list of mixed name ideas (october 29, 2024)
i sorted them into three categories: androgynous, feminine and masculine.
in this list, there's any type of names (mostly for english-speaking people though): typical first names, noun names, mythology names, etc.
if you have more ideas of names for trans folks, writers, etc, just lemme know! (Can also be not-so-cool names for the writers, we need them for the asshole side characters :3)
i will update the list every time I have a lot of new name suggestions. this is not the newest version, but you can find it under the tag #updated name list on my profile.

The Celebrations of Queen Mary’s Rise to the Throne
In London on the 19th, in contrast to the silent reception of the heralds for Jane, Mary’s proclamation was joyously received: ‘bonfires were without number, and what with shouting and crying of the people and ringing of the belles, no one among us could hear what another said, besides banqueting and singing in the street for joy. Another anonymous London chronicle recorded similarly ‘the joy whereof wonderful for some caste money abroad, & some made bonfires through the whole city: the praises were given to God in the churches with te deum & organs, belles ringing & every where the tables spread in the streets, meats & drinks plenty, and wine given freely to many men’…although Guaras’s witty and ironic literary allusion comically exaggerated the people’s love, English sources bear out his reading of the public mood.

Franklin's lost expedition crew
I was looking at posts about AMC's The Terror and I kept getting confused by the use of first names, so I wanted to see how many of the characters had the same names. Arranging the crew in alphabetical order, I got:
1 x Abraham (Seeley)
4 x Alexander (Berry, McDonald, Paterson, Wilson)
5 x Charles (Best, Coombs, Des Voeux, Johnson, Osmer)
1 x Cornelius (Hickey)
2 x Daniel (Arthur, Bryant)
3 x David (Leys, Macdonald, Young) + Bonus: Bryant in the show but most historical sources I found list him as Daniel
1 x Edmund (Hoar)
3 x Edward (Couch, Genge, Little)
2 x Edwin (Helpman, Lawrence)
3 x Francis (Crozier, Dunn, Pocock)
1 x Frederick (Hornby) + Bonus: Des Voeux, whom I have seen referred to as Frederick rather than Charles on occasion
6 x George (Cann, Chambers, Hodgson, Kinnaird, Thompson, Williams)
1 x Gillies (MacBean)
1 x Graham (Gore)
7 x Henry/Harry (Collins, Goodsir, Le Vesconte, Lloyd, Peglar, Sait, Wilkes)
10 x James (Brown, Daly, Elliot, Fairholme, Fitzjames, Hart, Reid, Ridgen, Thompson, Walker) + Bonus: Ross, who was not part of the expedition but appears in the show
23 x John (Bailey, Bates, Bridgens, Brown, Cowie, Diggle, Downing, Franklin, Gregory, Hammond, Handford, Hartnell, Irving, Kenley, Lane, Morfin, Murray, Peddie, Strickland, Sullivan, Torrington, Weekes, Wilson)
2 x Joseph (Andrews, Healey)
1 x Josephus (Geater)
1 x Luke (Smith)
1 x Magnus (Manson)
1 x Philip (Reddington)
1 x Reuben (Male)
2 x Richard (Aylmore, Wall)
8 x Robert (Carr, Ferrier, Golding, Hopcraft, Johns, Sargent, Sinclair, Thomas)
3 x Samuel (Brown, Crispe, Honey)
1 x Solomon (Tozer)
16 x Thomas (Armitage, Blanky, Burt, Darlington, Evans, Farr, Hartnell, Honey, Johnson, Jopson, McConvey, Plater, Tadman, Terry, Watson, Work)
22 x William (Aitken, Bell, Braine, Clossan, Fowler, Gibson, Goddard, Heather, Hedges, Jerry, Johnson, Mark, Orren, Pilkington, Read, Rhodes, Shanks, Sims, Sinclair, Smith, Strong, Wentzall)

Alexandre Desplat - Main Theme to Asteroid City (2023)
