JUST MARRIED, EDDIE DIAZ X FEM!READER
APART OF THE 'ROLLING UP THE WELCOME MAT' SERIES
SUMMARY: after leaving LA, y/n flies to nashville, reflecting on her marriage with eddie, staring at the pictures of the two on their wedding day, wondering how they went from love, to just married.
inspired by just married by kelsea ballerini
previous chapter, | next chapter,
lowercase intentional! wc: 1.07k
warning: mentions of sex (no smut), divorce, swearing, marriage problems, brief alcohol mention.
a/n: THIS IS SO SHORT I AM SO SORRY BUUUT! i am so excited about this series, and im SO SO SO excited to write the next chapter !!!
“SO YOU AND EDDIE ARE GETTING A DIVORCE BECAUSE HE WAS COMING HOME LATE?”
“i’m sure that there was a good reason for the fact that he was coming home late. there has to be.”buck tried to reason with the girl, and she shook her head slightly as she fixed the glasses that were on top of her head, “you two could’ve worked that out!”
“it was more than that buck.”she whispered, trying everything she could not to cry, “there was more than just that buck, we haven’t been on the same page for years.”
“y/n, you and eddie are the only thing that makes sense in my life. if the two of you break up, nothing in this world makes sense.”buck stressed, and y/n stood in front of him, with her hands shaking.
“buck the only reason i’m in LA is to sign the divorce papers. our marriage started to fall apart years ago.”she tried to tell him, but buck couldn’t accept it, “it started 10 months after we got married.”
—
(ONE MONTH BEFORE.)
“I WROTE A NEW SONG.”
y/n announced as she sat down with her producer brynn, who gave the girl a look as the h/c girl sat on the floor of the studio, “i was looking at the old wedding pictures i had up in the apartment last night and started writing.”
“what’s the lyrics?”brynn questioned, before y/n pulled out her phone, and opened up her notes app, grabbing the lyrics.
“i don’t think i lied when i said i wanted that life.”she started, tapping her fingers against the ground, with her wedding band still in plain view, “maybe i was too young to understand what i wanted at all.”
“but baby it was true, with all that i knew, it felt like forever that december two.”she went on, not daring to glance up, knowing her bloodshot eyes would give away everything, “a fairytale start, with us crossing our hearts, we rode off in a car that said “just married.””
she stopped herself after the first verse, before clearing her throat and pushing her beanie down on her head more, “the rest of the lyrics are a bit rough and have to be cleaned up if we’re able to do that today.”
“yeah of course.”brynn nodded, before grabbing out a notebook and a pen, helping the girl fix up the lyrics, before they had quickly moved onto creating a sound, one that reminded the h/c girl of a wedding song.
“i don’t know what i’m supposed to do with my wedding dress now.”y/n’s voice rasped as they took a little break, and brynn looked at the girl with such sadness in her eyes, knowing exactly what the girl was going through.
“if you do anything with this song, either releasing it as a single or even have a music video for it, wear your dress in it.”brynn suggested, and the singer shrugged, picking at the rug of the studio floor, “it’s a gorgeous dress, and you can create better memories with it.”
“i feel bad about wanting out knowing chris is going to get caught in the middle of all of this.”she whispered, feeling tears threatening to spill as she thought about the boy who she adored, “i just couldn’t stay there any longer. i couldn’t continue killing myself over a marriage that was one-sided.”
“and you shouldn’t have to.”brynn reassured the girl, grabbing her hand and giving it a comforting squeeze, “in this instance, you have to put yourself first, and if leaving is the solution, then so be it.”
“chris will forgive you.”brynn told her, causing y/n to look up at her, “i’ve met the kid. he will forgive you.”
after a bit, y/n got up wordlessly and walked into the studio with the notebook, giving it one shot to sing the entire song without crying, which is something she hadn’t been able to do yet. once she got through the first part of the song, she looked up at brynn who gave her a reassuring smile.
“long distance text, make-up-for-time sex, tired of asking when i’ll see you next.”she sang, with flashes of memories from when she would constantly text eddie, asking when she would be able to see him next, the endless booked flights that he constantly missed to go and see her, “i’m too mad to fight, so i’ll stare and cry at the picture of you, and me wearing white.”
“just married.”
“but i wasn’t made for fixing a plate, and keeping our problems buried.”she went on, feeling her heart shatter into a million pieces, just like a plate would after it had been dropped onto the ground, “no i wasn’t strong enough to hold on, with all of the weight i carried.”
“yeah it was love, then it was just married.”
flashes of her wedding went through her mind, with the vivid taste of veuve they had drank as their celebratory drink on her taste buds. their vows ringing through her mind, always promising to stick by each other throughout everything.
everything little memory of the past five years tainted from her soon to be ex husband, and every little thing they had done together.
“but dammit i wish i wasn’t this ready, to undo i do.”she paused, swallowing hard, knowing she had one more verse left before she was finished with the song, “but i wasn’t made for fixing a plate, and getting divorced sounds scary.”
“but i’m just not strong enough to hold on, with all of the weight that i carried.”she admitted, playing with the strings of her hoodie, knowing she was at the finish line, “yeah it was love, it really was.”
“then it was just married.”

How to Handle Common Issues During Invisalign Treatment
If you’re thinking about cosmetic dentistry to beautify your smile, you are probably searching for options like Invisalign Nashville or Veneers Nashville. Invisalign has emerged as a famous choice because of its almost invisible aligners and effective results. However, as with all dental treatment, there may be some commonplace problems along the way. Here's a guide on how to deal with those issues to ensure your adventure to a perfect smile is as easy as feasible.
Common Issues and Solutions
1. Discomfort and Soreness
One of the most common issues sufferers face at some stage in Invisalign's remedy is soreness and soreness, particularly when switching to a brand new set of aligners. This is normal while your teeth get adjusted to the new aligners.
