I feel like Kenny and Pip are an underrated duo. They both have some of the rockiest home lives in the series and have to deal with poverty and malnourishment, but they experience it in different ways. Also despite the circumstances Pip grew up with, he maintains a proper appearance while Kenny has absurdly terrible hygiene. There's also potential for a popular x bullied dynamic (though unpopular x bullied is just as likely. Kenny's popularity fluctuates a lot)

Read the story ‘the family you choose by TunaFishChris’ good story set in ATLA but when I finished reading it my brain threw more plot bunnies at me. Help.

Same soulmates verse but its ozai not azulon who burns zukos off, azulon does have one but its on his head covered by hair n it was for his wife so when she dies azulon goes a little mad n as this was during ozais formulation years n while iroh is away its no surprise that ozai ends up like he does. Half natural inclination n half nurture or lack there of. Sozin was soulmates with roku, loosing him n being partly responsible got rid of any sanity he still had thus war n genocide with gusto. Ozai is the only born royal with no marks n sees it as a strength, zuko gets his down his spine for his soul family always having his back n such. Ozai nearly cripples zuko getting rid of them. Lala (is easier n faster to write) gets her marks when she is with zuko, zuko is always with her, mum told him that he was a big brother n that big brothers looked after their little siblings, zuko loves his little sister, he takes her everywhere. So when her mark appear he very quickly covers them, takes them to a discreet doc in town to get cover cream for her n starts teaching her to NEVER talk about them to anyone but him, not mother not father, no one. It works the cream n the where they appear on the body mean she is not found out by ozai. This changes alot. Once azulon gets his mind back after his wifes death he is tired of war but realises that no one will believe him wanting to end the war, he looks at his sons, iroh has too much blood on his hands n likes fighting too much to be the one to take over from him. Ozai is too cruel, twisted n power hungry for it to be him. Lu ten is promising but after talking with him (under the pretences of teaching him royal politics, laws n other things that the presumed heir would need to know) azulon discovers that lu ten does not want to rule and to force him to do so would only make him resent the throne. Lu ten suggests zuko instead, zuko loves the nation n the ppl, zuko is a naturally caring n protective person, zuko already sneaks out n mingles with citizens who can’t seem to help loving him, he just draws everyone in. Lu ten suggests having zuko (and lala if zuzu is there so is she) attend these lessons with azulon n Lu ten the excuse given to allow it is that zuko is to be trained to be Lu tens advisor when he is firelord. Its the other way round really but no one else needs to know that yet, zuko can be the lord, Lu ten n lala the advisors. Lu ten is the one keeps the farce going n keeps the target for assassination on his back rather than his little cousins. Lu ten is reported dead at ba sing se but is alive just so injured n with amnesia, possibly also damage to his chi so he can’t bend. Is picked up by the boulder who was an army soldier but leaves after that battle as he can’t stand to see that much blood anymore. Lu ten has soul marks but they hang on his skin like a very log hanging belt no one is going to notice them unless he gets naked. Growing up zuko n lala discover they r soul mates, lala is far more stable as she knows her brother will always love her no matter what she does n without conditions like father. She still is terrifying but she is loyal to zuko n only plays at being loyal to ozai. When Lu ten is reported dead n ozai makes a play for the throne azulon sees his chance n when says ozai must lose a son, he doesn’t want zuko dead, he plans to remove zuko from ozai family line register n either take him in as his own son or to have iroh take zuko in. Either way zuko was never going to die. Lala not knowing this is scared her only person will be taken from her goes to mother as even though mother doesn’t love her she loves zuko n will be willing to protect him, that done she goes n spends the night with zuko in case father sends assassins. Ursa makes the poison n gives it to ozai n then runs, it isn’t fatal poison she is hoping that ozai will mess up, azulon to survive but proof that ozai tried to kill him will see ozai either in prison till he dies or being executed for treason. Either way zuko is safe from his father n azulon can’t kill zuko as he will be the only remaining male heir, ozai dead, iroh too old to have more children n azula being too young n too female for most of the war counsellors to take seriously. Ozai adds something of his own to the poison, not completely trusting ursa (I wonder y) the poison ends up stimulating death long enough for azulon to be declared dead, ozai crowned n shit started. Azulons body is secreted away by a small group of loyal followers n his health slowly, very slowly returns, he is an OLD man even if the poison doesn’t kill him it does still kick his ass a bit. Ozai ups his campaign to get rid of zuko, lala quickly becomes VERY good at acting, manipulation n fighting to counter this n keep her dum dum alive, zuko becomes paranoid as hell but reaches new heights in stealth, weaponry n first aid. Lala is counting down the days till she has a valid excuse to kill ozai. Azulon is pissed as hell that he can’t do anything from where he is apart from try to help zuko as much as he can by sending ppl he trusts to teach him n look after him. Iroh comes back n really throws a spanner in the works, dismissing his fathers ppl from around zuko, in the (how many??) months that he is back before zuko is shipped out has the highest number of nearly successful assassination attempts on zuko since ursa left. Ozai is not impressed (that they failed), lala is adding uncles name to her shit list, azulon is just mystified as to how his son who is a supposedly great tactician can be so damn stupid.

