ERIC DUNN
Hooray for Viking
Eric Dunn and his wife Wendy have owned three Vikings – all named Hooray, also the moniker of their world-class hunting ranch in Kingman, Kansas – and are currently building their fourth boat. Their Viking ownership experience began with a 55 Convertible followed by hull No. 1 of the 80 Convertible, which took first place in the 2017 Bisbee Los Cabos Offshore Tournament. Their current Viking, a 68 Convertible, will fish in a handful of tournaments this summer in a variety of locations, including the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club Memorial Day Tournament out of Orange Beach, Alabama, and the August 5-9 White Marlin Open out of Ocean City, Maryland. But it’s not all about fishing for Eric, Wendy and their teen-age son, Tucker. They also enjoy vacations on their Vikings and have already experienced a lifetime of memories on the water with family and friends. Their latest adventure? Participating for the first time in the 2019 Viking Key West Challenge. That’s where Valhalla caught up with Eric. In a conversation in the salon of his four-stateroom yacht, Eric talks about the importance of customer service, the performance of the “cuttingedge” Viking convertibles, the power of the people of Viking and his close connection with his dealer, Galati Yacht Sales. You’ll also hear from Wendy and Tucker, too, as they share a few of their unforgettable Viking experiences.

Costa Rica Fishing Charters: Trips and Rates for an Unforgettable Adventure.
Costa Rica is a world-renowned destination for fishing enthusiasts. With its expansive coastlines on both the Pacific and Caribbean sides, the country offers some of the best fishing opportunities in the world. Whether you're a seasoned angler or a first-time fisherman, Costa Rica fishing charters provide exciting adventures tailored to all skill levels. This article will explore the different types of fishing trips, the species you can catch, and typical rates for Costa Rica fishing charters.
Types of Fishing Trips
Costa Rica's fishing charters offer a variety of trips to suit your preferences, schedule, and budget. These trips generally fall into the following categories:
1. Inshore Fishing
Inshore fishing in Costa Rica usually occurs within 30 miles of the coast, in waters that are less than 30 meters deep. This type of fishing is ideal for families, beginners, or those looking for a shorter fishing trip. You can expect to catch species like:
Roosterfish
Snapper
Jack Crevalle
Spanish Mackerel
Grouper
Inshore trips typically last 4-8 hours, and they provide the perfect opportunity to enjoy a half-day of excitement on the water.
2. Offshore Fishing
For those seeking a bigger challenge, offshore fishing trips take you out into deeper waters, often 15-50 miles offshore. These trips are perfect for more experienced anglers looking to reel in large, powerful fish. Common catches include:
Sailfish
Marlin (Blue, Black, and Striped)
Yellowfin Tuna
Dorado (Mahi-Mahi)
Wahoo
Offshore trips usually last between 8-12 hours, allowing enough time to venture far into the open ocean and experience some of Costa Rica's best big-game fishing.
3. Sportfishing
Costa Rica is a hotspot for sportfishing, and many charters specialize in catch-and-release fishing for billfish species such as marlin and sailfish. Sportfishing trips often focus on the thrill of the catch rather than harvesting fish for food. These trips are particularly popular among anglers who enjoy the challenge of targeting trophy species while respecting the marine ecosystem.
4. Customized Fishing Charters
Many fishing charters in Costa Rica offer customized trips to cater to your specific needs. Whether you're interested in deep-sea fishing, fly fishing, or a mix of inshore and offshore fishing, these trips can be tailored to provide you with the best experience based on your preferences.
Fishing Seasons and Species
The beauty of fishing in Costa Rica is that there is something to catch year-round, but the best times for certain species vary by season and region.
Sailfish: Peak season is December to April, with abundant catches in the Pacific.
Marlin: Blue marlin is most common from November to March, while black and striped marlin can be caught during the rainy season from May to October.
Roosterfish: These are available year-round but are most commonly caught from July to September.
Yellowfin Tuna: Can be caught almost year-round, but the best times are August through October.
Dorado (Mahi-Mahi): Most plentiful from October to December, especially near floating debris offshore.
Costa Rica Fishing Charter Rates
Fishing charter rates in Costa Rica can vary depending on the location, length of the trip, the size of the boat, and the amenities provided. Here's a general breakdown of the rates you can expect:
Inshore Fishing:
Half-day (4-5 hours): $800 - $1500
Full-day (8 hours): $1500 - $2,000
Offshore Fishing:
Full-day (8-10 hours): $2,000 - $2,600
Extended full-day (10-12 hours): $2,500 - $3,500
Sportfishing:
Full-day trips for marlin or sailfish: $2,500 - $3,500
Customized Charters:
Prices vary greatly based on the type of fishing and customization options. Rates can start at $1000 for a half-day inshore trip and go up to $5,500 or more for a full-day offshore trip with luxury accommodations.
What's Included in the Rates?
Most Costa Rica fishing charters include a variety of services to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. These typically include:
Fishing equipment (rods, reels, tackle, bait)
Captain and crew
Fishing licenses
Snacks and drinks (water, sodas, and sometimes beer)
Lunch for full-day trips
Transport to and from your accommodation (in some cases)
It’s important to check with your chosen charter beforehand to understand exactly what's included in the price and if there are any additional fees.
Tips for Choosing the Right Fishing Charter
Research the captain and crew: A skilled, knowledgeable captain can make all the difference in your fishing experience.
Check online reviews: Websites like TripAdvisor and fishing forums can provide valuable insights into the quality of a charter.
Book in advance: Popular charters can fill up quickly, especially during peak fishing seasons.
Ask about catch-and-release policies: If you’re interested in preserving Costa Rica’s marine life, many charters offer catch-and-release options, particularly for species like marlin and sailfish.
Conclusion
Costa Rica offers an incredible range of fishing experiences, from inshore trips to deep-sea adventures. Whether you're targeting a prized marlin or just enjoying a day on the water with family, Costa Rica fishing charters provide everything you need for a memorable trip. With rates varying to suit all budgets and preferences, it's no wonder Costa Rica is a top destination for anglers worldwide.

A Look at Deep-Sea Fishing
Deep-sea fishing is unlike fishing in lakes or rivers. Also called big game fishing or offshore fishing, this type of fishing requires going into an ocean’s deep waters. A suitable area for deep-sea fishing needs to have waters no less than 100 feet deep.
Some of the world's biggest fish live in diverse hidden habitats found in the depths of the sea. People have fished there for many decades, and deeper ocean regions have become increasingly accessible to catch even rarer fish species.
Productive coastal regions possess nutrients that enable massive reproduction in many common fish species, guaranteeing their survival. However, many deep-sea fish thrive under different circumstances, such as unchanging environmental conditions. There are few fluctuations in temperatures, enabling these fish populations to thrive.
Unlike coastal waters, the deep sea has fewer nutrients. The competition for food at such depths is such that most species only produce fewer but highly competitive offspring. Scientists have called this reproduction strategy the “K-Strategy,“ where “K” is the carrying capacity of the environment. The deep-sea orange roughy is a good example of a deep-sea fish. It reaches sexual maturity at around 25 years, and can live more than 125 years. It grows slowly, and is good at surviving periods of food scarcity. A long lifespan compensates for periods of low reproduction.
Some fish in the deep sea are not K-strategists. This includes the blue whiting, which lives at depths between 100 and 1,000 meters. It produces plenty of offspring because the immature fish spend time in the shallow shelf areas where competition for food is high and there are predators to contend with.