Solution: Over-the-counter ache relievers can help manipulate the discomfort. Additionally, try and switch to new aligners before bedtime, so you sleep via the preliminary adjustment length.
2. Difficulty Speaking
Some sufferers can also revel in a mild lisp after they first begin wearing their aligners. This can be irritating, particularly in case you want to speak in professional or social settings.
Solution: Practice speaking out loud as much as feasible. Reading aloud or having conversations will help your tongue get used to the aligners, reducing the lisp over the years.
3. Keeping Aligners Clean
Maintaining the cleanliness of your Invisalign aligners is critical to avoid horrific breath and staining. It’s crucial to clean them nicely to make certain they live invisible and powerful.
Solution: Rinse your aligners every time you take them out. Brush them lightly with a toothbrush (without toothpaste) and soak them in Invisalign cleansing crystals or a denture purifier as endorsed with the aid of your dentist.
4. Aligners Not Fitting Properly
Sometimes, you may sense that your aligners are not becoming effective, which can hinder the progress of your remedy.
Solution: Use “chewies,” small cylindrical cushions, to help seat the aligners properly. If the hassle persists, schedule an appointment together with your dentist to ensure your treatment is on track.
Additional Tips for a Smooth Invisalign Experience
Stay Committed to Wearing Your Aligners
For Invisalign to be effective, you need to wear your aligners for approximately 20-22 hours a day. Taking them out often can postpone your remedy and affect the results.
Follow Your Dentist’s Instructions
Whether you’re present, process Invisalign in Nashville, or another cosmetic dentistry treatment, continually adhere to the hints provided by your dentist. Regular check-ups are critical to monitor your development and make important changes.
Consider Alternative Treatments
If you find that Invisalign isn’t suitable for you, there are other beauty dentistry options like veneers Nashville. Veneers can offer a short fix for numerous dental problems, along with gaps, stains, and misshapen teeth.
The Bottom Line
Invisalign is a notable choice in cosmetic dentistry for those looking to straighten their teeth discreetly. If you come upon issues that include pain, speaking difficulties, or aligner suit troubles, know that these are not unusual and achievable with the right approach. By following the tips above and retaining accurate communique together with your dentist, your adventure to a lovely smile may be clean and a hit. Whether you opt for Invisalign Nashville or explore different alternatives like veneers in Nashville, achieving your dream smile is inside reach.

Two-time Tony-nominated actress Laura Osnes chatted about starring in the new film “Candace Cameron Bure: Just in Time.”
This movie will be streaming on Great American Pure Flix on April 12.
‘Candace Cameron Presents: Just in Time’
On being a part of “Just in Time,” Osnes remarked, “It was wonderful. I am so grateful. We filmed it in January up in Canada. The crew did such an incredible job; they took care of us and it was nice to be able to tell a faith-forward story and to go on Hannah’s journey every day.”
“What I loved about this character was that there is so much depth and complexity to her, and what she was going through,” she admitted. “This was a really exciting journey to get to go on as an actor.”
youtube
In this rom-com, directed by Paula Elle, Hannah (Laura Osnes) and her husband, Rowan (Greyston Holt) have focused all their time, energy, and attention into trying to have a baby.
The pressure to complete their family starts weighing heavily on their relationship. The couple is left questioning if having a child is the right thing to do, and if they are still right for one another.
“Working with Greyston was great,” she said. “I wish we had more days to work with together. He was only on set for five days.”
Great American Pure Flix
Osnes spoke about being a part of the Great American Pure Flix family. “I love it, I am so grateful,” she said. “I love getting to make these movies, I have a lot of fun on set.”
“By doing these films, I realized that you can touch so many people in just one night in television,” she noted. “I think that’s really beautiful.”
Working with Candace Cameron Bure in ‘Just in Time’
On working with Candace Cameron Bure, Osnes said, “I was so grateful to get to work with Candace so closely on this project. I felt very honored that she trusted me with this role and this film, especially because her name and production company are above the title. That meant a lot to me.”
“Candace was on set every day. She was so present, accessible, humble, and she was such a pro,” Osnes exclaimed.
“Candace has been in this industry since she was a child so she had solutions to every problem and she made herself so available. Candace has such knowledge and expertise of the film industry,” Osnes elaborated.
‘A Dash of Christmas’
Osnes discussed starring in the Great American Family holiday film “A Dash of Christmas” opposite Christopher Russell as her male love interest.
The synopsis is: To apply for her dream job at a foodie startup, an executive (Laura Osnes) must learn to bake.
When she recruits a handsome baker to help her (Christopher Russell), she inadvertently ends up entered in a Christmas Bakeoff.
“That one was fun,” she admitted. “We got to make a lot of cookies, and eat a lot of baked goods, which is always a plus.”
“This was my first time working with Christopher Russell,” she said. “We have a lot of mutual friends, and he was so lovely, easy, and fun to work with on set.”
“I’ve been spoiled with my leading men,” she said with a sweet laugh.

The digital age
On being an actress in the digital age, Osnes said, “It’s great. The cool thing is that there is a ton of content being made all the time, so that has been really special.”
“There is a budding TV scene in Nashville that we are dipping our toes into, and hopefully, we will be able to create more content in the future,” she noted.
On working with Danny Burstein, she said, “I love Danny, he is such an amazing actor, human, and he is so grounded. He is so warm and loving. We keep in touch on social media and check up on each other once in a while.”
Future plans
Regarding her future plans, Osnes shared, “I have so many plans. My husband and I have a lot of creative irons in the fire. We moved to Nashville, Tennessee 2.5 years ago, and I started songwriting, so I released an EP, and I am still writing and starting to release new music.”
“To be honest, it’s fulfilling but it’s also a challenge, especially since it’s something that doesn’t come naturally to me,” she said.
“I am developing a concert series that I hope to do in the fall in Tennessee , so I am still singing, acting, and writing,” she noted. “I am creating all the time.”
