So, today is my birthday (Woohoo! Jumps for joy then remembers I'm getting older and goes to mope in the corner), and instead of the usual way things go, I thought it would be fun to share a gift with you...
A one-shot rec list! 🥳
Here are 15 one-shots, all under 10k words, one for each day in June leading up to my birthday. We've got some scorching Drarry, some juicy rare pairs, and some spectacular femslash. Please enjoy this list, ordered by ship (kinda).
🌼 - fluff | 💔 - angst | 🔥 - smut | 👀 - mind the tags
—
1. Not Nineteen Forever by @sorrybutblog [Draco/Harry, 5.9k, E] 🌼🔥 De-aged Draco and Auror Harry's first time together is sexy, sweet, and the pining is so gloriously good. And when Draco is "offering up my young, nubile body for you to ravish." Lord...
2. Interpersonal Relationships Year 7, Unit 3: How to Have Sex Like a Responsible Adult by InnerLilith [Draco/Harry, 7.4k, E] 🌼 🔥 Listen... enthusiastic consent is hot and never has it been more hot than in this fic where Draco is the sex education teacher at Hogwarts and Harry is trying not to get a boner in his class.
3. A Cold Spot in Hell by FeelsForBreakfast [Draco/Harry, 8.1k, E] 💔 🔥 The summary describes this story as "sexy arson," and I can't help but fervently agree. There's a whole lot of fire, a whole lot of angst, and you'll be wanting more the whole time.
4. My Boyfriend by @acnelli [Harry/Ron, 7.3k, E] 🌼 💔 This story will break your heart and put it back together again. If you weren't a Rarry shipper before reading this, you will be after because it is just that gorgeously written.
5. The Things We Do in the Daylight by chewysugar [Hermione/Harry/Ron, 1.5k, M] 🌼 🌤 A super sweet morning-after story. I just love how loving the Golden Trio are with each other, how awkward yet so right they are together.
6. And If I Had To Choose by flipflop_diva [Hermione/Pansy, 3.7k, M] 🌼 💞 A Pansmione soulmate fic from the very recent @femmefest 2022. This fic is so cute and the interactions between Pansy and Hermione are so in character. It was a delight from start to finish.
7. Shades of Dawn by @corvuscrowned [Lavender/Ginny, 2.6k, E] 💔 🔥 The day I stop rec'ing this fic is the day the world ends because I will NEVER stop sharing this beautiful, amazing, heart-wrenching fic. The conflict and the longing between Lavender and Ginny get me every time I read this. It is absolutely perfect.
8. Elemental by @solar-settings [Katie/Alicia, Katie/Leanne, Katie/Ginny, Katie/Cho, 1.7k, T] 💔 💫 Honestly, this is one of my favorite fics of all time. Katie is so beautifully written, and the way she experiences love at different points in her life is simply stunning.
9. keeping count (losing count) by @oliverwvvd [Marcus/Oliver, 1.2k, T] 🌼 💋 Flintwood has been gradually creeping up into my top ships, and this fic is one of the reasons why. Marcus's anxiety and Oliver's tenderness. Sides of these scared boys that we rarely get to see. So short, yet so memorable.
10. Mourning Myrtle by Contrarian_Hedgehog [Moaning Myrtle, 1.7k, T] 💔 💧 A haunting, dark comedy about Myrtle following her death. The prose is beautiful, and the story is even better. It was instantly one of my favorite gen fics as soon as I read it.
11. Brighten the Dark by @skeptiquewrites [Regulus/Harry, 3.3k, E] 💔 🔥 A young Regulus resurrected from the veil and post-war Harry stuck at Grimmauld Place together? Yes, please. The banter and back and forth between them is glorious. As is the dash of feels and underlying tension of why did Regulus come back but no one else?
12. Take Heed, Dear Heart by @danni-the-puff [Harry/Severus, 3.6k, M] 💔 👀 Genderswapped Snarry! It's dark, it's creepy, and yet, the absolute devotion they have for each other kept me glued to every word. The way every character is written and the story is woven through canon (but not quite canon) is masterful.
