STATUS: EXTREMELY FUCKED UP STAIRCASE IT'S NOT LIKE A NORMAL STAIRCASE IT'S CURLY >>> new team assemble! @howlighte , @galacticemperorsolaris , @cardhearted
“Yikes.”
Yikes is right. He wasn’t even prepared to fight ghosts with his own team, now he’s gotta battle the ghoul realm with this guy, that kid, and Jack. Davaa’s deadpan exclamation of dread and frustration did little to portray he was actually perturbed. He was at least 2% perturbed.
The following deep sigh did more to get across the exhaustion. He scratched the back of his head, then craning his neck to survey his immediate surroundings. More tacky architecture. Super!
Davaa cups his hands around his mouth as if about to shout. “YOOOOOO!” then he shouts. Just the three of them, and himself. “Huh. This sucks. Bet we're not even getting financial compensation, what if I develop a disease in 20 years?”

AFTER finding nothing of note from that ruined castle, leaving the area was a given but— the venture only led the group into another strange place.
the remains of a dead forest surrounds them. the path ahead was dark, decorated with dried leaves & torn off tree bark. utterly perfect for alerting anyone nearby of their location with just one misstep.
ortho did his best to assist by shining a light ahead for the group to see. reflecting on the path like bright flashlights from the android's eyes— it made the trek just a bit easier.
❝ ah— i see something ! ❞
ortho had mostly been quiet during their walk, but when he spotted an old backpack among the ruins he brightened up.
reaching down for the bag, the miracle was proven to be TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE when ortho's light highlighted another.
the owner of the bag, very displeased.

team 3: You Are (Not) at Soup. ♣️
TREY CLOVER manages to hold onto his hat for the descent, the only thing he has to his name as dignity falls in time with his body free-falling through the air for a landing most unfortunate. It's not the first time he's taken a tumble—three years and middling (by his own measure, if asked, and as far as anyone will know) ability to balance on a broom's made him no stranger to heights and the bruises and sprains that come with them—but this is the strangest one in recent memory.
It's only by quick thinking on impact that his glasses don't go flying off his face, but breath certainly leaves his lungs as Trey stays flat on his back for a good few minutes.
A few more, and eyes open to a world devoid of color.
"...Everyone alright?" When Trey pushes himself upright, something... crinkles?

Team one: Operation CastleGate
It felt like hours of stumbling along gripping his shoulder in pain while getting more and more annoyed. Maybe it was the lack of colour, Maybe it was how utterly generic fantasy this castle was or the fact the group found themselves at a castle door tasked to open an escape route for the other teams that had him getting angrier by each slow minute.
For now there were no guards here but none of them could be certain for how long. Chewing his lip in irritation he looked round to see if there was an obvious switch or something.
"We could just burn it down? Who cares about their shitty gate?" He scoffed, offering no helpful advice.

