[Thoughts on True Love From a Roadside Ride-Or-Die Grappling with Grief]

I lost my grandfather in February. One hour past Valentine’s Day. He loved Johnny Cash and the open road. He loved sitting still by the water and watching the pole dance until he landed the day’s record rainbow trout. He liked to watch the sun lower, beer in hand, rocking a creaking chair slow. He was a patient and quiet man with a kind soul. I’m sure he’s back beside my grandmother now, wherever it is that souls go. I don’t really think they go anywhere, truth be told.

She was a woman who was clever, big-hearted, and bold. In her light he was not shadowed. It only illuminated further that he too shone. He knew the brightness of her being did not diminish his own. Let her be herself, free, in flow. I like to think I am a blend of both. An embodiment of a lesson in love they had long known. Into mine own spirit they are sewn. Here is a song they’d sing to each through sassy smiles; neither in tune though. The lyrics depict a quarrel; but if you listen closely all you can hear is the the thump thump thump of hearts still beating Eros.
