The idea of 'The Sovereign' and this storyline in Wonder Woman by Tom King reminds me of Hydra Captain America and the Secret Empire by Nick Spencer.
#wonder woman#i didn't want to discuss this but the sovereign really makes me angry in just how lazy he is as a character#and this whole idea of a 'secret king' running America#reeks the same as 'what if Captain America was a Hydra agent all along'#not only does the conspiracy that's been created upend a lot of what's already been established in WW lore#but this is also just a lazy kind of character creation that just takes everything Diana is and makes it opposite#the Sovereign or is he a Bizarro Wonder Woman?#like Superman and Lex aren't wholly opposites their goals are the same it's their motivation that's different#Lex 'helps' because he wants to look good and get praise and money he does good for selfish reasons#meanwhile Superman does good because it's the right thing to do#the sovereign looks and feels shallow#it's trying hard to be edgy but it's cringe i mean 'lasso of lies'?#it feels like it's gonna be revealed that there wasn't ever going to be a history where the sovereign and his ilk ruled America#but someone gave this man the lasso of lies and he created his new reality off the old one LIKE when Cap was rewritten to be Hydra#and we know he gets locked up so what is the actual stakes in this story we know he gets defeated#so what makes this story important?#like wonder woman earth one did this whole arc better and the main villain being max lord aka ares made more sense#the first 6 or so issues should have been on working towards unraveling amazonian influence and power in America because a group of men#see them as a threat to American superiority if this is the direction you want to go in#snapping your fingers and fastfowarding for a first issue is not the in media res you think it is#im ranting but ww has been one of mh fav series the past few years and now#for the first time in a long time#i have to not read it because this whole storyline sucks#dc comics#i can't wait for whoever comes next to undo what's happening now because if there's one consistent thing about WW is she will be reinvented

Tell me about that house. Their kids, their cats, their lizard. What kind of lizard is it? Does Aunt May watch the kids on date night? Have they been given the most heartmeltingly ridiculously nerdy names? What is MJ up to?
listen here's my lukewarm take but Peter Parker just wants to be normal. He's not a hero because he's looking for glory or praise, he's doing it because he can and therefore should. Spider-Man is not a career, it is a hobby and he's going to settle down one day if he can
So maybe in some universe, Norman doesn't turn himself into the green goblin, maybe Harry goes to therapy and lets someone else run Oscorp. Idk how it happens but Harry and Peter get married and buy a little house in Queens not far from Aunt May and Uncle Ben's place because that neighborhood has always felt more like home to Harry than whatever stuffy mansion Norman raised him in. Harry just adores that there are people present in his life. No matter how late he has to stay up, Peter always comes home to him. He never has to worry about if he's measuring up because Harry will always be enough for Peter.
Now I think Harry Osborn is a cat person and I don't think anyone is going to argue this point. Harry can be outgoing, but he prefers that quiet one on one time. Like people with daddy issues get cats that's just the rules of life. They get the dumbest cuddliest orange cat they can find and they name it flash. I can't explain it, but Peter Parker has reptile person energy. Guys that are into very specific sciences and are genuinely good people have some kind of pet reptile, I've never been proven wrong. I think they'd have a crested gecko because they're relatively low maintenance and they're busy people but they're also so sweet once they're comfortable with you. Also, they love climbing and jumping and I think it'd be really cute if Peter and this gecko just hung out on the ceiling together. Harry tries to get Peter to name it Curtis, this is soundly rejected. They decide to name her Lex after the girl from Jurassic Parker because I don't care what time period the spider-man story is set, Peter is a 90s kid.
