Buck/Eddie, 1.3k words, GA
Eddie has stepped in to watch Buck so the Buckleys can visit Maddie and Chimney for dinner. However, they were out longer than he expected. When they arrive back to Buck's loft, Christopher and Buck are asleep. Eddie's still up but he's tired.
And a tired Eddie might accidentally reveal something he shouldn't have without realizing it.
He had just finished washing the dishes when he heard the loft’s front door open behind him. Eddie glanced at the clock on the oven. It was half-past eleven. The Buckleys had stayed at Maddie and Chim’s much later than they planned. “Didn’t think you kids were gonna make it home tonight,” he said, twisting the faucet off and drying his hands on a nearby dishtowel.
“We tried leaving early, we did,” Margaret began as she handed Phillip her jacket. “But Sang wouldn’t let us go!”
Phillip took over while she laughed. “It was like every time we’d be about to leave, he’d think of another story and get into it before we could even think of getting up.”
“It wasn’t until Chimney cut him off from the bar that we could get a word in edgewise.” Margaret finished their explanation, walking further into the room. Her fingers ghosted over the now empty dinner table. “I hope we didn’t impose, keeping you here longer than you expected.”
Eddie tried playing mad, but he couldn’t keep the guise on his face. Especially with how Margaret batted her eyelashes at him in such a cartoonish manner. “It’s not the latest we’ve ever been here, so you’re good.” He glanced towards his right, the gummy smile on his face shrinking into a softer version of itself. “Though usually I’m more like them.”
Margaret followed his gaze to where Buck and Christopher were curled around each other on the love seat. It was a recent purchase by the Buckleys. Margaret was insistent on getting him a couch. Buck talked her down to a compromise. The deep green cushions were soft, and it could unfold into an inflatable mattress that Buck had been using during his recovery, his parents using his lofted bed above during their stay.
“They’re an adorable pair,” Margaret whispered to him.
Eddie agreed. “Sucks that I have to wake them.”
           “Do you have to?”
“Chris’s going to a friend’s house early tomorrow morning to work on a science project,” he said, “And I’m sure Buck would rather not sleep in the shape of a question mark the entire night.”
“If you’re that sure…” Margaret joined her husband by the refrigerator. He’d opened it when Eddie wasn’t looking, rummaging around its contents. “Thank you again for watching him.”
           “Anytime.”
Eddie advanced on the sleeping pair quietly, tiptoeing closer and closer until he stood above them. He carefully studied the situation. Christopher and Buck were wrapped tightly together that extracting one without waking the other would be difficult. But Eddie wasn’t deterred by this risk. He considered all possibilities and, ultimately, settled on his strategy.
Unfortunately, it didn’t guarantee one-hundred percent success.
As Eddie coaxed Christopher into some semblance of consciousness, he felt Buck stirring to life beside him. Eddie cursed silently, to himself. His hands stilled, one wrapped along Buck’s wrist and holding it and his arm in the air. Buck slurred Christopher’s name, then Eddie’s. “It’s okay Buck,” Eddie hushed him. “Go back to sleep. We were just leaving.”
Buck blinked at him, shifting. He released Christopher a fraction of an inch. “…Stay?”
“Where? Not like there’s much space in your loft for five people.”
He whined in response to Eddie’s logic, making Eddie giggle and Christopher slowly open his eyes. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Buck. Before my shift. Is that okay with you?”
It worked. Buck used his hand, the one kept aloft by Eddie, to pat his cheek and brush his thumb against his stubble. Eddie melted and wished that he could stay because of it. “Dinner,” Buck decisively mumbled, “You stay for…” Buck slipped back under without finishing his thought. He hadn’t needed to. Eddie promised he’d stay for dinner and then head out to the station.
Eddie helped Christopher stand, fixing his crutches as his son wasn’t quite ready to do so on his own after his nap. “C’mon,” he squeezed Christopher’s shoulders, waiting for him to hold his stare for longer than a few seconds without blinking. “Let’s say bye to the Buckleys, and then we’ll vamoose. Okay?”
           “Okay… dad.”
“Perfect.” Eddie rose and turned to where he thought Margaret and Phillip would be stationed, by the refrigerator. Instead they were by the table, standing, and their focus was already on them. It was like slamming into a brick wall. Twin expressions of curiosity were on both Margaret and Phillip’s faces. It was obvious now where Buck got it from. Eddie had seen it many times, whenever Buck was tasked with answering a riddle or solving a puzzle. It was an appraisal of pieces, mentally putting them together until an answer formed. From what he could guess, a picture was starting to form for them.
A stone depressively sank to the depths of his stomach, puncturing a hole in it and letting acid spill loose and burn him all the way down his legs. The heat from it rose and spread across his chest, his neck, and his face.
His face remained impassive. He wasn’t unfamiliar with tamping down his feelings, whether it be fear, embarrassment, or… other things.
“Say good night to the Buckleys, Chris.” Eddie spurred Christopher forward, using his son as a shield to keep the older couple at bay.
           “Night Buckleys.”