Deep oceans contain the world's biggest fish, and avid anglers travel far to catch these fish. Deep-sea fishing provides ample recreation for the adventurous. The travel industry supports fishing expeditions along ocean routes, where guiding companies coordinate deep-sea fishing excursions. Fishers can try out different fishing methods while big, rolling waves constantly beat against their boat. Chumming, jigging, popping, and trolling are some of the methods. Excursions include half-day trips, full-day trips, night-fishing adventures, and multi-day excursions.

Offshore Fishing: Tips and Tricks for a Successful Catch
Introduction:Offshore fishing is a favourite among anglers who are looking to catch larger, more challenging fish species. This type of fishing takes you miles away from the coast, where you can experience the thrill of the deep sea. To make your offshore fishing trip a success, it’s essential to be well-prepared and knowledgeable. Here, we share some key tips and tricks to help you make the most of your offshore fishing experience.
Understanding Offshore FishingOffshore fishing involves venturing out into deeper waters, typically over 20 miles from shore. The fish here are usually larger and more powerful, including species like tuna, marlin, and mahi-mahi. Because you’re far from shore, it’s crucial to be prepared for the unique challenges that offshore fishing presents.
Choosing the Right Equipment
Heavy-Duty Rods and Reels: Offshore fishing requires gear that can handle the weight and power of big game fish. Make sure your rods and reels are up to the task.
Line and Leader: Use a strong line, often braided, that can withstand the stress of fighting a large fish. A fluorocarbon leader is also essential for avoiding break-offs.
Lures and Bait: Depending on your target species, you’ll need specific lures and bait. Common choices include live bait, trolling lures, and surface plugs.
Navigating the Waters
Weather Conditions: Always check the weather forecast before heading out. Offshore waters can be unpredictable, and it’s important to avoid rough seas.
Use of Electronics: GPS and fish finders are essential tools for offshore fishing. They help you locate the best fishing spots and navigate safely back to shore.
Understanding Currents: Offshore currents can affect where fish are located. Understanding how to read and use these currents to your advantage is a key skill.
Tips for a Successful Offshore Fishing Trip
Work with the Tides: Fish are often more active during certain tide phases. Research the best tides for the species you’re targeting.
Stay Patient and Persistent: Offshore fishing can be unpredictable, and it may take time to find and catch fish. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t hook a fish right away.
Keep an Eye on Birds: Seabirds often hover over schools of baitfish, which attract larger predators. Spotting bird activity can lead you to the action.
Conclusion:Offshore fishing is both challenging and rewarding. By equipping yourself with the right gear, knowledge, and patience, you can significantly increase your chances of a successful trip. Remember, every trip is an adventure, and the memories made on the open water are just as valuable as the fish you bring home.

Turks and Caicos Fishing: A Premier Angler's Paradise
One of the gems of the Caribbean, Turks and Caicos, offers fabulous beaches and clear turquoise waters. It gives, however, more to those who love adventure away from its shores—a home to some of the world's best fishing experiences.
Experience unrivalled Turks and Caicos fishing excursions, no matter whether you're a staunch angler or just a tyro looking to put initial bait in the water.
Diverse Fishing Experiences The beautiful thing about Turks and Caicos fishing, however, is that it has variety. On these islands, a person could get into deep-sea fishing, sport fishing, or even bone fishing on shallow flats. Each of these types has its own difficulties and rewards associated with them, making Turks and Caicos incredibly versatile for the angler.
Offshore Fishing: The Ultimate Challenge
Deep-sea fishing in Turks and Caicos will be a exciting experience for any angler wishing to catch big game fish. Less than one mile from shore, at a depth of 6,000 feet, the ocean floor drops off dramatically, creating the finest conditions for deep-sea fishing. Anglers can expect to catch a wide variety of species, which may include blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, mahi-mahi, wahoo, and sailfish.
These fish are huge, robust, and acrobatic; as such, catching them in deep-sea fishing is a test of both artistic and physical skill. Equipped with the most modern fishing gear and Captain A.B. Low from Mars Bay, these trips can be both diably exciting and accessible because he knows the waters like the back of his hand. Whether you are trying to catch record-breaking marlin or fast-paced wahoo, deep-sea fishing in Turks and Caicos is an adrenaline-pumping activity sure to be among the highlights during one's visit.
Bonefishing: The Art of the Flats
At the other end of the spectrum is bone fishing—the most subtle and technical type of fishing—immensely popular in Turks and Caicos. These islands are surrounded by extensive shallow flats, which serve as perfect hunting grounds for an elusive game fish: the bonefish. Dubbed "gray ghost" of the flats, bonefish have been spared by anglers in great regard for their speed, cunning, and challenging abilities.
Bone fishing is a test of patience, precision, and light touch. Much of it takes its excitement not in the catching but in the spotting, stalking, and then hooking that most elusive of prey. Expert guides at the art are local and should be contacted to find the best spots and get invaluable advice regarding all probabilities at one's fingertips. The thing about the shallow, clear waters of the flats adds one more dimension: you often get to see fish lightening-fast runs trying to get away, making it all so electrifying.
Reef and Bottom Fishing: An Excellent Alternative for Families
For an easier and more family-oriented experience, reef and bottom fishing are equally good for bonefishing around the coral reefs and shallower waters in general here on Turks and Caicos.
These excursions are great for beginners and kids because they usually catch a lot of fish. Common fish species that will not only give one a good run for your money but also taste very nice include snapper, grouper, barracuda, and jacks. Even more, most fishing charters add a touch with the catch-and-cook so one can savour one's fresh ocean-to-table feathered dish after a rewarding day out in the ocean. Sustainable Fishing Practice The Turks and Caicos keeping the marine environment in as pristine condition as possible is vital, with sustainable fishing practices paramount in their policy. Catch-and-release policies within many of the fishing charters ensure that such species as bonefish and marlin are healthy for future generations. This commitment to conservation means anglers can sustainably enjoy their sport while also contributing to the protection of these beautiful islands. Conclusion From the deep-sea fishing adrenaline rush to the quiet challenge of bone fishing in the flats, there's something for every fisherman when fishing in Turks and Caicos. Different marine ecologies blend with expert local guides and top-rate charter services to rank Turks and Caicos among the finest destinations of choice for anglers worldwide. Whether it's in pursuit of big game fish in the deep blue or simply an exercise in sharpening your skills on the flats, Turks and Caicos fishing offers experiences loaded with excitement, challenge, and memories that one will never forget. So grab your rod, set sail, and experience why Turks and Caicos truly can be called an angler's paradise.

Chapter 2, First Time on Pern: PP 15 - 5 - 15
Humans have been on Pern for 2,500 years. The original settlers genetically altered a local animal they called a Fire Lizard, to make them large enough to ride, so they could fight an organism that falls from the sky called Thread. The dragons flame the Thread in the air because if Thread reached the ground, it would devour anything organic, both plants and animals. At the time of our arrival, there is only one village or what they call a Hold in the southern continent. Everyone else lives on the northern continent.
The people of Pern live mainly in cliffs they carved out to make rooms, halls and other needed areas. The original settlers used stone cutting machines to cut the halls and cambers. But when the machines ran out of power, they started chiseling out the halls and chambers.
Jaxom is the only Lord Holder and dragon rider. He is Lord Holder of Ruatha Hold. He caught a very dangerous illness called Fire Head. He didn’t know he had it and fought Thread which exacerbate the Fire Head. He took his dragon, Ruth, to the southern continent to wash the fire stink off in the ocean, but when they arrived Jaxom succumbed to the Fire Head and passed out.
