another thing that pissed me off today was reading letterboxd reviews of the substance by men saying it was too on the nose basically like it hits you over the head with the “shallow, overdone” theme of beauty standards for women in the entertainment industry or whatever and it “doesn’t have anything else to say” (i was under the impression that that WAS the premise of the film??? what more do you want it to say). one guy was like this movie ignores the body positivity movement and the great strides we’ve made as a culture etc etc like shut the fuck up!!!!! shut up!!!!!! apparently you haven’t noticed that we are actively regressing in terms of the body positivity/body neutrality/anti diet culture movements.“beauty” and makeup culture, diet culture, plastic surgery, and other trends and social mores that dictate women’s appearances are extremely ingrained in our pop culture consciousness rn. marketers might use different terms to disguise what they’re doing like the bastardized “choice feminism” but it’s just the same shit repackaged and we’ve barely made any progress. if you think we’re past the point where “beauty standards are bad” is a useful message in a film, you are wrong!!!!! i haven’t even seen this movie yet, i was trying to decide if i wanted to go see this movie, and that attitude just rubs me the wrong way. it’s like trying to find an excuse why people don’t want movies with overtly feminist themes — is it “too on the nose” and unnecessary or do you just not want there to be movies with overtly feminist themes

Budapest. Hungary. June 2024
At Berlin airport, it was surprising that they ask you to put photographic film out of your luggage. As it turned out, it was to avoid spoiling them. They must have gotten new super powerful scanners. I can only thank them for taking care of my films, which were scanned with another machine.
Yes, I'm traveling alone again. This does not embarrass me at all, but only emphasizes my freedom and independence to act.
On the first day, of course, I climbed the nearest hill and from there I successfully hid in the national gallery from the scorching sun. For me, a person who thinks in terms of history and culture, nothing says more about the place where I am than the National Gallery. And in Budapest, it's really good! Compared to the quality of the works of the Verger artists, Berlin loses the pomp of the Kaiser's time or the greenishness of 1920. In the National Gallery of Budapest I found very many truly high works in their own right. But there was also something in it that made me think. As soon as the art of the Romantics is replaced by Impressionism as a trend of visualization, the paintings begin to painfully resemble copies of the French masters. This surprised me so much. The quality is of course superb and I have sometimes caught myself thinking that the Hungarians do it even better. And so it went on in cubism and in the avant-garde. It got to the point of absurdity that I saw a painting that was 100% painted by Gerhard Richter. But no, it was some obscure Hungarian artist again.
At first I wondered, where is the Hungarian originality missing? Or is it all a logical consequence of cultural influences. Or is it all about the curator of the gallery trying to conform to the trends of the market? Everything in me suspects that the latter assumption is true. Especially if we rely on the latest critique of contemporary consumer society as described in Oliver Roy's book "The Crisis of Culture".
On the second day, I discovered that I am a bad tourist. In the sense that it's not easy for me to sell anything. In the part of the city of Pest that is on the left side of the Danube River, there are the very streets that horrify me, filled with fat tourists, expensive cafes with disgusting coffee and all the clothing stores that are probably the same all over Europe. Strangely, I can't bring myself to interact with reality in such places. I find that I will avoid these streets in the future and will consider the day I stepped into them a tourist mistake.
I was fascinated by the city's trams. They make you want to keep up with them. Of all the films that were shot in Budapest (12 pieces of 12 frames each), at least two were spent on trams. As it turned out, streetcars are the most popular transportation in Budapest. Their intervals are sometimes as long as 60 seconds due to the incredible congestion during rush hours.
The castle on Buda Mountain with its incredible beauty of architecture right next to the ugly plastic and impersonal building of the Redison Hotel made me smile. What an absurd world we live in.
I love it when a city has so many hills. Perhaps because I was born in a hilly city, I feel alive making an incredible effort in the thirty-degree heat to climb one more hill. It's a pity Berlin is so flat.
