to the anon who sent me the message that took them 4 hours to draft.
I think your experience both with organizing and disability has probably provoked you to rethink the entire concept of "success" as our culture has defined it, even if you feel yourself still longing for some of the comfort and ease that capitalistic success can seemingly provide (or that we are conditioned to believe it can provide). im not sure what to say that can match the effort your put into your message, in fact i am galled by the fact that i know that i can't match that effort. i don't know how to make sense of the fact that a person who is finding it incredibly difficult to remain connected and engaged during this time, due to disability, has decided that i was worth that level of effort when they don't have the energy to message people they know. i don't think i am worth that effort. but i also respect that mired in all that you're mired in, it's a meaningful gesture toward engagement and connection to even bother writing such a message. i just think in a lot of ways i am a misplaced target for it, because i am a ridiculously privileged and publicly exposed individual who receives dozens of heartfelt messages that he doesnt find the time to respond to every single day. i think if anything that i've written rubs you the wrong way you'd be right to approach it with cynicism. because what the fuck do i know, banging around on my laptop every day and getting paid for it. how dare i lecture anybody about not unlearning capitalism adequately enough. i am one of capitalisms little milking cows. a massive publishing company makes a weekly profit off of me, off the byproduct of the worst years of my life and my worst traumas, as well as the meaning i've made from the scholarship of others.
i'm so enraged for you that you got a debilitating case of COVID (after several other cases) on an encampment, and that now the community you foster at that encampment is not there for you. i am disgusted at how more seasoned activists and organizations have regarded student protestors as disposable this entire year, selling them out to the cops, cutting bad deals with campus administration, and sending them to yellow and red risk level actions without adequate communication and getting them kettled and beat, or else nullifying their efforts with mealy-mouthed talk about keeping things peaceful. i see so many toothless, neoliberal protests happening here, ones that serve only as fundraisers for massive nonprofit orgs, and i also see literal teenagers being dragged right into paddy wagons by the likes of the PSL or the RCP while the Dems deride them and dance to Brat tracks, not even pretending to care the way they unconvincingly did in say 2020.
It's all making me terribly cynical, wondering where we are headed and whether i can or should encourage people who are younger, stronger, more energetic, more pliable, and more vulnerable to me to give up all that they've got for a cause when it's likely gonna be chewed up and spit out and not met in effort by anyone else. i am mournful of the fact that even i can't match that effort. every time i get a message from a friend or acquaintance who is going through some new awful traumatizing event i want to just curl up and disappear, because i can't even keep up with sending compassionate messages to all of them, let alone actually showing the fuck up and doing anything for them. and so sometimes i slip into the disaffected, blunted feeling that once led me as a younger man into libertarianism, thinking that all i can or should do is look after my own wellbeing, and fuck everybody else. and obviously that is a horrible path that is not by any means moral and certainly didn't help me anyway. it felt like we were on the brink of a great paradigm shift of some kind, a collapse of these evil systems, and now it feels like all of that is as far away as it's ever been, and that there aren't enough people with class consciousness and care for one another to make it happen.
i don't know. i think we all have to abandon our dreams of success, of comfort, of saving the world, the fantasies of everything being fine. i think we need to look to our immediate surroundings and our communities. i think we need to ask for help a whole hell of a lot more than any of us are doing, and to recognize that that is a form of helping. i think we need to get small. and remember we are weak animals. and stop thinking there is anything special or chosen about us. and to remember that nature can often be very cruel and that there is nothing we are owed. disabled people already know this of course, we know life isn't fair. we try to do what we can and yet we wake up feeling even less capable the next day, and it knows no logic and the universe remains indifferent to it. but there are people around us who can care, when we ask them to. and ways that we can just be there alongside one another in the muck of it all. not even necessarily making things better. certainly not being a savior and making the pain go away. maybe just sitting in the muck together.
all of which is to say, i am feeling stuck and overwhelmed and useless myself, anon, and i dont have any more answers than you. but thanks for messaging. im sorry people have taking advantage of you. including in my opinion lots of other activists. looking after yourself and not letting people guilt you doesn't mean turning into a conservative. the kind of anarchy that i am embracing right now is one that goes beyond linear change, beyond making meaning, beyond any idealistic visions of the future, beyond even fighting for some kind of symbolic survival. it's just being. none of it has to mean anything, none of it has to be headed anywhere. it just is. there is plenty for you to be bitter about.

Fall is in the air MB. Please rate the ACOTAR boys on how likely they are to be a PSL dude
I was just thinking how much I missed when people were asking me to do my rankings. If you're new here, remember that my opinion is the only objective one in the fandom and I accept 0 criticism if you disagree. Ranking Least likely to most likely.