Last night I went out to the movies with friends and we saw the new Wes Anderson picture, Asteroid City. This is the first time in a long time that I've seen a film in a theater and I do have a lot to say about the movie and the unique way that it shows the kind of crisis and anxiety that artists have in the creative process. But from the first moment I fell in love with the score by the acclaimed film composer Alexandre Desplat. Just as Anderson uses picturesque scenes and stock characters of Atomic-Age Americana to evoke a nostalgia for this idealized past we can only experience as artificial recreations, So Desplat turn to post-war American music to capture not only an atmosphere of the era but also of the American Sublime. There are only a few moments that his score comes through mixed with retro country western tracks. The opening of this “suite” holds us with a high-pitched note held over a melody in the lower register of the piano. This distinct “Americana” sound feels that way because it is reminiscent of Copland’s orchestral writing. But then the oscillating xylophone and bells brings in a pulse that makes me think of American minimalism with the likes of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Little wind arpeggios come in to heavily emphasize Philip Glass' style of “minimalism”, which can be heard throughout his scores. And this nod to Glass ends with a long held organ pedal point in the bass, reminding us of his iconic score for Koyaanisqatsi (1982). Then, unexpectedly, the held note which opened the score is revealed to be the opening to the serene and otherworldly prelude to Wagner’s Lohengrin (or at least a short pastiche). Why reference Wagner here? I'm going to guess that this is related to the Wagnerian sound of heroism, triumph, and the sublime all being paired with the reminiscent love for the cowboys of the Old West. And these long held notes, and evoking the repetitive and potentially endless sounds of looping American minimalism come together to create a musical depiction of the American Sublime of endless Horizons and expansive nature and the quiet beauty that places like the Southwest has. I might be reading a lot into it and I don't want to argue that this is what Alexander Desplat had in mind when he decided to write in an American musical style for matching aesthetics, but I think this adds a nice little cherry of a detail on top of an already complicated and multi-layered film.

Dark Skin Directory
I did one of these for my sideblog BlackFemmeCharacterDependency (BFCD) and... While it’ll take longer on this end to do because there are more prominent figures here than on that one, I thought it would be good to also have one for my main...
EDIT: Okay, so the one that I did for BFCD does not work, so I am posting this one to see if it works, and if not, they’ll both be WIPS until I have the time to repair them
For the purposes of this list and on this page, whenever I say “dark skinned,” I mean a traditional brown crayon or darker. I grew up around Black people, so the words “dark skinned” do not mean the same thing to me as it do to nonblacks.

Beauty & the Bieber (Unexpected Musical) — PattyCake Productions music video
youtube
Continuing their signature style of combining childhood classics with modern music, the PattyCake guys decided to tackle a tale as old as time for their next project. In addition to Justin Bieber's melodies and the musical motifs from the 1991 animated film, they also included elements from the forthcoming 2017 live action remake.
Details:
title: Unexpected Musicals — Beauty and the Bieber
performers: Jamie Fritz (Belle); Earl Elkins, Jr. (Beast); E. Michael Evans (Gaston); Joey D'Angelo-LaJoie (LaFou); Alexander Browne (Lumiere); Brad Pettitt (Prince Adam); Leah Lowman (village girls); Anita Wakim (Enchantress)
original songs / performers: [0:15] "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber; [0:53] "Baby" by Justin Bieber, feat. Ludacris; [1:09] "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber; [1:21] "Never Say Never" by Justin Bieber, feat. Jaden; [2:12] "Boyfriend" by Justin Bieber; [2:36] "Company" by Justin Bieber; [3:30] "Beauty and a Beat" by Justin Bieber, feat. Nicki Minaj; [4:10] "Sorry" by Justin Bieber; [4:22] "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake, feat. Justin Bieber; [4:44] "Cold Water" by Major Lazer, feat. Justin Bieber & MØ
