Neptunium’s Diary, March 4th; EPQ presentation

Okay, just a quick one tonight, sorry guys.

If you’ve been on my blog for a while, you’ll know I do something called an EPQ. I’ve had a couple of rants about it before, so I won’t repeat myself. If you missed my last rants about it, here’s Day 4 of ND where I actually mention what the hell an EPQ is.

So today I had to do a presentation about my EPQ over Teams, and I was fucking nervous. I don’t do public speaking, and while this wasn’t exactly public speaking to its full extent (I was hiding behind a screen), I was getting marked on it, so it was pretty nerve-wracking.

That, and I only finished the powerpoint late last night. Like, late.

Like, 10 to midnight late.

Cuz I wasn’t sure if my media teacher was going to do the triple lesson, so I thought I’ll finish the powerpoint the night before cuz if I don’t, I’m going to have the triple lesson and my history teacher is going to be longer than he usually is.

But I didn’t have my triple (my teacher actually got the vaccine and wasn’t feeling too well, so he just set us some work and left us to do it. Perks of being a yr13, I suppose) and my history was only about 20 mins.

But knowing my luck, if I hadn’t finished the powerpoint, I would’ve had a full block of lessons.

So the only thing I did with it today was do some animations and... present it.

Which I did.

And apparently I did “really well”, so I didn’t completely fuck it up, which is good.

Now all I have to do is finish my essay and sort out the admin.

In... 2 weeks.

We can do it! I’m going back next week, some days I’ll be spending some frees at school, so I can do it then and do any extra classwork at home.

I know I said this was gonna be short, but I got a little carried away, sorry, heh.

Neptunium’s Diary, May 26th -29th: Job applications

So I've been applying for part-time jobs, and almost every one I look at wants past retail experience.

Which, unsurprisingly, I don't have, cuz guess what?

I was a student for 13 years. We don't exactly get much downtime, if any.

So I was applying for Aldi, and I had to go through an hour's worth of questionnaires, only to find at the end they wanted past experience.

Not only that, but they made past employment a required field.

So I wasted an hour of my time for nothing. Why couldn't they have put that thing at the front so you know whether or not you're gonna waste your time?

And why don't places recruit students? Why do people need like 5+ years of retail experience to stock shelves? Why can't they actually train people, they have to anyway cuz all tills are different.

I may just end up taking up that volunteer opportunity for Oxfam. May not be paid but at least it's retail experience for when I try to find at job at uni.

Ugh.

Anyway, sorry for the rant, I was just angry.

Neptunium’s Diary, Feb 14th; Valentine’s Day

If you’ve been on my blog long enough you’ll probably know I’m aroace in some way.

If you’ve been on blog long enough you’ll also probably know I have no clue where exactly on the spectrum I am, so for now I identify as demi-aroace. If I get proved wrong, so be it. It’s not a huge thing that’ll change.

I’m either full aroace or demi-aroace. It’s just a matter of working out which one I am, and to do so I need to... talk to people.

Ew.

So Valentine’s Day. Honestly, what’s the point? It isn’t a day of love, it’s a day of commericalism and peer pressure forcing you to ‘prove’ your love to your partner, and if you forget to buy an overpriced box of chocolates or one of those teddy bears with those big red hearts saying ‘I love you’, well, you’re not worthy of your partner. You obviously don’t care about them. 

Honestly, give me the chocolate and the sweets any day. Literally any day.

Now, I’m not adverse to romance. It just isn’t everything, and there’s a lot of commericalism around this day, almost as much as Christmas or Easter, and to single people, or aro-spec people, it can be very suffocating. 

There’s also a huge amount of soical and media-based pressure around romance. Loads of stories end in romance. Yes, we’re moving out of that mindset now, but it’s still a huge part of the plots of stories. Sometimes it’s just nice for a media product to not be based around romance and sex. Appeal to your sex- and/or romance-negative/adverse audinces.

Ya catch my drift?

Again, I don’t hate VD, I don’t hate romance. I just think there’s far too much pressure put on around VD and there’s so much peer pressure around it and just calm the fuck down. Linda isn’t gonna leave you just cuz you forgot to get her the overpriced heart chocolates for VD. Buy them afterwards when they’re on sale. It holds the same meaning.

Neptunium’s Diary, Feb 10th; Doors

Yet another relatively lazy day...

I mean I had two lessons, but other than that....

Even after ‘school’, I didn’t do much, just read some articles about uni and watched some Lucifer episodes (I am addicted, yes)

Anyway, my first lesson today was at 10 am, so I set my SleepCycle alarm for 8.30-9.00 instead of 7.30-8.00.