Then the agni kai happens n azulon is too pissed off at ozai to care about iroh anymore. Azula is leaving with zuko “as otherwise his only example of fire bending will be uncle father n really even dum dum is better than that, besides then if zuko dishonours the family I can kill him straight away.” She has spent too long keeping him alive now for him to ruin all her efforts now. Zuko still has the same soul mates but also has the marks for Lu ten, azula n yue. Azula has zuko, toph n yue. Lu ten has zuko, azula n boulder at the least. Toph has azula added to her group. 6 months after zuko is banished azulon manages to find their location n reach them before they leave, takes over teaching them again n rips iroh several new ones while the crew watches in awe n horror. Azulon finds out about zukos marks n what ozai did n nearly sinks the ship in his rage, lala is glad to find someone else to help her keep zuko alive even if she doesn’t fully trust him, the only one who gets that treasure is zuko. With azulon backing his thoughts about stopping the war n to start helping the ppl of his nation zuko is different by the time aang gets freed, he n lala (im still coming with u dum dum) start working with the gaang earlier n things go smoother? The fire royals end up going to the northern city with them where they meet yue, she n azula bond, azula teaches her to be terrifying, azulon just watches n makes cutting remarks on how stupid the norths misogyny is n just how under prepared they r for anything really, the small fleet of their southern sisters tribe could lay seige, win n not loose more than maybe 5 ppl n they r all non benders. Water ppl being pissed that they can’t kill azulon due to him not being fire lord anymore n is just a doting grandfather really look at how harmless n unarmed I am, they have no claimable vendetta to excuse their killing him as lawful by tribe standards, as the tribe isolated itself n has had no real damage from azulon, also he has already been declared dead which is throwing them a little. Hahn being stupid enough to try n take azulon on, azulons bitch face is epic n lala vows to replicate it one day. Political marriage betrothal between yue n zuko? This azulon is a mix of grumpy old man, sarcastic little shit n im-too-fabulous-for-this attitude. When they find toph is also when they find boulder n Lu ten, zuko n azula bond with him n that breaks the amnesia n katara might be able to help heal his chi?

Continued from Part 1:

