Still here, despite everything

Happy 23rd anniversary to the Ace Attorney series! Originally this was supposed to be an "animation" where the background characters fade one by one (in chronological order) while maya/pearl channels mia as a way represent the game's timeline and events but it turned out... really bad. It didn't even make sense.

The vision was there but the excecution was not T_T I'll try not to take this loss too personally. Onto the next drawing !

out of all the insanity of the ace attorney series, I think that we don't talk enough about how absurd it is that Misty Fey's life and reputation were ruined (leading to several of her family members and eventually her own murders) because the guy she accused was found not guilty by reason of insanity. that means. they decided the guy did it. everyone agreed she found the right guy and they decided the circumstances meant that he shouldn't be held accountable for his actions but. it was. it was the right guy. and she was driven into hiding for that

does this make more sense in the original or is it just really dissonant cultural values?? because. come on.

Sometimes I remember that Misty, Iris and Godot canonically were working together for what was probably a decent time for the “stop Dahlia from fucking everything up” plan (at least long enough that they trusted each other to share blame for an actual murder). And I can’t help but wonder - what was the dynamic there?

Diego - loves Mia, probably knows the Fey family via her venting and is therefore highly critical of the whole thing, hates Dahlia, hates Phoenix

Iris - loves Phoenix, loves Dahlia deep down but also recognises that she has to be stopped, was adopted by a very distant Fey branch so probably is sympathetic to them but doesn’t know a lot about the main family politics, has never met Mia

Misty - loves Mia, highly knowledgeable about Fey family politics, knows Dahlia mostly as her terrible sister's abandoned kid, has no idea who this Phoenix guy the other two keep arguing about is

Of course the end to all this is that Misty finally meets Phoenix, who is just a kind of average looking dude with weird hair and is like... “this is the guy? This is the guy you’ve been arguing about for the last two months?”

one thing about ace attorney is it's incredibly adept at doomed siblingism. mia and maya. edgeworth and franziska. lana and ema. iris and dahlia (and valerie). misty and morgan. ini and mimi. apollo and trucy. klavier and kristoph. the list is long and each one is utterly gut-wrenching
