15. Do you prefer writing one-shots or multi-chapter fics?
I tend to prefer writing one-shots! I love to read multi-chapter fics, but I always get so worried that I'll lose motivation and just, never come back to it :') My first fic on AO3 is loosely a multi-chapter, in the sense that I've left it open to return to someday, but haven't had any interest to pick it back up in years lol. There's something very punchy about one-shots as well - I have a pretty solid split between short and long one-shots, but it's so satisfying when I Finally have a long one finished!
I also like making connected one-shots, or sequential one-shots, but letting them stand on their own so?
32. What’s a fic you’d love to write, but probably never will?
I think I had a Vargas fic idea at one point that I so badly wanted to read but didn't want to write, and made some concept sketches and an outline for and everything lol - something with the Jake/Edgar/Scriabin dynamic ♥ I do know that someone made a missing scene-fic about Scriabin and Jake's first interaction that I've been quietly making eyes at - next time I'm into Vargas for sure 👀
As for love to write, hm... Probably this overly-convoluted Osmosis Jones NTR fic that I've had in my back pocket for way too long honestly lol - ever since I learned about netorare they were my first and only choice but it's so all-hurt-no-comfort and kinda dark and sad and while it sounds really fun, the self-consciousness monster in the back of my head is like "Really? The White Blood Cell Movie? For that?" lol
#Woah an original post#Ask#Thank you! :D#It's funny 'cause I start a lot of WIPs and then the next WIP will be inspired by a previous one and I'll just be sitting here like#Well I have to finish this one first. I can't post this one even if it's done sooner. Oh no#Cough cough has already happened check out my DW for my Helix technically-a-standalone-but-actually-a-sequel fic lol#I have like...three SCII fics that are like that lol#I'm getting close to finishing one of them tho! Like 80% done!#And then there's my KoiBo therapy fic that I started before getting therapy and has just been...sitting there lol#I started the second chapter on it and I really like the intro but it feels so scattered after that haha#As for the other two I just want to see more Jake because I'm love him <3#Before I read I kinda wanna get all my own speculations out of my system just so it's Out and I'm Good lol#But I gotta be into Vargas for that to happen so back-back burnered lol#And then the OJ fic lol - I have made some concept sketches about it! I genuinely think it's interesting#But it is also very funny to me that Most of my OJ ideas are very dark and Really skirt that line of like ''Is this okay??'' lol#I think it's because I read some very dark OJ fics at a - formative? time in my life lol#Maybe I will at some point - I'll stop pushing it around my plate and actually dive in someday lol#For now I reallyyyy want to finish the SCII fics that I keep accumulating lol#I started a new Helix fic the other day..................... It's fine I'm fine it's not a problem I'll definitely finish it >.>#SCII#Vargas#OJ#Lol

Your Voice - Chapter 1.
Pairing Travis Kelce x Reader
Words 1118
Warnings Strong language, that's all.
This Anon request piqued my interest as I used to read a lot of Soulmate AU fanfiction 'back in the day' and I really liked this idea! AU's give me so much creative freedom...and a chance to go back to college Travis!! Now, I wasn't going to make this a series but as I was writing, I realised it is going to have to be as I had a great idea for it! I hope you enjoy! "Can I request a Travis k x soulmate au? pls 😩"
CHAPTER 1
"What did your Soulmate say today?"
You looked up from your lunch, pausing from pushing a piece of lettuce around the plate with your fork.
"Go long, man." You rolled your eyes as you repeated what you had heard earlier that day, "I'm honestly past caring at this point."
Chloe clapped her hands and jumped a little in her seat, "So, he's a sports guy? Maybe we should scope out the teams and see if you recognise anyone's voice?"
You sighed, "Chloe, I really don't care anymore. I've been hearing his voice for 3 months now. This college is huge, it would take me forever to find him here. Plus, some days I can't even make out what he's saying, it's so faint and muffled, I doubt I'd even recognise it."
Chloe twisted her mouth as she thought, "I could get us some invites to the jock parties?"
"You're not listening to me at all are you, are you?" You returned to your salad.
"We'll get you looking super hot, see if the voice gets louder at any of them, get talking to guys and then before you know it, you've found your Soulmate!"
"No, then." You said whilst chewing on your chicken.
Chloe reached across and held your hand, "But this is so exciting. Think of poor me, Y/N. My Soulmates voice was so loud back home, I come here and now I can't hear him at all. You've actually got a chance of meeting yours, he's obviously here! So, let's go and find him."
You stared across the lunch table at her, your face unchanging.
Chloe slowly retreated back into her seat and picked up her Diet Coke can, "Okay. I'll try again later."
______________________________________________________________
You stretched in your seat, rubbing your eyes and looking down at your watch.
10.15pm.
You ran your hands through your hair and closed your study books and files, calling it a night. Looking around the library, you noticed that you were now the only one there. You packed your backpack and slung it over your shoulder. The campus was relatively quiet as you walked back to your dormitory, the night sky quickly darkening with the dusk. Your footsteps rang out into the night, accompanied only occasionally with muffled music coming from the nearby houses. Suddenly, a tall figure appeared ahead. You instinctively grabbed the strap of your backpack, ready to launch the heavy contents if needed. Each step seemed to get louder in your ears and the sky darkened further.
As you got closer, the figure turned to face you and the dim streetlights revealed the stranger.
"Oh, Travis. It's just you." You sighed in relief.
Travis Kelce wasn't a complete stranger to you. He was a pretty big character on campus, but didn't exactly run in your circles. He was holding a bottle of beer and was stood on the steps of one of the sorority houses, presumably having stepped outside from a party.
Travis smiled as he saw you, "Hey, Y/N. You coming in?" He pointed towards the front door with his bottle.
You shook your head quickly, "Oh no, I've been to the library."
"On a Saturday night?" He snorted a laugh, "Man, you know how to party."
You quickly raised your eyebrows, "Yeah, anyway. I'm just heading home."
Travis wrinkled his nose, "On your own? Nah, fuck that."
You held a hand up, "Really, it's fine. It's a short walk, like 2 minutes. I'm okay walking by myself."
"To hell you are. Come on, I'll walk you back, make sure you get there safe." He began to walk away from you.
"Travis, really-"
He stopped and turned back slowly, "Either you walk with me or I follow 20 yards behind you."
You smiled and sighed, "Okay, okay. Fine."
As you caught up to him, you heard the front door of the house open and a high-pitched voice shouted out.
"Travvy, baby? Where are you going?"
Tiffany, Travis' girlfriend was gripping onto the side of the door frame, seemingly to keep herself upright. She had bleached blonde hair, a modelesque figure and the reputation as one of the most popular girls on campus.
You stayed looking ahead to the sidewalk as Travis looked over his shoulder at her, "I'm just walking Y/N back to her dorm."
"Why?" Tiffany squeaked.
"Why? Because she's walking on her own and there's creeps out there." He shouted.
You glanced quickly to see Tiffany pull a face before slamming the door closed.
Travis turned back to you and raised his eyebrows.
"Really Travis, you go back to the party. I don't want to cause any issues with you and Tiffany."
"What issue? I'm just walking you home...to make sure you're safe." He cleared his throat, "Besides, Tiffany has an issue with everything I do."
You walked together in a slightly awkward silence, Travis taking a sip of his beer every now and again.
After a while, Travis turned to you, "Can I ask you a question?"
You nodded.
"Can you hear your Soulmate's voice?"
You smiled softly, "Sometimes yeah. Sometimes it's really loud, but it's mostly muffled so I can't make it out easily. Sometimes it's really quiet and it's impossible to figure out."
He looked down at his feet, "That's weird. I wonder why it's muffled."
You shrugged your shoulders, "No clue. I wish we got more, it would make it so much easier."
"Yeah, one sentence a day sucks."
You walked in silence for a few more steps.
"Is Tiffany your Soulmate?"
Travis laughed, "Nah. She's cool and all...but she's not...no."
"Are you looking for your Soulmate?"
Travis tipped his head to the side, "In a way. I mean, I hear her voice. And I listen for it as much as I can. But I'm so busy with class and football that sometimes I miss it. That's why I was outside of the party, I needed a bit of quiet time to see if I could hear her."
You looked ahead to the tall building, slowly your walking pace slightly, "This is me."
Travis looked up, "Oh, that was fast."
"Yeah, I told you it was two minutes." You giggled.
Travis rocked back on his heels, "Well, goodnight. I'd better get back to..." He trailed off as he looked back in the direction of the party, a slight frown on his face.
"Yeah. Thank you...for walking me back." You awkwardly held your hand out to Travis.
Travis looked at your hand and smirked, grabbing it tightly, "No sweat. I'll see you around?"
You nodded and headed to the front door, turning your key in the lock and stepping in. Travis watched as you disappeared into the lobby, smiling to himself.
______________________________________________________________
I'll warn you now, this fic is going to get real fluffy, real soon. I've had the idea of the chapters alternating between the point of views. So, the next chapter will be from Travis' perspective and then from the readers, and so on. If you want to be on my Taglist, just let me know!

Kinktober 2024 - October 18th
Cockring or Plugs // Foot Fettish // Massaging
Travis 'Trapper' Beasley x Fem!Reader
Rating: 18+, explicit
Word count: 1.3k
Warnings: vaginal sex, creampie (wrap it up folks)
Kinktober List || Masterlist || AO3
You collapse down into the sofa, exhausted after another day in Hollow Earth, wincing as you do so. Most of the time you've been hauling heavy equipment around, taking samples, changing gas cannisters, getting firewood... and it was taking its toll on your body.
Trapper leans against the doorway, finishing up his pasta dish you had prepared earlier for the two of you.
Naturally, being in close proximity for this long, you formed a relationship. Fortunately, you both got on like a house on fire from the start, sharing similar quirks like which way you hang the loo roll. Plus, Trapper was attractive, of course.
No one above the surface knew about your relationship, which excited you in a way. Honestly, you're surprised they let you and Trapper be assigned together and for so long. You promised you would stay professional, which you did at first. But it was rough, I mean how could you not fall for him? He's like a walking quirky Prince Charming.
"Rough day?", Trapper says in-between mouthfuls.
"Hrmph," is all you can manage to speak. Even your throat hurts. Your head lulls back from the sofa, rubbing your eyes.
Trapper walks over to the sofa and sits down on the cushion next to you, feeling the weight shift underneath you.
"You know... I'm a trained masseur", Trapper points his fork at you, before digging in for another bite.
You stop rubbing your eyes and sit up. The room spinning slightly from getting up too quickly.
"You're fucking with me", you narrow your eyes at him.
"Well, I mean I've never actually been a masseur exactly, but I have the qualifications", Trapper puts the plate down on the side table.
Oh shit, he is serious. You raise an eyebrow.
"Oh... is this gonna be one of those massages with a happy ending?", you tease.
"Only if you want it to be", he winks at you.
You push him playfully away from you as he laughs. There's a moment of pause. Trapper looks at you, sincerely this time, waiting for an answer.
"Okay then", you smile back.
"Great, maybe have a shower, unwind your muscles a bit, and I'll meet you back here?"
"Okay", you nod before leaving the room.
---
Fresh out of the shower, you tousle your hair dry, before wrapping the towel around your body.
As you enter the living room, you're greeted to relaxing music playing on the Alexa. Trapper has really made an effort. He has put the sofa down into a bed position and turned off the main light, putting on the small lamps and fairy lights that you rarely use.
"Ah, my last client of the day, please, make yourself comfortable face down on the...uh...table. You can use your towel to cover your modesty".
You smile at him before he turns around, giving you some space.
The room smells great, various vanilla candles lit, their light dancing off the walls. He's even put a sheet and a pillow down on the sofa so the buttons don't dig into you.
You let Trapper know that you're ready and he spins around.
"I'll work on your back first, safe to say this is the problem area?"
"Mmhmm", your voice is muffled into the sofa.
"Let me know if I go too deep, okay?"
You hum in acknowledgement as Trapper starts rubbing lotion into his hands.
"Oh, also pop this on."
He hands you a purple eye mask, fresh out of the fridge. You put the cold jelly onto your face, soothing your irritated eyes almost immediately.
You can feel Trapper's hands slowly start to massage deep into your back. His fingers kneeding, trying to unwind the tension.
"Oh, you really are tense."
He finds a particular knot and works at it, your body moving upwards with the force. You groan as he does so.
"I'm I going too deep?"
You're too zoned out to care at this point, honestly it feels like he's barely grazed you.
"Hrmph no...deeper."
Trapper doesn't have to be told twice, as he masaages the knot upwards, before working at your shoulders. His fingertips turn white digging deep into your muscles. You start to pick up the smell of lavender on Trapper's hands, massaging the lotion into you.
"Ah yeah right there", you melt into his grip as he hits a particularly sensitive spot.
"Yeah?"
"Mmhmm."
Your ministrations are a huge turn on for Trapper. His mind wandering everytime you moan when he hits a tense pressure point.
His hands travel back down your body as he uses his palms to tackle the sides of your body, down towards your lower back. His fingers ghosting above the towel line.
"Here?"
"Mmm", you mumble in agreement, giving him permission to go further downwards.
The towel slides onto the floor. Trapper's hands immediately caress your cheeks. His palms tracing the sides of your hips, pushing deep into the muscles, before trailing down to your thighs, slowly moving your legs apart.
There's a long moment of silence, you're imagining Trapper admiring the sight of you, still slightly damp from the shower, totally relaxed, like putty in his hands.
The sound of Trapper's belt hitting the floor snaps you back to reality, followed by the crumpling of his clothes.
His hand rests on the small of your back as the sofa dips down with his weight. You help him position into you by lifting your hips up slightly, allowing him in.
He grips the side of your hips before pushing his cock into you. He exhales, remaining inside you as his hands push down on your back, forcing your body to relax as his grip moves upwards, following the curve of your back.
"So tight", Trapper smiles to himself at the pun.
"Mmhmm", you're on Cloud Nine and can barely put any thoughts together.
He starts to slowly stretch into you, his cock filling you entirely, spreading your cheeks apart as he pulls out to almost the tip, before seating fully inside you. You feel every vein as he does so, cock twitching and hitting against your cervix.
"Yeah...right there", you pant out in-between moans.
As he remains inside you, Trapper's arms hook underneath your shoulders, cupping your shoulders. The feeling of his warm body pressed on top of yours is comforting to you. His head resting on the back of your neck, stubble prickling your skin as he nuzzles into you.
You wish you could see his hip action at this angle as Trapper thrusts inside you. Your imagination in overdrive, you try to grind with his rhythm, softly moaning. His breath tickles your neck as he exhales shakily.
"Fuck, Trapper...", your voice trails off, blissed out.
His fingers start to massage into your folds while his length stretches out your walls.
Your moans start to crescendo as you cum, gripping his cock as waves of pleasure roll over your body. Trapper's fingers dig into your shoulders as he cums too, deep inside you. His back arching as you feel him paint your walls, pulsing at the sensation. His face falls back down onto your back as he finishes his climax, his body weight collapsing on top of you.
You can feel his chest rapidly beating as he cuddles into you, his cock resting on your entrance, feeling his cum seep out of you. You both hum with pleasure.
"You know, I think that actually worked", you break the silence, taking off your eye mask.
Trapper lifts his head to look at you, "Yeah?"
"Yeah... I might need to schedule another appointment. I've been having some real trouble with my chest", you emphasise the sentence, eating the scenery with all your middle school drama ability.
"Oh, well in that case, I better pencil you in", Trapper smirks before kissing into your neck.

Hallo! Could I get Kai Satou, Rio Ranger, and Midori's reactions (separately) to having their own personal (gender neutral) simp... Like the simp reader just constantly shly ogle at them and get very flustered whenever they're around and yet will do anything for them happily whatever they been told or ask. Maybe they get told by someone else that reader is simping? It can be during the deaths game (let said the cast live longer than the original for more plot-) or the non death game au yet. If is too much just kai is okay i really love him. But if you cant is okay love your writing!! Have a nice day and happy new year!
Happy new year to you too! Unfortunately Midori is on my blacklist so I won't be writing for him, but I'll absolutely do Kai and Ranger for you! Also I had a bit too much fun writing Ranger lol, I hope that's okay <3
Kai Satou and Rio Ranger with a simp s/o!
Flavor: Kai Satou x gn simp reader, Rio Ranger x gn simp reader
Warnings: none
Headcanons under the cut v
Kai Satou
I'll be honest with you, Kai is kinda dense
He won't realize you're simping for him until someone (likely Sara) points out your behavior to him
He's not experienced with romantic affairs at all so someone is gonna have to spell it out for him
He doesn't really take note of your staring or how flustered you appear to be when you're around him
So yeah, he's clueless as hell
But once Sara points your behavior out to him, he'll be the first to approach you about it
Though he doesn't show it, he's secretly overjoyed that someone feels the way you do about him
Once he knows, he won't stop taking notice of your behavior even after you two are in a relationship
It makes him feel so warm inside seeing you sneaking glances at him and constantly looking for excuses to be near him
How can he not feel joyful when you're looking at him like that? How can he not crack the smallest of smiles when he sees how flustered you get as he holds your hand?
He also loves your acts of service, it being his love language.
One day, you tried cooking something for him to thank him for always feeding you good food, but you ended up screwing it up and serving him some sad steak. Even if your cooking failed, it certainly didn't fail to make this man overjoyed that you'd tried to share his passion with him, so he ended up eating the whole plate for you.
Though, as happy as he was, he now prefers you stay out of the kitchen and let him do the cooking.
He loves how much you love him, and to be honest he loves you just as much. It shows in his smiles reserved for your eyes only and how he'd do anything for you just as you'd do anything for him.
Rio Ranger
This one's another dense one, but not in the same way that Kai is
While Kai is clueless, Rio is confused
Why do you keep staring at him? Why do you get so stuttery and blushy when he's around? Why do you seem to be looking for excuses to be near him? He's so confused by your odd behavior
He's so used to being disliked and feared that he just doesn't get why you seem to want to be around him.
At first, he hates it. He hates the way you ogle him from afar. He hates how you seem to always be in the same room as him. He hates how you're not fearful of him like everyone else is. Why aren't you afraid of him? You should be!
That's pretty much his thought process at first.
Over time, he slowly starts to get used to your behavior, though that won't stop him from trying to push you away. He still thinks you're weird.
One day, however, you seem to be missing, and he feels strangely empty without you around. He's confused. He doesn't like you, so why is he wondering about if you're alright or not?
He would rather die than admit to anyone, even himself, that he was actually worried about you.
The next day you show back up, following him around once more after you had spent the day resting due to illness.
Why is he...relieved to see you?
He doesn't like you, he knows this. So why is he relieved that you're back with your strange antics?
He doesn't know it yet, but he's become attached to you. He's come to enjoy the way you look at him and follow him around. He's come to adore how you seem to be willing to do anything for him.
He does his best to repress those feelings. No, he doesn't like you at all. In fact, he hates you. He hates the way it makes him feel when he catches you staring at him like he hung the stars in the sky. He hates the warmth in his chest when you get a little too close. He definitely hates when you give him little charms and trinkets.
Maybe one day he'll come to realize how absolutely smitten he is with you.