Also I think they'd adopt older kids. Because Peter is out here doing superhero shit and every other hero has the heartbreaking backstory of dead parents and being tossed around the system till they get powers or are sponsored by a billionaire. But how many kids are in the same situation but don't get powers or are drawn to the dark side instead of the good guys. And like yeah, Peter started doing superhero shit too young as well, but as he gets older the grim reality of that hits harder. So Harry and Peter foster and obviously they can't adopt every kid that passes through their home, but they want to give them everything they need to build the best life they can, even if it's just for a little bit. The kids they do adopt are already too old to change their names, but they ask for suggestions for their middle names, or maybe their trans and want to change their first name too and Peter suggests Ben and May (obviously) but also just the names of fallen heroes and just normal New Yorkers that have helped Spider-Man throughout the years. Harry is the best dad ever even though is terrified that he's going to fuck up the kids. He's constantly scared of acting out like his father, but he's always there for his kids and they feel comfortable telling him anything and he listens. They have enough money from Harry's trust fund and Oscorp that they're comfortable and finally Peter doesn't have to worry about money, but they don't spoil their kids, mostly because Norman used buying things for Harry as a way to skip actually showing affection. They're an "only getting gifts on birthdays and holidays" family. Peter is a "do your homework" kind of dad and Harry is an "I don't feel like going into the office today so you're skipping school and we're going to the zoo and getting ice cream" kind of dad. Also, Harry is the king of the PTA, he only brings the finest homemade baked goods to the school bake sale. And obviously, Aunt May watches the kids, she comes over uninvited (well, she's always invited of course) to hang out with them and the kids agree, Peter's aunt is way cooler than him.
MJ in this universe is still close with Harry and Peter and you know I'm not opposed to a polycule but maybe she didn't have time to settle down. Maybe her own parents' constant fighting just put her off the idea of marriage and commitment. And of course, she loves Peter and Peter loves her, but they just couldn't mesh like that, but they're still friends. MJ pursues her dreams to become a Broadway actress and she is an absolute star, Peter and Harry go to see her opening night of every show. Eventually, she decides she's meant for bigger and better things. She writes and directs her own plays and musicals, she's the biggest name in the industry and she writes a Spider-Man musical and it's a smashing success. And maybe she and Gwen Stacy have a thing since we're just creating the perfect universe. They all meet up for drinks at least once a month if not once a week. And sure, Harry and Peter are married, but they're friends first and Peter has built a family out of his friends and when he has Harry, MJ, and Gwen all together, everything is perfect.
#asks#I just want them to be happy#and like obviously the white picket fence life doesn't make everyone happy#but Peter wants that apple pie life so bad

Villains United
Hey there, pregnancy pants. Forever Evil continues, and thus so does our review!
Here's the cover:
This might be the most generic cover of the lot. Like, it's a wild team composition, but otherwise it is just a group shot. At least the posing is rather varied and dynamic. That's really all there is to say about it! It's not bad, but I wouldn't write home about it either.
We pick up where we left off, down under Wayne Enterprises. Power Ring is fleeing in panic. Sinestro is following behind him, doing it the slow way. He is leader of the fear lanterns, after all. He would be a master of the "slow, pursued-by-a-killer" walk. Meanwhile, the rest of the groups slug it out while Lex Luthor narrates about how of course everything would come down to him. Lex saves Batman from Copperhead to get Bats on his side for the fight. Fighting the Syndicate's goons now is more important than either of them's dislike for each other.
Likewise, the other members of Luthor's squad also learn the value of teamwork. Catwoman goads Black Adam into throwing Giganta out of the building. Black Manta blasts Shadow-Thief (who I guess is a lady in the New 52?) to get her off Captain Cold's back. And while Lex and Batman actually fight over who gets to fight Copperhead, Deathstroke sneaks up and points a gun at Lex's head, snarking that Lex never included a helmet on his cool battlesuit because then no one could tell it was him. I mean, I gotta say, point goes to Deathstroke there~
While the fights go on, Power Ring ducks into a side tunnel to cry to himself for a bit. His ring persuades him to wish for more power, and Power Ring relents. He and Sinestro briefly struggle in an exchange of beams, but then Sinestro actually cuts the guy's arm off with a circular saw construct. His ring decides the host is too damaged to continue and abandons him, Power Ring crying tears of pain and happiness that he's finally free, thanking Sinestro. Sinestro says he's welcome before he incinerates him to skeletal ash.
