the thing is though, if you look at the number of points between the first and second teams in the wsl over the last five seasons, there’s no more than 2 points in it. and the title went down to goal difference between city and chelsea last season
in the US the closest was 1 point
in germany no more than 7 points
in france no more than 9
compare that to Spain, it’s looking like it’s a minimum of 9 points between first and second over the same period. The highest gap being 24 points
to me, doesn’t that make the wsl the most competitive? regardless of who wins or personal opinion on quality of the teams, surely if the top two teams of the league have the same points on the last day, and the title goes down to goal difference, then that league is more competitive?
no one is disputing that Barça is the best women’s team in the world as it stands, but they also have way less competition in their domestic league over the course of a season
how does that make the wsl more competitive than the nwsl? 😂😂
i think you need to look up the dictionary definition of competitive once again because that’s not competitive my friend.
north carolina won the shield in 2019. 2020 was covid. portland thorns won in 2021. seattle reign won the shield in 2022. san diego wave won the shield last year, and orlando pride won it this year.
5 different winners in 5 consecutive years. now that’s competitive.
and who is arguing that liga f is more competitive than wsl? i certainly am not. so maybe re-read what i wrote 🙄
lol, nice coping strategy. but you forget that liga f has 16 teams, not 12.
rotation doesn’t help that much when you have the longest schedule of the top teams in europe and are playing more matches overall. not to mention international breaks (half of barça played in the olympics, world cup, etc.)
barça players are rested? 😂😂😂 and how can you have watched the first two months of barça’s season this year and called those guaranteed wins when they were mostly slogs?! 🙃 try again!

Team USA has their man?
The search for the next leader of the US Men's National team is over, as Mauricio Pochettino is the next man to try and send the US men's team to the top of the soccer world. The US dismissed Gregg Berhalter for the second time after a poor showing at Copa America, with the consensus from critics that they needed to make a big name hire.
The former Chelsea coach comes in with an impressive resumé, probably the best the US has ever seen. He is known for a high pressing 4-2-3-1 attacking style of play and development of young players, which does sound like a good change for the national team.
Pochettino started in La Liga with Espanyol back in 2009 where he dealt with reported financial restrictions but established a system from the youth academy to the senior team which drew praise.
He then made the move to Southampton in 2013 where he lead the team to an 8th place finish which was the Saints best finish and highest point total in several years.
2014 saw him move over to Totthenham, the move that really made him a big name coach. They were immediately in contention in 2015, finishing the season 3rd in the table. The following season they had a second place finish, another great finish for the squad. His best season was 2019, where the Spurs made the Champions League final but lost to Liverpool.
In 2021, Pochettino found himself at PSG which saw him lead the team to a French Super Cup win, loss in the Champions League semis to Manchester City, Coupe de France title and second place finish in the league by a single point behind the champions in Lille. He did get PSG the ligue1 title the very next season, though.
In 2023, he was back in the Premier League as the coach of Chelsea, immediately taking the team to the EFL cup final but lose to Liverpool. He had issues with management over strategy and squad management that did lead to his dismissal in May of 2024
Pochettino has coached many big name players, that have been very successful under him, some of them you may have heard of: Harry Kane, Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Messi just to name a few. Pochettino hasn't been officially named yet as their is an issue with his Chelsea contract that the US have to figure out first but I doubt it isn't one that wouldn't be solved soon.
So do you like the move to get Pochettino and his attacking style of play, working the ball out of the back trying to work passes into the box?
I appreciate you for reading...enjoy your day!

Official annoucement
Reinier Jesus loaned to Granda CF (La Liga 2).
The Brazilian attacking midfielder joined Real Madrid in January 2020 but has yet to make his debut with the first team. During the 2019/2020 season, he made 3 appearances for Real Madrid Castilla. Real Madrid then loaned him to Borussia Dortmund for two seasons, where he played 745 minutes across 39 matches, scoring once and providing one assist.
In 2022, he was loaned to Girona FC, where he logged 639 minutes in 18 matches, scoring 2 goals and delivering 1 assist. Last season, he was loaned out again, this time to Serie A side Frosinone Calcio. He started the season strongly but suffered an injury that prevented him from reclaiming his starting position. He accumulated 1108 minutes in 23 matches, scoring 3 goals and providing 3 assists. Frosinone ultimately finished 18th and was relegated to Serie B.
Good luck Reinier!

