My Introduction to WEEN ('95)

It began with a Columbia House record club purchase

Eight CD’s for a penny

All I knew of Ween at the time Was the one minute airtime from the Beavis and Butthead show …where they made fun of them… Saying these guys have no future

But out of those 60 seconds I felt a click in my chest And kept Ween in the back of my mind

So When I saw Ween’s record, Pure Guava Listed on the record club I knew I had to get it

And I did

I was working at a photo lab at the time …making my money in a dark room While playing music from my cheap CD player

Hungover one morning I went to my room And placed Guava in the box

killed the lights and smacked the play button

I had never heard such sounds

It only took six tracks to make me feel Like I discovered something big

With each new song I would grow more and more excited

I remember feeling worried That the rest of the album Would not hold up

But it did

Every tune a winner …no disappointment at all

The music felt like a celebration …joy and humor abounding around The strange production The weird lyrics

Their friendship turned me on

Two guys Making music For themselves And making it count

Soon afterwards I bought myself a Tascam recorder Just like the machine that Ween used To record this album

They put a fire in my heart

I wanted to create weirdness as well

And for a year or so That’s what I did

Made cheap music with my limited abilities

I felt good about myself

Soon, I got All of their remaining CD’s

Soon, Ween was all I was listening to

I felt like it was my Creative responsibility To share this music with everyone

I made mixed Ween tapes for anyone Who would want one.

Even my Mom

But that day …my first day with the brothers Ween Is still a day I remember happily

The morning I became Down with the brown

unironically my biggest comfort album, i love this fucking dumb record so much. i love ween, i love gene & dean, i love brown music. this is peak music and i love it. push th' little daisies is my top 3 favorite song after pizza boy by jack stauber & a song for dustmites by steve burns.
