༺═──────────────═༻
Instead of taking the bus back with the team, Jamie takes Trevor’s rental car to the hotel with (Y/N). Cronin didn’t give him any issues when he said he was going to get a ride back. Probably because Jamie played well during the game and had an assist on the Ducks’ only goal. All he has to do is be on time for the flight back to Anaheim in the morning.
The ride to the hotel feels like an eternity in Las Vegas traffic. (Y/N) thinks Los Angeles and New York traffic is terrible but Vegas on a warm night is just as bad. All she wants to do is spend the night with her boyfriend and show him how proud she is of him.
She keeps a hand on Jamie’s leg the entire drive back to the hotel. Jamie has a hand resting on hers while he responds to some texts on his phone. Music is playing at a soft level so they aren’t driving back in complete silence.
Jamie chuckles beside her and she glances over at him when they stop at a red light. "The team found out that I wasn't getting on the bus with them and Trevor told them why so now they're all making comments in the group chat," he tells her. "Some of the comments are funny."
(Y/N) smiles and keeps her eyes on the road. "I'm glad that they feel like they can still tease you considering this was your first game back after injury and your contract dispute," she replies.
"Me too."
She parks the car when she gets to the hotel. This time the car is parked closer to the entrance since she doesn't have to hide from the Ducks or Jamie. Jamie grabs her hand as they walk inside. She can't help but smile at how he is being so public with his affection.
He normally isn't like this, but she's never minded a little PDA. Jamie isn't normally a fan of PDA. They'll hold hands occasionally, but they never do when he thinks his teammates will be around. Jamie doesn't like some of the comments they, mostly Trevor and Mason, make when they show affection.
Of course a couple of Ducks players are sitting in the lobby when (Y/N) and Jamie walk into the hotel. One of them whistles to get their attention. She looks over and sees Frank, Mason, Rico, and Cam are all sitting in the lounge area across from the check-in desk.
Rico and Frank have grins on their faces. Mason smiles and shouts, "Get it, Jimmy!"
(Y/N) looks up at Jamie, who finally looks over at Mason. "Be glad I'm not going to be on the same floor as you," he retorts. "You wouldn't be saying that if I was."
Mason's jaw drops and Jamie snickers as he pulls (Y/N) to the elevator. She clicks the button for her floor as the doors shut. Jamie wastes no time in the empty elevator and presses her against the cool wall by her waist.
"You can't wait a few more minutes?" she giggles.
"You're a sight in my jersey, (Y/N)," he tells her as he leans and nips at her jaw. "Plus, I've really missed you. I wasn't expecting to see you here when you're supposed to be in New York for another week."
She melts against Jamie and wraps her arms around his neck. "I had to be there for your first game," she manages to get out. "I haven't watched you play NHL hockey yet."
The elevator dings and Jamie backs away just in case anyone is on the other side of the doors. There is no one so (Y/N) grabs his hand and walks down the hallway to her room. She digs in her pocket for the key as they stumble down the hallway.
As she grabs her key when they reach her door, Jamie comes up behind her and wraps his arms around her waist. He moves her hair off her shoulder and begins kissing her neck. "Jamie," she gasps as she unlocks the door with the key. "We're literally right outside the room."
"Get inside the room," he mumbles against her skin.
"So needy," she teases as she pushes the door open. Jamie stumbles into the room behind her.
The door shuts and Jamie is quick to spin them around to (Y/N) is being pressed against the wall right by the door. She gasps and stares up at Jamie. "You have no idea how much I've missed you," he says to her as he presses himself against her.
Something pokes at (Y/N)'s waist and she smiles. "I think I might have an idea," she replies as she snakes her hand between them. She palms Jamie over the pants of his arrival suit. He lets out a low groan.
"Fuck," he breathes out. She presses a little harder and he lets out a soft gasp. "Oh, fuck me."
She uses her other hand to begin unbuttoning Jamie's button up that he's wearing under his jacket as her lips attach to his neck right under his jaw. She's gotten pretty good at unbuttoning his shirts with one hand recently. It drives Jamie crazy that she can do this.
As soon as his shirt is unbuttoned and untucked from his pants, she trails kisses down his neck to his chest. "(Y/N)," he sighs as she nips at his chest. "Bed. Now."
"Take me to bed, Jamie," she challenges.
Without missing a beat, Jamie lifts her up. She sequels and wraps herself around him as he walks fifteen feet to the closest bed.
She's still wrapped around him when he deposits her onto the mattress after crawling onto the bed on his knees. He falls and hovers on top of her as her head hits the pillows and she lets out a giggle. He smiles and looks down at her.
The sight above her is almost too much for (Y/N).
His usually soft eyes have a fire behind them that she only sees when he's turned on. She can see his freckles scattered across his nose and cheeks in the dimly lit room. The smile he has on his lips is beautiful. Jamie's beautiful.