13. Height Difference by @thistlecatfics [Sirius/Remus, 437, G] 🌼 😂 This story is pure ridiculousness, and I am in love with it. Remus is tall, like very tall, like very very very tall. We all need a tall Remus in our life XD
14. Lit Match by @phantomato [Alecto/Lily, 1.9k, E] 💔 🔥 The first and only fic I've read with this pairing that instantly converted me. Lily's character is so rich and a little morally ambiguous. Canon compliant, and yes, I could see this as canon because it's so good.
15. turning point by @duplicitywrites [Tom/Voldemort, 8.7k, E] 🔥 👀 A self-cest PWP Tom Riddle fic that is... I don't even have words for how hot and intriguing this fic is. Because we all know that Tom Riddle could only love himself ;)
BONUS FIC (>10k): Miraculous by @liladiurne [Harry/Severus, 15.5k, E] 🌼 🔥 I'm a sucker for escort fics, and this one is fluffy while also being sooo hot. I love this Snape, insecure, cynical, rich. He has the perfect life but still doesn't have what he truly wants — Harry.

A Healthy Glow
“Why the fuck are you glowing?”
Dean looked down at his torso, and sure enough— “Oh!”
“But seriously,” said Seamus, “why is your heart—”
Hermione cleared her throat. “It says here, after casting the spell, when in the presence of one’s soulmate—”
“Seamus!” Dean yelled, sounding panicked. “You’re glowing too!”

Apologies
CW: explicit For the wonderful @crazybutgood. This um turned out more explicit than I intended. I hope you don’t mind ;)
Ron should probably mind more that Viktor caught the Snitch right from under Ron’s nose.
But it’s hard to be upset when Viktor always apologises so sweetly.
“Say it again,” Ron orders, rocking his hips.
Under him, Viktor moans. “I’m s-sorry.”
“Good.” Ron lowers himself, finally letting Viktor slide inside.

Day 14: Dat Ass
Draco/Harry, M, 100 words For Day 14: @hdcandyheartsfest’s love letters + @drarrymicrofic's euphoria Also on AO3.
A haiku, from Draco to Harry:
Dat ass though, it is firmly the most gorgeous ass to ever exist.
Draco shakes his head and crosses out the first draft. Something isn’t right.
Your backside, it is plumper than peaches, sweeter than honey. Lovely.
Hmm… nope. Something is still missing. Draco crumbles the piece of parchment and tosses it carelessly on the ground.
Your arse is perfect; I cannot live without it. Please, sit on my face.
Oh, yes. Perfect. Draco attaches it to his owl’s leg and sends it on its way.
Now all he has to do is wait.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee: The Reformist Politician Who Tried to Transform the Left
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, the last Left Chief Minister of West Bengal, passed away in Kolkata at the age of 80, closing a chapter on his tumultuous and influential political career. Known for his ambitious reforms and the struggle to modernize the state, Bhattacharjee’s legacy is one of both significant achievements and stark failures.
A Promising Start
Bhattacharjee's rise to prominence came in 2000 when he succeeded the legendary Jyoti Basu as Chief Minister of West Bengal. His tenure was marked by an aggressive push towards industrialization, with grand plans that included the Nano car project in Singur and several other development initiatives.
Despite winning overwhelming support in the 2001 and 2006 Assembly elections, Bhattacharjee faced growing challenges. His efforts to attract industry, including major investments in IT and steel, were met with resistance, especially from farmers affected by land acquisitions.
The Turning Point
The land acquisition controversy over the Nano plant in Singur and the SEZ in Nandigram sparked massive protests. The situation escalated, leading to the tragic deaths of 14 protesters in Nandigram in March 2007. This unrest was a significant blow to Bhattacharjee’s government and marked the beginning of the end for the Left Front’s dominance in Bengal.
The failure of these projects and the ensuing political fallout paved the way for Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) to rise in power. In the 2011 Assembly elections, the TMC ended the Left’s 34-year rule, and Bhattacharjee lost his seat in Jadavpur to TMC’s Manish Gupta.
Reflections and Regrets
In a 2013 interview, Bhattacharjee defended his push for industrialization, arguing that it was essential for the future of Bengal’s youth. He expressed regret over the violence during the Nandigram protests, acknowledging the difficult choices faced by the government at the time.