And in a neat mirrored panel, Lex informs Deathstroke that if the Syndicate takes over the world, there'll be no need for mercinaries like him. They'll do everything themselves, and that's just bad business. And Lex knows business. So Deathstroke moves his gun from Lex to Copperhead, and shoots the snakeman in the head, mirroring the same shot of Sinestro vaporising Power Ring. It's very cinematic. Bizarro finishes up everything by plowing Blockbuster into the ground, and Lex actually tells him he did a good job. Praise and motivation are important, for both employees and pets~
We get a brief aside while Ultraman discovers Batman has taken the Kryptonite ring from the Batcave and that Power Ring is dead, putting them on edge. Afterwards, Lex offers his team-up to Batman, since they both want to take out the Crime Syndicate. Batman's refusing, since he wants them taken alive. Sinestro walks in to report that Power Ring is already dead, so it's a bit late for that. He also gives Batman some notes for the next time he feels the urge to use one of his rings. Batman would make a fantastic Yellow Lantern, after all.
Lex then persuades both Deathstroke and Sinestro to join his side. Sinestro, he appeals to his need to be in charge and the chance to rub saving the world in the Green Lanterns' face. Deathstroke, he just promises him a lot of money. He then extends the offer to Batman, who rolls low on his Intimidation check. But he agrees to join up only if they help him rescue Dick Grayson.
And the comic ends with the Crime Syndicate noting that Power Ring's ring is putting out a lot of weird subspace pulses while searching for a new host. But the new host doesn't matter. What matters is what else has head those pulses: the same mysterious entity that chased them out of their own universe has arrived now. This looks like a job for... well, frankly, I don't know who at this point~
So, pretty good issue. Mostly fight scenes, but with some heavy character stuff in the midst of it. Mostly it’s an issue to show Lex as the smartest guy in the room. He gets Deathstroke on his side with just words. Sure, the money helps, but it’s more the promise of any hope of payment that convinces him. It’s very clever. Next week, we’ll hit the climax, and it looks like we’ll finish this event before the month is out~

I was tagged in this ask by @inktog - thank you!
I’m not great at tagging other folk, but if you see this and you fancy doing it, consider yourself tagged! Also, by the way, if anyone seeing this really likes being tagged in these kind of things, let me know! I will tag you in future!
This was hard. At first I was like, “I’m not sure I can even name ten relationships I ship”, and then had far too many as soon as I thought about it for more than ten seconds. So here we are. :)
First, list your top 10 ships without reading the questions below.
1. Luz Noceda / Amity Blight – The Owl House
2. Harrowhark Nonagesimus / Gideon Nav – The Locked Tomb Series
3. Sabran / Eadaz du Zāla uq-Nāra – The Priory of the Orange Tree
4. Caleb Widogast / Essek Theyless – Critical Role Campaign 2
5. Beauregard Lionett / Jester Lavorre – Critical Role Campaign 2
6. Harrowhark Nonagesimus / Ianthe Tridentarius – The Locked Tomb Series
7. Kara Danvers / Lena Luthor – Supergirl
8. Amity Blight / Boscha – The Owl House
9. Korra / Asami – The Legend of Korra
10. Percy / Vexahlia – Critical Role Campaign 1
Then answer the questions.
Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?
I’m going to be honest, it was from the very beginning of Harrow the Ninth – the Prologue, where we get that amazing moment of Ianthe kneeling down and taking Harrow by the chin. I’m going to quote, because this scene just marched up to my house, kicked my door down and stole my entire mind.
You were shocked into opening your eyes when you felt the girl opposite cup your chin in her hands – her fingers febrile compared to the chilly shock of her gilded metacarpal – and put her meat thumb at the corner of your jaw. For a moment you assumed that you were hallucinating, but that assumption was startled away by the cool nearness of her, of Ianthe Tridentarius on her knees before you in unmistakable supplication. Her pallid hair fell around her face like a veil, and her stolen eyes looked at you with half-beseeching, half-contemptuous despair: blue eyes with deep splotches of light brown, like agate.
Looking deep into the eyes of the cavalier she murdered, you realised, not for the first time, and not willingly, that Ianthe Tridenatrius was beautiful.
Dude.
Have you ever read a fic about 2?