As a bad tourist, I found all the areas where there are no tourists, where you can see how ordinary people live, and therefore how things really are.
On the last day I received a message that my flight was cancelled. So I was stuck for 3 hours in a history museum trying to get a seat on another plane and book a room for the night. The museum was useful, even if the guard looked at me with suspicion. I was a little worried that my credit card wasn't working. But everything worked out, and after I transported my luggage to the new location, I went to Mount St. Galert. The sky was very beautiful even after, Friday evening in Budapest. It's so unforgettable. That evening I fell in love with Budapest and threw a coin into the Danube as a sign or desire to return again. I didn’t regret at all that my plane was cancelled at all.

'Barbenheimer, the cultural phenomenon that crossed the streams between the theatrical releases of Barbie and Oppenheimer, continues to dominate the news cycle. While the internet has buzzed about Barbenheimer for quite some time, the reality of this mythic double feature has been exciting to behold on a personal level.
Though the box office results have been impressive, there may still be a bunch of you readers who haven’t gotten onto the Barbenheimer bandwagon. It’s understandable, but should you have any reservations about why you should jump into the Barbenheimer experience, I’ve got you covered. Avoiding spoilers, here’s a list of reasons why it’s never too late to get in on this pop-culture trend.
Barbenheimer Tickets (and Better Seats) Probably Are Easier To Find Now
It’s true that opening weekend was a surprising smash for Barbenheimer. If you hadn’t secured tickets early enough, chances are you missed out on the fun of Barbie and Oppenheimer running back to back. That likelihood is even greater if you’ve been trying to track down Christopher Nolan’s historical epic in its preferred IMAX 70mm format.
No matter how you enjoy these pictures in the wild, the next couple of weeks are definitely going to be crazy when trying to buy into Barbenheimer. Don’t give up though, because if you get to partake in this joyful occasion, it’s going to pay off in several other ways.
The Audience For Both Movies Makes For A Unique People-Watching Experience
Photos of people dressed for both Barbie and Oppenheimer have been so much fun to observe. Whether it’s someone decked out in their best pink ensemble, a dour black suit and hat, or a t-shirt combining the two in a satisfying mashup, people have been showing up in style for this monumental draw.
Now you may prefer one half over the other, as we saw with our own Erik Swann’s first hand account of the Barbenheimer experience. However, you’re not going to know until you actually take the ride for yourself. Also, even if you end up disliking or liking these movies on equal levels, being a part of this real world experience is a hell of a way to celebrate the movie theater experience.
Theatrical Double Features Like This Aren’t Very Common
The “double feature” isn’t a new experience, as it harkens back to the classic days of cinema. It’s as ingrained in the DNA of moviegoing as cartoon shorts, newsreels, and popcorn; and surviving drive-ins still do it. At your regular multiplex however, it’s a more manually driven experience, save for catch-up marathons that might play to promote newer movies.
As such, the box office tends to compete movie versus movie with the ticket buying public; as seen in the recently examined history of iconic movies that premiered on the same date. And yet, Barbie and Oppenheimer cracked that pattern by becoming a long standing meme. Sure, people started to joke about Barbenheimer long before it even had a name, but people committed to the bit eventually. Which, when you look at both movies, isn’t as crazy as you’d think.
Soundtracks Such As These Need To Be Heard In A Theater
Primarily we “watch” movies, so the visual aspect is something that clearly gets a lot of attention when marketing a film. Moving past that layer and appreciating things like costume design, performance, and even the music of a movie is something that more intense movie fans tend to focus on, in addition to said visuals. And if you're a music fan, both Barbie and Oppenheimer have reasons you should be excited to get to a local theater.