I’m not sure when the house arrived on Pern. But when we arrived it was about six weeks before Jaxom goes to the cove in the Southern Continent and has Fire Head. So, my house was there when we arrived. That gives us plenty of time to get the Hold set up and for us to get adjusted to being on Pern, before we have to do much interacting with the people of Pern.
The land is fairly flat where the house is situated. But hills can be seen both north and south. It looks like the house is in a kind of a shallow valley running east and west. The house runs along with the length of the valley. It will give fairly good protection from winds from hurricanes. We are only about one hundred miles from the ocean so we will get some winds from any hurricanes offshore. But being that far from the ocean, the winds should be a lot less damaging. According to the Pern maps we, the house, are about 100 miles from the ocean. But then, according to the maps, the southern continent is smaller than the U.S., and the norther continent is about 600 miles from the most southern point of Southern Ball to the Nothern Barrier Range. But in reality, that distance should be a lot closer to 3000 miles. That would make my Hold around 500 miles from the ocean, but to make everything simpler, I will use the Pern map scale.
= = = == = = = = =
Passing through a graveyard, off to the side is a large mausoleum with my name over the door, with several places for more names. Taking a closer look at the gravestones, there weren’t very many of them, all of the gravestones were blank. Thinking back, I remember that these aren’t really graves, they were more like markers. Any name that I put on the gravestones, that person can’t really die. If they are ‘killed’, they will find themselves back here in front of the grave with their name on it, healthy and whole. I’ll have to talk with the graveyard caretaker and have her put all of the names of my roommates on the blank tomb stones.
I reached into my pocket. After fishing around for a moment, I pull out the key to the front door. Opening the door, I hold it open for the others to enter the house.
“How about a tour of the house?” I said, wanting to see the house myself. “I haven’t been in it myself, so I’m figuring out where everything is. The front entryway is a Green House.” There are many different kinds of plants growing in here. It’s a large room, well a large green house with a glass roof and glass walls. With a main path through the middle of the room leading to…
Next is the main living room. It’s Big and grand, with a large TV on one wall, and an arcade and game room upstairs. It is big enough to hold a Christmas party with a large number of friends and family. “This is the main living room. It includes some old-style arcade games.” I said pointing to the balcony.
Then we find the kitchen. Or I should say one of the kitchens, because I know there are two of them. It looks more like a cafe than a kitchen. A woman walked out from the back. “May I get you anything?” She asked.
“Not right now. We’re just taking a tour of the house. I’m sure we’ll be back in a little while. Thank you.” I tell her. The woman nodded her head and smiles. “Come back any time.” She said.
“This is one of the kitchens. Although this one is more like a cafe then a kitchen. Just about any kind of food you want, you can get in here.” I informed them.
The next room is the master bedroom, with a HUGE bed in it. It’s big enough to hold 15 people.
“That is a huge bed.” Robbie observed. “It looks like at least 12 people or more, could sleep in it. Who is going to sleep here.” Robbie asked me.
“Well, it’s my bedroom along with the other master bedroom. But since it will hold about 15 people…” I trailed off.
Amber cut in with a big grin on her face. “Looks nice. I can’t wait to use it.” She said.
I laughed, not sure how to take that. “Well, any of you girls that want to sleep in here are welcome too. And like I said before, there are other girls that are roommates, as well as y'all. And any of them will be welcome to sleep in here as well.”
Amber giggled. “Sounds like your working on your own harem to me.”
I start to protest, but before I could say anything, Robbie spoke up. “Harem: NOUN (in former times) the separate part of a Muslim household reserved for wives, concubines, and female servants. 'we were invited into the harem in the rear of the house’ The women occupying a harem; the wives (or concubines) of a polygamous man. "The Maharaja of Delhi had a very fine harem of 18 young and nubile wives” A group of female animals sharing a single mate. 'The dominant bulls gather a harem of anything from two to ten cows’ derogatory A group of women perceived as centering around a particular man. “Rich men with their extensive harems of buxom blondes…’ Interesting.”
It sounded like Robbie was talking more to herself than the rest of us.
Everyone was looking at Robbie. I break the silence. “Thank you, Robbie.”
She looked at me then at everyone else. Then she looked at the floor. “I am sorry. I did not mean anything by it. I just wanted to make sure I understood what a 'harem’ was.”
I put my arm around Robbie’s shoulder and give her a hug. “It’s alright Robbie. It’s going to take some time getting used to each other.” Robbie put her arms around me and returned the hug, and I heard her softly say. “Harem.” Then she dropped her arms, stepped back a little and asked. “Will I be able to sleep in here, or will I have to sleep in a different bedroom?”
“There are apartments you can stay in, if you want. But you’re welcome to sleep in here.” I told her. “And just because any of you sleep in here with me, doesn’t mean there will be any hanky-panky going on.
"Hanky-panky?” Robbie asked, more to herself. Then she looked into space. Her eyes moving left and right like she was reading. After a moment she blushed and giggled.
Crystal walked over to Robbie and whispered to her. Robbie whispered back. Crystal blushed and giggled also. I guess Robbie told Crystal what 'hanky-panky’ means.
Taima stepped up. “Anywhere Eilwyn sleep is where I sleep.” And she put an arm around my waist.
I could feel my face starting to burn. I’m sure it was turning red. “Ya, well, um… Let’s keep going with the tour, shall we.” I pointed to a second door in the bedroom. “That should be the Master Bathroom. I believe this one is like a bath house.” I told them as I lead them into the Master Bathroom.
It’s a huge room. There is a big natural pool for bathing. It looks like an acre pond with a stream flowing in at the upper end and another stream flowing out at the lower end of the pool. There are a few small waterfalls that look like they could be used as showers. Along with wooden walkways around the pool. The walkways also lead to several small building that look like private bath houses. Along the walkway there are buckets with different kinds of soaps in them. There are also benches with clean towels on them.
“I hope no ones shy.” Amber said with a giggle.
“That’s probably what the small buildings are for.” I said.
“Or other things.” Amber said, wiggling her eyebrows up and down a couple times.
I ignored that.
We headed out of the Master Bathroom, back into the Master Bedroom. And as we left the Master Bedroom, Amber took my hand. “Are you going to call this master bedroom, Eilwyn’s Harem?” And she gave me a mischievous grin.
Taken by surprise, it took me a moment to answer. “No, no, if I do give it a name, that room will probably be Master Bedroom #1. And the other one will be Master Bedroom #2. Just to keep them separate. Or I might name this one 'The Bedroom’. I think taking that master bedroom was probably a bad idea. Nothing I can do about it now.” Amber squeezed my hand before releasing it. And Taima giggled.
On to the next room, the Hall Closet. Opening the door there is a store in here, with all kinds of items to buy. Some normal, some exotic, and some downright strange. “Don’t even have to leave the house to go shopping.” Robbie said.
“There’s another 'closet’ that takes you to a tropical island with friendly natives. Y'all can check it out later if you want to.” I told them as we passed by the door to that closet.
Mercedes made an observation. “There are a lot of rooms. Are there any regular bedrooms?”
“Oh, yes.” I pointed out the apartments. “There are a few apartments, with two bedrooms, a kitchen, Livingroom, and one and a half bathrooms, each. They are quite normal. A couple of the apartments I’m going to put bunk beds in the bedrooms. Or ask you, Mercedes, to build bunk beds in, I should say. If you wouldn’t mind. So, they will have enough beds for some friends. There are two apartments in the basement. Those are the ones I want the bunk beds in.” I told her. “I’ll probably need to number them or give them names, so no one gets confused which room they are staying in. I think I’m going to have to put names on all the different rooms, so everyone will know which room is which.”