hello I am a new fan and I've been trying to follow things I hope I'm not bothering you. I was wondering why so many people were celebrating the title like that, I thought we only celebrated when we had a treble or the Champions League but we only have one title this year? Isn't it a bad year for a club like Barça? Or is it because it was hard before? Again sorry to ask!! I'm trying to become a fan and I'm trying to understand this team and also we are championsss!
Hii anon! No issue, I'm very happy to see you come into this big culers fam. So, this year, we've won two trophies : Supercopa d'España and just now, La Liga (the Spanish League). Actually, it's a solid year, especially since it's the first full one with Xavi as a coach. You could've thought we'd won treble every years in the 2010s era, but it isn't true; in 2013/2014, for example, we only won the Supercopa.
The reason we're celebrating so hard and it can seem a little pushed for a « simple league title » is because we're coming from afar. Before explaining this, let me just say: we're being dramatic and all saying this was hell, but bear in mind all clubs go through these bad times, it's part of the cycle of football, it's normal, and there's supporters of smaller clubs that have life far harder than us, having never seen their club play in the UCL nor ever dreamed to compete for the first places of their League. We're following a big club. We're lucky. So, keeping that in mind.
These last years we've known a bit of trouble - read: an utter public downfall - of the club on every area, on the pitch as in off it. It's been very rocky. To put it simply:
(Roma, UCL quarter final 2018 - Liverpool, UCL semi final 2019 - Bayern, UCL quarter final 2020. See how those happened back to back? Roma the beginning, Anfield the tipping point and by Bayern, I was so numb to it all I didn't really react to the 8-2.)
We also had a debt of 1 billion and a presi, Bartomeu, that was one of the worst this club has known and gave insane wages to players (some of which still remain today). So that's why those two trophies, and especially La Liga, mean a lot: winning La Liga means you've got a team that's dominant for a whole season over the championship. It's a long, hard, constructed effort that shows the value of your team and to win it means your team can hold it in the long run. It's not been easy, what with half of our starting 11 being injured during key games and the main squad barely playing together, but somehow we've done it, and that's why lots of us are ecstatic like that, and think this could be the beginning of coming back, eventually, to the European scene, and to win more trebles, God willing.
In conclusion,

Underneath the undertow (1/?)
I have no idea whether I will be able to update this frequently (stares at Txoria txori chapter 4 which is still not finished) but I have vampire!Unai living in my mind rent free now so yeah
Pairings: none for now, but eventually will be Unai/Pau Tags: vampire!AU, vampire!Unai; it's actually kind of a ... reflection of the football society (vampirism = anything you want to imagine in its place) Summary: Unai Emery, the first-ever vampire to manage an EPL club, was sacked from his Arsenal job in November 2019. Upon his return to La Liga, he reflects on the English experience (reminiscent of six traumatizing months spent in Spartak Moscow in 2012), and decides he will not let his vampirism stand in the way of his love for football. This, however, entails a lot of pain and repression.

