#Ngl the only ships I'm like actually invested in are Sol/Jack-O'/Axl or Sol/Johnny lol

Hot take, but I'm in the minority that doesn't ship SolKy as most of the fandom is.
It's more of the fact I'm more into KyDizzy than SolKy, but it's also because, for me, I'm just kinda tired of the same dime a dozen enemies/rivals-to-lovers gay ships that become popular in every fandom I've been in.
Add that to the fact these dynamics get hit with the yaoi flanderization beam and it worsens my interest in them even more.
Not to say SolKy is bad or anything, I respect people who ship them, but I just can't feel the vibe.
Oh, this is a lukewarm take hahaha Most people, at least on here, don't ship them in earnest (myself included). It died out pretty hard post-Overture and the very... "morality focused" part of the fandom made very sure that new fans knew it was "icky." I know there's like a solky server and all that, but you'd be very hard pressed finding a vocally supportive community for it on Tumblr these days. To be honest, when I first started archiving old solky fan works I was entirely expecting to get a nastygram about it lol
Sol and Ky's relationship is significantly more interesting from a rivals-to-begrudging-allies-to-friends perspective and putting them into a romantic relationship cheapens the impact of that, in my opinion. Your points about it often getting blasted with the yaoi beam are extremely valid too.
What I DO like about solky is that it's one of the best documented sources of fan works from the early (pre-XXSlash) fandom. There were more Livejournal groups, websites, doujinshi circles, and fan translators/scanlators entirely dedicated to this ship than there were for any other "major" ship. It's much easier to dig up and archive solky works than it is for, say, Sol/Axl or Ky/Jam.
I back up what I can because it, too, will be dust one day if someone doesn't keep those files alive a little bit longer. The lore may have eventually made it kinda weird, but people poured their hearts and time into making these. Even if they're boring or rancid as hell, I still think they're worth preserving