written by: "I'll Show You" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Theron "Neff-U" Feemster, & Joshua Gudwin; "Baby" by Justin Bieber, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, Terius "The-Dream" Nash, Christopher "Ludacris" Bridges, & Christina Milian; "Love Yourself" by Justin Bieber, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, & Ed Sheeran; "Never Say Never" by Adam "Messy" Messinger, Nasri Atweh, Thaddis "Kuk" Harrell, Jaden Smith, Omarr Rambert, & Justin Bieber; "Boyfriend" by Mike Posner, Mason Levy, Matthew "Blackbear" Musto, & Justin Bieber; "Company" by Justin Bieber, Andreas Schuller, James Wong, Leroy Clampitt, Jason "Poo Bear" Boyd, James "JHart" Abrahart, & Thomas Troelsen; "Beauty and a Beat" by Max Martin, Anton "Zedd" Zaslavski, Savan Kotecha, & Nicki Minaj; "Sorry" by Justin Bieber, Michael "BloodPop" Tucker, Sonny "Skrillex" Moore, Justin Tranter, & Julia Michaels; "Let Me Love You" by William "DJ Snake" Grigahcine, Justin Bieber, Andrew "Watt" Wotman, Ali Tamposi, Brian Lee, & Louis Bell; "Cold Water" by Thomas "Diplo" Pentz, Justin Bieber, Karen Marie "MØ" Ørsted, Benjamin "Benny Blanco" Levin, "King Henry" Allen, Philip "Jr Blender" Meckseper, Ed Sheeran, & Jamie Scott
arranged by: Layne Stein & Tony Wakim
release date: 17 March 2017
My favorite bits:
combining the rhythmic strings and the villagers' greetings from "Belle" with the melody for "I'll Show You"
Belle explicitly giving Gaston the brush-off
the tinkling minor motif from the animated movie as Belle enters the castle
Earl's fantastic growl at the end of "Never Say Never"
LaFou's gleeful fawning over Gaston and dancing on the tables
the sneaky ♫ "May-be" ♫ from "Company" overlapping with the tavern scene and leading into the "Be Our Guest" instrumentation
the Beast's lovely vulnerability during the dinner and dancing
using the crunchy horn motif from "Battle on the Tower" to create menace in this version of "Let Me Love You"
Earl's voice being layered over the final lyrics after the transformation

Trivia:
○ The obvious starting point for this project was Jusin Beiber's "Beauty and a Beat", which Tony and Layne had performed as part of VoicePlay's "Wow! Vol. 1" medley during the 2015 Sing-Off tour, but one song does not a full plot make. The guys delved into his extended catalogue to find songs that fit certain story beats and would blend well with the animated movie's score.
○ This was an incredibly ambtious undertaking. According to the PattyCake guys, preparations took five months, and filming spanned "six long days" (and nights, clearly).
○ All that hard work paid off, though, since they were able to time their YouTube release for the same day that the Emma Watson movie hit theaters.
○ VoicePlay recorded a Beauty and the Beast medley for "Once Upon an Ever After" (2012), their first album with Tony as a member of the group. Excerpts from that arrangement later appeared in their music videos "Be Our Guest", "Aca Top 10 – Disney Sidekicks", and "Aca Top 10 – Disney Villains". They also included "Belle" in their "Aca Top 10 – Broadway" countdown.
○ "Love Yourself" was the first song in VoicePlay's PartWork series, which they started as preparation for Tony leaving the group.
○ Layne occasionally used "Baby" as his interruption at the end of VoicePlay's "Road Trip" medley / comedy sketch.
○ On top of their usual studio work, this production required multiple location shoots:
The outdoor village scenes were filmed at the Casa Feliz museum.
Beast's castle interior was the Ballroom at Church Street, which closed in 2019, and was demolished 2023.
The tavern was an actual bar, the Tap Room at Dubsdread.
○ Between the main cast and dozens of background folks, they needed so many costumes that Tony enlisted his mom Anita to help wrangle them all.
○ There are several of Tony's fellow "Beetlejuice Revue" alumni among the main cast:
Michael (Gaston) played Dracula and Frankenstein's monster.
Joey (LaFou) played Wolfman and Dracula.
Brad (Prince Adam) was a dancer in the final "Mashup" iteration of the show.