“I also just finished writing a movie script with a friend of mine, so that has been new and a lot of fun. I’ve been learning so much,” she added.
Advice for young and aspiring actors
For young and aspiring actors, she said, “I actually love coaching and teaching the next generation. I do a lot of private lessons, and I travel and do masterclasses in colleges and schools. First, be yourself since only you can be you. Stay authentic, and be confident in that.”
“Also, be patient, and that’s the lesson in the movie ‘Just in Time’: patience and waiting for God’s perfect timing. That teaches you lessons on humility,” she said.
“Finally, plow your own path. I had a very unconventional path to Broadway… I won a TV reality show in 2007 and that cast me as Sandy in ‘Grease’ on Broadway,” she added.
‘Cinderella’ on Broadway
Osnes starred in the protagonist role of Cinderella in the Broadway musical “Cinderella,” for which she received a Drama Desk Award and her second Tony nomination for “Best Actress in a Musical.”
She had great words working opposite two-time Tony winner Victoria Clark. “Victoria is a great friend,” she said. “Victoria literally played my ‘Fairy Godmother’ so I call her ‘Mama Bear.’ We also got to reunite in a Hallmark movie called ‘One Royal Holiday.’
‘South Pacific’ on Broadway
She recalled that being a part of the musical “South Pacific” was “such a beautiful show” and she was “honored to be a part of it.” At the time, she had replaced Kelli O’Hara due to her then-pregnancy.
Stage of her life
Regarding the title of the current chapter of her life, Osnes said, “On the other side.” “That motto is still sitting with me,” she acknowledged.
Superpower of choice
Her superpower of choice would be to “heal people.” “I would love to heal sick people, whether it’s a physical injury, mental or emotional trauma. That would be an incredible gift to have,” she said. “Healing, for me, would probably be the most meaningful.”
Success
On her definition of the word success, Osnes shared, “Success is joy in doing what you love. Being happy and content doing what you love is what success is to me.”
Closing thoughts on ‘Candace Cameron Bure: Just in Time’ movie
For her fans and viewers, she remarked about the rom-com, “I hope that people are moved, inspired or changed by this story. Everybody has been through or is going through some difficult season.”
“This story, in particular, points to the hope that God can offer. There are so many themes of redemption, forgiveness, perseverance through hardship, and learning communication and patience,” she concluded.

name: Brooks Feldman gender & pronouns: Cis Man | He/him age & date of birth: 29 years old | January 3rd, 1994 neighborhood: Downtown time living in nashville: 6 months occupation: Singer & Songwriter
BACKGROUND.
Hyannis is so small it isn’t even officially a town, it’s a village on the coast of Massachusetts, boasting a little over 14,000 residents. There were worse places for Brooks Feldman to be brought into the world. But with its small size, everyone knew everyone’s business. They all knew that the captain of the Barnstable fire station, Mark Feldman, and his wife Eileen had been having issues, and they thought that having another kid would solve them. There were even rumors that Brooks wasn’t his father’s son, but the product of an affair that Eileen wouldn’t admit to. But those rumors were quickly shut down when Brooks came into the world with his father’s curls and sharp blue eyes. But Brooks wasn’t the solution to their marital problems like they had hoped, and before his second birthday, Eileen was moving out, leaving Mark to raise Brooks and his older brother Ryan with the help of the village around them.
Music became a mainstay in Brooks’ life around age four. His regular babysitter, Mrs. Carrol across the street, taught piano to high school students after school. Enraptured by the sounds, Brooks sat on the floor next to the piano during Mrs. Carrol’s lessons so often that she bought him a special chair for him to sit at to listen. When he was old enough, she offered to teach him how to play for free - as the years went on, he paid her in mowing her lawn and shoveling out her driveway after snow storms - and he found an after school activity he loved. He wasn’t as athletic as his brother or his friends, so going into middle school, Mark had been worried that his youngest wouldn’t have a hobby. But then he heard Brooks play, and after that day, he was enrolled in the Hyannis middle school orchestra.
Piano was his first instrument, but Brooks found out he preferred the guitar when he was thirteen and the guys at the firehouse all pitched in and got him one for his Bar Mitzvah. Something new to try, they had all said. When Mrs Carrol got too old to look after him and he spent his afternoons at the firehouse, his father’s coworkers taught him some of their favorite songs. It was a raucous rendition of Never Going Back Again by Fleetwood Mac, where the village realized that there was a talent in their midst. Not only could he play the guitar, but his voice carried over those of the boisterous firemen until it was just his own, floating a melody into the wind, letting the small town know that he wasn’t going to be there for long.
He started taking music more seriously in high school. Filling notebooks with song lyrics that he mostly kept to himself, entering school talent shows to do covers of songs and winning whatever cash prizes they offered. He sang the national anthem at his brother’s senior year football game as a freshman, and hearing all those crowds applauding after a performance gave Brooks a feeling he hasn’t felt before. He felt at home. For a long time, Brooks felt like he didn’t belong in his little house in his little town, with his little family. From a young age he heard over and over again about how unfortunate the circumstances of his parents divorce was, and as they grew up, an upset Ryan would sometimes place the blame fully on Brooks’ shoulders. It wasn’t true, and everyone promised that he wasn’t the reason the inevitable happened, but he never shook the feeling. And he spent most of his life running himself ragged to keep everyone around him happy - to prove that he had a place in their lives, so they wouldn’t leave him behind the way their mother did.
The only time he felt at peace was when he was on stage. And he continued to chase that feeling as he started to perform music he wrote at open mic nights in town and in Boston. As his brother got recruited for the Boston University football team, Brooks was turning his back on higher education. Opting to travel to the city, to meet with music execs and offer songs he wrote to artists. It took a few months of failures and making Youtube videos of him singing them himself, but in the fall of his senior year of high school he finally sold a song. And after that, it was an avalanche. People calling him, offering to fly him across the country to meet performers, to meet execs. They wanted a piece of Brooks Feldman before he hit it big. And because he was so excited to be in a field that he wanted to be in, working with people he only ever dreamed of working with, he gave those pieces of himself. Allowing his songs to be twisted into things they never were supposed to be - acoustic guitars being replaced with synthesizers, an EDM beat underneath a song he wrote about feeling lonely.
