  Yeni nesil kutup yörüngeli meteoroloji uydusu MetOp-SG’nin ilk “B” modeli fırlatma için yerini aldı. Airbus’ın Almanya’nın Friedrichshafen kentindeki uydu entegrasyon merkezindeki milimetre hassasiyetli bir vinç yardımı ile altı metre yüksekliğindeki uydu fırlatma sistemine yerleştirildi.

  Airbus tarafından İngiltere Stevenage’da inşa edilen fırlatma sistemi, uydunun görevi boyunca konumunu ve yörüngesini korumak için 760 kg hidrazin yakıtı barındırabilir ve en önemlisi, uydunun görev sonunda, uluslararası uzay kalıntı azaltma standartlarına uygun olarak Güney Pasifik üzerinden kontrollü bir şekilde yeniden giriş yapmasını sağlar.

  MetOp-SG programı, Avrupa Uzay Ajansı tarafından EUMETSAT iş birliği ile uygulanmaktadır. MetOp-SG uydu filosu, altı uydudan oluşuyor ve 2024-2045 yılları arasında kutup yörüngesinden meteorolojik gözlemlerin kesintisiz yapılabilmesini sağlayacak. Avrupa’nın yenilikçi yaklaşımından elde edilen kapsamlı veriler, gözlemleri hava tahmin raporlarını yeni bir standarda taşıyacaktır.

Kütlesi dört tonun üzerinde ağırlığa sahip her uydu, ayrı ayrı fırlatılacak. Uydular, ortalama 831 kilometre yükseklikte, MetOp güneş senkron kutup yörüngesine yerleştirilecek. Her uydunun nominal çalışma ömrü 7,5 yıldır. Yedi yıl sonra, aynı serinin devam uydusu geliştirilerek her zaman yörüngede olan bir çift A ve B tipi uydu ile 21 yıllık bir süre boyunca bütünleşik operasyonel kapsama alanı sağlanacaktır.

  Bir MetOp-SG uydusunun 2024’ün başlarında fırlatılması planlanıyor.

  MetOp-SG, sıcaklık ve nemin gelişmiş kızılötesi, mikrodalga ve radyo-okültasyon sondajlarını;optik görüntülerden çıkarılan kutupsal atmosferik hareket vektörlerini; optik, milimetre altı ve mikrodalga spektrumlarındaki görüntüleyicilerden elde edilen yeni yağış ve bulut ölçümlerini; ve scatterometre gözlemlerinden çıkarılan yüksek çözünürlüklü okyanus yüzeyi rüzgar vektörü ve toprak nemi ölçümlerini sağlayacak. Bu veriler, bölgesel ve küresel düzeyde günlük hava tahminlerinin bel kemiği olan sayısal hava tahminlerinin iyileştirilmesine yardımcı olacaktır.

  MetOp-SG, her seride üç ünite olmak üzere iki seri uydudan oluşur. Uydu A serisi, optik cihaz ve atmosferik sirenler taşırken, Uydu B serisi mikrodalga enstrümanlarına sahiptir. A serisi uydular, Fransa’nın Toulouse kentinde Airbus’ın endüstriyel liderliği altında geliştirilmekte ve inşa edilmektedir. B serisi uyduların tasarımı ve üretimi ise şirketin Almanya’daki Friedrichshafen tesisinde yürütülmektedir.

  Airbus, uydu platformları ve enstrümanları için 160’ın üzerinde farklı ekipman ve hizmet tedarik etmek üzere 16 Avrupa ülkesinde ve Kanada’da 110’dan fazla şirketten oluşan bir sanayi konsorsiyumuna liderlik ediyor.