Yup! More than one! I don’t generally seek out smut for my ships, for whatever reason, but I freely admit that I sought out smut for these two. And found it. Found it with quality in spades. Praise be. Is this a good spot for recs? If so:
Sleepless by pugoata
Like a Lullaby by SweetScentences
Has a picture of 4 ever been your screensaver/profile pic/tumblr?
Nope. I tend not to change my pics very much, and they tend to focus on single characters rather than ships, again for whatever reason.
If 7 were to suddenly break up today, what would your reaction be?
Yeah… Well of course they’re not together in canon. I ship supercorp foolishly, helplessly, knowing all the while that the chances of it becoming reality are vanishingly small. That said, we don’t ship purely for canon, do we? So if Kara and Lena were together and then were to break up I’d be disappointed, but I suspect they’d find their way back to each other. These two have a history of being separated, then rediscovering their love and coming back together. I give it a couple of weeks. :)
Why is 1 so important?
Man, I don’t know! It snuck up on me! I think there’s something here about firstly, the context for Lumity. Amity’s crush on Luz was just presented as normal, as something fine and good and natural, and that meant so much to me. There’s a softness here that I love so much. I also heavily empathise with Amity – the trying to live up to expectations and feeling that you have to hide yourself behind emotional walls – and the thought of her finding love with someone like Luz who is so open and emotionally giving does my heart good. I want Amity to find acceptance and openness with Luz. I want Luz to find herself seen and valued for exactly who she is by Amity. I want to see them finding strength and security in each other. I just love them, you guys.
There’s a bit in this wonderful YouTube video essay, which I recommend to the moon and back – watch it if you haven’t! (“The Owl House is Great and Here’s Why, by Film Freak”) Where the essayist concludes their section on Lumity by saying: “I don’t know if Disney will chicken out in the future with regards to Lumity or any other queer rep, but for now I’m cautiously optimistic. Maybe I just have rose-tinted goggles for how soft this ship is, but whatever, let me stan just once.”
And… yeah. That.
Which one has the strongest bond?
Wow, tough one. Probably Sabran and Ead. They’ve gone through everything together, and are prepared to wait for each other in the end. Their bond is strong enough to take that and more.
Which ship has lasted the longest?
For me or the ship itself? For me of all of these probably Korra / Asami. Shipped ‘em first time I saw LoK, and haven’t stopped.
How many times, if ever, has 6 broken up?
Have they ever gotten together? If they ever did get together they’d break up every couple of days. These two are a mess, and their relationship is a toxic trainwreck. Still ship ‘em though. Can’t help it. Sometimes ships are just fascinating. If this was real life I’d want them to not come within shouting distance of each other. In fiction I’m riveted.
If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive: 2 or 8?
Definitely Harrow and Gideon. Those two have fought through apocalyptic situations before, and my money would be on them to do it again. Plus they are the quintessential battle couple. Can you imagine Harrow’s bone magic and Gideon’s martial expertise being unleashed on zombies? Those two would save the whole damn world.
Amity and Boscha would put up a good fight, I think, but I can see them disagreeing on key decisions which might hurt their chances.
Did 7 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?
Given that Kara is a whole secret identity, we could say they are continually hiding their relationship when Kara is out there as Supergirl? I could also see them hiding their relationship at Lena’s insistence to protect Kara from Lex before she realised Kara was actually Supergirl. She might even want to do that afterwards as well, on reflection. Lena is very protective of Kara, ironically enough. :)
Is 4 still together?
Right now? This is another non-canon ship. That said, this is one I’m genuinely hoping for a canon appearance from. Their relationship might be put under strain from the fact that they’re both mages, and mages tend to get selfish and power hungry (or at least these two claim that’s how it goes). I think they’d work through it though. These two talk big about their own selfishness a lot, and then in practice are very caring and protective of others. I can see that extending to each other. Just kiss already.
Is 10 canon?
