Outkast’s Big Boi, EDM artist Zedd, U.K. band Nothing But Thieves, Norwegian artist Aurora, rapper Hanumankind, guitarist-composer Cory Wong will perform in Mumbai on March 8 and 9, 2025
Anurag Tagat Sep 10, 2024
American punk-rock heroes Green Day, pop artist Shawn Mendes, U.K. hitmakers Glass Animals and singer-songwriter Louis Tomlinson are among top-billed acts making their India debut at Lollapalooza India 2025 in Mumbai, between March 8 and 9.
The lineup for the third edition of Lollapalooza India also includes rap veteran Big Boi from Outkast, U.K. band Nothing But Thieves, Norwegian pop artist Aurora, electronic artists like Zedd, John Summit and Alok, American guitarist-composer Cory Wong (known for his work with acts like Vulfpeck), breakout rapper Hanumankind (also our latest cover star), South Korean indie rock band Wave To Earth and rising pop artists Isabel LaRosa and more. Folk-indie singer-songwriter duo Lullanas – comprising Indian-origin siblings – will also make their India debut at Lollapalooza India 2025.
More Indian artists adding heft to the lineup include singer-songwriter Dot., rappers Raftaar and KR$NA, Punjabi artist Talwiinder, sitarist and fusion artist Niladri Kumar, pop artist Lisa Mishra, rock artist Raman Negi, Ahmedabad rap favorite Dhanji, producer Spryk, pianist-composer Sahil Vasudeva, DJ-producer Anushka, multi-instrumentalist-producer Sid Vashi, singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle and indie multi-instrumentalist/producer Sudan.
The announcement in September makes for meme-friendly news for Green Day, known for songs like “Wake Me Up When September Ends.” The band announced their India debut on Instagram and said, “Another first for us!! India, you’ve been calling our name… and it’s finally time to answer. We’ll see you in Mumbai next March for @LollaIndia.” The trio comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool released their most recent album Saviors in 2024 and will likely dig into all-time hits like “Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life),” “American Idiot,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and more. Shawn Mendes, known for hits “In My Blood,” “Treat You Better” and new single “Why Why Why,” returns to the live stage after more than two years on his current tour, which includes Lollapalooza India.
Louis Tomlinson, who has a big following in India following his time with pop group One Direction, will also make a long-awaited India debut. Fellow Brits Glass Animals are a big draw on the back of releasing their new album I Love You So F***ing Much in July, but primarily due to their 2020 hit “Heat Waves,” which was the seventh-most streamed song in India on Spotify in 2022.
Glass Animals founder Dave Bayley – who visited India as a 16-year-old – told Rolling Stone India in 2020, “Thank you for the support, I hope you are staying safe and healthy. We can’t wait to come and visit.”
In a wholly new strategy, Lollapalooza India’s 2025 lineup is out six months in advance of the multi-genre festival taking place in March. BookMyShow Live also took a similar approach while announcing the lineup for their festival Bandland, which is taking place on Nov. 23 and 24 in Bengaluru.

Hi Gina! First of all I'm really glad that we have people like you, Sabine and just so many other Larrie blogs ( btw autocorrect kept correcting Larrie to married 🤣) who are the voice of reason in this fandom considering just how insane it gets on almost a daily basis ( I love it though 😝) and I love you guys for being here. I was an anti earlier but I realised that Larries are so fucking sensible and the proofs make so much sense. So it's basically the stupidity and illogical reasoning of antis that turned me into a Larrie.
Anyway I got diverted but I was looking at this picture of David Dawson (https://www.tumblr.com/srldesigns6277/761361440984678400/stylesnews-harry-and-david-at-the-my-policeman?source=share) and I realised just how much he looks like Louis. The delicate built, his height, cheekbones and just generally appearance wise his physical traits kind of remind of Louis. Do you think it could be intentional? Like because of what people were saying about Louis stepping in for some scenes during COVID or just generally because how it's not a secret within the industry? Or do you think it's just a coincidence. I have not read the book. Does it have to do something with the way both the characters are described in the book? That's again such a coincidence considering it matches H&L.
Also, I just want to add that I'm from India and I'm sooooo excited that Louis is going to be performing in India for the first time at Lollapalooza. It's such a huge deal and I really hope he gets recognized more because India is a huge market and it will benefit his career so much. But otherwise also it is emotionally so overwhelming for Indian Louies because he kept his promise and we've waited for a very very long time 🥹
God, Harry looked so good at the premiere. But, yes, David's very similar to Louis in terms of build and delicate features. I really doubt the director cast him because he was similar to Louis. I remember him saying that he'd worked with David before, so I think it would have had more to do with him being right for the role. And I'm sure they did some sort of chemistry read between him and Harry. Maybe that worked well for Harry because he is similar to Louis, but I don't know.
I truly don't think Louis stepped in for any scenes. That theory makes absolutely zero sense. As far as him being like the character in the book, I can't remember his description now, but it did need to be someone older who had an air of sophistication to him. So, in that way, he was perfect. But Tom in the book was blonde and beefy, so... I think the director just went for who was right for the role.
And I'm super excited for you guys in India. I hope you have so much fun.