She reaches up and cups Jamie's jaw in her hands. "I missed you," she tells him. Her voice is so soft it almost comes out as a whisper. "A month away from you is too long."
"I agree," he says. "I missed you too. I missed this."
Needing him close to her, (Y/N) pulls Jamie into a searing kiss. It's hot and needy and quick from the moment their lips connect. The kiss alone is enough to cause a warm sensation to form in her belly. She's been away from Jamie too long.
Jamie grinds the bulge of his pants against her legging covered core. He lifts one of her legs around his waist to get a better angle. She lets out a soft groan into the kiss that follows.
She pushes the jacket and unbuttoned shirt he's still wearing off his upper body. Jamie throws them somewhere on the floor without breaking the kiss. Her hands find their way to the back of his neck and her fingers curl into the hair at the base of his neck. She pulls him even closer to him.
His lips leave hers and attach to her neck. He nips at the skin but is careful not to leave any marks. Hopefully.
She sighs and reaches between them to get Jamie's pants off his body. She manages to get them down to his knees before he kicks them off. Her hand sneaks into the waistband of his boxers to get a hold of his hard dick. She gives him a few slow pumps.
Jamie begins to slowly kiss down her neck. "(Y/N)," he mumbles against her collarbone. "Jersey off."
"Get off of me then."
She feels Jamie smile before he falls onto his side. (Y/N) sits up and pulls Jamie's jersey over her head. He props himself up on his elbow and pulls at her leggings. "These too because you know I'm going to struggle getting them off and I want to get my hands on you as soon as possible," he tells her.
(Y/N) laughs and shakes her head. "I think you need to figure out how to get a pair of leggings off a woman, Jamie," she teases. "You wear compression pants all the time so I don't know how you can't get a pair of leggings off of me."
"I'm rarely ever in a rush to get my compression pants off," Jamie tells her. "Get them off, (Y/N). Please."
Another laugh falls from her lips as she lays back and lifts her hips off the mattress so she can get her leggings off. She throws them to the side and pulls Jamie back down for a tender kiss.
His hand runs up and down her right thigh. She lets her legs fall apart for him. Jamie jumps on the opportunity because he immediately slips his fingers into the waistband of her lace panties.
Yes, she wore a lace set under the jersey. She hoped that she would end up in bed with Jamie since it had been weeks. She wanted to look nice.
He runs his fingers through her already soaked folds. She wouldn't be surprised if the lace was ruined from how wet she is. Jamie hums into the kiss. "So wet," he mumbles.
"Only for you," she says between kisses. Jamie smiles and dips a finger into her. She gasps and pulls back from the kiss to look at him. "Jamie. Teasing isn't nice. Finger me or don't-"
Jamie cuts her off by fully sinking two fingers into her. She whines at the sudden but familiar feel of Jamie's fingers inside of her. "I always take care of you, baby," he tells her.
He begins to move his fingers and she sighs. Her right hands makes it over to the waistband of Jamie's boxers. She slides it in and wraps her hand around his dick. Her thumb runs over the leaking tip and uses the precome to pump him easier.
They're both a mess as they work each other closer to the edge. Jamie lets out soft groans and (Y/N) moans every time Jamie moves his fingers into her. Jamie's nose is buried against her cheek and he occasionally presses a soft kiss to her cheekbone.
Eventually, Jamie adds a third fingers. She cries out when he curls his fingers every time he moves them. "Jamie," she whines. "Jamie, Jamie Jamie."
"I've got you," he tells her, breath hitting her ear. "Come, baby. I know you want to. Come on my fingers."
His words are the reason she comes right then and there. She lets out a loud cry and her entire body shakes from the orgasm. Her back arches off the bed and closer to Jamie. Her vision goes completely white for a second.
Her legs are shaking and Jamie has his fingers in his mouth when she comes to. "Fuck," she pants as she watches Jamie suck the come off his fingers. "That's hot."
"You're hot," Jamie retorts.
(Y/N) crashes her lips to Jamie's and she swears she tastes herself on his lips. She hums and moves so she's straddling Jamie's bulge. She reaches behind her and unclasps the bra she's wearing. She lets the fabric fall off her body before it joins the rest of the clothes on the floor. Jamie's hands are immediately cupping her breasts.
Jamie sits up and wraps one of his arms around her waist. The kiss breaks and he turns his attention to her chest. His free hand grasps one breast and his mouth is on the other. He plays with her nipple and she gasps. "God, Jamie," she breathes out. "Keep this up and I'm gonna come again before you even get inside of me."
"I'd be okay with making you come three times in less than an hour," Jamie tells her. He looks up at her with his eyes as he trails kisses from one boob to the other.
