BF5 & bikes

i'm leading a ben folds five bike ride this summer and honestly i can't stop thinking about anything else. all i do is listen to ben folds five and muse fondly on how very special it truly really ALL IS. i've reunited with the piano solo at the end of "philosophy" and it is so good. so fucking good. it is the next level.

like who says pianos can't rock? who the fuck says that? there are really no words how much this band means to me and meant to me when i was a teenager. seriously no words. it either clicks or it doesn't. i can only see the part about it clicking though.

creating the playlist has been surprisingly challenging. i've never programmed a playlist for a bike ride before and i am loving it. the thing with ben folds five is listening to their albums as a whole from top to bottom is kinda the way to do it. the stuff all goes together and a bunch of somewhat related stories (especially the reinhold messner album which is a true concept album) but the dilemma i have is the ride will be over by the time we get to "kate" and that doesn't seem right. this is an opportunity for a peppering of songs to shine from the various 3 albums. i've compromised with chunks. i want to get this right - i want to pay homage to the band and the fans via bikes and biking speakers with as much respect as i can possibly exude.

i wonder who will show up. i am so excited to see who likes bikes and ben folds five in this town. because i'm pretty sure by the end of this ride we're all going to be bff.

Mammoth 50k Pedalpalooza completed! The scenery is stunning. The backcountry areas you get to see that most people don't are incredible. But riding 50k on a mountain bike at over 8 thousand feet of elevation is no joke. #Portland can be beautiful at times. This was one of the stops on the annual "Goth Ride" yesterday. One of the last #pedalpalooza rides of the year. In case you don't know during the month of June there are group bike rides with wacky themes everyday. The Naked bike ride gets the most press, but there are a ton of others. #portlandia #4thofjuly

I’m watching the entirety of Northern Exposure Season 3 and oooof it’s philosophical as hell. They go deep and they go hard on this show. It’s a thoughtful journey every episode.

had culture shock returning from New York. no comparison to sleepy pdx. not sure I wanna hang where it’s all sleepy so much know what I mean? Pedalpalooza needs to come back soon………. besides that though, nyc was the best. I biked! and there was soooooo much good music and soooo many delicious bagels. lovely hangs with lovely people. love spending time with good people in cool places soundtracked by extremely tasty live jazz. wandered streets by myself and it was the best. feel all juiced, recharged. but I should be spending more of my time (lifetime) on MORE TRAVEL. also want to meet more guys from Germany. achievable 2023 goalz.

The folks behind Pedalpalooza used to head to the Goodwill Bins every year and grab as many t-shirts etc as they could and then have a big screen-sprinting party, and sell the shirts as a fundraiser.

And if you volunteered at the screen-printing party you could screen-print something you brought with you. So in 2009 I brought this dress (it’s American Apparel).

It’s still a damn cute dress. And I look damn good in it.
