Looking Ahead to 2024
With the new year finally here, I thought this would be a good time to list the films I am most excited about coming to theaters in 2024. So I present the films I am most excited about coming out this year (in alphabetical order):
Ballerina
Spinning out of the John Wick films comes this action thriller starring Ana de Armas that takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.
Beetlejuice 2
Apparently, it took 36 years for someone to say his name three times because Beetlejuice is back! Tim Burton directs the sequel starring original stars Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O'Hara and joined by new addition Jenna Ortega.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.
I'll be honest, I really liked Beverly Hills Cop III and am disappointed we never got to see the 2013 CBS pilot about Axel Foley's son. Count me in for the fourth film coming to Netflix this year.
Deadpool 3
The lone Marvel Studios film coming in 2024 is a continuation of the Fox Deadpool series. But with Hugh Jackman returning as Wolverine, this one is one to watch.
Dune: Part Two
Return to Arrakis with director Denis Villeneuve for this adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Originally slated for a late 2023 release, it is finally coming this year.
The Fall Guy
Ryan Gosling is a stuntman turned investigator in this action comedy, based on a 1980s TV series, co-starring Emily Blunt, Winston Duke, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
Anya Taylor-Joy is Furiosa in this origin story focused on Charlize Theron's character from Fury Road.
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
The Splenger kids are back in this sequel to 2021's Afterlife (and the fourth film in the Ghostbusters series).
Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 and Chapter 2
While this may be two films, let's count it as one. Coming this year is Kevin Costner's epic Western Horizon. And don't forget, Costner has plans for four Horizon films.
IF
John Krasinski writes and directs this fantasy comedy starring Ryan Reynolds as a man who can see people's imaginary friends.
Joker: Folie a Deux
Joaquin Phoenix returns as the Joker is joined by Lady Gaga has Dr. Harleen Quinzel in this sequel to 2019's award-winning Joker.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare
Guy Ritchie directs Henry Cavill in this action spy film about the British black ops during WWII.
Twisters
As a huge fan of 1996's Twister, I am ready for more. More twisters.
Unfrosted: The Pop-Tart Story
Is 2024 the year we finally see Jerry Seinfeld's film about the origins of Pop-Tarts for Netflix? I sure hope so.
Wolfs
Jon Watts writes and directs this psychological action-thriller starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
Honorable Mention (films not mentioned above): Argylle, Madame Web, Drive-Away Dolls, Road House, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Abigail, Civil War, Challengers, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, Inside Out 2, Bad Boys 4, The Bikeriders, A Quiet Place: Day One, Project Artemis, Alien: Romulus, Kraven the Hunter, Venom 3, Alto Knights, Red One, Gladiator 2, Wicked: Part One, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Nosferatu.
Now for a quick look ahead to 2024, my top picks for that year are Avatar 3, The Batman - Part II, Captain America: Brave New World, Fantastic Four, Mission: Impossible 8, Superman: Legacy, and any of the above-mentioned films that get bumped to 2025.
Looking back at the 15 films on my Looking Ahead to 2023 list from last year: I saw 13 in theaters, one was bumped to 2024 and is included above, and one I didn't get a chance to see yet thanks to the flu. (sorry Wonka).

Fairfield Porter (1907 – 1975) was an American painter and art critic. He was the fourth of five children of James Porter, an architect, and Ruth Furness Porter, a poet from a literary family. He was the brother of photographer Eliot Porter and the brother-in-law of federal Reclamation Commissioner Michael W. Straus.
While a student at Harvard, Porter majored in fine arts; he continued his studies at the Art Students' League when he moved to New York City in 1928. His studies at the Art Students' League predisposed him to produce socially relevant art and, although the subjects would change, he continued to produce realist work for the rest of his career. He would be criticized and revered for continuing his representational style in the midst of the Abstract Expressionist movement.
His subjects were primarily landscapes, domestic interiors and portraits of family, friends and fellow artists, many of them affiliated with the New York School of writers, including John Ashbery, Frank O'Hara, and James Schuyler. Many of his paintings were set in or around the family summer house on Great Spruce Head Island, Maine and the family home at 49 South Main Street, Southampton, New York.