the final hour.
You don’t know how long you’ve been in the Ghost Realm. Time seems to unravel here and, with each new terrain that your team explores, a sinking feeling fills your gut. The search for the magestone seems to be a hopeless endeavor. Doubts have begun to fill your mind.
Does your team even know how to get back?
You think, perhaps it's time to turn around. The odds aren’t in your favor. It’s only time until your rations run out, until your team turns a foul path, and you find yourselves as fresh citizens of this realm. Screw the magestone!
You turn on your heels— Then, a bright light engulfs you.
You find yourself atop a castle bridge, the wind howling. It’s not as shocking as the first warp that you’ve experienced. What is shocking, however, is the increase of familiar faces around you. Your teammates, all of your schoolmates who’ve embarked on this dauntless task, have been gathered here. You stare at each other in astonishment, but the reunion doesn’t last for long.
“There they are!” You hear a shout from afar. On the other end of the bridge, a squadron of ghost-knights barge in. “Those are the living folk that have been terrorizing our citizens! Arrest them!” The knights begin to charge, everyone has no choice but to run.
The only exit throws everyone into the castle’s audience chamber. It’s grand, it’s spacious. There’s plenty of routes for people to run, plenty of objects to hide behind, but most noticeably–
“It’s the magestone!” You hear someone gasp. You turn your head around to the end of the hall, where the stone rests caged and atop of a pillar. It gleams beneath the firelight, a beautiful shimmer. You’re about to make a run towards it, but then every door slams open. More troops pile in. They begin to surround everyone— It’s time to think fast!
OOC INFORMATION BELOW THE CUT.
Somehow, you've made it to your end-goal, but you’re surrounded! In order to retrieve the magestone and escape safely out of the ghost realm, every team has been assigned one major task. Each group has been given a general prompt they must complete by the end of the event period. You’re all free to plot the interaction as you wish, or have your team roll a 1d20 to decide how successful they’ll be in the final stretch. Your muses may run into as many obstacles as you see fit— but, the job must get done!
TEAM #1: FIND AN ESCAPE ROUTE
The main entrance has been sealed, leaving you without a way out! As the rest of your classmates fetch the magestone and distract the guards, you should conceal your presence and sneak across the castle. Your objective is to find a way to operate the castle gate, or to find a new escape route. Don’t alert anyone of your presence…if anyone should become privy to it, make sure to silence them at once.
TEAM #2: RETRIEVE THE MAGESTONE
This is it. The moment of truth. All of your training has led up to this. NRU’s fate rests in your hands. No pressure, though. Just hide from the guards, get to the end of the hallway, bypass the different layers of security, and get that magestone out. All in a day’s work. Succeed through any means necessary. No need to sweat the fact that a single wrong move could botch this mission up.
TEAM #3: DISTRACT THE GUARDS
The ghosts have been alerted to your presence — there's no other way around it, someone has to act as bait. Unfortunately, you’re up! Try to get as many ghosts as possible following your trail in order to buy the rest of your classmates some time. Run across the castle, creating as big a commotion as you possibly can…remember, it's imperative you don't get caught!

-- RETRIEVE THE MAGESTONE!
At long last, The Ghost Realm Infiltration is now underway! (Please refer to this post for the event introduction.) The following list is the general rundown of the situation and what members participating in the event should expect over the coming days:
Participating muses have been split up into three teams of 4-5 characters each. Teams will navigate the ghost realm in search of the magestone and a way back to campus, running into different prompts and surprises along the way.
As previously mentioned during the sign-up period, the event will be run exclusively through minis, meaning replies should be succinct and straightforward, focusing on dialogue and action tags rather than internal monologue and descriptions. The maximum length for each reply is 150 words. This is due to the event being action and exploration-heavy, as well as to accommodate for the team’s size.
Every team will have their own OOC discussion channel in the directory’s server for ease of communication. You may use it to chat amongst yourselves, plot, and decide on your desired course of action. Each time is free to decide whether they want to implement a post order for their thread or not. However, please keep in mind that even if you don’t have a strict order, everyone in the team should’ve replied at least once before moving on to the next round of posts. If a team member hasn’t replied in 3 days, the rest of the team will be free to skip their turn. Similarly, if you wish to have your turn skipped for whatever reason, please inform your team so that they can continue the exploration at their leisure.
At the time being, each team is lost in a different portion of the Mysterious Staircase. Exploration prompts and event mechanics will be unlocked on Monday, May 1st along with April’s activity check. Teams will be able to roam freely from that point onward. You may use the next couple of days to set up a thread, decide on a post order, and get your muses’ initial reactions and interactions out. We also encourage you to pick a name for your team!
Additionally, one person per team should roll a 3d4 before Monday and tag the mods in order to determine the team’s starting inventory. .
Let us know if you have any other comments, questions or concerns in regards to how everything should be set up. For now, we hope we enjoy yourselves!
Please tag all event posts as nru: strikers. For more information about the event, please refer to NRU's discord server.