Villain Roommate |Chapter Six|
You finished some time later, you set out two plates and placed the food on them. You looked to Dabi, who was still on the couch. You walked the two plates to the dinner table before looking to Dabi once again. "Uh, it's ready." You told him, but got no answer. "I said it's ready." Still no answer. You sighed and walked over to the couch, was he purposely ignoring you just to piss you off? Cause it was working. You reached the couch, then stopped in your tracks when you saw that Dabi was sleeping.
He chest rose and fell gently, his face was relaxed. Like this, he almost looked like a normal human being. Almost. You sorta didn't want to wake him, he looked so peaceful. But you weren't about to have a whole plate of food wasted. So you lightly tapped his shoulder. "Hey, wake up." Dabi stirred but didn't wake. You huffed and placed your hand on his shoulder and shook him. "I said wake u-Ah!" Dabi grabbed your wrist and pulled you towards him, you lost your footing and feel forwards.
You opened your eyes after the impact, you were on top of Dabi, head on his chest. Your heart started racing, but in a bad way, you figured. You looked up, he was still sleeping. But if he woke up and saw you like this, he'd kill you for sure. You tried to back away, but was stopped by his arms wrapped around your back, he had you locked in. Panic started to set in as you tried over and over to get loose from his iron grip.
All your movement seemed to have woke him up. He groaned and looked down at you, an unreadable expression on his face at first, before that shit eating grin returned. "Well, what a sight to wake up to." You opened your mouth to explain yourself. "There you go doing things with my permission again. You creep."
Your face turned red. "I am not a creep! You did this! Not me!" Your voice squeaked due to being so flustered. Dabi gave you a confused look, before realizing where his arms were. "Huh, look at that. Looks like I did play a part in it. But, why haven't you moved away yet? If it bothers you so much?"
You hit his chest before standing up. "Maybe because you wouldn't let go of me!" You straightened your shirt out. "Now shut up and eat." You pointed to the table. Dabi stood up as well and stretched, his shirt riding up slightly, you turned away not wanting to get anymore flustered than you already were.
He walked past you and sat down at the table. You reluctantly did the same.
The two of you started to dig in, well, one of you more than the other. You glanced up at Dabi, he ate like he hadn't had a good meal in a while. You swallowed the bite that was in your mouth before hesitantly asking. "How long has it been since you've eaten?" Dabi looked at you, he swallowed the insane amount of food that was in his mouth before answering you. "Being on the run, you don't get the chance to sit down and have a good meal you know? I take whatever I can get."
That...was actually pretty upsetting to think about.
"So, I guess it's been a while." Dabi said before taking another bite. You didn't talk anymore after that, but a part of you wished you had made extra tonight. Finishing half of your food, you pushed your plate of food towards his empty one. Without a word you stood up and took his empty plate to the sink before making your way to your bedroom. Dabi watched as you left. He looked down at the plate of food in front of him.
Something stirred in his chest at the surprisingly kind gesture from you. Though he thought nothing of it before eating what was left. He took the plate to the sink before heading to the couch. You poke your head out your bedroom, he noticed and looked at you.
"I'll make a big meal for tomorrow night. That is, if you're still here." You said before closing your door. Dabi didn't know what to think of that. Since when did you care if he ate or not? "Whatever." He muttered before plopping down on the couch. He sighed out a heavy breath before closing his eyes, trying to get back to sleep. Yet, sleep would not find him.
And neither would it find you. You laid in your bed looking up at the ceiling, you brought a hand up to your head and smacked it lightly. Stupid. Why did you care so much? You rolled over on your side. You didn't. You could care less. But if that was the case, then why did you give him your food like that? He was a grown man, he could find his own food. But again, if that were the case, why did he say what he did?
'Being on the run, you don't get the chance to sit down and have a good meal you know? I take whatever I can get. So, I guess it's been a while.'
Why did that make you feel so...bad? It shouldn't have. He was a killer, a villain, they didn't deserve your kindness, and neither does he.
But, for some reason, you didn't want to think like that. It wasn't the way to think, hell, if your mother heard you thinking like that...
Let's just say, she wouldn't be very proud.
Your mother was the very human version of the word kindness. She felt that everyone deserved kindness, no matter who they were. Her words still lingered in your mind to this day. You can still remember them, fresh as when she said them to you when you were little.
It started when she picked you up from school at the end of the day, her smile fell when she noticed that you were sitting alone from the other kids who were playing while waiting for their parents. Her heart broke when she saw that you were crying as well. She hurried to your side and picked you up, holding you close.
"My baby, what's wrong?" Her voice was like silk.
You sniffled before answering her. "T-Those kids were really mean to me." Your mother looked to the kids playing, an unreadable look on her face. She looked back to you. "They were mean to you?" She asked as she started to walk back home. You nodded. "They called me names and pulled my hair." Your mother sighed and patted your back. "I hope you did not do the same back." You shook your head. "Good. Don't ever stoop to their level. Instead, be kind."
You look up at her. She used her shirt to wipe away your tears. "Be kind? But, why should I? They're so mean to me!"
Your mother shook her head. "No sweetie, meanness can not be met with more meanness. It can however, be met with kindness. There will be many people in our lives who will be mean. Who will do things to try and hurt you. And you know what we do in return? We rise above their cruelty, and we be kind." You listen to her as she continued. "Remember Y/n. No matter how cruel the world is, try to always be the one who brings light in the darkness. Be the one who brings a smile to a landfill of frowns. And always, always, show kindness to others. Because you never know just who might need it the most."
You sniffled and pulled the cover up above your head as you cried. If there were ever a time you would need her, it would be now. "I just don't understand how you could think like that. How I could think like that, after everything that's happened." You sobbed quietly. Her words did however leave a mark on you and your actions.
You didn't have to help who you thought was a stranger that night. You didn't have to offer Dabi a warm meal, or give him more. You didn't have to care about where he was eating properly or not. But you did. You did care.
But you really wish you didn't.

Papa's Freezeria Deluxe is the Greatest Game Ever Made (and I'm not joking)
That statement sounds like a joke but I am being 100% serious. I'll say it again, Papa's freezeria deluxe is the greatest game ever made or atleast it's my favorite game ever. You see, I'm not much of a gamer and I'm only discovering the world of video games now that I know piracy and have money to spend on games. The games that I bought as a child were usually second hand and on a console that was slowly being pushed out of the mainstream by the next one in line so games became more difficult to find and I stopped playing. I don't have many games that really stood out to me from my childhood, maybe Cars 2 for the Playstation 3 but I say that in a joking tone. If you were to ask any one of my friends what games from their childhood left an impact on them, they'd have a myriad of answers to give you. My one friend that I've mentioned in the Pikmin 4 review would probably choose every game in the Wii library. For me though, one game stands out and that is Papa's Freezeria, the original one. I think back on that game and that time very fondly. Me, my sister and my cousin were all huddled around my small laptop, taking turns and swapping after every day in game. We played the other Papa Louie titles and those all improved on Papa's Freezeria by adding fancy new features and bells and whistles to make them look superior to their predecessors but no matter how many new aspects they added to the later releases, I always went back to Papa's Freezeria.
When I think about the evolution of the Papa Louie games, I think about something my science teacher usually says "build your science scaffold everyday" this quote is actually seemingly unrelated but my debate coach says that it's always good to use quotes to get a point across and the point that I want to get across is that the Papa Louie games all build on one another. At the core is very stable formula that every game employs but with each title, they build on that like a scaffold, see it wasn't unrelated (it was unrelated but just roll with it) but the thing is my debate coach also mentioned that another good way to get a point across is through reference to stories or anecdotes. What is a scaffold without a good foundation, it's like that story from the Bible about the house on the rocks vs the house on the sand. The house on the sand would inevitably fall no matter how well it is built. No matter how many fancy bells and shiny whistles they add, without a good formula at the core of a Papa Louie title, it will fall. They all have the same formula but I feel that Papa's Freezeria perfected it. Every Papa Louie game has the Order station, the Build station, the Wait station and the Top station. Order station is where customers Order food, the build station is where you build the plate, wait station is where you cook the food which results in the player having to wait a certain amount of time, the top station is where you add finishing touches like decorations. Sounds simple but some games really mess this up by making the wait times too long (Papa's Taco Mia) or the top station too difficult (Papa's Sushiaria) or even too simple (Papa's Burgeria). Papa's Freezeria got this formula right from the get go. The formula is not too complicated but it has nuance, it appears challenging and impossible until you get the hang of it.
Every customer grades you individually on each station and then gives you an average based off of all the stations, you begin to fall into a groove where you get 99% ratings consistently, I've gotten a perfect score twice in a row with the strictest customer. Not that this game is easy, it's a system that you have to find for yourself.
Now, when Papa's Freezeria Deluxe came out, I was ill, I was really feverish and I thought I'd never play a Papa Louie title ever again due to Flash going down but then I saw Jerma play Papa's Freezeria Deluxe on steam and I bought it immediately. By the way if you think that Papa's Freezeria is too easy, watch Jerma play it, I watched this man struggle for 5 hours and like in that one episode of Breaking Bad where they play the full theme song, my ego got the better of me and I got up and had to show this old man how it's done, even in my sick state (it wasn't that bad, I'm jusy trying to craft a scene here). I downloaded the game and me and my sister played for 5 hours straight. I wrote a steam review on the game that quadruples the length of any essay I've written for school.
It was odd though, revisiting something from your childhood and being a completely different person now that you're experiencing it again. When I first played Papa's Freezeria, I must've been 9 years old, my sister 5, my cousin 11. Now revisiting it, I'm 17 years old, thinking about college and university, my sister is 13 years old, wondering how she's gonna adjust to high school, my cousin is 19 years old in her first year of university, just trying to keep herself afloat. As much as things have changed since then, it took me back and even for 5 hours, I was able to feel like a kid again and i didn't have to stress about school or if my marks are good enough for whatever university I had in mind Back then and I could just enjoy the game, it was lovely. I play it to calm myself down, I worry too much, I'm always overthinking every minute detail in everything and I drive myself crazy. Look at this review, it's just a game where you make sundaes but I've extrapolated some profound meaning out of it. My worrying helps me in my reviews a lot and it helps me to be descriptive in my writing but outside of that it's nothing but a bother and I'm sure we all worry too much at times, this game is good for that, you don't have to worry once you get in the groove of it. I also admire the tropical setting of it all, the music which gets repetitive and I usually have other music playing in a YouTube tab.
Man, this game means a lot to me. I love that they made this Deluxe edition and I've heard through the wire that there's another release in November of this year. I recommend it, it's worth every penny. It really does mean a lot to me and I've always known that in the back of my mind but now writing this and actually stating how much it means to me, I finally realize the full extent of what this game means to me. Thank you for reading this one, even if it was about Papa's Freezeria and maybe too pretentious but I've come to terms with the fact that I'm pretentious and that's OK, atleast it gives these reviews some personality. Anyway, I'll catch you later with something else I'm not sure what just yet.

'the beggar? those folks — they know exactly what they want.'
the storm makes it impossible to hear the knocks at the door. there's been intermittent storms for a while, and i knew a generator would be a good investment. it feels... strange that i'm the only person in town who thought to get one by the looks of it. but i've been holed up for days working on this book. it's not like i'm breathing down their necks seeing what they're doing.
while i can't hear a knock on my door, i did hear the one at my window "AH!!" i jump in my seat at the sight of the humanoid figure, until the light reflects in a way that lets me make out the disheveled man. tired, cold, wet, undoubtedly starving. i point to the door before walking over to open it for him.
"do you, um..." letting a stranger into my house during a dark and stormy night is a perfect setup to get murdered in the horror movie that my life branches off into sometimes. "oh, right. come in. but don't sit anywhere yet, i'll get you a towel." i notice the shackles around his wrists much better now that he's inside. yeah, this is... this is how i die. at least it's at the hands of a hot serial killer.
i quickly place a towel on a chair, gesturing for him to sit down and quickly muttering off some potential needs i can help with. "you need water? something to eat?"
"both would be nice, thanks." his voice is ice cold and shaky. he's probably more scared of me than i am of him.
"i hope you don't mind pizza rolls, i think that's all i have left..." i still scurry to the kitchen and stuff them in the toaster oven. a cup of sink water, and...
oh, right, the shackles. "mind if i...?" i lightly touch the metal before he quietly nods. maybe it'll take a screwdriver or something. i recognize the hole, but i'm wracking my brain trying to remember the tool i need. hopefully, the longer i stare at it the faster it comes to me.
"how did you end up out in the rain, anyways?" i realize that his hands start shaking when i ask. my jaw instinctively clenches. i asked the wrong question.
"you could call it... poor planning." didn't know where to go after killing this person, huh? i take in his presence more, realizing more the longer i stare. the tattered clothes, the unusually loose chains, the commodity code. the color washes out of my face as my heart quickly pivots from fear to pity. "just my luck that i ended up outside the second a storm hits."
"you must be new." i huff out a breath from my nostrils as i put up my finger to wait before going to grab my set of allen wrenches. "there's pretty much a storm every day. it'll stop for a bit, but one day out of fifty doesn't really matter all that much." i start testing each one on his shackles. i'm always so bad at figuring out the right size. "and actually, i think you're pretty lucky. i'm the only person in town who thought to actually get a generator." i manage to free his wrists as the toaster oven dings.
i can still feel his eyes on me as i move. the relative silence makes me a bit worried, and i try to reassure myself that i'm just being a huge chatterbox tonight. it's usually my first instinct when i wanna impress someone... but i don't have a reason to impress this man, do i?
you never know what connections in life will be the most useful later, but this... abandoned slave has no future. i don't think. i could cry at that realization when i finish plating his food. one roll popped open, so i spread the inside in a curve across the plate. garnish. presentation. i walk over to him, trying to keep a straight face as i put the plate on the coffee table in front of him.
he looks down at the plate and his shoulders start shuddering. i see a smile tug at his lips that makes my heart melt, and he laughs. it's such a cute laugh, even if it sounds like he hasn't had a real one in years. that's what makes it all the sweeter, really.
"gourmet." i try not to push the joke any further than that. he laughs even harder. the sound starts becoming ever so slightly more natural.
it's... ugh, it feels way too good to see him smile.

!tw: sexual assault!

