With no need for rapid acceleration on the freeway, there would be no point for heavy engine blocks with six cylinders, and the overall weight of the vehicle could be reduced accordingly. With flat body panels capable of being produced on a cutting table, there would have been no need for Detroit’s two- or three-story stamping presses. The automobile industry would have been an affair of hundreds of local factories.
Hence it is not true that “[p]ast a certain threshold of energy consumption, the transportation industry dictates the configuration of social space.” Rather, the configuration of social space dictates the forms of transportation adopted, which dictates the level of energy consumption.
Illich’s tendency to see the proliferation of managerial bureaucracies and their unwilling clienteles as an expansionary phenomenon in its own right with no need for a causal explanation, rather than a secondary effect of larger class and power interests, is also illustrated in his treatment of squatters.

[emphasis added] Both the Indian tribe that moves down from the Andes into the suburbs of Lima and the Chicago neighborhood council that unplugs itself from the city housing authority challenge the now-prevalent model of the citizen as homo castrensis, billeted man.
Illich’s framing of this as some inherent expansionary logic or hegemonic drive inherent in the “managerial-professional classes” themselves, and not the outcome of a much larger, long-term process of land privatization and enclosure driven by capitalist class interests, is a major critical failure."

This project is going a grade number one we have great people we have tons of help we do need a lot more everyday they put out ads construction is great it's a it's a way to learn how to fight and defend and all sorts of things without too much effort it is a terrific learning tool you also learn a lot about physics and you learn a lot about how you can make temporary barricades all sorts of things that are needed it's a great industry for it it is one of the best in our sun learned a lot from it I just a lot and how to invent a lot of stuff he has an inventive mind and it just got better and better from exposure to construction we need hospitals airports giant amounts of highway and giant Bridges one of the bridges we designed is 3 mi long that's pretty big our sun designed one that's 20 miles long and we need to build that soon there's a huge number of those things all over Earth is only going to be more highway construction we need to hire now and we need to come up with excuses and he's saying to renovate buildings into temporary shelter and offices and to to start doing City areas and we have to get going on it because he's right these areas are going to drop and we're going to need highway stuff and highway stuff is hard to do it takes time we can come up with a modular system if we can get it in there it's a good idea and put in all the modular units but they probably won't happen so hiring now