You are saying LT3 will come in 2025??? Oh god nooooooo!! I don’t want to see this man on my tl again. Ofc his fans think with the Lollapalooza India performance in March next year he’ll release the album around then. If Walls and FITF took 3 years to make I thought he would release his next album maybe around 2026/27 or in my case NEVER! Cause we all know he doesn’t write his own songs without help and he specially doesn’t work or write while he is touring or working like Harry does. He can only focus on one thing at a time and when touring he needs all the focus on his squawking vocals to stay intact.
Hopefully it won't be out until 2026 but if it arrives late 2025 I won't be surprised.

I feel like the reason why people are pointing to JM akgaes is because there are more people in the current process of becoming JM akgaes, because the breaking point for a bunch of superbiased Jimin-biased Jikookers was the Face v. 7 comparison. Felt like this 'turnover' point for KTH akgaes from Tkkrs was 2017-18. The mistreatment rhetoric was everywhere and even today the Burn the Stage documentary is the holy grail of mistreatment for KTHs.
I wanted to ask you, BPP, what do you make of V's reduced streaming numbers in USA? I was surprised. Does this represent Army's true power with JM / JK's numbers being an additional cherry on top (or whole sundae on top) because of GP / casuals / solos ; or is this a sign of the 'split focus' so-called OT7s with a bias towards members who are central to BTS' image in the USA; or have KTHs done permanent damage to goodwill among Army?
I know you're not V biased but if you have a breakdown to offer I would be greatly interested. (Vminimin bias here).

Ngl, this reminds me of the discourse about the difference in streaming performance between JITB and Indigo, where RM's streaming numbers were more than Hobi's in the US (and globally). Hobi akgaes thought it was weird considering Hobi had just done Lollapalooza and had a huge turnout. Just like back then, people discounted just how much the fandom shows that everyone here really just does what they want, how people's music preferences show up in their streaming habits, and they aren't coerced to stream like mindless orangutans in the fandom. Tae's album, just like Hobi's album, is really good, but it's also not in a genre a lot of people find accessible, very enjoyable, and can withstand streaming incessantly.
Look at the difference in streams between Yet to Come and RUN BTS.
All that aside, my perception is that the maknae-line have many people who bias them from the USA, but far as I can tell, Jimin has the most dedicated fans in the US, UK and Korea + Japan; Jungkook in the US, India, France and Japan; and Taehyung in China, SEA, and to a lesser degree, Japan and the US. I recall I've seen a few surveys here and there a few years ago (before 2019) that showed popularity rankings in various regions, but those rankings are no longer reliable as they've been gamed to hell by akgaes (usually Taehyung solos based on the instances and call-outs I've seen).
So, coupled with the fact not a lot of people care to constantly stream V's sleepy, vibey, but admittedly tasteful album because it's not their taste, it's also possible Taehyung has fewer heavily-biased fans in the US to compulsively stream his album, compared to Jimin or Jungkook. The fact any of the members show up on the charts at all is because of OT7 ARMYs, who have the absolute numbers to place the members high enough to chart even if each ARMY only contributes a handful of streams. Any group of akgaes who have been trying and failing to rechart on the most exclusive charts will tell you the same thing. It's literally a numbers game and ARMYs simply have the numbers.
Those who are biased generally push for the members they bias more, other factors like the genre and listenability of the song influences how the wider fandom responds, and the core of the fandom remains OT7 ARMYs who push each project in any case, and are the reason any of these projects can get those sort of recognitions to begin with.
These aren't comparisons that matter to me for any member, not for my biases and not for the maknae-line, because I do think they're unhelpful, generally very reductive, and only serve the purpose of inflating the egos of various akgaes who weaponize this data to show other members in the group are less deserving of their accomplishments and/or any support those members receive.
It's not like Tae's doing bad either lol.

why didn’t his team book him for more festival next year? 😭
seeing just the lollapalooza thing is a bit weird tbh. Like he’s gonna perform there and just disappear until he releases a new single?
but i can understand if it’s a way of him going to india and perform for his fans there.
I guess Louis’ team had to respond earlier to Lolla India since he’s one of the headliners. Yeah, you’re right. The logistics of a concert in India are easier at a festival than a whole tour leg, and the team can check out the live concert scene at that time.
I bet there are Louis events lined up for summer 2025. We’ll wait to find out what’s going to happen. The LT team definitely seem like they got a big chunk of time to do their own thing.
I’m also wondering whether BMG expanding their business in the USA has any bearing on Louis doing festivals here. (I guess we have to give up on Asia for now.)

