Do you know any Indian horror movies like a slasher film (or just in general) because I've personally never seen an Indian slasher movie? Or Indian musicals because I love musicals or just Indian films in general I would love some recommendations!!!<3
Hey! There aren't that many Indian slashers but two I remember are NH10 and Chup: Revenge of the Artist. For other horror, I recommend Bulbbul, Tumbbad, Aamis and Manichitrathazu (this one has been remade in other Indian languages so you can also check those out)
Indian musicals well. I will be really honest most of our movies technically fall under this category we just have to start dancing everywhere BUT to start off, I'll recommend some movies from the different industries:
Hindi: Om Shanti Om, 3 Idiots (mandatory viewing if you want to get into Indian cinema), Rang De Basanti, Qala, Sholay, Taare Zameen Par, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Fitoor
Telugu: Jersey, Magadheera, Sita Ramam, Shyam Singha Roy, Eega (don't question anything. Please don't) and Mahanati
Malayalam: Uyare, Premam, Bangalore Days, Minnal Murali, Athiran, Jallikkattu and Jana Gana Mana
Tamil: Iruvar, Ponniyin Selvan (both parts), Kaithi and its sequel Vikram, Jai Bhim, Super Deluxe, Gargi, Paava Kadhaigal and Soorarai Pottru
For Marathi I've only watched Sairat and The Disciple but I would recommend both and for Kannada there's always 777 Charlie (it's about a dog. What more could you want)
Like you can probably tell, there is a LOT meaning that there's a lot of other amazing stuff I had to leave out but I think this is a good starting point (our film output is number 1 in the world for a reason). Feel free to ask if you want more recs <3

5 Songs Tag - QL Shows Edition
Thank you for tagging me @disasterbabygirlnick (x) and @morkofday (x)! 🥰
When you get this, list 5 songs from the Asian QL media that you actually listen to.
🎶They do not have to be custom-made for the series. 🎶Non-western tracks only. Let's support Asian music and languages! 🎶Feel free to tag anyone who may be interested in participating. 🎶Add #5qls tag to your post for others to find the new favourites!
Thangamey - Paava Kadhaigal
youtube
I can't stop screaming about Paava Kaidhagal enough, and this episode was so emotional. I love this song so much, and it is a beautiful song but I still feel so much pain listening to this. When this starts playing on shuffle, it always a bittersweet feeling.
2. เพลงที่เพิ่งเขียนจบ (Our Song) - Bad Buddy (Nanon Korapat)
youtube
Of course I was gonna include this. There is no way I was gonna leave this out. It is my baby's song from my fave series. It is special. I still remember not being able to process the song when it came out during episode 11. Like I could not watch the MV after the episode. It was such an emotional attack. I would have also included Just Friend?, but I could not find the rock version the both of them did for OhmNanon1stFM. That version of Just Friend was always be on another level!
3. 不忘 - The Untamed (Wang Yibo)
youtube
The whole CQL soundtrack is beautiful. But this is my favourite song from the OST. Yibo's voice is just so beautiful and it goes straight to your heart. He brings out LWJ's emotions so beautifully.
4. รักษา (Healing) - My School President (Gemini, Fourth, Ford, Satang)
youtube
MSP is a musical, and all the songs are beautiful! But my absolute faves are Healing and Come Closer. I'm adding an alternate version of Come Closer below instead. The way all their voices mash so soulfully here!! And I love the lyrics.
5. จังหวะตกหลุมรัก X อีกนิด (Magic Moment X Come Closer Mash Up) - Beluca Concert (Tay Tawan, New Thitipoom)
youtube
This might be cheating. But I do love Come Closer alot, and I love this mashup version of it so much. So I am linking this. Ford's voice texture is so similar to Tay's. So I love that they did this. I lost my mind when I heard it on the stream.
Honorary Mentions:
คิด(แต่ไม่)ถึง (Same Page?) - Tilly Birds Do I need to explain? This started the whole BB journey and is the anthem of the fandom.
ข้างกัน (City) - Three Man Down I liked the song after Vice Versa, but after MSP, I really fell in love with the song. It just tugs on the heartstrings so nicely.