9. Tamlin- Do you know how many calories/additives are in a PSL? He's a tea man, besides.
8. Kallias- Look, he's a chestnut praline guy. Halloween, fall weather, even PSL is just an annoying prelude to the REAL holiday- Non-denominational solstice. He's not interested in it- it's not bad, it's just...not good.
7. Tarquin- Life is natures caffeine, okay? He doesn't begrudge anyone for enjoying it, but if he wants that sweet rush of dopamine (OR WHATEVER ITS DOING TO OUR BRAINS IM NOT A SCIENTIST), he'll go outside for a hike. Do you, but no thanks.
6. Rhys- I think Rhys WANTS to be a PSL dude. He's got the scarf (give it back to Taylor Rhys!!!), he's got the fall foliage in the background. He's even got the PSL in hand. It's just...it tastes SO BAD he doesn't understand why people like it. 1/10 for trying
5. Jurian- It's FINE, okay? It's nothing special, just a drink and honestly people should get a grip.
4. Cassian- Thought it was going to be life changing. Like Rhys, loves to do a thirst trap for the 'gram when its PSL season. He prefers the frap if we're being honest (don't tell Nesta because she might want to put sugar in her oatmeal if she knew)
3. Lucien- Pumpkin everything, obviously. He's not publicizing it for likes, but everyone knows he's first in line the day PSL is back, double fisting them to make up for lost time. Blood to caffeine content is just pumpkin, he's vibrating at the speed of sound
2. Azriel- Tries to make his own at home but it's not the same. Dumps his PSL in an at-home travel cup, if you ask him what he's drinking, he'll lie and say "coffee, black." Also thinks Rhys should give Taylor back her scarf (c'mon, it's just the right thing to do, man).
Eris Vanserra, king of the pumpkin spice latte. Oh you don't like it? Sorry you have bad taste, couldn't be him. Doing an internet countdown, live vlogs himself taking that first sip, dog sitting at his feet in a matching vest. Why is he on a hike with a PSL? Don't ask questions, alright? Minor internet feud with Kallias over which seasonal drink is the best, vicious followers cause Kallias to concede.
#again if you disagree with my rankings: youre wrong#you have to think with your brain and not your [redacted]#atw 10 minute version (rhys version)

Pakistan Beats New Zealand By 88 Runs In First T20.
A full-strength Pakistani team easily defeated New Zealand in the opening game of this series, winning by an 88-run margin. This did little to remove the notion that these two teams are not on equal footing. Pakistan was set up for an impressive total on a pitch that gave much to the fast bowlers thanks to a 79-run standoff of 43 balls between Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub, who each struck a brisk 47. The 182 Pakistan was knocked out for was still far over average, especially when compared to a bowling lineup of their caliber. And it only took them 15.3 overs to dismiss New Zealand for 94 runs. It was perhaps fitting that the PSL 2023 champion Lahore Qalandars' golden trio all featured in the first T20I in Lahore and each made their presence known in a major way. Zaman Khan, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Shah Afridi each claimed one of the first three wickets, and Daryl Mitchell's short stint has been put an end by Faheem Ashraf. In the eleventh over, it reduced New Zealand to 56 for 4, giving them an asking rate of more than 13. It was an inappropriate matchup given Pakistan's unbeatable bowling class and New Zealand's expertise in batting in the bottom order. With the final five wickets going for just six runs, the finish came quite swiftly.
Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman enlighten Lahore.
Ayub and Fakhar starting the batting in a T20 would be a great addition to many lineups, but with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan returning, they each fell a place. Even for a pair of that caliber, Adam Milne's speed presented several challenges, and inside the first five overs, the New Zealander had removed both the captain and wicketkeeper of Pakistan. Even though the powerplay was almost over, Fakhar and Ayub continued to act aggressively. The tone was established with Ayub's two fours in the sixth over. The ninth over, which had three fours and dismantled Jimmy Neesham, saw a change in momentum, but it was the next two overs that saw New Zealand completely lose control. Sodhi had only given up two runs in his first over, but in his second over, Fakhar and Ayub each hit a six, and then Milne, who had been the greatest bowler up to that moment, took the same beating. Between overs nine and eleven, the partnership scored 46 runs, and Pakistan was making good progress.
Henry scores three times as New Zealand responds
If there is any solace New Zealand can take from this match, it is the potential weakness in Pakistan's lower middle order. With the majority of the top-order batsmen naturally, New Zealand started to nibble away menacingly. While Sodhi removed Fakhar at the other end, Matt Henry came back to dismiss Shadab Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed off consecutive deliveries, giving him a hat-trick. After four wickets went for 22 runs, the visitors saw an opening to dismiss Pakistan. It was wasted, but Pakistan was rescued by a cameo from Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf, and two boundaries from Rauf enabled Pakistan to pass 180. However, Matt Henry made a comeback for the last over and struck with his first ball due to an outstanding boundary catch, providing comfort for New Zealand. He was able to bowl Pakistan out in the stipulated 20 overs, giving him a hat-trick.