She smiles and shakes her head. "Needed you in me like yesterday, Jamie," she replies. He nips at her breast and she gasps. "Baby. Come on."
"Okay, okay," he laughs. He snaps the waistband of her ruined panties. "Get these off while I grab a condom."
With zero hesitation, she falls off his lap onto her back. She lifts her hips up to pull off the panties. As she throws them to the ground, Jamie grabs a tiny silver package out of his wallet. He tears it open with his teeth as he pushes his boxers off his body. She watches as he slides its contents on his dick.
Jamie comes back over to her and crawls on top of her. She notices the layer of sweat that has formed on his forehead. She can't help but smile.
That smile quickly falters as Jamie runs the tip of his dick through her folds. "Jamie," she breathes out. "Please. Please, baby."
She wraps her legs around his waist and digs her heels into the back of his thighs. Jamie kisses her jaw and mumbles, "So beautiful like this. All mine."
(Y/N)'s smile returns as Jamie slowly slides himself into her. She wraps her arms around his neck and lets out a soft sigh as he lets her adjust to his size. It has been a month since they've had sex.
Jamie bottoms out in her and doesn't move so she can adjust. She's also extremely impatient so she rolls her hips against him. "Fuck, (Y/N)," Jamie breathes out.
"Move, Jamie," she pleads. "I swear to God-"
He slams into her so hard it makes her dizzy. "I told you that I have you," he tells her. "So fucking needy for me."
Jamie rolls his hips into her slowly but deeply. "So fucking needy for you, Jamie baby," she echoes. "Fuck."
He must use that as motivation because his pace quickens.
She's so overwhelmed by how good it feels that she nearly blacks out. She's a moaning mess beneath Jamie, and she wouldn't have it any other way.
Jamie's lips reattach to her neck and she whines.
Sex with Jamie is never the same twice, and that's what she loves most about being in bed with him. She never knows what to expect. Tonight, she gets soft Jamie that moves and touches her like she's fragile. She gets the Jamie that makes sure she's taken care of first before he worries about his own needs.
She wants that to change though.
Without warning, (Y/N) pushes Jamie to the side and rolls on top of him. All without him slipping out of her. She sits up on his dick and he looks at her with wide eyes. "You lay there and look pretty," she tells him. "You played an entire hockey game tonight. Gonna take care of you. Gonna make you feel good."
"Shit," Jamie breathes out as she begins to roll her hips. She smiles as Jamie squirms underneath her.
It's not often when she takes control in the bedroom, but she knows Jamie loves it whenever she does because of how rare it is. She loves to surprise him.
His hands rest on her waist and he helps her keep her pace. Her hands are on his torso. Soft groans fall from her lips every time she lowers herself onto him.
Her hair creates a curtain around their faces when she leans down to get her lips on Jamie's neck. He fucks up into her and she moans against his skin.
"Feel so good around me," Jamie sighs. "So tight."
"Feels so good inside me," she mumbles. "Make me come again, Jamie."
Jamie sneaks a hand between them and takes the sensitive bud between his fingers. He plays with her clit and she cries out from the slight oversensitivity. She cries out in pleasure.
"Come for me again, baby," Jamie rasps in her ear. "Come on my cock like a good girl. You want to make me feel good? Come for me."
That's the first time Jamie has talked to her like that and it's so hot.
Her second orgasm hits her harder than the first. She cries out right near Jamie's ear as she clenches around him. She has a fistful of the pillow under Jamie's head as her orgasm rips through her entire body.
She collapses on top of Jamie with a loud groan.
At some point, Jamie came inside the condom inside of her. When she comes to, her entire body is shaking and Jamie is tying off the used condom and throwing it into the trash.
"I'm gonna need you to talk to me like that more often," she pants. "Holy shit, Jamie."
"Not too much?"
"Definitely not too much."
༺═──────────────═༻
The next morning comes way too early for (Y/N). Light is coming in through the large window that overlooks the strip. Jamie is already up and looking at her when she opens her eyes.
He smiles and mumbles, "Good morning." He nuzzles at her jaw and she laughs.
"Watching me sleep is so Edward Cullen of you," she comments as Jamie leaves soft kisses to her jaw. "But good morning."
"Team is doing breakfast before we pack up and head back to Anaheim," he tells her. "They said you're welcome to join us. Just be prepared for the comments I'm going to get when I show up to the table in the suit I was wearing yesterday."
She smiles and backs up so she can look at him. He looks so pretty in the rising sunlight. "I'll give it right back to them so you better be ready for that," she replies. "Anyway, I'm hungry. Let's go."
Without warning, she jumps out of bed. She finds one of the sports bras she packed and throws that on. She puts on one of her Ducks hockey shirts that Jamie gave her as well as a pair of shorts. She puts her hair up in a messy bun before she turns and looks at Jamie.
