I for one support the inclusion of homophobia and leaving it to the end.
Fundamentally, one thing that has been inherently true about this show is that it sticks to realism a lot more frequently than other shows. Tinn has his romcom fantasies derived from Bad Buddy watches, but his reality is yelling at his crush because he's not grasping math concepts, and getting kicked out of the kitchen cause he's not chopping vegetables correctly. And to exclude homophobia entirely just doesn't really make sense to me in that regard because society is not yet absent of homophobia. It is realistic that once they are open about their relationship that they may face homophobia, and it is realistic that they do actually experience it. And whoever made that post earlier about how this homophobia is also a lot more real, you're right, it's more insidious than just having an off-handed comment "wow i can't believe the captain of the swim team is gay" (between us) or just throwing around a slur "I know your year's head student is a faggot" (the eclipse). both of these are also examples of casual homophobia, but the way the teacher switched between joking with a coworker, then genuinely seeming sorry because he was caught, to just absolutely tearing in to these kids because they did not seem to find his gay-rockstar jokes funny. It's very well done.
I support shunting the homophobia off until the last episode, for the points listed above regarding having a comparison point for progression, and in a deeper vein in that same subject, for the fact that adults are not really present in most of the story. It's a bunch of queer friends hanging out with each other all the time. So of course there wouldn't be homophobia when they are all together and focused on relationships (which they as a group aren't usually focused on relationships anyway). When you do have the relationship pieces of the first eleven episode the majority of the time it's Gun and Tinn interacting, or Tinn and Tiwson brainstorming ideas. So of course you aren't going to see homophobia for most of the show. When the majority of my friends, and especially my closest friends and I are all queer, I can go very long stretches of time without experiencing homophobia. Because all the students in the show are existing in their own world. They are so hyper focused on their own problems that the tension is "I just want him to be my boyfriend" and "we need to win Hot Wave". And, no one is public about their relationships school-wide until episode 12 really any way. So why would we have homophobia scattered thoroughout the show?
In addition, it is a great way for Tinn's mother to face her biggest fear about having a queer child. At no point in the story is she explicitly homophobic and her concerns around Tinn and Gun are not "oh no I have a gay son!" they are literally shown to be "what if people are cruel to him?" and she gets her answer almost immediately. That teacher was cruel, crueler to Gun than to Tinn, sure, but bringing his mother in to it, trying to hold her position over his head like him being in a same sex relationship is undeniable horrible. And what does she learn? Kajorn decked that homophobe right in the face. Tinn would have done it himself if Kajorn didn't intervene, and even she is perfectly capable of standing up to people in the face of homophobia against her child. What she learned is that Tinn can fight for himself, that he has a lot of people in his corner, and that she is also able to rise to the challenge of fighting for her son as well. It is incredibly important, in my opinion of course, that we do get to see some homophobia. And especially that we see that the older generation is having the harder time with it, and double especially because I really love the statement the show makes by having all of the comments/texts that Tinn's mom is receiving after the second picture of Tinn and Gun is distributed be homophobic ones and all of the comments that Tinn and Gun saw be positive, supportive ones.
And crucially, the homophobia is still a very minor part of the story, it exists essentially in the span of a single day. And it has a quick and extremely satisfying resolution both with Kajorn punching that teacher in the face, and with how quickly these teenage boys are able to shift from being upset and pissed off to being happy and excited. Gun starts that whole homophobia sequence very withdrawn and contemplative about the public outing, then he's hurt and betrayed by what the teacher said, then he's crying, and then he's pissed, and he's pissed again in the office, but when he leaves the principal's office he is beaming and practically bouncing up and down and back to his normal ball of sunshine, bundle of energy. Something that I think is also good for Tinn's mother to see, is that ability to bounce back from moments like this.
Anyway, those are my thoughts. I completely understand the desire to watch shows where homophobia doesn't exist, it's a wonderful escapist fantasy, and it can bring so much comfort to just be able to focus on a story without having to experience second-hand homophobia. I love those stories too. But My School President while being more of a musical genre, and a romcom, with absurd moments like Tinn hallucinating Gun to gain courage, etc has never pretended to not bring realism to the table as well.
It's easy to complain about how MSP left any address toward homophobia to the last episode and it remained fairly mild but I really wanted to point out what things about it were incredibly significant.
They could have kept it like Bad Buddy where it was a universe where it didn't really exist or just wasn't mentioned. They could have totally done that. I wouldn't have blamed them for that choice either, considering the tone of the series remaining so lighthearted throughout. Homophobia is more than just a serious issue - it can have dangerous implications. The closest this show wanted to get with danger was Gun's mom needing surgery, so before watching the episode I was really curious about how they would handle it.
