insane on gas while combining my many years long obsession with having a small rv-like thing AND my nostalgia for my now gone first van…)
And the thing is actually low priced for its type… but insanely out of my budget still 10,000 more than what I have. It’s insane how much vehicles cost. This thing is like 10 years older than I am and it still costs that much?? Wanting a thing really bad will have u googling shit like what body parts can I sell legally 💀
#long time followers will recall back in 2019 me rv posting CONSTANTLY the yearning is so real#I never looked for class b rvs bc they are insanely priced usually but this one is considered cheap (which is still insane)#with my measly part time job it will be many many months before I have that money#by then I’m sure it’ll be sold which makes me want to cry#I’ve applied to other part time jobs so maybe I could work 2 remote jobs…I’m at the point where I feel like I’ve been running on a hamster#wheel nonstop and it’s not getting me any results like I feel very. stuck and impatient#it’s frustrating!! and what if I somehow save up and it’s not bought then it also drives like shit 😭#I’ve never really minded being cooped up but lately it’s driving me a little crazy#maybe I’m just bad at saving I don’t know. like I genuinely don’t know how anyone manages to make it like this tho#but no bank or credit union will give me a loan for it bc of how old it was (I checked Friday) even tho I have good credit :(#I feel like the first half of this year was so awesome and it’s just been going downhill so fast it’s really. discouraging#sanchoyorambles#anyway all that to say if possible I might donate plasma or something despite how squeamish I am#I hate money and I hate having to need it and how stressful it is to spend it on big things like a vechicle I hate it I hate it#everything should be free and easy forever#I’ll probably end up with a stupid boring little car that I’ll hate bc that’s what I can afford. but it’ll be fine if I slap a cute sticker#on it or something. I thought my van kinda sucked af first too despite how proud I was to have bought it#and I still got reaaaallly emotionally attached to it so! who knows what’ll happen#but yeah. can someone explain WHY class b rvs cost THAt Much it’s stupid . things I want should be a lovely little 1000$#car and housd should be 1000$ for me because umm I’m nice and I’m trying really hard? 😔🤨#and it is a luxury that I can even wait a bit to decide since I have a remote job. I’m grateful for that but I’m also going stir crazy#it’ll be fine I just need to whine and Lament#fellow adults that drive sometimes….are we feelin this pain ….car shopping is evil

INDIANA
2024 Aug 28 (Wed) – We packed up and left Elkhart at 9:40. It was just 2 and ½ hours to the Jefferson Township Park Campground in New Haven. This is a small county fairground with maybe 6 to 8 camp spots. We have electric and water hookups. There is a dump station but for one night, I don’t think we will need it. The campground is kind of far from town so we didn’t go anywhere. And we don’t really need gas since we only drove 113 today and will drive 130 tomorrow to Ohio.
2024 Aug 27 (Tue) – The temperatures have shot up. It was 93 degrees today! I guess there’s some kind of system passing through the Midwest. We spent the day inside, working on caravan and national muster prep.
The weirdest thing happened while we were doing the laundry. At wash time, I put my bra in a net bag. When the wash is done, I remove it and put it aside while the rest of the wash goes in the dryer. I take it back to the trailer and hang it in the shower to dry. Well, after I took my bra out of the washer, put it aside, and put the clothes in the dryer, I turned to get the bag and found it missing. We looked between the washers, on the floor, and even in back of the washer but it couldn’t be found anywhere. We even stopped the dryers and looked through the clothes there, but nothing. After the clothes were dry and we had them back and folded at the RV, there was still no bra. It’s as if it grew legs and just walked away. Very weird.
2024 Aug 26 (Mon) – We packed up and left at 7:40 a.m. to bring our RV to Fun Town RV. They will be looking at 3 issues we have with the rig and, hopefully, fix them. We have a leak in the bedroom, the rubber seal on the living room slide keeps working itself out when we drive, and the solar control panel has an error code that we have not been able to clear.