He's buttoning the shirt all the way up to the collar. She walks up to him and swats his hands away. "Leave these undone," she tells him as she undoes the first few buttons. "It's hot."
Jamie shakes his head as she grabs the key card from the floor. He taps her ass on the way out the door and she squeals in reply. She does get her revenge in the elevator.
The entire Ducks roster looks over at Jamie and (Y/N) as they walk into the little dining area. Conversations die out when they make their appearance and they see how disheveled Jamie looks.
Trevor is sitting at a table with Mason, Leo, Frank, and Rico. He ends up standing up and starts a round of applause that the entire team joins in on. "He survived!"
She looks up and sees Jamie's face is tomato red. She smiles and shakes her head before heading toward the food. "Barely," is all she says in reply.
"Oh shit," Mason says. Trevor's jaw drops as Jamie follows right behind (Y/N) to get something to eat.
She bets Jamie is wishing they just ordered some room service or something with the way his teammates congratulate him and tease him because he had sex.
She loves watching them tease him though. It's like they're one big happy family and she's glad that Jamie has them.

I've been in a bit of a dosh mood recently so here's another quick dosh fic with some Christmas tree shopping
After the Enchante ad for the pop-up bus is filmed and set to be released – a feat that they had been able to do within just a day, or rather a few hours – Daniel is quick to get on another plan and head somewhere colder than New York City.
Normally, Daniel would do his best to avoid going cold places. He’d actively run from them and try to get out of commitments that would take him towards them, but these days, he finds himself seeking out the cold. Not for the winter weather or anything like that, but for the warmth it gives him in the shape of an NFL quarterback laying atop him in bed or cuddling him on the sofa.
Most of his friends think he’s foolish for trading the likes of Monaco and Los Angeles for Buffalo, but none of them get to see how Josh lights up every time Daniel tells him that he’ll be in New York and is thinking of heading further north. None of them get to be carried by Josh and kept warm. He hates the cold, but Daniel is coming to quickly learn that he loves Josh much more than he could ever hate the weather. What are low temperatures in comparison to a lover’s embrace?
Within three hours of finishing all the work for the ad, Daniel is on Josh’s doorstep. His rental is parked next to Josh’s truck, filled with minimal luggage that could be brought in later. For now, his only concern is getting into the warm home, as such, he finally has use of the key Josh had pressed into his hands just a few months earlier. Normally, Josh was always by Daniel’s side, never giving him reason to use the key that Daniel had carried from country to country with him since he’d gotten it.
“Honey, I’m home!” Daniel calls out, always wanting to yell that out when he comes home.
“Daniel?” Josh questions, rushing to the entryway from wherever in the house he had been. Daniel presumes that Josh has just returned from practice given he’s wearing the team shirts. “What? How?”
“We finished filming and editing today,” Daniel replies, “thought we could do that Christmas decorating before you had to leave.”
They’d only talked about it in what-ifs and maybes, unsure if their schedules would allow it. But now, Daniel had free reign of his schedule and no expectations of him spending the few weeks between Abu Dhabi and Christmas in Europe.
“Yeah?” Josh asks, lighting up just as he always did when they were together and one of their plans would work out.
“Yeah,” Daniel agrees. He could stand the cold Buffalo nights for that face.
_____________
“We could come during a warmer day,” Josh says, as he lays in bed watching Daniel put on his third layer of clothing – all before the big winter coat was to be put on.
“Does Buffalo have warmer days?” Daniel questions knowing that the answer is no. Blake, Max, and Scotty had all warned him about just how cold Buffalo could get when Josh first started coming around and then again when everyone noticed that Josh wasn’t going to be leaving anytime soon if he had a say in it. And for good measure, a third time when Daniel happily told them about the key Josh had given him.
“Not really,” Josh replies.
Every year, Josh gets his tree from the same local Christmas tree farm. It’s a bit of a drive, but according to Josh, it is completely worth it.
The previous week’s snow hadn’t completely melted yet, causing it to glisten underneath the string lights the farm’s owners had put up and the moonlight. “How big are we thinking?” Daniel questions. A few people are milling around, but none of them pay much attention to Josh and Daniel.
“9 feet?” Josh suggested, wrapping his arm around Daniel, who despite multiple warm layers was still shivering in the cold night air. Smiling up at Josh, Daniel nods. Josh’s house had more than enough space for a large tree and Daniel had an idea of how they could get the ornaments, lights, and the star on. It involved him climbing Josh, something that he liked doing a lot and often.
Under twinkling lights and cold winds, they make their way through the farm – judging each tree as they go. They were good trees, great even, but none of them were perfect. Daniel wanted a perfect tree. It was to be the first of hopefully many Christmas trees they would be buying, so it had to be perfect – there were standards to be set.