The next morning Charlotte was really tired deciding to not showed she waved her wand making it do her morning routine in a few seconds. She decided to wear pants today, not wanting to wear her normal skirt. She pulled out her favorite pair of jeans finally being able to wear normal clothes due to it being a weekend.
The pants were bell bottoms and had a few holes. She wore a black pair of lace underwear Then she grabbed one of her graphic t's pulling it over her head. After putting it on she realized it was sleeveless. Then she pulled on socks and grabbed her bag. Heading to the door she put her shoes on and headed out the door.
✮
Arriving at the great hall she was one of the first couple of people there sitting down she started eating, she had some pancakes and fruit. She sat there until some of her other friends showed up.
It took a little while before some people showed up, it was Blaise and Draco. "Oh, hey Charlotte. Didn't expect to see you up this early." The two sat down where they normally sit. "Me neither." Charlotte chuckled. "It kind of just happened you know." Draco started to eat the food he placed on his plate. "So, what are you planning on doing today?" Blaise questioned Charlotte. "I don't know yet I just know I have detention with Lockhart today, I was late to his class yesterday." Charlotte groaned. "It's so unfair and Lockhart's so creepy." "What do you mean creepy?"
It was Draco's turn to ask a question. "He asked me out when he was doing that book signing and he's been giving me creepy looks in class. I seriously don't want to be in a room alone with him." Charlotte shuddered at the thoughts of what might happen. "Yeah, I guess Lockhart is creepy, like who need praise from a bunch of underage girls." Blaise added. "I know right." Draco said covering his mouth because of the fact he was chewing.
"Can't you just skip it?" Draco offered. "No, I'll just bolt if he does anything creepy. Thanks for the idea though." Charlotte gave him a grateful smile. "And if he does actually do anything creepy, I'll get him fired." Draco puffed out his chest. "No offence but how are you gonna do that?" Draco looked flabbergasted. "Oh yeah, you're from America. My father is one of the school's governors, he controls most of this school." The boy boasted. "Oh wow, that's so cool Draco." "I know right." Draco straightened his tie. "Well, I'm gonna head out maybe take a walk I don't know."
✮
Chalotte walked around the large courtyard, she got stopped by the giant lake. Stepping onto the dock. She pulled out her Walkman and pulled the headphones on pressing play. Slipping through my fingers by ABBA started playing. Taking off her shoes and socks she let her feet dangle off the edge. She laid back looking up at the clouds.
✮
Charlotte woke with a jolt. "What are you doing?" The deep voice drawled, and Charlotte knew who exactly woke her from her dreamless sleep. "I was sleeping." She pushed herself up, lifting her left foot from the edge she pulled on the sock. "Really I couldn't tell." Snape sassed back. "I'm glad I could clear up your confusion." Charlotte put on her other sock and stood. "I was being sarcastic." Snape snapped back. Charlotte completed putting her shoes on. "Really!?" She feigned a shocked expression.
"Listen her girl, it's dangerous to be alone out here vulnerable." Snape pointed at Charlotte. "It sounds to me like you care for me." Charlotte crossed her arms and shifted her weight one side and cocking her head towards the other. "I do not, I would say that to any of my students." Snape pulled the finger he had been pointing at her down. "Even Potter?" The man in front of her physically jolted and scowled. "Even. Potter." He gritted out. "Wow! You're such a kind professor." Charlotte teased as she walked past him. "Goodbye professor." Charlotte waved.
✮
Charlotte walked as slow as she could to her detention, not wanting to go. She dreaded being one on one with Lockhart, she prayed that there would be other students there. She got up to the wooden door, similar to Snape's but it had a few missing details. Slowly she brought her hand up and knocked. Hearing a faint 'come in' she twisted the doorknob and pushed the door open. "Ah! Ms. Bren, I was afraid you would try to skip your detention."
'I was thinking about it.' Her brain snarled at the man. "Now why would I do that?" Charlotte chuckled walking further into the room. "You are a great deal late." Lockhart pointed out. "I'm sorry, you just said that it was at night, so I didn't know what time to show up at." The lie rolled off of Charlotte's tongue. "I understand your confusion, next time I'll be more specific." Lockhart stood from his seat at the front.
Walking over to the girl he stopped and stood right in front of her. "Come, this way to where you'll be sitting." He held the girls lower back, slightly pulling her to the front where she would be sitting. Charlotte was very stiff the whole time he was guiding her. When they got to where she was sitting, he let go, her chair was right in front of his desk, and it had a small worktable attached to it. "Could you not do that." She sat down at her seat, and he sat at his. "Do what?" He asked placing his elbows up and folding his fingers leaning his head on the small platform created by them.
"Never mind." The girl spoke softly. "You are to write lines. Fifty for each minute you were late." He handed over a long sheet of parchment, Charlotte got her quill and ink jar from her bag. "What do you want me to write?" Charlotte looked up at the man in front of her. "I shall not be late, two hundred times, no magic." Charlotte sighed and looked down at the sheet in front of her.
After a little while Lockhart stood from his chair and walked around the desk and behind Charlotte. He stood there and looked over her shoulder. Charlotte flinched when she felt his mouth near her ear. "You seem tense. Do you want me to help relax you?" Lockhart spoke into her ear, his hand massaging Charlotte's shoulder. Tensing at the touch she let out a little squeak.
His hands went lower and caressed her sides. 'no no no! stop him! run!' Her brain screamed at her, but it felt like her mind was cast out of her body. His hands ran lower, one touching her breast and the other running itself on the inside of her thigh. 'run, Run, RUN!' she hollered. Finally, her body decided to obey she stood and ran to the door pushing it open as fast as she could. He was close behind her, she kept running no matter that she didn't know where she was or where she was going. Her legs burned wanting to stop but her brain didn't let her, she pushed her legs until she got to a door, she opened it as she heard him behind her a few feet away behind a turn.
Turning she locked the door behind her and turned back pressing her back against the door. "What on earth are you doing?!" A dark voice almost yelled. "Shhhhhh." She motioned for him to be quiet. "I'm not here you haven't seen me all day." She panted before a knock came on the door. Charlotte covered her mouth and ran to the corner and hid under the desk.
Snape was so confused but knew it was serious. Walking over to the door he unlocked and opened it. Lockhart stood outside also panting heavily. "What are you doing here Gildroy?" Snape questioned with a quirk of his eyebrow. "Have you seen Ms. Bren by chance. She had left my detention without permission." Snape contemplated the options, give her up or not, he decided to do the latter. "No, I have not, now it's too late for your bothersome presence now leave before I make you." With that Snape slammed the door and locked it.
He waited at the door until he heard Lockhart leave. "He's gone." Snape informed the girl who was under the desk. When she did not leave from under the desk he walked over and looked under it. The girl was crying not just crying she was weeping tears would not stop, sniffles were heard every once in a while. He decided to sit down against the rock wall and wait.
Soon the sniffles got closer together and the girl had finished crying. She wiped her eyes on her robes sleeve. "It seems all I do here is cry." Charlotte gave out a forced chuckle. "It doesn't matter anyway; I'll get out of your hair now." Charlotte went to stand before Snape grabbed her wrist stopping her from leaving.
She moved back down and just sat there. "What did Lockhart do." It was more of a statement than a question. But just thinking about what happened brought tears to the girl's eyes. "H-he..." Charlotte couldn't stomach telling anyone so the kept stuttering out parts of words and little noises. "You don't have to say anything just give me permission to see." This confused Charlotte but she nodded anyway.
Snape started into her eyes, this made Charlotte nervous and break eye contact from the man. He grabbed her face and made her look at him. "It won't work if you don't keep still, I need to make eye contact with you." Snape told the girl with annoyance braided into his tone. Charlotte nodded again not trusting her own voice.
While looking in his eyes she noticed how beautiful they really were, that was before she started to feel a poking sensation in the back of her mind. Then flashed of the memories came forwards, the tears came forwards again too. Charlotte hated crying, especially in front of people. It made her feel weak like she couldn't handle her emotions. She used to be able to hold them back but now she couldn't they would just start flowing.
The memories stopped and she had a chance to catch her breath. But that was stopped too when Snape pulled her into him. "It's okay Charlotte, it's not your fault. It will never be your fault." He rubbed her back in a soothing way, he thought it be best to use her first name while comforting her. Charlotte was in shock for a little bit not expecting Snape to hug her.
She clutched onto his back his robes folding in her hands and Charlotte melted into the hug, Charlotte hadn't had a hug like this since she left America. Choking out a sob she placed her forehead on his chest staining the cloth with tears.
After a little while she stopped crying and Snape loosened his grip and Charlotte looking up at him. "Sorry 'bout your robes." She smiled awkwardly and wiped her eyes with the sleeve of her robe. "No need to apologize, it can be easily cleaned. We'll talk to Dumbledore about this and get him fired." He seethed, rubbing Charlotte's back in an assuring way.
"That's not necessary, I'm fine I promise." She pleaded, trying to not be bothersome. Snape cupped her face making her look into his eyes. "It is more than necessary, he can't do this and get away with it. If he can get away with it once he'll think he can get away with it again." Snape had never had this much emotion in a while, the hatred bubbling up as it had in his years at this school.
"Okay." Charlotte murmured looking down. "You won't have to say anything I just show him what I saw." She looked back up at him, her eyes changing from one of hesitance to one of appreciation. His heartbeat speed up with the look, making him pull her back in so she wouldn't be able to see the bright red blush contrasting against his pale skin.

Supermarket runs
Pairing: Jake × mc (Syianne)
Genre: fluff, humor
Words: 2.5k
Summary: Three times Jake ran into Syianne and one time he actually made plans.
Anonymous asked: Hello. If you do still requests, can you do 27 and 40, with Jake and MC from Duskwood from fluff? Sorry I forgot to add that.
Prompts: 27. "Are you blushing?" 40. "Why are you so afraid of loving?"
Notes: here it is! A cute meet up fic with Jake's point of view. I hope you like this one because it's going to be the last thing I'll be posting for a while 😬
Jake had reached his new hideout just a few hours ago.
After evading yet another capture from the government and planting false trails in his wake, he had escaped to a small town, renting an apartment for the time being.
Opening the door to his new house for a few days, he put his cat down, opened his cage and let him explore. Glitch immediately disappeared and Jake put his bags down, sighing tiredly.
He needed to make a quick run to the store nearby, getting some food and other essential items since it was clear that they didn't stock it in the room.
Before he could change his mind, Jake picked up his wallet, locking the door and walked to the store he came across on his way over to the apartment.
It was a medium sized store, probably the one of the few in this small town. Jake browsed the shelves picking up the things he needed along the way. He avoided eye contact with everyone, putting his hood up.
When he was done, he quietly put the few cup noodles and microwaveable dinners on the counter and waited for the cashier to scan his items. Just as he went to pick up the first item, the cashier's phone rang and he glanced at the screen, eyes widening in surprise before his face settled into panic.
"Oh shit, oh shit, I completely forgot," he mumbled to himself frantically and giving Jake an apologetic glance, ran towards the back room.
Well then, it wasn't like he was in any hurry either. He didn't want to go back so soon anyway. He rocked back on his heels, adjusting his mask so that it still covered the lower half of his face and looked around in boredom.
From the backroom, he could hear two voices arguing, one male and other female and just when he thought that maybe it was going to take a while, the cashier ran out of the room, hefting a jacket over his shoulders and looked back.
"I owe you one, Syianne! Thank you so much!"
Jake tilted his head on hearing the familiar name, memories of conversations with his Syianne creeping up.
"You really do, Percy! I better have a three day weekend after this!" The girl shouted back and Jake smiled behind his mask. She even sounded like her.
The cashier yelled back something but he was already out the door to hear properly. The girl came out from the back, wearing her uniform jacket and grumbling about having to do two shifts, but Jake had frozen.
"Sorry about that. My coworker forgot about the date with his girlfriend and had to bolt. Between you and me, she's pretty scary so I'd be running too," she said, already ringing up his few items but Jake couldn't reply. He kept staring at her familiar face, which he had accidentally accessed when going through her chats before.
This was his Syianne.
She glanced at him, probably wondering why he didn't say anything before looking back on the screen. He broke out of his stupor when she told him the total and held up a bag with his items.
His fingers brushed against her and it felt like a lifetime, blood rushing to his cheeks and heart pacing.
"Thank you," he said and got a smile in return.
"You're welcome! Sorry about the delay earlier."
He shook his head rapidly, telling her that it was no trouble and he completely understood. That made her smile widen, her eyes crinkling with happiness.
"Come again soon!"
Oh, he'd be coming back very soon, indeed.
The first thing he did after reaching home was to power on his laptop and search for Syianne's location. Glitch hissed angrily at him for disturbing his slumber atop the chair he was now sitting in but Jake's eyes were fixed on the screen.
The results baffled him, as it showed her living in a completely different country from when he had searched her before, when he had just gotten her number. And then, realisation dawned on him that she might be using a VPN.
He banged his head on the table in frustration but also a little impressed that Syianne had thought of doing something like this to protect her identity.
He was supposed to stay away from all of them, to prevent pulling people into his messes but now one of the most important people in his life literally worked a walk away from his hiding place. He couldn't change places so frequently as it hadn't even been a day and he had to give some time to the police to cool off, before he got on the move again.
He sighed, too wound up to make anything but cup noodles, he got up and went into the kitchen. Glitch trailed behind him, sniping at his heels for his own food and Jake emptied the last can of cat food into Glitch's bowl.
With a jolt, he realised that he would have to go to the supermarket tomorrow again and it brought him equal parts of excitement as well as anxiety at the thought of seeing Syianne again.
———
The next evening, he put the cans of cat food on the counter and was disappointed to find that the guy from yesterday Percy, if he recalled right – was going to scan his items.
Jake shifted the mask on his face and looked around to see if Syianne was somewhere but to no avail. If Percy noticed him looking around, he didn't say anything. When he grabbed the bag from him, the employee room opened and Syianne came out wearing casual clothes, a bag slung over her shoulder.
"See you tomorrow, Percy!"
She came out from behind the counter and her eyes widened in surprise as they fell on him.
"Oh hi! You're the one from yesterday."
Jake cleared his throat and let out a hesitant, "Y-yeah."
Percy snickered, throwing a knowing look at Jake before turning to Syianne.
"Yeah, see you tomorrow, idiot. Bring some coffee with you." He handed Jake his bag as he scrambled to bring out his wallet to pay and gave him a wide smile.
"Syianne here works the morning shifts." He winked and Jake was mortified to hear the amusement in his voice, knowing that he had been caught.
"I'm not bringing you anything until I get my three-day weekend. Anyway, nice to see you again…." She trailed off when she turned to Jake and his mind went into overdrive as he thought about whether he should tell her his real name or not.
"Phil." He blurted out, "My name's Phil."
She tilted her head, no doubt thinking about that bartender from Duskwood who was currently locked up in jail.
"Funny, I know a guy named Phil. Not from around here though." She glanced at the door giving him a final smile.
"Because all the customers come in the evening." Percy complained and Syianne only rolled her eyes at his antics.
"Well, come by in the morning if you want to chat. It's pretty chill that time."
"Deal with it. Anyway, see you tomorrow." She waved one last time and walked out, Jake's eyes following her figure until she disappeared around the corner.
"She's sweet and a little too trustful. I better not hear any complaints about you from her Phil or I won't hesitate to throw a punch or two." Percy threatened and Jake flushed before muttering a hasty excuse and practically running out of the store.
She actually talked to him today and hearing her voice, her words just made it harder for him to stay away. But it was okay if he didn't tell her who he was, right? She won't be in any danger then, right?
These thoughts chased him as he walked back to his temporary home, almost tripping over Glitch when he entered and found a disgruntled cat, waiting for his food.
———
The next morning, Jake worked in his room, occasionally shooing away Glitch who was determined to get his daily dose of affection.
"Just a minute, Glitch." He muttered, typing rapidly, his eyes scanning the screen with an eerie quickness.
A loud, disgruntled meow from his cat breaks the silence again and Jake heaved a frustrated sigh, pushing his laptop away and glaring at the culprit.
"Fine, you little devil! I'll give you breakfast first."
He walked out of the room, Glitch trailing behind him, purring in appreciation and hopped on to a chair while Jake took out the instant pancake mixture that he had recently bought. And that reminded him of the fact that Syianne was here, so close and whether he should tell her or not.
Making the pancakes in a daze, he put a plate in front of Glitch who immediately started gobbling it up. Jake huffed out a laugh and made his own plate, sitting across from his cat. The syrup was towards Glitch and when he leaned forward to take it, he was met by Glitch's paw swatting at his hand.
"What the hell? You ate already! Let me eat too!"
Glitch's paw rested on the syrup bottle and edged it towards the end of the table.
Jake froze.
"Glitch, no. Give me the syrup."
The bottle shifted a bit more.
"No, Glitch. Stop that."
The cat looked at him and stopped and Jake gave a sigh of relief, only to throw back his head in exasperation at the next moment as the bottle was finally pushed off the table.
"You little devil! I'm going to—"
The cat sprang up and ran into the other room, leaving Jake in the kitchen alone.
"Why is it always me?"
———
After cleaning up the kitchen and eating pancakes without any syrup, Jake found himself in the supermarket once again, embarrassed about being there everyday for the last three or so days.
When he put his items on the counter, including a syrup in a plastic bottle this time, he found himself facing Syianne who gave her an amused look.
"Having a good day, Phil?"
It took a moment for Jake to understand that she was talking to him and he flushed when he met her gaze.
"Not really. My cat decided to be an asshole today."
Syianne laughed and if Jake could have heard it everyday, he would. When she scanned his bandaids, she raised an eyebrow, and Jake gave her a sheepish smile, showing her his poorly wrapped hand.
"Oh no, that looks bad," she said but Jake only shook his head.
"It's better than it looks, I promise. I'm just bad at wrapping things up."
She didn't smile but only looked behind him. Seeing no more customers, she gestured for him to come to her side of the counter. Confused, he did as she asked and understanding dawned on him when he saw her opening the packet of gauze he had just bought.
"Oh, no, no. It's okay. I can do it at home." He rushed but she didn't listen, silently asking for him to hold his hand forward. When he realised that Syianne wasn't going to take no for an answer, he sighed and put his hand forward, face heating up and he regretted forgetting to wear a face mask that day.
"Are you blushing?" She asked teasingly and his flush only worsened.
"I-I'm not used to other people caring for me."
She hummed.
"That must be lonely."
She carefully unwrapped his hand, winching at the sight of blood and cleaned it with antiseptic wipes, before wrapping a bandage around the cut. Her hands were gentle but firm, as if she knew what she was doing and had done it a hundred times before. Jake was suddenly hit with a weird nostalgia, a feeling of wanting to know who she was, how many siblings she had, what her goals were.
He didn't realise when she had stopped, staring at him, as he was looking at her and only after several minutes had passed, did Syianne dropped her hands, letting him know that she was done.
The thought struck him like lightning and he quickly grabbed his bags, muttering another thank you and getting a simple smile in return. Before he knew, he was out on the streets and on the way to his house, his thoughts a raging turmoil.
"Thank you very much." He spoke softly, quietly, overwhelmed by such a gesture from her. He was essentially a stranger and she had still helped him, not knowing who he was.
She didn't know who he was.
What was he doing? Going to see her like that, finding excuses to go to the supermarket in hopes of seeing her? What did he want to accomplish?
He released a shaky sigh, running his hands through his hair, when he reached the place. Glitch, knowing that it wasn't the time for his shenanigans, only gave a welcoming meow from his place on the couch.
Maybe it was time he started searching again.
Jake opened his laptop but the ping from his phone made him look for it, heart quickening when he saw her name on it.
Syianne [5:00 pm]
Hey Jake!
How are you doing? I hope you're safe
I patched up a guy today who came in at work. He had a cat too!
Anyway, I don't know why I'm still writing but I hope you're safe and nobody got to you
Why are you so afraid of loving?
Sorry, insensitive question. Ignore that
Waiting for when you come back
...I'm still looking forward to that date
Jake's lips quirked at her messages, warmed by her concern. She had messaged him everyday ever since he went into hiding again. He hadn't replied then, being busy because of his relocation, but now….
In a bold move, very uncharacteristic for him, he messaged her back.
Jake [5:03 pm]
What if I told you that the guy you patched up was me?
Syianne [5:04 pm]
What?
His name was Phil
Oh
Jake waited as she typed and erased, all of it going on for two minutes before she stopped. Jake had a sudden, terrible feeling that perhaps he had made a mistake but soon enough, she replied.
Syianne [5:06 pm]
You're cute in real life as well <3
Jake laughed, amused by her flirty response and decided that perhaps he'd stay there for a few more days.
Syianne [5:06 pm]
What about that date at the Chinese restaurant you promised me?
Jake [5:07 pm]
Does tomorrow work for you? ;)