His painterly vision, which encompassed a fascination with nature and the ability to reveal extraordinariness in ordinary life, was heavily indebted to the French painters Pierre Bonnard and Édouard Vuillard.
John Ashbery wrote of him: "Characteristically, [Porter] tended to prefer the late woolly Vuillards to the early ones everyone likes".
Porter said once, "When I paint, I think that what would satisfy me is to express what Bonnard said Renoir told him: 'make everything more beautiful.'"

How to Watch Mad Men and More Great Shows for Free Right Now
Another day, another brand new streaming platform out there begging you to subscribe to its service so you can ignore your family members and binge-watch a bunch of TV shows and movies in the name of entertainment. This time, it's NBCUniversal's Peacock, which offers a free tier as well as two premium options (one with ads and one without). The service features a number of programs for free, including Friday Night Lights and even Parks and Recreation, but Peacock isn't the only place you can stream great shows without breaking the bank.
Below, we've gathered up a number of shows that don't require you to shell out money for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Disney+, Apple TV+, HBO Max, Peacock, and/or whatever other streaming service subscriptions are out there. Sometimes you just need a simple freebie. And you know what? You deserve it. So check out the list below and take comfort in knowing it won't cost you a thing.
Watch it on: IMDb TV
Until recently you had to have a Netflix subscription to watch Mad Men, AMC's Emmy-award winning period drama from Matthew Weiner that was dedicated as much to style as it was to substance. The 1960s-set series, which traced the rise and fall of flawed Madison Avenue advertising executive Don Draper (Jon Hamm) through his own complicated relationship with identity, was a pointed commentary on the toxic masculinity, sexism, and racism of the era. It also changed the way we watch and talk about TV. If you haven't seen it yet, now's the perfect time to do so.
The Dick Van Dyke Show
Watch it on: Tubi (complete series), Pluto TV (complete series)
Realizing The Dick Van Dyke Show is streaming for free feels a bit like winning a secret lottery or viewing an exceptional piece of art without paying the museum admission fee. The popular comedy, which ran for five seasons, was created by Carl Reiner and starred Dick Van Dyke as the head writer of a TV show, while Mary Tyler Moore portrayed his wife. It's a timeless classic — one that took home 15 Emmys during its run, and if you've yet to experience it, you literally have no excuse at this point.

Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Felicity is best known as the show in which Keri Russell cut her hair (not to be confused with the show in which Keri Russell wore a lot of great wigs, aka The Americans). Depicting Felicity Porter's (Russell) college years and the struggles that accompany trying to figure out who you're supposed to be, the show is also famous for Scott Speedman's whisper-talking and the ongoing battle of Ben (Speedman) vs. Noel (Scott Foley). Although the WB series was previously streaming on Hulu, you can now watch it for free on the ABC app.
A reimagining of the kitschy original series, Syfy's Battlestar Galacticastarred Edward James Olmos, Mary McDonnell, Katee Sackhoff, Tricia Helfer, Michael Hogan, James Callis, and Jamie Bamber and explored the aftermath of a nuclear attack by the Cylons, cybernetic creatures invented by man who evolved and rebelled against their creators. The show was critically acclaimed for the way it tackled the subjects of science, religion, and politics, and for the way it explored the deeply complicated notion of what makes us human. Everything from the miniseries to the two BSG films (Razor and The Plan) is currently available to stream for free on Syfy's website, so there's no better time to watch it. So say we all!
Watch it on: IMDb TV (complete series), Tubi (complete series), Pluto TV (first 13 seasons), YouTube (first 13 seasons)
For many millennials, the fourth series in the Degrassi franchise, Degrassi: The Next Generation, is the defining iteration of the long-running Canadian series. The drama series, which was sometimes so overly dramatic it was actually funny, tackled everything from date rape and suicide to sexual orientation and teen pregnancy. The series, which launched the careers of Drake (then known as Aubrey Graham) and Nina Dobrev, is streaming on multiple free platforms.
Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Eli Stone really had it all, which is to say it had Victor Garber singing George Michael songs, Loretta Devine singing George Michael songs, and George Michael singing George Michael songs. What else is there? ABC's offbeat two-season comedy-drama starred a pre-Elementary Jonny Lee Miller as Eli Stone, a high-powered San Francisco lawyer whose brain aneurysm gave him prophetic visions — which usually involved his friends, family, and colleagues breaking into song. Aside from a couple of ill-advised plotlines (the pilot, which suggests vaccines cause autism, is best forgotten), the show was a blast: a weird but memorable cocktail that should have stuck around for more seasons because, as I mentioned, Victor Garber sang George Michael songs. Also, Sigourney Weaver played God?! -Kelly Connolly
Watch it on: YouTube (nearly every episode)
A true Canadian treasure, The Red Green Show was a long-running comedy starring Steve Smith as Red Green, a handyman who constantly tried to cut corners using duct tape and who had his own cable TV show. It was a parody of home improvement shows and outdoor programs and featured segments like Handyman Corner, Adventures with Bill, and The Possum Lodge Word Game. The show ran for 15 seasons, airing on PBS in the States.
TV Premiere Date Calendar: Find Out When Your Favorite Shows Are Back
Watch it on: IMDb TV (complete series), ABC app (complete series)
Critically beloved but struck down before its time, My So-Called Life has been praised for its realistic and honest portrayal of teenage life, not just via Angela Chase (Claire Danes), but through the show's young supporting cast as well. Now considered to be one of the best shows of all time, it tackled topics like homophobia, homelessness, drug use, and more without ever feeling preachy or like an after-school special. Also, Jordan Catalano (Jared Leto) could lean.
Watch it on: CW Seed (first five seasons), IMDb TV (first five seasons)
If you don't have Netflix but still want to watch Schitt's Creek, you'll be happy to know you can watch the first five seasons of the heartwarming, Emmy-nominated comedy series, about a wealthy family who loses everything they own except the town of the show's title, for free on CW Seed and IMDb TV.

Watch it on: Peacock (complete series); IMDb TV (complete series)
You may never know what it feels like to have Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) be proud of you, but you can pretend by watching all five seasons of Friday Night Lights, a series that was as much about a Texas community as it was about the sport that united it. By the end of the show, you'll be asking yourself "What Would Riggins Do?" and tattooing "Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose" on your body, all while chanting "Texas forever!" Trust me, it happens to everybody.
Watch it on: CW Seed (complete series)
It is relatively easy to forget that The CW series The Carrie Diaries was a prequel to Sex and the City, because the charming show, which lasted just two seasons, was able to stand on its own. The coming-of-age series that followed a teenaged Carrie Bradshaw (AnnaSophia Robb) was relatively innocent compared to the original series. The show's 1980s setting made it easier for the writers to focus on more harmless family storylines and teenage heartbreaks, but the show never shied away from the heartstring-tugging drama of young adulthood either. It's a shame the show never got the kind of ratings it deserved and wasn't able to exist beyond Carrie's high school years, but the Season 2 finale works well as a series finale, so viewers won't feel as if the story was left incomplete. android tv box
Watch it on: CW Seed (complete series)
It's a shame Bryan Fuller's saturated dramedy Pushing Daisies, about a pie-maker (Lee Pace) with the ability to bring the dead back to life, couldn't bring itself back to life after becoming a casualty of the 2007-08 writers' strike. A whimsical delight, the show featured the pie-maker teaming up with a local private eye (Chi McBride) to solve murders by reviving the victims for a brief time. Known for its quirky characters, eccentric visual style, and Jim Dale's pitch-perfect narration, it remains must-see TV.
Watch it on: IMDb TV (first seven seasons); Peacock
Columbo kicked off nearly every episode by revealing the crime and its perpetrator to the audience, which means unlike most crime dramas, the show was less about whodunnit and more about Peter Falk's iconic raincoat-wearing homicide detective catching them and getting them to confess. Oh, and just one more thing: it's great.
Watch it on: CW Seed (complete series)
The charming and playful Forever, which starred Ioan Gruffudd as an immortal medical examiner, was the one show that could have saved ABC's Tuesday at 10 p.m. death slot. But the network still canceled the series anyway, enraging the show's fans, who have never let the sting of its death go. Luckily, it now lives on, ahem, forever (aka until the content license expires) on CW Seed.