“Mistletoe,” Josh notes when they get closer to the end of the tree selection. Glancing up, Daniel sees that there’s mistletoe hanging. Wrapping his arms around Josh’s neck, he pulls the taller man down just slightly to kiss him.
That’s when Daniel spots the perfect tree.
It’s tall and wide because the circumference also matters when choosing a good tree. And unlike some of the earlier trees that they’d seen, it’s got a ton of branches and needles, making it look very full. It’s a balsam fir that’s at least three feet taller than Josh. “That one,” Daniel says.
“It’s perfect,” Josh agrees, calling over one of the workers to prepare it for travel. “Our first tree together,” Josh says as Daniel leans in for another kiss.

Fish Out of Water (Part One)
Tw: Cursing, Vivid Descriptions of Gore
Four years. It had been four years since that day when Cordelia's life changed forever.
Cordi sat on the same beach where she was found as an infant. She was shaking; her knees tucked into her chest as she stared out at the crystal blue waters of Honolulu. She was looking at her hands.
How did I do that? She thought, remembering all the bottles and faucets exploding in her foster mom's rental property.
Tears welled up in Cordelis's eyes, "I-I didn't mean to-" she said in a quiet shakey voice.
When it happened, she grabbed her bag and ran. She had no idea where she was running but always seemed to find herself at that same beach. She could still hear the police sirens in the distance.
Her face still stung from where her foster mom slapped her; her throat was still sore from screaming.
I didn't mean to hurt her, I just got so mad
Just an hour ago her foster mother had yelled at her for some reason, honestly, Cordi couldn't remember.
What happened next would live in her nightmares for the rest of her life.
"I didn't mean to kill her," Cordi whispered to herself, letting the tears fall.
Somehow, she made her foster mom's blood boil. Literally. She remembered how fast she started to sweat. How fast her skin turned red, like a freshly steamed lobster. Cordelia will never be able to get the image of her foster mom's head exploding out of her mind. She wanted to throw up. She tried to run away, but she was on an island.
She thought about swimming but where to? She was a strong swimmer but not strong enough to cross the Pacific. She put her head in her hands and cried.
This is it. I'm going to spend the rest of my life in prison for an accident.
All of a sudden, she heard footsteps approaching. She looked up and was treated by a middle-aged man wearing a fishing hat. He sat down beside her.
"Been a long day?' He asked, he seemed so familiar but Cordi couldn't place it.
"Yeah, long day"
"It will get better, Cordelia." He said with a warm smile.
"How did you-" Cordelia was cut off by the strange and familiar man.
"Cordelia. Beautiful name. Daughter of the Sea. It's fairly fitting, wouldn't you agree?" He said as he gazed out at the crashing waves.
Cordi remained silent.
"I have a task for you, Cordelia." He reached into his vest pocket and pulled out a necklace and an envelope.
"I need you to take this to my son, Percy Jackson, in Manhattan." He handed her the envelope. It was sealed with deep blue wax stamped with a trident. "This will lead you to him. It will glow the closer you are." He also handed her the necklace. It was a sliver chain with a blue crystal.
"Manhattan?! That's like 5,000 miles away?! How am I supposed to get there?" Cordi asked.
The strange man continued, "There's a boat leaving for Los Angeles in 4 hours. Get on it. Once you're there, you will take a bus. Do not fly. The skies aren't kind. Stay near the water, if you need help, it will come to your aid. Percy will answer all of your questions."
The police sirens intensified. "What about the cops? Won't they come for me?" She asked, not sure why she trusted this man, but she did. There was something about him that made her believe that she had to go on this cross-country mission.
"Oh don't worry about them. I will take care of it." He handed her some cash that just happened to appear in his vest pocket.
"Don't forget. Find Percy, tell him that his father sent you. Good luck child." He got up without a second word and walked into the waves.

DONT TALK ABOUT THE JACKIE ME AND THIS LADY TOUR THATS WHAT IM SENSITIVE ABOUT
I should never be trusted to drive a vehicle of any kind; not because I am a lousy driver, but because I tighten my grip of the wheel with every passing truck. I look in the newspaper every day for that one headline of a car crash where they simply don’t know what happened. Maybe the driver lost control of the car. Suffered a seizure. Was trying to dodge a child running across the street. Something to explain why his car and insides ended up painting the front of a Canadian frozen goods truck on its way from Montreal to Detroit.
I drove from Portland to Los Angeles once. It was a pleasant trip, heading south, the air getting warmer and the people more tanned. It took me four days to drive because I kept getting distracted and took a small detour in Nevada where I got drunk as hell with a guy who had worked as a circus clown all of his life. We were exactly alike, me and him. It’s easy to distract me because I never know what I should be paying attention to. Is it a new guitar model, the glimpse of something better and more dignified, a pair of brown eyes that always amplified the smile on perfectly shaped lips? During my West Coast road trip, I lost count of the times I saw an oncoming car and considered twisting the wheel to the left. Crash. Bang. Smoke.