There had been an unspoken thing between you and Thomas from the first day you met. It was one of those right person, wrong time scenarios. Both of you were happily taken by other people, loving your partners, and leading healthy relationships. It simply hadn't been meant to be and both of you had gladly accepted it. Nothing had ever happened, despite the others insisting there must have, neither of you was like that. So you stayed friends with him, the same way you stayed friends with Victoria, Damiano, and Ethan and it didn't take long for the five of you to grow into a loving group, a chosen family. That was until both you and Thomas happened to have broken up with your respective partners within the same week. It was safe to say that it didn't take long for the meddling to start.
***
"I just think they'd make such a good couple!" Victoria said, pushing the empty beer bottles around on the table in annoyance. "They're basically made for each other."
"Leave it, Vic," Ethan said. The dark of the bar was hiding his features and the fact he was slightly rolling his eyes. "They both literally just got out of relationships, I don't think they're interested."
"But they both ended them so it's not like they've been broken up with," she insisted. "I'm sure they'll get over it quickly enough."
"Yeah I agree with Vic," Damiano added. "It's not like either of them seems all that heartbroken."
"Exactly, which is why we need to act now!"
"I still don't think it's a good idea," Ethan sighed. "Just let them figure it out on their own."
"But they're idiots! They'll never figure it out!"
Damiano couldn't help laugh out loud. He knew his friend was onto something, both Thomas and Y/n tended to be hilariously oblivious when it came to things like these.
"Maybe they just need a little push," he agreed.
"Fine." A deep sigh escaped Ethan. "But don't say I didn't warn you if it doesn't work out."
***
The moment you stepped into the vintage second-hand store you decided it was heaven on earth. It didn't take long for you to sweep through the place like a whirlwind, picking up pieces left and right, leaving Victoria and Thomas standing at the entrance still. You didn't care, this was one of your favourite places and you were not going to be held back because those two were slow. You tried on a dress that looked like an absolute mess on you and you quickly took a picture to laugh at later with the others, before trying on some trousers that you really took a liking to. You were still in them, trying to figure out if you had also grabbed a top that would match when someone knocked on the wood of the changing room. Confused and not certain if the noise was directed at you, you pulled back the curtain to come face to face with Thomas. He noticed you were in your bra before you did.
You raised your eyebrows, overly amused at how he was nervously looking around to figure out if anyone else would be able to see her, but no one seemed to be around. As he turned back, he tried not to let his gaze fall into her chest again, but failed miserably. You laughed heartily, "It's fine, stop blushing, Thomas."
He grinned, more relaxed not that he knew you didn't mind. He shouldn't, this being far from the first time he'd seen you like this.
"Vic told me to give you this dress to try on."
You looked at the piece of fabric he handed you, a gorgeous, velvety black, knee-high dress with a dangerous slit and a plunging neckline. It wasn't something you would have chosen yourself, but you trusted Vic's judgment. The curtain was quickly closed again, removing the trousers you had already decided on and slipped on the dress. It fell in a much nicer way than you had anticipated, easily smoothing itself over your curves and settling perfectly in place. The mirror agreed with your sentiment - you looked gorgeous. Okay, so this dress would do with a bit more makeup and without a bra, but it was a no-brainer that you were going to buy it.
You ripped open the curtain, now facing both of your friends. As soon as Vic saw you, she seemed as smitten with it as you were. Thomas looked stunned in his own way but stayed quiet.
"Fuck, I knew that was your dress!" Victoria shouted, obviously proud of herself for picking it out.
"Where am I ever going to wear this?" You asked, spinning to muster your reflection once again.
"When I take you out tomorrow night," Vic grinned. "There's a gorgeous new restaurant in town but it's fancy fancy, so this will do just fine."
You couldn't help but squint your eyes at her through the mirror. Her suggestion sounded just fine, but the way her eyes flickered made you feel like there was something more to the story.
***
"Wait, so how will you going out with her to dinner help, exactly?"
"Oh, Damiano, stop being so dumb. Obviously, I won't go."
"I don't get it."
"I'll have some sort of last-minute emergency, and since both of you will be out of the house, Thomas will have to step in."
Ethan sighed, shaking his head at his friend's plan.
"Why do you have to meddle so much, Vic?"
"Because those two don't get it. But once they see each other all dressed up, romantic dinner, candles, good wine, it'll click."
"Whatever you say."
***
"Oh my god, Y/n, I'm so sorry!" Victoria burst into your room, Chili cradled in her arms and an apologetic look on her face. "I know we said we'd go to that fancy restaurant tonight, but Chili's been coughing and the vet told me to come in immediately."
You side-eyed the little white dog, looking as happy as can be, but there was no reason for you not to trust Victoria. Right? You briefly petted Chili's head.
"Don't worry about it, we can always go some other time."
"No!" Her outburst surprised you. "I mean, it's so difficult to get a reservation there and you should wear your dress out. Damiano and Ethan are out, but I'm pretty sure Thomas is free, please ask him, he'd probably love to go with you!"
You wanted to scold Victoria, tell her this wasn't happening, tell her you'd be fine just staying home, but she didn't give you a chance to do any of it. Instead, she left your room, immediately shouting for her bandmate. It was the reason you found yourself at a candlelit dinner with the blond man mere hours later.
"You look amazing, by the way," Thomas said. Well, he actually kind of mumbled it into his pasta rather than proudly state it. You felt like blushing.
"So do you, love. But you know I love you in a suit."
Your eyes met, just for a moment, before both of you found yourselves awkwardly staring back at your plates again. You didn't know why you were behaving like this, or why he was, you could only attribute it to the fact that this felt like an overly romantic date and the waiter had referred to you as his girlfriend multiple times already. Neither of you had corrected him. You hadn't minded the single rose that had been placed between you on the table, accompanied by a little wink and a smile by the waiter.
"You know, you make a lousy boyfriend, not even bringing me flowers for our date, " you teased, watching as a shy smile appeared on Thomas' face, his eyes travelling down the table for a second before looking at you again with more than a twinkle.
"I did take you to the nicest restaurant in town, surely that gets me some points?"
The giggle bubbled over your lips easily. Everything came easy with Thomas. He made the troubles disappear with one look, one touch of a hand, a single word, a gesture, his existence. He was your own personal cure to everything.
***
"No, I'm telling you, it worked," Victoria excitedly gasped and she gathered in the kitchen with Damiano and Ethan, trying to stay as inconspicuous as possible. "You should have seen them when they came back!"
"Did you actually wait up for them?" Ethan asked, slightly disbelieving, slightly amused.
"Well, they didn't know obviously! I just cracked my bedroom door open a bit. But they were all giggly and happy and they hugged when they said goodnight!"
"Vic, we all hug all the time," Damiano threw in.
"Not the way they did. I'm serious, this is working and you'll see soon enough!"
"So what's the next idea then?"
"I'm... I'm not quite sure," she admitted. "But I'll figure it out and it'll be perfect."
***
The thunderstorm hadn't been predicted by any of the weather channels. You found yourself standing in front of the patio doors with Thomas, watching the heavy rain disturb the surface or the pool, trees swaying in the wind, a flash of light illuminating the garden in regular intervals. It had only been the two of you home when it had started, everyone else out to meet friends or sitting in a bar with a drink in their hand. You had been having a lazy day, unwilling to leave the house at all, while Thomas had slept for so long no one had bothered trying to wake him so he could join in on plans.
"Do you want to compare our favourite records?"
You had been so focused on the happenings outside of the glass that you almost flinched in surprise at his question. Still, a slight smile, the right kind of look, and you were nodding enthusiastically. Hasting up the stairs, barefoot and in nothing but shorts and the shirt you usually slept in, you went through the little collection you had brought to the summer house, already hearing the first notes of Led Zeppelin's Black Dog echoing downstairs. With a smile on your face, you grabbed a few records and bolted back down to Thomas.
"I still prefer Led Zeppelin III," you giggled, only to be greeted with Thomas' shocked face. "Anything that has Immigrant Song on it is a hit, really."
"Blasphemy! Nothing tops IV, and you clearly have no taste."
"You clearly have no taste considering you think anything Led Zeppelin has put out is better than Fleetwood Mac's Rumours." You barely waited for the first song of Thomas' album of choice to finish playing before interrupting it with the sound of Second Hand News.
It didn't take long for the conversation to get heated. Still, you kept playing your record in the background, effortlessly dodging his effort to change it, even though the whole thing had been his idea in the first place. He was still complaining, explaining, talking to a wall basically, as you danced around the living room, as the music flowed through you, singing along, thunder only happens when it's raining, as the weather outside did its worst.
"I just think it's much too sad, most of it," Thomas finally concluded.
"Doesn't that just make it so beautiful though?"
"No, it just makes me sad," he pouted.
"Maybe you just never listened to it the way you should. In the arms of someone you love."
A heartbeat passed as both of you looked at each other, but then your smile returned and you motioned for him to get on the sofa with you, lying on your side as he slowly but surely moved in front of you. Your arms wrapped around him, spooning him, making you feel safer than you ever have as Songbird played in quiet tones.
Your nose buried itself in his hair, letting his smell fill your every pore, taking over your whole being as you pressed into him, singing along in nothing but a whisper.
"And I love you, I love you, I love you, like never before."
***
"Guys, guys, guys, look at that!" Victoria called out to her friends as they quietly made their way into the house. "I knew it would be such a good idea to leave them alone in the house!"
"Vic, it's not like you made a thunderstorm come along, I'm pretty sure this was not your doing for once," Damiano whispered.
"Doesn't matter! Look at them spooning! We're on the right way, guys!"
"We're not on any way," Ethan threw in. "You keep trying to meddle and the two of them are going their own ways."
"They just need another push. I just gotta think of something."
***
"Hey, they let you feed the goats here!" Victoria squealed as everyone around her let out a groan. The zoo was bustling with people, the five friends surrounded by families, and Vic easily fell in line with the children's excitement.
"Vic, I really really don't like goats," you complained. "I'd rather not get their attention because I got food in my hands."
"Fine. How about you go see the owls over there with... Thomas, and I go feed some adorable goats with Ethan and Damiano?"
The both of you allowed yourselves to be pushed away easily, chuckles on your faces as you walked away from the rest of the group, dodging running toddlers as you went.
"So, this is a set-up, huh?" Thomas grinned next to you as his arm slid around your waist, pulling you closer.
"Oh, as if Victoria has been doing anything these past weeks without hidden intentions." You let yourself mold into Thomas' side, leaning in closer until your bodies were touching as much as physically possible. "She's not half as subtle about this as she thinks. I'm sure she's watching right now."
You didn't turn around, but you felt her eyes on the pair of you, watching your every move and trying to figure out what was going on between the two of you.
"Do you wanna give her a show?" You playfully pinched his site, looking at him from the corner of your eyes just to see a smile appear on his face that was surely mirroring yours. "Make out a little bit?"
"Wouldn't that give it away?" He stopped walking, now wrapping both of his arms around you as you leaned on his chest, looking up at him.
"I'm sure she'd still think it's just a first step in the right direction."
Not waiting for his response, your hand reached up to his face, slowly stroking along the soft skin of his cheek, thumb running over his lower lip as his smile grew, then reaching around, tangling them into his hair and pulling him down to you. His lips met yours in a sigh, warm and lovely, a tingling feeling spreading through you immediately, pressing yourself into him. You could feel his thumb stroking your back ever so slightly as he held you. He wanted more, slowly moving his lips, trying to deepen the kiss, but you pulled away. Close enough to still feel his breath on you, close enough that whispering would be enough.
"Now, we don't want Vic to figure it all out immediately," you grinned before putting more distance between the two of you. He groaned, making you giggle, before taking your hand and pulling you along.
"How much longer are you planning to keep this up?" Thomas asked, shaking his head, but still amused. "We've been together for two weeks."
"Pretty sure she already bought tickets for the cinema for me and her for Wednesday... which she'll inexplicably have no time for so you'll have to come along, obviously. I can give you a hickey in the dark theater, she'll freak."
Thomas laughed out loud, pressing a single kiss to the top of your head.
"Fine. One more date, that's it?"
"One more date."

