was going back through my inbox for anons i'd meant to answer and started watching Papadakis/Cizeron FDs for one of them, and omg in hindsight they're pretty fascinating for what they are and aren't
at their best, that unprecedented sense of continuous flow is so beautiful. her languid willowy limpness contributes to that. they're so fast and curve so much it almost can make you dizzy
there's not much ballroom dance in their DNA, the flow is great for the lyrical style, but early on, when they need to be rhythmic, it can swim instead. her limpness too - so pretty for flow, doesn't give much definition when they need tension. so it's interesting to watch them gradually explore how to incorporate more rhythmic elements into their style - as much as people said they repeated themselves, i think they did stretch, and sometimes it was more successful than others
2014/5 Mozart refined and defined their style. 2015/6 Rain in Your Black Eyes/To Build a Home is like the pure version of their flow and the most successful of their programs this quad. 2016/7 this FD feels like they were stretching but that the new elements hadn't coalesced yet? 2017/8 Moonlight Sonata - they are lovely, maybe not the most exciting of their programs, my favorite thing is the character change with the StaLi on the music change. 2018/19 Rachel Yamagata - flowy, bringing in more rhythmic accents. but repetitive in some ways
Tumblr media
2019/20 the spoken word FD - i know this one's controversial, but i love it. it's an outside the box solution that they're exploring angularity by taking the beat out of the music and making accents just with their movement, then they flow again through the instrumental parts and bring the two together for the last section
and their final FD, the Faure for Beijing - i love a classical program, but this one's a little puzzling - they show the rhythm in the first section with refined but kinda stiff movements which show the beat but not the phrasing, so it doesn't pick up the shape or direction of the music. but when they change character in the next flowing section, it's beautiful
they're another team where he often has flashier choreography than her. i love the end, starting with the RoLi. i always wonder if it's possible in dance to make spins or StaLi's near as fast as single skaters. the larger the circle that's turning, the slower it's going to be - but their spins tend to be very fast for a duo, and they do get speed in that last beautifully timed ChLi
they were overscored, and i know their RDs will show their limitations more. but they're a special team. at their best, they're absolutely stunning. and few teams can say they influenced their sport this much

I think ice dance is at its best when it's campy, dorky, and weird. I really liked Papadaki's & Cizeron's 2019-20 RD because they brought that delicious weirdness back to competition.

2022 Canadian Nationals entry #35
Senior men short program
Wesley Chiu
Thoughts: even with the pitched forward landing, that quad toe was a beauty
Conrad Orzel
Thoughts: poor dear. This program asked way too much of him. I mean I would give him a ten just for those drop-dead gorgeous shoulders.
Keegan Messing
Thoughts: I learned to tolerate P/C. I learned to tolerate the Shibs. I will never learn to tolerate him until he picks better outfit choices.
Nam Nguyen
Thoughts:  that tripe axel fall damn near gave me a heart attack.
Roman Sadovsky(frantic happy screaming)
Thoughts: after a while, we stopped having Ted do the commentating. I was only able to find the videos in French. Good thing too. If had to hear what Ted were to say about dear Roman. We would’ve gone straight for the tire Iron. Rolling pin isn’t gonna cut it.

Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Cizeron Fame rhythm dance pops. All these pops I’m posting are ones I’ve made over the last few years. I have only made orders lately but I’ll be done with those soon so hopefully can make new ones at some point. ☺️

Grand Prix France entry #7
Short Dance
Lopareva/Brissaud(FRA)
Thoughts: I wasn’t a fan of the outfits but this choreography was fast paced and so fun to watch.
Carreira/Ponomarenko(USA)
Thoughts: I love what Christina did with her hair. The exit on the rotational lift could’ve gone a little smoother.
Reed/Ambrulevicius(LTU)
Thoughts: Saulius has pretty eyes. Unfortunately, they did have that fall. Hopefully they can turn things around in the free dance.
Papadakis/Cizeron(FRA)
Thoughts: I liked Gabriella’s nails. And the curve lift was pretty.
Stepanova/Bukin(RUS)
Thoughts: Alexandra looked hot during the ending pose. Ivan’s facial hair prevents me from finding him attractive.
Gilles/Poirier(CAN)
Thoughts: this is utter orange nonsense but at least the rotational lift is fun.
