Same Team | L Draisaitl
Tumblr media
You were mad—borderline seething—and in hindsight, maybe you’d let your mouth run too far.
“I don’t care what the media says,” you snapped, arms crossed, pacing across the living room. “They act like you’re the only reason the team’s failing. Maybe if you actually stepped up—”
“Don’t,” Leon said quietly.
He didn’t yell. He didn’t snap. But the low, controlled tone in his voice was enough to stop you cold.
You blinked. “Don’t what?”
“Don’t speak to me like that.”
He stepped closer, the calmness in his voice somehow more intimidating than if he’d shouted. His jaw was tight. His posture still.
“Not when you know what I put into this,” he said, eyes sharp. “Not when you’ve watched it.”
Your stomach dropped. “Leon, I didn’t mean—”
“You did.”
The words hit harder than they should’ve. Because he was right. You had meant it in the moment. You’d been hurt and angry and let the ugliest part of yourself take the wheel.
“You were angry,” he continued. “So you went for the lowest blow you could find. That’s not how this works. That’s not how we work.”
The silence after that was deafening. All the heat that had surged in your chest during the argument fizzled into shame.
“I’ve never disrespected you,” Leon said. “Even when I’m upset. Even when I’m frustrated. I don’t talk to you like that. I don’t make you feel small.”
You swallowed hard. “I know. I’m sorry.”
“I love you,” he said, and somehow, it made it worse. “But I’m not going to stay in something where I’m disrespected.”
It wasn’t a threat.
It was a line in the sand.
Your eyes welled up. “Leon…”
“I’m serious,” he said, softer now, but still unwavering. “You don’t talk to me like that. Not ever again.”
You reached for him—slow, cautious. He didn’t pull away, but he didn’t lean into it either. He let you touch him, let you apologize with your silence, your tears.
“You don’t have to be perfect,” he murmured. “But you do have to be kind.”
And with that, he turned and walked out of the room. Not out of the apartmentbut out of your space. And that hurt more than if he’d slammed the front door behind him.
You didn’t sleep.
You tried. God, you tried. But the bed was too cold without him, and your own thoughts too loud to ignore. You spent the night curled toward his side of the bed, wrapped in his hoodie, replaying every awful word you’d said.
He’d been right. About everything.
And you hated yourself for how easily you’d let your anger become a weapon.
The apartment was quiet when you padded out the next morning. Quiet in the way that meant things were still broken.
Leon stood at the stove, pouring coffee like it was just any other day. He didn’t look up when you entered, but he grabbed your favorite mug and set it on the counter beside his.
Not close. Not far. Just there.
You stepped forward, slow and cautious. “Morning,” you said quietly.
Leon didn’t speak right away. Just sipped from his own cup, eyes fixed out the window.
“I’m sorry,” you said, this time with your whole chest. “I was cruel. I was frustrated and I took it out on you, and that’s not fair. That’s not who I want to be.”
He turned slightly to look at you, face unreadable. “You really hurt me.”
“I know,” you whispered. “That’s what kills me.”
He finally turned to face you fully, mug in his hand. “I meant what I said last night.”
“I know,” you repeated. “And I heard you. I promise, Leon, I did. I would never want to make you feel disrespected—especially not by me. I was angry and scared and you’ve always been the one person I could push and know you wouldn’t leave. And that’s… that’s not love. That’s selfish.”
Leon’s expression shifted, just barely. A flicker of emotion behind the tiredness in his eyes.
“You don’t get to test me like that,” he said, calm but firm. “I’ve seen what it’s like to be taken for granted. I’m not going to let it happen again.”
“I understand,” you said. “I really do. And I’m sorry for putting you in that position. I don’t want to fight with you. I don’t want to hurt you.”
There was a long pause. Then he sighed, slowly, and set his mug down.
He crossed the kitchen until he was in front of you. His hands found your waist—tentative, then steady.
“I know people have hurt you before,” he said softly. “I know you get scared. But I’m not your past. And I’m not the enemy.”
“You’re the person I love more than anything,” you whispered.
He nodded. “Then let’s fight the world. Not each other.”
You launched into his arms, wrapping yourself around him as tight as you could. He held you just as fiercely, one hand cradling the back of your head, the other smoothing circles into your back.
“I hate sleeping without you,” you mumbled.
“I hate going to sleep angry,” he said, pressing his lips to your hair.
You leaned back just enough to see his face. “Can we be okay again?”
Leon brushed a thumb over your cheek, eyes full of something softer now. Something still bruised, but healing. “We’re always gonna have hard moments. But I’m not going anywhere—as long as we remember we’re on the same team.”
You smiled, watery and fragile. “Same team.”
And when he kissed you—slow, deep, forgiving—it felt like coming home.

🎵 couldn’t make it any harder by sabrina carpenter
───────── ౨ৎ ─────────
the crunch of the nut between your teeth echos through your skull, the slightly sweet taste accompanied by the perfect salty aftertaste wrapping around your tongue and attacking your tastebuds. you chew the beer nut slowly, like you're savouring each one you toss in your mouth like it's a game.
after all, it is a game. maybe not the actual eating part, but the part where you keep your eyes trained across the dimly lit bar, gaze never filtering from his as he too tosses individual beer nuts in his mouth.
you're waiting patiently for him to crack—pull a disgusted face, which inevitably he will do. because leon draisital hates beer nuts almost as much as he hates you. you know leon's distaste for the bar snack only because you heard him say the very first time you met 4 years ago, ironically in a bar.
your friend, lauren insisted that you had to meet her boyfriend's teammate—the infamous leon draisaitl. you let her drag you out to a local edmonton bar, one that was too dark and smelt like leather. you let her hype leon up like he was a trophy—like he was going to be your new best friend. but leon was not a trophy. he was pissed off, and when you smiled at him, he scowled in response. and when you tried to give him a handful of beer nuts as a piece offering, leon said; 'I fucking hate those things.'
you tried to chalk it up to a bad night, or maybe even a shitty week. but as months passed, leon never changed. he hated you. if he wasn't completely avoiding eye contact with you, he'd roll his eyes. if you were in the same room, he'd make sure he was across it and far away from you. if leon was anywhere near you, he'd make sure you knew he didn't want to be there. so in return, you decided you hate him more. and oh god, as the years have gone by has that hatred brewed and constricted into an endless loathing and bickering cycle.
slowly, you grab another beer but between your red painted finger nails—red because it's leon's least favourite colour—and bring it up to your lips. you let it rest there for a moment, testing him. is he going to do the same thing? is leon going to play the copy game? just as slow as you, leon reaches into his own jar of beer nuts on the other side of the bar, his much larger fingers bring a single nut up to his lips.
your lips part, and you toss the nut into your mouth. leon does the exact same. you chew as slow as you can once more, savouring the combined flavours because that means leon has to do the same, and you know it must be torture.
and that makes you smile.
just when you think you're going to have to repeat the whole process, there's the smallest pull of disgust across leon's face, and he takes a large gulp of his beer to wash down the nut.
your grin smugly, and without breaking eye contact, you raise the entire jar of beer nuts to your mouth and down the entire thing. you chew happily, and then look away with a satisfying feeling low in your belly.
you spin off the bar stool, fully intending to slink through the crowd until you find one of your friends and then force them to dance with you to take your mind of the german red flag across the bar. but as soon as you spin, you're meeting the eyes of lauren soon to be mcdavid—also known as your best friend.
you jump, a hushed curse passing through your lips as you clutch your thumping heart.