It was funny to look at someone you once loved, knowing that you couldn't anymore. It was like looking a stranger in the eye but recognising every part of their soul.
Every time you looked at Poe - caught his eyes across the room or shot him in a glance in the hallway - it felt like you were home. You could practically count the golden flecks in his warm eyes, and the laughter lines beside them, you knew better than the lines on your own palms. You still remembered the way his hands gripped onto yours whenever he walked past beside you, or the way he'd hold onto you for comfort after he woke from a nightmare. More importantly, you remembered how it felt to be loved by him; protected and safe, in the arms of a man who would have crossed the galaxy for you.
Then Poe's eyes would flicker away from yours, or he'd keep walking past you without so much as a glance, and you would remember.
You'd broken up. And it fucking sucked.
It wasn't because you stopped loving each other. You wished it that was simple, but was anything ever straightforward these days? In this climate? Not really. Actions that used to be simple had a thousand layers. People you used to trust - friends and family - could double cross you, or triple cross or...you get the point. The galaxy was intricate and tangled. Difficult to differentiate and understand.
With that said, your relationship with Poe was the one thing that didn't feel so convoluted - you loved him and he loved you. That should have been enough. It wasn't.
The galaxy was exhausting you both and the war was killing you inside. You barely had time for yourselves, let alone for each other. It easier to let your relationship fall to pieces than it was to try. You were both too tired.
It was funny, though, because even four months after you broke up, nothing had changed in that sense, You were still tired all the time - of the war, of having hope, of fighting. The only different now was that you had to face it all alone. There was no Poe.
"Did you get enough sleep last night?" Rey's voice pulled you back to reality. You were sat in the mess hall, pushing the contents of your breakfast around the plate.
You snorted. "Do I ever?"
She didn't respond, instead just rolling her eyes.
"I'm fine, really," you insisted. "When this whole thing is over, I'll get some sleep - either because we've won, or because I'm dead."
"That's not very positive."
You both jumped at the sound of Poe's voice. The pilot had casually appeared by the table - he stood for a moment and then took a seat beside you. The action was casual. Nobody around you would have suspected a thing. Yet still, your heart felt like it was going to hurtle out your chest just at the mere sight of him.
"Hey, Poe," you tried to calmly greet him. "Long time, no talk."
"I know," he replied. "I just needed to ask a favour real quick."
"Yeah?"
"You know that X-Wing stabiliser I gave you last year?" he continued. "I don't know if you ever used but if you didn't, I could really use it. My jet's out and I need it back in action ASAP."
"Damn," you murmured. "I don't, I'm sorry."
"It's no problem," Poe gave you a charming smile. "I figured you might have needed it for yours."
"Oh no, it's not that," you said. "I...I lost it, actually."
"You lost it?" his eyebrows shot up.
"I'm sorry," you repeated. "I just-"
"- it's fine, honestly," he cut you off - he didn't look bothered, but maybe a little annoyed. "Not surprising, though."
You frowned. "It's not?"
"I mean...you do lose everything," he reminded you. "Right, Rey?"
"I'm just eating," she said. "Just sitting here and eating. Not getting involved."
"I don't!" you insisted.
"Okay," Poe smirked and leant back in his chair. "What about the book I gave you? And the blaster? And the jacket?"
"Those are just a few things!" you shot back. "I can look after things, Dameron."
"I don't believe you," his playful smile hadn't faltered - but why was he getting to you so much?
It might have been different if you were still together. This could have been...flirtatious teasing, or something. Instead, it was just Poe being Poe and it was getting on your tits.
"You don't have to believe me," you suavely shrugged. "It's not like you're my boyfriend anymore."
His face dropped at that. "You're right. I guess you misplaced me too."
With that, you abruptly stood up - but not before flipping him off and throwing a half-eaten piece of toast at his forehead. Okay, so maybe it wasn't your brightest move but the bread was the nearest thing and...you were mad, okay? People didn't think things through when they were mad.
Your relationship was testament to that.
--
A few hours passed, and aside from a toast-induced red mark on his forehead, Poe had pretty much forgotten about your friendly chinwag. What was the point in holding onto it? It was merely just a testament - or a reminder, even - to the fact that you could barely have one conversation without fighting. That's how things had been when you'd broken up. Nothing had changed.
By the time evening came, Poe had retired to his quarters as usual. He spent a lot less time in them since you'd split up; they felt more lonely now. Waking up to a cold bed and making just one cup of caff in the morning didn't feel quite right. Not to mention the blank space on the wall where photos of you had once hung - he still had them, stuffed away in a drawer. Just refused to look at them. It was easier that way.
Not easier but...less painful, maybe. He'd managed to shut down those feelings for you and confine them to a little corner of his brain. It was the same place he'd forced his grief for Shara. He'd probably have to deal it one day, but that was a problem for future Poe.
A few minutes after he'd kicked off his boots and fallen back onto his bed, his door burst open.
Only two people had keys to his door. Finn and you. He'd never asked for it back, just because he'd figured you'd never want to step foot in there again.
Poe had been wrong, clearly, because you were here now. Your eyes were a little watery and you looked a little frantic. There was also a tattered old box in your hands. He didn't recognise it, but as soon as he opened his mouth to ask, you started talking.
"Don't tell me I don't look after things," you said. Shoving Poe aside, you elbowed your way to his bed and emptied the contents of the box out. It was a smorgasbord of papers and knick-knacks and items that seemed vaguely familiar.
"I was only joking earlier!" Poe defended. "And can you knock next time-"
"- this is from the fortune cookie on our first date," you cut him off, shoving a crumpled piece of paper into his hand. "And this is the eggshell from the first time you made me breakfast."
"I-"
"- I'm not finished!" you cut him off. "This is the letter you wrote me on your six month anniversary, and the ten you wrote me every month after, and the dumb seashell necklace we brought on our first vacation, a-and the...the stupid cartoon you drew of Hux that time I was sad and you wanted to make me smile."
Poe's brow furrowed. "You kept all this?"
"Of course I did!" you snapped. "I might misplace things that can be replaced but I look after the things that matter, okay?"
"Okay, yeah," he held his hands out to calm you down, gently nodding. "To be honest, I thought you woulda thrown all this away."
"No, Poe," you murmured. "I couldn't. Even if we broke up, I still..."
I still love you.
"...appreciate our time together," you finished. "I know it's sappy. I do. I just didn't have the heart to throw it away."
"I haven't thrown away anything either," he admitted. "Guess we're still getting over each other, huh?"
"Yeah, I guess," you gently smiled.
Poe returned the gesture, eyes meeting yours. A silence fell over you for a moment - you just stared, neither of you knowing what to say. It's not that you didn't have anything to say, because you'd planned a whole speech in your head on the way over. It had been a whole fucking soliloquy about...something. You'd forgotten now. It felt like it didn't matter.
And as you stared into his eyes - at the flecks and the laughter lines - you hoped that one day, you could get to know them all over again.

In Between the Lines Chapter 2 (Erik Stevens x OC)
Teaser [1]
Prompt: “C'mon, I wanna hear you say it.”
Word Count: 2.5k
Warnings: Angst... I can’t help it.
That was her problem.
Elloise couldn't see. So she liked to touch.
It was how she was able to experience the world. It was also the bane of Erik’s existence.
She was always fiddling & touching and it drove him right up the wall.
Didn't she know that some people would misinterpret her actions?
That’s exactly why he hung around her so much, she was entirely too trusting. And he didn't want someone with ill intentions to take advantage of her.
That’s what it was.
Not because he wanted her hands to be on him and him only.
Or because he wanted to see exactly what that mouth could do.
It was because she had a bleeding heart for every seemingly suffering individual and it would be her downfall.
That’s what it was.
As such he made it his mission to weave his way into her days because Elloise was one of the few people he actually liked around here.
He remembers the first time he met the woman who had ownership of his heart.
~~
It was 2 years ago when hehad just arrived at the palace. The place that was supposed to be his home. After he decided to work alongside T’Challa to better improve relations between Wakanda and the rest of the world it was decided.
He could learn more about his father, his birth place, and detach from his old hobby.
Killing people.
So when the young man approached him with a smile on his face and gesturing towards his gear he put a stop to it quick.
He still had some of his pieces on him and he didn’t want that getting messed with.
He rolled his eyes and mumbled an “nah I’m good boss” under his breath before walking around him.
The man began to follow him, looking intently at him with a confused look on his face.
“Do you need some help with your bags?” He gestured to his belongings once more.
“I’m good man.” He responded back again lowly. What was this dude’s problem?
Then he heard it. Her.
"Would you quit mumbling under your breath? If you have something to say, speak up, if not, you'd be better off shutting up".
He looked to the side and took in the woman who emerged from one of the many entrances that lead to the front hall.
She looked lithe and soft. She had dark skin and plump lips, wild coily hair, and a dress that accentuated her waist dangerously. Her cleavage was artfully on display and he was definitely taking a look.
This was the exact kind of woman he enjoyed whining, dining and bending over at the end of the night.
He would also probably do something wicked to that mouth…
He cocked his head and the corner of his lip lifted up in amusement.
“What you say ma?”
He watched as she walked towards him with intent and an odd aura of grace.
Interesting.
She stopped much too close to him.
"Erik... when you entered these grounds — the palace — my house — because that's what this is... my house — you consented to abiding to the rules of this household”.
"Some of which include forgoing your "I used to kill people for a living" vibe so that the differently abled individuals in the residence can comfortably get their jobs done".
What was she going on about? Differently abled?
She gestured to the young man who came to take his bags.
"James is hard of hearing. It helps that you speak clearly, and preferably facing him, so he can better assist you".
Erik turned to take him in. Then he saw it.
James smiled politely and gestured to the tiny hearing aid that was discreetly placed behind his ear.
Erik swallowed. He felt like a dick. He palmed the back of his neck.
"Nah uh... I'll carry my own weight." he responded after clearing his throat.
James nodded and looked back at the woman as if waiting for a command.
She turned to him "Thanks James, it seems like Mr. Stevens has it covered. You can go now."
The young man nodded and went on his was and Erik could’ve sworn he heard a snicker from him as he retreated. He glared at his retreating back.
"Can I touch you"? she asked tilting her head.
"What"? he asked confused.
She gestured toward his face. “Can I touch you? Your face specifically”. She repeated.
Erik squinted still trying to understand what exactly her problem was.
"Why the fu —". She never let him finish.
"We'll be spending a lot of time together now that you’re officially part of the royal family”.
“What’s that gotta do with you touching me?”.
"To save you further embarrassment, and a repeat scenario… in case you missed it Mr. Stevens... I'm blind". She pointed to her eyes to convey her point.
There was a moment of silence before Erik realized.
He wasn't sure how he missed it. He was getting comfortable and terribly out of practice.
She had done a very good job of presenting as normal as possible.
He ducked lower to her level to meet her eyes. True enough her deep brown eyes were unfocused and there seemed to be a gray film over them but they were brown nonetheless.
She repeated her question.
"Can I touch your face, so I know what you look like?” she gestured to him leaning forward invasively close.
“What if I say no”? He responded back defiantly. She wouldn’t catch him slipping twice.
“Then you say no”. she shrugged leaning back.
“I wouldn’t touch you without your consent, another one of our house rules that I hope you’ll remember”. She replied in a patronizing fashion.
He took offence.
“I’m a killer, not a rapist.” he spat out.
“That’s good to hear”. she commented before walking up the stairs encouraging him to follow.
“I’ll show you to your room, and it’s a pleasure to meet you Erik.”
And that was the beginning of their relationship.
~~
He idled about and nursed a drink in his hands and tried to look the least bit engaged at this donor dinner. He hated these dinners.
He’d have to watch Elloise on his cousins arm the entire night. Not to forget the attendees who were there for selfish political gain alone.
He watched closely as she made the rounds with T’challa around the room. She had chosen a deep green dress with a dangerous V that held his attention throughout the night.
T’challa paraded her around the room like the gift she was and he knew this was the part of him she fell in love with.
That’s why he was surprised to find her alone and still dressed to the nines in the palace kitchen in the middle of the night.
He had changed into his comfortable sweats and made his way over to decide on which concoction of alcohol would knock him out for the night.
She had a plate of lamb and potatoes untouched in front of her.
She didn’t startle when he spoke. She probably knew he was here based on his cologne or possibly just heard him when he came in.
“Midnight snack?” He paused and sat in the seat across from her.
“I got the chef to make me something then sent him away.” She spoke clearly. He heard the hardness in her voice.
She was upset.
He saw that the lamb sat on the play uncut and her hands lay in her lap.
“Let me get some of that.”He reached over for the plate and she stopped him.
“Erik. I like lamb.” She held onto the plate refusing to let up.
He sighed.
“Here, I got it.” He stretched his hands for the cutlery.
“I can do it myself.” She protested eyebrows furrowing.
“I know that.”
She still held onto the fork with hostility. She was upset.
“I like doing this so relax okay? You know it’s not like that.” he sucked his bottom lip into his mouth and awaited her answer.
With that she reluctantly released the cutlery to him and folded her hands in her lap carefully.
She heard the fork and knife scrape against the plate as Erik cut it into pieces. She couldn't help but inhale a little bit deeper.
She liked the way he smelled. Erik always smelled like warmth..
She didn't know what to do with her hands. They were always doing something. Touching, feeling, studying, working.
She tried so hard to not be caught lacking, to be looked at as unable.
She would always have an excuse, because of her condition, but she pushed herself to insane lengths to never have to use it.
With Erik she was able to relax without being scrutinized, when it was just the two of them it was different.
This was... nice. She liked it.
"Potatoes too?" he asked wondering if he should slice up the baby potatoes that accompanied the lamb on her plate.
She shook her head — negative, she liked them whole.
"Thank you". she replied back softly.
"Don't mention it". He responded before carefully handing the fork back to her.
Her fingers lingered on his hand a moment before she pulled them away seemingly unaware.
Erik lived for moments like these.
He watched attentively as she speared the tender meat and placed it in her mouth and began to chew.
“Where’s T? Why isn’t he here with you right now?” He was sure he’d be tearing it up tonight. She looked that damn good.
She paused and looked down. “He… got called away for an emergency.”
They both knew what that meant. Erik wanted blood.
“You can’t let him get away with disrespecting you like this El. Tell somebody. The elders. Anybody.” He urged with subdued rage.
“Would they blame him? Or would his actions be chalked up to something else?” She shifted in her seat.
“Maybe how in more than one way I’m not enough.” She placed another piece of meat into her mouth and chewed slowly.
Despite the hot anger that flowed through his veins, he knew it was the truth.
He hated that it was the truth.
He despised his cousin for taking that vulnerable woman and turning her into this.
He was going to end him.
They weren’t that close anyways.
He could see it now.
He’d start from his left hip bone and do a clean cut — probably with something classic. Like a black pearl switchblade. Then he’d —
“You can’t say anything Erik.” she commanded. It was if she heard him plotting.
He scoffed.
“It’s not your right.” She said.
Her mouth was sharp as ever.
He hated that mouth.
He dreamed of that mouth.
He was the forgotten cousin. An honorary royal. Offered a position for blood ties and even then, it was decorative.
An outcast.
Maybe that’s why they got along so well.
She placed another potato between her lips.
He rose from his seat and stood behind her.
He began to remove the large decorated pins from her pressed hair. His fingers reached the nape of her neck and she finally released the tension that her body held.
“I didn’t say I was going to do anything.” He spoke lowly above her, focused on the task at hand.
She leaned into his hand and he snuck his fingers into her hair and found her scalp.
He rubbed at it gently, product would cling to his fingers later but he didn’t mind it.
“We’re the same you and I.” She hummed.
He cocked his head and continued his task.
He never understood her when she said that. But in fear of being scolded he kept quiet.
She was good. So good. He was bad bad bad.
He felt her shuffle to rise and he stopped his actions unwillingly.
She sat up and he reluctantly removed his fingers from her head.
She ran her palms down her dress to straighten it out before she looked in his direction.
“You’re harmless. ” She joked lightly before lifting her hand awaiting his arm to lead her back to her room.
He raised an eyebrow.
“Girl, you should be scared of me.” He murmured slyly.
She rolled her eyes.
He offered her his arm and she grasped it in a familiar fashion and let him lead her.
They walked leisurely through the hallways. When he didn’t get a response to his last statement he assumed his previous joke fell flat.
“Erik, when are you gonna go?” She asked softly. Her fingers added more pressure into his arms, concern lacing her tone.
She’s been pestering him for months to go to therapy — deal with his murderous thoughts.
He didn’t like the idea.
So he wasn’t going to do it.
“I’ll go when you go.” He shot back.
She sniffed and turned her face away from him.
He grinned cheekily, dimples shining through.
“You know why I can’t go. It’d be taboo for me. Plus, they treat me like an invalid.” he watched her mouth twist into a scowl.
He scoffed, and continued to lead them to her destination.
Their route was coming to an end and he knew she felt it.
As they got closer and closer to her quarters her grip tightened on his bicep. And he paused.
“Erik I’m scared.” she whispered.
“If he can do this. Openly. In our room. In our bed, then...”
“What’s next? What’s next for me?“ she looked in his direction — lost.
“If he don’t got you, I got you.” He crowded her space and bent down so he could be level with her.
She needed to understand that she could rely on him for anything. He wasn’t sure he knew just how deep his feelings went for her.
She lifted her hands to hold his face. It was how she saw. Her hands immediately found his beard. He saw the tears pool in the corner of her eyes.
“Anytime you get scared you call me. You hear me?”
Her gaze was downcast. This wouldn’t do.
“I’ll gut em. Like fishes. The whole lotta them.” He pushed out huskily.
“Erik...” she murmured disapprovingly.
“You believe me?” He asked.
“I —“
“C'mon, I wanna hear you say it.” He pushed lowly committed to making her see that she wasn’t alone, he was there.
“Yes Erik, I believe you.” She whispered lowly. She quickly wiped the tears that had slid down her face disobediently.
“Good.”
“Goodnight E.” She stepped back and turned to her door. He watched as she steadied herself.
He stuffed his hands in his pockets to stop himself from grabbing her and crushing her in his embrace.
He wanted to grab her and kiss away her fears.
Instead he subdued his wants and watched her walk through her door.
The door to the room she shared with T’Challa.
He spun around and began the familiar path back to the kitchen.
After knocking back the drink of the night he steadied himself.
Erik walked to his chambers in the same manner he did every night — longing for his cousin's wife.