Milsami Orhei vs Panevezys: 0 - 1

Lionel Messi
Lionel Andrés Messi Cuccittini (Rosario, Argentina, June 24, 1987), known as Leo Messi, is an Argentine soccer player who plays as a striker. Historical player of the Fútbol Club Barcelona, he is currently a free agent after ending his contract with Paris Saint-Germain of Ligue 1 in France. He is also an international with the Argentina team, a team of which he is captain.
Often considered the best player in the world and one of the best of all time,[9] he is the only footballer in history to have won, among other distinctions, seven Ballon d'Or awards, seven FIFA awards for best player of the world, six Golden Boots and two Golden Balls of the Soccer World Cup. In 2020, he became the first soccer player and the first Argentine to receive a Laureus award and was included in the Ballon d'Or Dream Team.
With Barcelona he has won 35 titles, including ten in La Liga, four in the UEFA Champions League and seven in the Copa del Rey.
A prolific scorer, he holds, among others, the records for the most goals in a season, [10] in the same club and in a calendar year. He is also the all-time top scorer for Barcelona and the Argentine team, in La Liga, the Spanish Super Cup, the European Super Cup and the non-European player with the most goals in the UEFA Champions League.
Born and raised in the city of Rosario, at the age of 13 he settled in Spain, where Barcelona agreed to pay for treatment of the hormonal disease he had been diagnosed with as a child. After rapid progression through the Barcelona Youth Academy, he made his official first-team debut in October 2004, aged seventeen. Despite being injury prone early in his career, as early as 2006 he established himself as a pivotal player for the club. His first uninterrupted campaign was the 2008-09 season, in which Barcelona reached the first treble in Spanish football. Due to his style of playing as a small left-handed dribbler, [11] he was soon compared to compatriot Diego Maradona who, in 2007, declared him his "successor".
In 2009, at the age of twenty-two, he won his first Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year award. Three successful seasons followed, in which he won an unprecedented four Ballon d'Ors in a row. His personal best campaign so far is the 2011-12 season, in which he set the record for most goals in a season, both in La Liga and in other European competitions. Over the next two seasons, he too suffered injuries and, in 2014, lost the Ballon d'Or to Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he considers his rival. He returned to his best form during the 2014-15 campaign, in which he surpassed the records for absolute top scorer in La Liga and the Champions League and achieved a historic second treble with Barcelona, as well as winning his fifth Ballon d'Or. winning it for the sixth and seventh time in 2019 and 2021.
As an Argentine international, he has represented his country in fourteen major tournaments. At the youth level, in 2005 he participated with the under-20 team in the South American Cup in Colombia and won the World Cup in the Netherlands, a tournament in which he finished as the best player and top scorer and, with the under-23, received the medal of gold at the 2008 Olympic Games. After making his debut in the senior team in August 2005, at the 2006 World Cup in Germany he became the youngest Argentine to play and score in a World Cup. The following year, in the Copa América, he was named the best young player of the tournament. As captain since August 2011, he reached the finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the 2015 Copa América and the Copa América Centenario with his team, as well as winning the 2021 Copa América against Brazil at the Maracana and, in 2022, the Finalissima against Italy at Wembley and the World Cup in Qatar against France at the Lusail stadium.

10 Records that will never be broken in fotball
1 Most World Cup victories by a team - Brazil has won the FIFA World Cup a record 5 times and it would be incredibly difficult for any team to surpass this record, given the competition and the unpredictable nature of the tournament.
2 Most goals scored in a single World Cup - Just Fontaine of France scored 13 goals in the 1958 World Cup, a feat that has yet to be matched. With the tournament format and player rest schedules, it's unlikely that anyone will be able to score that many goals in a single tournament.
3 Longest unbeaten run in international football - Spain went unbeaten for 35 matches from 2007 to 2009, a record that will be hard to beat given the competitive nature of international football.
4 Most goals scored in a single season of a top European league - Lionel Messi scored an incredible 50 goals in the 2011-2012 La Liga season, a feat that may never be matched.
5 Most consecutive seasons as top scorer in a top European league - Lionel Messi has been the top scorer in La Liga for 7 consecutive seasons from 2013-2020, a record that is unlikely to be surpassed anytime soon.
6 Most goals scored in a calendar year - Lionel Messi scored 91 goals in 2012, breaking Gerd Muller's record of 85 goals in a year. It would be a monumental task for any player to match or surpass this record.
7 Fastest hat-trick in the English Premier League - Sadio Mane scored a hat-trick in just 2 minutes and 56 seconds in a match against Aston Villa in 2015, a record that will be hard to break.
8 Most consecutive clean sheets in the English Premier League - Chelsea went 10 games without conceding a goal in the 2004-2005 season, a record that has yet to be matched.
9 Most consecutive league titles in a top European league - Celtic FC won 9 consecutive Scottish Premiership titles from 2011-2019, a record that is unlikely to be surpassed anytime soon.
10 Most consecutive domestic cup victories in a top European league - Paris Saint-Germain won the Coupe de France 8 times in a row from 2015-2020, a record that may never be matched.

