He becomes very good friends with another character, and I was wondering how they could help him if he was suffering from especially bad nightmares or something like that? They are both very young, only 9 years old and he has been an assassin since he was 4 (2/2)—-

Honestly the thing that draws my attention here is not the trauma related aspects, but those ages.

I watch a 4-year-old. I’m not sure a 4-year-old can be an assassin. 

I really encourage you to think about what goes into assassination and what skills children have. Check out the cdc or other lists on fine and gross motor skills, not to mention keeping an eye on problem solving skills.

Which isn’t to say he couldn’t have been involved at that age range, as much as it horrifies me to think about. Whether through distraction or clean up or even possibly being manipulated into participating in the killing a -subdued- individual. is going to have an entirely different set of skills at hand than a 9 year old who has never had difficulties going to bed

is going to have an entirely different set of skills than someone who grew up in an abusive situation and learned ‘being loud gets you hurt.’

My niece is 9. She’s been in therapy for most of her life- most of it of the occupational variety (she was a bit delayed in her gross motor skills. So think less ‘talk therapy’ and more ‘adult encouraging her to do different physical tasks who is trained at knowing which tasks help the most/lead to new kinds of movements’) but also some traditional therapy.

She’s also known me all of her life. She knows ‘go for a walk’ means ‘I am in a bad place and need to get to a good place’ and she knows how to count down from five to calm down because she watches me do that and she’s had me do it for her.

The little girl I am watching? Already knows ‘reset’ which basically means she goes and sits in one place for a while, we have a conversation and then she goes outside. She’s only four (though, she is closer to five).