Again, bless Big Bro Xichen for being such a diligent matchmaker for his little brother and suggesting the cold springs to Wei Ying. I think I just about freaked out the first time I saw the bathing scene: not having read the novel yet at the time, I was totally caught off guard by it and I just couldn’t believe what was happening. Of course now, in retrospect, it’s really pretty tame, considering they were supposed to be naked (BLESS the donghua for keeping that detail in). However, what the drama lacked in nudity it definitely more than made up for in character development and relationship building by adding the subsequent sequence in the cave. Aside from the cute marriage reference (kneeling and bowing before ancestor), ALL of Lan Zhan’s fears for Wei Ying were basically BORN in that cave, thanks to Lan Yi and Xue Chonghai’s backstories involving the yin metal (which was also an invention of the show since in the book it was only the Stygian Tiger Seal). He probably regarded their unfortunate fates as cautionary tales at first, but then as soon as he thought Wei Ying was treading their same path to darkness, their stories instantly became all too real possibilities for Wei Ying’s future.   Just thinking about how afraid Lan Zhan must’ve been for Wei Ying makes my heart hurt, and what makes things worse is that in the end, he shared a more similar fate with Xue Chonghai than Lan Yi. Even though she spent the rest of her life and beyond essentially imprisoned in the cave, at least her passing was a more peaceful one and the legacy she left behind was more respectable. Unlike Xue Chonghai, who basically died a villain, which is pretty much how the cultivation world viewed Wei Ying when he died. I can’t stop thinking about how much Lan Zhan probably tortured himself emotionally during the 16 years after Wei Ying’s death, no doubt ceaselessly blaming himself for not doing enough to save Wei Ying. The fact that he was already presented with these two examples of what could happen to those overpowered by the yin metals so early on in their relationship probably only served to further exacerbate his sense of guilt during that decade and half.  

Really, thank God Wei Ying came back. I sometimes think of the alternative and the notion is just so bleak to me that I actually start tearing up. In fact, I’m tearing up now since the thought is crossing my mind again. Damn, I need to talk about happier things pronto.

I think if Wei Ying never came along, Lan Zhan probably would’ve happily spent the rest of this life as a bachelor since, according to his own words, he shuns physical contact with others and isn’t too keen on getting married anyway.  The funny thing is, I don’t really think of Lan Zhan as being gay in the traditional sense either because I simply can’t see him being attracted to anyone else other than Wei Ying.  He’s really just Wei Ying-sexual as far as I’m concerned. And it’s not because I’m just being a romantic, but it’s more like, I don’t see Lan Zhan as the type of person who would want to get close to anyone or even feels like he needs to be close to anyone. His familial relationships with his uncle and brother would’ve been sufficient for him; he probably considers social relationships with outsiders more of a nuisance. While he’s courteous enough to others when he needs to be, I think that’s due to upbringing rather than actual concern. And yet, despite Lan Zhan’s nature, Wei Ying still found a way to permanently wedge himself into his life and get close to him. I really appreciate the time and care the live action took to show us just how Wei Ying did that by creating events like their drunkapades from the night before and now their shared experience in the cave. In the novel it was definitely more subtle.  

I mean, do I really need to say anything about this other than I love? Especially how the camera kept on focusing on the ribbon, as if they were worried we would forget about it if they cut away too soon. Of course it’s utterly sweet of Lan Zhan to so quickly and easily give up his ribbon to protect Wei Ying. He didn’t even think twice, despite how significant the ribbon is to him. I still don’t think this is the point where he fell in love yet, but at least he’s starting to care enough about the other man to not want him to perish by Chord Assassination.

Wei Ying was definitely happy about it, look at that big smile.   

Meanwhile, other ships were launching

I seriously cannot believe that Jin Zixuan still wanted to call off the wedding to Shijie after they shared THIS totally romantic moment. He was obviously a little smitten already, so what the hell was he thinking? Shijie is so beautiful and sweet and just awesome. Should’ve been love at first sight, and yet he still had the heart to try to dump her after this. Dumbass.

