#steve earle#workplace safety#it is the fifteenth anniversary of the upper big branch mine disaster this year. april 5. 29 workers were killed in an explosion#caused by deliberate & malicious negligence on the part of massey energy. insufficient ventilation kills slow#but sometimes it kills fast. and it's only more dangerous now to be a miner than it was. it's worse! massive NIOSH layoffs!#MSHA has been flat-funded & lost a huge amount of its staff to the 'fork in the road': those offices are closed. it's about blood#not to give too much credence to government safety infrastructure! all those surveillance programs were rife with fraud#massey wasn't an outlier. union density dropped & with it the only real checks on mine operator greed.#in memoriam#Bandcamp