"what are you eating?" lauren asks like she didn't just send your stomach down to your ass. her blue eyes dart over your shoulder to briefly look at the empty jar before she curiously looks back at you.
you're still chewing the mouthful of beer nuts you just shoved in your mouth like a deranged chipmunk. "beer nuts." you say, although it sounds more like deer guts through your full mouth.
but lauren hears you perfectly fine. "beer nuts?" she asks, "seriously? are you and leon playing that stupid game again?" the words beer and nut combined together never fails to send a shiver through your best friends spine—mostly because she knows their tied to leon and your hatred for one another. and then when she remembers that her best friend and her fiances best friend hate each other, she gets another shiver and the whole thing repeats itself.
you swallow the remainder of food roughly, "it's not a game to me," you huff ludicrously, "he's the childish one that feels the need to copy every single move I make—"
"alright," lauren sighs, cutting off the ramble that was surely about to happen, "I get it. i've heard it enough times now, I think I could recite it for you—I'll save you the breath." her tone isn't serious, but you know your and leon's hatred upsets her.
you sigh softly, falling back against the backrest of the bar stool. lauren slips into the empty seat beside you, flagging down one of the bartenders and ordering herself another sex on the beach. once she's done, she turns to look at you. "are you guys going to be able to get along for the wedding?"
the wedding in question is her own—a wedding in which both you and leon where apart of. as much as you love your best friend, and you're looking forward to the royal wedding of the hockey community, you've also been dreading this summer for the exact same reason. and that reason being having to be apart of the same wedding party as leon fucking draisaitl.
your eyes dart back across the bar, and you find that leon is already looking in your direction. he's not alone now, connor and one of connor's childhood friends are sitting with him—chatting and laughing like they have no care in the world. once your eyes meet, leon looks away.
you roll your eyes before looking back at lauren. "if there's no beer nuts there, everything should be hunky dory."
the dig at leon doesn't go unnoticed by her, and lauren sighs again. "y/n, i'm being serious." her and connor's wedding is just under two weeks away, and she honestly didn't think she'd still be dealing with the bickering between you and leon—but here she is, stepping on eggshells around you both.
you frown and run a hand through your bouncy hair. guilt laces through you, "you're right, i'm sorry. I know it's important to you, and i'm trying my best but god, he just...frustrates me so much." you laugh like it's a joke, scratching at your arms as if you're trying to crawl out your body. "I feel like my body is on fire when he's around."
lauren nods emphatically, leaning against the side of your body like she's giving you a hug without arms. "I know it's hard but please, just try. for me."
lauren was one of those girls who has been planning her wedding since she came out the womb. when she was 10 she already had one of those scrapbooks that detailed everything she wanted included on her big day. she's been planning the entire wedding without a planner simply because she wants to. that combined with her clothing brand, you know lauren has enough stress on her plate without having to worry about you war with the german superstar.
that's also a reason you told her not to worry about your birthday that falls in a few days because you knew she had enough to worry about, and planning your party like she does every year needs to be the least of her worries. but you caught her ordering custom balloons two days ago, and you knew you shouldn't attempt to stop her. once lauren has her mind set on something, it's hard to change it.
reluctantly you nod, and a slow smile begins pulling at your lips. your wrap your arms around your small blonde friend, resting your cheek on the top of her head. "of course. i'll be good."
even though leon is the problem, your brain reminds you rudely. you ignore it though, because that's the last thing you should say to her right now.
you feel lauren relax in your arms, but not completely which makes you a bit anxious and feel even more guilty. "thank you." she pulls away, grabbing at your hands and pulling you both off the bar.
the tender slides her drink on the bar top, which connor had already paid for (praise that nhl money), and lauren downs the entire thing instantly. "let's go dance—this is my jam!"
"usher is your jam?" you laugh curiously, letting her bring you out into the heart of the dance floor.
she nods like it's obvious. "oh yeah," lauren's sarcasm is clear, "scream is actually going to be my first dance song."
you cackle your usual loud laugh, falling into lauren's arms as you both dance along to the upbeat bass. "you're such loser!"
"I know!" she smiles, spinning around so fast that her hair smacks your face. "but you love me!"
hours later, after connor has ordered you an uber and sent you home, him and lauren slide into their own. he can tell something is weighing on his fiancés mind by the silence lingering between them, gnawing on the skin of her thumb which she only does when she's anxious.
"hey," connor starts softly, "what's wrong, babe?"
his question is the final nail in the coffin, and immediately lauren is whining, falling against his shoulder dramatically. "what are we going to do?"
"what?" he questions, wildly confused. connor slips his fingers through lauren's straight hair, twisting the strands around his index finger to create little ringlets.
she huffs. "about leon and y/n."
connor's hand stills in her hair. "what about them?"
"connor, seriously?" lauren stresses, sitting back up straight as she turns to look at her fiancé like he just suggested they should call off the wedding. "they hate each other."
"they don't actually." connor laughs, pulling her back into his side. lauren goes easily, but her shoulders are still tense.
"they do." she whines again, "and i'm scared it's going to ruin our wedding. I know y/n, she'd never do anything to hurt me on purpose, but leon brings out this side of her and she just looses control." lauren's bottom lip wobbles as she finishes, and connor spots it immediately.
"hey, it's okay." he whispers, kissing her head. "why don't we like...stuff them in a room and make them sort out there differences. leave them for an hour or two and let them figure it out." connor laughs like it's funny, because for the most part his suggestion was a joke.
but lauren freezes, blinking at connor as she registers the idea. slowly, her lips turn up in a smirk. "actually, that's a great idea."