Watch it on: IMDb TV (complete series)
It sounds odd to say The Middle, which ran for nine seasons on ABC, was unfairly overlooked, but it always felt like the series, which followed the middle class Midwestern Heck family, was a bit of a hidden gem. It wasn't as popular with Emmy voters as, say, Modern Family, and critics also failed to give it its due, but it was a real, heartfelt, reliable family comedy with mass appeal, and you can stream it on IMDb TV for free. h96 tv box
Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Trophy Wife's short life — it was canceled after just one season — can probably be chalked up to its unfortunate title, which was meant to be ironic but ultimately kept viewers from tuning in and experiencing the warmth of the show and the relationships at its center. Malin Akerman starred as the young wife of Bradley Whitford's middle-aged lawyer, and the comedy explored the dynamics between the two, his children, and his two ex-wives, who were played by Marcia Gay Harden and Michaela Watkins. h96 max x3
Watch it on: NBC app (complete series)
Loosely based on the Biblical story of King David, Kings was a compelling drama before its time. Rudely cut down after just one season by NBC, the show starred Ian McShane as the king of the fictional kingdom of Gilboa, while Christopher Egan portrayed an idealistic young soldier whose counterpart is David. The show also starred Sebastian Stan, which is reason enough to want to check it out.
Watch it on: ABC app (complete series)
Ray Wise portrays Satan in Reaper, a supernatural dramedy about a slacker (Bret Harrison) who reluctantly becomes a reaper tasked with capturing escaped souls from hell after it's revealed his parents made a deal with the devil many, many years before. The fact the show only lasted two seasons is a crime against humanity. Luckily, you can watch it in its entirety for free on the ABC app. h96 max x3
Watch it on: IMDb TV (complete series)
A team of experts led by a kooky old scientist (John Noble), his son (Joshua Jackson), and an FBI agent (Anna Torv) investigate strange occurrences around the country, X-Files style, in the J.J. Abrams-produced Fringe. The series is one of the best broadcast science-fiction shows of all time, particularly in its first three seasons, and perfected the art of the serialized procedural by weaving the show's deep mythology and excellent character work into weekly standalone stories, making it easy to binge or watch in spurts. And by the time the end of Season 1 starts, you'll have a hard time stopping. -Tim Surette
Watch it on: Tubi (complete series), Vudu (complete series)
Although American TV producers would eventually adapt Being Human, the original British version, which followed three supernatural beings trying to live amongst humans, is far superior. The show, which ran for five seasons, starred Aidan Turner, Russell Tovey, and Lenora Crichlow as a vampire, werewolf, and ghost, respectively. So skip the U.S. version entirely and watch the U.K. series for free.
Watch it on: Pluto TV (complete series), Vudu (complete series), Tubi (complete series)
The Australian young adult-oriented series Dance Academy is not exactly what you'd call "great television," but it is great fun. Brimming with teen angst and melodrama, the series, which ran for three seasons and even had a follow-up movie, followed a handful of dancers at Sydney's National Academy of Dance as they trained in the sport they loved while also falling in and out of love with each other. The acting was sometimes questionable, but the series itself was addictive, not to mention one of the easiest binges you'll ever encounter. h96 max tv box
3rd Rock From the Sun
Watch it on: Tubi (complete series), Pluto TV (complete series), Crackle (all six seasons), Vudu (all six seasons)
You might think a show about a group of socially awkward, 1,000-year-old aliens in human skin suits who are trying (badly) to pose as a human family and blend into an ordinary Midwest town might sound ridiculous, and, well, that's fair. But 3rd Rock From the Sun was still charming in even its most bizarre moments and gave its cast a lot of room to play up their roles and create an ensemble of weirdos that, at some point or another, start to tap into their newfound humanity and relish their new home here on Earth. -Amanda Bell.

The Best, Worst and Most Unforgettable TV Moments of 2018
It's crazy to think that in 2018, television got even bigger than it was in 2017. And this was a year without massive hits like Stranger Things and Game of Thrones. But here we are in another December, remembering awesome stuff that happened back in the spring that seemed like it happened five years ago because there are a bajillion shows on at all times.