While the rig was at the dealer, we went out to breakfast. It took 3 tries before we found a place that was open. It looked really skeevy outside but it was quite nice inside. The meal was plentiful and good. Afterward, we drove back to the campground and sat in the truck, waiting for a call to come pick up our RV. At lunchtime, we drove to a Steak N Shake for burgers. Sheba got a taste so she was happy, too.
We returned to the dealer at 4 p.m. The mechanic told us he broke his key in the lock and so, he replaced the lock on the door. He then told us what he did. The slide had left-over glue and tar that was catching on the rubber seal. He tried to scrape it all off then covered it with silver tape. He thinks that solved the problem. We’ll see the next time we ride on down the road. The mechanic then told us that he found a small hole in the bedroom slide that might have been the cause of the leak. He repaired that. Lastly, he found a reset button on the bottom of the solar control box in the basement. It is not easily visible and he had to call the vendor to discover it. We will put a label there so we will know from now on. He also told us that we need to keep the area clear so it can get some air. We currently have it packed full with all the stuff we will be donating to SMART. Paul later moved the stuff around.
2024 Aug 25 (Sun) – We drove 108 miles from Zeeland, MI, to the Elkhart Campground. This is a very nice campground. I even recommended it to Nita, who is looking for a site for the 2026 national muster. Hopefully, they pick this campground. It is laid out nice. Has a nice smattering of trees. Have over 350 campsites with full hookups and pull through sites. The laundry room has 8 washers and 8 dryers, all in working order.
After set up, we drove to Fun Town RV to see where it is. We will be bringing the RV there tomorrow to (hopefully) get a few things fixed on the rig. When we got back, we did some laundry.

Alternator Repair Service
How does an alternator help your car run?
The alternator is the component that charges the battery in your car. When you use electrical components in your car (stereo, lights, etc.), the battery loses power. The alternator recharges the battery, replenishing the lost battery power. The alternator is located in the engine compartment. If the alternator is not working properly, your car will only stay running for as long as the battery has power stored. Once the battery loses power, your car will not start. Normally, a malfunctioning alternator will turn on the battery warning light or will have a low volt gauge reading.
Alternator
Before repairing the alternator:
The mechanic should check the entire charging system before installing a new alternator, including checking battery cables for corrosion and the condition of the battery.
Steps when replacing an alternator:
Inspect entire charging system (battery, cables, alternator).
Inspect the drive belts.
Test alternator output.
Remove and replace alternator if found to be faulty.
Re-test alternator output.
Our recommendation for alternator replacements:
Ask your mechanic to inspect the condition of the charging system during every major service. The mechanic should also clean and tighten the battery cables during every major service.
What common symptoms indicate you may need to replace the Alternator?
Dead battery or battery will not hold a charge.
Dim lights.
Battery warning light is on.
Why repairing your alternator is important?
Your alternator charges your battery, which powers the electronics in your vehicle, such as the radio and the air conditioning. The battery is also needed to turn on your vehicle. A malfunctioning alternator will not charge your car’s battery, and your vehicle will eventually run out of battery life and not be able to start.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What’s better for auto repairs – dealer vs mechanic?
What are the pros and cons of considering a dealer vs mechanic for your next car repairs?
Dealer:
Familiarity: The dealer is the expert on the brand and the specifics of your vehicle. Certain repairs – like tire rotation or oil change – are pretty universal but dealerships are always receiving new technical bulletins or specialized training from the automaker. Plus they’ve probably seen the repair – on a car like yours – before. If an independent auto shop only repairs one or two brands, this might not be a concern. But if your mechanic services all makes, models and years, that’s a lot of knowledge to keep straight.
Speed: Dealerships usually have more technicians and more repair bays operating at once, which can save you time. Speed also comes from familiarity. A dealership can often target the problem immediately, where an independent mechanic might need a little more time to figure it out.