With its speed, Pakistan injured New Zealand.
For any lineup on any surface, Zaman, Afridi, and Rauf are fearsome attacks, and they proved to be too much for New Zealand to manage. They were never able to maintain the run pace or even hold onto enough wickets to hold out any thoughts of extending the game while chasing down 183. With Chad Bowes squared up after only three deliveries from Zaman, Afridi then finished off Will Young with a brilliant inswinger, the batter's sloppy stroke being no match for the ball. A couple of counterattacking innings from Neesham and Mark Chapman helped restore some scoreboard respectability, giving Pakistan enough breathing room to stop worrying. The way the game sped up towards its climax gave off the strong sense that Pakistan might end the match nearly whenever they wanted. Neesham holed out to Rauf, and New Zealand fell to the ground. Before Rauf returned to knock back Ben Lister's stumps, Imad had already removed Milne and Henry, giving him 4 for 18, which is a career-high for T20Is.
Conclusion
The first T20I between Pakistan and New Zealand was won convincingly by Pakistan with an 88-run margin. Pakistan's opening batsmen, Fakhar Zaman, and Saim Ayub set up an impressive total of 182 on a pitch that gave much to the fast bowlers. New Zealand's bowling lineup, including Adam Milne, presented challenges to the opening pair, but they continued to act aggressively and scored 46 runs between overs nine and eleven. New Zealand's batting lineup struggled against Pakistan's unbeatable bowling class, and they were unable to maintain the run pace or hold onto enough wickets to extend the game while chasing down 183. With Chad Bowes and Will Young, both dismissed early, the visitors were reduced to 56 for 4 in the eleventh over. While a couple of counterattacking innings from Jimmy Neesham and Mark Chapman helped restore some scoreboard respectability, Pakistan's bowlers proved too much for New Zealand to handle. Matt Henry's hat trick provided some comfort for New Zealand, but Pakistan's lower middle order was rescued by a cameo from Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf, and two boundaries from Haris Rauf enabled Pakistan to pass 180. Despite New Zealand's potential weakness in Pakistan's lower middle order, they were unable to capitalize on it, and Pakistan's fearsome attack of Zaman, Afridi, and Rauf proved too much for them to manage. Overall, Pakistan's performance was impressive, particularly their opening batsmen and bowling attack. New Zealand will need to regroup and come up with a better strategy if they hope to compete in the remainder of the series. After a comprehensive win in the first T20I, Pakistan will be looking to continue their winning momentum against New Zealand in the second T20I match scheduled for tomorrow. Their opening pair of Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub will once again be the key for Pakistan to set a good total, while their bowling attack, led by Shaheen Afridi, Hasan Ali and Haris Rauf, will aim to restrict New Zealand's batting lineup. On the other hand, New Zealand will be eager to bounce back and level the series. They would be hoping for their top order batsmen, including Devon Conway and Glenn Phillips, to fire and provide a solid platform for the middle order to build upon. Their bowling department would be led by the likes of Adam Milne and Ish Sodhi, who have the potential to take wickets in the middle overs. Overall, the second T20I promises to be an exciting encounter between two quality teams. It will be interesting to see how both sides adjust their strategies and tactics based on the conditions and performance from the first match. Read the full article

Tabitha Chawinga Le Progrès Interview (September 8, 2024)
Chawinga, a player who has already played at the pro level and has actual ambition. See @Kang @Montemurro this is what Lyon needs, not a bunch of fucking academy kids who get playing time because they "showed something interesting in practice."
If y'all think I am not going to bitch about the lack of recruits and/or playing time the academy kids are getting for the entire season BOY do you not know this blog.
Blah blah standard disclaimers apply; @OL Comms Dept a PSL for my pain and suffering I beg of you; I survived the Great War the massive LA heatwave, only academy kids can break me now; @god if some of you are that incapable of pretending to have moral decency then maybe just read a book instead of publicly displaying your true colors; y'all know the speech by now.
TW: mentions of child abuse (the real kind, not me bitching about academy kids)
TABITHA CHAWINGA LE PROGRES INTERVIEW
TABITHA CHAWINGA: "I WANT TO WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WITH LYON"
Last season's revelation and sought after by several European teams, Tabitha Chawinga chose Lyon where she arrived with as much ambition as humility. Always smiling, "Tabi" has already won everyone over.
Tignes, last August 27th. After an hour and a half of practice on the highest pitch in Europe, Tabitha Chawinga had two engagements with press outlets, one of which was with Le Progrès. It was not this young woman's favorite activity, who is rather shy and introverted.
The night before, she had already been subjected to another form of exercise for new recruits: singing in front of the team. She chose a song from Malawi, where she was born 28 years ago. One more step in her integration into this Lyon team, with whom she feels really good: "I was really welcomed and I get the impression of being in a family," she confirms.