More television is always a good thing, but that doesn't mean 2018 didn't bring some horrible TV moments, and try as we might, they were impossible to forget. Below, we take a quick look at the best, worst and most unforgettable television of 2018.
The 25 Best Shows of 2018
Not gonna lie, trimming the insane amount of television that came out this year to just our 25 favorites was a brutal process, and more than one table got flipped in the TV Guide offices while making the final cuts. But we eventually settled on this list, chosen by the entire editorial staff using a voting system way too complicated to explain here, and it's a perfect example of how diverse television has become.
Best Fandom
We're letting you, the fans, decide this important category for us.
We've identified 14 TV fandoms, including Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash, Riverdale, Power, Supernatural, Legacies, Lucifer, The 100, Shadowhunters, Outlander, Doctor Who, Timeless and Wynonna Earp in this Twitter thread:
All you have to do is vote for your favorite hive by retweeting and liking the corresponding show's tweet. Easy, right? You got this. May the best fandom win!
Best Relationship
Couples from Grey's Anatomy, Shadowhunters, Vikings and more of your favorite shows made the list. Find out how we ranked TV's best romances in the video below.
Best (and Therefore Also Worst) Villain
Mr. Chuckle Teeth, The X-Files
If you've ever watched any kids' television shows, you know that they're full of messed-up sh--. In "Familiar," The X-Files went back to the classic monster-of-the-week format with Mr. Chuckle Teeth, a toy based on a character from a children's series who comes to life and murders people. It's actually a demon, but even if it wasn't, we still would have peed our pants.

Most Depressing Reality Show Moment
RuPaul's Drag Race
It's always a war to win RuPaul's Drag Race, as contestants attempt to out-fab each other at any cost, and all wars have casualties. Asia O'Hara had a splendid idea for the finale to let loose some butterflies from her outfit; that'll show 'em! But the flying caterpillars -- which had to be put in a deep freeze to be imported to her -- never thawed out, and as Asia set up for the finale, they tumbled lifelessly to the ground. Contestants on the show hope for a crown from Fierce Drag Jewels, not letters from PETA.
Worst Reality Moment We're Glad We Weren't Around For
The Real Housewives of New York
The ladies of RHONY vacationed to Colombia this year, and it was a literal sh--show. The water, the food, a pool boy, we're not totally sure, but something gave the gals the runs, and thank god they were south of the equator and far from us, because they left... ummm, "traces" of their ailments all over their hotel room. On the floor. In the bed. Places that weren't toilets. Gross.
The 25 Best Performances of 2018
TV would be pretty boring if it didn't have any actors in it, so let's give it up for the ones who were the best , OK?
Best Drama (Off-Screen)
The Affair
Ruth Wilson played a major character on Showtime's scandalous series. Emphasis on played. Despite being one of the two leads, her character was surprisingly killed off in The Affair's fourth season, and we still don't know why. DUN DUN. Wilson said she's not allowed to talk about why she was leaving the show, which is a legal workaround of an NDA, and the bigger story of what actually happened may never be revealed. It's the best cliffhanger of the year, and one that likely won't be resolved by the time the next season airs.
Runner-up: Whatever happened between Clayne Crawford and Damon Wayans Jr. on Lethal Weapon.
Worst Product Placement
This Is Us
People were going to be pissed off over Jack Pearson's death no matter what, so NBC's drama decided to give viewers a physical target for their anger in the way of a faulty Crock-Pot that set Jack's house on fire. It was This Is Us' way of deflecting, by saying, "Hey, don't blame us, blame this evil Crock-Pot!" The company was forced into face-saving PR, and the show itself came to the slow-cooker's defense, but it was too late. Crock-Pots were hurled out of windows in fear, and the Instant Pot took over. You have blood on your hands, This Is Us.