“Do you want the bunk beds made out of wood or metal?” Mercedes asked me.
I shrugged my shoulders. “Which ever you want. Or I should say, whichever will last the longest and be the easiest to make.” I told her.
Mercedes nodded her head in understanding.
Looking into the next room. “This one you should like Mercedes.” I said, motioning her to go into the room.
Mercedes started into the room and stopped dead in her tracks. Her mouth in a BIG 'O’. And Robbie was looking around with interest. The room is a laboratory able to handle any kind of “science” including engineering and mechanics. I looked at the other girls. “I think we’ll have to drag her out of here.” I said chuckling. “And if you need information on how to build or create something.” I pointed towards some bookshelves. “There are plenty of books you can read that will teach you.”
“Come on Mercedes. You can go through everything in here after the tour and you get settled in.” I told Mercedes. She slowly turned back to the door still looking over her shoulder, bumping her shoulder into the door jam.
Opening another door. “What do we have in here?” I ask rhetorically to the group.
“Library!” Exclaimed Robbie.
“Just be careful what you read. I understand that some of the books contain extremely dangerous information. I know you want to learn as much as possible, but some things should never be learned or relearned. That goes for everyone.” I told the group.
As Robbie looked around at all the books. “I’ll be careful.” She replied.
“That’s all I ask.” I told her and lead them to the next room.
The next room was full of weapons. Looking at the girls. “I don’t think many of you will be that interested in this room but some of you might. The Armory holds any weapon you can imagine.” I said, as I let everyone look around for a minute or so.
“I think we’re getting close to the end.” I told the girls.
“And the next room is…” I opened the door. “A craft and hobby room. This should be a busy room, or at least I hope it will be. With lots of crafting going on here.” I picked up a book on a table. “And roll playing.” I said showing them the RPG book.
Taking a closer look at the tools and craft supplies. There were tools and supplies for lamp working (glass bead making), Chain Maille knitting, leather working, tatting, bobbin lace, jewelry making, metal working, candle making, needle work, and lots and LOTS more. Any craft or hobby you can think of you will find the tools and supplies you will need. Along with every RPG ever created, and also board games and card games.
After everyone looked around for a couple minutes, I ushered them out, back into the hallway and to the next room.
“Oh, this is a good one. This room is a home theater. I like this one.” I said walking between the seats. “Might need to put in a popcorn machine. Although you can get popcorn and drinks from the Cafe.” Continuing, I wagged my finger at the girls. “Just pick up after yourselves. Don’t want trash all over the floor. And NO gum under the seats, please.” The seats are big and look like recliners or rocker-recliners, with soft cushions. They are big enough to curl up in or possibly sit two people together. There is a small table between each seat/chair. “I should probably reserve my seat now.” I said grinning.
The next room is another kitchen. It looks more like a bakery. “This is the second kitchen. If you’ll believe it, it’s run by a family of Fairies. I understand they have loads of stories they can tell you. This will be a good place to come to, for high tea. If you’re into that kind of thing. Or a nice breakfast and/or bedtime snack.”
There was an elderly Fairy cleaning the counter. Looking up from her work, Grandma Fairy grinned. “Come for something to eat?” She asked.
I grinned back. “Not yet. I’m taking my new roommates on a tour of the house, right now. But a blackberry cobbler would be nice as a bedtime snack.” I suggested, winking at her. “Everyone else in the back?”
Grandma, fluttered up off the counter to be at eye level with me. “They are getting everything good and clean, and ready to start baking.” She said.
I nodded my head. “Well, there’s eighteen of us living here right now. So, there should be plenty of people to keep you and your family busy, but not too busy. I believe you know there is another kitchen in the house?” She nodded her head, yes. “So, I’ll try to make sure everyone uses both kitchens. I know I’m planning on eating breakfast in here most of the time. And getting my snacks here as well.” I told Grandma. A couple of the girls agreed. “And if you and your family want a day off. Feel free to go to the other kitchen to get something to eat.” I told her, as we headed out to the next room. “Don’t want anyone to feel left out. Oh, and don’t forget to use the back yard, the water park Master Bathroom or the island in the closet.” Grandma waved as we left the kitchen.
Going to the next room. “And this is a Recording Studio. If any of you can sing or know anyone that sings, or even tell stories. They can make a recording of themselves here.” I told the group. “I already have plans for using this room. I just have to get ahold of a few people first.”
Amber started doing a high-pitched scale. Then went into the stereotypical opera singer spoof. “I can be a 'Star’!” She said melodramatically and started bowing to an imaginary audience.
We all started laughing, and clapping. “Encore, encore!” Yuki said as she laughed.
“Echo Chamber.” Robbie said.
“What? What do you mean, by echo chamber?” Yuki asked.
“The name of the Recording Studio. Eilwyn said he wanted to name the different rooms. So, this room could be called, The Echo Chamber.” Robbie replied.
I pursed my lips and nodded my head in agreement. “Sounds good to me. I like it. Good choice Robbie. From now on, this room is, 'The Echo Chamber’.”
Robbie blushed but smiled.
Down the hall we entered the second master bedroom. “Here’s the other master bedroom. It’s nothing much, this one.” There is a king-sized bed, a TV, a desk, and dresser. It looks like a normal bedroom.
“This room reminds me of my parents’ bedroom.” Amber said. She walked over to the nightstand and opened up the drawer. Reaching in she pulled out a candy bar. Looking at the candy bar, then at me with a shocked expression on her face. “This is the kind of candy bar my mother used to keep in her nightstand when I was little.”
I nodded my head. “Not surprising. This room is supposed to feel familiar and comforting.
I pointed to a second door. "And that should be the master bathroom.” I said, leading them into the bathroom. “This master bathroom is a water park. With water slides, a lazy river, a wave pool and other water rides.” You could hear screaming, as people plunged down steep rides.
Yuki squealed. “I can’t wait to get my body back so I can play in here.” She said excitedly.
Everyone laughed. “You’ll have plenty of company, I’m sure.” Amber said. Then looking at me. “There are other people here? Are they more roommates or what?” She asked me.
I shook my head, no. “No, they’re just, illusions or phantom images of people so it looks like there are other people in here. Kind of like the holodeck on Star Trek the Next Generation. That way it feels like a working water park.” I told her. “The guests can be turned off if you don’t want to deal with pretend people.”
She looked relieved. “That’s good. I don’t have to worry about a bunch of strangers barging into the house.” She finished, sighing with relief.
Heading back out through the master bedroom, back to the hallway and to the back entry way. As we enter, a gate opened so we could enter the room. Once we all were in the room, the gate closed behind the last person that entered the room. “And the back entryway is the 'Pet Park’. A place for any pet.” I told the girls.
The room is full of cat trees, cubbies of several different sizes, rock ledges, what looks like branches for birds to perch on, and many other items pets would like or want. As well as an area with grass and trees.
Taima looked around the room enthusiastically. “It looks like it would be fun to play in here.” The other girls looked at Taima a little confused.
Figuring I should explain. “Taima is a Familiar/Companion. Well, my familiar/Companion. She can shapeshift to a few different forms. Her main form is a Titanium Dragon. Right now, she’s in her human form. Y'all will get to see all of her different forms as time goes by.”
“A Familiar? Are you a witch or wizard then?“ Yuki asked me.
Laughing. "No, I don’t consider myself a witch or wizard. Although I can cast spells. I have many powers and/or abilities. But like I told Taima before y'all showed up. I prefer the term Companion to Familiar.” I told her. “Let’s keep going. Shall we?” Trying to deflect attention away from myself.