"hey!" lauren's cheery voice automatically makes you suspicious. this close to the wedding and a more than chipper tone is the recipe for disaster. she continues, her voice grainy through your phones speaker. "can you do me a huuuuggggee favour?"
there it is. you laugh gently, sitting up from your previously slouched position on your rather uncomfortable love seat, pushing the fraying knit blanket off your legs. "what's up?"
you can hear her smile through the phone.  "okay so i'm totally running late at my hair appointment, and I have the wedding chef coming over in 20 for some menu items for the rehearsal dinner, but i'm not going to be there."
your brow quirks curiously. "okay? what do you need from me?"
"I need you to just be there and make sure he gets settled," lauren says, "I'd ask connor but he's on the other side of town. i'll be there as fast as I can. If you could do this for me you'd be the best bridesmaid ever."
"alright," you chime easily, getting of the leather cushions underneath you. "i'll head over now."
"perfect," she says, sounding suspiciously smug. "you know the code! I can't thank you enough, this will be great."
your brows pull tightly and create a dimple in the middle of your forehead. before you can ask her why she's acting so weird, lauren rushes a goodbye and the line goes dead. you blink in surprise, chalking up her behaviour to pre-wedding jitters.
you toe one some flimsy sandals before grabbing your keys and sunglasses, making your way down to the lobby of your apartment building.
the air is warm, and smells like summer. you drive with the windows down for the entire ride to lauren and connor's condo, the air whipping through your hair and warming your skin.
once you arrive at her place, lenny greats you excitedly, tiny yips leaving his wiggling body as he licks your exposed skin—no doubt getting a salty taste of your fake tan. "hey buddy," you greet just as happily, baby voice in full affect, "I missed you my boy."
your phone pings with a text from lauren, 'I've got some menu samples in my beside table. can you grab them once you're there."
you respond quickly and then put your belongings on the crispy clean kitchen island—lenny at your feet as you move. he almost trips you twice, but he's so oblivious and happy with his tongue half way out his mouth, that you don't even care.
you quickly make your way down to her bedroom, pushing open the door and padding inside the carpeted room. you stifle through her beside table, but the only thing you find is a tangled pair of headphones, random hair ties and way too many sleeping masks.
you frown, but figured lauren just misspoke. you round the end of the bed and to connor's nightstand. like you expected, connor's nightstand is freakishly organized. everything has its own compartment—even the condoms for fucks sake.
behind you, lenny's ears perk up and just as quickly he springs out the room, leaving you alone and more than anything, confused. where are the damn menu samples? you scan the room quickly, hands on your hips as you try and think of where your best friend would stick them. the sound of socked feet approaching have you spinning to face the door. lenny bounds back in first, and then leon appears.
"what are you doing here?" he asks, face nothing but taken back.
you cross your arms, "what are you doing here?"
"I asked you first."
"you're so annoying, oh my god," you groan dramatically, and it makes lenny bark before he's running back out the room. soon enough, you think, you'll be following him. you continue, "i'm helping lauren. she needs me to get some menu samples and then wait for the chef."
leon chuckles like he's in on some joke you've been left out of, his hands tucked causally into the front pockets of his jeans. you grimace at the sight because it's way to hot out to have your legs fully covered. "well I'm here to do the exact same thing. except connor asked me."
you scoff. "lauren said he's on the other side of town and can't be here. that's why she sent me."
"funny," leon scoffs a laugh, "because connor said the same thing about lauren—hence why i'm here."
you drops your arms to your sides ludicrously, looking at leon with the upmost displeasure on your face. "okay, well clearly someone fucked up—you, most likely," you pause and leon rolls
his eyes. "but let's just find these menus so that we can both leave. I don't want to be in a confined space with you for any longer than necessary."
"awh, you're so sweet." leon says, voice dropping with venom and sarcasm. he walks further into the room, movements casual as he brushes straight past you, his bare bicep bumping your shoulder. "you can't find the menu's?"
"no," you stress, following him as he makes his way to connor's beside table. "and I already checked in there."
leon checks anyways and that has you rolling your eyes. "okay, well you're awful at looking for things, so double checking is necessary."
"double checking is necessary," you mock, voice all high pitched an annoying.
he sends you a look over his broad shoulder, "are you done?"
you don't answer, turning on your heels and walking over to the built in book cases that line the entire wall. the shelves they're packed, mostly with aesthetic looking pieces that are so shiny and white they make your head hurt. you begin poking through the collection of books, searching for the menu samples—huffing quietly to yourself anytime you remember that leon is also in the room.
he makes his way over to the book shelves as well, opting to look through the case on the opposite side of the open door. he is still too close for your liking, but you're not going to start that argument. you can't see him past the door, and you can only hear him mutter curse words to himself as his search is unsuccessful.
"why don't you just text lauren and ask her?"
you scoff, "why don't you just text connor?"
"my phones in the car."
"and mines in the kitchen."
"are you seriously that lazy that you can’t go down the hall and get your phone?" he asks incredulously, looking at you over the edge of the door, book shelf long forgotten.
you laugh. "of course not! I just don't feel the need when we can just look ourselves."
leon goes to take a step towards you, because he knows that you’re not looking properly through the books on that side, and he bumps the door, sending it to shut with a dull thud.
your breath hitches as the code system stares back at you. "you better know the code for that."
"why would I know the code?" his eyes find yours, looking at you like you've just suggested world war 3.
you try to open the door, but much to you dismay it's locked. you're locked in a room with leon draisaitl. "no," you whine, jiggling the handle more aggressively in hopes it decides to magically unlock. obviously, it doesn't.
"jesus," he huffs, "relax."
"oh, i'm sorry!" you look at him wildly, "i'm just a little bit upset about being trapped in a room with the spawn of satan—my apologies for trying to get out."
"spawn of satan?" he repeats, words laced with what you're pretty sure is amusement. it makes your blood boil. "don't call yourself that, y/n."
"you must have a death wish."
"oh, I must."
you squint pointedly, lips twitching in a frown. "whatever." you mumble dismissively, turning heel and making your way back to the perfectly made bed in the middle of the room.
leon watches as you sit down on the corner of the mattress, bringing your feet up and resting your arches on the frame of the bed. you're not wearing socks, and your toenails are painted navy blue. he notes that you must've worn some sort of flip flop.
you catch his eyes and scowl. "what?"
"should you really be sitting on their bed? rubbing your feet all over a frame that probably costs more than your monthly salary."
"would you prefer I do jumping jacks?" you question even though you're not wanting an answer. "hate to break it to you draisaitl, but this isn't the first time i've been in this room. or on this bed."
leon snickers, walking towards you. "right, yes I forgot that lauren is cursed with spending time with you."
you roll your eyes and don't say anything.
he continues. "they'll be here soon."
"not soon enough."
this time it's leon who doesn't respond to your condescending comment, but instead slumping down in the sherpa oversized chair in the corner of the room. he picks up one of the table books, some kind of chanel picture one, and begins flipping through the pages.
everytime he flips the page, much louder than necessary, you sigh in exasperation—which only eggs him on.