This was a clown fiesta… Rove could only Roll his eyes at Luciano’s gardening. Shield in hand He whistled at Sally to draw her focus.
"Come on... You're nothing more than a stupid Halloween prop just looking at you bores me!"
She turned to him as he braced himself shield up as the claws collided, he grimaced as his knees buckled slightly. How unexpected from the spirits? Pondering this realm it was almost impressive.
Deciding for a gambit he reduced the magic in his shield hearing it crack. Taking his chance to whip his magic pen, a string of frozen water magic shaped like a mace at Sally, grinning as it collided.
Rove Hits! Sally takes 1 point of damage!
The sound of shattering glass as claws broke through his shield, the magic dispersing as ghostly claws struck into his torso scrappin along his collarbone and shoulder with a cry he tossed her over his shoulder.
"NOW JINX!" Sally hits! Rove takes 1.5 points of Damage! Rove: 3.5/5 Hp
Continued from here @rove-bogge @thecoachman @silverknightpiece
Rove had a point but the way he made his point made Jinx get second hand embarrassment. Still though, he wouldn’t complain about going down instead of up.
The graveyard, while a change of scenery, was an unwelcome surprise. Why would the ghost realm have a graveyard anyway? It’s not like you could die twice. Suddenly, there was giggling a few rows over and Jinx felt a chill down his spine.
“Did you guys hear that?” Of course they did, “… Are we seriously about to check on some creepy laughter in a ghost cemetery?”

HEY THERE.
Ha, I’m really not good with these type of things—that’s no slight to you, but I’m a bit out of my element when it comes to surprises. I guess it helps keep our minds off the cold and keeps most of the student body from complaining too much about crowding into Ramshackle.
This is a nice assignment, though. I’m not one of your students, so we’ve only really spoken in passing. You do pretty necessary work, considering some of the student body. I don’t want to speak ill of my peers, especially not to a teacher, but I sometimes start questioning how people will survive once they’re no longer enrolled. It’s a shame the life skills courses tend to be neglected… although I guess I’m not any better, since I haven’t had the need to take any.
I am curious about something, though. I have relatives who are very big into Spelldrive, and I think I’ve heard through the grapevine you used to play? I help out when the inter-dorm tournament comes around, although I can’t say I’m really suited for it. I have fun when we’re trying to do pick-up games in my dorm, though, but I’m not a competitive person so I tend to get left behind. Any tips for this year’s, haha?
Sorry for rambling. I haven’t written a letter in a long time, actually. People do like the handwritten effort, though I’m sorry in advance for making you read my chicken scratch. It’s not pretty, but at least I’ve gotten pretty fast at taking notes.
I hope your day is as well as it can be in the winter time.
SIGNED,
???
Why, hello there, little sprout :)
I surely hope you are faring well; it'd be a bit concerning if you were not. I understand your sentiment with this event, however. I was rather surprised when Crowley told some of us faculty to join in. I decided to join in this exchange in earnest because it is a nice opportunity to meet some new sproutlings like you, pen pal! The day has been faring well, for the conditions it is.
It seems you understand my sentiments, my dear. The first year I've been here, I almost had to do a double take on why a person would not clean off their dishes, only to realize that someone else has been gathering way too much blot for what should be considered a parlor trick in glamour magic. My little class may not be the most exciting for everyone, but there is much to be learned, whether one thinks that they may or may not need it. Your penmanship, for example, leaves a lot of to be desired, yes, but I see potential in you yet. For one, it is legible. And for taking notes, it's very effective as is. Calligraphy talents would come soon enough.
Also, yes! I have used to be in Spelldrive as a striker for NRU, those were the glory days. Back then, I went by the title "Spellthorn" as I had a youthful appearance in my youth, but my striking abilities were exemplary. However, things happened and now I don't really participate in Spelldrive tournaments, though I make it a habit to always watch the games live or on TV, whichever is easier. I can't exactly say what this year will hold, but a universal tip that always seemed to be overlooked is to always stretch your legs before flying and to develop your core muscles if you work out outside of flight class. This will make sure you can stay on the broom for longer, especially when you do those hard corkscrews. If you're not as athletic, then stretching and minding your posture will help wonders for flying in general. After all, the person needs as much maintenance as the broom does. I would ask which dorm you are from to see your Spelldrive practices, but that would be revealing the surprise too early, and surprise letters like this should be cherished.
Ah, it seems I have also rambled quite a bit and in my teacher voice nonetheless, do forgive me. Hopefully I didn't bore you with this letter. I look forward to writing more letters with you, and if you have any more questions or wish to confide in something, don't hesitate to ask!
As for you, how about you tell me more about yourself? Anything holiday traditions that you enjoy?
Your wonderous professor,
Godel

