I was wondering- what are your thoughts on a reversed au where instead of Melanie finding a tiny Henry in the modern world, Henry finds a tiny Melanie in his world?

Oh man, my head has stewed on this for a loooong long time.

It would be WILDLY different, if we're talking about if The Rescue had genuinely never happened. Pre-Rescue Henry would, in my opinion, be far less kind and far more curious, if that makes sense? It would possibly be a slow road to him treating her fully like a person in the sense of caring about her needs and what would be needed to accommodate her.

He would absolutely treat her like a person in the sense of someone he'd keep trying to have long conversations with (if you're at all familiar, similar to how the King of Brobdingnag engages with Gulliver in Gulliver's Travels, more so using him for amusing conversation than treating him like an actual individual, he's fascinating but not equal of being a person, if that makes sense), and would probably show her off as an oddity or curiosity at the start.

There's the matter of his crew at the time as well, because they were Privateers for the King and the dynamics aboard that ship were fuckin' somethin' I tell you what. Gibson, Forbes and Neilson specifically were the core team with Henry and it's like how you can have something that's completely fine, perhaps even good, but the components of it on their own can be extremely volatile or dangerous in a mix of any other kind.

On the flipside of all of this, we have the AU idea where when they travel back to Vogunti, Melanie somehow shrinks and they're in opposite positions to how they were in the Rescue, with that history still immediately behind them. That would be extremely deliciously difficult for them both in a beautiful way. In my mind, anyway, hahaha.