5 minutes later you hear two sets of feet padding down the hall, and your eyes widen, shooting off the bed so fast that you almost trip over your own feet.
"y/n?" the muffled voice of lauren calls curiously on the other side of the bedroom door. "leon?"
"we're in here." you say, jiggling the handle again for good measure.
"how'd this happen?" connor is the one asking, his voice laced with what can only be described as amusement.
leon joins you at the door. "the door shut obviously."
"no," you correct quickly, "leon's clumsy, big body knocked into it. trapping us." you stress wildly, eyeing the man in question with displeasure.
his brows raise in faux excitement. "you think i'm big?"
your eyes roll again—you won’t be surprised if they get stuck on the next round. you turn your attention back to the closed door, "guys, what's the code so we can get out."
neither lauren or connor answer. your brows pull, arms crossing roughly across your flowing summer top. you can hear their hushed whispers through the door, which only raises your and leon's suspicion.
finally, lauren says, "actually, I think you guys should stay in there."
leon blinks hard. "what?"
"yeah, sorry repeat that, I don't think I heard you right. because it sounded like you want us to be stuck in here together." you add, body feeling hot and itchy as the situation comes to light. or maybe it's just because leon's standing close enough that is cologne is all you can smell—practically choking you at this point.
connor's sighs, "you guys need to work it out."
your eyes flutter in disbelief, and you take a step closer to the door like it's going to change something. "okay, how about we do that somewhere else?"
leon hums in agreement which makes you scowl.
"no." lauren huffs, her voice determined. and you know, like usual, once she has her mind set, she's not going to change it. "in our room. with no escape."
after their conversation in the uber a few days ago, lauren and connor decided that yes, they were actually going to get you and leon together and force you to reconcile. it was actually connor who said they should separately tell you that they needed help with the chef and the menu samples, and then while you were distracted trying to find them—which were actually in the kitchen, not the bedroom—they would shut you in the apartment.
so when they showed up, ready to shut the front door that's unlock didn't work if it was locked from the outside, they were surprised to find neither of you in sight. thanks to their coded bedroom, you'd been already trapped.
to which they say, tomato tamoto.
"this is ridiculous." leon huffs in annoyance, reaching out to tug on the brass door handle. the action annoys you, even though you were close to doing the same.
lauren laughs like it's a joke. "no what's ridiculous is ruining a wedding because you two can't stop lunging for each others necks." her voice is firm, definitive as she continues, "so you have an hour and by then you better be friends. or friendly. whatever."
"you can't serious." leon's laughing is laced with disbelief, not even sparing you a glance as he stares down the wood paneling of the bedroom door.
"deadly." she says, "see you guys in an hour. we're gunna run some errands." her voice slowly begins to fade, walking away and leaving you.
"I thought that’s what you were just doing," you call out.
"we lied."
soon enough you and leon are enveloped in the silence, and once lenny's little nails click down the hall, you are left completely alone.
you exhale a scoff, turning away and practically stomp back to the bed. leon watches you move with an unreadable expression, but you’re too busy throwing yourself down onto the bed to notice.
the blankets puffs around you. its own of those feathered ones that poke you once it starts getting wear and tear, and that makes you more annoyed that it should. but you chalk that up to already being baffled by being trapped in your best friends bedroom.
leon's voice breaks through the quiet room, "well now what?"
you sigh, sliding up onto your elbows to send him an unimpressed look. "don't you know, leon? this is the part where we get out the tea set and play!" the faux smile on your face quickly drops as you finish, and that makes leon rolls his eyes with agitation.
"you're ridiculous."
you don't say anything and send him one more exaggerated grin. you flop back against the mattress. it's actually a heavenly bed besides the blanket, which thankfully hasn't poked you yet.
the first 30 minutes is nothing but silent. the only sounds coming from the air conditioning unit humming lowly through the vents and the blanket shuffling under your body as you squirm. you can't help it, the silence is eating you alive.
"can you stop moving so much?"
you make a show of moving even more as you sit up on the bed, shuffling down to the edge and letting your legs dangle over the end. "i'm a bit restless, you know being trapped in a room with nothing but you and your loud breathing."
leon's brows furrow. "I don't breathe loud."
"you do," you confirm, "it's fucking annoying."
"ah," he chimes, "like your sporadic limbs."
"that's a big word, leon. have you been studying the dictionary like the bore you are?"
he breathes a scoff, "you wish I was a bore, y/n. that way you wouldn't be so obsessed with me."
"obsessed with you," you repeat, laughing, "you are so full of yourself!"
leon stands up, and your face falls, watching him through hooded lids as his jaw ticks, eyes pointed in your direction. just when you think he's going to walk closer to you, he turns, looking through the bookshelves like he hasn't done that already.
you swallow roughly, staring the his back as he moves—slowly—reading the spines of designer books and hockey novels. his tight t-shirt is doing him all the favours, wrapping around his body in a perfect fit to display the muscles he's worked hard on. sometimes, you forget leon is an athlete rather than just your friends friend, and you’re always crudely reminded by his bulging biceps or his abs in the summertime as he lounges by the pool—seeing him like that is a rude awakening.
thinking about leon's abs, dripping with water while he lounges poolside has you feeling a bit funny, and you blink. hard. pulling yourself out of your own head. oddly enough, your mind trickles to lauren and the many times she's referred to abs as washboards.
you sigh gently. getting into a verbal ring with her finances best friend is the last thing she needs to be dealing with right now. a rush of guilt washes over you, and as not only her bridesmaid but her closest friend, you know you need to abide her wishes and figure your shit out.
"leon." you say his name firmly.
he looks at you over his shoulder, one of his eyebrows raised in question as he waits for you to continue.
"we have to stop fighting. for lauren."
leon turns his body completely, facing you. "you think I don't know that, y/n?"
you huff. "I never said that you didn't, leon. but this is my best friend's wedding."
"and mine."
"god, do you always have something snarky to say back?" you ask, exasperated. "this is exactly what we can't be doing. at least i'm trying, leon. ugh! you drive me insane.
his eyes widen slightly, taking a subconscious step closer to you. "and you think you're just some angel?"
you shake your head, shooting off the bed until you're standing—a subconscious attempt at trying to give yourself some leverage. "I think that you're stubborn and can't accept my ideas."
"and what 'Ideas' might those be?" he asks, mockingly.