A lot of teams wanted this player who broke out in France, and in Europe, last season: top scorer, most assists, and best D1 player with PSG, and named in the UWCL's team of the tournament. This competition is her main objective: "I want to play in a really big European team and obviously it's a dream to join the club who has won the most UWCLs. I was won over by Lyon's project [well that makes one of us...], the vision of women's football, the means put in place and the possibility of winning titles," she confirmed.
"The most important thing is the team"
She knows there are expectations, but almost tiptoed upon arrival into the club and especially in a line, the attack, which is completely stacked: "the competition is stimulating and pushes everyone to give their best. Beyond that, I'm not focused on being the top scorer or providing the most assists. I'm not here for my personal stats. The goals will come if I perform well but it's not the most important thing. I'm focused on the team. The most important thing is the team. We put in the work together and we will win together."
After a quiet match against CFF Madrid, she got her bearings on Saturday against Juventus, opening her scoring tally with her magical left foot after a deep pass, then by sending a wonderful cross towards Daniëlle Van de Donk to go up 4-0.
"She's a hard worker. She learns from each practice and she is so explosive and powerful on the field. Tabitha needs space to be Tabitha," explains her coach Joe Montemurro, who is delighted at how the player has integrated into the team: "she is easy to live with, funny. Everyone loves her smile. And she smiles all the time!"
At 28, does she feel like she is at the peak of her career? "It's what they say. And if you're at a good club, things can only go well," she confirms with an enormous amount of humility. "I still have a lot of room for improvement, be it in how I attack and defend, and in finishing."
She changed mentalities in Malawi
Other than her exceptional physical qualities, she also draws her strength and her desire to overcome each challenge from a single story, brought up in the media last season: her parents beat her because they didn't want her to play football, which is more of a boys' sport, instead of going to school. The little girl stood firm and was exiled overseas to pursue her dream as well as to help her very poor family.
She is nonetheless famous in her country: "In Malawi, people and the media talk a lot about what I was able to do in my career. I think I became a role model and my story helped changed mentalities. For a long time, lots of parents didn't allow their little girls to play football. There are still some problems, but things have really changed."
Vincent Ponsot : « Le projet lui a plu »
Each season, Lyon's objective is to maintain continuity while recruiting one or two top players, as explained by Olympique Lyonnais Féminin Director General Vincent Ponsot: "It's pretty natural to poach last season's top player. And she had certain characteristics for playing on the left which really interested us."
Even though PSG wanted to keep her and two English clubs were also pursuing her, Lyon closed the deal: "She wanted to win titles and the UWCL and felt that her best chances to do that was at Lyon. We weren't offering as much as the English clubs but it's important to note that players want to come here and the financial aspect isn't the determining factor," Vincent Ponsot confirmed.
Before adding: "Michele Kang played a quintessential role in the discussions. Her vision of women's football, the possibility given to a young girl to fulfill her dreams in the same way given to a young boy, I am sure those were things which spoke to Tabitha."

"Pakistan Smoking League": Video Of Imad Wasim During PSL Final Triggers Severe Backlash
Islamabad United all-rounder Imad Wasim put in a match-winning show in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024 final on Sunday, taking a 5-wicket haul to restrict Multan Sultans to 159/9. Wasim picked up some important wickets of Yasir Khan, David Willey, etc. to register one of his finest performances in the T20 league. But, not long after his magical spell on the field, Wasim triggered a big controversy after he was caught smoking in the team's dressing room while the match was going on.
The shutterbugs zoomed in on Imad, showing him smoking a cigarette in the Multan Sultans dressing room, and the video went viral on social media, with the player receiving plenty of backlash.
Wasim's fabulous figures of 5/23 in 4 overs laid the foundation for Islamabad United's triumph in the final. After restricting Multan Sultans to 159, Wasim's side did struggle a bit in reaching the target. It was on the final ball of the match that the winning runs were eventually scored.
"Didn't know that it would go on to be the best ever tournament. Just wanted to have an impact in the team's win. It was a new experience - taking five wickets in the final. Took lesson that we should've finished it one over earlier. I'm happy playing cricket. Trying my utmost to contribute for the team. 4-5 years of cricket left in me," Imad Wasim said after the final as he was named the player of the match.
Islamabad captain Shadab Khan highlighted the technicalities of the game in the post-match presentation ceremony.
"Felt that the more time I had, could utilise it better with bat. At number 6-7, I don't have the power game. Have tried to fix my technical issues as a bowler. That's a long process, and the improvements will come. Watching the match is tough for me. In the middle I don't feel pressure, but watching it from outside is tough. I make life difficult for people next to me as well, so I don't sit with batters who are supposed to walk in next. Special mention to the owners who have backed me. I was captain for five years and we didn't reach final, but they backed me. Lot of things I feel that make this trophy very important for us," he said.
