“Okay,” Derek finally spoke, voice quiet but decisive.

“Great,” Cora nodded. “But I’m not fucking your husband.”

Derek spent the past three months planning, agonizing, and coming to a conclusion. His mom was progressive about many things but she was a traditionalist about courting. She drilled it into all of her children that finding someone you could imagine standing beside in a dangerous world was a precious discovery, especially for an Alpha. Derek wants to make choices that would make his mother proud. It took him a long time to become an Alpha that was even a quarter of what his mother had been. So much of that was because Stiles never gave up on him.

It was time Derek courted Stiles Stilinski.

I have a question about these themes: ‘Harlequin’ and ‘Pack of Two (or few)’ I feel like I should know what they mean, but I don’t. If you wouldn’t mind, could you go into more detail about these themes? Maybe an example? I’d really really appreciate it. Thanks again!

I wouldn’t mind at all!  Full disclosure, my most honest answer is that the themes mean anything you can make them mean or anything you want them to mean, but that’s not very helpful if they didn’t immediately spark an idea. I guess the main thing to take away from these explanations is that I don’t want to limit anyone’s creativity at all. If it does help you, then that’s awesome! If it doesn’t help, then please discard it with no worries and do your own thing. :D 1. Harlequin The image most people probably think of is the harlequin/arlecchino stock character from commedia dell’arte, a form of Italian theater characterized by masked “types”. In these performances, Harlequin wears a checkered costume. He plays the role of a comic servant who often works to thwart his master with physical agility, wit, and resourcefulness.  This concept has been related to, and in some cases, directly inspires: Clowns/jesters/mimes. Carnivals and faires. Harley Quinn (of DC universe fame). Masks/masquerades. Playing cards (the joker specifically). And of course, Harlequin—perhaps the best-known publisher of romance novels.   Italian Commedia dell’arte took the name Harlequin from a trickster devil character in French passion plays. These plays used Hellequin, a devil said to lead the Wild Hunt (Mesnee d’Hellequin: the househould/retinue of Hellequin). The name may also be connected to the Erlkönig (Elf-king, alder-king, king of the fairies).  Not the origin but still fun, Dante’s Inferno has a devil character named Alichino who shares characteristics with the Arlecchino. Theme Use Examples: AU where everyone works at a Ren Faire One of them is a hacker, code name: Harlequin Heist fic with card counting and casinos  Steter at a masquerade ball Peter and Stiles meet at a romance writer’s convention Wild Hunt fic (canon or AU) Write a fic using common tropes found in Harlequin/Mills & Boon romances 2. Pack of Two (or few)  I got several suggestions revolving around the idea that Peter and Stiles are in some kind of plot that closes out most of the other characters. Like, maybe they’re murder husbands, on an unexpected roadtrip, or they’ve been isolated and can only find solace with each other now. So I folded them all into the idea of “Stiles and Peter are their own pack”. This could go a lot of places, from Stockholm Syndrome to fluffy fics where Peter and/or Stiles learn how to to open up and trust more people in their pack/family circle. Hope this answered your questions!

Honestly, you have no idea what that means to me, I have been in such a horrible place with my writing for the last year and a half and that has truly made my week, you are so sweet and kind and thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to say that little old me, it is honestly so appreciated.

I suppose when you see so many talented writers on here its easy to feel a little disheartened, because they are so well known and so amazing and as much as you shouldn’t write just for praise and for people to see it, it helps boost you when you get reads and feedback, it makes it worth it, but when they barely get noticed, I’m not gonna lie, it hurts. I don’t have the greatest confidence when it comes to my writing, even though I love doing it, so yeah, you made me cry some little happy tears, so thank you again and sorry for the long reply :’)

Hi! So I've never done a reverse bang before. I'm signed up as an artist. And I'm confused as to how we check in. What does that mean? And also when we post in march are we posting our work on our own Tumblrs with a reversbang tag? Or are we posting somewhere else? How do we post with the fic along with it? Sorry if this has already been answered. :)

So, to answer all your questions: first, the check in: all artists were emailed just now with a link to a form to fill out (you can find it here), and that’s all you need to do this time. 

When it comes to posting (see here), you will indeed be posting on your own tumblr or AO3. We won’t be tracking any tags though, because the tagging system can be wonky and we don’t want to miss any posts. Instead, we’ll ask each author/artist match to submit a form with the links to your works on the posting date (you’ll be given all instructions and links before that date). 

It will be up to you and the author how you decide to post your art and fic, and only one of you will need to fill out the form when the works are posted (this is part of why we’ve mentioned that we encourage communication between artists and authors). 

You will be given specific instructions via email and in a post here before posting starts.

Stiles’ eyebrows shoot up and a laugh bursts out before he can stop it. Now he understands how the pack knew this room probably wouldn’t belong to his dad (which, gross).

He looks over his shoulder at Derek who’s glaring pointedly at everything except for Stiles with pink-tipped ears.

“Presumptuous. I like it,” he says to the house, patting one of the walls and throwing a wink at Derek hovering in the doorway.

When the Hale pack transitions to a new Alpha, Stiles is thrilled to be assigned to Beacon Hills to try out as their new Emissary. He and his dad are immediately enamoured with the idyllic little town, fitting right in with the rest of the Hales – except for Derek. The new Alpha shows no signs of welcome, but it will be hard for him to stay stubborn in the face of his family’s encouragement and a sentient house that has plans for the two of them whether Derek likes it or not.