But what happened is my phone alarm went off at 6.30 as usual, I turned it off and went back to sleep.

Then someone knocked on my door. Panicking, I looked at the time, thinking I’d overslept and was gonna be late for my lesson.

It was 7.50.

I tried to get back to sleep, but I was already too awake so I read fanfiction for an hour then I went and had a shower.

I assumed my dad had knocked on my door, not knowing my lessons started later today, but when I asked my parents about it, they said neither of them did it.

Dad suggested it was the wind (tho why we would have windows open in the middle of February when it’s snowing outside in order for this to happen is beyond me) and my mum suggested it was ‘my’ poltergeist.

Which, honestly, makes the most sense.

Though I suppose it could just have been my mum closing their door and since my room’s at the end of the hall, it carried down to my door and soundwaves did their thing at the first obstacle it found, aka, my door.

Anyway, not much happened today, so bit of a boring one, sorry guys. Just an amusing story.

Neptunium’s Diary, April 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th: Tests

So I've had to do more of those stupid self-test things, and the school wanted us to three over the holidays.

My question: What's the point?

Sure, some people might go out and be in contact with others over Easter, but nothing opens til tomorrow, so the only places they could meet up would be in open-space areas and not for long.

So again I ask; what's the point.

Especially for yr11s and 13s who'll probably be inside revising (hah) for the exams- sorry, 'assessments'- next week anyway.

So yeah, useless waste of time.

Anyway, 'assessments' start tomorrow, so fun.

Can't wait.

Neptunium’s Diary, March 30th and 31st: Holidays and update for tomorrow

Not gonna be much of an update guys cuz nothing’s happened

But one thing I want to say is tomorrow is April Fool’s Day, and I’m gonna issue a quick warning for the Mishapocalypse 3.0 tomorrow.

If you don’t want to see various depictions of Misha Collins, don’t log into Tumblr tomorrow.

Neptunium’s Diary, March 12th, 13th, 14th and 15th; EPQ and Sleeping

Yes I know I’m like 4 days late, but I’ve been incredibly tired. It’s probably because I’ve gone back to school so the sleep schedule I had for online lessons is no longer sufficient. Instead of getting up a 8.30 earliest, I am getting up at 7am in order to leave for 8.20 to get to an 8.45 form.

Well, that’s for 9am lessons. Which is what I’ve had for the past 5 schooldays.

To be fair, Wednesday wasn’t a 9am lesson, it was a 10am, but I had to be in for 9 cuz they wanted to do an ‘assembly’ about the new things around school (spoiler: there were none so it was a waste of time). But the other days were 9ams, and I have one tomorrow and Thursday. Wednesday is another 10am, so I’ll get a little of a longer lie-in, but not much. Friday is the day I’ll get a much longer one as my only lesson is 2pm.

Anyway, guys break out the fuckin’ champagne as my EPQ essay is finally done! The last things to do now are finishing up the production log and literature review, which I will start tomorrow. But the biggest pain in my ass is fuckin finally done and I am so happy.

Anyway, that’s gonna be it for today. I’m sorry it’s so short, but I am still really tired and I don’t think you’ll want to hear Neptunium’s exhausted rambling. Hope you enjoyed and I’ll you guys tomorrow!

Neptunium’s Diary, March 5th; Covid test and gates

So I had to do a Covid test today for my school (we’re going back in on Wednesday) and it was really uncomfortable.

Like some people were really dreading it and I was like “I survived my EPQ presentation yesterday, this’ll be nothing” and it was super uncomfortable but that was all it was.

And annoying.

For some reason the government wants schools to test pupils and staff to reduce the spread of the virus and its like, okay, but why don’t you just give the teachers the vaccine? Y’know, instead of wasting time and money on trival tests.

Most’ll come back negative cuz people get a test as soon as they notice symptoms, like they used to. 

It just doesn’t make sense to me. Why not give teachers the vaccine before re-opening the schools?

I mean, even better would be to give students the vaccine as well, but since the government is hyper-fixed on giving over-50s the vaccine. My group (18-25) is the last group listed on the BBC News website, yet 18-50s are the ones more likely to come into contact with the virus.

In my opnion, the vaccine should’ve gone to NHS and healthcare workers, teachers and other essential workers, those with underlining health conditions, then students and young adults, then move up through the age brackets and leave the older people to the end since everyone else will have been vaccinated.

Heard immunity, Boris. Heard immunity.

It’s easier to keep 70-odd-year-olds inside than it is kids. Vaccinate the young first and get them out, then make your way up to the oldies.

I’m not saying sacrifice the old people, I’m just saying if the government wanted to get schools open by mid-March, they should have vaccinated the teachers at least.