Going to the back door the gate slid into the wall. After everyone passed through the door, the gate slid back across the doorway. Preventing any animal left in the 'Pet Park’ from leaving the room. Unless they are taken out.
“And last but not least, the back yard.” I made a sweeping motion with my hand. There is a large expanse of white sand and clear blue water. Not far from the back door is a gazebo with a BBQ grill and small refrigerator, along with a sitting area with low tables with comfortable chairs around them and some picnic tables.
On the beach are several girls lounging on the sand and playing in the water. Even though I haven’t seen them before they looked familiar. “Ah, more roommates, it looks like.” I informed the girls with me.
Just past the girls are a couple small sail boats. One a catamaran the other a single hull sailboat. Well, they are small boats now. But if I remember correctly, they will enlarge if the 'captain’ wants them to be bigger. They will enlarge to be big enough for four to six people to be able to live on them. Once the boat(s) are large, the 'captain’ can shrink them back to their small size when wanted or needed.
A couple of the girls spotted us and waved. Returning the wave, I cupped my hands together making a small megaphone and called to them. “Why don’t y'all come in. We can get something to eat and introduce everyone.” And I followed up by waving them in. As I called to them more heads turned. Then they started getting up. Gathering up their belongings and heading to the back door where we are.
There was a wide range of heights. Several of the girls are short, five foot or shorter, a few six foot and taller and only a couple about average height of around five and a half feet tall. As they got closer where I could see their faces, names started coming to me. All of them have a bit of a different or even strange look to them. Not quite human, or only part human. One of the shorter girls, once she was about 50 feet away starts running towards me. Once she reached me, she flings her arms around me giving me a big hug. I put my arms around her and returned the hug. She has shoulder length, brown hair, dog ears on her head and a dog tail extending from her tail bone. She’s only about four and a half feet tall.
She turned her head to look up at me. “Oh, I’ve missed you so much. I’m so happy that you’re here.” She said while her tail, wagged.
I kiss her on the top of her head. “It’s good to see you too, Kangee.” Looking up at the other girls walking up from the beach. “Put your things up and meet us in the Cafe.” I told them, then guided the others back to the 'main’ kitchen. I have decided to call the cafe kitchen 'The Cafe’ to distinguish it from the Fairy kitchen, which will probably be called 'The Bakery’. Walking into the Cafe, there are several tables around the edge of the dining room. But there are a couple bigger tables in the middle of the room. We pushed the two together, so everyone could sit at the same table.
“Everyone take a seat. You might want to scatter out around the table, so we can all get to know each other.” I told the girls. Taima took a seat just to my right. As we waited for the others to arrive, from putting their things up, a youngish girl walked up to the table. “May I take your order?” She asked. Her name tag had Lyla on it.
“Hi Lyla, there will be several more people in a few minutes. But I’ll take a sweet tea to drink, and an ostrich burger and fries.” I give her my order. “And when you get the other’s orders, could you ask your parents to come out. I’d like to talk to them. And don’t worry, nothing is wrong. I just want to have a chat with them for a minute or two.”
“I’ll do that.” Lyla said as she went to the others to take their orders.
I stood up from the table and walked over to the counter, when Lyla’s parents came out. “You wanted to talk to us about something?” Sam asked me. The Cafe is a family run business. Sam and Sophia are the owners and are husband and wife. They have six children that help them run the cafe.
I explain about them taking two days off a week for family time. And about them using the Water Park, master bathroom and the Beach. And they can use the other kitchen to eat on their days off if they wanted to. “I know it’s my house but there is no sense being selfish and keeping the water park and beach for just me, my roommates and friends. There is way more than enough room in both, for everyone here to have room to play in the water.” I told them. “And besides I hope your family and my friends here will all become friends or at least good acquaintances. And I told the Fairies in the Bakery, the same thing.” I told them. “And don’t forget the tropical island in the closet.”
Sam nodded his head in understanding. “We’ll talk about it. Thank you, it’s generous of you.” Sam said. Then Sam and Sophia went back to the kitchen.
Heading back to the table, I saw the other girls were coming in and taking seats. Lyla came back to the table, bringing the first drinks and started taking the orders for the new arrivals. Kangee took the seat to my left. With the other girls spreading out around the table. Once everyone had given Lyla their order and she left to fill them, I had everyone introduce themselves around the table.
“With so many people, it will be hard to remember names. So don’t be afraid to ask someone’s name. And don’t get upset if your asked what your name is. If you want, we can always use name tags for a while,” I chuckled, and many of the girls laughed. “Until everyone can remember everyone’s names.” I said to the group. “Remember there are two kitchens, so use both of them. Don’t want anyone to feel left out because only one kitchen is being used. And remember you can all use either master bedroom and master bathrooms. Or you can pick a guest room to use. But if you pick a guest room, make sure to take a room someone else is using, if possible. The two guest rooms in the basement I’m going to have bunk beds put in, so they can be used by teams from Remnant. And I shouldn’t have to say it, but I will just in case. Everyone is welcome to use any of the other rooms, like the theater, library, craft room, and so on. Just pick up after yourselves. Opal here is our maid.” I looked at Opal, and she nodded her head grinning. “But she’s not here to clean up every mess anyone makes. She will do general cleaning. And she gets two days off a week. I’m guessing that will be Saturday and Sunday?” I finish, looking at Opal.
“Saturday and Sunday off, is fine with me.” Opal said.
“As time goes on, we can get you some help. If you need it.” I told her.
Opal is a bit of an oddity. Her skin is blueish purple in color. Her hair is black with purple highlights, that reaches mid back, and grey eyes. She has tentacles that can change to any tool she needs at the time. She has a sweet and friendly personality. When she is 'on the clock’, she would rather work/clean than talk to people. But when she is 'off the clock’, she becomes talkative and loves to interact with friends and family. She considers everyone in the house friends and/or family.
Opal
“Because of Opal’s skin color and tone. She blends into shadows easily. Because of that she seems to sneak up on people and scares the crap out of them. I think she gets a giggle out of it.” I told everyone.
Opal was looking down at the table but was giggling softly. “I don’t do it on purpose.” She said softly.
Kangee took my arm in both of her arms. “I want to sleep in the monster bed with you.”
“Monster bed?” Someone asked.
“The bed in one of the master Bedrooms is HUGE. It’s like a monster bed. It’s Eilwyn’s Harem Bedroom” Amber replied, grinning.
“Me too.” Jett put in with a big smile on her face.
I glared at Amber. “It… is… NOT, my harem bedroom!” I said forcefully, but with no anger.
Amber started giggling, and some of the other girls started giggling also.
I turned to look at Taima who had a big grin on her face. “I’m sleeping wherever you sleep. You know that.” She said to me.
“Yes, I knew that.” I replied.
Mercedes gave a little cough. “I think I’ll take one of the guest rooms.” She had a sheepish look on her face.
“That’s fine.” I reassured her. “If anyone wants, they can use the other bedroom in that apartment and can swap out. That is, staying in an apartment, part of the time and staying in the master bedroom with me part of the time. That way you get some alone time and some privacy.” I suggested. “And the second master Bedroom can be used as well. If need be, Mercedes can put in bunk beds in a third apartment. That just means four girls instead of two will be able to stay in the apartment.”
They nodded their heads in agreement, with a few “Okays”, “Sounds good”, and some started talking to each other. I waited a couple minutes before starting again.
