New York Charging v. Maryland Charm

Here's a running list of my thoughts broken down by quarter:

Pre-game

Child me is screaming crying throwing up etc etc

Who are we kidding, so is adult me

love the uniforms, they remind me of college jerseys but not as restricting

not a big fan of the names tbh

Paul Rabil here being so genuinely excited for this league, sorry for everything i ever said about you when you played for Johns Hopkins

First Quarter

Sixes format is so fun! 5v5 with a goalie, everyone plays midfield. Played this style in winter/summers during high school and it really kicks your ass endurance-wise

Power plays instead of 8 meter shots

Much smaller field

NY FIRST GOAL!!! KYLIE OHMILLER

No draw after a goal, so only 4 per game

Too overcome with emotion to make any other observations

Second Quarter

glad they kept dangerous follow-through as a penalty, as someone who has been hit by shots/after a shot that shit hurts.

The fast pace keeps the score pretty close, godspeed to these goalies.

the shot clock is excellent

oh my god if we get a goalie goal I'll be so happy

excellent defensive play makes me feel some type of way

Lacrosse power couple alert (Alex Aust Holman and her lax bro husband Marcus Holman on the sidelines love the support)

Charging, you gotta do something different against Charm's defense

Third Quarter

okay mic'd up married couple is adorable

Glad they kept the tradition of penalty box timeout folding chair

Seeing the players get more creative as they take shots is delightful

"Go score" is gonna be this league's "pucks to the net" huh

this game truly changes on a dime and it's wonderful

Fourth Quarter

Maryland won all four draws, killing it.

So many NY crimes??

"if you're not cheating you're not trying right?" in reference to coaches challenging/arguing calls, god we need this announcer for other sporting events that's insane

Love the risky moves from the goalies

Somehow missed Emily Hawryschuk hatty!!!!

going to have to look up the rule changes for sure

Maryland getting ref'd in the last minute was not on my bingo card.

Final takeaways

love love love it

somehow healing my inner child

I think this format has the potential to bring in a lot of fans

it's fast paced and simplified which is definitely more accessible

the refs do need to get the calls straightened out, but I think that will come with time

excited to see this format at the olympics!!!

hopefully we will get a full league beyond these championship series.
