Lore dump:

Kiyo grew up in a remote village, located in Hokaido's mountainous region. There was a sealed kishin there, though weakened it can still cause real harm to the locals.

The chief unleashed the seal and fed it with cattles to ask for favors. All of his fiddle faddle wishes (like better health, stay young came true) but little did he know the thing is a master of mind control, none of his wishes actually came true.

The more greedy his wishes get, the more he's willing to sacrifice human lives to it. Gradually it gained enough power to made it’s way into other villager’s mind.

A few years after the seal was broke, a pair of twins was born and they possessed a good amount of spiritual energy. The kishin wanted their lives but it patiently waited for them to grow, observing and teasing them in the process.

When the time came, it harvested the older twin first, replacing her spot in the family. The younger twin was devastated, so did her parents, they tried to expose the impostor but everyone thought the family went crazy.

They were led to a temple only god knows when it was built since there was no such thing in their village. Her father, the strongest living man of the village attempted to fight back but was outnumbered and killed right then, her mother follow suit.

She snapped, her rage bursted and so did her power. The little girl got no idea how to harness it but she was good with a knife. Just like how her father had taught to cut a deer's throat, she pierced through the entire villagers and cut them all down. The more they tried to stop her, the more they fell, the more powerful she gets. All that left was the culprit left standing, the village chief, he tried to call for help but the line was cut.

Eventually her knife made it to the kishin. You can't kill a thing that's never lived, like when your were done preparing deer meat, you eat it.

The village chief's call for help was answered, though a little late. A group of sorcerers made it to the village and found only one remaining survivor.

As of 2017, Rory has been in a long term relationship with Captain John Price of the SAS and TF141. Having served together on a mission where he acted as her commanding officer while taking down a Russian oligarch, they grew close after spending time holed up together in a safehouse. That hadn’t been the first time they met, however. In 2012, they had initially hooked up for a quick romp in the stall of a bar’s toilets thinking they would never see one another again. 

Since then, the two soldiers have moved in together in Rory’s London townhouse and got engaged in early 2023. Their wedding rushed to an elopement in 2024, where they went to Russia and only Nik and Kate were in attendance due to the still looming issue of Price’s assassination of General Shepherd in cold blood.

Biography

Rory was born an only child in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada on September 5, 1988. She was a child who had been given the world on a platter and had no reason not to succeed no matter what she put her mind to. Kind and gentle, she was the kid on the playground that made sure everyone was included. With a gift for being witty even at a young age, she made friends very easily.

Always a good student, Rory was well-liked by her peers and teachers alike, known for being active and enjoying spending most of her time outdoors. She was considered an overachiever and took part in several extracurricular sports and activities throughout her school career.

In 1996, her parents divorced after a 10 year relationship, citing irreconcilable differences, though the split was amicable. Rory was raised by her mother afterwards in their home in North Vancouver so as not to disrupt her life, while her father returned to England shortly after the proceedings, starting his own legal firm with his prestigious, noble family name. While her relationship was strained with her father after the separation, Rory still spent her summers in the UK and often kept in touch with him the rest of the year.

In 2000, her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer – an invasive ductal carcinoma  or IDC – and while Debbie did seek out treatment, it proved to be a long, slow battle. The cancer ultimately spread to her lymph nodes, and resulted in her death in 2002. With no other family to act as guardian in Canada, Rory was sent to live with her father.

Enrolled in classes at the local secondary school in London to continue her education, it was expected she would easily keep up with course requirements. However with the upheaval of moving halfway across the world and the grief of losing her mother, Rory quickly fell behind in her studies and her grades began to slip. Barely graduating, she was left with little options for her future and enlisted in the military, preferring not to become a trust fund baby and live off her father’s name and reputation. A decision that her father greatly disagreed with.

Military Career

In 2006, Rory enlisted with the British Army and after her basic training was complete began her tour of Afghanistan where she served for six years. She became well-known for her calm under pressure, confidence with a weapon, and her courage. As a corporal she was awarded the King’s Medal for Bravery after completing a risky mission to save a portion of her unit who had been taken hostage by Al-Qaeda forces.

During this time she was also recommended by her commanding officer to take part in the Scout Sniper Course and joined a sniper platoon shortly after. 

In 2013, she was moved to Iraq to work with the NATO alliance during the civil war. This was where she met Lt. Andrew Owen and began working more closely with American Armed Forces. Her sniper training led her to be called upon to remove high value targets and resulted in her working more closely with the CIA and undertaking black missions. This was when she learned how to complete interrogations, something she seemed to have a knack for, always having a natural perceptive quality. 