“A couple more things you need to know.” I started. “We are on a planet called Pern. Most of the animals are nothing like what you are used to. And there is one big danger here. It is called 'Thread’. It falls from the sky every few days, and you do NOT want to be out in it when it falls. The plants in the yard should be fine but animals and people can be seriously hurt or even killed if it lands on them or you. As long as you’re in the house or some other shelter made of stone or metal, there will be no problem with the 'Thread’. And once it’s passed you can go out again. Although I have an idea for something to do, so y'all can go out and not have to worry about 'Thread’. Although my idea will only protect you, not your clothes.”
Taima looked at me. [Either way should work.] She sent to me. I nodded my head in agreement.
“Going to the next item. I need to explore my land. It’s a fifty-five mile by one hundred forty-mile tract of land. That’s seven thousand five hundred square miles of land. We are just south of where Cove Hold will be built. The land starts at the western boundary of the old Amsterdam, Bavaria and Milan Stake holds and goes to the Paradise River Hold. The northern boundary follows the north boundary of Amsterdam Steak Hold, and the southern boundary follows the southern boundary of Milan over to Paradise River.” I pointed out on a map of the Southern Continent of Pern. “I want to make it so, when people from the north come south, they won’t be able to take my land, or our land, I guess I should say. Any of you that want to go with me to survey the land, are quite welcome to come along.”
Looking around the tables, there are Gnomes. Gnomes are short and good with the earth. They can rejuvenate over used soil or even turn deserts to usable farmland. They have what would be called a Mediterranean skin tone. “Hong, Jett and Topaz the land is fertile, but you might want to check it out and make sure. And it would be nice if there were some good minerals under the ground.” I winked at Jett, Hong and Topaz.
Jett
Hong
Topaz
The Dwarf is next. Dwarves are also short. They are very good at mining and making armor and weapons. “Sucki you can check on what is here already, mineral wise. I’m not expecting to have much of anything here right now. But in time you might be busy.”
Suki
I turned to look at the Trolls, Violet and Snowdrop. Trolls are not ugly monsters. They are on the short side, around 5 foot tall. They are very good gardeners/farmers. “Violet, Snowdrop, I want you two to start an orchard of several different fruit trees. You can also work on a garden or small farm for veggies and herbs. Some of the herbs can be grown in the green house, but everything else can be outside away from the house. Most of the land is wooded so we’ll have to clear some areas for the orchards and gardens or farm.” I said.
Violet
Snowdrop
Next, I turned to the two Holstaurs. Holstaurs are the female version of Minitours. Except they have human heads instead of cow heads like the males. They are very gentle, caring, and good with farm animals. “And we’ll have to clear land for farm animals. Heather and Verdi, I want you to start on a heard or two. There are cows here, on Pern, and what are called wherries. We will probably just raise Cattle, to start with. But it would be good to know how to raise wherries also. Wherries are kind of like turkeys, but they have four legs, and they range from the size of an Emu up to the size of an ostrich.”
Heather
Verdi
To everyone. “There should be books in the library about plants, animals, minerals as well as Pern in general, in the library. So, check them out.”
Now to the Cyclops. Cyclops are around 6 foot tall. They only have one eye, but instead of it being in the center of their face. Their eye is either on the left or right side of the face like a regular eye. The other eye is either not there and the socket sealed over, or they are blind in the second eye. They are master smiths and master jewelry makers. “Willow, I would like you to work on making jewelry. I’ll take you to some gathers so you can get an idea of what the people here like. And so, you know, gathers are what they have on a day off where they can set up booths to sell leather work, food, drink, and such. Other than that, there should be everything you need in the craft room and the lab.”
Willow
“As for Gathers. I’ll see about taking everyone to a gather from time to time.” I told the group in general. “It will be a little while before we will be going to any gathers though. We have to get everything here up and running first. And once the Southern Continent is opened up and we get more people. We will hold gathers here every chance we get.”
“I’ll see what there is in a little while.” Willow told me.
“No need to worry about it right now. You can check out things in your own time. It’s going to take a while for us to get settled in and get everything going. The herds, orchards, and garden or farm will take a while to set up and get going. We don’t really need the animals and farm because of the two kitchens. But it’ll be a way of making money later on. So, there is no big hurry.” I said.
Next, I turned to the Shoggoth. Shoggoth are also tall, but not quite as tall as the Cyclops. They prefer to take care of people. Thus, they tend to enjoy being maids or working with children. “Opal, I believe you know what to do. Keep the place clean. And that does NOT mean everyone else can just trash the place.” I said looking around the table at everyone. “And any of you that stay in a guest room, I expect you to keep the rooms picked up. No need to work Opal into exhaustion.”
Then the Kobold. Kobolds are on the short side, around 4 feet 6 inches tall. They resemble a human with dog features. Usually, dog ears and dog tail. Some have part of their body covered in fur. They can sense danger and smell out different plants. And they are protective of their friends and family. “Kangee, I would like you to guard the house and property. I don’t believe there will be much trouble, but there are wild cats and dogs that might cause some problems. Later on, we’ll be able to hire more people to guard the land.”
Kangee
Last the Automatons. Automatons are just that, automations, robots, androids. They are average in size around 5 feet 6 inches tall. They learn quickly and are willing to learn to do just about anything. “Now that leaves Crystal and Gina. You two can pitch in where any help is needed. If you want, you can capture some of the big cats and dogs and put them in the Pet Park, so they can be trained. We can breed them and sell the young after they have been trained, as guard animals, herding animals and/or pets. If you can get the young for that it would be a lot easier. Or after the radio station is set up, you can learn to be a DJ.”
Crystal
Gina
Gina grinned. “I believe it would be fun to be a DJ. I’d like to do that?”
“You sure can. I would suggest you go to the library and Lab and see what books there are on running a radio station, and on being a DJ.”
Gina just nodded her head, in agreement.
I looked around the table at Amber, Robbie, Yuki and Mercedes. “You can do what you want. Help with whatever you would like to.”
Taima looked at me with a pouty face and in a sad voice, said. “What about me?”
I knew she was teasing, and chuckled. “You’ll almost always be with me. So, whatever I’m doing you’ll probably be doing.” She smiled and batted her eye lashes at me.
Mercedes raised her hand. “Um, you said something about wanting me to make something for you. Can you tell me about that now?”
“Oh, ya. I need you to start building a radio station. Well all the electronics, satellite dishes and such, for it. They don’t have any kind of communication here. So, I want to get a radio station set up and start broadcasting music, weather reports, farm reports and the like. We will need a broadcast tower also. I know you are good at building stuff like that, but if you aren’t sure what all is needed, there should be books in the Lab that you can read to get all the information you’ll need. You’ll also need to make crystal radios, until they get electricity. Then you can make powered radios. Robbie might like working with you if she wants. Plus, the bunk beds, start on them first, if you would, please.”
“When do you want it finished?” Mercedes asked me.
“You have plenty of time. It will be about one to one and a half years before the radio station needs to be done. They won’t be ready for radios before that. But you can make everything, and then we can get the buildings, built and everything set up. And if nothing else, we can start broadcasting for ourselves. That way whoever wants to be a radio DJ,” I pointed at Gina. “Can learn what to do before the rest of the planet is ready for radios. And if we start broadcasting for ourselves to start with, we will have something to listen to while gardening, working with the animals, and so on.”
Mercedes gave me a strange look. “That’s a lot to build and set up.”
“I know, but like I said, we don’t need it right away. But the sooner it is built, the sooner we can have our own radio station to listen to.” I told her. “And for a while we can broadcast old radio shows.” I added.
“Radio shows? What radio shows?” Crystal asked.
“Shows they had on the radio before TV came out. Shows like; The Shadow, My Favorite Husband, Gunsmoke, Tarzan, and there are many more.” I explained.