For the first time, music wasn’t his safe space. And it took years of this back and forth, and a drunken weekend on his brother’s couch after his 21st birthday, to realize that he didn’t like what he became. But what do I do? He had no idea. He had a shitty apartment in LA, where all the musicians were, according to the execs. The heat pissed him off and he felt disconnected from the family he had back in his hometown. But sitting in his brother’s living room in Boston after a two week break for the holidays, Ryan finally set him straight. Just do what you did before. Perform it yourself. He was right. So Brooks went back to LA, packed his apartment and told the execs that he wasn’t selling his songs anymore.
They had laughed him off. Telling him that his style of music - acoustic, folksy and quiet - didn’t sell anymore. They turned their backs on him and that left Brooks terrified. But as he worked from the converted basement in his father and step mother’s house back in Hyannis, he knew he had to try. He released a quick album of songs that he kept away from the eyes of the teams in LA to get feelers out. It had been a combination of pop and folksy, leaning more toward pop, and it had done well. But it still wasn’t Brooks.
His heart was in the music that apparently was unsellable, and he couldn’t ignore it anymore. So he started working on an album that could only be described as “folksy”. And the execs in LA couldn’t have been more wrong. Because on a whim, Brooks recorded himself performing one of his new songs Stick Season at a family barbecue that summer, and posted it on his social media. And days later, it was a trending sound on TikTok. After selling out a tour with an album that no one in LA thought could sell, Brooks returned home to a letter from labels out in Nashville. They knew how to sell folk records and they wanted to work with him. So once again, Brooks found himself saying goodbye to his tiny village on the coast of Massachusetts, for a city that didn’t know his name. But he had a feeling this might go better than before.

new friends, new music | A.I.
Ashton Irwin Imagine:
Ashton Irwin – you’re their opening act, and you write a song with Ash.
singer!y/n x Ashton
(the first song is Tennis Court, and the second is Ribs, both by Lorde. let’s pretend here, friends)
Being the opening act for 5 Seconds of Summer is great. You were loving it. The energy and support from the crowd was life changing.
However, part of you felt like there was something missing. You felt out of place. Every night, you would perform the same set of songs you had written for yourself while at your university, and your manager had encouraged you to record them and put them out. You were a baby musician and followed their guidance, but now that you have grown, you can’t help but feel like your music isn’t ‘you’ anymore.
To you, it felt sloppy and anti-climactic. If you weren’t confident or happy with your music, how could the crowd be?
You wouldn’t blame them if they put you on blast on twitter. You felt the same way.
The solution to your problem was to just not write bad songs. Easy right? So, you spent the majority of your bus time either sleeping, eating, or writing music. It wasn’t horrible.
You were on bus two with the second opening act. They were a three-member band, and you got along with them pretty well. You wouldn’t personally choose to hang with them, but you lived together on a tour bus so you couldn’t really escape them.
The bus assignments were pretty loose. You slept on bus two, but you weren’t confined to it. The members of the other opening act occasionally spent their time on bus one with headliners. You cherished that time because it was quiet enough for you to work on your new music, and you could be as loud as you wanted.
The tour was currently traveling from Charlotte, NC to Nashville, TN, and you were alone in your bus. Or, so you thought.
***
You were sitting in the back lounge of the tour bus with an acoustic guitar resting on your lap and a pair of rose gold headphones resting on your head.
You began to strum opening notes of the melody you were working on while humming and mouthing some lyrics to go with it. You would stop every once in a while to jot some notes down into your little notebook. You had been in your head for quite sometime until you decided you needed a break.
You played through the work in progress once before you got up to lock it in your brain. You strummed and sang along with the lyrics you had just written as loud as you pleased. Once you finished and felt content with your work, you got up to grab a snack and drink from the kitchen area.
With your headphones still securely placed on your head, you began to blast some Panic! At the Disco and scrolled through Instagram as you trekked to the kitchen. Following your usual route without paying attention, you climbed onto the booth table seat to reach the top cabinet that you placed your snacks in. You placed a hand firmly on the wall to keep your balance.
Unfortunate for you, the bus hit a bump in the road causing you to teeter off the booth seat with your graham crackers in one hand and you phone in the other. You braced yourself for your inevitable fall before you felt a hand grab you by the waist.
“oh my god.”
You jumped from the sudden contact and pulled yourself away from the person after regaining your balance.
Your mighty savior laughed at your outburst.
“are you alright?” the Australian asked after he quickly finished laughing.
You looked up and slid your headphones to rest on your neck. The one and only Ashton Irwin sat at the very booth seat you had just climbed on. You had nearly stepped on him.
“I’m fine. You just scared me,” you said taking a breath. “I’m sorry. I was in my head, and I totally didn’t see you there.”
“don’t sweat it. It’s fine,” he said glancing to your box of graham crackers. “you might have to share some of those with me, though.”
Now that you had finally calmed down, you set the box down on the table before moving the grab a water from the fridge.
“do you want anything to drink?” you asked in an attempt to be hospitable to guy you had nearly climbed up just to get a few graham crackers.
“I’m good. I helped myself earlier,” he said while scrolling through his phone.
You grabbed a drink for yourself before taking a seat across the table from him.
To be honest, he was kind of intimidating, and you had never really had a conversation with him. Of course, you had listened to his music, and you were a fan. He and the rest of his band just felt unapproachable to you.
He typed a few things into his laptop before going back to his phone.
“i-uh-can go if you’re super busy,” you said preparing to leave him a sleeve of graham crackers and head back to the lounge.
He immediately snapped his eyes to you.