เพื่อเธอแค่หนึ่งเดียว (Living For You) - Never Let Me Go (Phuwin Tangsakyuen) I screamed when he played this song on the piano in NLMG. I just really love how soft and vulnerable this song sounds. It's just raw with a voice and a piano. I love it.
Tagging: @highwarlockkareena @i-got-the-feels @fuujiikaze @first-kanaphan @telomeke and anyone who wants to do it (Just tag me if you do! I love getting music recs) ! No Pressure :)

The Role of Regional Content in India's Streaming Dominance
Tumblr media
India's rise as the world's biggest streaming market is not solely due to its vast population and growing internet user base. A crucial factor driving this growth is the increasing demand for regional content. As streaming platforms recognize and cater to India's diverse linguistic and cultural landscape, regional content has become a pivotal component of their strategies. This article explores the role of regional content in India's streaming dominance, highlighting its impact on audience engagement, the success stories of regional productions, and the future of regional content in the digital entertainment ecosystem.
1. The Linguistic and Cultural Diversity of India:
India is a mosaic of languages and cultures, with over 1,600 languages spoken across the country. Each state and region has its own distinct cultural identity, which is reflected in its entertainment preferences. While Hindi and English content have traditionally dominated the mainstream media, there is a vast audience that prefers content in their native languages. Recognizing this, streaming platforms have increasingly invested in regional content to tap into these diverse markets.
2. Major Streaming Platforms Investing in Regional Content:
Global and local streaming platforms are expanding their libraries to include a wide range of regional content. For instance, Netflix and Amazon Prime Video have produced and acquired numerous regional films and series. Netflix’s "Paava Kadhaigal" (Tamil) and Amazon Prime’s "C U Soon" (Malayalam) are prime examples of successful regional content that have garnered critical acclaim and substantial viewership.
Local platforms like Hoichoi, which focuses on Bengali content, and Sun NXT, catering to South Indian languages, have also seen significant growth. These platforms offer a plethora of movies, TV shows, and original productions in regional languages, attracting a loyal user base.
3. The Success Stories of Regional Productions:
Several regional productions have not only achieved commercial success but also gained critical acclaim and international recognition. For instance, the Tamil film "Super Deluxe" on Netflix received praise for its storytelling and direction, reaching audiences beyond Tamil Nadu. Similarly, the Telugu film "Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo," available on Sun NXT, became a blockbuster hit, showcasing the potential of regional cinema.
Regional web series are also making waves. Amazon Prime’s "The Family Man," though primarily in Hindi, incorporates significant portions in Tamil and Telugu, resonating with a broader audience. This blend of languages within a single series reflects India's linguistic diversity and the streaming platforms’ efforts to cater to it.
4. The Impact on Audience Engagement and Subscription Growth:
The availability of regional content has led to higher audience engagement and subscription growth for streaming platforms. Viewers are more likely to subscribe to a service that offers content in their native language. For instance, a Tamil-speaking viewer in Chennai is more inclined to subscribe to a platform that provides a robust library of Tamil movies and shows.
This strategy has proven effective for platforms like Disney+ Hotstar, which offers a mix of regional and international content. Their exclusive rights to broadcast the Indian Premier League (IPL) in multiple languages have significantly boosted subscriptions, demonstrating the power of regional content in driving user engagement.
5. The Role of Local Talent and Production Houses:
The rise of regional content has also given a platform to local talent and production houses. Filmmakers, actors, and writers from different regions are now able to showcase their work to a national and international audience. This democratization of content creation has led to a surge in high-quality regional productions, further enriching the streaming libraries.
Production houses like Arka Media Works in Telugu cinema and D2R Films in Tamil cinema are producing content that competes with Bollywood in terms of quality and storytelling. Streaming platforms are partnering with these local production houses to bring regional stories to the forefront.
6. Future Trends in Regional Content:
The future of regional content in India's streaming market looks promising. With the continuous growth of internet penetration and smartphone usage, more users from rural and semi-urban areas are coming online, increasing the demand for content in regional languages. Streaming platforms are likely to further expand their regional content libraries, offering more original productions and exclusive releases.
Emerging technologies like AI and machine learning will also play a role in enhancing the regional content experience. Personalized recommendations based on language preferences and viewing habits will make it easier for users to discover regional content that resonates with them.