○ There are also many friends and family among the background cast and crew, including several cast members from previous Unexpected Musicals. Olivia Adkins and Leah Lowman are among the village crowd as Snow White and Cinderella. Rachel Copeland and Matthew Buckner are in the tavern crowd, but not as their previous characters. Many of the other villagers were clubgoers in "Hocus Heathens".
○ This video got a nice write-up on Huffington Post.

Speaking of Violet looking for a partner, does she or her brothers encounter any difficulties on the marriage mart due to their mother's reputation and past? I know love would triumph in the end but these attitudes would persist. I could imagine a prospective partners family asking questions and wanting to know where Sophie came from. Maybe on of the children would have a scandalous marriage themselves, to a catholic or a bastard or a poet! My word!
Bridgerton Babies Love Stories
I wrote something AGES ago, it was that long ago I can’t find it on my blog anymore and I can't work out what I tagged it as so i’m starting again…
So Charlie, I remember what Charlie’s was but I’ve decided to change it up.
Charlie’s story…
Charlie ends up being inspired by his Uncle Philip and goes off to study Botany. He has his mother’s brain and temperament, out of all four children he is the most like his mother but unlike his mother, he has a talent for getting plants to grow and he eventually restores the gardens at My Cottage.
He continued on with this studies when he was 23 met the woman who was going to be his wife… he was not paying any attention to where he was walking and he walked straight into a woman as he had his face in his book as he walked through the bookshop in London with a new book on some plants he was trying to grow, Viorna Group clematis, also known as the Sophie flower.
He’d discovered them whilst reading and saw that the “Sophie” flower was a deciduous, perennial climber with pinnate, dark green leaves and, from spring to early autumn, small, urn- to bell-shaped, purple flowers with yellow anthers and thought it would be a beautiful way to honour his mother.
The woman he walked into scowled at him, “Watch where you are going!!” and Charlie felt his entire world lurch as he stared at the Blonde Woman in front of him as she stormed away from him.
He had no idea of her name or who she was and for the next two months went back to the book shop every day looking for her, desperate to meet her, finally understanding what his father talked about for all those years, how his life finally seemed to start.
Two months and nothing, he couldn’t find her, the bookkeeper and store owner had no idea who she was and he thought perhaps she was just visiting and passing through and he wondered if he would ever see her again.
Until he is at an Art gallery with his father, for his father’s fourth piece being hung and he sees her again, standing with her mother, talking to his father.
He straightens himself over and walks over to meet her and be introduced to which Benedict does happily not realising this is the woman his son had been pining over…
Emily Granville. Henry and Lucy’s only daughter… (who actually isn’t Henry’s… but only Benedict knows the truth. Emily is the product of one of the art parties but like Vivi is a mini Sophie, Emily is a Mini Lucy so no one suspects a thing… save for the blonde hair… which Henry just jokes he was a blonde baby)
Emily looks at Charlie in a little bit of Horror realising she had shouted at her father’s protigee’s son… and apologises and Charlie just smiles at her warmly “all will be forgive if i may take a turn around the room with you” Lucy and Benedict share a small smile as their children walk off and that evening when they dance together at Violet Bridgerton’s ball Benedict knows that his son is well and truly in love…
Alexander’s story…
Alexander inherits his mother’s brain and head for numbers and figures, and his father’s artistic side but it was obvious from a young age that despite his penchant for Trouble, he had a charm about him that Grandma Violet said reminded her of Andrew Rokesby and Benedict’s cousin Roger…
And when he was sitting as a child one Christmas in the corner with 8 packs of cards away from everyone and their Great Aunt Billie was there she spotted him and laughed, the little look of concentration on his face reminded her of Roger and Andrew… when he was done, shouting at anyone who went near it… it became obvious… Alex was meant to be an architect.
And when he learns what that meant… there was nothing else that would do for him and he was determined that he would be one and be a great one at that…
He was 23 and back in London after being in Italy for the summer when he met his future wife…
Lady Isabella Cowley, the only daughter and youngest child of the Earl of Cowley… as the Countess died giving birth to Isabella and as she is 20 and 18 years younger than her two brothers, she was very much a surprise child… was left alone a lot as a child, cared for mostly by the nurse, and the household staff..
