becoming illithid is v sad tbh, the more brains you consume, the more memories and basically personalities you assimilate. the more there are of them, the less there is left of You. in the end, you're just a soulless husk driven entirely by endless avarice for knowledge and you lose any and all capability for empathy and sympathy, and love. if you don't eat brains, you die. Gale might be accepting of tentacles but it's going to end very tragically one way or another. there are literally no good options there.
lmao, whaaat?
first of all, none of this is explicitly canon, it's all your own interpretation at best. I don't know where you got the idea that the memories of people you've consumed would erase the original self. I mean, BG3 is the first D&D canon source to show us illithid characters with complete "partialism" such that they've retained their previous memories/identity, so we don't have any evidence as to how this whole thing works other than what the game tells us! and that includes moments where the narrator, if you go tav-flayer, wonders whether you'll be too tempted to become a monster, OR if you'll be able to resist your urges and stay as a "renegade" with your own identity. It explicitly says the latter is POSSIBLE. (I actually think this is an interesting lore conversation and I wouldn't mind debating it if it was done in good faith, off anon and with someone bringing citations)
But more importantly this is just... a very rude and condescending ask to send someone over their innocuous fluffy fanart of their OWN PERSONAL CHARACTER and headcanon? Hello??? Why does it bother you so much that someone looked at a happy Gale romance ending that the game LETS YOU HAVE and didn't want it to secretly be a bitter tragedy? Even if it wasn't that canon compliant (tho I firmly think it's perfectly fine), why are you coming at me with this (and over art that I clearly spent hours on). what response did you expect? It's not like I'm going to say, ohhh no I'm so sorry I didn't know that and I will change my Tav's storyline at once to make it end in tragedy. let me have fun.