"we need to pretend to get along," you pitch, voice still laced with venom and irritation. "if we can't get over this thing between us, then we have to fake it. you have to pretend like you can at least tolerate me—that you can stand to be in the same room as me without ripping me a new one."
his expression is unreadable, jaw tight and eyes unmoving as he looks down at you. then, slowly, his gaze changes. "you want me to act like you don't drive me insane?"
your face falls slightly at his tone—a tone that has a weird feeling bubbling low in your belly. you nod.
leon purses his lips, looking away from your face to take a deep, long inhale like he's trying to clam himself. it's making you feel woozy. he looks back at you, something like frustration clouding his expression. "you want me to just pretend that you don't make me want to argue every little thing you say? like everything little thing you do frustrates me in ways I cant explain?"
your lips part, searching for words that aren't there. the way leon is looking at you, with so much tension and frustration has you faltering. you've never been speechless in his presence, and leon knows that—he sees that—and takes the opportunity to continue.
"have I finally got you to shut your mouth? or do you want me to keep going?"
your breathe hitches, a wave of heat flushing over your summer tanned skin. the way his gaze is unwavering and so intense has your blood pumping so hard that the only thing you can hear is the heavy breathing between you.
"please," slips out of your mouth before you can stop it, the plea whiny and surprising to you—desperate.
leon exhales shakily, but the sound is just as desperate as the breath that gets caught in your throat. he lunges towards you, one hand sliding through your hair and tugging while the other finds the dip of your waist, dragging you against him as he kisses you.
his lips caress yours hungrily, sucking and licking along the plump flesh almost instantly. it's hurried and messy and intoxicating. both your your panting is combined, mixing with breathy groans and clashing of tongues and teeth. it's dirty and it's sure as hell needy.
and maybe it’s because you haven’t been with a man in years, or maybe it’s simply because you’re annoyed with the situation. but you want leon.
he grunts into your mouth, fisting your hair hard enough to illicit a whine from you. your hands, which were previously stationed over his torso, running over his shirt like a mad woman, slide into leon's hair, feeling his soft locks between your fingers—painted red nails scratching against his scalp.
his hands cascade down your body, wrapping around the backs of your thighs. before you can register what's happening, leon hauls you off the ground and drops you down against the feather filled duvet.
everything is hurried between you and leon, including the continuing kiss. his hands are running all over your body—up your thighs as he hovers over you, sliding under your summer top and feeling your soft, supple skin. and you're not any better, squeezing his arms and holding his face.
there's a burning tension between you, like there always is, expect now your irritation and frustration is channeled into a kiss—a hot, messy exchange that is leaving you so turned on.
leon's lips trail over your jaw, nipping and suckling along your skin like he can't get enough of your taste. you're withering against him, gasping as his lips travel down your neck, finding your pulse point and sucks.
the beeping sound echos through the room, barley audible over your panting and low moans, but you both hear it. the door is about to open. you pull away from one another at lightning speed, leon getting off the bed completely as he swallows thickly.
you run your hand through your messy hair just as the bedroom door opens, revealing a curious looking connor and a hesitant looking lauren. they're both eyeing you, but it's connor who speaks first. "so? can we count on you guys behaving?"
you blink before looking over at leon. but he's not looking at you, only at connor as he nods once—firmly. then leon walks out of the room, brushing past his teammate and fiancé without so much as a second glance at you.
you gulp, a million emotions clawing at your flushed chest.
lauren still looks unconvinced, raising one of her perfectly plucked brows in your direction—eyeing your slight pant and hazy eyes. "everything go okay."
"yeah," you nod, the smallest scoff leaving you. "and if it didn't, we can just pretend." the word feels like venom on your tongue. there's a part of you that thinks what just happened between you and leon was all pretend. a regretful moment that was nothing more than a source to channel pent up frustration and years of anger.
it meant nothing. leon still hates you. and you...don't know what the fuck just happened.
like you suspected, lauren throws you a birthday party. a surprise one at that, even though you knew exactly what was going on when connor texted you and asked you for help on picking out flowers for the rehearsal dinner.
bad distraction on his part, because lauren ordered the flowers for the rehearsal dinner two weeks ago while you were beside her. you went along anyways, and even acted surprised when everyone jumped out from different areas of the mcdavid/kyle condo.
lauren squeezes you tightly, "happy birthday!"
"thanks," you hug her back just as tightly, "I told you that you didn't need to do anything like this. I would've been happy with some wine and reruns of friends."
she rolls her eyes fondly, guiding you further into the crowded home. "I know you would've been, but I certainly wouldn't have." and that's the most lauren thing she could've said, and it makes your smile grow wide.
there's a lot of people here, you note. mostly mutual friends and connor's teammates and their significant others. it's decorated beautifully, with all your favourite picky foods laid out on the island and a makeshift bar along with it.
people greet you enthusiastically, wishing you a happy birthday as you make your rounds through the party, lauren at your side—who you're pretty sure is already halfway to hammered.
mikayla nurse gives you a bear hug, which she always does, and darnell follows suit. "happy birthday!" he says, pulling back and taking his original seat on one of the barstools against the stark white island. ryan nugent hopkins and his girl do the same, all of you flowing into easy conversation.
mikayla is in the middle of talking about something funny her oldest did before her and darnell left, when your body ignites. it's an odd feeling, but one you're used to at this point. subtly, your gaze shifts down the island and that's when you see him.
leon is leaning on the counter causally, fingers running along the neck of a beer bottle as zach hyman and him talk about whatever it is they're talking about—frankly, you don't care to know what their discussing.
you haven't seen or heard from leon since your kiss 3 days ago. you weren't expecting to feel so many emotions after getting kissed by your mortal enemy, but you are. you think it probably has to do with how he just up and left afterwards, like he couldn't give a fuck about you, which in hindsight he probably doesn't. he never has, your brain reminds you.
as if he can feel your state, his eyes flicker to yours. leon's expression changes, so subtle that it's almost unnoticeable. his fingers still on the beer bottle. you look away just as quick as you looked, turning your attention back to the group in front of you—nodding along like you know what they're in the middle of talking about.
you need a shot. or 6.
and shots you have. lauren is the one who starts it, like usual, insisting that the birthday girl needed a celebratory shot of tequila. then that turned into two, and then three and before you know it you can barley feel your limbs. you're loose, and happy and very much drunk.
it makes being in the same room as leon more tolerable for the mere fact that you keep forgetting he's there. it's only when he laughs too loudly, or someone says his name in your vicinity that you find yourself searching for him. not without immediately cursing yourself for it though.
it's nearing 2 in the morning when lauren grabs on to your arm, her expression hopeful and excited. "oh my god," she slurs, "we need to go swim."
you gasp with enthusiasm. "yes! oh my god, lauren I love you so much—what a good fucking Idea."
everyone has left by now. going home to their kids and going to sleep. the thought makes you feel a little down, because the only person you're going home to is damon fucking salvatore. ah, yes the old birthday depression moment. but thankfully lauren snaps you out of it, dragging you out of the apartment and down the hall to the rooftop.
the heavy metal door clicks open, revealing the blue light of the large pool. it smells so good—like summer—and you groan. "oh my god, yes!"
neither you or lauren bother stripping, and you jump into the pool fully clothed. the water splashes therapeutically as you are submerged under the warm water. it feels amazing, and you kick your legs until you're breaking through the surface.
lauren giggles, treading her hands over the waters surface. "it feels so good."