I don’t know if anyone else has these thoughts when they drive. I’ve never asked. When I crashed the tour bus back in ’74, I found myself wondering if it was on purpose or not. I didn’t mean to do it, but maybe I subconsciously wanted to.
For a while, we thought Joe would never walk again.
Now I’m driving in a Chevy rental, navigating from O’Hare to an address scribbled on a napkin in messy handwriting that isn’t mine. The car is brown, a light brown that resembles baby shit. It was the only one they had left. The wipers make a wheezing sound as they try to battle away the heavy, wet snowfall.
“Are you nervous?”
I don’t bother looking at the kid on the passenger seat. “No.”
“Brent said,” he begins, launching into yet another lie someone has said about me. People love to talk and talk and talk about me, “that, during Jackie, you were so nervous that you got drunk before every show.”
“He flatters me,” I note, annoyed that this one isn’t a lie at all – the only way I could deal with the pressure of a ten thousand-headed crowd was alcohol. Thanks, Brent, that one will make me look good. No. It will make me look like a victim. Maybe that’s a good thing.
“He also said that it got better during the second leg. You drank less, were more focused. You know, after you met him,” he points out obnoxiously. I resist the urge to steer the car off the road just to shut him up, and when he takes in his dying breath, mouthing an anguished ‘Why?’, I’ll tell him why: because he couldn’t hold his damn tongue. The white snow turns an ugly shade of traffic fume black when it hits the ground, making the surface of the road slippery, but I keep us on the road for now. “Now Gabe. He said that you were never nervous during the Pearl tour. I suppose you changed.”
“You love the sound of your own voice, huh?”
“Yup,” he beams, light brown locks falling in front of his enthusiastic eyes. He has got a young, good-natured face he tries to mature with stubble, but it’s still irrevocably made childlike by the bright energy that’s always there in his words and actions. He’s got slightly hollow cheeks and narrow line-like lips, and a forehead just a fraction tall enough to look like a mismatch. I concentrate on driving, and he falls silent for a while. When he speaks, he sounds troubled. “What if he’s forgotten? Or what if he’s still mad at you?”
“What if I’m still mad at him?”
“You’re not,” he says knowingly. I hate it when he’s right. The snowfall is slowing down, and I shift in my seat uncomfortably and feel the seatbelt scraping the side of my neck. “I’m nervous for you,” he concludes, the excitement now back. I don’t need his nerves, support or shoulder to cry on. He has no idea how much his enthusiasm wears me out. He looks at the map in his lap. “Take the next left,” he commands, and I change lanes. “You know, I wonder what he’s like. I’ve heard so much about him. It’s slightly surreal to meet a stranger that you’ve pictured naked a dozen times. Well, actually, I found this one picture in your house where he was in the nude, so –”
I pull up to the curb, coming to a fast stop. He tenses up, eyes wild as he looks around. “What are you doing?”
“I’ve told you not to touch my fucking stuff,” I say again. Again. The nosy little bastard. “Here, your stop,” I tell him and point out of his window to a shop door that has green, cursive letters: C-A-F-É. “Go get yourself coffee.” Like he needs to be more hyper.
His mouth drops open dramatically. “I’m coming with you!”
I grit my teeth and smile. “No, you’re not.” I glare at him, and he glares back. “Out, Sisky! Out!”
Sisky throws his hands up into the air. “You’re seriously not letting me witness the reunion that would make Romeo and Juliet seem like –”
“There was no reunion for those two – they died.”
“Oh.” Sisky pulls on his bottom lip uncertainly, but recovers quickly. “I never finished the movie, truth be told. They spoke English in such a weird way.”
I unbuckle myself and get out of the car. Chicago is cold, snowflakes landing on my black coat and melting into it. I round the Chevy and open Sisky’s door.
“Okay, okay!” the kid shouts, lifting up his hands. “I’m out! See! Look at how out I am!” He scrunches his nose at the cold, looking more comic than hurt as he shoots me a nasty look.
“I’ll come get you later,” I promise.
“If you don’t, I know where he lives!” He has taken out his black leather notebook and is scribbling in it furiously, completely ignoring the sleet.
I stop at my open door and give him a disbelieving look. “Don’t take notes now.”
“As the infamous Ryan Ross nervously re-entered the car, dumping his devoted and loyal companion by the side of the road like yet another groupie he had loved then abandoned like an unwanted kitten –”
I don’t hear the rest as the door slams shut and I take off. Sisky’s reflection sulks into the café in the rear-view mirror, and I glance at the map on his now empty seat. It doesn’t take me long to get where I’m going.