Moving on, my school has decided to put new gates up.

Now, these aren’t front gates at the front of the school, no, these gates are on school site.

They’ve put a fence along the front of our sports block, which is near our main carpark, for absolutely no reason.

I can’t see a use for them, they’re blocking the path from the piazza to the front gates, they’re forcing people to crowd closer- the complete opposite of social distancing-, and to top it off, those gates aren’t cheap. The school could’ve spent the money on something much more useful, like fixing the heating in some of the older blocks, or getting better equipment for different departments, or just putting it into something to properly benefit the students.

Now the school just looks like a prison.

Bit of a rant today guys, sorry. I was just annoyed, mostly about those fucking gates.

Neptunium’s Diary, March 2nd and 3rd; Cub meetings

Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about this- well, I did, but by the time I remembered it was like 11pm and I was tired so I decided to keep it for today so I can talk about my Cubs meeting.

So I will!

If you’ve been on my blog for any length for a few months, you’ll probably know I’m an Assisstant Cub Leader, which is just a fancy way of saying I help run Cub meetings. I’m the run who does the admin and badges for my Cub Pack, that is my role in the Pack. I’m the badge person.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s an important job, especially for the kids, but that is my job. I hand out the badges.

Which is kind of hard to do when we’re doing Zoom calls, but some have managed to get badges. Mostly Musician, but still they’re getting badges.

So today was a bit of a mashed-together night since our main leader had to go on a 1st Aid course, our GSL unfortunately has corona so his son is setting up the meetings and I assume doing the register (I did one anyway so I’ll update my Pack tomorrow) and we were missing one of our usual leaders, so it was just me, our GSL’s son and another one of my Pack’s leader (we have 3, one of whom was on the 1st Aid course).

On Friday, the main Pack leader called my dad up while we were watching the FE celebrations, and told me he wasn’t going to be on and asked if I could make a quiz for the Cubs.

I already had one, so I was like “yep, that’s fine”, and me and mum made a second one just in case.

So we had a general knowledge quiz and a Disney quiz.

Both of which we used.

What is quite interesting is I can see people’s answers and more people knew “spelen” was Dutch for “to play” than they did what the flag of Singapore looked like.

And I’m not sure how to feel about that.

On one hand, it’s great they either knew that Dutch, or were able to figure it out, but on the other hand, I was disappointed they didn’t know the flag.

But, maybe they’ll know it in the future?

Ah, who am I kidding? These guys are British. We hate everyone else.

Neptunium’s Diary, Feb 25th; Pet peeves

Ironically, as I was writing this, Tumblr crashed and lost my progress on this part.

Guess what else is a pet peeve?

So, instead of writing everything back out, I’ll cut to the chase.

One thing that’s sure to annoy me is someone taking the room I want to be alone in for, what, half an hour at most?

These past two weeks, it’s been the kitchen, usually the kitchen at 8.30am.

And usually, it’s my dad.

(My dad, who is retired and doesn’t need to get up at 8.15, yet still does)

He’ll try to talk to me and I’ll be like ‘I haven’t eaten, I’m still tired it’s half 8 in the morning and I have a lesson at 9.’

This morning he asked me if I’ve heard ‘the good news’ (aka. the news about A-Level grades being teacher-given and the results day being moved forward to allow for appeals), and I was like ‘No, it’s half 8, I haven’t had any food nor anything to drink and I have media at 9. I just want to eat.’

So yeah, that’s one thing that annoys me (that, and Tumblr acting up)

Neptunium’s Diary, Feb 22nd; A Series of Unfortunate Mistimings

I’m gonna preface this by saying this isn’t my absolute worst day, I’ve had way worse, but today was pretty not-good. Not bad, just really not-good.

So it started with getting up. I knew I had a formtime this morning, so I set my alarm accordingly, and when I woke up, as with literally every morning, I make a few quick calculations to work out what my optimum and absolute latest get-up times are. I worked it out, decided optimum was 8.15 and latest was 8.30.

With that done, I went to reading for 15 minutes.

8.15 came, and as I was getting ready to get up, my dad went into the bathroom.

My dad, who is retired and doesn’t have to get up early.

It wasn’t the first time, and honestly, it’s on me. I should have learnt to get up between 8 and 8.15 when no-one is in the bathroom.

It wasn’t until 8.30 he came out (he had a shower) and by then I was pretty peeved, since I had to rush and forego small parts of my morning routine.

But that wasn’t what pissed me off this morning, no. That later time, coupled with the fact I couldn’t use the kitchen meant my breakfast was two granola bars.