Best Fake Name for a Fake, Awful Person
Zack Pizazz, The Good Place
The start of The Good Place's third season was all about getting the gang back together on Earth, and the persona Michael's (Ted Danson) used to lure Jason (Manny Jacinto) to Australia was so bad it was good. Zack Pizazz was a sleazy talent scout, and Michael looked the part: gray floppy hair, sunglasses at night, popped collar on a leather jacket. It was hideous, and of course, it worked.
Best Shoulder Acting
Bill Skarsgård, Castle Rock
As Castle Rock's "The Kid," a mysterious interdimensional being who might be the Devil, Bill Skarsgård made the artist's choice to give his character a physical trademark: acute shoulder asymmetry. It's never explained or even talked about; not once does someone ask if he's miming a DJ with one ear on his headphones about to mix in his next sick track. And in the season's ninth episode, which visits a normal version of his character in the alternate universe, his shoulders are square as a level, meaning the disfigurement is there for a reason. Actors will often add physical tics to their characters, but most don't have to spend all the scratch they earned for the role on a chiropractor afterward. His sacrifice is our gain; it's the ultimate bar for shoulder acting on TV.
The 25 Best Episodes of 2018
Even the best shows take an episode off here and there, and conversely, some of the not-so-best shows surprise us with hours we never saw coming. This is the list of 25 best episodes of television we saw all year.
Best News We Heard All Year
NBC saves Brooklyn Nine-Nine
Dan Goor's zany cop comedy was the saddest casualty of Fox's shift away from good things single-camera comedies as it prepared to be absorbed by Disney, but NBC was all, "Thank you!" and snatched Brooklyn Nine-Nine right up. We're expecting the transition to be seamless as it changes networks for more of the same action we love, and we can't wait to take it all in. (Name of your sex tape.)
Worst Time to Be a Prisoner on TV
Marvel's Daredevil, 'Blindsided'
The single most complicated scene to shoot in 2018 started several minutes before the halfway mark of the fourth episode of Marvel's Daredevil's third season, and ended with about a third of the episode left. It's a monster one-take shot set during a prison riot that's nearly 11 minutes long. Firebombs fly, smoke grenades go off and, of course, Matt Murdoch is in the middle of it all, punching people in the face. But for the whole thing, it's Daredevil, us and a camera operator trudging through chaos. It's so long, it doesn't even fit into one YouTube clip.
Biggest HOLY F--- Moment of the Year
That surprise return, Jane the Virgin
Nothing should be off-limits given Jane the Virgin's telenovela roots, but no one expected the final moments of the Season 4 finale. Jane's ex, Michael, who died at the start of Season 3, was actually alive and right in front of Jane. That's all we know. Whether that really is Michael (Brett Dier) and where he's been all this time are still mysteries, as the season ended on that shocker. We've been letting out one constant scream since.
Best Use of an Intestinal Parasite
Lodge 49
For a weird moment to stand out in a weird show like AMC's Lodge 49 as the show's weirdest moment, it better be pretty damned weird. The setup here is crucial: We thought Blaise (David Pasquesi) -- the hippy-dippy alchemist of the lodge -- was telling a tall tale about having a parasite rummaging around his gut for several years, and then we were misdirected by his immense nervousness about public speaking before the group for most of the episode. So when the moment came and this happened, it was just as surprising as it was disgusting.

