Im not good at words-ing but
Koharu Sakurada and Aki Tamaki
Tumblr media
Sakurada means "Cherry Blossom field"
Aki roughly translates to "Autumn"
Tumblr media
Cherry Blossoms are not only associated with love, but their short lived blooms also signify the fleeting nature of life.
Autumn is the time of the year where trees shed their leaves, and is associated with grief in some cultures. But at the same time, it signifies new beginnings.
Tumblr media
Koharu died young. Too young. Unlike Aki who had loved her since she was only nine years old, Koharu never had a chance to experience falling in love. And i think Aki feels guilty for that. For not confessing sooner, for not confessing later, for confessing at that place, at that time. Maybe then, she would still be alive, she would still have had a chance at experiencing love. And maybe she feels guilty for surviving the accident, for not being the one who died instead, for not being able to save her.
But she has to move on.
And moving on doesn't mean she didn't love Koharu any less, it didn't mean she didn't love her anymore. In fact, its the opposite.
Even years after her death, Aki still loved her.
She loved her for six years, and continued loving her for five more.
Aki loved her, and though that love and grief may not fade away anytime soon, she has to move on. For herself, and for Koharu.
Tumblr media
Those cherry blossoms will bloom again one day, and though those flowers aren't the same as the ones from before, they are just as wonderful.

I like toxic yuri. I do not like the Sapphic Overton window and how it's it's moved so far in the direction of unrealistic levels of purity that two women must act like inhuman saints and never have any conflict to be considered "healthy." And pretty normal women in love having realistic conflict for the plot they're in gets labeled "toxic yuri."
Malini and Priya from the Burning Kingdoms books are not toxic yuri, their feelings for each other and how they relate are pretty damn healthy, they're just trapped in impossible circumstances. Ditto Siuan and Moiraine from Wheel of Time. There's a difference between inherent toxicity and a dramatic plot pushing people to the breaking point.
Now, Lucille the repressed bisexual from Crimson Peak who is a serial killer and slowly poisoning Edith to death even as she desires her? Or Carmilla in the original 1872 story Carmilla who believes her love for other girls can only be death and so she's slowly killing the girl she loves to draw out their time together while slaying other women quickly to satiate her bloodlust? *That's* toxic yuri. There's something at the very core of their dynamic that is toxic. Not two women who are pretty sweet together forced into a mind-breakingly impossible situation and having conflict over it. I am into that shit - and I am into realistic writing and high stakes situations pushing people to the breaking point - and there's a very important distinction there.

Summary: Monika has the perfect life. She's the president of a literature club where every girl is her girlfriend. Over the course of a year they've helped each other heal from their traumas and learned to love themselves for who they are. After a special weekend where the girls celebrated Natsuki's decision to move in with Yuri, it seemed like life was just getting better and better for everyone. And it was. Until the day Monika woke up in a world where none of that was true. A world where everything revolves around a boy named only 'MC'. He's such a strange boy, with such mysterious eyes. Eyes that make you lose all sense of time... and place... and self. (A story about queerness overcoming all odds)
Author: @queercatessays
Submitter: @octonine
Note from submitter: I absolutely love the worldbuilding of this fic and how it expands the idea of the VMs from DDLC Plus. This story makes me cry so hard in some points, specially chapter 3 (cause y'know... the transmisia). Also, KeroZombie is writing a sequel to this fic that currently has 8 chapters, just adding this here.

You know how sometimes the "travel to different dimensions and see other versions of myself and what lives I coulda had" plotlines are used to treat the MC how to love themselves again etc? I want one of those to happen in a very literal sense. I want an MC who travels around meeting different versions of themselves from different timelines and to end up in a relationship with one of em. Ultimate selfcest situation. Just go all in with it

love stories are literary works, inventions of fiction, not a personal wish of the reader/writer. it can be present in a narrative for a bunch of different thematic, aesthetic, or character/plot reasons. love stories can be used to probe at all kinds of corners of the human experience, including extreme ones. it's poetic; it's not meant to be taken literally.
even when a love story evokes things the reader/writer finds emotionally or sexually attractive (as it's intended to a lot of the time in the genre of Romance proper - though that genre is a recent invention historically and a narrow sample of what love stories can do narratively and even there not all readers/writers are engaging in a specific way) in that case it's a fantasy not a wish. but also i sometimes read and watch stuff that i don't find personally appealing even as a fantasy but moving as a story. those things can overlap--different kinds of pleasures in the narrative--but don't have to.
i don't find most of the male leads of mf love stories i read and watch personally attractive, actually! usually i find the heroines more attractive, though not always. sometimes it's just moving as a story.
the fact that people debase an art form that women's art often occupies and OR is shoved into by force (e.g. Wuthering Heights was considered a brilliant work of drama with insight into the extremities of the human soul... until people found out it was written by a woman, and then it was more popularly judged by the set of mean and small, literal minded standards women's "romance" gets subjected to) is so gross
without the warping lens of misogyny over the whole enterprise--from the origins of the novel onward! and the various moral scares about "scribbling women" and women readers over the centuries--people wouldn't read these particular kinds of stories in such a literal minded, insulting way