“no,” he said quickly. “I’m not doing anything important. I’m just putting some dates and events into the calendar on my phone that my manager emailed the band. You don’t need to leave.”
“okay, are you sure? I don’t mind.”
“no, seriously. You should stay.”
“okay,” you softly said as you opened a sleeve of graham crackers.
You slide the half open sleeve to him, and he grabbed two before sliding it back to you.
“so how come you never hang out with everyone in my bus?” Ashton asked with an eyebrow raised to you.
You grabbed a cracker for yourself. “I like to work on some stuff when its quiet. Nothing personal against hanging with everyone, I just need a moment to myself.”
“cheers to that,” he said tapping his graham cracker against yours.
“so why are you visiting bus two?” you leaned back in your seat.
“it got a bit chaotic in bus one, and I needed a break for myself,” he paused to take a bit. “I could feel a migraine coming on.
“oh, do you need something for it? I’ve got ibuprofen-”
“nah,” he shook his head. “I had a small nap, and it went away.”
“oh okay. I’m sorry if I was being loud back in the lounge.”
“no, you were fine. It was calming,” he admitted while examining your face. “whatever you were working on sounded really good. Are you going to add it to your set?”
You took a swig of your water. “I’m not sure if I want to. The song feels too personal to share right now. I don’t think I’ll be playing it until I start putting out music that’s more me, you know?”
“that’s more you?” he squinted his eyes at you. “not a fan of your current stuff?”
“hardly,” you admit. “it just feels too out of place. Half of those songs I wrote at 2 am for a music theory class in college, and the other half are manufactured pop rock songs. My manager wanted me to put out an album so badly that he didn’t really care what went into it, and now I can’t perform them without cringing. I’ve just- uh- I don’t know- like- I feel like I’ve just kinda-I don’t know-”
“you’ve grown,” he shrugged.
“yeah. I have,” you pause looking him dead in the eye. “and I need my music to progress with me.”
“I get that. You’ve found the music you want to make, and you want to perform music you’re passionate about rather than the stuff you’re given. Nothing wrong with that,” he shrugged before leaning forward. “so how many do you have written?”
“songs?”
“yeah, how many songs do you have written?”
“like twenty, but I only like four of them.”
“counting the one you were working on earlier?”
“no, that’s not finished yet.” You took another chomp out of your cracker.
“okay,” he nodded. “can I write some stuff with you?”
“really?” you almost choke. “you want to work with me?”
“yeah, why not?” he smiled. “we’ve got nothing to do for the next three hours.”
***
You and Ashton sat on the floor of the lounge working out a song. You both had guitars on your lap while you worked out melodies. Ashton was tapping out a beat on the body of the acoustic he was borrowing. You hummed along to the melody you were working on before snapped up straight and slung the guitar off your lap.
You leaped up to grab your notebook from the couch and began to flip through it until you found your page. You set the book down in front of you as you place the guitar back on your lap.
“what if, it went like this,” you started before strumming the melody. You began to sing:
“baby, be the class clown,
I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form,
showin’ people how little we care”
“I like it, yeah, yeah, let’s keep running with it.”
“okay, keep the beat that you were doing,” you said before you went back to your singing.
“baby, be the class clown,
I’ll be the beauty queen in tears
It’s a new art form,
showin’ people how little we care
We’re so happy, even when we’re smilin’ out of fear
Let’s go down to the tennis courts and talk it up like yeah (yeah)”
Ashton let out one of his bleated laughs. “where did you get ‘tennis courts’?”
You let out a little laugh as he distracted you from you train of thought. “I went to a private high school. We had tennis courts that the popular kids hung out at.”
“that’s ridiculous,” he laughed.
“I know.”
***
“But my head's filling up with the wicked games, up in flames
How can I f*** with the fun again, when I'm known
And my boys trip me up with their heads again, loving them
Everything's cool when we're all in line, for the throne
But I know it's not forever (Yeah)
Baby be the class clown
I'll be the beauty queen in tears
It's a new art form showing people how little we care (yeah)
We're so happy, even when we're smilin' out of fear
Let's go down to the tennis court, and talk it up like yeah (yeah)”
You sat singing the song you and Ashton had just finished into your voice memos while he tapped out the beat for you.
“that was so cool.”
You smiled sheepishly at the drummer after you had finished voice-memo-ing your song.
“thanks.”
“that’s gonna be a banger,” he laughed adjusting his hair. “what else do you got in your little book?”
You laughed before tossing it into his lap. “beware, some of it’s angsty, but I trust you not to judge too harshly.”
You stood up to grab you both some more snacks and waters while Ashton flipped through your countless pages of lyrics.
“hey, I like this one,” he shouted from the other room.
“which one,” you shouted back.
“it feels so scary getting old.”
Your feet padded into the room with your arms full of the box of graham crackers and waters.
“that’s a dark one.”
“I don’t judge.” He said looking up from the one of the pages. “it’s that all you eat?”
Ashton laughed at you as you shoved a cracker into your mouth. So much for not judging…
“is there something wrong with that?”
“extremely,” he laughed grabbing a cracker for himself. “you do eat other foods, right? With nutrients and stuff?”
“yeshf,” you replied with a full mouth. “it’s a snack. I’ll eat actually food when we stop for dinner.”
“can I buy you dinner?”
“uhhhhh-”
“so that we can talk about more song ideas, you know?”
“oh, yeah, sure,” you nodded. “I would like that.”
“cool, so let’s work on this one,” he said directing your attention to the page with the lyrics written on it.
“damn that’s angsty,” you said after you scanned the page. “let’s do it.”