In 2016, on one such black mission that had taken her into Syria, she was dealt a major blow when intel proved to be incorrect regarding the shipment of weapons and instead uncovered a human trafficking ring. The trauma of the incident resulted in Rory’s PTSD. Due to her symptoms, she was taken off active field duty and placed on desk duty instead, which resulted in her being transferred to SRR with her skillset. Her focus became anti-terrorism both at home and abroad, working as an analyst regarding scouting missions.

Her time out of the field didn’t last long however before being volunteered for a joint CIA/SAS mission in 2017, headed by Kate Laswell and Capt. John Price. (The events can be found in the fanfic “All Along the Watchtower”)

During the events of COD:MW, Rory was a sergeant with the SRR, called in after the attack on Piccadilly Circus by Laswell and Price to deal with the AQ threat, a group she had been observing during this time as part of her work. Arriving in Urzikstan after the invasion of the US Embassy, she assisted with removing the Wolf, interrogating the Butcher, and destroying Barkov’s gas lab. (The events can be found in the fanfic “Evening of Score”)

In 2020, Rory began her officer’s training at Sandhurst and was ranked up to Lieutenant. It was shortly after this that she was added as a member of Task Force 141.

Backstory

Born in Nova Scotia, Canada to immigrant muggle parents, Paisley grew up in a small fishing village just on the outskirts of a port city. Because of this, she spent many days on fishing vessels with her father and older brother, while her mother worked as a teacher at the schoolhouse in town. When she was eight, her mother fell gravely ill and unfortunately passed away from complications of scarlet fever. Her father, Pierre, often struggled to balance work obligations with raising Paisley and Mathieu, and more often than not her older brother was left responsible, which caused her to develop a great deal of independence.

Being from a non-magical family, Paisley's magic was a startling discovery. It revealed itself when, while arguing with her brother, she made a milk bottle spontaneously explode in frustration. The following morning, two members from the Ministry for Magic arrived, explained magical abilities to her and her family, and promptly enrolled her in the Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

She was sorted into the Horned Serpent house, based on her high level of intelligence and ambitious, goal-oriented mindset.

Paisley excelled in her studies, her hunger for knowledge consistent, and while graduating from her fifth year she was recognized for her advanced magical comprehension. She was hand-selected by the Minster for Magic himself to take part in an accelerated graduate program at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry, and with great excitement she transferred at the start of her sixth year. Having researched the Hogwarts houses before her arrival, she anticipated being sorted into Ravenclaw... however the mysterious rumours about the Slytherin house fostering several dark wizards in history captivated her curiosity, and thus the sorting hat placed her there instead.

- Teleportation — a rather important ability for her in the context of her profession, but it’s a lifeline and freedom for her also. It helps her to confuse, manipulate and otherwise get past people, but she will sometimes teleport to some other city or locale she has previously visited for a fun day trip or something

- Flame magic — she likes the drama and grandeur of it, using it for flair or to intimidate people. In addition, she uses her flames for seemingly minor things, such as for light, igniting campfires, lanterns/other controlled fires, roasting meat and so on so forth.

Eshani is the type of person that naturally draws people in, puts them at ease but all the while, they catch none of her personal life. Because she keeps herself highly guarded, for fear of anyone using her identity against her.

In the position she’s now in, her tendency to collect people’s secrets is a great advantage. She pulls strings around her, for better or for worse, her stubbornness and tenacity a double-edged sword.

For those that she favours most, she is a deeply loving, selfless individual. In the past ten years she’s been away from her loved ones, there has not been a day when they haven’t crossed her mind. She feels a great amount of guilt for abandoning them, but all the same she has a tendency of leaving her loved ones in the dark when she’s dealing with things, doing things on her own so she doesn’t have to worry about the people she cares about getting implicated.

To those looking in from the outside, she seems like a bright, intelligent, if a bit manipulative lady that also seems a touch haphazard. She has a tendency of shifting mid-air or mid-movement, pulling stunts such as jumping off high places and sometimes teleporting straight behind someone. The more comfortable she is around someone, the more likely she is to be spontaneous and mischievous.

Relationships

Cerigo Verasse: estranged lover, the pair were friends before they realised their love for each other had a romantic edge to it. Unfortunately, their romance was fairly short-lived as Eshani saved him from who turned out to be the High Councillor who preceded her. Though they tried to keep in contact afterwards, Eshani stopped once she realised she could be putting her family in danger.

Cheyoria Faison: her daughter, the girl was five years old when Eshani left. Just the mention of her is the quickest way to make Eshani vulnerable, she loves her more than anything. What little memories she does have with her, she treasures dearly, and the guilt she has is a big part of what drives her desire to leave Morilaste.

Claudia Emar: fellow High Councillor, these two trust each other but don’t. They share a mutual respect for the power and competency of the other, wary and reticent to become each other’s enemies. Therefore, they choose to keep a close, cordial rapport, but yet neither can breach the other’s heart. Their dynamic is deeply professional, yet somehow more.

