There are mushroom growing kits too. My local mushroom foraging options are so so. Instead I grow tasty fungi in my own home.

I see occasionally posts on here from people mentioning that they're thinking of learning to forage mushrooms, and the responses to those posts are mainly to overwhelmingly of the "don't do it, you'll die!" variety. Only with a lot more exclamation marks.

I do forage for mushrooms, and I have for years, and I know that you can forage for mushrooms safely- you just need to know what you are doing, because it's true that if you can kill yourself (or get very sick) from foraging mushrooms. However, it's also true that there are some very tasty mushrooms out there without any deadly look-alikes, and you can eat them without worrying yourself. Here's my tips for beginners:

Ideally, learn from someone in real life. I would suggest some one you trust, someone who's been foraging mushrooms for years, and some one you've had a discussion with about their risk tolerance and so forth. Ideally this person is very risk adverse. Ask them how they feel about amanitas to gauge this.

Even if you are learning from someone else, learn how to use a guidebook or id key. Get good at it. Use your guidebooks and id keys, practice, become comfortable identifying mushrooms long before you ever eat one.

Become really familiar with the mushrooms in your area and if there are any issues with the populations in your area. When I first got into mushrooming, I went on walks and took pictures of and identified every mushroom I could. I got to know what species are common here, where are are, and I looked them up to find out more about them. What's their habitat? Are they decomposers or symbiotic or parasitic? Is the species facing any issues? What are their look-alikes?

Talk to your local college's mychologist and/or join your local mushrooming club. These are really great resources, and local mushrooming clubs often do mushroom walks, and have so much information. Really, check them out. You can learn so much from them.

Only eat those without deadly look-alikes. But you're only going to know if they have deadly look-a-likes if you've done your research on the mushrooms you're considering. Learn to identify the look-alikes, and put as much effort into getting to know them as your target edible species. Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora is a really awesome book that has very thorough descriptions of many, many mushrooms and I really recommend it.

For me, I have a very limited number of mushrooms I forage, because I don't consider myself an expert and I have no desire to push my limits. I started off with the easiest and most abundant in my area, Oyster mushrooms, which only have one poisonous look-alike, Omphalotus nidiformis, which does not grow on the same continent as me. I have expanded from there, but each time I was very careful, got to know the species & genus, got to know the look-alikes, and identified them several times and double checked with someone I trusted before I ate them.

Avoid Amanitas. I personally, will not eat anything from the Amanitaceae family, ever. That's my risk limit. There are tasty Amanita mushrooms, but they are not ridiculously easy to tell apart from the ones that will straight up kill you, so no thanks. I regard them somewhat like fugu: sure, it might taste really good, but it's not worth risking my life. If you're a beginner, I suggest you start by learning to identify Amanitas so you can then avoid them, or appreciate them aesthetically. I'm not going to get into fly agaric here, yes I know you can boil the heck out of them or otherwise process them to make them edible, but this is a post for beginners, and this line is a sensible line for beginners in my opinion.

Yeah, so I am in school and I take grammar, spelling and comprehension pretty seriously, especially when writing papers for assignments and lab reports. If you noticed and took the time to send this ask from one specific reply of mine then you must have noticed my writing style is pretty shortened as I drop words from a statement as a form of very casual writing similar to how I speak to good friends. The full statement I would have said was "I've seen this yesterday and cackled, malicious compliance for the win". The point you're nitpicking about saying "I seen" the "I" wasn't included in the statement at all so you're jumping on correcting something that wasn't part of the statement at all due to my writing style when I'm on tumblr. Anyways, thank you for your insight but I'll be doing what I want when I'm not being graded for it.

so I sat on your ask for a couple days cause I wasn't sure how I'd reply at first, I didn't want to scare you but I also didn't want to like, be dishonest about the book's contents and sell you something that wasn't really in the book.