Regional content has been a driving force behind India's dominance in the global streaming market. By catering to the diverse linguistic and cultural preferences of Indian audiences, streaming platforms have successfully engaged a vast and varied user base. The success of regional films and series highlights the immense potential of this segment, and the future looks bright as platforms continue to invest in regional content. As the demand for localized content grows, India’s position as the world's biggest streaming market is set to strengthen further.
We would love to hear from you! What are your favorite regional shows or movies? How has regional content influenced your streaming habits? Share your thoughts and recommendations in the comments below.

Highlights of 2020
I am doing my favorite top 10 series of 2020. I got introduced to bl this year so it will mostly be bl(both old and one released in 2020). Thank you for tagging @mfshirtballs
list your top 10 shows (bl or not) you watched in 2020 (doesn’t necessarily have to be shows that came out in 2020 though!)
tag at least 10 people you appreciated this year
tag 10 more people to continue the tag
(This is not in any particular order)
1. Gaya Sa Pelikula(like in the movies)
I absolutely love this series. A big shout out to the writer he/she/they has done a great job. The plotline was simple yet impactful and much need(I know lot of people felt comforted/understood after watching the series). The ost and playlist of the series is perfection and the cast omfg they are so so good. Every single one of them.
Tumblr media
2. I Told Sunset About You
First thing first. This series got one of the best cinematography. Reminds me of Wong kar-wai movies. Talking about kar-wai. Oh-aew give me major Tony Leung character from happy together vibe. The acting is stellar (especially the tension between the two main character). I am so glad we are getting season 2..
P. S: I love the title of the series
Tumblr media
3. It's Okay Not To Be Okay
Series that speaks about mental health is very much needed, especially in Asian drama. Living in a country where mental health is ignored, this series felt comforting.Great casting and well written plotline.
Tumblr media
4.Gifted the series
I watched both the seasons this. The story was interesting but i wish it ended differently tho. Either ways it was a great watch.
Tumblr media
5.Cherry Magic
This series is my happy home. I loved Thursdays just because of episode release. Adachi finding love at 30 strangely comforts me.. It makes me feel like it's okay to take your time.
Tumblr media
6. Theory Of Love
Yes TOL is usual unrequited love for your best friend plotline but what I appreciate the most is that third prioritised himself(not in first half tho) He didn't accept Khai immediately he thought through what Khai has put him through. He took his time and that's the sign of healthy relationship imo.
Tumblr media
7. Gameboys
This was my first Filipino series. I love that they did this in middle of pandemic and spoke about all the things ppl went through. It was relatable.
The kiss in between Sanitized plastic sheet is iconic. Also them meeting in middle of empty street which would have been in crowded if it wasn't for pandemic.
Tumblr media
8. Paava kathaigal
This is a Tamil series (not sure it can be called series it got 4 eps of independent story). This show bravely spoke about all the controversial topic. Hon*r kil*ng, c*st s*system ,tran*phobia and r*pe... It touched my heart. I never thought I would ever see a lesbian character in mainstream tamil cinema. I am so glad we are progressing.
Tumblr media
9. Alice In Borderland
Okay I looked up for this show cuz our dear Kurosawa acted in it and I found my another fave kento yamazaki is lead so I watched. It kept me hooked on right from first episode. I would highly recommend this.
P. S: Kurosawa in blondeeeeeee hair
Tumblr media
10. Where your eyes linger/Mr.Heart/ingredients:the series/Wish you
Time to appreciate all the mini series that made me feel warm. All these series broke my and mend it too.. I'll adore them forever. Hope Korea make more bl and Jeff and gameplay should be recognized more. Thai take note of these two amazing talent.
Tumblr media
Thank you to @mfshirtballs thank you for talking to me about all those great shows
I really really appreciate it. I wish I could appreciate lot more people but I know just you.
If anyone want to do your own version please do it and consider I tagged you.

Paava Kadhaigal
*Trigger Warning- themes of sexual abuse, murder and honour killing*
Hello, so I recently watched Paava Kadhaigal on Netflix, and I high recommend watching this series. It’s one of the best anthologies I have seen across cinema regions all over India and not just because of the prolific board of directors known for pushing the boundaries of Tamil cinema with their unique storytelling.