Starting from the beginning of the episode and seeing the contrast between Gun telling his mom about Tinn, and Tinn's mom seeing how scared her son is and deciding not to ask. Gun has such a wonderful relationship with his mother. She's all he has for family and they have come to love and depend on each other so much, and the show has given us enough clues to the way she thinks that her supporting her son without issue was no surprise. Tinn's mother has been set up to appear that she feels differently, but it all boils down to her worrying for him rather than about him. Tinn gets his supportive, protective way of loving from her (which is the sweetest thing to me, considering their relationship isn't as strong). All she wants is for him to go through life without having to jump over hurdles for his happiness. Considering the privileges he's had as her son, it troubles her that he felt any reason to hide his true relationship with Gun and only wants to assure him that he could have come to her about it earlier. She sees his fear and rightly decides to let him come forward when he chooses.
The deal with the photo outing them and how all that goes down was interesting. It goes without saying, whoever took the picture had no business posting about them and it's unfortunate they never get found and reprimanded for their actions. What I loved was how the show chose to demonstrate how attitudes have really changed among younger generations. The whole conversations about "no one cares!" and "I think we were too afraid in the beginning," were really great points to make. The more exposure the younger generations have had to queer identities through media and people being open about them in real life, the more freedoms we have gained. Sometimes letting fear hold you back can suffocate you. Being outed is awful, but showing that you can not be a jackass about it is important. Also, don't go after my boy Gun for trying to give them a cover story, because this was the one circumstance where he saw Tinn being more at risk than him and he acted the way he thought Tinn would for him. It ended up not really mattering anyway, because people supported them and Tinn understood that's what Gun was trying to do.
And then we got the few bad opinions from the older generation. From a teacher they had all previously respected! Because unfortunately, disappointingly, that is so incredibly common. Even his way of trying to explain "oh I don't actually hate you guys I just don't take you seriously," was so important to include. Homophobes will try to twist their ideas into something that's less than the hateful bullshit it is and out themselves being as reductive as they truly are. Of course, it got escalated for the sake of run time and getting the issue dealt with immediately. Thank you Kajorn for having a pretty awesome come to jesus gay moment.
Finally, my favorite part!! Tinn's mom not only making it clear she's okay with his relationship but explaining just how offensive his teacher had actually been. I really thought her position as the school principal would remain as a wedge between her and Tinn because it was treated that way for so long. I didn't expect it to have any more use than that. But having an authority figure of a school openly call out their colleague and show support for her students meant so much to me! Reminder: this story sets out to say that teen's experiences are not trivial and they're people with hopes and dreams and struggles and have much less say in their daily lives. Adults stepping up and supporting children is so necessary. Adults stepping up and protecting queer children is a desperate need. Any other school principal doing less than that is unworthy of their job. And it goes without saying that being his mother and being so openly supportive before he's even had a chance to ask her is just the cherry on top.
The homophobia arc wasn't for everyone but it had intent and purpose and it executed it just right for me. It said "yeah we know it's there but it's horseshit tbh so we're having our boys sing to each other on stage knowing the most important people in their lives have their back." And then they got to say "I love you" and share their first kiss in the privacy they deserved.

One of my favorite things about My School President was how they portrayed Photjanee's relationship to Tinn’s coming out journey. Specially because I really appreciate the fact that Photjanee was able to voice her concerns about Tinn possibly being gay and what that entails without ever putting that on Tinn. There was never a moment in the show that I ever thought that she’d be homophobic, I thought at worst she would be like Pran’s Mom “you can date anyone just not Gun,” but she wasn’t. She was only ever scared that he would be hurt. When I came out to my mom about my gender identity she voiced all her concerns about “that non-binary path” to me because she had no one else to turn to about it. A lot of her initial sentiments were very similar to Photjanee’s concerns. That life would be harder for me, that it would be dangerous, that people wouldn’t understand. And it’s like…these are things I already knew. You know? I absolutely did not need reminders about that from someone who needed to have non-binary be defined for her. And no matter how many times my mother repeated to me that she loved me, it was very difficult to feel that that was true because the only thing i could think about what the fact that her initial reaction after essentially forcing me to come out was to voice her concerns for if I did continue to identify as non-binary.
