History of Hacking
In our world that relies heavily on computers and the internet, the term ‘hacking’ has become quite common. When we hear it, we often think about cyberattacks, data breaches, and the urgent need to protect our online information. But what if we told you that hacking had more innocent beginnings, evolving from playful activities to the complex and sometimes corrupt things we see today? In this report exploration, we understand how hacking has transformed, starting from its harmless beginnings to the serious cybersecurity issue it has become in our modern times.
The Early Days: Innocent Pranks and Telephone Games
The interesting story of hacking begins long before computers were around, back in the late 1800s. During that time, Bell Telephone, one of the first telephone companies, employed a group of young people as telephone operators. Instead of just connecting calls as they were supposed to, these young operators liked to have some fun by disconnecting or sending calls to the wrong places, playing tricks on the people calling. These early activities can be thought of as the starting point of hacking. It's important to note that their intentions were not to do any harm.
Now, let's fast forward to the 1960s and go to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). This is where hacking started to take shape to find smart and quick solutions to make systems work better, rather than to damage them. During this time, hacking was all about being curious and wanting to figure out how systems worked and how to make them work even better.
The Start of Computer Hacking in the 1960s
The word ‘hacker’ didn't originally have anything to do with computers. Back in the 1960s at MIT, students were known as ‘hackers’ because they liked to tinker with things and figure out how they worked. This early use of the word eventually got connected with computers.
In the 1960s, computers were big machines kept in special rooms with controlled temperatures. They were mostly used by expert programmers. But a group of computer fans, often students from places like MIT, had a strong desire to understand how these big machines worked.
To make these computers do things faster, they came up with what they called "hacks" or clever tricks in programming. Sometimes, these hacks worked better than the original programs. One of the most important things that happened in the 1960s was the creation of UNIX, a set of rules for running computers that was open for anyone to use. It was developed by Dennis Ritchie and Ken Thompson.
The 1970s: From Playful Pranks to Serious Business
The 1970s marked a significant shift in the world of hacking. It moved from being all about harmless tricks to becoming something more serious. In 1971, a big change happened when ‘phreaking’ was introduced by John Draper, who was lovingly known as ‘Captain Crunch.’ Draper invented a device called a ‘blue box’, which allowed him to make long-distance phone calls for free. This was the beginning of ‘phreaking’. Unlike modern hacking, which often has bad intentions, this early form of hacking was driven by a desire to learn and explore, not to cause harm.
Abbie Hoffman made ‘phreaking’ even more popular by publishing ‘The Youth International Party Line’ newsletter. This created a sense of community among hackers. In 1978, Randy Seuss and Ward Christiansen established the first personal computer bulletin board system (BBS). This BBS became a virtual meeting place for hackers and enthusiasts, setting the stage for the online communities we have today.
The 1980s: Hacking Comes into the Spotlight
The 1980s brought about significant changes in the world of hacking. The introduction of personal computers, such as IBM's ‘personal computers’, made computing power more accessible to regular people. Popular culture, including the movie ‘War Games’, warned us about the changing digital world. The shift from ARPANET to the Internet showed how important computer networks were becoming, and bulletin board systems became very popular.
However, as computers became more common, hacking activities also increased. Groups like ‘414’ in Milwaukee became famous for breaking into systems at places like Los Alamos Laboratories and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. This time also saw the rise of hacking rivalries, especially between groups called LOD (Legion of Doom) and MOD (Masters of Deception), which led to the famous ‘Great Hacker War’.
During this period, the law began to catch up with hackers. In 1986, the United States introduced the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (CFAA). This law showed that people were becoming more concerned about cybercrimes.
The 1990s: Legal Responses to Hacking
In the 1990s, hacking continued to change. Some well-known hackers like Kevin Mitnick became famous for what they did. In Europe, the Chaos Computer Club started, and they released the first issue of ‘2600: The Hacker Quarterly’.
During this time, there were more cyberattacks happening. In 1999, the Melissa virus caused big problems for businesses all over the world. In the late 1990s, the Stuxnet worm came about, and it's believed that a government might have been behind it, using it to attack Iran's nuclear facilities.
The 2000s: Hacking in the New Millennium
As we entered the 2000s, hacking continued to evolve as a significant threat. Hacking changed from being playful pranks to becoming a serious problem. In 1999, the Melissa Virus, which pretended to be a Word document, caused around $80 million in damages.
In 2000, a teenager known as ‘Mafiaboy’ successfully carried out DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks. These attacks temporarily shut down major websites like CNN, Yahoo, and Amazon. In 2014, the U.S. government blamed Russian hackers for a breach of the White House's security, highlighting the growing trend of state-sponsored cyberattacks. Then, in 2017, the WannaCry ransomware attack affected 200,000 computers in 150 countries, showing how widespread and global cyber threats had become.
