How to Compete in Fantasy Football When Star Players Underperform?
Fantasy football is a dynamic game where strategy, timing, and decision-making play crucial roles. While having star players like Kevin De Bruyne or Harry Kane can significantly boost your chances of winning, there will be times when even the best performers underdeliver. Whether they’re facing a tough opponent, dealing with injuries, or simply experiencing a dip in form, dealing with underperforming stars can be challenging. Fortunately, there are ways to adjust your strategy, make smart substitutions, and optimize your squad to stay competitive and continue climbing the ranks.
In this article, we will walk you through practical strategies for handling underperforming star players in fantasy football, ensuring that you maximize your points, regardless of the setbacks.
1. Adapt Your Team: Assess Your Overall Squad
When key players underperform, it’s essential to take a step back and evaluate the overall health of your squad. Instead of obsessing over the underperforming star, focus on improving the balance and depth of your team.
Bench Strength: A strong bench can provide you with valuable options. If your star player is injured or in poor form, you can rely on your bench to step up. The key is to ensure that your bench is made up of players who are likely to see regular playing time and have a good chance of scoring points when called upon.
Team Composition: If you’ve been relying too heavily on a few stars, it might be time to diversify. A balanced team with reliable, lower-priced players can often outscore a team relying solely on a few high-priced superstars.
2. Make Smart Substitutions: Reacting to Player Form
One of the most effective ways to adapt when your star players underperform is by making timely substitutions. This is not just about removing players who are underperforming but about replacing them with players who are in good form or have favorable fixtures.
Analyze Player Form: Check the recent performance of all players, not just your star players. A player might have been inconsistent at the start of the season, but if they're on a hot streak, it could be time to bring them in. Regularly check player stats, upcoming fixtures, and injury updates to ensure you’re making the most informed substitution decisions.
Fixture Analysis: Fantasy football is a game of matchups, and fixtures play a significant role in a player's potential to perform. Look ahead at the next few gameweeks and identify players who have favorable fixtures. A player facing weak opposition or playing at home is more likely to rack up points than one facing a top-tier defense away from home.
3. Use Tactical Transfers Wisely
Transfers are a vital tool in fantasy football, allowing you to adjust your team according to changing circumstances. However, making unnecessary or hasty transfers can hurt you in the long run, especially if you fail to plan ahead.
Plan Your Transfers: Don’t just make transfers for the sake of it. Ensure that each transfer aligns with your long-term strategy. Look at the upcoming fixtures and consider bringing in players who have a better chance of performing consistently.
Target High-Value Players: When a star player isn’t delivering, you may be able to find a hidden gem in the mid-price bracket who can provide a better return on investment. These players often offer excellent value, providing more points for less money. For example, if a premium forward isn’t scoring, consider bringing in a mid-tier forward who’s been scoring regularly.
Use Your Free Transfers Wisely: Most fantasy football leagues allow a limited number of free transfers per week. Use them wisely by making moves that strengthen your squad for the long term. Also, avoid using your wild card unnecessarily unless you’ve identified several weak links in your squad that need addressing.
4. Optimize Captain and Vice-Captain Selections
Your captain and vice-captain selections are some of the most powerful tools at your disposal. They can make a huge difference in a week’s performance, so it’s crucial to optimize these selections, particularly when your star players underperform.
Assess Player Form and Matchups: When your star players are underperforming, you may need to change your strategy with regard to captaincy. Don’t automatically choose the “big names” for captaincy. Instead, look for players who are in good form and have favorable matchups. If a star forward is going through a dry spell, consider captaining a midfielder or defender who has been performing well and has an easier fixture.
Rotating Captains: If you have several solid options, rotating your captain based on fixtures and form can help minimize the risk of your star player underperforming. Keep an eye on matchups and player form for the most reliable captain choices.
Vice-Captain Strategy: Always have a reliable vice-captain in place. If your captain doesn’t start or doesn’t deliver, your vice-captain will automatically step in to take over the double points. Picking a vice-captain who is likely to play and has decent potential for points can ensure that you don’t lose out entirely.
5. Look for Value in Bench Players
While star players may be the focal point of your fantasy football team, it’s crucial not to overlook the potential of your bench players. Some of these players may be cheap options who can provide you with a steady stream of points, even when your stars fail to deliver.
Invest in Players Who Can Step In: If a key player is underperforming, you should have a bench that can provide quality replacements. Focus on players who are likely to start regularly and have a chance of scoring points, especially in the upcoming gameweeks.
Monitor Injuries and Suspensions: Keep an eye on injury updates and suspensions. When a star player is injured or suspended, a cheaper bench player might get a chance to play. Be sure to check lineup announcements before each gameweek to make last-minute adjustments if necessary.
Target Players with Potential: Low-cost players who are getting regular minutes on the field and have a good chance of scoring can be a great addition to your squad. Look for emerging talents or players with favorable fixtures ahead.
6. Incorporate Tactical Analytics
Analytics are a valuable tool in fantasy football. By using data on player performances, team stats, and matchups, you can make smarter decisions that will improve your team’s performance.
Use Fantasy Football Tools: Tools like Fantasy Premier League's (FPL) statistics, Transfermarkt, or WhoScored can provide in-depth player analysis. These tools show player performance trends, upcoming fixtures, and other useful data that can inform your transfer and captain decisions.
Look Beyond the Points: Sometimes players who aren't scoring goals or assisting are still contributing valuable points, such as through clean sheets, tackles, or passes. Understanding these subtleties can give you an edge in making the right tactical moves.
7. Track Live Player Performance
In today’s fantasy football landscape, tracking player performance in real-time is critical. Make sure to monitor live updates, particularly for injuries, lineup changes, and match progress. Player injuries and substitutions can have a significant impact on your team's overall performance, and staying updated gives you the flexibility to make necessary adjustments.
Follow Real-Time Updates: Use live tracking apps, such as the official Fantasy Premier League app, to monitor performance during matchdays. Keep track of substitutions, injuries, and red cards to make quick, informed decisions for your team.
Be Prepared for Last-Minute Changes: If a key player is unexpectedly left out of the squad or injured during a game, you'll want to have a backup plan in place. Consider having a backup captain or vice-captain ready in case of last-minute changes.
Conclusion: Stay Flexible and Strategic
In fantasy football, you can’t always rely on star players to deliver, but that doesn’t mean your season is doomed when they underperform. By staying flexible, making smart substitutions, tracking player form, and using your bench effectively, you can keep your team competitive even when your key players aren’t firing on all cylinders.
Always be proactive in your strategy, and don’t be afraid to make necessary changes to keep your team in top shape. Tracking live player performance and making adjustments based on the latest stats will give you the edge in critical moments. By following these strategies and staying alert, you’ll be well on your way to maintaining a competitive team throughout the season.
And remember, just like in fantasy football, adaptability is key when navigating the unpredictability of platforms like Gali Disawar Mix. By adjusting your approach to the latest trends, you can always stay ahead of the competition, no matter what challenges arise.

