The future of TWICE, MISAMO, and SANA

Last year, SANA started activities with the unit "MISAMO" from TWICE and further expanded her field of activities. Now in her ninth year of career, she talks about why she continues to take on new challenges.

In 2023, SANA formed "MISAMO" with members MINA and MOMO and released the JAPAN 1st MINI ALBUM "Masterpiece", which has an elegant mood that is different from when she was a group. At the end of the year, she performed on the 74th NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen. She says that this activity gave her an opportunity to look back on her time as a trainee before debuting as TWICE.

``Before our debut, the three of us in MISAMO were often together. Also, the atmosphere of the performances we practiced at that time was somehow similar to the concept of MISAMO this time! That's also why we made the mini album. During the preparation period, the three of us often talked about memories from those days. We talked about the difficult lessons we had, and how we secretly ate delicious food at the dormitory (lol). Of course, we talked a lot about expressions that only the three of us could use."

At the showcase event held just before the release of the resulting work, she revealed "I was so nervous that I thought,What have I been doing for the past eight years?''''

``I was used to standing on stage with nine members, so suddenly being reduced to one third made me realize how much I relied on the members, and I realized once again how much I depended on the members. I was able to confirm this.”

In recent years, SANA has continued to expand her range of activities as a solo artist, serving as an ambassador for numerous brands.

``When I'm in a group or unit, I don't focus on showing 100% of my individuality, but rather on finding a balance. For example, when I pose, I look to the left and right to make sure I'm not overlapping with the other members. I express myself while reading the atmosphere, but when I'm working alone, I try to show all of myself. The most impressive thing about last year's activities was the inauguration press conference for the brand ambassador! I was worried about whether I could speak properly every time. So, I was really nervous (lol). However, I can learn a lot from the opportunity to speak on my own, and I feel a great sense of accomplishment when I'm done. If I get more opportunities like this in the future, I'll definitely try my best. I want to prepare and do my best!”