On one hand, the Barbie soundtrack is an embarrassment of riches when it comes to the artists featured. Billie Eilish, Lizzo, and an Ice Spice/Nicki Minaj collab are just some of the highlights one can expect from that fantastic plastic world. However, if you needed one song to convince you to see this movie in theaters, it’s Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night.” It’s been in all the trailers, so you don’t need to listen to it again. Just trust me when I say that it sounds perfect in theatrical surround sound.
Flipping to the other side of this coin, Ludwig Göransson’s score to Oppenheimer captures everything from unholy dread to scientific awe. It propels an already gorgeous movie to greater heights, and certainly hammers the important parts into the film with the right gravity. So if you're looking for two movies that might make driving home a bit more exciting, look no further than this pair of soundtracks.
Barbenheimer Is A Supporting Performance Powerhouse (That The Oscars Should Reward)
One of the big similarities between both Barbie and Oppenheimer is the fact that audiences can’t stop talking about key supporting performances from both. With Barbie, Ryan Gosling’s Ken was a shoo-in to steal the spotlight, and he definitely lives up to those expectations.
Though the even more impressive scene stealer is America Ferrera, whose monologue about being a woman in the modern world has already captivated audiences in the post-release discourse. On that same wavelength Oppenheimer’s massive cast also showed potential for cast members to bring their A-game against Cillian Murphy’s sterling central performance.
While the whole lot do indeed stand shoulder to shoulder with Christopher Nolan’s lead, it’s Robert Downey Jr. that snuck in and delivered the goods as the MVP. So while you may be showing up for Murphy and Margot Robbie’s front and center protagonists, be prepared to be wowed by some other key players in these separate universes. Think of it as getting more bang for your buck.
Barbie And Oppenheimer Are Kind Of Perfect Together
Superficially, the hyper colorful world of Barbie and the haunting world of Oppenheimer look like a pair that would not go together. Who would realistically expect Greta Gerwig’s examination of feminism/tribute to cinema to pair with Christopher Nolan’s sobering biopic about atomic physics? Look a little closer though, and you can see one common thread links these two movies in a special way.
Through both of these creation-themed stories, one can experience a reckoning with the intentions behind each gadget, and the effects it had on society at large. Barbie inspired young women just as Oppenheimer’s atomic bomb inspired humanity, with both inventions becoming double edged legacies we’re still talking about today.
Of course, Barbie ends on a more positive note than the chillingly unique ending to Oppenheimer. So if you do book yourself into the Barbenheimer experience, it’s recommended you see the historical epic first, then calm down with some neon colored introspective comedy. Should you choose to follow that suggestion or not, both films are currently showing at a theater near you.'

Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) is a key raw material in the production of polyester fibers, films, and resins. It plays a pivotal role in industries ranging from textiles to packaging, and its price fluctuations can have a significant impact on various supply chains and end products. PTA is primarily produced by oxidizing paraxylene (PX), and its demand is closely tied to the growth of the polyester industry. The price of PTA is influenced by a variety of factors, including raw material costs, energy prices, production capacity, and global demand trends.
In this article, we explore the key drivers behind PTA price fluctuations, analyze the current market situation, and provide insights into potential future trends.
Get Real time Prices for Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA): https://www.chemanalyst.com/Pricing-data/purified-terephthalic-acid-pta-18
Overview of PTA
PTA is an organic compound that is used primarily in the production of polyester, which is one of the most widely used synthetic fibers in the textile industry. It is also used in the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is used in the manufacture of plastic bottles, films, and other packaging materials. PTA accounts for a significant portion of global demand for chemicals, particularly in emerging markets such as China, India, and Southeast Asia.
The global PTA market has witnessed steady growth over the past several years, largely driven by the growing demand for polyester and PET products. The demand for these materials is influenced by consumer trends in fashion, packaging, and automotive sectors. As global economies recover from disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the PTA market is expected to continue to expand, albeit at varying rates depending on regional market dynamics.