Tumblr media
Thangam
Direction| Sudha Kongara
Starring| Kalidas Jayaram, Shanthanu Bhagyaraj, Bhavani Sre
Sudha Kongara’s Thangam is a heartbreaking tale of a charismatic transgender woman from a rural community in interior Tamil Nadu. Kalidas Jayaram imbues the raw emotions of a Muslim transgender woman Sathar, in love with a young Hindu man belonging to an upper-caste family.  Thangam, as she affectionately, calls him, is the sole person who treats her as a human being.  In a village, diminishing her worth to that of a thing, she finds solace and comfort with the sensitive and caring man. The rest of the story follows the chain of incidents that conclude in a despairing end. Kalidas portrayed Satthar so sensitively with such raw conviction, it breaks your heart at her fate. Unfortunately, there is a need for our cinema to address the issue of representation, with a cis-gendered heterosexual man playing a queer character. Though regional cinema is taking tiny steps to overcome this issue, it is more than Bollywood has done in a long while.
Tumblr media
Love Panna Uttranum
Direction| Vignesh Shivn
Starring| Anjali, Kalki Koechlin, Padam Kumar
Love Panna Uttranum directed by Vignesh Shivn explored prominent themes of same-sex relationships and honour killing. There is also an interesting subplot of a religious cult. Found on the belief of honour and sacrifice but is not delved into as much as it should have. The narrative follows a political leader, reeling from the aftermath of his beloved daughter's shocking confession; falling in love with a man below their social and caste status, a measly driver. No sooner does he deal with this concern,  his other daughter shocks him, with her ostensibly romantic connection with a white lady, and of course, chaos ensues. Love Panna Uttranum is peppered with Vignesh Shivn’s classic style, scenes doused in black comedy in the grimmest scenarios.  Personally, I did not enjoy this story as much because of the potential it failed to reach. Also, I definitely felt the climax was haphazard and trivialised, the dark nature of the themes.
Tumblr media
Vaanmagal
Direction| Gautham Vasudev Menon
Starring| Simran, Gautham Menon, Adithya Bhaskar
Vaanmagal deals with the aftermath of sexual abuse centred around a tight-knit middle-class suburban family. Gautham Menon fixates on the internal chaos faced by each family member after a horrific tragedy strikes their peaceful lives. Each member is consequentially affected, the progressive father who suddenly feels small and unworthy. The brother forced to quietly seethe in rage at being unable to dole out what he deems to be justice. Right at the centre of this shaken family is the mother, struggling to choose between society’s view of sexual abuse and the fierce need to protect her blood. Vaanmagal is a comforting watch, in the sense that, you feel that there indeed seems to be hope for humanity. Of course, watch it for Simran who is absolutely splendid as the protective, conservative mother unrelenting in her love for her kin.
Tumblr media
Oor Iravu
Direction| Vetrimaaran
Starring| Prakash Raj, Sai Pallavi, Hari Krishnan
Out of the four stories, Oor Iravu would perhaps be the most horrific tale based on honour killing. It’s the one perhaps that leaves us the most distressed and harrowed, due to the agonised suffering the protagonist undergoes. Vetri Maaran displays his strong understanding of the depth of characters in his films. Probing deep within to extract such raw and disturbing performances by Sai Pallavi and Prakash Raj. Their emotions balance on a fine line separating overacting and overemoting. Oor Iravu takes us on a harrowing journey of forgiveness between an estranged father-daughter. It leaves us, with bone-chilling final moments of suffering, as the daughter laments to her father of the future she and her unborn child could have shared. In the end, what we see, is a tale of profound love played out in silences, stuttered with moments of excruciating anguish both daughter and father experience.

8 Shows to Get to Know Me
I was tagged by the lovely @talays-portkey and @i-got-the-feels !
1. Ghost Whisperer (2005-2010) I think this was the first show that i actually tried to watch as it was airing. I still remember waiting for 10pm every Friday, whether everyone else was awake or not. I think I watched all the way from Season 1-4, until it stopped airing on our local channel.
2. Glee (2009-2015)  Honestly this was my introduction to the English music scene. I did not grow up listening to English songs, so my initial playlist was basically Disney Channel artists and Glee covers. As a music lover, I just enjoyed listening to their takes of the songs. I think I stopped watching somewhere during Season 3, and only did the Cory tribute episode after that.