•••••••••••••
y/n! Are you sleeping?”
Registering his words, you replied in a groggy voice,“What the fuck do you want?”
“Your phone. I left mine in the medical room. I need to call Mark right now.” with some authority, he spoke.
Whining loudly, you fell back on the bed. It was only due but flailing your arms and legs like a kid in a toy store, you let out a screech full of annoyance, cursing your fate.
Were you really going to babysit him now?
"Have you suddenly lost your hearing? Stop with this sick attitude and open the door."
A puff of air left your nose, your chest moved rhythmically with your stomach and you relaxed your arms beneath your head, eyes fixed at the fan above and ears ringing with his voice. He kept calling you and after a number of shouts, you started humming to distract yourself, afraid that you'd end up helping him otherwise. That was something, naturally, you were not interested in. Last time he had ignored your voice and now nature had presented you with an opportunity to return the favour. Just with a bit less flavour.
"Are you dead?"
"Hmmm. To you, yes I am." Mumbling, you yawned and pushed yourself up to reach your side table and fishing out your earphones from the bottom drawer, you untangled them and fixed them comfortably in your ear, hiding yourself underneath the sheets.
Sonata no.14 instantly transported you away from the noise and the stress that was your unwanted husband, yuta. The smile playing on your lips widened as you realised that you were his only mode of communication at the moment.
But You were going for a nap. Until then, he could wait. And thrash. And cry. Or die.
Rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, you rotated the handle of the door to walk outside but your little trip was interrupted when your body collided straight into a wall. No. The obstruction was too soft for a wall.
Opening your eyes properly, you saw yuta standing stiff. Surprised at the sudden appearance, you immediately stumbled back and in hurry, hit your spine on the wooden door. The glare of his eyes, that always spoke more than you could comprehend, coupled with a clenched jaw, was not a very pleasant sight for sure yet you found it harder to dart your own eyes away from him.
"Your phone" he seethed, breathing deeply.
"Huh?" You croaked out.
He raised his brow and in an instant, the previous scenario played like a short movie in your head. Snapping your head down, you regarded his leg with pity. He obviously noticed it immediately but seemed to ignore it and refrained from saying anything. Good for you, you thought.
"Are you deaf?"
Your furrowed brows met his eyes and with a roll of his own, he picked up his finger to force his demand but you managed to walk back inside your room before he could've done that.
Your back faced him as you contemplated your options while slowly stretching your arm to reach for your phone on the other side of the bed.
should you even be giving him your phone?
You had more trust in Taeyong than the man you shared a roof with so there was no way you were doing that.
Unbeknownst to you, yuta was watching your movements intently and the way you bobbed your head, he knew you were scheming something so he decided to be polite for a moment. Only until you were needed. Or your phone was needed.
Once the phone was in your hand, another thought crossed your mind.
"Wait. Where is the house phone?" Crossing your arms, you asked him slyly, already knowing the answer
"You fucking never got it installed. It's still in its stupid package" he seemed rather impatient.
"And you could've called reception through the door telecom. He would have phoned Mark for you. These rich apartments certainly have more hospitality tha-
"I CAN'T GO AROUND DISTRIBUTING AN UNDERGROUND CRIMINAL'S CONTACT NUMBER TO EVERYONE"
He inhaled and exhaled and you just watched until he opened his eyes again, hand reaching out to you.
"Chill. I've every right to be sceptic especially when you are the one asking for it."
Finding Mark's number on your phone, you called him.
Yuta's hand threaded through his rough hair as he noticed what you were trying to do.
"Hey mark!" Your chirpy voice resounded in the room and yuta was sure this was some different spirit speaking. You sounded too bubbly for the way you were investigating him just a second ago.
"Yes yes. His phone exactly.i don't trust him enough to hand over my phone so that's why I'm calling you myself. Just hurry up if you can or you might have to clean up a dead body in the next few hours."
With that you cut the phone. Without meeting yuta's gaze and resting your hand on the handle, you mumbled,
"He'll be here in an hour."
You were about to close the door when he stopped it with the palm of his hand, alerting you with the force.
"Tell him to get some food too."
And limping, he retired back, to the couches.
Sighing, you messaged mark. Had it been for something else, you'd have ignored but your own stomach had signalled you that it needed some good food so you chose not to fight against your own body.
Now, only the taste of the food could decide how many days you were going to tolerate that barbaric human.
"Are you still going to that stupid internship?" Johnny hesitantly murmured from your desk chair while taking big bites from the plate.
"It's not stupid please! I’m just waiting for them to actually pay attention to my awesome capabilities so they can transfer me to the main branch. This is not bad either but”, you stopped to lick your forefinger and tasting the sauce, continued, “but I really wanna go into the criminal unit. That’s where the actual fun is. As long as i’m being paid decently, i’ll suffer with the stupid research work here.”
“With the tongue as sharp as yours, I think you should be getting ready for a demotion instead” he laughed, showing you his fake bunny teeth in the most annoying and childish way.
“Ha ha ha ha. Some well wisher you are! Thank you so much for looking out for me but I'll be fine. Who knows the gatekeeper’s pay package is more than me. So it’d be a win-win in that case too I guess?” when you did a drum roll with your chopsticks to stress upon your point, he laughed harder.
"So being broke is the new black?" Rolling his eyes, he dragged out, "I swear you kids don't know how this world works."
"And you, grandpa of the century, knows?"
"I'm aware of what I need for my survival and from what I've learnt, you can either take risks or look for job security. In your case, " he fake coughed, "where the proportions of risk taking have already exceeded the acceptable limit, a job security is the best and safest option to choose."
"And that would justify my greed and desire to work for the biggest company of this city."
"Kun. The security you need and the independence you seek would be given by kun. Chois are hmm how to say? Cheap? Yeh cheap. They have no work ethics. "
"Have you worked with them, johnny?"
"No. I'm ju-
"Then was your ex a choi?" You saw his eyes comically and cutely widening at your remark.
"No. My ex wasn't a choi and that's not what I'm saying and you know that."
"Oh. So your ex wasn't a choi. Then a lee? Kim? Im? Oh my god! Look at your cheeks seo!" You dragged out. He shook his head as you kept wiggling your brows at him.
"She was a kim but that doesn't mean I would hate all kims dude. That's baseless and stop ignoring the topic. I want you to apply in Kuns. It's the best option. Do it as soon as you-
"Yeah yeah we'll see about that. First take that bitch back. I can't even nap in his presence. "
"Umm. Yeah. You gotta tolerate him. And besides he's injured. Injured yuta is like a gun without a bullet. He's gonna shout for a day or two and then peace out. He'll be sleeping and reading in his room and you won't even know if he's alive or not."
"Now that's bullshit. What is he going to do here anyway? I hope he can hop himself on one leg because even if the sun rises from the north, I am not going to do a single task for him. He can die hungry , for all I care.”
“Do you think you can endure him for some tasty dinners?”
Clicking your tongue, you quipped, “Do you really think you can buy me with a few homemade meals?”
Day 1
Yes. you were sold. The moment the tasty noodles had melted in your mouth, you knew you had no dignity. And you were indeed ashamed of yourself.
Earlier, Renjun had called you to inform you that he had delivered the food and medicines for yuta and had left your dinner box but he had failed to mention the special and endearing note that was pasted on the glass box. In the curvy letters, it read bitchy piglet and you swore the only person you’d be killing before yuta would be jaehyun. But you were going to use jaehyun to build up your tolerance instead.
When you went out to clean your dishes, he was playing some game on his phone, excitement evident from the way he was laughing every other second. Maybe if he remained occupied, he would not be so insufferable.
Day 3
"Oyii! Oyii!"
No. You were wrong. He was very very much insufferable.
At midnight, his voice echoed, disturbing your sleep. You cursed at the cool atmosphere that had prevented you from using the air con which otherwise would have blocked his annoying screeches. But it seemed like bad luck wanted to change its name to y/n instead. With your name being called like a broken record, it was a fight between you and him that you were not going to lose. Shuffling to your side, you covered your ears with the other pillow and tried to drown out the annoyingly demanding and hoarse voice. There was no way you were giving him the satisfaction of having any power over you. He could cry for all he liked!
“What the fuck do you want at this hour?”
Attempting a glare at him through sleepy lids, you spewed with irritation. Unlike you, he was very much awake, breathing with the sole purpose of making you question your whole existence.
“Pillow” scratching his non-existent beard, he mumbled.
Your nostrils flared and jaw clenched at such inconvenient command.
“You summoned me for a pillow? A pillow that can normally be found on a person’s bed? Can you please rectify your demand or did I just simply hear something wrong?”
The opened curtains and the moonlight that drenched the room was the only source that illuminated his face for you and even with drooping eyes, you could see how serious he was and yet you couldn't hold your tongue back because he simply deserved every shit you bestowed him with.
“Turn the lights on and count the pillows on my bed! And when you are done, get me some pillows from your room.” he simply stated.
“Why should i give you my pillow? I need them!”
“Because I don't use a pillow and I need it asap!”
“Then why do you suddenly need one? To disturb my sleep? Oh that makes sense.” and suddenly, your eyes had synced with your body to side with your fight mode.
“I need them for elevating my leg. The bandage is too tight and it’s not comfortable.”
“Then why don't you walk out of the room and get some cushions for yourself!” you raised your volume.
“Because my leg is in pain and i’m unable to get up? What makes you think I'm dying to see your ugly face at this time of the night. I dont wanna have nightmares of you as well but i can't help it ok!”
“you should have kept them near you. And who are you calling ugly hmm? You poop fac-
“Okay scream for all you want! But get me a pillow when your battery dies down!”
“What the fuck d- are you covering your ears? Wow ways to be generous!”
Stomping your foot, you left the room to get the hardest cushion on the couch.
“Here! Next time call Mark if you want anything. Don’t raise your voice ever again to call me because unlike you, i have work in the morning and hence I need some sleep..”
Just when you were about to leave after shoving the cushion in his hand, he spoke up again,
“This is damn hard! I asked for your pillow specifically and not th- AHH!”
A scream left him as you harshly removed the support , leaving his leg to painfully meet the mattress.
“How about you fix your attitude before fixing your leg?” suggesting, you dropped the cushion on the floor and left.
He didn't call you after that. Nor that you cared. However, the sleep in your eyes somehow vanished. Dancing on your sides didn’t help. Neither did drinking a glass of water. So, with a groan, you listened to your conscience and picked up your extra pillow that was sadly too perfect for your enemy.
Padding to his room, you tried your best to scrutinise and hearing his heavy snores, you placed the pillow right under his thigh and the cushion under his calf. Scoffing at his sleeping figure, you internally groaned to remind yourself that you hadn't done it for him. It was just a debt. For the blanket he had once covered you with. Nothing more and nothing less.
Day 5
You just wanted him out of your hair. He was just being a load on your head. At first, only the work was kicking your ass, then jungwoo was kicking you like a punching bag for an hour straight and adding to your distress was yuta.
"I'm not your maid! Stop piling up the dishes for me. I've had enough mercy on you. From today onwards, get a cleaner for yourself or buy disposable cutlery. I'm not going to clean after you!"
With a roll of his eyes, he had ignored you.
And so did you. Pasting a warning note on the sink tap, you had left for the library with a dying hope that maybe the kitchen would be spotless on your arrival or you'd be dialing some numbers in the evening.
For someone who despised the solemn atmosphere of libraries, you had successfully spent 11 hours in the said hellish room. It was 11 p.m and you wanted to sleep, more than anything but here you were, waiting for yugyeom so he'd just pick you up for a good drinking session that you were dying to have.
Fortunately, you weren't the only one who had missed living these past days. Everyone, for different reasons, was suffering so you felt a little less bad for yourself even though you knew your troubles were far more grave than their academic burdens.
"Wake up shorts" someone whispered in your ear. Squirming on your seat, you whipped your head in your sleepy state and found jungkook caressing your head, goofily smiling at you.
"I thought you wanted to hang out till the next morning" air quoting the last words, he picked up your bag.
"Yeah. Let's go. I'm all ready for a night full of vodkas." You yawned out.
"Definitely. No. You are going home. We can have a small get together me and yuggy are done with our final project." He dragged you out into the parking lot.
" I feel like it's been years since we got drunk together. You are never here anymore!" You whined at him, complaining your heart out.
"I will be. Soon. Then we can celebrate your little choi job as well."
"Oh please. Don't even mention it. If I had penny for every time they rolled their eyes at me, I'd be richer than your parents kook." You huffed out and as his gentle laugh surrounded you, you closed your eyes resting your back against the seat, expecting to be up by the time he'd park.
But the next day, you woke up tangled in the sheets of your bed, unaware of the events of the previous night.
When you had warned yuta about the dirty dishes, you hadn't expected him to fill the corners of the kitchen with disposable containers. It looked like you had missed a whole drama while sleeping in the library. The kitchen was shining except for the new utensils. But as long as you were not babysitting him, you were fine with anything. You didn't want to jinx your relief, however, you were glad you would be able to get some work done. finally.
You had spoken too early for your own good. Just when you sat down to write your paper, passionate and enthusiastic howls of that man pierced through your earphones and once again, you opened the window and hopped outside, in the balcony, ready to drown him out. Sipping on your lemonade, you gaped at the scenery the not so distant traffic provided you with and somehow, your thoughts wandered to the only person these horns reminded you of. Johnny.
What are you doing? Your fingers hovered over the text but once again, you deleted the message, declaring it to be too childish for someone as mature as him. Maybe you were just being silly. Maybe you were not. But who was going to put a stamp on your maybe?
Tears pricked your eyes as the harsh words of your senior thundered in the room. He kept shouting and you had no option than to consume each and every word he directed at you. Even if you were being insulted in front of your twenty other co-workers, staying quiet was the best option, you ascertained. so along with your saliva, you gulped your explanations down your throat.
Howsoever unconscious, you were still in the wrong. There was no excuse as to why you had mailed the wrong bills, apart from the headache that was caused by the person possibly lying on the sofa and watching t.v back home. No matter how much you tried to run away from his existence, he had somehow managed to let himself inside your head.
Glaring at the kid who asked for his turn on the park swing, you pushed yourself a little higher, letting the wind greet your stinging eyes as it hit your face in waves. Your phone buzzed in your pocket and you chose to ignore jungwoo for a day as it was the time, you decided, to let all the lessons that the past few months had taught you sink into your mind, to bleed into your soul so you won’t ever be able to deviate from them. Ever.
Only if that was so easy. You knew blaming others for your problems was no solution but trivialising them by not paying heed wasn't a smart move either.
When you reached home, your frustrations had died down. So when yuta simpered and pointed towards your empty container, telling you how he had already finished your supposed dinner, you simply rolled your eyes at him, robbing him of whatever he wanted to achieve by riling you up. Heating up the water, you were about to open the noodles packet when yeong called you.
You stared at the shattered phone screen in disbelief as the endless tears ran down your cheeks. As you verbalised the words to yourself again, your body met the floor with a thud.
Jungkook. Drugs. No more.
Three words had silenced the screeches in your head and your mind busied itself in rejecting what you had heard for it had to be a lie. But what how were you going to ignore the heart wrenching screams that yeong had let out. How were you going to dismiss the truth.
How were you all going to accept it?