What I absolutely love about how My School President wrote Tinn’s Mom is two fold, the first is that she feels so…real? And the second is that the writers are kind and merciful and don’t let Tinn’s mother be the one to cause him any psychological distress by forcing him to talk about his sexuality before he’s ready or by repeating her concerns to him, when he will always know better than her what the reality of being queer is. (Do they still fuck him over with a very public outing? Yes. But I'm specifically focusing on the way the writers cultivated and cared for the parents relationships in this show, because all of them are strong, loving, and supportive).
And yeah I love when BLs are escapist fantasies without homophobia, without coming out scenes, where it’s fully normalized and literally everyone is gay and what not. But I also really appreciated how realistic so much of My School President is, and how realistic Tinn's experience with his mother is in terms of gauging whether or not she is a safe person to come out to.
And that is never more clear than in Episode 9, when Photjanee asks Tinn if he wants to go on the beach trip because he has a crush on someone:
"Wait. Are you having a crush on someone?" don't know if it translates the same in Thai, but from an English translation standpoint this is a gender neutral term. So she's starting off correctly, with no explicit assumptions of Tinn's sexuality or who he might have a crush on. "Tinn, you can tell me, you totally can. I won't stop you. You're grown up.
"Really?" Tinn asks. Okay, he's had a crush on Gun for two years, and it looks like Gun is interested in him back and they've finally entered a talking phase, they are seeing each other. It's literally Tinn's dream come true, and we know that Whole Body Simp is so excited about it, and we know that Tinn and his mother are close, that they love each other and trust each other a lot. Now might be the perfect time to tell her. But she doesn't really like the Music Club and that could be awkward, she might not like that he's interested in Gun. But he's really really thinking about telling her here.
And he's searching for the right words, and he's just about to tell her, when...
"Is it Jaa, the council's treasurer? I think she handles work very well,"
Cut to Tinn's face, falling, with the sound effect is akin to a shattering gong playing over tip. His mother has now assigned a gender to his crush. She is assuming that he likes women.
"And the other girl, what's her name, Idea?" Second reference to another potential crush, also a girl. She is assuming that he is straight. I love that the writers added a second girl in here for his mother to name because I think that builds far more of a story of her heternormative world view than just one person. Because by listing two Photjanee has an opportunity to change the gender of Tinn's potential crush for the second person. She could have been like "oh, or do you like Kajorn? He seems really nice," and that would give Tinn indication that she would be comfortable with the idea of him being queer, whether or not he actually is. But she doesn't. And God do I recognize the look on Tinn's face afterwards.
The is the face of a queer kid realizing that his mother assumes completely that he is straight, and it is moments like these ones, that often (in my experience) have served as litmus tests for me about whether or not I could trust my parents to come out to. My grandmother only ever asks me if I've met any cute boys. My father pauses for a little too long when I tell him a friend uses they/them pronouns. My mother shifts her weight when I talk about fictional queer people on television. Are any of these major, obvious, red flags that my family wouldn't be cool with me being queer? Absolutely not. Did it stop me from coming out to my family right away? Absolutely.
And are even these small moments pretty good indicators about my family's potential reactions? Honestly, yes. In my entire life I have never heard my mother say anything blatantly homophobic, but she's asked me plenty of questions that speak to her overall ignorance of the queer community, because she's not a part of it, and because almost all of her friends are not a part of it. Did I know with absolute certainty that she would never disown me or throw me out of the house if she knew my sexuality or gender identity. Yes. Do I think she still loves me the same? Yes. Did she fundamentally alter our relationship when she implied that I became non-binary to fit in with a new crowd? Yes. Or, when she told me that my life would be harder and that she was scared for me? Yes.
This got more personally than it needed to, so apologies for that, I just...I don't know, In Praise of Complexity indeed. Photjanee's personal struggle with her son's sexuality was handled incredibly well. The concerns she voiced are concerns she should be allowed to feel, and they are very very real concerns people have. And they could have so easily had her force that worry on to her son, making him have to comfort her about it, like I had to, but they didn't. They let Photjanee see how scared Tinn was when she sat him down in Episode 12 to ask him about Gun. Like, shout out to Gemini because he looks so scared the entire time.
Side Note: I love that they keep cutting back to Tinn's hands because he is trying so hard to hide his fear, but he keeps pick at his fingernails because he can't contain how terrified he is.
Like he's flinching here. And they allow Photjanee to be emotionally tuned in to her child. As she should be, because she loves him deeply and spends quite a lot of time with him.
I love this little moment too cause she's looking at his hands, and that's what makes her stop. Cause she realizes how stressed out, and scared her son is about having to have the conversation he thinks (correctly) is coming.