Yup! My token het ship are still very much together, growing old and having babies.Good for them. :)
If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
This is an invitation to go into huge depth, but my initial feeling is that Harrow and Gideon would again have it hands down. Those two are world-endingly powerful. Although that said, Kara and Lena might give them a run for their money. Pure power ranking? Let’s see…
1. Harrow / Gideon
2. Kara / Lena
3. Korra / Asami
4. Beau / Jester
5. Caleb / Essek
6. Percy / Vex
7. Harrow / Ianthe
8. Sabran / Ead
9. Amity / Luz (no shade, but these guys are literal children. Grown up they’d put up a better showing, I’d bet)
10. Amity / Boscha
Has anyone ever tried to sabotage 5?
I mean… Fjord? I wonder sometimes what would have happened if Beau had genuinely put in a play for Jester, rather than stepping back to let Fjord make his move. She very obviously decided that Fjord should have a free shot, and I wonder how it would have worked if she actually decided to compete. Would Fjord have stepped back to let Beau make a try for Jester if he was aware of her feelings? I don’t know. A genuine competition would have been heartbreaking but oh so interesting to see.
Do you spend hours a day going through 3’s tumblr tag?
Not hours, but I have put some good time into finding fanart for these two. There is some good work out there!
If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she’d break them all up, which ship would you SINK?
Amity / Boscha. Sorry you two! I wrote myself into shipping Amity and Boscha, when I fell in love with Boscha and decided she could actually be good for Amity in a snarky, take no shit kind of a way. I would still love to see more of them. (Halfway through that one-shot btw.) But if it was them or everyone else? Sorry guys. :(

Janet Drake...
and the Orphans. She doesn’t care for them. Except when Timothy does, because then it’s a problem™.
----.----
The days following the circus tragedy found Janet constantly wearing a curious accessory. And by that, she means Tim was hanging on to her at all times like a stubbornly stuck belt or backpack, depending on whether he was clinging to her waist or shoulders.
It was a little suffocating at times, but to be honest, the cercany helped her frayed nerves as well as his growing separation anxiety. Because Jack had left, and she was still steaming over the fact.
Her husband, back home for the week, had left for the next dig site earlier than expected, scared away by Timothy’s nightmares and cries. As if it were weird for a four year old to be scared out of his mind by witnessing another little kid’s parents die in front of him. As if it was a minor inconvenience and awkward situation, instead of future therapy material for their kid.
‘Coward’, she thought, full of spite, hand carefully brushing Tim’s hair away from his forehead as he slept with his head in her lap, watching from the couch as Jack trudged down the stairs with his travel suitcase at the ready.
She wouldn’t ask him to stay, though. Timothy deserved parents willing to stay by their own volition, no some half witted irresponsible man-child who couldn’t deal with a little emotional trauma.
Like, Janet herself wasn’t the best at reassurance, but at least she was trying, dear god. That had to count more than Jack’s escape act.
But, useless husband aside, she was… worried. About her son.
Emotional trauma wasn’t something she could just intimidate into submission. Some desperate dream, like owning an island, she had the money to fulfil for him. Unknown attacker to eliminate? Sure, there were no lacking meatbags in the market for hire to...make someone else disappear. But dealing with stuff that included heart to hearts and love? Yeah, no. She always thought Jack would be the one dealing with that kind of thing, so she was wholly unprepared for it. It also wasn’t an issue she could just push into her friends; Both Nicole and Lex were equally as unexperienced (inept) in that area.
Though, they did offer some sound advice.
“Take Timothy to see the boy”, suggested Luthor during their weekly business call (or, as Nicole called it, their bitchfest, where they despised together about the concerning lack of braincells flowing in the rest of the corporate world). “He’s probably worried sick about two things: your safety, and the kid’s who he saw become an orphan. Maybe seeing him well cared for by Wayne will be soothing enough for him to relax a little. Fuck if I know. Now, back at my story… You wouldn’t believe what that empty brained, graceless twit Oliver Queen said then.”
So Janet followed his advice, both about the visit to Wayne Manor and not making business with Queen.
After the first uncomfortable five minutes where Tim tried to stutter a condolence out, the kids had taken to one another like fishes to water. The adoration was clear in Tim’s eyes, shining through his nervousness, like that damn bat signal broke through the clouds to illuminate the city.
