R.I.P. Philip Pearlstein
We were saddened yesterday to learn of the passing of neo-realist painter Philip Pearlstein (b.1924). The little bookmark above is a memento from a time when I was honored to know him, a dozen and more years ago. Do the math — his 85th birthday was way back then! He almost made it to the century mark! At the time when I knew him, he wasn’t just still “sharp”, as they often say of older people, he…

2825. I Think About Passion
This is called "I Think About Passion." Who wants to go dreaming?
Tumblr media
I have spent the last year watching and rewatching the entire Friday the 13th film series. And I have concluded at least one thing. There should be a Friday the 13th movie set during Christmas time. Or if not Christmas time, then at least, in the snow, in winter. Camp Crystal Lake is ostensibly based in New Jersey. Not far from where I live in real life. I could stop writing this and get in my car and drive there right now and get there in over an hour. And it would be cold and rainy. Which we've seen before in the films. Jason Voorhees is often walking around in the rain. But what if it were cold enough to snow today? And what if there were a blizzard? And what if a group of young coeds shacked up at a cabin on Camp Crystal Lake? The snow would make it hard. Harder. You could do a lot with it. It would be suspenseful. I think. Different than the usual Friday the 13th, but good. It depends on how it's made. Like anything in life. It really depends on the amount of time and energy you put into it. How much passion you have for the thing that takes up all your time. And sometimes we're not always attuned to what best deserves our passion.