What annoys me more about the 50 game record, is the arrogance and twats that it’s going to bring from the fanbase. Like let’s not forget your club only has one CL, Lyon has 8, Wolfsburg have 2 and even Frankfurt have 2 or 3. Like calm the fuck down.
Let’s not forget the arrogance your squad had last season against RM in the first leg where you got exposed by Olga Carmona. Which then made every other team in Europe realise you’re not fucking invincible
Let’s not forget your arrogance in the second leg at Wolfsburg where you got embarrassed and lost the last streak of games you won.
Let’s not forget the 4-1 against Lyon in Budapest in 2019 and 3-1 in Turin last year. Alexia got shut down in the midfield, your lack of positioning by your defence got exposed and one of your best forwards; CGH got shut down by a 21 year old Selma Bacha who has 4 champions league already.
Let’s not mention bayern away this season, or the multiple matches you have lost to Wolfsburg.
Don’t get me wrong, they are impressive, but not invincible. The fans need to calm the fuck down and stop overreacting when their teams flaws are exposed. And also realise streaks like this aren’t good in the long run.
I just can’t wait for the day when they finally don’t win a trophy and realise that their team isn’t invincible. We already see teams in Europe learning how to expose especially German and French teams.
As well teams in Liga F, like Real Sociedad almost took them down. I can’t wait for the day that RM, athletics and other league teams catch up.
Sorry for the rant, I’m a tired RM fan and sick of Barca bullshit. Also can’t wait for our first win against the fuckers.
Yea barcas fan base can be a bit ott at times

I'm not a football fan actually but i really do wanna watch it?How do I get started with football?Like how do I select the team?what are the rules?
hi!! very happy that you wanna get into football! World Cup is an amazing time to start things!
So, there aren’t many rules, (with selecting the team) with World Cup you usually support your national team (short nt or seleção in Portuguese) but that can change sometimes.
With a football club (ex: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea, Flamengo, River Plate, FC Milan, Bayern Munchen) is usually a very emotional identification/vibes thing. I don’t know where you live or how or your local league works, but if you can’t find a club that you wanna support and be a fan of some ppl choose to support an international football club.
Check the major national leagues (Brasileirão, La Liga, Ligue 1, Primera División, Premier League, Bundesliga, Campeonato Nacional AFP PlanVital) and the continental cups (Champions League, Copa Libertadores da América, Europa League, Copa Sulamericana) current and past editions to get to know the teams, their history and vibes
World Cup normally happens during the global north summer, in July, but FIFA made this awful decision of hosting it in Qatar so we having it in November, which fucked up the entire football season around the world.
In the north, a new season starts in the end of summer, has a winter break and ends at the begging of the next summer. Here in the south it works with our seasons, so it begins around the middle of our summer: February, march, and it ends in November, our winter.
Of course it’s easier to support a local/national football club, but it’s not impossible to support an international one. My team Clube de Regatas do Flamengo, has the largest amount of fans in Brazil and in the world, so we are everywhere.
When it comes to learning about the sport itself, the rules, how it works practically and so on, like I said, watching the World Cup is an amazing time to see the the best of the what sport has to offer! The narrators and commentators know that the general public is watching so they always explain the rules, and you can check wikis and stuff for the the proper written stuff while you check how it translates in the field. It’s also great to get to know the players, which club they play for and potential clubs to check when the football season begins again. We are currently in the group fase of the World Cup and have up to 4 matches a day!
Teams play one match against the other teams in their group and the top two teams with the most points from each group advance to the knockout stage.
A victory equals three points.
A draw equals one point.
A loss equals no points.
If the top two teams are tied in points, the first place team is the team with a higher goal differential (the difference between how many goals a team conceded and scored in its games) or whichever team won the head-to-head matchup.
The first place team of a group goes on to play the second place team of another group (and vice versa) in the first knockout stage, also known as the round of 16. Then the number of teams gets cut to eight, then four in the next stage, then to two, who will play in the final on Sunday Dec. 18. A third place match between the losers of the semi-final games will be played the day before.