The Present and Future: Dealing with Modern Cyber Challenges
At this moment, hacking remains a significant threat. Hackers are using increasingly advanced methods, such as AI-powered social engineering attacks and targeting Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Infiltrating extensive supply chains through smaller vendors, hacktivism intended to disrupt institutions, and state-sponsored attacks are all immediate concerns.
What Does the Future Hold for Hacking?
The path that hacking will take in the future is uncertain, but one thing is very clear: we need strong cybersecurity measures. To deal with the changing threats, people, organizations, and governments must do the following:
Be Cautious of AI-Powered Attacks: Hackers are getting ready to use AI for more convincing and personal social engineering tricks, so we need to be extra careful.
Protect Against Ransomware in the Cloud: As attacks on cloud systems increase, it's important to keep our data safe in the cloud.
Make IoT Systems Secure: With more and more IoT devices around, we must make sure they are safe from hackers.
Make Supply Chains Stronger: We need to stop hackers from taking advantage of weaknesses in supply chains, especially through smaller vendors.
Get Ready for Hacktivism and Attacks by Governments: Activist hackers and attacks sponsored by governments can mess up important systems, so we must be ready.
In conclusion, hacking has come a long way, from being a playful thing to a big global problem for cybersecurity. As technology keeps changing, we must be more serious about keeping things safe online.
To do this, people, organizations, and governments must use strong cybersecurity methods. They also need to keep learning about new threats and work with experts in cybersecurity.

Why Telemedicine is more important?
MedleyMed is a long-term healthcare technology platform that aims to improve healthcare systems and processes. We can assist you in implementing electronic health records and gaining insights into how to streamline operations to improve operational efficiencies.
Few reasons why telehealth is more vital now than ever:
1. It Ensures The Safety of Medical Personnel and Patients.
According to Karen Donelan, a senior scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Mongan Institute, the risk of infection and rising demands on the healthcare system have made telehealth a safe and vital tool. “Primary care and specialized clinicians are utilizing telehealth to replace office visits in as many cases as feasible,” Donelan explains. According to a survey conducted by IT vendor Sykes, more than 60% of patients think the pandemic has increased their readiness to adopt telehealth.
According to Uri Bettesh, founder and CEO of Datos Health, a remote care and telemedicine platform, most early deployments employed videoconferencing, but many now use the Internet of Medical Things devices to monitor patients’ vital signs from a distance.
2. It Permits Radiologists to read from any location.
According to Diagnostic Imaging, such partnerships are becoming more popular to serve rural and international patients. According to a blog post by Dr. Barry Julius, a physician in nuclear medicine at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, N.J., recently quoted in Radiology Business, the pandemic could be a wake-up call for urban hospitals and practices that may have been hesitant to allow radiologists to work remotely.
3. It improves access to Healthcare in senior living communities.
According to McKnight’s Senior Living, telemedicine platform provider can improve convenience, care, and disease management, and reduce hospitalization rates for high-risk seniors in senior home facilities.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) temporarily extended telehealth services to all Medicare beneficiaries in mid-March. Telehealth services for office visits, preventive health screenings, and mental health services are now available to persons living in homes and healthcare facilities outside of rural areas, thanks to the expansion.
“Any growth of telehealth services is a really good thing,” said Kari Olson, chief innovation and technology officer at Front Porch, a senior living company. “Especially now, when we need people to stay at home, and especially to protect people over 65 and other high-risk individuals.” The Reducing Unnecessary Senior Hospitalization Act, a proposed bipartisan measure, would permanently expand telemedicine to cover more Medicare seniors.
4. It aids in the conservation of supplies and bed space
Telehealth has helped some medical systems avoid becoming overburdened by reducing the demand for supplies and hospital beds by retaining low-risk patients at home. It can also assist in the delivery of care. In a roundtable Q&A with HealthTech, Dr. Neal Patel, the organization’s CIO for health IT, said that clinicians can reach hospitalized patients via Zoom and Apple iPad devices “to limit exposure and not use up protective equipment simply for a talk.”
More systems will be benefited: The Federal Communications Commission approved a 200 million telehealth program in early April as part of the 2 trillion coronavirus response bill to assist providers in purchasing telemedicine equipment and devices required to provide telehealth services — a move intended to free up valuable hospital space, according to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai.
5. It aids specialties like cardiology and psychiatry.
The pandemic has compelled experts to enhance telehealth services for vital needs such as cardiovascular care. Telecardiology encompasses virtual home visits, smartphone-based rehab activities, and nurse-assisted consultations at satellite clinics, among other things.
In an interview with TCTMD, an online news site produced by the Cardiovascular Research Foundation, Dr. Andrew Freeman of National Jewish Health in Denver, a member of the American College of Cardiology’s healthcare innovation board, termed it a “gift in a very ugly disguise.”