Political and Cultural Contributions
Bhattacharjee’s political journey began in 1966 as a primary member of the CPI(M), where he quickly rose through the ranks. He served as Information and Public Relations Minister, Home Minister, and Deputy Chief Minister before becoming Chief Minister. Despite his political achievements, he remained connected to his cultural roots, engaging with Bengali literary figures and contributing to literature himself.
After his political career waned, Bhattacharjee retreated from the limelight due to health issues. He stepped down from his roles in the CPI(M) Politburo and Central Committee in 2015, and by 2018, he had largely withdrawn from active politics.
Legacy and Final Years
In his later years, Bhattacharjee’s public appearances were rare, and he declined the Padma Bhushan award in 2022, citing a lack of information about it. The CPI(M) even used an AI-generated avatar of Bhattacharjee in a last-ditch effort to rally support during the Lok Sabha elections.
Bhattacharjee’s life and career reflect a complex legacy—one marked by bold reforms and equally notable setbacks. While his efforts to modernize West Bengal were met with significant opposition, his impact on the state’s political landscape and his contributions to its cultural life remain significant.
Conclusion
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s passing marks the end of an era for West Bengal's Left politics. His journey from a reformist leader with ambitious goals to a figure overshadowed by controversy and defeat highlights the challenges of political transformation and the delicate balance between development and social justice.

He played well and soon bagged a permanent place in the group. This ignited his passion for cricket. Dhoni started focussing more on cricket after his 10th grade. He was very passionate about cricket and wanted to prove himself in this sport His father was not very fond of his son’s growing interest in cricket. Kabir Khan Presents Kartik Aaryan In And As "Chandu Champion"!
“You need to pursue what you truly deserve.” Writer, producer, and director Kabir Khan in association with co-producer Sajid Nadiadwala brings the exceptional story of an uncrowned champion to Bollywood’s big screens. An athlete whose efforts went unrecognized until he highlighted them to the Indian government. A Champion May Fall But Never Stops! Featuring Kartik Aaryan As Chandu Champion! https://youtu.be/rfuL-fDdkg0?si=TQIxFdtxfXFYtc83 This biographical drama is titled “Chandu Champion”. It was released on June 14, 2024. This film details the personal life, struggles, and achievements of physically impaired athlete Murlikant Petkar. Petkar was India’s first Paralympics Gold Medalist. Despite winning the Gold Medal for India at the 1972 Summer Paralympics, he was completely forgotten by the Indian government. It was not until he aged and filed a police complaint for his right to the Arjuna Award that his efforts were recognized. He was awarded with an even higher honor, the Padma Shri. The film stars the Bollywood sensation Kartik Aaryan in the titular role of Murlikant Petkar who was also addressed as “Chandu Champion”. Chandu Champion (2024) Official Trailer: https://youtu.be/IHQQK_Wn5DM?si=oKprteAIJ5Fj180q The Good: It's The Era Of Kartik Aaryan! This time Bollywood did justice to Paralympic athletes by coming up with an action and emotion-packed biographical drama on one of India’s National Award-winning Paralympic athletes. Kartik Aaryan selects unique plots that can keep the audience engaged throughout. He happens to be one of the most talked about actors in Hindi cinema. Questions frequently arise about his career. People always doubt how long he can survive in this industry. His 2022 crime-thriller “Freddy” released on Disney + Hotstar paved a new path for his stardom. It surpassed several high-budget theatrical releases. And now, the release of Chandu Champion has worked marvels for this budding superstar. This biographical drama of a Paralympics Gold Medal and Padma Shri winner, Murlikant Petkar a.k.a “Chandu Champion” has showcased what a magnificent actor Kartik Aaryan is. He transformed himself significantly and reduced his body fat percentage to extreme levels to suit the eponymous character. A young schoolboy, a master athlete, an Indian soldier on the battlefield, a Paralympic champion, and an aged man fighting for his rights. You will witness Kartik Aaryan in the various stages of Murlikant Petkar's life. https://youtu.be/lxdHWc871uA?si=JQ4JXychXKnNHDJ It’s not easy to play the character who gets paralyzed on the battlefield and then goes to the Paralympics to win Gold for India. Kartik’s dedicated performance has shown results. You would find him a superb fit in the character of Chandu Champion. And believe me, the climax of Chandu Champion is exhilarating. Kartik's image happens to be that of a fun-loving lover