Access: Most dealerships have common parts in stock or readily available.
Comfort: Dealerships usually have a large waiting area with amenities like comfy chairs, snacks & coffee and a TV set tuned to the local news. They’re also far more likely to offer a loaner car or courtesy shuttle so you’re not stranded.
Warranty coverage: When a vehicle is newer, warranty repairs have to happen at the dealer. And certain parts might also have a different warranty depending on whether they’re the “genuine” parts or not.
Independent Mechanic:
Relationships: A lot of people prefer to build a rapport with one person. Trust is important for every business relationship. And an independent mechanic is first and foremost loyal to you, not the manufacturer he or she works for.
Direct access: At a dealership, you talk to a service advisor who passes the info on to a technician. At a smaller auto shop, you’re probably speaking directly with the person under the hood.
And, of course, you also need to factor in maintenance items like oil change, tire rotations, air filter change, and spark plug replacement.

New & Used Caravan sales Australia
Looking for new or used caravan sales Australia? Here are some things to keep in mind. Purchasing a camper trailer often represents a significant financial commitment. You should thus invest your money into a good caravan, whether it's an off-road version or a pop-top.
Why should you invest in a caravan for your family?
One of the main factors driving many families to own caravans is the desire for independence. Organizing a road trip can be a lot of fun. And this is especially true if you are going on the journey with a large group of people.
Having the option to stop at any roadside café and make a pot of tea just adds to this sensation. Caravan enthusiasts claim that this never gets old.
You can avoid the inconvenient and sometimes unsanitary public restrooms by the side of the road. And that's because now you have your own toilet on board. In particular, those at gas stations that call for a unique key purchased at the front desk. Have you arrived at a location but are unsure about the general atmosphere?
Get the straps wrapped and get out of here. You've only booked two nights at the campground despite your enthusiasm for it. Prolong it if you can.
To tell you the truth, this is excellent stuff. Feel the independence!
Important factors to consider when looking for new or used caravan sales Australia
It's no secret that a caravan isn't the most affordable vehicle option. A clear understanding of what has to be looked for and what should be expected is crucial. A new caravan may be within reach for some, but for others, a used one is their only option.
Have you heard individuals whine that they are unhappy with their new caravan? Privately purchasing a caravan might result in disappointment. There are occasions when you may gain nothing but headaches. Take into account the following:
1. The helpfulness of the sales staff as well as their professional demeanour
This is a crucial consideration when looking for caravan sales Australia. In any industry, the first impression is the most important one. There is no stress involved because of the helpful and kind sales staff. The knowledgeable sales staff will help you choose a caravan that is perfect for your family.
A competent sales staff will evaluate all potential trade-ins and handle the necessary documentation on their own. The dealer must have access to highly skilled financiers to help those in need of financial assistance. When dealing with these lenders, you may expect swift and painless approval. The process of obtaining funding doesn't take days when you want to buy a new or used caravan.
2. Compare prices
Price is a critical determinant when purchasing a used or new caravan. Try to find sellers that have honest pricing with no additional fees. There must be a gas certificate, consideration for transfer costs, and roadworthy condition on all caravans for sale in Australia.
You are also assured of a clean title on the trailer. And this means no liens or other encumbrances will be placed on the vehicle. Furthermore, this means the RV has never been lost, damaged, or stolen.
3. Perform a Detailed Mechanical Inspection
Before you buy a caravan, you should have it inspected thoroughly from a mechanical standpoint. And this is especially important when you look for used caravans. It must undergo a thorough service and mechanical check by certified professionals.
Caravans are rechecked by trustworthy dealers before being sold to customers. Some examples of mechanical services are:
Checking the 12V and 240V systems in the caravan and making sure everything is working properly.
Brake, bearing, suspension, and chassis maintenance and repair
Gas appliances, certifications, and pressure testing are all part of gas safety inspections.
