I promise to leave the porch light on for you.
Just a flicker in the dark
but bright and constant as the north star,
a glowing reminder
that I am here for you, my love.
If the cloak of night becomes too heavy
and you can’t find your way home,
rest assured; you’ll still see me
no matter the distance
no matter the miles.
Look for my heart.
It will always burn for you,
eternal torch at the end of a road
paved with fire.
If wind gusts and torrential rains
make you lose all sense of direction,
I’ll be your lighthouse by the shore.
I would wait for you
toes in sand, arms outstretched, open hands.
I could be your safe place
to shelter from the storm.