The car on the driveway is black and classy, this year’s model, a ‘79. It’s much more tasteful than what I park in front of the house, and for a wild moment, I hope none of the Chicagoans living on Brendon’s street notice the has-been rock star arriving in such a tacky excuse of four tyres and a wheel. If it is Brendon’s house, which I have my doubts about. A young man with a guitar case is coming down the street, and I wait for him to pass. It’s paranoia to fear he’d recognise me, but I never did know what to say to the fans to begin with.
Music is not about the man behind it, and therefore any interest people have in me is unwarranted. All they need to know, all they should want to know, is already there in the music. And no one ever understood that apart from me. They never –
But I don’t want to think about it anymore.
I take my bag to the door with me. It’s presumptuous, but with the final shows being local, I’m assuming Brendon is staying at home. I shouldn’t assume anything when it comes to him. I learned that the hard way.
The door opens on the fifth ring.
“Ye –”
The rest of Brendon’s sentence fades away as his eyes land on me. Brendon looks a little older, which makes me realise how overdue I am. He has a slightly off look that comes with his line of work, bags under his brown eyes. I would know how that life throws anyone off balance. But if anything, he looks more like a man, more mature. He keeps doing that to me. I don’t mind.
“Heard you’re shacking up in Chicago now,” I explain and state it like a fact I have as much interest in as the heart rate of a mouse, the melting point of silver. None at all.
“Yeah,” he nods tiredly, eyes averting, the cornered prey after an exhausting hunt where he is the deer and I am the wolf. After a long, long time, neither one of us seems to be running. Brendon doesn’t look surprised to see me. I am not a predictable man; he could at least gasp a little. The tiniest bit. Just to amuse me. I’m fucking surprised that I’m here.
“So much for being old friends,” I note and don’t give him a chance to reply. “Invite me in for a beer.”
Brendon shakes his head. “I’m busy.”
Sisky was right. He is still mad.
“I’m busy too, but here I am anyway.”
I stare him down. My stomach curls up now that I am in his presence, but he doesn’t sense it.
Brendon sighs and holds the door open, and I step into the living room, throw my bag onto the couch. Being here, travelling across the country for the one guy, the only guy who ever came out to look at the night sky with me and invent new constellations, and I – Fucking hell. I will stand my ground and act my best to convince myself that it means nothing to me. I lick my lips, remember what he tastes like.
“One beer, but then I have to go,” Brendon mutters and heads for the kitchen, and I stare after him quietly. He slows down and turns back around, a hesitating look on his face. “Are you coming to the show tonight?”
“I was counting on it.”
He looks straight at me, and I am right back there in Ottawa, outside Civic Center where we kissed next to the tour bus that I had not yet smashed. I’m in the cabin up in Bismarck where I handed him some part of me that he politely declined. I’m in San Francisco picking a fight with him, in New York watching him go through records he doesn’t plan on buying as he sneaks glances at me working behind the counter, and then we are on the backroom floor, hoping to god Eric doesn’t come early for his shift. Brendon says, “I can get you a backstage pass.”
“Could you get two? I came with this kid.”
“What kid?” His voice is tense.
“My stalker.”
He makes a disbelieving ‘tut’ with his tongue. “You sure know how to pick your friends.”
“And lovers, though he’s not one of those,” I say calculatedly.
Brendon doesn’t deny that that’s what he was asking. “I can get two.”
“Thanks.”
He points at my bag. “You staying here tonight?”
“Sure,” I shrug. He nods nervously and heads for the kitchen.
I have swerved my car onto his lane, and we have collided yet again.
Crash.
Bang.
Smoke.

Chapter 12 of Roneo and Kimliet
Chapter 12
(Friday, Feb. 9, 2006, 3:45pm)
"Well, I'm glad that's overwith!" Kim exclaimed, stretching her arms as she, Ron, and Monique all exited Middleton High one last time this week. While Kim and Monique were in their signature baggy Club Banana dark-denim overalls with both straps hooked with yellow and pink croptops respectively, Ron was in his usual outfit.
"Another school week of toil in the books!" Ron exclaimed, "I cannot suffer through another quiz boring 19th-century book by some long-dead obscure author in English Lit anymore!"
"You thinkin' what I'm thinkin' you two after a lot of tests?" Monique asked.
Both Kim and Ron replied, "Bueno Nacho!"
"OTN! On the nose!" Monique exclaimed with her famed Monique-speak. She got out her bicycle helmet as did both Kim and Ron. They had taken bikes to school in lieu of the bus all week long, though Ron had his share of scrapes on his knees.
(4:19pm)
The trio ride their bikes to Bueno Nacho, for it also had a bike rack near the entrance. Once they managed to lock their bikes to the rack, they went inside.
Ron got his standard Naco Night order, Kim had the usual taco salad with Caesar on the side, and Monique had the same thing Ron had.