And Richard, Dick as he asked to be called, absolutely laped at it, doing flips and jumps, each one flashier than the one before, enticing claps from his captive audience of one. He laughed when Tim asked his usual hundred questions, undeterred by her son’s enthusiasm. There were tinges of the sadness and mourning on his eyes, but they were chased away by the four year old’s joy whenever he told a pun.
Sitting at one of the tea tables overseeing the garden where the kids played, Bruce and Janet interchanged looks.
-It was a good idea to bring Tim over, Janet -praised the man.
-Of course -she replied primly, choosing to not inform him it had been Luthor’s suggestion.
-Dick hasn’t laughed at all since he came here… maybe we can set more playdates for them?
Timothy’s laughter in her ears, unburdened for the first time since that night, was all the motivation she needed to nod.
-Why take him in, though? -she asked after a few minutes of watching as Dick did a double flip, to Tim’s excitement.
-Dick… what he went through… it was like seeing myself, back then. I couldn’t just leave him alone.
A sigh, and a sip of tea.
-Bruce. You can’t adopt every single orphan you come across.
-----.-----
A little over seven years later, Janet downed a glass of champagne in two long sips, watching from the side of the ballroom as Tim approached the newcomers to his birthday party: Bruce Wayne, Dick Grayson, and his newest ward, Jason Todd.
-When I told him that, I didn’t mean it as a challenge.
-Hum? -asks Nicole, sharp green eyes on her godson, tilting her head a little to hear Janet better.
-Nothing. What are you looking at, that focused?
The woman gave Luthor, who completed their little group (god, reminders of high school much?), a side look. He returned it.
-I’m going to get started into the spa gift card -he said, apropos of nothing, before walking away, whipping out his phone and typing like a madman.
-What was he on about?
-Oh, nothing -mused Nicole, eyes still on Tim (who was, as always with the Waynes, a flustered mess, thanking them -and specially, their latest addition- for coming to his party). She took one of Janet’s hands in both of hers, finally looking away from the child to look at his mother. Nicole’s eyes were full of pity and amusement-. Be strong, Jan.
-What...?
----.-----
-...the fuck?
-Shhh, darling, breath. I told you, didn’t I? Be strong.
-What. Just… no. No. I refuse -he gestured, as graceful and lady like as she could given the circumstances- this.
They were currently at Wayne Manor, celebrating with the Waynes the fourteenth birthday of the youngest of them. Tim, who had been very cagey and mysterious the last few months, had brought a potted flower. That, apparently, he grew himself, from a seed to the pretty little yellow sprout.
Alstroemeria, a beautiful flower which symbolises enduring friendship. Each of the flower's six petals represents the characteristics of understanding, humour, patience, empathy, commitment and respect.
That was the flower Timothy choose to gift Jason Todd, explaining as he did how he cared for the flower for weeks, telling it stories about Jason and asking it to give him good luck. Something about plants being magical, able to give off special vibes, and how he ‘trained’ it to do the same for Jason.
It was adorable, and judging from the brat’s furious blush, he agreed. He took the hand-painted pot with utmost care.
It was revolting. She wanted to claw his eyes out, if only to get him to stop looking at her son like that.
Stop him from looking at her son, period.
-Shh -continued to sooth Nicole, quick hand slipping a card into Janet’s purse- There, an all day, full treatment, already paid for spa gift card, from me and Luthor. You’re going to need it. Timmy is eleven after all, hormones are bound to start kicking anytime soon.
She wanted to scream, especially when Richard, apparently tendered after Tim’s heartfelt gift to Jason, picked him up and started to spin him around the ballroom. Her son’s already rosy cheeks went full red.
-Damned Wayne and his godforsaken orphans. I swear to God I’m gonna sue him if he dares adopt another one.
Nicole, on her part, winced a little inwardly. Perhaps this wasn’t the right moment to tell Janet about her sister Talia’s spawn with Wayne.