And she swerves, she realizes that this is not the right way to go about having this conversation with Tinn, and I think she resolves to completely wait it out. To fully let him come to her, like Gun's Mom did.
Anyway, this turned out so much longer of a write up than I anticipated. Ultimately, I just came here to just agree with @liyazaki. My School President did a phenomenal job handling the third type of parent in a BL and I am so appreciative to everyone involved in writing and portraying Photjanee that they were able to pull it off so successfully.
in praise of complexity
it's way easier to write two types of parents of queer kids: the 100% accepting parents, and the in-your-face homophobic variety.
I've had my fingers crossed that My School President would opt for the third, more complicated kind. this show has been too nuanced and well-done for me to hop on any "Tinn's mom is probably the devil" bandwagon, anyway. in the end, they not only went the more complex route- they delivered in a big way.
when we first met Photjanee, she seemed like the stereotypical strict drama parent with sky-high expectations, thanks at least in part to her job.
we were slowly given insights into her and Tinn's relationship, and we got to see the affection and deep care they have for each other. it was heartwarming to watch, and establishing how loving their relationship was was essential to the conflict that came next.
in a little stroke of writing genius, most of Photjanee's struggle with Tinn and Gun's relationship- and with what that relationship meant for her son- were almost exclusively intended for our eyes only.
they gave us an unusually large amount of Photjanee-focused scenes (more than a few only had Tao in them), showcasing her growing suspicions and internal struggle. when she briefly interacted with someone else in these scenes- Tinn's dad, Gun's mom, Kajorn- the focus always remained on her and ended with her.
the writers easily could've given Photjanee expository dialogue during these moments- i.e. "I'm just struggling so much with xyz"- but for the most part, they didn't. they mostly opted for "show, don't tell"- another unusual but stellar move, especially for GMMTV fare.
Tao Sarocha took us on Photjanee's journey with mainly facial expressions, tone of voice, pauses and where her gaze lingered. we didn't need to be told this was a mother who loved her child dearly, while simultaneously struggling with revelations about who he is. we could see it for ourselves.
Photjanee wants Tinn to be happy and free, but she's afraid for him. she doesn't want him to feel rejected, but she doesn't know how (at first) to reconcile herself to a future she never imagined for him.
she didn't start as an open-arms ally, nor was she a bigot. she's an adoring, terrified mom adapting to change as best as she can. not a moment of her journey was rushed- these things can take time (sometimes a lot of it), and the writers gave that to her...to us.
Photjanee wasn't perfect- she was real (she sure as hell felt like it, anyway). and it made the beautiful, beautiful ending all the more meaningful.

Hypermobility screening tool
If you're looking into a hypermobility diagnosis, and you don't score high on the Beighton Scale, or just want more backing for yourself when you approach your doctor, this assessment came out in 2022.
It takes into account the multisystem issues that people with hypermobility disorders often experience.
The screening tool (page 7-8 on the pdf) is meant for clinicians who *aren't* familiar with hypermobility disorders like EDS.
It mentions it was developed on/for performing arts people, but it applies more broadly than that.
I highly recommend reading the paper (it's short) to see why and how they created this screening tool.
Unfortunately this screening tool isn't getting much chatter, I only heard about it because I follow a bunch of circus PTs, and they've been trying to get word out.

Enhanced NH90 Helicopter Fleet Bolsters Spain Armed Forces Capabilities
With more than 10,000 flight hours under its belt, the NH90 has provided the Spanish Army and Air Force with new capabilities, fleet rationalisation and safety improvements. The deliveries of the second batch beginning in 2024 will also equip the Navy with the most modern amphibious helicopter ever operated in Spain. Spain’s close relationship with the NH90 began in 2006, when the Spanish Ministry of Defence purchased its first batch of NH90s. A total of 15 helicopters were ordered for the Spanish Army and six for the Spanish Air Force, all of which have now been delivered. With the aim of continuing to renew its tactical helicopters, in 2018 Spain gave the green light for a second batch of 23 NH90s. On this occasion, it also included the development and production of seven naval MSPT (Maritime Spanish Tactical Transport Helicopter) variants to equip the Spanish Navy with multi-purpose tactical transport helicopters capable of operating in low visibility or adverse weather conditions and at night. It is also fitted to perform combat search and rescue (CSAR), medical evacuation and logistic transport missions if required. The first MSPT will begin the customisation phase in Spain in accordance with the requirements of the Ministry of Defence (DGAM) in the coming weeks.