"So what is going to be the first thing on the list for this weekend?" Kim asked while getting out a sheet of paper.
"Well...the usual rental tree costume from the costume shop downtown." Ron said, "And this time, it will have a zipper in the front and not in the back."
"Okay...one rental tree costume." Kim said before she added.
"Oh yeah, I also need to add in the fact that JP Bearymore had just recently added a Zombie Mayhem II machine in the arcade! And it is bon-diggety badical!"
"And a box of tissues."
"What for?" Monique wondered.
"That I'll prove to the Glee Three that we will pull off the best Romeo and Juliet so hard that they are going to be crying at the end of the performance!" Kim insisted. "Hence the tissue boxes."
"We got that added to the list." Ron said, "What else do we need?"
"Maybe some aspirin in time to handle the headaches for Mom's parents' anniversary." Kim suggested, "Seventeen cousins is so hard to keep track of over a weekend, thank you very much!" She also kept in mind some of the weirdness of those cousins that would make even Larry look sane.
Then, the Kimmunicator beep began to sound.
Instinctively, Kim got the Kimmunicator out of her overall side pocket.
"Hey, Wade! What's the sitch?"
Wade explained the reason for the beep-in.
"Hey, Kim. You got a hit on the site from Professor Acari."
"Acari...the bug-expert guy!" Kim guessed.
"Mind if I patch you through to his message?" Wade requested.
"Please and thank you!" Kim replied with a smile. Wade typed rapidly on his computer to access the video to one of Acari's insectariums.
"Good evening, Miss Possible! I definitely would need your help at my insectarium on the outskirts of Los Angeles. There is something of great importance that I need to show you!"
"So we're gonna visit the insect guy again after what happened with the tick bomb thing Drakken had on your nose, KP?" Ron asked.
"Most definitely so, Ron." came Kim's reply.
Ron shuddered, "Insects! I so cannot stand insects!"
"Even a harmless ol' ladybug?" Monique asked.
"My issues with them stretch back further than Wannaweep, Monique!" Ron said. "Even within the Stoppable abode, my hate of those blood-sucking insects runs very deep!"
Kim sighed before saying to Wade, "Can you give us a ride?"
"Working on it right now!" Wade insisted.
(1 hour later)
A Global Justice craft picked up Team Possible as they headed en route for Los Angeles. Both im and Ron, of course, were now in their mission outfits.
Agent Flynn Cognito was flying the craft. Kim was in the co-pilot.
"Thanks for the lift, Agent Cognito!" Kim said in a nice voice.
"It's the least I can do since you save me on that mission in Switzerland last month!" Agent Cognito replied.
"It's no big! A little help from my hot curling iron that can melt snow, duct tape, and a rope would do the job." Kim said before turning on the Kimmunicator.
Ron, in the meantime, was stuck between two buff male Global Justice agents.
"Uhh...little help here?" he exclaimed.
There was also one other mission that was also nagging at Kim's mind.
"Wade, has there been any update from the thefts at the Louvre?"
"I was able to pull off something from the henchmen's shirts." Wade said as he pulled up the security photo on the Kimmunicator.
Kim looked at it and said, "Looks like some sort of code. Can you try and analyze it?"
"I can do, but it may take me between 24 to 36 hours." Wade replied, "I'll give you an update once the analysis is complete! And by the way, you should be over LA right about...now!"
"You analytically rock, Wade!" Kim grinned as she put away the Kimmunicator and activated her jetpack and infrared goggles.
"Let's jet, Ron!" she exclaimed.
"Right behind ya, KP!" Ron replied as he got unstuck from being in-between the Global Justice agents. He too activated his jetpack.
"Ready for this, Rufus?" he then asked the naked mole rat.
Rufus, from Ron's pants pocket, put on his goggles. "Ready!" he squeaked excitedly.
Team Possible jumped out of the plane. The 10,000 feet ride went smoothly for Kim as she landed on the ground. For Ron, however, he spun in a variety of circles and triangles in the air. Rufus squeaked in horror and closed his eyes. Fortunately, for the both of them, they landed on the ground.
"Well, that wasn't one of my worst landings." Ron replied.
"I'd give you a medal for it, Ron!" Kim chuckled a little before Professor Acari came to her, along with a couple of his assistants.
"I'm glad you can make it, Miss Possible!" Acari replied with glee.
"It's no big, Professor!" Kim laughed, "I'm glad we recovered the robotic tick back to you after Drakken nearly blew off my nose in freshman year."
Ron shuddered, "KP, you do know I still have tick issues..."
"What's with your sidekick?" Acari asked, pointing to Ron.
"Bad summer camp experience, don't ask to him." Kim suggested.
"Anywho, I should take you and my assistants to my insectarium." Acari replied, "There, you can see why I contacted your site!"