They each bid him good night, Margaret even leaning down to kiss him on his crown. Her gaze never left Eddie’s as she did this.
However, instead of letting Eddie scurry off home like he wanted to, Margaret laid a gentle hand on his shoulder. He jumped and hated that he had done so. “Eddie…” She murmured his name, speaking so softly he had to strain if he wanted to hear her. “Is there something going on with you and…”
Eddie laughed. He was two for two at this, at pretending he hadn’t been caught in such an intimate moment with Buck by his own goddamn parents. It was like being a teenager again, and that had sucked the first time. “Buck’s a… Buck’s a cuddly sleeper.” Eddie cringed as he heard what he said. His tongue was heavy in his mouth, and he fumbled to think of something else to add to his defense. “He’s a goofball and… so he’s a little unfiltered when he’s that tired, and yeah it could look like – it might seem like… but it’s not like that.”
Margaret said nothing. Neither did Phillip. Eddie could see what they thought, based on how they stared at him.
“Um…” He was left with no other choice now. “I really should be getting Chris to bed, now. Night.”
Eddie scooped Christopher into his arms and wrangled him, his crutches, and their jackets out of Buck’s loft. He was lucky that his son was too tired to fight him being lugged around like a sack of potatoes, and that he would definitely not remember Eddie making an ass of himself in front of Buck’s parents.
It’s unlikely they’ll forget what had happened. Eddie will surely remember that short interaction for quite some time, even if he unpacks it in therapy later this week. His therapist knew about his feelings for Buck. He’d come to terms with that, was actually relieved he could share them with someone other than himself.
But now it’s breached containment. The Buckleys knew.
If they were anything like their children, then Eddie was about to be dealing with some serious meddling in the future.
As he buckled Christopher into his truck, Eddie went on a tirade of blame. At them for being there. At Sang for keeping them out late, at Chimney for not stepping in sooner. At Buck for looking and acting so adorable in his half-conscious state that Eddie couldn’t help whatever gooeyness showed on his face. At himself for being so stupidly gooey in front of witnesses.
Most of all, he blamed the loveseat. If it were big enough that he could sit with them, fall asleep with them, he probably wouldn’t have gotten himself into this mess.

Hi, don't know if you're still doing this but:
2 royal + 52 Marriage of Convenience
Eddie and Buck 911
2: Royal Au + 52: Marriage of Convenience
alright i've read like four of these in the past two days so i've been trying to think up something original
personally, i'd tell the story of the buckleys, rulers of some made up country like genovia. the buckley king and queen, phillip and margaret, had three children: daniel, madeline and evan. tragically, their eldest grew sick at a young age, and prince evan was born in an attempt to save his life (although the family would never admit that to the world); evan's spare parts, however, must have been defective, for the young prince daniel died, leaving madeline as the heir to the throne
now, here's the thing about being royal: it sucks. no one tells you it sucks, but it does, and madeline (or maddie, as she prefers) and evan know this first hand, especially as maddie grows older and has to start looking for a husband
in walks doug kendall, a neurosurgeon, and by god does the country love him
so much so that evan, once old enough, decides to start travelling, start going around the world, because it's not like he'll be missed, right? he may be the country's beloved prince evan (the brightest smile and biggest heart of any royal they've ever known) - but he's not needed for day-to-day things
so he travels, and when he does, he does it in disguise. no guards, no royal escorts, no private planes. he even goes by buck, because its easier that way - and its not like genovia is a big country, so its not like he's going to get recognised
he's on a tour of the united states when he reaches el paso, texas, where a young eddie diaz, recently abandoned and divorced by his wife, and father to a four-year-old christopher, are struggling to make end's meet
one of eddie's three jobs is as a bartender at the bar that buck wanders into
and by god can they not stop staring at each other
i mean, a hot bartender with just the right amount of stubble who holds himself with innate confidence
and a hot patron with a birthmark above his left eye and an open smile like sunshine is just flooding out of him?
they get to talking real quick
and although buck doesn't mention being a prince, he stays at the bar long enough to hear all about eddie's life and current troubles (isn't the patron supposed to vent to the bartender? buck asks. hey i listen to people vent all the time, eddie replies, it's rightfully my turn)
and well, buck has an idea - a dumb idea, because he's a bit drunk, but an idea all the same
we should get married, buck says
what
buck shrugs. if i'm hearing you right, you just got divorced, your parents are threatening to take away your child - aka the light of your life - and you need insurance and money. if we get married, you're no longer a single dad working three jobs with no insurance - i dunno man sounds like a good idea to me
and eddie's not usually one to do stupid, reckless things, and he fully expects this to backfire in a ridiculous way, but goddammit - he's twenty six, he's allowed to do dumb shit occasionally, and buck is something he definitely wants to do
it takes a few weeks (they both think the other will back out, but neither does) and buck has to get a lot of things sorted privately and quietly, especially in regards to marriage licenses and visas, but idk he's a prince he can fast track that shit, but then the two of them are getting married at a court house, with just christopher and eddie's sisters to witness
(eddie hears buck's name as evan buckley for the first time on the day they get married; he does not recognise it in the slightest. he doesn't care about royals.)