I’ve gone on less, but I was very hungry this morning, and it had to last me over 2 hours until my English finished. It also meant I didn’t get my green tea, something I love to have during my classes cuz it’s warm and sweet and calming and it’s hydrating.

So throughout my English I was pissed. So pissed I barely took note of what my teacher was saying (it was about an essay we’re writing on Wednesday, I didn’t actuall miss a lesson, don’t slaughter me). I mean, I was so pissed I started ranting about Bibles to my friend. To be fair, it was history, and Tudors, so I have an excuse. That, and my teacher is incompetent when it comes to teaching.

Then, randomly, I got hiccups, which were on-off til about an hour ago (roughly 8pm), so, fun.

Then lunch rolled around. I had a lesson at 2pm, so I was hoping to get my lunch at 1.30-ish and watch some YouTube before my history lesson.

Guess what? I couldn’t get into the kitchen til 1.45.

Luckily, my lunch was toast and crisps, so it wasn’t like I was gonna take a long time. It was just annoying. Again.

But I blew off some steam with some YouTube, not that it mattered. History was revision anyway.

Then I had Cubs. They didn’t annoy me, I was just slightly frustrated with having to faff around to sort it out, and mum insists I log on like, 15 mins before it starts.

So it wasn’t a bad day, just frustrating.

Well, that’s it for today. I doubt tomorrow will be as eventful, heh.

Neptunium’s Diary, Feb 19th, 20th and 21st; Fanfiction writing

So, um, most of you probably know I write fanfiction. Like, a lot of fanfiction

Mostly F1, but also recently quite a bit of Midsomer Murders stuff.

My latest fic, Miracle, is my 42nd work on AO3. (I haven't updated my Wattpad in ages, oops, guess I should do that at some point).

But.. 42 works. In, what, 4 fandoms, I think?

Then again, I guess it's a good thing a hopeful creative writing student does a lot of creative writing? Even if most of it is angst...

Anyway, back to school tomorrow.

And by "school", I mean online lessons

I could do a whole why I like vs why I hate online lessons, but I think I'll save that for tomorrow so I have some content if nothing happens during "lessons" (and, looking at my timetable for tomorrow, you guys are either in for a goldmine or disappointment. No in-between)

I apologise, but there really hasn't been anything to talk about, and I like to give you guys content as well as routine, and sometimes you have to sacrifice one thing for the other, and I'd rather give you guys content.

Neptunium’s Diary, Feb 17th and 18th; Stories and ITV

You know a day’s boring when I forget to make an entry and instead of doing one to make up the day it becomes a joint entry-

Welp, like I said, half-term’s gonna be boring. 

I have had time to actually write though, so anyone who follows my AO3 may see a new story within the month. I just need to finish the first chapter and get my beta to read it and give it the stamp of approval.

But that’s really it. No special updates, no news, nil, nada, none.

Yeah, pretty boring.

Though, my dash has started getting more Destiel stuff on. Idk if it’s cuz I’m following a bunch of Spn blogs and it was the Destiel wedding on Sunday, or if Destiel’s gone canon again, but oh well. There’s worse things to be on my dash.

One thing that is bugging me though, is the fact ITV still aren’t airing the next two episodes of Midsomer Murders. It’s been over a year since the last episode was aired and S22 is well underway, plus the S21 DVD is coming out in June.

June.

Which is, what, 5 months from now?

Not long, ITV. Hurry up and show the episodes.

(Yes I know I can watch them on something like Dailymotion, but that’s not the point)

I’m just annoyed it’s taking them this long. When they first started showing episodes in order on ITV3, I thought it was cuz they were gearing up to show the new ones on normal ITV, but nope. They got to, I think, S16 then went back to S1.

Seriously.

At least this time I got to see some episodes they didn’t show the first time round.

They’re currently back on S9 at the moment, so if they’re doing a round tour of the show before showing the new eps, it may be another month or two before we get the rest of S21.

Can you tell I’m pissed?

Neptunium’s Diary, Feb 16th; Half-term

Half-term's kinda weird.

You feel great cuz you have nothing to do, but you also feel bored cuz you have nothing to do.

Normally we'd go away and stay in a YHA sometime during the half-term week, but obviously we can't this year.

I mean, I have an EPQ presentation to make and the essay to finish, so I do have some schoolwork to do (no subject-based stuff tho, slightly surprising but no less appreciated. Love not having lesson stuff to do)

And sure, I'm probably meant to be revising for whatever internal assessments the school wants to do for our grades, but why spend time revising the Mid Tudor Crisis when I could be writing or reading fanfiction?

Not that I've done much writing, but yesterday I did have a headache so I think I'm allowed that.