Lady Isabella becomes friends with Violet and Charlotte Bridgerton, being the same age as his Cousin and he saw her talking to them when he snuck up on his sister to surprise her during her first season in London.
Lady Isabella was instantly taken with Alexander and his bright charming smile and the Hazel eyes that were full of mischief.
She was quite a bit younger than her older brother’s who were all married off by now and her father was desperate to marry her off… but Lady Isabella… from that moment was determined there was only one man for her… one Alexander Bridgerton…
The Earl however is not happy and tells his daughter that she is not to waste her time with the second son of a second son, regardless of who that second son might be… though at the time was unaware that it was one of the Bridgerton’s.
Until the year Vivi meets Edward… which Benedict is sure is the most stressful season of his life…
Over the last few months, Alexander had formed an unlikely friendship, having met Prince Albert in 1839 when he was in Italy for the first time with his Cousin Roger’s eldest Son and Roger visiting the construction of some buildings… the new Queen’s husband had recognised Alexander straight away and was thrilled to see his friend.
That season becomes rather interesting as the Earl of Cowley is trying to marry Isabella off. To some grumpy old Earl from Scotland
Heartbroken Isabella confides in Vivi and Lottie her feelings for Alex and how she really doesn’t want to marry a man twice her age and so Vivi takes it upon herself to inform her brother that she needs him to save her friend…
Alex who rather liked Isabella is outraged that her father would do that to her agrees to help but at the party when he plans to speak to the Earl, Isabella finds him in a corridor as she’s running away from her father in floods of tears and he hugs her to calm her down and he’s staring into her green eyes as she sniffles and he feels something change and feels himself drawn down and is about to kiss her when the Earl Isabella’s supposed to be engaged to… appears…
And all hell breaks loose…
Ending with Prince Albert storming in, telling the older Earl to unhand his friend, Earl of Cowley raging but upon realising that Alexander is the Nephew of the Duke of Hastings, Lord Bridgerton and the renowned Artist's son… crumbles like a piece of paper… also having the Queen’s husband glaring at him to protect his best friend says he will not demand satisfaction if the Bridgerton marries his daughter…
Earl Cowley doesn’t approve of his son-in-law and Isabella is basically disowned and Sophie rages at the Earl and gives him a very public setting down at the wedding reception once the newlyweds leave on their honeymoon… much to the amusement of Cowley’s two’s sons (who incidentally don’t approve of their father’s actions and spend time with their sister and her husband after their wedding without telling their father)
Earl Cowley learns that his son-in-law has been made one of the chief architects for the Prince and the Queen on their constructions and plans to help society and he decides that he is finally willing to accept his son-in-law but when Isabella writes back to her father to say that she wants nothing to do with him, he can’t change his mind because her husband is making a name for himself… dies without ever making up with his daughter… and she… she couldn’t give two tosses… she’s a Bridgerton and her mother and father in law have accepted her like a second daughter.
William’s Story…
William is the son that looks most like their father, down to his height and startling blue eyes… and very much a mama's boy.
He hated Eton and being away from his mother and being without his sister and cousin Lottie, he feels lost but he finds himself in the piano…
He inherits his Aunt Francesca’s musical talent but he’s the shyest of all the Bridgerton’s. With his brother’s he is fine but when he isn’t… he has the same artistic and life struggles as his father and Sophie can’t help but find it adorable that her youngest son has the same things in life as his father…
Upon finishing Eton, he earned a place at the Royal Academy of Music, following his cousin Miles who was an incredible violinist.
William continued through the school and was well known for his musical abilities but he wasn’t like his brother’s and cousins when it came to women, he was shy around them unless he was with his cousins’ and Edward who was his best friend and went on to marry his sister (much to Will’s chagrin) but he, like his father, just assumed everyone was after him because of his surname…
And hated the way people made him feel and after hearing someone call him number 3. He blanched and it took his mother calming him down to get him back into the ballroom…
But it wasn’t in london when he met his wife…
He was visiting Ed and Vivi and they went into the village and he heard a woman singing…
And he froze…
He just stood there and listened to the voice of an angel wafting through the air and filled his heart with a warmth that he had never really felt before… he felt his entire body tingle and he turned around he saw a woman, a young governess with a gaggle of children sitting around her as she sung and William honestly felt like he was struck by lightning as he looked at the woman.