so to cut straight to the chase - yeah, there's plenty of non/dubcon in 2ha and it's between the two main characters, and it's as graphic as it can get. it's really hard to tell you exactly in which chapter it happens because, well, it's in... a lot of them LMAO. if this isn't your cup of tea then.... yeah. it's easy to skip those scenes/paragraphs and I've seen a lot of people that actually did that when they were reading but there are (many) arguments to be made about how that would take away from the MC's characterization so it's up to everyone to decide whether that would be worth it or not.

sorry anon, I know this is probably not the answer you wanted and it feels bad '''orz but I wanted it to be crystal clear in case you decided to try it out ♥ I mean, don't get me wrong - I think it's an amazing book but it's definitely for people that would not be uncomfortable with the non/dubcon when that makes up so much of the main character's traits & story. if you feel like that wouldn't be your cup of tea but you still wouldn't want to miss out on this amazing story - then please go read it and skip everything you want! I just ask that you don't try to sanitize the main characters & the story by pretending the dark content of the novel never happened, we get a lot of people policing the fandom as it is and while I do think everyone's entitled to engaging in media in whatever way they want, it's not cool to police how others do - specially when it's stuff that happened in the source material. ♥

i just started rewatching gx any characters i should look forward to besides alexis/asuka?

Hi there! Hmmm. Let's see. There are some characters who made progression in the show. Correct me if i am wrong, my gx memory is kinda blurry. I am listing below as my top 3 characters to look forward to:

1. JADEN. OBVIOUSLY the protag got the most character development in the show. You can see how a funny, happy go lucky duelist from season turn to an emo serious looking guy in s3/s4; how he see the dueslist in him, etc. He has experienced defeats to, so yeah.

2. CHAZZ. This dork. I can see his progression in the show too. He started out as a stereotypical dork, but you can also see in him as an improving duelist. He has his own moment in the season

3. ASTER. PERSONAL FAVE. When i saw him, in the show, for the first time, he was like, the aura of a pro-duelist. Also, i love his deck, he beats jaden, and he's cool. Haha.

Overall, i have a thing for yugioh girls. Not just because i am a gal, but they are quite forgotten in the show by most, maybe? Haha. Overall, I am really biased with Alexis. Her deck is my fave and how she stands out like as a woman duelist in the gang. Also, jaden x alexis tag duels is what i rewatched most.

what does rhaegar have to do with the FACT that jon arryn was a deeply flawed man that contributed a lot to the current shitty state of westeros? with the FACT that he basically excused and rewarded child murder and ned (as well as the majority of other characters) never seemed to actually judge him for it? with the FACT that ned not realising jon arryn's negative traits and misdeeds is speaking of his bias and blindness towards those he grew up with, just like he failed to see what a piece of shit robert baratheon was?

just because ppl point out the fandom's own bias towards characters like ned, not taking into account that he is also an unreliable narrator in certain topics, should not be belittled to “hey you're just a X stan”. it was the op of the so called “positive post” who gave jon arryn credit for overthrowing targaryen dynasty as a whole as if it's something good actually. idk guys last time i checked grrm said this:

there was no legal way to remove aerys from power despite his poor condition. and you would think that people who took away this power from him at the cost of war crimes are exactly the ones that are supposed to think like “hmm let's at least create new laws to prevent this catastrophe from happening in the future”. one big lmao to that tho, robert became another shitty king instead and jon arryn was next to useless as the hand. they didn't change the system, they didn't change shit as a matter of fact. the system that targaryens created was still in place, corruption didn't go away, it was as bad as during the reigns of the most shittiest targ kings actually (aegon the unworthy and robert baratheon parallels don't go anywhere as well). taxes, laws, small council? nothing got changed, the baratheon regime not only didn't improve anything, it basically used already established system that worked pretty fine for 300 hundred years after dragging dragons skulls to the basement. robert just spent all the gold there was and got into debt while jon arryn was watching. they ruled the country for 14 years and its current awful state is a consequence of their poor ruling.