LIANA DRAYTON-CRAWFORD
Full Name: Liana Selene Drayton-Crawford
Nickname(s): Lia, Duchess
Birthday: July 5th, 1978 (42)
Hometown: Chanute, Kansas
Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with a minor in Biochemistry from Northeastern University
Occupation: Waitress at Red’s Diner
Faceclaim: Amy Adams
Content Warning(s):
Divorce, Emotional Manipulation/Abuse (Implied), Cheating,
BACKGROUND:
Liana was born & raised in Chanute, Kansas to young parents (18, 19) who had no concept of the amount of work it took to raise a child
She was raised on hard work, thrift shops, and Sunday mass by her maternal grandparents as her parents never stepped up to the plate to try their hand in raising their daughter
Already absent in much of her life, the couple broke up in their mid-20′s and her father moved to Washington state and was not heard from after that point
Her mother never ended up going to college and ended up marrying a lineman and moved away against the wishes of her parents, officially leaving Liana behind with her grandparents
Though her parental situation was different her life with her grandparents was great
They may have been some of the poorest people in the already poor, little midwestern town.. but they were all rich in love which was what mattered the most
The moment that Liana could get a job she did and her first job was working in a local flower shop and then moved to picking up shifts at the diner
All of the money she made went to help her grandparents with bills even though they would protest and downright refuse her offer to help. Liana would often secretly go and pay off some small bills anyway behind their backs to help
Anything extra of Liana’s that could be spared was saved so she could purchase a car. Her first vehicle was a 1985 Ford Escort (9 years old by the time of purchase). Issues with the vehicle were worked on by her grandfather (and sometimes Liana herself) as he used to be a mechanic in the town
Even with juggling working and school Liana managed to post outstanding scores and was named the valedictorian of her class (even though it was a small class it still felt like a great accomplishment with the way her parents had both barely graduated from high school)
She was accepted and granted a scholarship to attend Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts for chemistry
While in Boston, Liana met Alexander “Lex” Crawford who was attending Harvard University in the neighboring Cambridge, Massachusetts for law
The two began dating officially roughly 6 months after meeting
During Liana’s 4th year at Northeastern and Lex’s final year in law school, Liana found out that she was pregnant with Lex’s child (~2 months before graduation)
After graduation Lex proposed to Liana and the two had a fast-tracked wedding late that summer
The two would end up having 3 children in total and remain happily married for over 10 years before issues arose
MARRIAGE & DIVORCE: TW Divorce, Emotional Manipulation/Abuse, Cheating
They welcomed their first child in 2000, a boy, named Theodore “Theo” Crawford
Even though Liana had her degree her dreams of pursuing a career were cut short and she instead became a stay-at-home mother to care for Theo full time (as per the request of her husband and his family)
Five years after the birth of Theo, Liana and Lex had another child in 2005 - this time a girl named Ava Crawford
For the first few years of marriage Lex was fairly sincere and loyal to Liana but was often swept up in the scandals of his own family’s bad behavior
This bad behavior was often praised by other members of his family and he grew to resent Liana for keeping him from enjoying his youth
Liana spent much of her time with the children and trying to be the perfect housewife
In a matter of years she had gone from the only thing in her name being a 1985 Ford Escort to having access to a house in the Hamptons, cars, lake homes, and expensive time shares overseas
She cooked, cleaned, decorated the house for each and every occasion and was always the parent who attended parent-teacher conferences and was also part of the PTA/PTO
Lex started to go behind Liana’s back with other women (most of whom were college interns or assistants for the law firm)
Everyone knew about it but no one would say anything since Liana never brought it up as she preferred to pretend that it wasn’t always the hot gossip amongst the circles she was in
Lex would reel Liana back in by preying on her love for her children, informing her that if they were to divorce he would take the children and she would be left with nothing
He would also often switch between threats against Liana and grand romantic gestures (empty, of course) to keep her attached to him just enough to not leave
She preferred to wear the rose colored glasses as long as she could though eventually they would break
The worst came when Liana would have their third child together, another boy, in 2015 (Benjamin “Bear” Crawford)
From there things escalated quickly between Liana and Lex and they divorced in 2018
Lex would gain full custody of the children at this time by accusations against Liana that she was alienating the children from him