Jose Pedraza stops Julian Rodriguez in eight rounds
Jose Pedraza stops Julian Rodriguez in eight rounds
Photo by Mikey Williams/Top Rank Inc via Getty Images 12 Jun by Ryan O'Hara The veteran welcomed his younger pupil to his boxing masterclass. Former two-division champion Jose Pedraza handed Julian Rodriguez his first loss in a dominating eighth-round stoppage at Virgin Hotels in Las Vegas. The scheduled 10-round, junior welterweight bout, served as the chief support to the 12-round main event featuring 130-pounder Shakur Stevenson taking on Jeremiah Nakathila. Pedraza, who has won titles at junior lightweight and lightweight, lived up to his name “Sniper” in the third round. He connected with a series of sweeping right hands that landed on Rodriguez’s chin. By the end of the frame, his left cheekbone also showed signs of significant swelling. “My experience was too much for him. I was hungrier than him,” Pedraza said. He went right back to peppering Rodriguez in the fourth round with the jab and followed up with a slew of right hands and constantly changed levels, which kept his younger adversary confused. Rodriguez (21-1, 14 KOs), who came in 1.4 pounds for the fight and agreed to pay Pederaza an undisclosed amount of money from his purse, continued to struggle against the tricky southpaw in round six. The ever-steady Pedraza piled up more points as he picked Rodriguez apart, causing redness to accumulate around both eyes. In the eighth round, the 32-year-old Pedraza (29-3, 13 KOs), of Puerto Rico, was in complete control, popping Rodriguez with the jab and mixing in the straight left hand and a few uppercuts, punches that forced Rodriguez to ask himself serious questions about continuing. After returning to the stool, Rodriguez, 26, of Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey, informed his father and trainer, Alex Devia, that he was unable to see out of his left eye, and the bout was stopped. After the fight, Pedraza said that he wants all the big names in his division. “With this performance, I sent a message to those big names. The ‘Sniper’ is on the hunt. I want to make history for Puerto Rico.” To wrap up the undercard, Manuel Rey Rojas (21-5, 6 KOs) bounced back from a loss to outpoint Tyler McCreary (16-2-1, 7 KOs) in an eight-round, junior lightweight fight. 140-pounder John Bauza (15-0, 6 KOs) annihilated Christon Edwards (12-3, 6 KOs) in two one-sided frames. Puerto Rico-bred, Florida-based prospect Xander Zayas (9-0, 7 KOs) scored a spectacular third-round stoppage of Larry Fryers (11-4, 4 KOs) in a scheduled six-rounder contested at 147 pounds. Bryan Lua (8-0, 3 KOs), a 135-pound prospect, outpointed previously undefeated Frevian Gonzalez Robles (4-1, 1 KO) over six rounds. 160-pounder Troy Isley (2-0, 1 KO) stunned LaQuan Evans (4-2, 2 KOs) in a fourth-round stoppage win. Kasir Goldston (3-0, 1 KO), a third-generation boxer from Albany, New York, scored a shutout victory of Maurice Anthony (3-2, 3 KOs) in a six-round, 147-pound bout. Welterweight Jahi Tucker (4-0, 2 KOs) outboxed Ysrael Barboza (3-2-1, 3 KOs) over four rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory. Share this story - -

East Lynne Theater Company presents "Arsenic and Old Lace"
Murder! Mayhem! Madcap fun! Meet the Brewsters! The Equity professional East Lynne Theater Company presents "Arsenic and Old Lace" from July 25 through September 1, Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:00 PM, at the First Presbyterian Church of Cape May, 500 Hughes Street, where ELTC is in residence.
The Brewster sisters live in Brooklyn, offering rooms-to-rent, while populating their cellar with the remains of "acceptable" lodgers. The nephew who lives with them thinks he's Teddy Roosevelt, another nephew is running from the law, and the third nephew is a theater critic who is recently engaged to the "girl next door." Written by Joseph Kesselring, this 1941 Broadway comedy hit is family entertainment at its looniest!
Photo: The cast of East Lynne Theater Company's "Arsenic and Old Lace" on the first day of rehearsal: Jeff Sharkey, Kegan Witzki, Paul Battiato, Morgan J. Nichols, Thomas Raniszewski, Bob Reader, Jennifer Flynn, Scott Harrison, Suzanne Dawson, Gayle Stahlhuth, and Rob LeMaire. Photo credit: Michael Beebe
The original production, produced by the playwrighting team of Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, ran on Broadway for 1,444 performances, and in London, 1,337 performances, making it the longest running American play in England at that time. The 1944 film, directed by Frank Capra is a comedy classic.
The sisters are played by Suzanne Dawson and Gayle Stahlhuth, both familiar to ELTC. Dawson’s NY credits include "CBS Live" and "The Last Musical," and she toured nationally in "Rumors” and "Last of the Red Hot Lovers." Stahlhuth has also performed in NY and national touring productions and has produced over 100 shows for ELTC since becoming its artistic director in 1999.