Factors Affecting PTA Prices
Several key factors influence the price of PTA, and understanding these drivers is crucial for businesses involved in the supply chain of PTA-dependent products. These factors include:
1. Raw Material Costs
The primary raw material used in the production of PTA is paraxylene (PX), which is derived from crude oil. As a result, PTA prices are directly influenced by fluctuations in the price of crude oil and PX. When oil prices rise, the cost of PX increases, which in turn pushes up PTA production costs. Conversely, when oil prices fall, PTA prices tend to decrease. Given the global interconnectedness of oil markets, PTA manufacturers are particularly vulnerable to shifts in global oil supply and demand dynamics.
In recent years, the volatile nature of global oil prices, driven by geopolitical tensions, OPEC decisions, and shifts in demand, has created a degree of uncertainty in the PTA market. For instance, the surge in oil prices in 2024 significantly impacted the prices of PX and PTA, leading to higher production costs.
2. Supply and Demand Dynamics
The balance between PTA supply and demand is another critical factor influencing pricing. Overcapacity in PTA production can lead to price decreases, while periods of tight supply can push prices higher. For example, in 2023 and early 2024, there was an oversupply of PTA in certain regions, particularly in China, which led to price declines. Conversely, demand spikes, such as those driven by growing consumption of PET bottles and fibers in packaging and textile applications, can create upward pressure on prices.
Demand from emerging markets, particularly in Asia, is a key driver of PTA consumption. The ongoing expansion of the middle class in regions like Southeast Asia and India, coupled with increased demand for consumer goods and packaging, supports the overall growth of the PTA market.
3. Energy Prices
Energy costs, especially natural gas and electricity, play a vital role in PTA production. The production of PTA is energy-intensive, and any fluctuations in energy prices can directly impact PTA prices. For example, sharp increases in electricity or gas prices, particularly in regions that rely heavily on energy for manufacturing, can increase the production cost of PTA. This has been evident in recent years, where high energy prices in Europe have contributed to higher costs in the PTA sector.
4. Environmental Regulations and Sustainability Trends
Environmental concerns and sustainability initiatives are reshaping the chemical industry, including PTA production. Stricter environmental regulations regarding emissions and waste management in key manufacturing regions like China and Europe have raised production costs for PTA manufacturers. Furthermore, growing consumer demand for eco-friendly products and sustainable packaging is influencing PTA producers to adopt greener production methods. The shift towards recycling and the use of bio-based feedstocks could eventually lead to changes in PTA pricing structures.
5. Currency Fluctuations
Since PTA is traded globally, currency exchange rates play an important role in determining the cost of PTA in various regions. Fluctuations in the value of major currencies, such as the US dollar, the Chinese yuan, and the euro, can impact the relative pricing of PTA in different markets. A weaker US dollar, for example, could make PTA more expensive in countries where the currency is stronger, affecting the competitiveness of local PTA manufacturers and global trade.
Current PTA Price Trends
As of late 2024, PTA prices have been relatively stable, after experiencing significant volatility in the previous years. Prices saw a sharp rise in 2022 due to high raw material and energy costs, followed by a period of correction in 2023, as global demand stabilized and supply chains recovered from pandemic-related disruptions. In regions such as China, where PTA production is concentrated, price fluctuations have been closely linked to domestic supply-demand imbalances, as well as government policies on energy consumption and environmental compliance.
Currently, PTA prices remain influenced by global economic conditions, energy prices, and the ongoing shifts in raw material costs. Key regions such as Asia-Pacific and Europe continue to experience significant demand for PTA, though production costs vary based on energy pricing and government regulations.
Future Outlook
Looking ahead, PTA prices are expected to experience moderate growth, driven by the continued demand for polyester and PET products in packaging, textiles, and automotive industries. However, the rate of growth will largely depend on several factors, including:
Global Oil Prices: Fluctuations in crude oil prices will continue to be a critical factor in determining PTA prices, as oil remains a primary feedstock for PX production.