***
“This dream isn't feeling sweet
We're reeling through the midnight streets
And I've never felt more alone
It feels so scary, getting old
I want 'em back (I want 'em back)
The minds we had (the minds we had)
How all the thoughts (how all the thoughts)
Moved 'round our heads (moved 'round our heads)
I want 'em back (I want 'em back)
The minds we had (the minds we had)
It's not enough to feel the lack
I want 'em back, I want 'em back, I want 'em
You're the only friend I need
Sharing beds like little kids
Laughing 'til our ribs get tough
But that will never be enough”
You bopped back and forth to the beat as you sang along to the beat Ashton was giving as you sang the song you had just thrown together.
When you finished, Ashton let out a whistle.
“another one, baby, another one. THIS IS ROCK N ROLL BABY,” he screamed excitedly as you laughed before collapsing onto the couch next to you.
Both of your heads’ rested against the same cushion just inches apart.
“I’d say today was quite productive,” you whisper tiredly between the two of you.
“we did good,” he raised his hand to bump his knuckles against yours.
“we did. Pretty good team, huh?”
You were both stuck in a post-songwriting-genius session haze, and both of your eyes linger just a little too long on each other.
Thankfully, the bus lurched forward as it stopped at the rest stop to fill up and for everyone to grab dinner, which pulled you both from your little world.
Ashton was the first to break the gaze as he pulled himself off the couch to help you up.
“c’mon, let’s go get some real food.”
You groan as he yanks you up from the couch before you head to tear apart your bunk to find your pair of converse.
…and that’s how you became best friends with Ashton Irwin…
.

Where's God When I'm Scared?! Part 1
It wasn’t difficult to decide which Christian children’s program I wanted to review first. I’m sure there is no person who grew up in the 90’s that doesn’t at least recognize Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber. The hosts of one of the most well-beloved shows by Christian families.
That’s right. VeggieTales.
Now, VeggieTales is a long show. With four different iterations to cover, this is going to be my longest running series. But this show is the most important one to cover, as it’s the most well known out of all the series I’ve been able to find.
The show started in 1993 by a start up company called Big Idea, run by Phil Vischer and Mike Nawrocki. They wanted to teach Christian values in a fun and entertaining way, and boy did they hit the mark. Bible stories with pop culture references that even parents could understand and enjoy. There is a good 30 years of work for us to look at, so let’s jump right in!
“Tales From The Crisper” is the first segment of the debut episode titled, “Where’s God When I’m Scared?!” The moral we will be looking at for this segment is the following:
We don’t need to be afraid of scary things because there is a God who created us, loved us, and is always looking out for us.
Five year old Junior Asparagus is frightened by the movie “Frankencelery”. The hosts of our show decide to use strange magical powers to teleport to his room to help.
Bob’s solution to Junior’s problem is singing him a song: “God Is Bigger”, which you can listen to here if you’d like:
youtube
Bob asks Junior, “What are you gonna do?” Junior replies, “I’m going to call the police.” And here is where I have my first big problem with this segment: Bob’s reply. “No. You don’t need to do anything!” Why? Well, God is bigger than the boogeyman, and he’s watching out for you and me. But if a child is scared of something, shouldn’t the advice be to go to their parents? A child should know that they can always go to their parents if they are afraid of something, no matter how small. By saying they don’t have to do anything about it, those kids will find themselves in real danger. They’ll rely on an invisible God to save them….but if someone is determined to hurt them, no God will protect them. Only trusted adults.
Junior doesn’t quite understand what Bob’s trying to convey. He tells Junior, “You see, everything God makes is very special to Him. He made all the little kids and He loves them very much. And because He loves them, he takes extra good care of them. So we don’t need to be afraid because God is always looking out for us!”
Problem #2.
I know that Christian parents are well meaning when they say things like this. They believe that God is out there, and they want their child to feel the comfort they do. But that’s not true. You can look around the world and see the suffering of children everywhere. Natural disasters take the lives of children, adults take advantage of children. There isn’t a single place on the planet where a child is 100% safe. Making a child believe that God is going to take extra good care of them is setting them up for disappointment. They will experience hurt or see a friend they love hurt.
After Junior shows he understands, BOOM! Frankencelery shows up.
(So, can all vegetable people do this, or just the Christian ones?)
Anyway, the reveal is that he’s an actor from Toledo named Phil Winklestein. After a rousing reprise of “God Is Bigger”, Bob, Larry, and Phil vanish.
Probably to go scare another kid by suddenly appearing in their room.
Oblivious Dad Asparagus comes in to finish up the lesson. Surprisingly, he actually adds a decent little piece of advice. “I do think we should be a little more careful about what we watch on television. And you know what? It’s okay to tell us if you’re really scared.”
Finally, Junior is told that he can go to his parents anytime he feels scared. And his dad is taking responsibility for letting Junior watch something that’s a bit too scary for him.
-
If I may go on a tangent for a moment: stay with me, it’ll be short. 1998 was a year of tornado outbreaks all over the U.S. 130 people in total died to these storms that year. My dad worked in Nashville when the infamous F3 tornado hit Nashville in April of that year. I’ve been deathly afraid of tornados since. Knowing God was the biggest didn’t take away that fear. Because like the boogieman, God isn’t actually real and can’t protect me from real danger. The same goes for children. God won’t protect them either. Parents should have a conversation with their children when they feel afraid. Teach them healthy coping skills, and make a plan for when they feel like they’re in danger.
And if you disagree with me on this point, remember this:
Children were amongst the casualties in the 1998 tornados. Either God protects all children, or he picks and chooses who he’s going to protect.
Thanks for reading! I'll be reviewing the second half of this episode next week. If you have a show that you'd like to see reviewed, message me! I'll add it to my list.

How to Address Bad Breath: Tips and Remedies Recommended by Hermitage Dentists
Bad breath, scientifically known as halitosis, can be an uncomfortable and embarrassing problem to deal with. Whether you're chatting with coworkers, spending time with loved ones, or meeting new people, the last thing you want is to worry about the freshness of your breath. Fortunately, with the guidance of a Hermitage dentist, you can tackle bad breath head-on and regain your confidence. Here are some effective tips and remedies recommended by dentists in Nashville TN and cosmetic experts to address bad breath and ensure your smile stays fresh and inviting.