3. Teen Wolf (2011-2017)  This was the first show that I started reading fanfics for. Well I started reading before I watched it, but Sterek stole my heart. I was very into the series, to the point that I watched Season 3B in one night because I had to find out what happened. Dumb me thought it was a good idea to start a new season at 8pm at night. I stayed up through the night, and texted my friend at 6am to yell about the whole thing. And they replied that it is too early to be awake to scream about it. “What do you mean wake up and watch it. I haven’t slept yet” So yeah. Stiles is my baby, and I will protect him with my life.
4. The Untamed (2019)  My friend recommended this to a few of us during covid lockdown, and I am very glad she did. It really opened me up to a whole new world. This show had such a grip on me. To the point that I started a new side blog for it, and learnt how to make edits for it. I got to know so many incredible people through the network cos of this show. It was such a brilliant show! The plot is so intricate! It has angst and heartache and amazing costumes and stunning sets and a cast who honestly killed it. Definitely a show that I would recommend to everyone.
5. Bad Buddy (2021-2022)  Obviously I can’t go without talking about BB here. Have you seen my blog URL? Till BB, I never watched a show as it was airing. I usually wait for it to end and then binge, or start watching it just in time for the finale. But I kept seeing gifs on tumblr and it made me want to check it out. And boy am I glad I did it. It was such a fun experience to watch it live and scream on a weekly basis. For some reason the hold that this show has on me seems to be lifelong? I have no complaints though. I am still enjoying all the BB brainrot. Pran is my baby. I have never related to a character as much as I relate to him. He is so precious to me. And this show just blends angst with humour and a touch of reality so well. I am making it my personal mission to read through every Patpran fic on AO3. This show made me want to try writing. I cannot explain how much this show means to me. A definite must-watch as well!
6. Arivaan (2019-2020)  So my sister told me that this is my kind of show and made me watch it. I started it while she was halfway through, and finished it way before her. It was right up my alley. The whole premise is about trying to identify a serial killer who has been murdering women, and leaves an origami paper crane behind. There is a police officer who manages to find these clues and tries to identify him, but the killer disappears and due to personal issues he end up leaving the force. Years later the killer is back and he somehow gets roped into it again, but his partner is now leading the case, and is finding out things that he doesn’t really want to. And I really enjoyed the way it was taken, and the I am really hoping that there will be a Season 2 for this.
7. Paava Kadhaigal (2020)  Honestly no show has made me as mad as this has, and that is totally the point. (Although I am totally gonna be ignoring the second episode. That does not exist to me) It is an anthrological series, with 4 3 episodes touching on different hard topics/issues prevalent in society. The way it was taken , the music, THE CAST, EVERYTHING WAS BRILLIANT!! I had to pause it and just scream on twitter to release all the frustration that this brought up. Which means it really did its job well. I have not watched this series  since the first time, but trust me when I say I remember every detail because it has such a lasting impact. Especially the first and the last. I was bawling.  NOTE: This can be very highly triggering, so please do check out the synopsis before you watch it. Or feel free to hit me up with any questions, or just scream about it if you do check it out.
8. 3 Will Be Free (2019)  Insane plot with amazing characters with so much depth. Loved that each character was so complex. There is no character that is purely good or bad, like it was so real, and you feel for them all equally. This really set a standard that no other show has reached so far. I need another series like this. And of course anyone who put Tay Tawan in funky suits gets a plus from me. Also more female characters need to have guns!!
Honorary Mentions: Mindhunter: This would have been number 8, if it wasnt cancelled!! The casting directors for this deserve all the bonuses for how creepily identical the actors look to the actual serial killers! It was so interesting to try and get into the head of the serial killers and understand why they did what they did. LOVED IT!!! Until We Meet Again: This used to be my favourite BL series until Bad Buddy took over. I loved Fluke’s effortless acting. He is brilliant. And I love the whole concept of reincarnation and finding you soulmate. And this did it so well with the angst and touch of humour and romance. And of course TeamWin stole my heart.
Theory Of Love: Honestly, wasn’t that much of a fan the first time I watched it. But the redemption arc is so goood, that I felt so much for Khai the second time I watched it. That train station scene just lives in my head. So for rewatch factor, this deserves a honorary mention.