Red hair that shimmered in the son and the greenest eyes he had ever seen safe for his sister and mother and he was memorised… and he fell in love in an instant.
Vivi, knowing the young woman, introduced her brother to Elizabeth… Elizabeth was the illegitimate daughter of an Irish Earl who sent her to England several years ago when he was ailing and unable to look after her and she became a governess having been well educated (much like his mother had been) not many people know about her past as she kept it to herself but she had become good friends with the Duchess to be… and had confined it to her when she asked why she had come to England…
Violet didn’t share her mother’s past as it wasn’t her place to say…
Elizabeth, though attracted to William, spurns his advances, knowing her position in life and his job didn’t go together… but William is not having any of it…
He continues to try and court her… sending her flowers, music that he’d written since he had met her and Vivi invites her to dinner, when her mother was visiting… thinking it might help…
William plays a song and though it wasn’t said, Elizabeth knew it was dedicated to her and she stared at him and Sophie saw the entire thing and over hears a conversation between her son and Elizabeth in the gardens when William confesses his love to Elizabeth and begs her to marry him… but she refuses, telling him that her type… people like her… don’t get to have happy endings, don’t get to marry people like him…
And Sophie finds her an hour later crying and packing her bag to leave when Elizabeth gets a shock by her and Sophie asks her if they can talk…
And Sophie, for the first time in nearly 30 years… tells her story.
And Elizabeth is shaken. “You will never find a more accepting family that us Bridgerton’s… if you do not return Williams’ affections then please… say… but if you do… and i suspect you may… darling girl… know you will be loved as we love our other two daughters in law… and our children… your past doesn’t define you”
Elizabeth says something about not wanting to disgrace her family… Sophie chuckles having used the same words herself… “Darling, my daughter is soon to be a duchess and my second son is best friends with the Prince… as well as the rest of my in laws… if my past and all of the Bridgerton antics did not embarrass the family… then this will not” and she pressed a motherly kiss to Elizabeth’s head and leave Elizabeth to think…
She finds a heartbroken William a little later on and says that she would marry him if he would still have her… and that she loves him very much.
William and Elizabeth… end up being the prolific providers of 6 Grandchildren for Sophie and Benedict.

Hushed noises. Alexander lifted his head, his gaze shifting from his documents to the door of his office, his ears perking up.
“Lexi, go call the others. It’s time for dinner,” Eliza’s tone was gentle. Alexander missed it. She barely spoke to him anymore, and even if she did, it was with a sharp edge. Alexander didn’t blame her.
Footsteps, most likely Lexi sprinting upstairs. Alexander sighed and stood up, setting his quill aside.
Eliza’s head turned as Alexander exited his office. The look in her eyes was cold, similar to her voice. “You are not having dinner with us.”
“What?” Alexander was taken aback by the words, confusion and surprise settling on his face as he stared at the other.
“I said, you are not staying for dinner. You can go dine somewhere else, but I’d like to spend Christmas with family, people I actually trust,” Eliza hissed, glaring at him. Slowly, Alexander nodded, swallowing as he felt a pang in his chest.
“Of course,” mumbling, he headed towards the front door, grabbing his coat on the way out. He could feel Eliza’s burning gaze fixed on him, but he didn’t turn.
After all, it wouldn’t change anything.
Alexander inhaled sharply as the cold winter air hit his face. At least the snowing had stopped, he remarked as he walked down the street, unsure about where to go.
Laughter echoed in the air, church bells ringing as he passed houses, light and warmth radiating from each window. Alexander sighed. It was at times like these that he wondered whether publishing the Pamphlet had really been a good idea — maybe he should’ve just let others assume what they wanted to, even if it would cost him his career and his reputation.