“Oh.” Crystal said making the word into a big 'O’ as she said it.
Amber raised her hand to get my attention. “Is that everything? I’d like to hit the beach.”
“Don’t hit it too hard. It might hurt.” I said with a grin.
Amber stuck her tongue out at me.
I held my hand up to stop her. “Thinking about it. They already created Their own version of a telegraph machine. The wires couldn’t withstand Thread fall though. So, coming up with something that doesn’t need wires to broadcast the signal would be the next step.” I looked at Mercedes and grinned. “That means you just invented the radio.” I said.
Mercedes frowned. “But radios have already been invented. I can’t invent something that’s already been invented.”
I grinned. “They haven’t been invented HERE on Pern. That means anything new is an invention right now. We can tell everyone that you learned about the device Master Fanderel 'invented’, and that you or we came up with something that does NOT require wires.” I told her and chuckled.
“Can we really do that?” Mercedes asked me.
“Why not? We’re NOT on Earth or any other planet with radios. So, we can invent it here and make some Marks from it in the process.” I replied.
“It makes sense. Even when they find AIVAS then discovering radio waves would make sense. The telegraph doesn’t work because of Thread so they, or us in this case, discover an alternative to sending messages.” Robbie chimed in.
“It works to everyone’s advantage.” Amber stated. “They get a way to communicate over long distances and 'we' get the credit and money for it.“ She said giggling.
I looked around the table. "Robbie, Crystal and Gina. If you would, help Mercedes with the radio station and radio tower. The sooner it’s up and running the sooner we start making Marks. On Pern they call money, Marks.”
“Okay back to what we were talking about before I sidetracked us with the radio station.” I said and looked at Amber. “Hitting the beach is a good idea. But one last item before fun in the sun. I don’t want to overwhelm everyone, but I want to let everyone know what’s going on and so I don’t forget anything.” Amber laughed at that. “Like I brought you here.” I indicate Amber, Robbie, Yuki, and Mercedes. “I can go to other 'universes’. If you want to go back to Earth for a visit, just let me know and I’ll take you there. And I’m planning on going to the RWBY Universe. There are monsters there that need to be killed and bad guys to take care of. My first trip there I’ll start at an academy that teaches how to do that. They put you in teams. So, I’ll get a team to work with. And I want to bring my team and a couple other teams back here for R&R from time to time. That’s why the guest rooms in the basement will need a set of bunk beds put in each of the bedrooms.” I looked at Mercedes. “Any of you that want to go, can. I’ll see what I can do to get you in the academy if you want to attend, or you can go for a weekend, after I get settled in.” I explained.
Amber cocked her head to the side, scrunched up her face and looked at me. “You mean you’ll be gone a lot?”
“Yes and no. When I open a portal to different universes, I can go to 'when’ I want to. So, I can go to the RWBY Universe, stay there a week, and when I come back here, I’ll have been gone only as long as I want to be gone. That means I can be at the academy for a week and come back, but here I’ll have only been gone one minute, or however long I want. I know it’s a little confusing, but I want to get settled in here and start surveying the land and get it staked out before I go to the RWBY Universe.” I grinned. “I’ll be here for a couple weeks before I go to Remnant. That’s the planet of the RWBY Universe. Ok, that’s it for now. Go swim. Go do whatever you want for the rest of the day.” I made shooing motions with my hands at everyone.
As I stood up to leave, I heard Mercedes's comment. “I’m going to check out the lab. I want to see what all is in there.” She said in an excited voice.
I called after her. “It’s not your lab. Let anyone that wants to work in there, do so. And have fun.”
Amber and Robbie walked over to me. Amber spoke first. “I want to go swimming, but I don’t have a bathing suit.”
“I do not have a bathing suit either.” Robbie added.
“Well, you have two choices. You can go to, The Store, that’s the shop in the closet and get one. Or you can skinny dip.” Amber blushed and Robbie looked serious and slightly confused. “We are the only ones around for fifty miles or more. So, the only people that will see you are the other girls here and myself.”
Robbie still with a confused look on her face. “What is, skinny dipping?”
Amber spoke up. “That’s when you go swimming with no swimsuit or no clothes on. You swim… naked.” And she blushed and giggled.
“Is it common for people to skinny dip?” Robbie asked Amber.
“Well, not really. Most people might skinny dip once or twice in their life. But then, a few people skinny dip as often as they can get away with it.” Amber informed her.
Robbie looked over at me. “Would it be inappropriate for me to 'skinny dip’?” She asked me.
Knowing Robbie is learning new things and wanting to learn more. “Here, at home, it would not be inappropriate to go skinny dipping. But if you were at someone else’s house. It probably would be inappropriate to skinny dip. Although it would depend on if they skinny dip or not.” I told Robbie. Then added. “Now if any of the students from Remnant are here. I would suggest you wear a bathing suit. They are probably not used to anyone skinny dipping.” Turning to Amber. “If you’re not comfortable skinny dipping. You can always start out by going topless.” I suggested. “I’m hitting the beach.” Kangee and Taima followed behind me.
Once outside, Crystal, Jett and Willow met me as I passed the gazebo. “May we talk to you?” Jett asked shyly.
I nodded my head, yes. “Let’s go in here.” I point to the gazebo. Entering, I took a seat at one of the low tables and motioned for the others to take seats also. “What do you want to talk about?” Taima and Kangee followed us in and took seats along with everyone else.
Jett looked at Crystal as if they were trying to decide who should start talking. After a couple moments Jett spoke up. “We would like to go with you to the other place you were talking about.”
“Other place? You mean, Remnant?” I asked. Both Crystal and Jett nodded their heads, yes, and Willow said. “Me too.”
“You do realize there will be quite a bit of learning, to fight monsters, and a lot of fighting monsters?” Again, they all nodded their heads, yes.
Crystal added. “We want to be on your team there.” She blushed.
“If all you want to do is be on my team. I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s going to be a lot of work. And once we graduate there will be lots of dangerous Grimm to fight. Grimm are what the monsters are called. And there is a small chance we might not be on the same team.” I informed them.
Jett and Crystal both frowned and looked down at the table. “But we want to be on your team and help you fight monst… Grimm.” Jett said in a sad voice.
Willow leaned forward on the table. “Can I go too? I can learn how to fight.”
I chuckled. “That’s four and that would make a team. I believe I can fix it so we would all be on the same team. It’s not 100% that we’ll be on the same team. But it’ll be 98% chance we’ll be on the same team.”
Crystal smiled. “I’ll take those odds.” She said and Jett nodded her head in agreement.
Taima piped in. “What about me? Will I be on your team, too?”
I looked at Taima. “You know wherever I go, you go. And technically you won’t be on my team, our team. But we’ll work around that.”
Jett cut in. “How come she always gets to be with you and do everything you do?” She said pointing at Taima.
I put my arm around Taima. “She’s my Familiar/Companion. She is always in my head, telepathically. Well, we are in each other’s heads. We know what the other is thinking, unless we concentrate to block the other out. And she has a few powers, she and I can both use.”
Both Crystal and Jett, perk up at that pronouncement. “Powers?” Jett said.
“What powers?” Crystal added.
“She can shapeshift into several different animal forms. Human is not her natural form. She can increase and decrease her size. She’s much stronger, faster, and more agile than normal. She can shoot a couple different elemental blasts from her mouth or hands, depending on what form she’s in. And she knows some magic. Nothing super big but very useful.” I told them.
I looked at Taima for a few moments. Do you think it would be OK for them to go to Remnant with me? I asked her mentally.
If they really want to go, and you could give them some abilities to help them out. I don’t see a problem with them going. Taima replied.