THE END IS NIGH
TEAM 3, STARBURST CRUSADERS : @vipetriol, @hyaina, @troisfleur, @threadedwheels, LET'S GO!(one last time! )
everything happened in such a blur.
one moment, ortho was searching the contents of the forbidden laboratory alongside his teammates— then suddenly a bright light engulfed them, spitting them out onto a castle bridge.
when the android opened his eyes, cobblestone was underneath him. the wind whistled and howled like it was living…
and before he knew it–
❝ ARREST THEM! ❞
❝ IT'S THE MAGESTONE! ❞
ah shit.
…
the plan was relatively simple, at least for their team, all they had to do was distract the guards and buy everyone some time! only there wasn't much time to think things over– so ortho would do what he did best.
taking head of the charge, ortho could be found soaring through the air, blasting lasers at the castle walls. he would shoot holes in the wall, setting fire to or breaking several items in his path.
through the incoming ruin, ortho would shout down to his teammates. ❝ let's do what we do best, mess stuff up! ❞

Nru:Strikers team one the next phase
Continued from here @crossedtheline @silverknightpiece @thecoachman _____ The world blurred as the group was pulled from the cemetery. A mixture of monochrome and lights till it melted into a grey generic fantasy land and Rove spent a moment to wonder if he was in one of Idia's vr worlds.
Grasping his shoulder that was still bleeding he stared round in confusion he hadn't heard the tink tink of the can falling from Luciano's hand onto the floor till her stepped on it and instinctively felt his body fly forward as it rolled under his foot and he slammed into the grey dirt below with a hearty thump.
"....ow..." He wheezed in pain looking up to see one Ghostly maiden giving him some bombastic side eye and scoffing. Groaning as pain shot through his shoulder he tried to sit up dirt on his face. “I hate this….”

INFILTRATION DAY.
The Mirror Chamber, 5:00AM — The Mirror Chamber is a bustling sea of bodies and commotion. The morning sun had yet to dawn before you and your infiltration team were summoned here. A shrill voice is taking roll as drowsy students steadily trickle in. As names are being called, you notice a station of tables to the right. Several students, clad in Octavinelle uniforms, are handing out Mostro Lounge-branded lunch boxes for your mission. Next to them, another set of students are distributing scrying mirrors to each team. You feel a sense of overwhelm and the reality of events begins to dawn upon you: Today is Infiltration Day.
In a matter of minutes, you and your team will be sent off to the spirit realm.
You aren’t the only one who feels unsteady. Restless energy permeates the atmosphere: One student is anxiously practicing his casting skills, another is muttering protection incantations beneath his breath. Tension runs rampant in the atmosphere, but what can be done now? There’s no backing out of the infiltration— You’ve already signed the consent papers.
Soon, all teams are present in the chamber.
You are all lined up by number, huddled together in groups as you stare at the Dark Mirror. Headmage Crowley stands before the relic, giving a theatrical spiel of how proud he is of his students, and how it pains him to send them out into danger. He reminds each team to use their scrying mirror for communication and to be attentive to their surroundings; there haven't been many– if not, any– individuals who’ve come out of the spirit realm alive! Ten minutes of pep talk later, he ends his speech with one final command: Retrieve the magestone!
Each team is dispatched into the realm one-by-one. You watch as your peers disappear into the blinding light of the Dark Mirror, and feel your heartbeat erratically as your turn gradually comes. You swallow deeply, closing your eyes as you face the Mirror…. Then, you jump in!
When you open your eyes, you’re greeted by a monochromatic world. You’re taken in awe as you gaze at what lays before you: A beautiful stained glass window. Behind it, a luminous full moon. You feel goosebumps arise as you then tear your gaze away, turning your head to stare at an infinite spiral of staircases and arches. Then, you realize something.
You are not with your teammates.
The eyes that meet your gaze belong to students from different teams. As the confusion rises, one of you takes out a scrying mirror…. Only to realize that it doesn’t work. A dreadful silence settles among your new group as you think, now what?
....
WELCOME TO NRU: STRIKERS.