"I know," you agree quickly, eyes fluttering in bliss.
"lauren." connor's voice is stern, but there's a hint of amusement there that he only saves for his fiancé and her drunk shenanigans. "we're not supposed to be out here at night. let's go."
you didn't even notice he followed you guys out here and you blink in surprise—you also giggle, which has connor sending you a sharp look.
lauren makes a fart noise, but lets her fiancé help her out of the pool. water drips off her clothes like a waterfall, soaking the pavement under her feet. connor ushers her back to the door, saying something that you can't quite make out before leaving you alone.
the water is sobering you up a little, but you're still tipsy enough that everything feels like silk. you dip your head back, soaking your hair and covering the tips of your ears.
you're floating, listening to the muffled sounds of the city night life below. its peaceful, and you think you could stay out here forever. your eyes are only fluttering closed for a moment, and when you open them again you see leon.
he's watching you, hands on his hips from the side of the pool—looking anything but amused. you hadn't even noticed him come out, but you also didn't notice connor so that doesn't mean anything.
too drunk to be scared by his sudden appearance, you just laugh, swimming into an upright position and facing leon. your tank top is sticking to your skin uncomfortably, and if you were sober you'd probably be having a sensory overload.
"get out of the pool" his voice is demanding and unarguable.
you lazily shread water, blinking the pool sting out of your eyes. "why would I do what you ask me to?"
leon scoffs a half hearted laugh, looking away from you momentarily. when he meets your gaze again, you’re still grinning—a little up to no good smirk that has leon gulping. "don't be annoying," he says, "get out before something happens. like connor said, you're not supposed to be in here."
"oh wow is that a threat, mr. drasitail?" you laugh.
he tongues his cheek, "you're drunk."
you toe the rough side of the pool and gently kick off, sending yourself back floating through the water. "tipsy, but sure." leon's shoulder deflate in what's surely annoyance, and he runs a hand over his face. even drunk, you know you're being difficult, but you're not going to give up that easy. "you know, you can't annoy me today. it's my birthday."
leon licks his teeth slowly. he tries to keep his eyes off you and your completely see through tank top as you glide through the water, but he can't help himself, gaze flickering back to you. "I wouldn't have to annoy you if you'd just get out of the pool."
your shoulders drop. "you're such a buzz kill," you grumble, swimming to the edge of the pool once again, right in front of leon. your hands grip the edge, and you blink up at him with wet lashes. "can you at least help me out?"
he gulps, adam's apple bobbling under his stubbled skin. "legs broken or something?" he mumbles with something unknown lacing his tone—doubt, disbelief, want—as he looks into your wet eyes.
you ignore him, raising your palm in his direction and wiggling your fingers. for a moment the action sends you off balance, and you begin slipping backwards. leon’s eyes widen, twitching is if he's going to reach out and grab you, but you catch yourself before he can.
he huffs again, gaze darting between your hand and daring eyes. “don't leave me hanging on my birthday, leon,” you say.
"it's not your birthday anymore, y/n." leon deadpans after a moment.
you pout and he sighs, closing the distance between you and taking your slick palm in his. just before he pulls you out, you use the leverage to tug his arm down towards you, sending leon off balance and into the pool next to you with a loud splash.
he breaks the surface at record speed, looking at you with what can only be described as frustration. he splutters, wiping his face of chlorine scented water droplets. "seriously?"
you bite your tongue in an attempt to mask your growing smirk, "you looked hot."
"thanks," he mumbles playfully, shoulders dripping under the water as he treads.
"don't flatter yourself." you huff, momentarily stopping your own feet from treading water to nudge his leg under the surface.
a beat passes. the sounds of rippling water and heavy breathing the only things to be heard between you.
leon breaks the tension, voice gruff. "are you going to get out now?"
you shrug, and your chin dips under the surface. "are you not going to ask me how my birthday was?" ask comes out in a slur, and it makes leon's jaw tick.
"if I do will you get out of the pool?"
"yes." you grin softly, chin submerging once again.
"okay." he hums, looking very much unimpressed. "how was your birthday?"
your grin deepens, "it was good," you say, "got everything I could've ever asked for."
"mhmm," he hums, brow raised curiously, "and what did you ask for? one of those grow your own boyfriends?"
you laugh, the sound forced and very much sarcastic. "just a dart board with your face on it, actually."
he blows out some air, very amused, "ou good one." then like a child he shakes out his hair, water sliding off his strands and spraying you.
"hey!" you shout, turning your face away from the water attack.
"relax," he chimes, "you're not going to melt."
you look back at leon, a look of amused disbelief flashing over your features as your lip tugs upwards. "maybe I will. I am a witch after all."
leon hesitates, something he rarely does. he wants to look away, your wet lashes and pink lips too intense—too tempting—but he forces himself to to hold your unknowing gaze. "you're something."
your mouth parts, "you're something." you repeat, voice all high pitched and mocking as you splash some water in his direction, the small wave hitting his chin.
he licks onto his lower lip, watching your smile grow as you wait for his next move. just when you think you're not going to get a rise out of him, leon moves. he grabs your ankle under the water, so quick that it makes you squeal, and pulls you against his chest.
the laughter that had previously been bubbling up and past your lips comes to a sharp halt, and you’re left blinking in surprise as your body intertwines with leon's. you're both completely clothed, but it feels like your stark naked. the heat between you is implausible, chest heaving and breathes mingling.
his hand grips your knee firmly before he releases—but he’s not done. leon fingers skim up your thigh, so gentle that it's ticklish. you want to squirm, but you're too scared it will end the tension filled moment. his palm runs over your hip, feeling your soaked jean shorts under his palm.
your breath catches, the sound just gentle enough to reach leon's ears. his eyes dart to your wet, plump lips and he feels himself twitch. when his eyes meet yours again, you swallow, arms slowing down in the thread.
"are you going to kiss me and then leave again like nothing happened?" you don't have time to curse your drunk tongue, because leon answers almost instantly, voice surprisingly smooth and clear, but still deep enough to have your stomach swoop.