boy. But this time he has unbelievingly transformed himself into the character of a world-class Paralympic athlete. With no romance or comedy, his marvelous acting solely relies on his impactful dialogue delivery, awesome athletic performance in his action sequences, and heart-touching emotions that can probably make you cry! Impeccable Support With Fascinating Visuals Vijay Raaz plays Chandu’s coach, Tiger Ali who brought out the physically-impaired Chandu from his depression and suicidal tendencies and inspired him to compete in the Paralympics. Such moments like the return of Chandu’s old coach, who had earlier refused to train him, are emotion-laden and worth celebrating. This gave a moral boost to Chandu. Also, Rajpal Yadav’s hilarious punches and expressions in a few scenes added life to the screenplay. The best parts about the screenplay are the unbeatable background music and awestrucking visuals in the athletic action sequences which made it ultra-thrilling. Even the strong supporting cast and popular cameo appearances had a considerable impact on the screenplay. https://youtu.be/yOO7-qlDSEw?si=JOiBFtBe7uYaxegw The Bad: When it comes to such a unique emotion-laden story, it’s obvious the audience expects the tracks in the movie to be top-notch. However, even if most of the tracks in Chandu Champion are melodious, unfortunately, they fail to appeal as they lack the musical X-factor. Still, the bouncy motivational track “Tu Hain Champion” can give you goosebumps. Also, the war sequences showcasing Chandu battling for the Indian Army could have been portrayed more intensely. I must tell you that shooting the war sequence was challenging. It was filmed in a single shot at the high-altitude Aru Valley in Jammu, India. https://youtu.be/c3S76y0k8wE?si=QXjNpiJUT9nH3Nc5 The Verdict: An astonishing fact is this happens to be one of those rare Hindi movies that have no lead female cast. You may be wondering, "Will Chandu Champion succeed in the Box Office as it has no lead actress and no romantic angle?" The fact is it sure will! That's because writer and director Kabir Khan embeds his movies with fascinating narratives that keep audiences engaged till the end. If you had seen his 2015 master-blaster action-thrillers “Phantom” starring Saif Ali Khan and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" starring Salman Khan, you too would agree that he is indeed a genius director. Similarly, his latest release Chandu Champion is a complete family entertainer! If you ask me, I would say that besides being inspirational, Chandu Champion also teaches us to pursue our rights. Paralympic Gold Medal winner Murlikant Petkar wasn’t recognized by the Indian government for his achievements until he filed a police complaint against the President of India. Petkar had to highlight his achievements to the government after which he got recognition. In a similar manner, as human beings, we must not forget our rights. If we have achieved something, we must fight for it if our achievements get forgotten over time. Critically acclaimed for his use of aesthetics, musical vision and Period dramas, Bhansali is regarded as one of the best filmmakers of Indian cinema.
Bhansali's directorial debut was the romantic musical Khamoshi: The Musical (1996). He gained both mainstream and critical success with the romantic dramas Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2002), the latter of which was nominated for the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language. He won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for directing the drama Black (2005). His subsequent releases Saawariya (2007) and Guzaarish (2010) were box-office flops. The latter film marked his debut as a music composer. He also began producing under his banner Bhansali Productions.
Bhansali reinforced his status with the tragic romance Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela (2013), and the top-grossing period dramas Bajirao Mastani (2015) and Padmaavat (2018). Sanjay Leela Bhansali with Gangubai Kathiawadi
The art and production design in every Sanjay Leela Bhansali film is a whole mood in itself. Whatever the setting or the story, audiences have come to expect that signature look—dripping with rich detail and the maximal use of Indian textile, artwork, colour and texture.
His latest, Gangubai Kathiawadi is no exception. Visually, it plays out almost like a painting come to life. But it goes a step further, in that this is probably his most personal work yet. But more about that in a bit.[2]
Sanjay Leela Bhansali shared the inspiration behind his portrayal of strong female characters. He said, “We come from a land where we worship the goddess. I have seen some very, very strong women all my life. Women need to be heard, women need to be seen, and their stories need to be told. They are the creators of mankind. We are all born to women-kind.”[3]