I nodded my head, then turned to the girls. “If you’re really interested in going to Remnant, I have a form you need to go through and fill out.”
Crystal looked a little worried. “We have to fill out papers, to go with you?” She asked.
I shook my head, no. “No, the papers just give me information I’ll need so I can give 'you’ powers also. You see many people in Remnant have what’s called an Aura. It’s kind of like a shield, and they have a Semblance, which is what some would call their, Superpower. They both help with fighting Grimm and bad guys. And you’ll have to choose a weapon to learn to fight with. Once you do all that. I can give you the powers and weapon you’ll need. The paper tells you about Auras and Semblances.” I informed them. “And you’ll hear the terms Huntsmen and Huntresses a lot. Huntsmen are men that have their license to hunt Grimm and Huntresses are women that have their license to hunt Grimm.” I added.
Jett looked at me questioningly. “Do you have a weapon and sem-whatever?”
“Semblance. Yes, I do. In fact, I have two Semblances, which is unheard of. One, I can control gravity. Making it heavier, to make it very difficult to move or even crush enemies, or so light they float in the air and can’t move. The second is glyphs. Those are kind of difficult to explain. I’ll show you later if you want to see them. And my weapon is a Naginata that can change into two bearded axes. But one more thing. The way they choose teams is by launching new students off of a cliff into a forest with Grimm in it. You have to fight through the Grimm to the ruins of a temple and take a relic. Everyone has to learn beforehand, what they call, a landing strategy. I can help you with that. So, there is no reason to worry about that part.”
All three looked at me like I had just crawled out of a swamp. “I don’t know about Crystal and Willow, but I don’t like the idea of being 'launched’ off of a cliff!” Jett explained and the other two were nodding in agreement.
I held back a laugh. “I said I can fix it, so you have some powers, and one of those powers is the ability to fly.” They were still staring at me like I was crazy. “Honest. Okay I’ll prove it to you.” I stood up, paused a moment and shift into a small titanium dragon. After a couple seconds I shift back to human. “Ta da. And that is just one of the things I can do and can give you the ability to do. Although I’m probably not going to give you the ability to shapeshift. But I’m not sure about that.”
Taima jumped in. “He’s right, he can do that and a lot more. I understand that he can give any of the abilities or powers he has to anyone he wants too. He can even give each of you a Familiar/Companion.” She raised her hand and wiggled her fingers in a wave, indicating she was my Familiar. “But he’s a little leery about doing that. Not that he doesn’t trust any of you with one. It’s just there would be a LOT of animals in the house.” She turned and looked at me. “But as long as they are small, they can stay in the Pet Park. That way they wouldn’t take up much room in the house.” She finished, more to me than the girls.
I shrugged my shoulders. “Maybe, I’ll think about it.” I told her and to the other three girls. “As I said, I can give you the ability to fly, without shapeshifting. So, when the initiation takes place. We can stay together. All we have to do is figure out, who will be who’s partner. And that won’t be that big of a deal.”
Jett leaned towards me. “Can I be your partner? I really want to be your partner. Please?” She was almost pleading.
“No begging” I said to Jett, chuckling. “I guess so. We’ll all be on the same Team, so it really doesn’t matter that much. But yes, you can be my partner.” Jett smiled from ear to ear. “Crystal and Willow will be partners… if they are okay with that.” I looked at them and they nodded their heads, yes. I looked at Jett. “You have to stand up for yourself and stand on your own two feet, because there will be times you’ll have to fight on your own. As well as work as a team.” I pushed my chair back and stood up. “I think it’s time to go swimming. Who else is interested?” Without waiting for an answer, I headed to the beach with Taima and Kangee beside me. “Taima, can you pop in and get some towels for us?” I asked her, knowing she’d do it.
Taima hit my arm with her fist. “Lazy bum. Making ME do all the work.” She said as if I made her do everything.
“Someone’s got to do all the dirty work.” I retorted with a grin. With that, Taima headed into the house to get the towels. Willow, Jett and Crystal caught up with me. Kangee took my arm in both hers as we walked to where the others were on the Beach. “Tomorrow, I’ll get the papers you’ll need to go through. Take a day or two to look them over and let me know what you want. It shouldn’t take that long. I just want to give you time to go through them and make your choices.”
I heard, “Ok” and “Yes”, from them.
Still walking to where the other girls were on the beach and in the water. Willow stepped closer to me. “We will still be on the same team if you and Jett are partners, correct?” She asked me.
I heard, In coming. In my head and half a second later Taima ported in, in front of us. There were screams of shock and surprise and we all jump back.
“Don’t do that!” I said putting my hand up to my chest, my heart pounding a mile a minute.
“I gave you warning.” Taima said grinning.
“Ya, half a second before you popped in. No time what-so-ever to prepare for you to port in. Or to let them know you were porting here.” The four girls were giving her dirty looks and grumbling.
Taima looked at the five of us. The grin on her face fading. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to upset you like that.” She said sadly.
“It’s ok, just give me at least three to five seconds warning. That way I can warn anyone with me that your porting in. And you won’t scare the pants off anyone that way. Or give me a heart attack.” I put my hand over my heart and staggered around a little as if I was having a heart attack, like Fred Sanford would do on “Sanford and Son”. I gave her a hug to reassure her. Then Taima handed everyone a towel. And we walked over to the others and spread the towels out.
Looking at Willow and answering her question. “Yes, we can be on the same Team.”
“Good.” Willow said smiling, then headed off to play in the water.
I noticed Amber a little way away. She had decided to go topless along with most of the other girls. And no surprise, Taima, stripped naked. But then with her being an animal, she saw no reason to wear clothes if she didn’t have to. Kangee watched Taima, then looked at me. I shrugged my shoulders. Kangee stripped down to her birthday suit, giggled and joined in playing in the water.
After a couple hours playing in the water and sand, we headed back into the house to rest and start settling in.
Before going to bed. I checked the closets of both master bedrooms. I was sure there should be money here somewhere. Or the local equivalent of money. The closet of the second master bedroom had several boxes in it. I opened the boxes and found thousands of round wooden discs. One side had numbers on them, 1, 2, 5 or 10. The opposite side was marked with different symbols. Some had harps on them, others had an anvil on them, there was also, a bull’s head, a fish, and a few others. There were thousands or even tens of thousands of the local Pern money, what they called Marks. We probably would not need to work here to have money, for a long time. But that was beside the point. We would be working anyway, to make money and to have something to do. Growing fruit trees and raising cattle, or what they called heard beasts. And shortly we would set up the radio station. It is good to be doing something with your life, even if you don’t need to or have to.
The boxes of Marks is part of the money I was supposed to get from one of the CYOA’s. Part of that money was in my banking account back on Earth. And there should be more money on Remnant.
Not that I didn’t trust the girls, I just wanted to keep the money/Marks in a safe place. I put the Marks in one of my Pocket dimensions for safe keeping. I did put some in what I call my closet dimension. It’s a small closet sized pocket dimension I can use to store things that I want to have easy access to.
I started by going between Remnant and spending time on Pern, building up my Hold. After my Team and I learned to fight Grimm at Beacon Academy I decided to go to Monster Musume, Daily Life of Monster Girls and to "Is it Wrong to Try to Pick up Girls in a Dungeon." To see what I could do to help out Kimihito and Bell Cranel and Hestia. So, the Next place I will be going to will be Japan to help out Kimihito. After I get settled in there, I will be spending time at Orario to help out Bell and his 'goddess' Hestia by joining the Hestia's Familia and killing monsters in the Dungeon.