The Crawford reach extended into many of the rich and elite in New England so there was no concern from Lex about keeping custody no matter what Liana did, in fact the custody battle was an attempt to lure her into doing something uncharacteristic then using that against her to ensure that the children would stay with him (though he did it for revenge against her, not because he cared for the children)
Additionally, the Crawford family did not care for Liana that much overall, believing that she was still “some girl from a cornfield in Kansas” and they often called her Dorothy
Liana would battle with Lex in court over custody until the money ran short, additionally she would see how much of a toll the fighting took on the children and knowing she would never be able to beat her then-husband in court she stopped fighting
Lex also took out a restraining order against Liana after their legal proceedings were finished
Even though the children had spent 90% of their lives with their mother, their father’s words (and Black Amex) proved to be much more alluring than staying with the person who had seen them through everything in their lives
By the time the legal battles had settled down, Theo was of-age and went to college. Liana tries to keep in contact with him but he has not been that responsive (reasons not known, suspected influence from his father paying for his schooling)
Lex offered Liana a large share of money during the divorce as well as vehicles and vacation homes all of which she rejected, only taking what was in her name only
PERSONALITY:
Liana is very dedicated and loyal to her friends and family (even if sometimes they don’t deserve it)
Strong work ethic! She never lost this even while being married to someone who would’ve rather just paid for everything to be done rather than do it himself
Very maternal, she tries not to mother everyone but kind of accidentally does it sometimes (she’s working hard on reeling it in)
She’s very sweet, likes to help others when possible
Tries to see people for the best instead of the worst (hence staying with her husband for so long) even if it comes back to bite her in the ass
Can be almost a little too kind, this usually lead to her being used like a door mat but her divorce gave her some strength to push back once things got to be too much
Walking Pinterest board, she’s creative and enjoys her little projects. Often subjecting friends to testing them out with her (whether it’s building something or baking a recipe that looks good)
FAST FACTS:
Liana moved to Tupelo as an attempt to go somewhere where no one would know her
She could not go home as her family there is no longer around and no one could ever track down her father after he moved to Washington
She has deep regrets and embarrassment over not being able to get custody of her children and does not speak of them (as she does not want to explain anything)
Her home is bare of any photographs that would hint that she has children
She will speak of her ex-husband, but only briefly and not mention what he did but instead say that they split due to differing opinions on where they wanted their lives to lead
She still enjoys cooking and decorating as they are some of the few things she finds comforting, she also finds having live flowers in her home
Liana has two pets - a Great Dane named Salem and a brown tabby cat named “Billy the Kitten” based off the character of the same name from the popular mobile app Neko Atsume (both pets were handed over to Liana during the divorce)
Liana now lives in small home with a decent yard, using the remaining money she had to purchase it mostly for the yard for Salem (the inside of the home is lined with carpet runners for the dog and there is not an abundance of furniture that is not necessary as to accommodate Salem’s size)
Liana can be seen walking Salem often or having Salem outside with her while she gardens, Salem can wander freely around the property when Liana is outside - otherwise he is limited to the fence (which he can stick his head over)
She has a Mercedes (which she hates) and can never get it worked on without taking it to a larger city
She kept the Crawford part of her last name as (for whatever reason) it makes her feel closer to her children in some small way
BEST FRIEND FROM COLLEGE TM: (Taken WC by Ethan Morris, Jake Gyllenhaal FC)
These two met while attending Northeastern and quickly became close friends
Just because they were close didn’t necessarily mean that he always supported or even liked the fact that Liana was dating Lex Crawford
He & Lex shared a mutual distain for one another
Even with this, the two would eventually attend each other’s weddings
Right before he got married he asked Liana to leave Lex and to essentially have a modern-day runaway sequence with him (no points for timing)
Unfortunately, she could not bring herself to divorce her husband at the time
After he got married they began to drift apart
CONNECTIONS:
Friends!
People she mothers on accident
Other dog people (and cat)
Those who benefit/are subjected to taste testing random recipes she finds
Regulars at Red’s
Her kid?? This could be a WC at some point I guess (We out here being flexible on most of that)
She’s not really looking for anything romantic at all - but y’know sometimes it hits you when you least expect
Maybe someone who actually did know her from the east coast (whoops)
Everything!!