NFL Week 9 Winners and Losers
Tumblr media
Photo Credit: Elsa / Getty Images
By : BenJarmin Munguia
Date: November 5, 2024
It's officially the end of Week 9. Some teams did well and varied the L, but some teams were real winners when they lost. Let's see who made the list.
Winner
Derrick Henry
Baltimore Ravens running back had another big day, running for 106 yards on 23 carries and two touchdowns. His first touchdown of the day made him the 10th player in NFL history to score 100 rushing touchdowns during the Ravens' 41-10 lopsided game vs. the Denver Broncos.
Seems like King Henry is an ageless wonder.

Saquan Barkley
On Sunday, Saquan carried the football 27 times for 159 rushing yards and a touchdown, with 3 catches for 40 yards and another touchdown, during the Eagles' defeat over the Jaguars 22-28, but it wasn't the stats that really made the list.
Barkley went into video game mode and did a backward hurdle that made everybody's jaw drop. It's a play you only see in Madden.

Winner
Las Vegas Raiders
No, they didn't win this week; they actually got blown out by the Cincinnati Bengals 41-24. They even benched Garnder Minshew and put in Desmond Ridder to finish the game. Still, the Raiders made the winning list because at 2-7 and with no playoff spot in sight, they weren't going to finish the season as the laughing stock in the NFL; they fired offensive coordinator Luke Gesty just after 9 games. They may not clinch a spot in the NFL postseason this year, but they will try to finish more potent at the end of the race than when they started.

Losers
New Orleans Saints
The Saints started the season strong, scoring 2-0 and 40+ in their first two games, but it went downhill from there.
The Saints finally had Derek Carr back, but it seems like the Team went backward, losing to the Carolina Panthers, who seem to be struggling even more this season. This loss puts the Saints at 2-7 and in the basement of the NFC South. Can the Saints even win another game?
Perhaps the Saints should tank the season and look to draft the quarterback in the 1st round of next year's draft.

Losers
Indianapolis Colts.
The Colts benched quarterback Anthony Richardson in place of veteran and Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco. At 4-4, the Colts still have a shot to win the AFC South. Flacco looked pretty decent this year, throwing seven touchdowns and only one interception. It sure looks like the Colts made the right move.
However, the Colts not only lost to the Minnesota Vikings 21-13 but put a total of 227 yards, a season-low for the Colts this season; Flacco couldn't even throw for more than 200 yards and finished with a QBR of 63.7
I'm not really sure if we can say, "It's just one game." but Flacco is to remain the starting quarterback this Sunday.

Denzel:Where you going Zeke?
Zeke:I'm about to go get some water...
Denzel:A water break? Water is for cowards. Water makes you weak. Water is for washing blood off that uniform and you don't get no blood on my uniform, boy you must be outside your mind! We are going to do up-downs, until Zeke is no longer tired, and thirsty. 😂😂😂
