I used to work at a liquor store and the number of inexperienced drinkers we had to save from Everclear poisoning was huge. I remember the time two girls came in, freshly 21 (IDs were legit, you don't fuck around with that), and grabbed a half-gallon (1.75L) of the stuff while giggling. They probably didn't weigh 180 pounds combined. I asked if they were having a party, as a half gallon would be a good starter for a trash can full of jungle juice; they replied, "A small one, just us and our boyfriends."

I put the half gallon back and gave them a pint. Told them to come back if they wanted more once they had worked their way through it. If they had had the mein of experienced drinkers I might have let them have the big bottle, but they were treating being in the store as if it was a forbidden adventure. If they'd ever had more than a wine cooler or some Boone's Farm in one sitting, I'll eat my hat. We got people going for the Everclear like that maybe once a week.