I pretty much was on board with this ship as soon as Lan Yi mentioned Baoshan Sanren and their close relationship. Seeing them together only further reinforced my commitment. Of course I find it utterly sad that they didn’t have a happy ending together, though I do wonder why Baoshan Sanren didn’t try to seek out Lan Yi again afterwards. Was she just so disappointed in Lan Yi for not heeding her warning that she simply didn’t want to ever see her again? That’s equally heart-breaking. Or maybe, by the time she decided to turn back and help Lan Yi, it was already too late: her corporeal form had already dissipated because of the Yin metal and she was nothing but a spirit trapped in that cave. Perhaps that’s why Baoshan decided to become a hermit and wander the world alone. That’s somehow even worst. Truly, they are what Lan Zhan and Wei Ying could’ve been if Lan Zhan had given up on him as soon as he acquired his powers at the Burial Mounds. I wish we could get some kind of prequel for Lan Yi and Baoshan Sanren, like as a special, since there is definitely a moving love story to be found there, despite its sad ending. It would have to be created from nothing of course, since Lan Yi was little more than a quick name-drop in the novel. But since I love Lan Yi because she’s portrayed by Carman Lee and the actress who plays Baoshan Sanren (Liu Ting Yu) is also beautiful…

…I wanted to see more of them. Especially during the more glorious times of their careers. Hell, a whole series can be made just centered around Lan Yi alone, and how she, as the first and only female sect leader in the Gusu Lan Sect, rose to her position and the many obstacles she had to face on the way up and even afterwards, before the whole Yin metal mess even came into her life. Of course Wei Ying and Lan Zhan wouldn’t be a part of the story at all, which is a shame but understandable, but I still wish we could have that series.

Questions I still Have (mostly nitpicky crap cuz I’m annoying that way)

Is that a submarine I see on the bottom there?  Or maybe it’s just a bubble maker. But seriously, what pulled Lan Zhan and Wei Ying underwater? Was it just currents? Magic? Cuz it was shot like some kind of sea monster violently tugged them underneath.

I honestly still don’t understand the geography of the cold springs. Can a mostly dry cave (save for a knee level pool) exist under the water like that? Especially when it looks to be on a lower level than the bottom of the spring? Feels…impossible. Is it all because of magic?

Only that one bunny at the top got the protective Gusu Lan head ribbon; didn’t the other bunnies beneath it deserve the same protection? Poor things.

How long will they last? - They seem pretty stable to me! I can see them growing old together.

How quickly did/will they fall in love? - Over the course of three support conversations? Haha, I’m kidding. I feel like this one was a bit of a slower burn– Robin was at first so focused on the task of finding Minerva a mate that he didn’t really give his growing feelings for Cherche much thought… Then the date was arranged, and they hit him like a truck.

How was their first kiss? - A little clumsy on Robin’s end due to lack of experience – or memory of said experience – but sweet. They probably bumped noses and Robin got embarrassed and apologized for it.

Wedding:

Who proposed? - Robin! Gotta love the irony of trying to find a mate for Minerva, only to end up proposing to her partner. (Those supports are really cute…)

Who is the best man/men? - Chrom, definitely! Other notable groomsmen would probably include Gaius, Virion, Gregor, and Henry. ( Because even if I’m not actively shipping them I really like Robin and Henry being close friends fight me. Same goes for Cherche and Gregor. )

Who are the bridesmaid(s)? - Going off who Cherche supports with… Nowi and Miriel would likely be on the list. If a female Robin is present as a sort of twin AU or other shenanigans, her too.

Who did the most planning? - Robin. It’s in his nature. Not that Cherche skimped out on helping, of course– But the tactician is the one who definitely stayed up later fine tuning every little detail.

Who stressed the most? - Definitely Robin. He wanted everything to be absolutely perfect for his beloved.

How fancy was the ceremony? - Back of a pickup truck | 2 | 3 | 4 | Normal Church Wedding | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | Kate and William wish they were this big. ( Cherche is a noblewoman in the service of House Virion– While they may marry during wartime, that ceremony is incredibly simple and heartfelt with only the Shepherds as witnesses… But after the war, there’s a second ceremony so that her family and loved ones in Rosanne might celebrate her marriage as well. That one, while not quite as extravagant as Virion’s own vows, is definitely much grander! )

Who was specifically not invited to the wedding? - I don’t think they’re the sort of people to turn people away. Anyone willing to come was welcome.