(in those few weeks, eddie is blown away (and a little in love) with how good buck is with chris; there are several near-misses with either of them shirtless, fresh from the shower, or dressed up in a suit; and at least nine moments where they almost kissed but didn't and thought the other didn't want to)
helena and ramon, by the way, are pissed
eddie is thrilled
and everything's great - buck moves into eddie's house, ending his tour of america then and there in el paso; signs lots of documents and makes lots of phone calls; listens to eddie talk about the idea of moving to LA, of being a firefighter, of doing something he's proud of
and after one night when buck carries christopher to bed and tucks him in, eddie watching from the doorway, they return to the living room for eddie to immediately kiss him
buck kisses back, of course
its the next day that the news drops: prince evan buckley of genovia has secretly married a single father in texas
eddie finds out through the newspaper. he looks between it, then buck, then it, and says: what
and buck goes for a smile and says, surprise?
eddie's annoyed for like a minute and a half, but buck is too delightful and charming to be mad at for long.
buck's parents, on the other hand - boy can they hold a grudge
the story ends like this: buck and eddie travel to genovia with christopher; they introduce him around the family, around the country, and genovia is still surprised, but ultimately endeared by the family prince evan has made for himself, unaware that it was built on a dumb, drunk idea.
(what happens when they find out? eddie asks quietly, one night. why would they find out? buck replies. we're married, eddie, and not to be embarrassing - but i've got a massive crush on you, so i'm happy to see where this takes us)
in the epilogue, buck denounces his claim to the throne to move to the usa, LA specifically, and live with christopher and eddie there. maddie follows not long after, publicly divorcing her abusive husband and needing some time away. she eventually goes back, because being a royal may suck, but she's still instilled with a sense of duty towards her people - however, when she returns, many years later, upon her parents' abdication so that she may take the throne, she brings her husband, chimney, and their daughter, jee-yun with her
by that point, of course, eddie and buck are very happy, very in love, and are no longer married out of convenience, but joy
Send me two (2) tropes from this list + a ship and I’ll describe how I’d combine them in the same story.

Got tagged by the lovely @crystallinee-waters  for answering 17 questions and tagging 17 people to get to know better. Thank you so much!
(Also I would’ve done this sooner but I completely forgot about it until now yayyyy my memory sucks)
1. Nickname: Em
2. Zodiac: Gemini
3. Height: 5′11
4. Dream Job: Screenplay Writer/Director
5. Top 5 Favorite Shows: Psych, The Addams Family, Queer Eye, Nailed It, The Act
6. Hobbies: Writing, singing, video gaming (mainly Sims games or interactive story-based games), reading, watching movies
7. Favorite Drink: Hot chocolate, fruit punch, different types of tea (green, dragonfruit, etc.)
8. Bad Habits: Oversharing and overexplaining and just not being able to talk like a normal human being by any means possible.
9. Likes: Pairings with some measure of darkness and conflict, pairings that are cute and fluffy, dogs, all the dogs, bunnies, being trapped under piles and piles of blankets, having any excuse to talk about my WIPs, horror movies, and musical theatre.
10. Top Ten Favorite Characters: Carrie White (Carrie), Harley Quinn, Christine Daae (PoTO), Anne Shirley (Anne of Green Gables), Credence Barebone (FBaWTFT), Connor (D:BH), Richie Tozier (IT), Josh Washington (UD), Belle (BatB),
11. Tattoos: Nope, don’t have any. Would love to get a small one someday if I ever overcome my fear of needles.
12. Five Emojis To Describe Me:  😍🤩😏😑😜
13. One Thing I Hate: The “holier than thou” attitude that most fandoms seem to have these days. I fail to see what joy they get out of constantly bullying people for what they like and it’s just so draining to have to see that kind of crap nearly everywhere I go.
14. Quotes:
“She did not know if her gift came from the lord of light or of darkness, and now, finally finding that she didn't care which, she was overcome with almost indescribable relief, as if a huge weight, long carried, had slipped from her shoulders.”
― Stephen King, Carrie
15. Hair color: Dark brown
16. Favorite color: Red
17. Random facts:
- I love the Carrie musical an ungodly amount. Like, I’ll tell you Phantom of the Opera is my favorite but in all reality, it’s actually tied with Carrie. Don’t get me wrong, the OG musical from the 80s is a hot hot mess, but the revival more than makes up for that. The songs are legitimately good, and it also adapts the source material surprisingly well. Plus I like how unlike any of the movie adaptations, there was an earnest attempt at trying to flesh Margaret out beyond the “crazy religious mother” stereotype. She has, in my opinion, some of the best damn songs in the whole musical, and while I did speak ill of the 80s production, Betty Buckley absolutely owns the whole thing with her portrayal.
- I used to wanna be an actor, but then anxiety and general awkwardness fucked up any chances of that happening. It’s still something I’d love to pursue as a hobby, though, especially voice acting.
- I’m taking an American History Cinema Class right now and had to suffer sit through four weeks of western movies. Four. Weeks. It was tiresome and I’m so glad we’re done with that section.