Shift Towards Sustainable Products: As sustainability becomes an increasing priority for manufacturers and consumers alike, there may be more investments in recycling technologies and bio-based alternatives to PTA. This could lead to price adjustments as new production methods and feedstocks are introduced.
Regional Market Dynamics: In emerging markets, such as India and Southeast Asia, the demand for PTA will likely continue to grow, supporting long-term price increases. However, competition and production capacity expansions may limit the extent of price hikes in these regions.
Geopolitical and Economic Factors: Trade policies, geopolitical tensions, and economic growth rates will also play a significant role in shaping the PTA market. For instance, any disruptions in the global supply chain or trade relations could impact PTA production and prices.
Conclusion
Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) is a vital commodity with a wide array of applications in textiles, packaging, and other industries. PTA prices are influenced by a complex set of factors, including raw material costs, energy prices, environmental regulations, and global supply-demand imbalances. As the market for polyester and PET products continues to grow, PTA prices are expected to experience moderate growth, though they will remain subject to fluctuations driven by economic, geopolitical, and industry-specific dynamics. Understanding these factors is crucial for businesses involved in the PTA supply chain and for those looking to navigate the complexities of global pricing trends.

'Barbie. Oppenheimer.
A doll and a very real man. Adapted for the big screen by writer-director Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan, respectively, the life stories of these 20th-century icons have become the most talked-about films of the post-pandemic era. That the seemingly opposite projects – a quasi-musical about Barbie, with her Dreamhouse and hot pink aesthetic, and a biopic about J Robert Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb and destroyer of worlds – would open on the same day (that’s today, 21 July!) and play side by side at movie theatres is a bona fide pop-culture phenomenon of its own. Like the popular saying goes: “Inside of you there are two wolves.”
One of these wolves has resulted in a deluge of content unlike anything we’ve seen before – can you even remember life before Barbiecore took over everything? Barbie is always happy and dressed like she’s got somewhere fun to be. In the movie, she’s outfitted in quite a bit of Chanel. She is also a beloved (and sometimes maligned) American product with decades of marketing behind her, so it makes sense that everyone grabbed onto this aesthetic. The crazier and more screwed up the real world gets, the more we find ourselves wishing for the “no thoughts, just vibes” lifestyle of our favourite plastic girl.
But you know who also probably wished for a “no thoughts, just vibes” lifestyle? One Mr J Robert Oppenheimer.
Of course, war itself could also be described as an American product with decades – nay, centuries – of marketing behind it. As vastly different as they look, these two films deal with similar subjects. Now I’m not saying that Oppenheimer is Barbie for men, though it’s true that people went as crazy for Cillian Murphy in a sheer Saint Laurent shirt at a recent premiere as they have for Margot Robbie’s many archival Barbie-inspired red-carpet looks. And that got me thinking about Oppenheimercore – what would an aesthetic trend created around darkness and destruction look like?
Most on the internet have equated Oppenheimer with a goth look, but Oppenheimercore is not just about wearing black – though it’s obvious bright colours have no place here. Oppenheimercore can be as classic as wearing a dark suit but with soft edges that symbolise the scientist’s turmoil. Oppenheimercore revolves around men with jobs – really important jobs. See the man in his army uniform, see the man in his lab coat, see the man in his worker’s overalls, his leather apron, his hazmat suit. Oppenheimercore explores the beauty of destruction and the physical and emotional toll of its aftermath. Oppenheimercore can even extend to include the lifelong anti-war efforts of our titular man.
Looking at the recent men’s collections through this lens was a playful thought exercise, the results of which are a bit of tongue-in-cheek cosplay, but it’s worth noting that it was easy to find matching looks. My guess is the sartorial influence of this movie will be reflected in seasons to come, but the malaise about the general state of the world, the sense that everything that we are doing will also eventually lead to our demise… Well, let’s just say it’s a trending feeling.
...(And in case you’re wondering, the correct order for a double feature is Barbie then Oppenheimer.)'