Perform battery or 12V tests to check the functionality of all 12V components
If your caravan isn't doing what you want it to, it's likely to cause you a lot of worry. A well-made trailer shouldn't break the bank and shouldn't need constant maintenance. Because of these stringent checks, you can buy a caravan in Australia with complete confidence that it will serve you well. It won't break down on you immediately and need immediate attention from a repairman.
4. Think About the Transfer Procedure
Where does the agency stand on the handoff process? Before handing over the camper, does the sales staff go through all the features and regulations? Every aspect of your used or new caravan's functionality must be reviewed with the customer service staff throughout the handover process. This will further guarantee that your vacation goes off without a hitch.
Any vehicle, electrical, or towing equipment might be organised with your caravan by them as well. Last but not least, you'll need the assistance of a knowledgeable staff member to learn about the optional upgrades available. You need expert advice for both new and pre-owned caravans. By the time you're done here, you'll know all there is to know about operating the caravan.
The dealer's primary objective should be to simplify your life by answering all your questions. Caravan sales Australia are mainly dependent on the handover procedure.
5. Quality of Service Following Purchase
When looking for caravan sales Australia, this is also a crucial consideration. Caravans may help you save money in the long run. But you need the reliable after-sale services provided after you've made a purchase.
There has to be specialised backup and after-sales support personnel that is both knowledgeable and helpful. Calling the service and parts department is all it takes to have your caravan fixed in an emergency.
Wrapping up
When you go camping in Australia, you get to see the greatest, most remote parts of the country. And you will also find some really interesting places to stay once you start exploring. That's the appeal of camping at unaffiliated sites: you never know what hidden gems you could uncover.
Whether you're in the market for a new or used caravan in Australia, keep the points made above in mind.

Shopping for a Used RV? 3 Things Everyone Needs to Know
Shopping for a used RV can be a lot of fun. You get to see what’s on the market and check out all sorts of motorhome and RV amenities. At the same time, it can be challenging. Like any major purchase, there are plenty of variables to consider. Armed with the right knowledge, however, browsing used motorhomes for sale can be a breeze. As you jump into the used RV market, here are a few essential tips to keep in mind. They can save you a headache—and help make your search that much easier.
Look for Any Sign of Water Damage There’s a reason this tip is front and center. Water damage is one of the primary details you want to look for in any used motorhome or RV. It’s a common tip for used car shopping, too. You simply never know where a used RV may have been in the past. It could have endured a major storm, like a hurricane, or a flood. Or it may have experienced internal water damage due to plumbing issues. Regardless of the source of the water damage, here are a few signs to look for: • Warped flooring, along with soft spots that may indicate rotting under the floors • Dark stains on the floors and walls • Peeling materials along the floors, in corners, on walls • Signs of leaks around the toilet, shower, sink, etc. • Corrosion on any metal surface or fitting (inside and out) • Any sign of mold Check Out Every Onboard System RVs are often packed with different functional systems you want while enjoying your next adventure. This can include electrical, gas, plumbing, HVAC, and appliances. It’s good to visit a dealer with a checklist of items you’d like to inspect. Any top RV dealer Idaho shoppers love will no doubt be accommodating. They’ll likely walk you through every part of the RV, ensuring no stone is left unturned. Do all the interior power sockets work? Do all the electrical components function properly? Does the toilet flush? Does the sink provide adequate water? Does the potable water tank reliably hold water? Do the heat and air conditioning work? There may be a long list of systems to check out, but it’s absolutely worth your time. And on that point, take your time with each system and appliance. Whether you inspect them yourself or bring along someone you trust to check them out for you, be sure not to skip this step. Give It a Thorough Once Over From the Top of the Roof to the Bottom of the Tires You’ve probably heard the old phrase, “kick the tires.” It’s a good rule of thumb to keep in the back of your mind when shopping for a used RV. You want to give the RV’s exterior a complete and thorough once-over to check for potential defects or issues. If you can get up on the roof, check it out. Look at seals and potential places water can get in. Do you notice any sagging or cracks? Make your way down the sides and look for similar issues. Check around every window, door, storage compartment, or service bay. Look on the underside and check for corrosion or parts that may need to be serviced. And yes, kick the tires! Look at the tread and overall quality of the tires. If everything looks good and no red flags pop up, fantastic! You’re one step closer to landing yourself an amazing used RV. About DDRV DDRV, Marine, and Powersports is your source for adventure! Since 1974, DDRV has been a family-owned business and an Idaho staple. Today, they’re the largest motorhome dealer in the state. NEW MEXICO
2023 Jan 24 (Tue) – We woke to snow this morning! It rained during the night and it got cold enough to turn white. It was mostly a dusting but still cold. We discovered we don’t have an ice scraper.