Namon Darüven: another of her fellows, but their rapport is much warmer. The two of them consistently banter with each other, keeping each other at arm’s length, yet the chemistry between them is undeniable. And Eshani hates that. From the first time they met, Namon’s sought a more deeply romantic and physical bond between them, but Eshani can’t bring herself to do so. Though she’s estranged from Cerigo, in a court where word will not get out past its borders (or at least, any such words are depicted as exaggerations, fairytales, hearsay, etc), indulging Namon’s desires feels to her as if she’s wronging Cerigo. So she only indulges him in literally anything and everything except physical touch. (Well, except that one time she let him kiss her, as a sort of “there, are you pleased?” situation)

She has the build of a model; she’s tall, slender, and fast on her feet. She exudes this fluidness, this grace in her movements, yet unpredictable as a flame. Not a single stutter in her steps, movements nor in her magic, she naturally draws the eye just by her existence.

And this especially goes for her true form. Most of the time, she prefers to walk around in human form because it makes communication easier, it doesn’t greatly intimidate people and thus she doesn’t have to feel so self-conscious. But unfortunately for her in that aspect… her true height is way taller than the standard person (thanks to the effects of Morilast’s Mark) and though she’s long adjusted to that, she’d still give it up in a heartbeat.

She has flowing blonde hair that she normally keeps down, but she will sometimes tie it up in a bun or a high ponytail or something, depending on her mood, what she’s wearing, etc. She has a pair of phoenix hair pins, where each pin is half of the whole. They’re long pins, so she’ll sometimes just use one instead of both.

Despite her affinity with flames, her eyes are a deep shade of green, which she’ll not change tremendously often unless her outfit calls for it. Her skin is as pale as the clouds, her face sharp and delicate, and her hands are not adorned with jewellery. In fact, she normally doesn’t wear it, not even earrings. She also only has one tattoo, on her upper back, and that’s the very Mark that binds her.

Mordecai often carries an air of gloominess, with a straightforward, no-nonsense, and serious demeanor that makes him stand out. His blunt honesty can be disarming; he speaks with a brutal and stoic frankness that leaves little room for pretense. Most of the time, his expression is flat, giving him a perpetually bored or tired look. However, he does have a sharp wit—he can be delightfully sarcastic and sassy when the mood strikes him, not hesitating to put someone in their place or brush aside their words with a casual indifference.

Despite his tough, cold, and stoic exterior, Mordecai presents himself as jaded and reclusive, yet emotionally vulnerable at times, revealing layers of pain beneath his tough exterior. The massacre of his entire family left him scarred with deep-seated trauma, instilling in him a lingering fear of losing anyone he cares about. This tragic event has also fostered a profound distrust and disdain for demon hunters, whom he blames for the chaos that shattered his life. As a result, he has retreated into a solitary existence, often seen as a lone wolf, shunning emotional connections and shutting others out in a bid to protect himself from further heartbreak.

Without a reference, the glamour can deviate from its intended appearance, resulting in a surreal distortion that is often grotesque and far from what was envisioned. Low Blood Iron: Mordecai can’t overuse or rely on his blood magic too much, due to having low iron in his blood cells, and he could pass out or get sick from blood loss, which is why he keeps potions on him at all times when he uses his blood magic.

Disclaimer: I chose the name Bàoyìng for his hometown based on my recollection of the concept of moral and cosmic reciprocity. I've since been informed there is an actual province called Baoying in real-world China, which I somehow missed in my research! My apologies for any confusion I've caused in the process, that was not my intention, I was lacking information. His hometown isn't meant to be a 1:1 mirror parallel for the real-life province.

Driven by and passionate about his desire to improve disability aids. This is a constant focus of his due to the eye conditions that tend to crop up in his family, and is one of the original reasons he has for attending NRC.

His other major reason for attending NRC was hearing the news Idia Shroud would be attending, and he insisted it was that or nothing, determined to eventually work alongside Idia to personally drive himself to improve his own tech.

Untreated ADHD, and he's completely unaware of it. As far as he's concerned, he's normal.

Introvert who doesn't understand how he keeps acquiring more friends. That said, he never tells someone when they become his friend, he just starts showing up as your Scary Dog Privilege.

A little list of OC questions based on the folklore of winter greenery in Northern Europe. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all symbolic meanings, but rather just a small selection for entertainment, rather than educational, purposes.

Fir: Endurance and Hope.

Is your OC generally optimistic about the future?  Or do they tend to prepare for the worst, whilst hoping for the best? Or do they even take a generally pessimistic view of the way things will likely unfold?