Sex:

Who is on top? - It depends! Robin is more submissive by nature, so it probably defers more to what Cherche wants than anything. 

Who is the one to instigate things? - It depends on the night. Usually Cherche, though. 

How healthy is their sex life? - Barely touch themselves let alone each other | 2 | 3 | 4 | Once a couple weeks, nothing overboard | 6 | 7 | 8 | 9 | They are humping each other on the couch right now

How many children will they adopt? - Maybe one, if they decided they wanted to!

Who gets stuck with the most diapers? -

Who is the stricter parent? - Cherche– Though Gerome and his siblings know very well that getting their father angry is a Very. Bad. Idea.

Who stops the kid(s) from doing dangerous stunts after school? - Both of them! It mostly depends on who’s around to catch the kids at the time– In a modern AU if Gerome and the Morgans end up attending the high school Robin teaches at, however, it will shift to him purely because he’d see them more often.

Who remembers to pack the lunch(es)? - Cherche– She probably makes their lunches in the morning, so remembering to pack it is only natural.

Who is the more loved parent? - I think they’d be more equally loved! Gerome being Gerome is distant with both of them, but he does care deeply for both of his parents. The Morgan twins remember Robin better but quickly attach to Cherche upon reunion.

Who is more likely to attend the PTA meetings? - Assuming Robin’s not busy with his own the night of, Cherche. Otherwise he’ll try to go with her.

Who cried the most at graduation? - Robin. Definitely Robin.

Who is more likely to bail the child(ren) out of trouble with the law? - Robin will bail them out… Then turn the kids over to their mother.

Cooking:

Who does the most cooking? - Cherche! She’s… A much better chef than Robin, that’s for sure.

Who is the most picky in their food choice? - I don’t see either of them as particularly fussy, but maybe Cherche? She is from a noble house and all.

Who does the grocery shopping? - Both of them! They’ll go together. If only one has time, probably Cherche.

How often do they bake desserts? - Often enough– Baking is something Robin’s actually decent at, and he’s got a sweet tooth to boot. Yeah… Sweets are definitely always in supply in their household. Nobody tell Gaius.

Are they more of a meat lover or a salad eater? - Robin’s not too fussy, but he does prefer meat dishes– But once again, he’ll defer to Cherche’s desires. He’d rather she be happy!

Who is more likely to surprise the other(s) with an anniversary dinner? - Robin would try… And mess everything up… And get super frustrated over it…

Who is more likely to suggest going out? - Robin, most likely. 

Who is more likely to burn the house down accidently while cooking? - Robin… Robin, please…

Chores:

Who cleans the room? - They both keep it tidy! But Cherche is probably the one who detail cleans when she has time.

Who is really against chores? - …Neither of them? If I had to pick, it’d be Robin purely because his mind is in a million different places all the time.

Who cleans up after the pets? - Minerva is not a pet. Buuut she’s Cherche’s partner, so Cherche takes on the responsibility. In a modern au, they would split it– Cherche and Gerome worry over the modern equivalent to Minerva, Robin and the Morgans take care of the cat I see him having.

Who is more likely to sweep everything under the rug? - … Robin.

Who stresses the most when guests are coming over? - Cherche! Unless it’s for some huge occasion, in which case it’s Robin.

Who found a dollar between the couch cushions while cleaning? - Honestly? Probably the kids! 

Misc:

Who takes the longer showers/baths? - Cherche, I think! 

Who takes the dog out for a walk? - I imagine Robin would, unless Minerva is the dog somehow. Then it’s Cherche. Alternatively, that chore falls to the kids.

How often do they decorate the room/house for the holidays? - Every year, I think. Usually two or three weeks before the holiday in question! 

What are their goals for the relationship? - Honestly? To grow old together and raise a wonderful family.

Who is most likely to sleep till noon? - Robin, if he’s been up incredibly late working on his battle plans.

Who plays the most pranks? - …Surprisingly enough I feel like that would be Cherche.