-- RETRIEVE THE MAGESTONE!
EXPLORATION GUIDELINES
Exploration of the Ghost Realm is now available! When you're ready, have your team roll a 1d7 and a 1d3 in your respective channels, then tag the @ Ramshackle committee role in the server. You will receive a location description, a prompt, and further instructions from a committee member. You should plot and RP the contents of the prompt in your group thread.
Teams should aim to complete 1 prompt weekly at minimum. You may do more if time and energy allows, but keep in mind all team members need to reply and participate for a prompt to count as complete.
Once you're done with a prompt, you can either spend time exploring or interacting with each other at your leisure OR you may roll for a new prompt.
In addition to rolling for prompts, every team may forage for supplies once a week. Roll 1d7 to do so.
As a small reminder, each reply should be 150 words at maximum, but because it's part of a larger event, each reply will count as a regular thread reply. Keep in mind that this does not apply to other non-event minis!
Happy roleplaying!
Please tag all event posts as nru: strikers. For more information about the event, please refer to NRU's discord server.

BEING ON A PIRATE SHIP should not have been such a bad outcome — after reading plenty of stories in his youth about the bandits of the sea, he was fond of them. exploring what was likely a true, sunken ship, there was some excitement behind his previously defeated eyes. it didn't last long, ears perking up to the sound of snapping wood. beneath their feet no less, it seemed that with all of the water damage, it couldn't possibly hold the living. crashing down into the lower levels, all they could do was pick themselves up & continue onwards. brushing off dusty, splintered wood from his uniform. " we can't catch a break. "
the area beneath the deck was void of the ghost realm's natural moonlight, leaving their entire team in darkness. jack's eyes adjusted quickly, before he was off of the ground. though, there wasn't much to see. no split paths, no decisions to be made, just one straight, dark tunnel, through the depths of the ship. " no point in stoppin' now. i'm gunna check it out. " keep up, or be left in the dust.
NEXT: @galacticemperorsolaris
galacticemperorsolaris:
Almost instinctively, Solaris raised his left hand for Ace to high-five. Call it a basketball club reflex. “Leaving right away would be a waste. Perhaps this ghost was guarding key clues as to where the magestone is.” He commented, looking at Jack as he also heard the chirp of birds. Before he could say anything he felt himself being transported, yet again, to another area of the ghost realm. Though he couldn’t quite make out where they were now, at first.
The fog almost seemed to dance unnaturally, giving him a glimpse of a long-forgotten ship, not too far off from where they were currently. He began walking towards it, with caution. After all, they had walked right into the librarian ghost’s hands, quite literally.
“This ship looks like it could fall apart at any moment. Let us proceed with caution. We have already sustained injuries from our last encounter.”
Next: @cardhearted
“Thanks for not leaving me hanging, unlike some people.” the redhead said, quickly glancing at Jack who was looking through one of the many books surrounding them. Ace was able to catch a twinkle of a mirror shard that was situated between its pages, before his surroundings changed once more.
His nostrils were met with a whiff of salty air, and his ears with the distant sound of waves. It took him a moment before he followed the rest of the group, trying to adjust to the new area. “All this teleporting is making my stomach turn…” he mutters, taking note of Solaris’ cautionary tone. The wood under their feet creaked as they ventured deeper inside, causing the first-year to feel uneasy. “This doesn’t sound goo-” he attempts to comment on a particular sound, but is cut off by wood cracking beneath them.
Darkness surrounds the group soon after.