"you want me to do that?" he asks you, pushing some wet hair off your shoulder, further exposing your sun kissed, freckled skin.
you lick your bottom lip. "depends what part you're talking about."
his eyes dart back down to yours lips at the sight, watching as your tongue swipes along your lip. your faces are so close that the tips of your noses are almost brushing. you're practically panting, wrapped around leon like a koala as he threads water for the both of you.
you could be staring at each other for 20 minutes, or twenty seconds. you're unsure. time has gone completely still, slowing down like sticky molasses as you and leon exchange longing, needy stares.
your mouth opens, ready to beg him once again, but he unwraps you from his body, hands finding your hips and lifting you out of the pool. you blink, shock and confusion flashing on your face as leon sits you on the edge.
he doesn't look at you as he pulls himself out of the pool effortlessly, but you watch him. his biceps flex under his once light gray, soaked t-shirt, and if you weren't so overcome with frustration and confusion you'd be blushing.
he gets up on to his feet, "let's go, y/n." leon's tone leaves no room for argument, and he's already waking towards the heavy, metal door that leads back to the condo complex.
you scoff, getting up onto your own feet. "dick," you mumble to yourself, lips tugging down in a frown and gaze pointed as you watch leon's retreating figure.
you don't know if he hears your curse, but if he doesn't he doesn't turn around to dispute with you. you could be annoying, jump back in the pool and make him drown in his own frustration. but you don't. you're tired, shocked, angry and most of all, embarrassed.
"y/n!" lauren says your name happily, and tipsily, stumbling over to you through the party bus and practically falling into your lap. she smiles, thrusting a shot of some white liquor in your direction, "do this shot with me!"
you smile and that's when you notice she's got the same liquor in her shot glass—a gift from alannah hyman. it's milky white and says bride in script on the side in big, sparkly letters.
you take the shot from her, "are you trying to get me drunk before we even get there?"
she nudges it closer to your mouth, a giggle spilling past her painted lips. "well it is a wedding party! so yes."
fondly, your eyes roll which only makes lauren squawk. you send her a real smile before bringing the glass to your mouth and tipping it back, downing the shot of what you know know is vodka, in a huge gulp.
your grimace, body doing a funny little shiver as the liquor coats your throat and warms your skin. the air conditioning isn't a match for the humid july night, and you're practically dripping with sweat. actually, everyone on the bus is dripping with sweat, but most of them are already so tipsy that it doesn't matter.
when lauren told you in addition to separate bachelor and bachelorette parties she was going to throw a joint one, you were a little hesitant. I mean, you love your friend and will do anything to make her happy—so you bit your tongue—but the idea of having to spend even more time with leon has your blood curdling, especially after the whole pool indecent a few days ago.
once again, you haven't seen leon since the almost kiss in the pool, which has you feeling even more embarrassed than before. you're not sure what's been unlocked with leon, but since your actual kiss in lauren and connor's bedroom almost a week ago, there's been a funny feeling lingering in your head.
you're not sure what it is, or how it makes you feel. all you do know is that it makes you hot and nervous and angry all at once. so really, nothing has changed.
so today, you'd been feeling extremely anxious. you thought about reaching out to leon—having his number saved from many years of being in the same random group chats—but you decide against it. after all, he's clearly not interested in fixing the hostility between you, and you're not going to be some desperate, submissive girl who just backs down and lets him win. absolutely not.
when you were all piling onto the party bus, leon nowhere in sight, you couldn't help but feel a rush of excitement (and maybe a little disappointment, but you don't even admit that to yourself). when you casually asked connor about it in passing, he looked at pointedly, "he's got some shit he needs to figure out with his agent, so he's going to meet us there."
you couldn't even hide your eye roll at that. you think the real reason he's not traveling on the party busy is because he probably just didn't want to get forced to dance on the stripper pole in the middle of the bus—he's so boring.
the bus comes to halt outside the bustling club, and everyone inside cheers. so loudly it makes your cringe a little, but you digress. lauren wraps her arm around yours, bringing you both off the bus and into the modern, sleek night club.
the music inside is instantly deafening, some kendrick lamar song that you've heard on the radio for three months straight. you're already feeling buzzed from the shot in the bus, and the one you did at connor and lauren's before your ride came.
"hey!" connor comes up behind you both, wrapping his arm around his fiancés waist as he speaks over the music. "we've got a table booked on the platform, so I'm gunna get up there."
lauren grins, placing a smacking kiss against the corner of his mouth. "okay," she shouts, "we're gunna dance."
he nods with one of those reserved-for-only-lauren grins before leaving you both, making his way through the crowd with the bachelor party.
lauren shakes your arm excitedly, "let's get a drink and then fucking dance, baby!"
you easily get lost in the feeling of the music and the warmth of the crowd. you and lauren dance together for what feels like hours, downing shots and sipping cocktails until way past the achy feeling starts in your feet. other girls from the bachelorette party join in, all of you screaming along to lyrics and dancing against one another like silly, drunk college kids.
leon walks into the club around 10, exhausted and wanting nothing more than to go home. for days he's been flustered and angry, brain scrambled with a mess of thoughts—working overtime and keeping him up at night. the meeting with his agent ended almost two hours ago, but he needed time to collect himself before joining the wedding party.
before seeing you.
connor's brother spots him first, calling his name in a sing song voice that instantly has leon peeking up, plastering on a smile as he climbs the stairs of the platform. the boys begin chatting his name like a group of seagulls, gathering the attention of many lingering bystanders in the night club—it makes leon shiver with discomfort. but thankfully, no one notices.
he's never been a fan of crowds, or attention, but being one of hockey's biggest stars quickly had him getting used to it. bars and clubs though, they will never be his thing.
someone thrusts a beer bottle in his hand, and he takes it greedily, popping off the cap before taking three large gulps. the foam coats his lips, dripping down his chin before he wipes it away.
the platform overlooks the face floor. it's secluded enough to feel private, but still open enough to not feel like you're missing out on the fun. leon finds himself looking through the crowd, beer bottle handing loosely in his grip as he searches.
it's not hard to find you, or any of the girls for that matter. you're all wearing variations of white and cream, which glows blue in the black lights scattered around the club. you're dancing against lauren, hands up in the air as you sway and sing along to some mainstream pop song leon has never heard.
you're covered in a sheer layer of sweat, making your tan skin glow. you look happy, and so tempting. as if you can feel his stare, your eyes find his. as they meet, your movements falter, and your face drops.
leon swallows roughly, pushing off the balcony and forcing himself to break eye contact. his blood feels like it's boiling, burning him from the inside out. he forces another mouthful of beer down, turning his attention back to some of connor's childhood buddies, easily sliding into their conversation.
your teeth clench as your eyes linger on the place leon was just stood, watching you with an unreadable expression. everything feels too constricting now, too warm. it feels like his eyes are still on you—even when you turn back to lauren and she starts doing a terrible rendition of the sprinkler. you can't shake him.
so when a large hand wraps around your waist, and an attractive man appears behind you, you don't stop him. he's not super tall, and his hair is so dark it's almost pure black. clean shaven, with soft hands and smelling like smoke and whiskey.
he's nothing like leon, and that makes you grin. you allow yourself to get wrapped up in the man, dancing with him like your life depends on it. his breathe is warm against your ear, "you're really sexy." his fingers dig into your arm, almost too roughly.
but you smile regardless, "you use that line on all the girls?"