Meanwhile, stress and anxiety have spurred a significant surge in online counseling.
Don Mordecai, a physician and the organization’s national leader for mental health and wellness, told STAT that the Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente, which owns nearly 40 facilities, is performing more than 90% of its mental health visits remotely. Under normal conditions, such adoption “would have taken years,” he said.
6. It provides care to underserved populations
According to The American Journal of Managed Care, the epidemic has highlighted existing racial, economic, and geographic inequities that might obstruct access to medical treatment. A rapid move to telehealth could help underprivileged individuals with low resources and inadequate connectivity gain access to healthcare.
It is important to care for yourself, to have the best quality of medical guidance when needed. Wrong or nonprofessional guidance can lead to making you choose wrong for yourself. MedleyMed has the best digital care to offer their patients the care they deserve. From the mobile app to manage everything for you, to telemedicine consultation, to in-house pharmacy, to post-consultation interaction module, to flexible and dynamic consulting schedule MedleyMed has everything for you.

Beauford Delaney (December 30, 1901 – March 26, 1979) was an American modernist painter. He is remembered for his work with the Harlem Renaissance in the 1930s and 1940s, as well as his later works in abstract expressionism following his move to Paris in the 1950s. Beauford's younger brother, Joseph, was also a noted painter. Beauford Delaney was born December 30, 1901 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Delaney's parents were prominent and respected members of Knoxville's black community. His father Samuel was both a barber and a Methodist minister. His mother Delia was also prominent in the church, and earned a living taking in laundry and cleaning the houses of prosperous local whites. Delia, born into slavery and never able to read and write herself, transferred a sense of dignity and self-esteem to her children, and preached to them about the injustices of racism and the value of education. Beauford was the eighth of ten children, only four of whom survived into adulthood. He summed up the reasons for this in a journal entry from 1961, saying "so much sickness came from improper places to live – long distances to walk to schools improperly heated… too much work at home – natural conditions common to the poor that take the bright flowers like terrible cold in nature…" Beauford and his younger brother Joseph were both attracted to art from an early age. Some of their earliest drawings were copies of Sunday school cards and pictures from the family bible. "Those early years which Beauford and I enjoyed together I am sure shaped the direction of our lives as artists. We were constantly doing something with our hands – modelling with the very red Tennessee clay, also copying pictures. One distinct difference in Beauford and myself was his multi-talents. Beauford could always strum on a ukulele and sing like mad and could mimic with the best. Beauford and I were complete opposites: me an introvert and Beauford the extrovert." The Delaneys attended Knoxville's Austin High School, and among Beauford's early works was a portrait of Austin High principal Charles Cansler. When he was a teenager, he got a job as a "helper" at the Post Sign Company. However, he and his younger brother Joseph were drawing signs of their own. Then some of his work was noticed by Lloyd Branson, an elderly American Impressionist and Knoxville's best known artist. By the early 1920s, Delaney became the apprentice of Branson. With Branson's encouragement, the 23-year-old Delaney migrated north to Boston to study art. With perseverance, he achieved the artist's education he desired, including informal studies at the Massachusetts Normal School, the South Boston School of Art and the Copley Society. He learned what he called the "essentials" of classical technique. It was also while in Boston that Delaney had his first "intimate experience" with a young man in the Public Garden. Through letters of introduction from Knoxville, he also received what he referred to as a "crash course" in black activist politics and ideas; having associated socially during his years in Boston with some of the most sophisticated and radical African-Americans of the time, such as James Weldon Johnson, writer, diplomat and rights activist; William Monroe Trotter, founder of the National Equal Rights League; and Butler Wilson, Board member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. By 1929, the essentials of his artistic education complete, Beauford decided to leave Boston and head for New York.

What are the reasons why telemedicine is important?
During a worldwide health crisis, virtual care has proven to be a lifesaver. The platform’s rapid expansion could have long-term consequences. Healthcare providers are using telehealth to protect patients and employees as COVID-19 spreads. According to a poll by the Medical Group Management Association, 97% of healthcare leaders have expanded telehealth access since the pandemic.
Some of the reasons for Telemedicine
It Ensures The Safety of Medical Personnel and Patients.
According to Karen Donelan, a senior scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital’s Mongan Institute, the risk of infection and rising demands on the healthcare system have made telehealth a safe and vital tool.“Primary care and specialized clinicians are utilizing telehealth to replace office visits in as many cases as feasible,” Donelan explains.
It Permits Radiologists to read from any location.
It improves access to Healthcare in senior living communities.
According to McKnight’s Senior Living, telemedicine can improve convenience, care, and disease management, and reduce hospitalization rates for high-risk seniors in senior home facilities.