We packed up in a light snowfall and left Van Horn, TX, at 9:15 a.m. It was a very long drive today (220 miles). We stopped for lunch at McDonald’s and had burgers and coffee. Sheba is having a hard time with the new truck. We’re not sure what is bothering her but we’ll keep fooling around with her place and see if we can’t make her happy. We passed from Central Time into the Mountain Time Zone.
We arrived at Dream Catchers RV Park in Deming around 1 p.m. We stayed here on the way to Comanche and now we are back here on our return trip to Arizona. It was very cold all day with a strong wind blowing. We had snow, then sleet, then rain during our drive. Our gas mileage really dropped. We were only getting 9 mpg. And Paul is still trying work out the bugs.
After set up, we drove into town to get fuel for tomorrow’s trip. Then we stopped at WalMart to pick up a license plate holder. The snow and rain made our temporary paper plate warp.
We called the Ford dealer to find out where the paperwork is. They were supposed to send it to Your Best Address in South Dakota so we can register the truck in South Dakota. The taxes are more than half what New York taxes are. The dealer told me it was sent to the Minnehaha County Office instead. This is starting to look like a real screw up. We only have 30 days on the temp plates. I advised the agent at Your Best Address and he will go to the DMV tomorrow to see if he can find the paperwork.
I got a letter form the VA today awarding me 100% disability rating because of my lymphoma. They say it is service-connected. That’s good. It turns out that there is a set amount that is awarded for each degree of disability rating. If you are getting retired pay, they will subtract that from the disability payment and send you the difference. It’s still a welcome addition to our income. It will also be retroactive back to August 10 when the PACT Act was passed.
We figured out an interesting thing with the truck today. The truck has a button where you can pre-set your seat. Paul arranged his seat and mirrors the way he likes them and set that on the #1 button. Each time he gets out of the truck, the steering wheel lifts up and the seat moves back to allow him to get out. When he gets back in the truck, the seat, steering wheel and mirrors should all go back to the #1 position. They don’t. Paul has to push the button to have everything move back to where he wants it. The dealer suggested that we had both keys too close together and that we should separate them. I left my key in the trailer and Paul went out to see if the setting would hold. It did not. Then I said maybe I had the master key and he had the copy. So he took my key out to the truck while we kept his key in the RV. That worked! His setting now stays in place.

Ideas for Lots to Fill a Hood
I made a list like this before, and there’s already tons of other ones around the internet just like it. Buuut I can’t stop myself from making useless lists :P
I’m probably just bad at remembering this simple rule, but a hood can become much more realistic if you split up businesses/industry across multiple singularly dedicated lots rather than a single tiny one-stop place (which is how I usually do it).
So I wanted to make a list to remind myself that not only can there be a lot just for clothes, but there can be multiple clothing shops themed in more than one way, like costumes versus lingerie.
Then there’s buildings I listed just for the possible realism they add, like industrial buildings. Some of those may only be possible through hood deco instead of visitable lots, which personally I might overlook without having a list to remind me of the concept. Sooo maybe you’ll find it similarly useful idk