Their nephews are Mortimer, played by Scott Harrison, Jonathan played by Paul Battiato, and Rob LeMaire is Teddy. Harrison was recently in ELTC's "On the Sunny Side of the Street," "Widower's House" at the Washington Stage Guild and "Fiddler on the Roof" at Arena Stage. Battiato's NY credits include "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Frankenstein," and regionally, he was in "A Man for All Seasons" and "Present Laughter." Rob LeMaire has been in ELTC productions since 2001, and for the last two years has directed shows for the company’s Summer Student Workshop. Shows he's directed for the Ocean City High School Drama Guild include "Addams Family: A New Musical," "Stage Door," and "Spamalot."
Mortimer’s fiancé, Elaine, is played by Jennifer Flynn, who graduated from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, has performed in NY, and spent time in Los Angeles, where she studied with David Mamet and produced and appeared in several theater, film, and online productions. Morgan J. Nichols, making his fourth appearance at ELTC, portrays Jonathan’s sidekick, Dr. Einstein. Recently he's landed roles in CBS's "Blue Bloods" and HBO's "Vinyl."
Thomas Raniszewski, who's been performing with ELTC since 2005, was in the world premiere of "Dying Like Ignacio" in NY, and "The Twentieth-Century Way" in Philadelphia. He portrays several roles including Mr. Gibbs, who is looking to rent a room from the Brewster sisters. Bob Reader, who plays Mr. Witherspoon, the head of a sanitarium, created the Butchers’ Guild Theatre Company in Orange County NY, and was its producer and director from 1993-2005, while he was a professor at The College of Insurance in NYC.
Two police officers are on hand: Klein is played by Jeff Sharkey and O'Hara is Kegan Witzki. Sharkey's TV/film credits include roles in the Investigation Discovery Channel's series "True Crime," and on-stage he's performed with the Margate Players. Witzki recently received his M.A. in Classical Acting at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), where he performed in "Macbeth," "The Way of the World," and other classics.
Gayle Stahlhuth is directing "Arsenic and Old Lace," and Rob LeMaire is the assistant director.
The opening night after-show party on July 25 is at Aleathea’s at The Inn of Cape May, 7 Ocean Street. The after-show Q&A is on August 3.
There are only a few performances left of the toe-tapping hit musical revue, "On the Sunny Side of the Street," running through July 21 only. Tickets for both shows are $35 general admission, $30 for seniors (age 65 and over), $20 for full-time students and military (active/retired/veteran), and anyone age 12 and under is free. People freak out over Shaun White's Olympic win, but it's not the only thing they're talking about
Snowboarder Shaun White has cemented his place as one of the sport's greatest of all time — but some old accusations have joined the moment.
The 31-year-old Californian won his third Olympic gold medal at the men's halfpipe event on Tuesday, achieving a medal-winning feat which no other snowboarder has attained.
SEE ALSO: What is Team OAR and why are they in the Olympics?
After taking the initial lead, White stumbled in his second run which allowed Japan's Ayumu Hirano to overtake him with the difficult-to-beat score of 95.25.
And so, a run of remarkable proportions was required: White delivered right at the death, winning with a score of 97.75. The emotion is no short of palpable.

It's been an incredible comeback for White. He finished fourth in the same event at the 2014 Winter Olympics, and required 62 stitches after slamming his face into a superpipe while training in New Zealand back in October.
The injury nearly cost White another Olympics, but here we are, and there were plenty of people who shared their elation for him on Twitter.
SPOLIER ALERT: congrats to @shaunwhite on a most legendary performance. I know how much it meant to you and how hard you worked for that last run. We are all incredibly proud. 🥇🥇🥇

White's win has also brought to the surface sexual harassment accusations that have been previously laid against the snowboarder.
Lena Zawaideh, formerly a drummer in White's band Bad Things, claimed the snowboarder made vulgar remarks and forced her to watch "sexually disturbing videos," according to USA Today. The pair settled in May 2017, not that people have stopped talking about it.
Two things are simultaneously true: -Shaun White just put down a monster run for a gold medal -Shaun White was accused of disturbing sexual harassment by the ex-drummer of his band He’s like so many athletes: talented, complicated, human. Doer of awesome & also awful things.