I think I wrote a lot already, I’m sorry about the rambling, I’m gonna end on a very clubista (biased) note and attach a video of one of the most emotional matches of my team, the libertadores final of 2019
If you have any more questions or need anything else, don’t hesitate to ask!
*edited this and fixed the typos, And grammar issues, I’m sorry about them, wrote this on a hurry before therapy!

Official announcement
Mariano Diaz contract with Real Madrid ended. In the 7 seasons he played 84 matches (2219 minutes), scored 12 goals and made 3 assist. During this time he won 2 Champions League titles, 3 La Liga titles, 1 Copa del Rey title, 2 Club World Cups, 2 UEFA Supercupd and 2 Supercopad de Espana.
He wasn’t an important part of the team, but will be remembered by his amazing goal against AS Roma in the Champions League 2018/2019 and his winning goal, just after a second after being subbed in, against FC Barcelona in La Liga 2019/2020.
Adios Mariano! Good luck!

Hi Ciene!! I was looking thru your posts about barca and at one point you said "I was so numb by Bayern I barely noticed it, Anfield was way worse". But it seems to me 8-2 is from a score point of view way worse as an humiliation, no? Im genuinely curious! kiss kiss
Hi lovely!
I get from casuals or not Barça supporters that the logical option, upon getting asked to chose the "worst humiliation" in Barça's UCL's recent history, would be to go for the infamous 8-2 since, as you pointed out, it's a pretty catastrophic score that cannot be surpassed by a seemingly more dull 4-0. But from a Barça's hincha, you have to place Anfield, and Bayern, in the larger context.
Essentially, after 2015, it was a free fall, that started to take real shape and become noticeable in our game with Roma (4-1 ; 0-3 won by Roma due to the exterior goal rule that has since been erased) in 2018, then Anfield in 2019 (3-0 ; 0-4) and finally Bayern's 8-2 in 2020. Roma was the first severe hit, but Anfield was the uppercut. You gotta place it into our 2018-2019 season: Barcelona, after the 2017-2018 season, departures, knocking out of the UCL, wasn't expected to do very great, but they did. Because of a mix of things but most of all, essentially, at the core of it all, there was one guy that was at the form of his life, one guy that carried his club like Sisyphus and his boulder, one guy that aligned absolutely mental statistics while passing the eye test and being visibly better than essentially everyone on the pitch, whether his teammates or their opponents. Guess who. 😐 I'm not gonna go over his performance because truly, he outplayed and outshined every single player that season. FCB was on its way to win La Liga, the Supercopa and well on the UCL until Liverpool happened.
The first leg was good. That free kick? I jumped out of my skin alright. Me and the friends I was watching with did a Tom Cruise on my fucking couch, we were screaming, laughing, we couldn't believe it. You know those moments of euphoria in football, when it all happens at once, action after action, you can't fathom it, you're caught in your own pride, joy, relentless hope? Resumes LM10's UCL's run pretty well: stellar. Putting everyone on their feet. Making us hope to touch that trophy again. Making us so fucking proud of being a blaugrana and having him as ours. A promise of something great lying ahead, a treble, after Roma, after Neymar's departure and lack of proper replacement. I got no words for how bad second leg was. A crumble on the pitch, off of it, a mentality struggle that cripples this team to this day. Liverpool was so bad because the team just had to not take four goals. Guess they took lessons from PSG tho. :)
Can't really tell you how I and multiple felt about that; it was just a general, horrific crumble, and after the game, a kind of numbness that settled in. I remember one of my friend just shrugging at the end of Bayern; almost laughing. We were completely snapped out of it, no involvement whatsoever, and that's why, to me, Anfield was worse. Because at Anfield, we genuinely thought we could do it. It was a fairy tale. At Bayern, we didn't. 8-2 could have been 3-0 or 5-1 or 10-2, wouldn't have changed much. I'm not claiming it's all Barça's supporters feelings towards this, just explaining mine. I still can't watch Anfield's vids because it makes me genuinely mad, for everything it could have represented, for everything we could have won, because a team hadn't been able to back up one player when he had a faltering of form over one game. A bittersweet reminder that you could be the best player in the world and go through arguably the best season of your career, if you don't have anyone behind you, you won't get anywhere — football is a team sport and nothing else. A team wins. A team loses. End of discussion. :)