SESSION TWELVE of the BatIM Call of Cthulhu game, aka Continuing to have a Great Time At The Masquerade! : )
Joey and Bendy destabilised early on, meaning Joey went through the ENTIRE masquerade UNABLE TO STOP SMILING
getting some mixed messages here, Joey
Sometimes u dress ur characters up as rabbits for fun but then you have a lot of emotions about them losing their minds and then u gotta draw them losing their minds while dressed as rabbits... anyway Jack being mind-controlled did NOT help Sammy hold onto his mental stability at this nightmare party in case you were wondering,
ANYWAY HAVE, MORE OUT-OF-CONTEXT QUOTES, UNDER THE CUT
[Sammy is played by me, Joey is played by Boo (inkyvendingmachine), Henry is played by Maf (inkcryptid), Jack is played by Mochi (whatyouwantedmetosee) and Thren (haunted-hijinxer) is our GM!]
[GM] Joey, make a POW roll also... [Joey] Oh, boy, [GM] ...because Bendy was also told to enjoy this party, and you guys just passed a plate of food, and he wants to eat! [Jack] FEED YOUR SON! [Joey] No!!! [Henry] HES A HUNGRY BOY! [Sammy] A GROWING BOY!
[Henry] Henry will look back to see if Moonlight is trying to follow them! [GM] He will see that Moonlight has grabbed onto the railing of the stairs and is hobbling slowly down them. [Joey] *extremely evil-sounding cackling*
[Jack] All Cthulhu Official Dice actually come weighted, to make you fail.
[Henry] Gotta try harder than that, bitch! [Henry] ....that wasn't in character. [Jack] It's in character, but he's only thinking it. [Sammy] That's the golden text you see on the wall if you use the seeing tool
[Henry] My Luck is 68, I don't know what y'all are doing! [Jack] We're spending Luck so that we'll fail! [Sammy] BEING UNLUCKY! I've barely spent any Luck, I'm just NOT A LUCKY GUY
[Henry] Oh, Avedon's here, [GM] There's a gunshot, and he tries to shoot Fowler! [Joey] Um, well, uh, whoops!, rest in peace Fowler! [Sammy] Yeah, that'll sort itself out, let's go! [GM] Moonlight seems to reconsider from telling people to grab you guys, to grabbing Avedon instead. [Joey] Oh! THANKS AVEDON, your sacrifice will, not be thought about in the slightest!!!
[Sammy] Is... weird question, does this room look like it matches the architecture of the rest of the house? [GM] [GM] [GM] ...make a sanity check.
[Sammy] It would be a like, Come on Jack, do you know where you are, shake it off, snap out of it, kind of thing. [GM] Why don't you make a... a.... oh boy, [Sammy] One of my REALLY persuasive social skills?
[GM] This probably just registers to Jack as, Sammy griping about a party, which isn't that strange. [Jack] Yeahhhh, he wants to leave. He always does that. I wanna stay at least a little longer! [GM] That just means it's Jack's job to find them something fun and good to do. [Sammy] Oh boy, [GM] I don't think Jack is being compelled to be aggressive about this necessarily, he just feels like he's Jack at a party, doing the things Jack normally does, and trying to have a good time! [Sammy] Ah, and everyone else is being weird, [GM] Yeah! Everybody's being really weird! You're at this nice party, and now you're in this weird room? The party's back there somewhere! [Jack] I mean not that he's opposed to bein' dragged into side rooms at parties by cute boys, but,
[GM] The table looks like a table that Henry has in his house, actually. [Sammy] Have I ever been in Henry's house? These are questions I didn't expect to need to ask tonight.
[Sammy] Jack, this is weird! You see this is weird, right?! [Jack] Well yeah, it is kinda weird that we're in-- what are we doing here? [Joey] Joey is going to grab Jack's arm, and point to the next door, and go "Party is this way!"
[GM] Peter looks worried... [Sammy] Sammy looks worried too! Well, Sammy looks angry, but in a worried way.
[Joey] Joey is going to scream frustratedly. [Sammy] Is there ink in this room? [GM] There is not. [Jack] Is there a party in this room? [GM] Definitely no, only the party you bring with you.
[Joey] Joey is going to scream again. [Joey] He's also going to kick the door. He might stub his toe. [Sammy] Through all this, Joey is smiling. I just need us all to remember that. [Joey] YES. Also his tail is furiously going. [GM] Bendy is also upset! There is nothing to eat here.
[Joey] Joey is going to try to feed Bendy some ideas, [GM] He doesn't want ideas, he wants food!
[Joey] So.... what happens if you fumble a sanity roll?
[GM] See, here's the silly part. At this point, right? At this point, the best place to do the tasks you want to do, involve either getting the stone out of the room with the safe, or having the staff that Henry is currently holding. [Sammy] So you would arrive, by completely different means, to the same place that we are! [GM] Clearly Joey is inside the safe.
[Jack] Bad and naughty Joey Drews get put in the safe to atone for their sins!
[Henry] Henry is going to channel his inner Joey Drew and round the corner and say "No, sorry about him, we're just here on inspection, we need to check the safe." [Henry] Which is probably a Fast Talk, which I hope it isn't, because my Fast Talk is a 5. [GM] Unless you wanna try to turn that into a persuade somehow? [Henry] I'll do Persuade! [GM] What are you doing to persuade them, rather than just lying? [Henry] *rolls* I failed... I'm gonna push it... [Sammy] *uneasy noises* IF YOU PUSH IT AND IT GOES BAD, IT GOES WORSE [Henry] AH! HAHA! I ROLLED A SIX! [Sammy] THAT'S STILL NOT LESS THAN FIVE! [Henry] WELL IM DOING PERSUADE! [Sammy] That means you have to NOT LIE! [Henry] ....Fuck. [Henry] Okay, uh, there's an emergency, we need the contents of that safe. [Sammy] THATS STILL A LIE??? [Joey] NO actually, THAT'S TRUE! [Henry] It IS an emergency!!
[Sammy] Sammy cannot believe that this is working.
[GM] Bendy does wonder what his plan is for getting out of the safe. This does not seem like a fun party place. [Joey] Um, [Joey] Joey says it's a surprise.
[GM] Henry, the safe does indeed open! And there's a Joey! [GM] Bendy says "Oh wow!" [Henry] Henry tries his best to keep a straight face, like yes! this is exactly what he came here for! [Sammy] (Sammy is NOT keeping a straight face) [Jack] (Straight? In this party?)
[Jack] He's probably saying something like, "What are you doing, he's one of us!" [Jack] And that could go either way. That could mean "No, he's chill, I will persuade you to stop!" Or that could mean, "We are also criminals!"
[GM, as the guards] Then why does he look like the Yellow King's messenger? [Henry] *not missing a beat* We get that a lot.
[GM] Something falls from the sky and lands in front of him. And it's a person! [Joey] Is he alive? [GM] Very much not. [Sammy] How... how Illusion of Living canon-compliant is this Joey...?
[Jack] So... it would probably occur to Jack that this is weird for a party,
[Henry] Joey don't touch it! [Joey] Why not? [Henry] There's runes around it. I don't know if you can touch it. [Joey] Joey's gonna touch it. [Henry] *long-suffering sigh* If you get zapped, I'll tell you I told you so!
[Jack] Jack really wishes we were just back at the party right now, you guys... [Jack] Only bad things have happened. [Jack] Pete's traumatised, Joey's goopy, the Lurker ate all of the snacks,
[Sammy] Can I try to break free from Henry? Sammy's gonna try to run over there. [Henry] At this point, Sam can go, if he wants. [Sammy] Okay, cool. Then Sammy's gonna go and put ink in his mouth! [Henry] Goddammit. I was hoping you were going to check on Joey!
[Joey] You can’t take all of the sanity hits! You have to leave some for other people! [Jack] Says you! You got so many temps!! And an indefinite!!
[GM] Bendy probably is complaining loudly about WHY DID HE WALK THROUGH THE RUNES??? [Joey] Oh! I thought he was going to complain about the party, or lack thereof, [GM] That’s part of not having fun at the party, he’s not into that! [Joey] Well, [GM] This is not a fun party activity!!
[GM] But he doesn’t think it will destroy either of them, if you do it right! [Jack] That’s a nice, way to end that sentence,
[Sammy] Let us hurry! May I take the stone? [Joey] Joey shrugs. [Sammy] Sammy will, uh, attempt to reach inside of... whatever this is, and find the stone. [Henry] Reach INTO your LOCAL boss, and you will find A Friend And Boy,
[Sammy] Is there anything in this room that I can pick up, and then hit him in the head with? [GM] Henry has a stick... uh....there’s a projector.... [Sammy] Can I pick that up? [GM] No, you cannot. [Sammy] It would be REALLY funny if Sammy dropped a projector on someone else’s head. [Sammy] HOW THE TURNTABLES!!!
[GM] ...Can you impale with a rocking horse...???? [Sammy] I don’t want to impale, I want to knock him in the head so he passes out!!! Rest your head, it’s time for bed!!!
[Jack] I don’t think Jack has any plans after this! [Jack] I meant that in the sense that he doesn’t know what he’s doing next, but the way I phrased it, now it just sounds like he’s hitting on Fowler, like, he doesn’t have anything to do after this, are you free? That’s not canon.
[Joey] I don’t know how this will go, [Sammy] Good luck! [Joey] But Joey would like to-- [Sammy] Sammy believes in half of you! [GM] w-which Sammy? wHICH HALF?!
[Jack] I know you said “note.” But my brain at first processed that word as “milk.” [Henry] *laughing* “Did you get my milk, Fowler?” [Jack] He drank the last carton and he didn’t buy more! [Sammy] “I’m going to the store, want me to get anything? *jumps into the lake*”
[GM] Combat Jack! [Jack] *exasperated* He’s not a Combat Boy! Jack is soft and warm, like mashed potatoes!!!
[GM] Norman is wondering to Henry if he oughta be concerned about you all getting what you want out of this. [Henry] .....Maybe.

Phantoms of the Past: Ch. 5 - Best friends, Boyfriends, and Barons Part 1
"Hey Miss Itamae! Ready for a whole new school year? Hee...hee...eeeh.... yeah, fine." Hiro gave up trying to make small talk with the lunch lady as she unceremoniously slopped meatloaf onto his plate.
Today was the first day of the fall semester and the start of Hiro's second year at SFIT. It felt odd to him, to look back and realize just how much time had passed; how much things had changed during the previous year.
A year ago, today, he had been attending Tadashi's funeral and now he was going about his life as if everything was normal. Well, almost normal. He was also moonlighting as a superhero, adopting an out of time teenager as his new big brother, and befriending deadly robots.
Life was weird.
Of course it wasn't as if he could ignore his loss completely. He had noticed the flowers and cards placed at the foot of Tadashi's memorial over by the exhibition hall. People still remembered that his brother had died a hero. Folks that he didn't even know had left their condolences today, though most of the gifts were from Tadashi's teachers and friends.
Hiro had particularly noticed a painting Honey Lemon had left, of her, Tadashi, and the rest of their friends. He also spotted Gogo sitting out there early that morning, lighting a candle in his brother's memory. He had given her her space, choosing not to interrupt. Gogo and Tadashi had been especially close.
Hiro remembered how excited his brother had been when Gogo finally agreed to go out with him. Tadashi had hurried about their bedroom, a couple of days before the fire, fretting over where to take her on their first date. A date that they had never gotten to go on. At the time Hiro had teased him relentlessly, never passing up the chance to deflate his brother's ego. Now it was just another bittersweet memory to look back on.
Fred abruptly snapped him out of his mournful reflection. "Steve." was all he said as he grabbed Hiro by the shoulders.
"Steve? Uh, my name is Hiro, remember Fred?"
"No, no, no, Steve was the name of the ninja robot that Trina found. She said he was held in a warehouse downtown, along with all the other ninjas. Don't you see, that's our big break! We find this warehouse and then we can track down the mysterious bosu!"
Hiro wearily placed his tray down on the table and took a seat next to Wasabi.
"Fred, it's the first day of school. Can't this wait for later?"
"But-"
"Hiro's right Fred," Wasabi interrupted, "Just because you have all the time in the world to play superhero doesn't mean that we do. We still got our own lives to take care of."
Fred looked hurt at that. "I'm not playing! This is important work. We have a city to protect and this crime boss is just going to keep coming after us if we don't figure out how to stop them."
Wasabi rolled his eyes. "Then you just go on and do that. In the meantime the rest of us have class to attend. I'm heading early to set up for my first lab."
"But labs won't open for like another hour." Hiro pointed out, confused. "They're still cleaning up from the robot attacks last week."
"Ah, he just wants to get there early so that he can see his boyfriend again." Fred complained.
"Sam's not my boyfriend. He's just a colleague, and at least I'm doing something other than obsess over superheroing." And with that Wasabi stormed off, while Fred slouched into the cafeteria chair with a huff.
"Listen, Fred, why don't you go on patrol with Minimax for a while. I'll help you track down this warehouse after school is over with." Hiro said.
"Okay," Fred reluctantly agreed, "but I'm not 'obsessing'."
"I know Fred, but the rest of us also have school to worry about. We just don't have the same amount of free time as you do."
"I know." Fred sighed before walking off.
---------------------------
"Sorry Hiro, but we're kind of busy right now." Honey Lemon regretfully informed her friends.
Fred and Hiro had met up after school as promised. Wasabi had declined to join them on their quest and so they had decided to recruit the girls instead. Though this also seemed to be a fruitless endeavor.
"Yeah, we're kind of in the middle of something." Gogo finished as she leaned back in a reclining chair and placed two cucumber slices over her eyes.
They had found the girls at a spa. Honey Lemon sat next to Gogo with curlers in her hair, and they apparently weren't the only ones out having a beauty day.
"Can't you see we're having some girl time?" Karmi asked, annoyed, as she examined her nails.
"Yeah, Hiro, go take your weird superhero hobby elsewhere?" Megan added.
"It's not weird!" Fred insisted.
"If this is supposed to be a girls only event, then why is he here?" Hiro said, pointing to Varian, who sat next to Megan.
"Uh, getting a manicure obviously." Varian rolled his eyes and then leaned over to show Carol, who was beside him, two bottles of nail polish. "Do you think I should go with the midnight blue or just stick with black?"
"Hmmm... I think either would be nice," she replied.
"Ooooh, have you tried the seaweed wrap they have here? It's great." Fred chimed in.
Hiro rolled his eyes, "Okay, so what are you two doing after this? Could you take up patrol tonight?"
"Nope." Gogo said.
"I promised my brother Carlos that I would help him move into his new dorm room. He starts at UCLA this week and Gogo's offered to drive me there. We won't be back till tomorrow morning." Honey Lemon explained.
"Okay, well, we'll just-"
"Alright, I'm ready." A voice called out, interrupting him.
Trina walked out from behind a door at the back of the spa. Her bulky gigantic metal body was gone and in its place was the frame of a young woman, dressed in a t-shirt, pants, and a cropped jacket. She looked very much the same as the day Hiro had first met her, at the bot fights. Only this time her hair had been cut and styled into a short mohawk and dyed a light purple.
"What do you guys think?" She asked as she twirled around.
Everyone shouted encouragements to her, and Varian cheekily whistled.
"You look nice, Trina." Hiro complimented.
Trina snorted and rolled her eyes. "In your dreams, Hiro." She said, leaving the teenage genius confused by what he had said wrong.
Ignoring him, Trina walked over to the rest of the girls, "Thanks for the clothes... and for everything else." She sheepishly added.
"Hey, no problem." Megan replied. "They look good on you."
"Yeah, and if you need anything else just ask." Karmi added.
"Not to mention it's always fun to have a spa day," Carol piped in. "This was a good idea Varian, thanks for inviting me along."
"Sure thing. When Trina said she wanted help with finding a new wardrobe, I figured all of you would like to go shopping too.... and also y'all know more about clothes than I do."
"Hey, Trina," Fred interjected, "that warehouse where you foun- I mean, met 'Steve', do you happen to remember where it was located?"
Trina gave Fred a frown.
"Oooh, who's Steve?" Karmi asked, happy to gossip, "Is that your boyfriend Trina?"
"No." She said, "The place you're looking for is over in Good Luck Alley, next to Louie's."
"It must've been a bad breakup." Karmi whispered into Honey Lemon's ear, she wasn't very good at keeping her voice down.
"Yeah… he kind of... broke alright." Honey Lemon nervously added, unsure what to say.
"Uh, yeah, well thanks for the tip Trina. We'll be going now, bye." Hiro said as he hurried Fred out the door. He had had enough of awkward conversations and makeovers.
---------------------------
"Fred, wouldn't it be better if we brought our robots along at least?" Hiro whispered.
"You want to sneak around an abandoned warehouse with those two?" Fred whispered back, "I love him, but Minimax doesn't know how to be quiet, like at all."
Hiro sighed, Fred had a point. Baymax also wasn't the best at stealth missions. Hiro slid into the alleyway and peered through a dirty window. He couldn't shake the sense of deja vu as he remembered how he and the robotic nurse had tracked down his missing microbots a year ago at a similar warehouse. They had both been nearly killed by Callaghan when the villain had caught them snooping around. He would prefer to avoid such a scenario again.
"It doesn't look like anyone is here." He said.
"See any ninja robots?" Fred asked as he also pushed by to get a look, pressing his nose against the glass.
"No… Fred, this may be a dead end. Trina already raided the place and no doubt this Bosu would have abandoned the hideout if it was compromised."
Fred pouted, "Maybe… Buuuut, we could always man a stake-out and find out for sure!"
"Fred, I have homework to do. Maybe some oth-"
"Oh please! Just for an hour, or two? Please, please, please? Pretty please? I'll do your homework for you."
"I don't want you doing my homework."
"Okay, chores then; I'll wash Varian's dirty socks and underwear for a… a week… no, a month! Come on, I know how much you hate doing laundry."
Hiro sighed and watched his friend crawl on his knees and beg. "Does it really mean that much to you?"
"Yeeeesss."
"Okay, and no, you don't have to do the laundry either."
Hiro turned to walk out of the alley and Fred got up and followed him.
"That's good, cause I don't actually know how to wash clothes. Usually, Heathcliff does all the laundry. Last time I tried to, I just flooded the washroom."
"Do you have any survival skills? Like at all?"
"Nope. Unless it's kicking bad guys' butts! Ooh, hey, we can host the stake-out at Louie's across the street. I'm starved."
---------------------------
Hiro and Fred took up a window booth inside the restaurant. The establishment had recovered from the police raid from a few months back and was now serving food as usual; though Hiro had already spotted the advertisement for the next upcoming 'bot fight.
A couple of hours past and they had both eaten their meals, plus dessert, along with Fred going back for seconds. Now they were both nursing a couple of cups of coffee, though Hiro's was going cold; it wasn't great coffee.
"Fred…"
"Yeah."
"It's been three hours now."
"I know."
"No one's showed up."
"Not yet."
"Look it's been… 'fun', but I'm going home now."
Hiro got up to leave but Fred grabbed him by the sleeve.
"Oh but… uhh… we haven't even tried the uh… hot dog sushi special. I hear it's really good."
Hiro leaned his head back slowly and closed his eyes in frustration. He didn't want to snap at Fred, really he didn't, but he was quickly losing his patience.
"Fred… no one is coming. Let's just call it a night and try again some other time. Okay." And with that he yanked his hand away and began to walk off.
Fred didn't follow. Instead he sat in the booth, his eyes downcast, staring blankly at nothing. It wasn't his usual pout either. It was something else. Some deeper sadness that few saw from the usually optimistic teen.
Hiro began to worry. He walked back, and stood there waiting for Fred to jump back up all excited again for his return, only he didn't.
"Fred, what's wrong?"
Fred sighed but couldn't bring himself to answer.
"Look, I know that this superhero business is important to you, so much so that you'll probably wind up making a career out of it, which is great, but the rest of us are not going to be doing this for the rest of our lives. We also have to keep up with our studies, chores, our jobs, and what little shred of a social life we have."
"That's not it… I mean yeah, it's a part of it, but that's not why I asked you to come along."
Fred finally looked Hiro in the eye and tears threatened to spill.
"I just miss my best friend, okay."
Hiro looked at him confused.
"I didn't want to say anything, cause… cause he's your brother and I didn't think you'd want to be reminded about him being gone any more than you already have… but today has just been really hard… remembering what happened… I just thought getting out and doing something fun, getting both our minds off everything, might be better than just… just being alone. You know? Especially today."
Fred didn't even have to say Tadashi's name for Hiro to know who he was talking about.
Hiro sighed and slumped back down into the booth.
"I'm sorry…. I… I guess I just… I don't know. I didn't think...."
"No… no, don't. Of course you didn't think. I mean who wants to be reminded of that. The whole idea was to not think about it. And I just ruined it all by bringing it up. Gah…. I'm so sorry."
Fred put his arms over his head and brought his knees up to his chest as if trying to make himself as physically small as he felt. Hiro just had to laugh at the sight in spite of himself.
"It's okay Fred. You're not going to upset me just by talking about Tadashi."
Fred peaked his head out from between his arms. "I'm not?"
"No. I mean he was your friend too."
"My best friend! Man, Tadashi and I, we got up to all sorts of trouble. He was always down for anything. I mean, did he tell you about the time we crashed my cousin's bar mitzvah? As in, we literally crashed. He drove the sport's car into the buffet table by mistake… We couldn't find the parking and then there was this wet patch in the parking lot and we skidded… Oh and then there was the time Mole dared us to a drag race using scooters and Tadshi had the idea to attach rockets to mine and I went flying.. I tell ya, man, Mole wouldn't live it down for a whole week after. He kept demanding a rematch, but I mean it was fair. He was using his butler to ride for him in his place."
Hiro could barely contain his laughter, "Wait… wait… you and Tadashi did all this?"
"Yeah."
"Why have I never heard of any of this before?"
"I don't know, but he's the whole reason why I got the mascot job in the first place. I knew I could never get into the school myself, but I thought we could hang out together more if I went. He's also the one that introduced me to everybody else."
"Then how did you two meet?"
"Oh at the grocery store."
Fred said this as if it was the most obvious of explanations but Hiro looked as confused as ever. So Fred continued on.
"He was there getting chewing gum and I was buying a shopping cart. Like an actual shopping cart."
"Why?"
"Yeah that's what he asked too. So I told him, 'I'm going to ride down Dead Man's Hill in one.' And he said, 'Dude, that's so rad. You're totally going to die.' And I said, 'Yeah, I know. You wanna join?' And he did. We rode all the way down from the top of Lumbar Street to the docks… and landed right in the bay. It was awesome! We screamed our heads off the whole time. It was so awesome, in fact, that we walked back to the store and bought another cart just to do it again. That was back when we were both still in high school, and we've been best buds ever since. You know… until…"
Hiro looked at Fred sadly. There so much about his brother that hadn't known about, hadn't even thought to ask. What else had Tadashi not shared with him? Probably a lot, I mean why tell your kid brother about your social life? And there's no way that he'd have brought those crazy stunts up around Aunt Cass.
"I never knew any of that… Those are some really cool stories. Thanks for sharing them."
"Really?"
"Yeah, and you know, you don't have to drag me on some superheroing mission just to hang out and talk."
Fred looked guilty at that.
"I… I know… but it's like what you and Wasabi have been saying. Everyone else has something… something to motivate them, and y'all all do all these really cool things and I'm… I'm just me. I don't really have anything but superheroing. Unless you just need someone to make a mess."
"That's not true. Fred, you're great at a lot of things. You could go to school or get a job, if you wanted to. I just thought superheroing was all you wanted."
"Hiro, I can't even do laundry without messing up. I mean all you do is throw the clothes into a machine and push a button, and yet somehow I managed to screw even that up. All I know is comic books, and superheroing, and I'm not even the best at that! What would I even go to college for? I can't… I'm not a genius. I'm not a businessman. I'm not an accountant, or an artist, or an athlete. I'm not anything. I've no talent. I'm not even good at being rich. I've never fit in with the socialite crowd."
"Fred."
"Yeah?"
"You're good at being a friend, and if I have to sit here list off everything else you're good at then we'd be here for another three hours or more. So how about we head home and tomorrow I'll show you how to work a washing machine, and you can teach me how a stake-out is supposed to really go cause we're not getting anywhere here."
"Or are we?"
"What do you mean?"
Fred was no longer looking at Hiro but past him. He pointed to the window behind Hiro, and Hiro turned around to see for himself.
An elderly gentleman, dressed in an old fashioned military outfit, complete with a monocle, was entering the warehouse. He had a giant mechanical arm and a steam boiler strapped to his back.
"Baron Von Steamer."
---------------------------
Fred and Hiro found themselves standing in the alley peering through the warehouse's dirty windows for a second time that day. They saw Baron Von Steamer stomping around inside. He seemed irritated as he grumbled to himself and knocked boxes out of the way, as if searching for something.
"What's he doing?" Fred loudly whispered.
Just then Steamer found what he was looking for, a tea cup. He poured himself a cup out of a teapot he had placed on an old fashioned stove that was hidden towards the back and then sat down on top of a crate to sip his drink.
"It must be 'tea time' for him." Hiro said dryly.
Fred narrowed his eyes, "I bet he's just hatching his next nefarious scheme. Planning on how to take us and the city down. What do you think he wants with portals?"
Just then Steamer stood up and ruefully kicked away a busted up robot that had fallen out of a storage crate in his previous hunt for the tea cup.
"I don't think Steamer is our guy." Hiro said, "He hates modern technology, so why would he build ninja robots? Also, like you said, what would he want with portals? All he's after is your dad, and so far the Bosu hasn't gone after Boss Awesome yet."
"But they might. Remember what Roddy said? That Kensei guy used to be active during Dad's heyday but never got caught. What if, it's because Steamer had two villain identities!"
"That seems like a stretch."
"Okay, well, what if Steamer works for this Bosu? Like Sue and Sparkles?"
"That's more plausible, I guess."
Hiro turned to peer through the window again, but Streamer was gone.
'Wait, where did he go?'
"Well, well, well, what do we have here? A pair of interlopers." A curt British voice came from behind them.
Steamer must have noticed them and snuck around the back, cutting them off.
Hiro grabbed his phone in order to call his super suit, but Von Steamer nabbed his hand and yanked him off the ground, causing him to lose hold of his phone.
Fred was just as unfortunate, as Steamer held him in a choke hold in his metal arm.
"Waaaait," Steamer said as he eyed them both up closely, peering at them through his oversized monocle, "I know you two. You're friends of Boss Awesome's baby child!"
"I am Boss Awesome's baby child!" Fred protested before Von Steamer gave him a hard squeeze with his cyborg arm. Fred wheezed in pain.
Hiro reacted quickly and kicked the steampunk baron in the shins.
Von Steamer howled in pain and dropped Hiro in surprise, though he managed to keep his grip on Fred. He also had stepped on Hiro's phone while nursing his injured leg.
Hiro ducked and ran as Steamer regained his senses and pulled out a brass gun that was connected to the boiler on his back with a hose. He pulled the trigger and scalding steam shot out. Hiro ducked again to avoid it.
As he ran out of the alley way he heard Steamer shouting after him, "Yes, run back to Boss Awesome little one. Tell his baby child I have their friend, and either he, or they, must show up to face me or else!"
Hiro spared a glace backwards and saw Baron Von Steamer dragging Fred back into the warehouse.
"Fred!"
"Hiro!" Fred called out to him before being pulled into the darkness.
Hiro panicked. What could he do? Finally, he decided that getting help was the best option. He ran as fast as his legs would carry him, fighting back his worry.