Bridging Cultures Through Music: A 2023 Retrospective
Music has always been a powerful medium for breaking barriers and connecting people across the globe. In 2023, the music industry has once again proven its ability to transcend cultural and linguistic divides. From the pulsating beats of Latin music to the groundbreaking collaboration between K-pop giants, the world continues to come together through the universal language of music. In this retrospective, we explore how artists, festivals, and legendary figures have played a pivotal role in bridging cultures and creating a shared global rhythm.
Latin Songs: A Global Phenomenon
The meteoric rise of Latin songs in the global music scene exemplifies the genre's universal appeal. Artists like Bad Bunny, Maluma, and Karol G have brought the vibrant sounds of reggaeton, salsa, and bachata to international stages. Beyond the addictive beats, Latin music carries a cultural essence, blending traditional rhythms with modern flair. Tracks like "La Canción" and "Tusa" have topped charts in regions where Spanish isn’t the primary language, proving that music knows no boundaries.
Latin artists are not only topping streaming platforms but also headlining major global events. Their influence has extended into fashion, cinema, and even social activism. By merging their heritage with contemporary styles, they’ve made Latin music a cornerstone of the modern global music experience.
Lollapalooza India Lineup 2023: A Cultural Melting Pot
This year, Lollapalooza India Lineup 2023 became a landmark event for South Asia, bridging the gap between Western and Indian musical traditions. As one of the world's most iconic music festivals, Lollapalooza brought a mix of international superstars and Indian artists, creating a rich and diverse auditory experience. The lineup featured genres ranging from EDM to indie rock, illustrating the growing appetite for eclectic sounds in India.
The festival also showcased how music can bring different cultures together under one roof. Fans from various countries and backgrounds gathered to celebrate music as a unifying force. Performances by artists who infused local influences into their sets further emphasized the beauty of cultural fusion in music.
BTS and Blackpink: Redefining Global Pop
No discussion about cultural connectivity in music is complete without mentioning BTS and Blackpink. These K-pop icons have not only redefined pop music but have also built a bridge between East and West through their artistry. With BTS delivering messages of self-love and mental health awareness and Blackpink channeling empowerment and charisma, their music resonates with fans regardless of cultural backgrounds.
These artists have shattered records, from topping Billboard charts to selling out stadiums worldwide. Beyond their music, they have actively engaged with fans, known as ARMY and BLINK, creating communities that transcend nationality and language. The impact of their global reach extends far beyond music, influencing fashion, film, and even philanthropic efforts.
Michael Jackson’s First Song: A Timeless Reminder of Music’s Power
Even decades later, Michael Jackson’s first song, "Got to Be There," remains a testament to the power of music to connect with the human soul. The King of Pop’s legacy is a timeless reminder of how music can bridge gaps and inspire change. His influence can be seen in the works of countless artists, from his innovative music videos to his ability to blend diverse genres seamlessly.
Jackson’s artistry went beyond entertainment. He became a global cultural icon, using his platform to advocate for social change, unity, and love. His music continues to inspire new generations of artists, proving that the power of music is eternal.
Nipsey Hussle: Music as a Tool for Change
Nipsey Hussle was more than a musician; he was a community leader who used his platform to uplift others. Through his lyrics, Nipsey told stories of perseverance, ambition, and the challenges faced by marginalized communities. His music connected deeply with audiences, offering hope and inspiring action.
Nipsey’s activism extended beyond his art. He invested in community programs, advocated for economic empowerment, and championed education as a means of breaking systemic cycles. His legacy continues to remind us that music is not just about entertainment—it is a powerful tool for creating meaningful change and building bridges between people.
Conclusion
As we reflect on the music of 2023, it’s clear that its power to bridge cultures and connect people has never been stronger. From the global appeal of Latin songs to the cultural impact of BTS and Blackpink, and from transformative events like Lollapalooza India Lineup 2023 to the legacies of Michael Jackson and Nipsey Hussle, music continues to be a unifying force.

LOLLAPALOOZA vs TELOS TOUR
LOLLAPALOOZA vs TELOS TOUR Hi I finally am financially independent and the first thing I did was keep an eye on when Zedd will be performing in India Thankfully it's not far (March 2025) I have purchased the Lolla india Day1 (Zedd is in Day1) just to see him performing. Now I got to know that he is on tour in Bengaluru (I stay here) too. But the dates being so close I'd have to either pass on 1 of it.Can anyone tell if he'd play and perform the same sets on both in lollapalooza and his Telos tour?If so which one should I focus into attending? Also will we have a chance to meet and greet him in any of the 2 events (if so which)?