everything happened so fast.
to blink, and suddenly have your teammates— your upperclassmen on the ground brought about a dizzying confusion.
but there was no time to be confused. that would only seal a gruesome fate - it would be foolish.
and ortho was not designed foolishly.
in a string of bad luck, after the spirit had successfully taken down jamil— its path of screeches and wails seemed to be heading straight for ember next.
in a quick effort, ortho charged forward, shooting out a laser from his palm.
ORTHO ROLLS A 12 AND 20 FOR DAMAGE: HIT for 2 DMG!
PAINTING GHOST'S HP: 0/3
ORTHO'S HP: 5/5
the stench of flames and burnt oils wasn't pleasant, but being killed wasn't anymore agreeable.
once the flames of the burning painting went down, ortho reached to help up his injured colleagues.
❝ let's go. ❞
hyaina:
Ruggie has no qualms following Ortho. If there was anyone on this team best equipped to march on towards unknown terrain, it was undoubtedly Idia Shroud’s robotic brother. Ruggie finds a sense of ease walking alongside their humanoid companion; as long as Ortho’s tech gear remains working, aren’t they practically indomitable?! Steely resolve lets the hyena trek onwards, taking on the infinite staircase until a vivid light pierces his eyes.
“Augh–!” He gasps, instinctively taking a step backwards. He nearly missteps, heel going past the ledge, and Ruggie’s mid-maneuver as a strong force suddenly grips him. It prevents the hyena from tumbling, yet successfully discombobulates him as he’s practically spun onto cobblestone. Ruggie nearly topples from the drastic shift of terrain, eyes flying open in shock– Then a body thuds besides him.
“T-Trey?!” The hyena yelps, barely processing what in the great Seven’s just happened, when he notices a specter charging at him from the ends of his vision. Quick reflexes enables him to wield his pen—
Ruggie rolls a 1: Miss!
Painting Ghost rolls a 14: 1.5dmg incoming! Ruggie’s hp: 3.5 / 5
—But he hardly has time to cast a proper spell as their assailant comes for him next. The ghost’s spell crushes his shoulder mid-cast. Ruggie’s thrown back as black paint-ooze splatters onto his uniform, the gale that he summons goes off-kilter. It whirls past the ghost and slices the painting behind it. The intricate portrait slams onto the ground, echoing into the abyss.
@threadedwheels / @vipetriol / @99lostsouls / @troisfleur
A morphing world. A dry thud. A stifled yelp. A gust of wind.
Trey is on the ground in the blink of an eye.
Jamil’s mind hasn’t quite caught up with the barrage of stimuli, but his body moves on instinct all the same— he doesn’t need another second to know they’re under attack.
Jamil rolls an 11 and a 9 for damage: Hit for 1 dmg!
Painting Ghost rolls an 11 and a 10 for damage: 1 dmg incoming!
Painting Ghost’s HP: 2/3
Jamil’s HP: 4/5
A fire spell cast on reflex finds its mark. The foul smell of burning oil paint rises into the air, and a shrill, inhuman wail reverberates across the castle’s stone walls. As it writhes against the frame it had presumably gone out from, the ghost seethes, now settled on its next mark.
Jamil prepares to retaliate, but the earlier soreness returns with a vengeance, sending painful jolts across his right arm. He’s half a second too slow in casting a defence spell, and the incoming strike sends him crashing onto the cobbled ground.
