Tamio Kawaji in The Warped Ones (Koreyoshi Kurahara, 1960) Cast: Tamio Kawaji, Yuko Chiyo, Eiji Go, Hiroyuki Nagato, Noriko Matsumoto, Kojiro Kusanagi, Chico Roland, Chigusa Takayama, Reiko Arai, Yoko Kosono. Screenplay: Nobuo Yamada. Cinematography: Yoshio Mamiya. Production design: Kazuhiko Chiba. Film editing: Akira Suzuki. Music: Toshiro Mayuzumi.  The Warped Ones ends with its bad-boy protagonist, Akira (Tamio Kawaji), and his prostitute friend, Fumiko (Noriko Matsumoto), laughing it up at an abortion clinic, amused that they are there with the virtuous Kashiwagi (Hiroyuko Nagato) and Yuki (Yuko Chiyo) because the former has impregnated Fumiko and the latter is pregnant with Akira's child. The Warped Ones belongs to a genre known as taiyozoku, or "Sun Tribe" films, portrayals of the undisciplined youth of postwar Japan. Among them are movies like Ko Nakahira's Crazed Fruit (1956) and three released the same year as The Warped Ones, Nagisa Oshima's Cruel Story of Youth and The Sun's Burial, and Masahiro Shinoda's Youth in Fury. But even hard-edged directors like Oshima and Shinoda couldn't resist putting a moral spin on their portraits of wayward youth. Kurahara could, and The Warped Ones is all the more fascinating for its willingness to see the world the way Akira sees it. Kawaji gives an amazing over-the-top performance in the role, never quite standing still for a moment. He doesn't walk, he dances, prances, skips, and contorts, and Yoshio Mamiya's camera swirls and jogs along with him, ever restless, ever kinetic. Even in closeups his face is constantly in motion, often with a cigarette stuck between his lip and teeth or in the corner of his mouth. He is the embodiment of a certain kind of existential freedom, so self-centered that he refuses, unlike his friend, Masaru (Eiji Go), to join a gang that might multiply his opportunities for mayhem. The only thing on Earth to which he pays obeisance is jazz, provided by Toshiro Mayuzumi's score. But even without punishing Akira for his considerable crimes, the film manages to make the point that he's no role model. Instead, he's an object lesson in the impossibility of achieving pure freedom.

TV Anime SELECTION PROJECT Releases Image Song MV Filled with The Girls' Sparkling Thoughts

    The official website for the forthcoming idol audition-themed TV anime SELECTION PROJECT has started streaming a 100-second music video for its image song "SELECTION HEROINE." The site introduces the song as " a song that contains the sparkling thoughts of the girls challenging the audition battle!"

  The song is performed by the franchise's nine-member VA unit 9-tie (pronounced cutie) and will be included in their first CD single to be released on October 27, 2021. The single also includes the anime's OP theme song "Glorious Days" and ED theme song "Only one yell."

      "SELECTION PROJECT" is a nationwide idol audition reality show held every summer, and is considered to be the biggest gateway to success for aspiring idols. The girls who have won the nine regional qualifying rounds across the country live together in a special facility for about a month during their summer vacation while challenging themselves in audition battles. Only those who make it through all the rounds and survive will be able to debut as idols.

  The TV anime is directed by Daisuke Hiramaki (WATATEN!: an Angel Flew Down to Me), alongside series composition writer Yuya Takahashi (Lupin The 3rd PART 4) and character designer Hirona Hirayama (Rent-A-Girlfriend). Doga Kobo works on anime production, while Dandelion is in charge of CG visuals. It is set to premiere in Japan in October 2021.

Nostalgia being a big component on what makes Jasmine, Jasmine, she prefers songs from decades past. She almost exclusively listens to ‘oldies’ in her spare time, usually through a portable cassette player or her record player at the Lighthouse.

Because Johto for me correlates so closely with Japan/Japanese culture, I also correlate the music of 70′s/80′s Japan to be the equivalent genre to her preferences. Thus, this playlist encompasses that sound.

Jasmine doesn’t really collect memorabilia, but she has a rather large record collection. She prefers the lossless sound of records over compressed ‘files’ any day. Which is perhaps the only “snobby” trait she possesses!

She has an absolutely stunning singing voice, as heard by both her Pokemon as well as several of the sailors that frequent the Lighthouse. Not many else know of this talent of hers.

Despite her preferences for older music, she is a fan of nearly every genre, as globe-trotting brought her in contact with various different styles. She enjoys rock music, as well as jazz.

L’idol talent show animato da Doga Kobo debutterà in Giappone nel corso di quest’anno.

Svelato con tanto di immagine di gruppo il cast principale di “Selection Project”, la serie animata dell’omonimo progetto corssmediale lanciato di recente da Kadokawa, che unisce idol, audizioni e reality show.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island Film Announces Release Date & Main Voice Cast

    The official website for the forthcoming new feature film Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island has announced that it is set to be released in Japan on June 3, 2022. An illustration to commemorate the announcement newly drawn by the film's chief animation director/character designer Atsuhi Tamura has arrived.

    The site has also revealed the film's eight main voice cast members, including Toru Furuya and Toshio Furukawa who reprise their roles as Amuro Ray and Kai Shiden from the original series, respectively. Hirotaka Suzuoki, the original cast of Bright Noah, already passed away in 2006, and Ken Narita, who has played Bright since Mobile Suit Gundam UC in 2014, is again cast as the character. And it is confirmed that Sleggar Law, a character who appears late in the original TV anime story, makes his appearance much earlier.

    As its title suggests, the film is based on the first Mobile Suit Gundam TV anime's 15th episode of the same name, which was aired in Japan on July 14, 1979. The episode depicted the melancholy of war through the interaction of the protagonist, Amuro Ray, with Doan, a deserter from the Zeon army. The film version tells that story again, using the latest visual technology, including CGI. The first series' character designer / chief animation director Yoshikazu Yasuhiko serves as director.