Understanding the Causes of Bad Breath
To effectively tackle bad breath, it's imperative to grasp the underlying factors that contribute to this common issue. At its core, inadequate oral hygiene stands out as the principal instigator of halitosis. When remnants of food persist within the oral cavity, bacteria seize the opportunity to thrive, emitting unpleasant odors in the process. Furthermore, the consumption of pungent foods such as onions, garlic, and various spices can exacerbate the problem, adding to the olfactory discomfort. The absence of sufficient saliva, often associated with conditions like dry mouth, exacerbates this issue, providing an ideal environment for bacterial proliferation. Engaging in smoking amplifies the problem, as tobacco compounds linger in the mouth, imparting a distinctively foul smell. Beyond these lifestyle factors, underlying medical conditions such as gum disease or sinus infections can serve as additional catalysts for persistent halitosis. Thus, comprehending the multifaceted nature of bad breath empowers individuals to pursue targeted interventions for effective mitigation.

Choosing to collaborate with a proficient Hermitage dentist represents a strategic approach in the battle against bad breath. These professionals possess a wealth of expertise in the realm of dental care, offering a wide array of services geared toward combating halitosis with precision. By forging a partnership with a Hermitage dentist, individuals gain access to tailored solutions crafted to address their unique oral health concerns, paving the way for a revitalized smile and newfound confidence.
Maintaining Optimal Oral Hygiene
One of the most effective ways to prevent and combat bad breath is by maintaining optimal oral hygiene practices. This includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, flossing daily to remove food particles and plaque from between your teeth, and using an antimicrobial mouthwash to kill bacteria and freshen your breath. Additionally, don't forget to clean your tongue regularly using a tongue scraper or your toothbrush to remove bacteria and debris that can contribute to bad breath.
Healthy Dietary Choices
Your diet plays a significant role in the freshness of your breath. Avoiding foods and beverages known to cause bad breath, such as onions, garlic, coffee, and alcohol, can help minimize unpleasant odors. Instead, opt for fresh fruits and vegetables, which can help stimulate saliva production and naturally cleanse your mouth. Drinking plenty of water throughout the day also helps keep your mouth hydrated and reduces the risk of dry mouth, a common cause of bad breath.
Quitting Tobacco Products
Smoking and other tobacco products not only stain your teeth and increase your risk of oral cancer but also contribute to bad breath. Tobacco use dries out your mouth and leaves behind a lingering odor that can be challenging to mask. If you're a smoker or tobacco user, quitting is one of the best things you can do for your oral health and overall well-being. Your dentist Nashville TN can provide resources and support to help you kick the habit for good.
Seeking Treatment for Underlying Dental Issues
In some cases, persistent bad breath may be a symptom of an underlying dental problem, such as gum disease or tooth decay. If you're experiencing chronic halitosis despite practicing good oral hygiene habits, it's essential to seek professional dental care from a Hermitage dentist. They can perform a thorough examination to identify any underlying issues and recommend appropriate treatment to restore your oral health and eliminate bad breath.
Cosmetic Solutions for Fresh Breath
In addition to addressing underlying dental issues, Hermitage cosmetic dentists offer a range of cosmetic solutions to enhance the appearance and freshness of your smile. Invisalign is a popular treatment option for straightening misaligned teeth without the need for traditional braces. Not only can Invisalign Nashville dentist improve your smile's aesthetics, but it can also make it easier to maintain proper oral hygiene, reducing the risk of bad breath.
Final Thoughts
Bad breath can be a source of embarrassment and self-consciousness, but it doesn't have to be a permanent problem. By following the tips and remedies recommended by Hermitage dentists, you can effectively address halitosis and enjoy a fresh, confident smile. Nature & Grace
There is a problem with the human condition. It is not a new problem. It is not a problem identified solely by one individual or group. Rather, it is a problem that is understood by different people through the years. In our present culture in the U.S.A., we are not surprised when we see fighting and backbiting. We see labels such as homophobic, misogynistic, racist, bigot, and more being thrown around. Everyone is aware that things are not as they should be. We don’t all agree though on what the problem is precisely or how to come about a solution.
One way to consider the problem with our human condition, from the vantage point of the Old and New Testaments that comprise the Bible, is called sin. John Wesley, in his sermon The End of Christ’s Coming (Sermon 62), writes “To take the matter from the beginning: ‘The Lord God’ ... ‘created man in his own image;’ -- in his own natural image, as to his better part, that is, a spirit, as God is a spiritual; endued with understanding; which, if not the essence, seems to be the most essential property, of a spirit.” (Paragraph 3) While we may be created in the image of God, it is doubtful that any would contend that we live up to such an image at present. The problem is sin. From the vantage point of traditional western christian thought, we have a guilt problem. From the vantage point of eastern christian thought, we have an “infirmity of our nature.” (Maddox, p. 73, 1994) We are sin-sick so to speak. We have been marred by sin. Yet, we are not left in a hopeless estate.
While there are a number of ways in which people might try to approach and contend with the brokenness we find in our world, the solution for the follower of Jesus is wrapped up and rooted in the move of God. In particular, the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus highlights, accentuates, and works on the behalf of humanity in a way that nothing else does or can. We may seek political, economic, relational, medical, and other such solutions, but try as we might, they are not sufficient to the task. However, all of these elements can be used redemptively when sufficiently sourced through the grace of God. They are not the root of the solution, but they all can and should play a role.
It is in humility that we must come before God and recognize our need of Him. After all, as Maddox notes on the thinking of John Wesley, “we are created and dependent beings.” (p. 67, 1994) This isn’t a negative thing though. I think of my son.