Early one morning I woke up and got ready for the day. Bucky wasn’t awake yet so I walked to the kitchen table, grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, then wrote him a note that said I was going out for a while and that I would be back later. After picking up some of the money we had stored in a giant jar on the floor, I headed to the door and down the stairs, out into the busy Romanian morning.
Cars and people bustled down the streets every which way. I walked a few blocks away before arriving at an old book store. I had been thinking for a while that maybe if Bucky read something that he used to love, then maybe that would help some memories resurface.
Stepping through the threshold, I was hit with the comforting smell of old books and what seemed to be a vanilla candle. In the corner, right next to the door, is the cashier, a small, hunched old woman who, every time I come in here, is sleeping. She jostles a bit at the sound of the bell when the door shuts but doesn't wake.
I continue on into the shelves of books, looking for anything Bucky might like. Even though it was a Romanian book store, there were many English selections of classic books. I scoured the shelves for a while before coming to a stop at one of his favorites, ‘The Hobbit’. I gently took it off the top shelf and fingered through the old, yellowing pages. Dust from the top of the book fell to the floor as I did so. Closing it, I started to scan for something else for me to read, this time making sure it was one of the very long ones, considering I had read the short four hundred page one about three times already. There was a small paperback copy of Victor Hugo’s ‘Les Miserables’ sitting on the second shelf from the floor. I grabbed it and sat it on top of the other book in my arms and headed for the front.
The old woman was still napping away when I placed my small stack onto the counter. I forwent ringing the service bell and just reached over to give a strong tap on her shoulder. Having been here before, I knew she wouldn’t wake up to the sound of it. She swatted my hand away and I tapped her a second time a little more harshly, she woke up that time, muttering in Romanian that she was awake. I greeted her with a soft hello before placing the coins for the books into her boney, outstretched hand. She thanked me then I was on my way back to the apartment.
I took a small detour through the open market stalls a block or two away from the apartment. I take my time looking through the small amount of fresh fruit that was offered so early in the year. I move along, not finding anything of interest. I make my way through the crowd of people to continue my original journey back home.
It was close to eleven by now and when I opened the door and stepped into the apartment, my nose was filled with the smell of something burning. Quickly I shut the door and run down the tiny hallway and into the main room. Bucky was standing over a smoking pan on the stove, while right next to it was a pot, almost boiling over.
“Buck what in the world are you doing?” I ask as I move towards him to turn the eyes off.
“I was trying to make breakfast for lunch. It was supposed to be an ‘I’m sorry I scared you and brought back bad memories’ meal since I never told you I was sorry, but I burnt the eggs and bacon.” He tells me before he leans over to the trash can and dumps the charred food in.
I moved around to stand next to him and placed my right hand on his firm metal bicep. “Thank you, I really appreciate the sentiment.” I smiled up at him then looked down at what was in the now slowly bubbling pot with chopped potatoes. “Look,” I pointed out, “the potatoes are fine.” Bucky followed my outstretched finger and gave a small nod.
“Go sit down, I'll make something with these.” He directed. I looked at him skeptically as I slowly backed away.
“Are you sure you don’t want my help?”
“Yes, sit.”
And so I did. I went directly to my bed where I had thrown the books, took up mine, and then started to read. It was hard to concentrate though since I looked up from the pages every two seconds to make sure Bucky wasn’t going to burn the whole building down again, but he seemed to be doing fine. He had ended up frying the chopped potatoes in butter with a bunch of random seasonings.
Several minutes later he had finished and was scooping the food onto two separate plates. He picked the plates up and made his way around the island and to the loveseat in front of it. Sitting down he placed his plate on the arm of the furniture and then called me over. I picked myself up off the mattress and plopped myself down beside him and took my plate from his hands.
“Thank you,” I mumbled as I took the fork into my hand and started eating. Surprisingly the food was actually good. I turned my eyes to him, he was staring at me, probably waiting for my thoughts on the food. I nodded my head as I chewed as a sign that it was good. He smiled softly and proceeded to eat his.
“That was really good, Buck. Next time when you cook though, stick to one thing at a time, don’t try to cook it all at once.” I said once I had finished.
“I’ll keep that in mind. Um,” he paused a second. “Where did you go this morning?”
“Oh, I actually went to get you something that might help with your memory.” I stood up after placing the dirty plate on the counter behind me and shuffled over to the bag that held Bucky’s book. I gently took it out and held it close. Making my way back to where he was sitting, I held the book out to him. “Here you go.”
He reached out and took it from me, a small smile ghosted his lips. “The Hobbit, I love this book, thank you.”
“See you’re already remembering.”
“Yeah, I think I remember wanting you to read it and you made me read something else.” He shut his eyes tight, trying to remember. “It was Pride and Prejudice wasn’t it?”
I gave him a giant toothy grin at that. “It was,” I almost shouted. I leaned down to give him a hug, excited he remembered something that was so long ago. “We started reading them the week we got engaged.” I backed away a bit.
“Oh yeah-” He looked to his hands and then to my hand. “Do you- do you still have the ring?”
“Of course I do.” I lifted my hands to the chain that always stayed hidden beneath my shirt. There was a small delicate clank as the ring and locket tapped against each other. I brought the chain over my head and then grabbed one of Bucky’s hands, placing the necklace down gently. I watched as he brought the small treasures closer to his face. He studied them quietly.
“Why don’t you ever wear the ring around your finger?” he asked, I heard a little bit of concern come through.
“I didn’t want to lose it. I kept it hidden for a long time, then when everything happened in January I had a feeling that I should keep it on at all times. With all the fighting that took place, I thought it best to wear it around my neck so I wouldn't fall off.” I explained. I eyed him as he fiddled with the clasp, he was taking the ring off.
He rose to his feet silently before grabbing my left hand to place the ring securely where it was meant to be. “Can you wear it like this from now on?” I looked into his eyes, they were soft. I nodded in response as he stepped a little closer to me.
I could feel my heart start to quicken when he started to lean down, coming to eye level with me. I could feel his cool hand snake up to the back of my neck and pull me forward slightly. I closed my eyes, I could feel the warmth of his breath, we were so close. I leaned myself in more and before I knew it I felt his rough but soft lips graze the corner of my mouth. They were warm and just like I remembered, familiar. I moved my hands to the sides of his face to keep him from moving away. His hands came softly atop mine and pulled them away and down between, but he never let go of them. I felt him move back a tiny bit before I opened my eyes with a small huff. I hadn’t realized how much I missed him, how much I missed the feeling of him. I wanted to feel him kiss me, really kiss me.
He whispered my name softly as one of his hands came up to move a strand of my hair away from my face and then brought the hand back to cradle mine. “I want to take this slow.”
“But-” I started but he cut me off.
“Let me find myself before I come back to you,” The broken sound of his voice hit my ears so softly I probably wouldn’t have been able to hear it if my hearing were normal.
“Okay, Bucky I’ll wait. I’ll wait for you, no matter how long it takes.” He pulled me into a tight hug at that.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
It is now mid-July and Bucky has been steadily remembering more and more. The process has gone faster than I thought it would, but that’s probably because he isn’t alone and trying to figure things out. I’ve noticed that the longer we are here in Romania, the less paranoid he is about being found, although it still eats at the back of both our minds constantly.
Bucky has started to smile more, he’s started to get closer to me, mentality and physically. Something changed after that afternoon he slipped the ring back onto my finger. Sometimes, while we are sitting at home he will slip his hand into mine and leave it there for a while, or he’ll somehow just gravitate to my side like a magnet. I never push him further than he is comfortable with, knowing he is still trying to find his missing pieces.
He works hard, exhaustingly so, to be able to remember. To be the Bucky he once was. Sometimes when he gets frustrated, I have to remind him that he will never be one hundred percent how he was in 1943, but I love him all the same, I’ll stay beside him.
And that's how we came to this precise moment. Bucky was laid out on the floor staring at the ceiling when I walked out of the bathroom from taking my nightly shower.
“What’s the matter?” I questioned as I rang my hair out with the towel. He didn’t say anything, just turned his head to face away from me. “Hey, come on, you can tell me.” I encouraged as I sat down on the edge of my mattress.
“It’s nothing, really.”
“Oh it isn’t nothing, I can see it all over your face. Something is bothering you so tell me what’s up.”
“I don’t know. I’m just so tired. My head is hurting from all the things I’m trying to remember.” He huffed out gruffly. I gave him a sympathetic look before poking him in the side. He turned his body to the side to look at me.
“You do know it’s okay to take a break? You shouldn’t expect yourself to remember every little thing.”
“I know, it's just. There are these glimpses from the past but I can never place them. It’s frustrating.” He says as his hand comes up to softly play with my fingers near his head.
“Well, you can’t try to remember things clearly if you are exhausted. Get some rest and relax, let the memories clear themselves up instead of trying to force them.” I stilled his hand and rubbed the back of it with the one he wasn’t currently grasping. “How about I make us some tea and then we can get some rest?”
“I’d like that a lot.”
“Okay then.” I stood up and his hand slowly let go of mine.
In the kitchen, I grabbed the kettle and filled it with water, and placed it on the eye of the stove. While waiting for the water to boil I washed the dirty mugs in the sink so that way we could use them. The box of teabags was sitting off to the side of the sink, I slipped two from the box and placed them in the now clean, empty mugs. When the water was done I poured it into our cups along with a few scoops of sugar and a tiny bit of milk and then walked back over to where I was sitting earlier.
“Here you go. Be careful, it’s hot and still needs to steep for a bit.” I warned as he sat up to take the mug from my hand. I sat back down and after a minute, started to take small sips of my tea.
“Thank you. Not just for the tea, but for everything you do. I don’t know how I’d get through this if you weren't with me.” He confessed as he took a long sip.
“You don’t have to thank me, Buck-” I started but he cut me off.
“Yes, I do. I wouldn’t have gotten near as far as I have if it weren't for your help. You’re always so loving and patient with me. I don’t deserve it, especially with the things I’ve done.” His head hung low as he drew his knees up closer to him.
I frowned as I sat my mug on the floor and crawled my way across the floor to sit directly in front of him. Carefully I placed both my hands on his. “Nothing you did is your fault.”
“Yes, it is. I did awful things. They are the only thing I can remember vividly. Can’t you see that I'm a bad guy now?”
“Sweetheart you are not a bad guy, you are a victim.” I moved my hand to his face so I could have him look at me. “And yes, you did those things but none of that was under your control. Nothing you did with HYDRA was in your control.” He looked at me with tears welled up in his eyes, he grabbed my hand and pulled it down away from his face but he never let it go. “I want to help you get through this but I can’t do that if you push me away because you think you are a danger to me. I told you before that you could never hurt me, I’m tougher than I look.”
“I don’t doubt that,” He chuckled. “It’s just hard when at any second I could turn back into that thing. It scares me, it scares me so much that I could be the reason I lose you just after I got you back.” His voice sounded like he was trying hard to hold back tears.
I moved from in front of him to his left side. I wrapped my arms around him, making him lean into me. I squeezed him tight. “It’s okay to cry, don’t hold it back,” I whispered into his ear. I felt him shudder and then all of a sudden it was like the flood gates had been opened.
We sat there on the floor for what felt like hours. We had changed into a more comfortable position, where Bucky had his arms wrapped around my middle and he just wept into my shirt. I softly played with his long hair and scratched his scalp. It seemed to calm him, but he still cried. He cried until no more tears would come until all he could do was jolt with hiccups.
We fell asleep like that, huddled together on the hard floor, next to the couch.
Authors note: Hi everybody, I know this chapter is a little shorter than I have been writing but I started my third year at college and I have like three 15 page essays and a crap tone of homework. So please be patient with me with writing for a while.
