#My frustrations with modern gloves only increase every time I wear a vintage pair in my size

They also used to come in a MUCH larger range of sizes. Like shoes! (But even shoes aren't made in as many sizes as they used to be. Used to be half sizes AND 3 width options! 😩) But gloves came in QUARTER sizes! 6, 6 1/4, 6 1/2, 6 3/4, 7... And so on. You can still find vintage gloves with these numbers stamped on the inside, and if you figure out your glove size and find a vintage pair? It's incredible. The very thin stretchy leather ones mentioned above are the nicest, but even cloth ones from the first half of the 20th century (cotton or silk feel better than nylon) truly DO "fit like a glove." It's... a little bit life-changing. But again, it's more expensive to manufacture things in that wide a range of sizes, especially when people don't wear them as often anymore.
However, I would say... look up online how to measure your hand for glove sizes, and then search for vintage gloves in that size. There's still some out there!
where the fuck did the phrase ‘fits like a glove’ come from. ive never worn a glove that fit perfectly in my entire life.
#Fashion history#I don't know what the name for that glove fabric is! I THINK it's a special kind of knit.#But it's FIRM and substantial and only stretches a tiny bit. Like a good leather#My frustrations with modern gloves only increase every time I wear a vintage pair in my size#They FIT! 😭. The DEXTERITY you would not believe!#AND the thin kid leather ones can be touchscreen compatible even! (You just have to press a little more firmly)#ANYWAY I'm not bitter no! 🙃