This picture is of him praying at a baptism service at our church a number of years ago. I knew a time when he was not. He has been throughout his life, dependent on me, his mother, and others. Yet, he is loved immensely and has gifts, talents, and graces afforded to him to steward. To be created and dependent is a beautiful thing when there is great love and affection afforded to the one upon whom we owe our existence and subsistence. I think of a favorite passage of scripture of mine found in 1 John 3:1a. “See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are.” We are beloved children, and that is a good thing.
It is because of God’s love for us that He doesn’t leave us to languish in our sin and brokenness. While others may strive against the brokenness in our world, we can rest in Him who is interested in the work of “the gracious and gradual restoration of humanity to God-likeness.” (Maddox, p. 67, 1994) Yet, it is not just trying to put things back together like gluing a broken vase back to its original state. It’s much more. John Wesley writes that in the work that God does in preparing us for eternity we will find, “an unmixed staled of holiness and happiness far superior to that which Adam enjoyed in Paradise.” (Sermon 64, Paragraph 18).
We have a God who is mighty in strength and power, and He is for us. It makes me think of a recent trip to our local zoo. The lion is powerful and sits comfortably and confidently regardless of situation.
We too can be confident regardless of circumstance because of the Lion of Judah. “Then one of the elders said to me, ‘Do not weep. See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered.’” (Revelation 5:5 NRSV)
In Jesus, we can have redemption. It is afforded to us. It is not forced upon us. God loves us, and love by its very nature doesn’t force, contrive, or coerce. “Without God’s grace, we cannot be saved; while without our participation, God’s grace will not save.” (Maddox, p. 19, 1994) Jesus came that we might be saved. We share “a bond of brotherhood” with Jesus. (Crawford, p. 38, 2015) God has made a way, and we can live in that new Way. Jesus says in John 14:6-7, “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you know me, you will know my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.’” (NRSV)
There is a way out of the brokenness. There is truth amidst a world of deceit. There is life in a world so often marred by death. Sin is a real problem in our world, but the love and grace of God is a real solution to that problem.
Are you living in step with the grace of God today? Are you aware of your need for Him? If you are, then you will find yourself equipped to better handle the brokenness in your own life. There will be hardships, but we will never be left alone to them. And we will be able to live out and share this good news with others. We need not label the brokenness in our world as though there are good people and bad people. Rather, we can see everyone as someone deeply loved by God and look to address the sin-sickness in our world by sharing the love and grace of God that has been afforded to us.
We must deal with ideas, practices, and systems that are harmful to people. Yet, we must do so in ways that demonstrates love to everyone. After all, we are all caught up in and guilty of feeding into brokenness in our world at one time or another. The work of God though makes a way forward. As John Wesley writes, “[The Christian] feels a displacing at every offense against God, but only tender compassion to the offender.” (p. 26, 1966) We are offended by the brokenness in our lives and world. In Christ, we are overwhelmed with compassion and a desire to see things set right and people made whole through the grace and love of God.

Problem-Solving in Marriage
The home is a garden. Weeds keep cropping up in a garden that must be constantly removed, so that our planted seeds can grow well. Every normal marriage has problems and challenges. It is only when there is a fire that you see which of the sticks around you is actually a snake.
And when Paul had gathered a bundle of sticks, and laid them on the fire, there came a viper out of the heat...
Acts 28:3
In other words, in times of trouble, the character of a spouse shows clearly.
But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
1 Corinthians 7:28
Remember the prayer of St. Francis Xavier:
“God grant me the courage to change the things I can change; the serenity to accept the things I cannot change and the wisdom to know the difference.”
Major Problem Areas in Marriage
(a) Communication
(b) Sex
(c) Money
(d) Temperament
(e) Children
(f) In-laws
(g) Job
(h) Housework
(i) Infidelity.
Approach
Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
Galatians 6:1
It is in the interest of married couples to do all they can to prevent problems from showing up in their marriages.
Preventive measures are always better than curative solutions to problems.
However, the reality of the marital relationship is that no matter what you do, issues crop up that lead to problems. If problems arise, your approach to solving them must be this:1
(a) Pray about the situation.
(b) Be positive that there is a solution.
(c) Bring up the issue (in the spirit of meekness––do not be confrontational).
(d) Identify the causes (sincerely). Get to the root, not the tip of the problem.
(e) If necessary, consult your pastors.
Methods of Solving Problems
1. Be ready to compromise.
There is no winner or loser in marriage, you are one flesh.2When there is a clear disagreement, the husband’s decision must stand and the wife must support it even if he turns out to be wrong. However, the man must not be domineering. He must not be a dictator in his house.3
2. Things to avoid when solving problems:
(a) Do not shout.
(b) Do not share your problems with your relatives or friends.
(c) Do not break down in tears.
(d) Do not use sex as a weapon (do not refuse him/her).
(e) Do not refuse to eat prepared food.
(f) Never use the word DIVORCE in quarrels.
(g) Avoid the counsel of the ungodly.
3. Have a forgiving attitude and spirit.
Forgiveness is very essential for the survival of the marriage.4Do not be nice to outsiders, but impatient and inconsiderate to your spouse.
4. Be prepared to talk frankly about the issue.
The offended person must be willing to open up and share in love rather than nag, shout or bury things.
For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me. Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles. I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.
Job 32:18-20
5. The other party must be willing to accept fault and apologise.
“I AM SORRY.” These three words can resolve almost all quarrels. Be humble and don’t find it difficult to apologise.
And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in “heaven forgive your trespasses.
Mark 11:25-26
6. Do not let any problem colour your future actions.5
Counsellors to note:
1. Our marriage counselling applies to the ideal couple who are both born-again Christians and submitted to the Word of God.
2. If both of them are not fully submitted to the pastors and the Church, you cannot really solve the problems.
3. If the person is not in your church, don’t waste much time because they are not fully submitted to you.
4. Don’t take sides in solving problems.
5. Don’t answer the question, “What should I do?” in a direct way. People will say you made them do whatever they did.
6. Don’t be so vague that people cannot understand what you are saying.