No. Alexander waved the thoughts off with a shake of his head. What was done was done — no matter how badly he wished, there was no erasing the past.
Alexander lifted his head and halted. His eyes darted around, his lips slightly parted as he studied the familiar building.
Fraunces Tavern.
Alexander stood there, frozen in place as multiple memories came flooding back. That night with Burr, Laf, Herc and John. Alexander still remembered the joy and confidence he had felt upon finding others with similar ideals as his. For the first time after stepping foot on this unfamiliar land he had felt as if he belonged here.
He also remembered the way his heart had ached for John as Washington had congratulated them in the same spot nearly seven years after. The way he had turned to his side, started a sentence before realizing that the other wasn’t there.
That he would never be there again.
His mind lingered on John, his lover’s face flashing in Alexander’s mind. That soft, fluffy hair, those freckles spilled across his body like stars that his eyes couldn’t hold. That calm, gentle voice, those kissable lips—
Alexander blinked, forcing himself to snap out of it. He stared at the Tavern, considering entering. He could just walk in, order some food and a drink, maybe a few more of the latter until the alcohol drowned out all of his thoughts.
However, his steps led him away, his breathing forming a cloud of mist in the air as he resumed his walk. He wasn’t hungry, and deep inside, he knew that this wasn’t a night he’d like to spend drunk.
✮
After half an hour of wandering, Alexander stopped again, shocked. How- why had his legs led him here? It wasn’t like anyone he knew was buried here—
Alexander sucked in a sharp breath which got caught in his throat. His chest felt incredibly tight as he advanced, the snow crunching under his feet. He passed grave after grave until—
“Heartless.”
“How could he be so cruel?”
“He didn’t even bat an eye — god.”
The whispers had circled him for the following week. No one had said it aloud, but they were all referring to one thing: “Alexander Hamilton didn’t shed a single tear at his son’s funeral.”
Alexander ran a hand across the top of the engraved stone. It was cold to the touch. A chuckle left him as he raked his hand through his hair, slumping down against the stone with a a sigh.
Oh, those idiots, he thought, closing his eyes. Don’t they realize I did my best to keep my composure only for them?
He had stood up straight, had greeted everyone, had kept his voice stable. You had to be quite close to him to have realized the way he had swayed, Eliza being the only thing keeping him upright as they had approached Philip’s grave. Alexander hadn’t cried. Everyone else had.
He sighed again, pulling his knees up to his chest. The cold numbed his fingers. Maybe his lack of tears was the reason Eliza didn’t even try to tolerate him anymore.
Alexander opened his eyes, gazing at the dark sky. It had stormed, the day of the funeral. For the first time since the hurricane, he hadn’t felt scared, even when thunder had boomed, reminding him of the British cannons that he used to steal.
A shiver tore through his body. Regret and sorrow carved a hole into his chest, his breathing shallow as he remembered how he had advised Philip to throw away his shot. That had turned out well, hadn’t it?
Alexander closed his eyes again as his mind grew foggy. For a moment, he considered just staying there for the night, fading away with the cold. After all, everyone who loved him had died — why not join the chain?
A gust of wind blew by. Alexander felt snowflakes land on his raised face. It had started snowing again, the slow falling holding the potentials of turning into a snowstorm.
He sighed. Not tonight.
With a groan, Alexander arose, releasing a breath he had been holding. Eliza and the children must’ve finished dinner by now, perhaps even had the time to enjoy some music. Ange’s piano skills had improved quite a lot.
However, Alexander’s train of thoughts paused as he remembered the state Ange had fallen into after her older brother had passed. The two were always close, and she had been affected the most out of the children, spending the days talking to herself in her room. Not unlike him, he remarked as he walked away.
Alexander looked back one last time, his eyes lingering on Philip’s name before he headed out, pulling the door of the graveyard closed behind him.
Wind ruffled his hair as he trudged along the street. A couple passed him, their conversation pausing as they glared at him.
“Honestly, he should just leave the neighbourhood,” he heard one of them mumble. Alexander hummed.
It would be quiet uptown.