"can't give away my secrets." he grins. his smile is nowhere as nice at leon's though. the man licks onto his bottom lip slowly, "wanna get out of here?"
you hum thoughtfully, looking around the crowded dance floor. when you meet mystery man's eyes, he's hopeful, and it makes you sigh regretfully. "sorry, i'm here with my friends."
"ah."
"yeah," you nod, "thanks for the dance but clearly we're not on the wavelength here. i'm gunna get back to them." you turn, but before you can disappear back into the heart of the dance floor, he grabs your arm.
leon is practically burning as he watches you dance with the short, finance looking bro from the platform. his teeth are aching from how hard he's clenching, and he's pretty sure the glass bottle is about to crack in his palm.
he's angry. he's in disbelief. he's fucking jealous. leon has never felt this level of jealousy before, and he's not even sure if that's what it actually is. it's a white hot fire stick, poking at his chest until he recoils.
you're laughing. and smiling. the guys hands low on your back and running over your hips. a few nights ago that was leon touching you there, and that only fuels his frustration. he watches the two of you talk, a hesitant look on your face that has his stomach dropping.
he stands up straighter, shoulders rigid. leon's scowling at the mystery guy, whispering in your ear as he says whatever shitty pickup line leon has no doubt the dudes used on multiple woman in this club.
then you start walking away, and relief begins to trickle in his bloodstream. unfortunately it doesn't last long, because when the guy reaches for you, grabbing you arm and tugging you back towards him, leon sees red.
you squeak at the feeling of the man's hand on your bicep, squeezing you hard enough that you can feel it in your bones.
"we can keep dancing," he tells you, firmly, "i'm not some dick who's going to act like getting rejected is a personal attack."
you tug your arm away, "i'm sorry, but i'm done dancing right now. it was nice meeting you."
the man's laugh makes you shiver unpleasantly. "you got a boyfriend or something? is that why you're acting like a-" his words are cut short as leon's fist flies, hitting him across the face in a quick, hard punch.
you gasp, a sickening crack echoing in your ears as his knuckles connects with the guys nose. he grabs it, blood seeping through his fingers and dripping onto his blue button up.
leon's not phased, flexing his fingers causally—like he didn't just punch a random guy in the face.
"oh my god," you shout, rushing forward to check on the guy and his obviously damaged face. the crowd stops all around you, whispering and pointing at the scene like it's a movie. your mouth opens, shocked, looking between the mystery guy and leon. "what the fuck!"
leon huffs, sending you a sharp glance before turning on his heels and pushing through the crowd. it feels like everyone is looking at him, judging him, and it has him feeling breathless. angrily, he shoves the doors of the nightclub open, stepping out onto the sidewalk and taking a deep breathe.
he rubs the back of his neck roughly, a curse leaving his lips. leon feels embarrassed about letting his emotions take control like that, but the anger seeing that guy grabbing you—pulling you—has his embarrassment fading away, replaced with fury.
the air feel nice, even though the july air is humid and thick, it's much better the the stuffy club. leon walks to the stone half wall that frames the greeny along the club, taking a seat on the lip with another rough sigh. he's only alone for about a minute before the club doors swing open, and you come storming out.
your eyes are wide—frantic even—searching the sidewalk until your eyes land on him. that's when your face falls, arms crossed defensively as you stare at him.
leon swallows, shrugging his shoulders. "is he hurt?" he asks, even though he already saw the answer.
"his nose is broken." you deadpan.
"good." he hums, checking his knuckles quickly. ones split, but he'll fix it later.
you laugh in disbelief, "good?"
"yeah," he confirms, eyes finding yours again. you've stepped closer in the time he was looking at his hand, and you look even angrier up close. "he shouldn't of touched you like that."
you shake your head. "I can handle myself."
leon snorts. "clearly not, y/n."
you make a scoffing noise, arms tightening further across the white dress wrapped tightly across your chest. "I was actually having a good time," you start, voice firm but tinged with something else, "but thanks to you, my night is ruined."
"I know you y/n," he deadpans, standing up from the wall, "your idea of a good time and his idea of a good time is vastly different. he was going to try something." leon walks closer to you, fists clenching and unclenching at his sides like he doesn't know what to do with them.
the tone of his voice, so frustrated, has you shocked. the audacity of leon to be upset with you after he punched a poor guy in the face is beyond you. your arms uncross, falling against your hips with a smack. "and so what?" you question, "what's it matter to you? why do you care?"
your voice has gotten louder, more venomous. it makes leon laugh roughly, looking down you with cynicism. "why do I care?" he practically shouts, reaching out and almost touching your exposed shoulder. "you're..." leon stops himself, a gentle curse leaving him. he huffs loudly, running a hand down his face in a slow but rough way.
a moment passes. cars passing and honking down the street, club music vibrating the concrete below your heels. your eyes don’t leave leon's figure, which is practically vibrating with emotion.
you swallow, voice much more quiet when you say, "I'm what?"
"ungrateful." he grunts.
your lips pull into a frown as the bridge of your nose begins to string. "screw you." with one more furious look in his direction, you turn heel, shoes clicking on the pavement as you make your way back to the nightclub's entrance.
you're so angry. it's fuelling your blood stream and stopping your feet. your arms cross again, eyes pinched as you turn back around. you're not done with him yet. "do you ever think about things before opening your mouth?"
leon looks shocked momentarily, but he recovers quickly. he shoves his hands into his jean pockets, nodding slowly. "yes."
"oh really?" you ask, "like when?"
"I thought about not answering your question just now."
"oh grow up!"
"i'm grown."
"really?" you ask wildly, "is that why you punched a guy in the face?"
"a guy who deserved it!"
"for dancing with me?"
"for touching what's not his."
that has you faltering, leon's words hitting you like a slap to the face. he knows that what he just said was possessive—uncalled for. he has no right to say that to you, you're certainly not his to claim. it's the jealously getting the best of him and wanting to make you feel how he's feeling.
and it worked. guilt tickles your skin and pales your face, looking back at leon with a straight face. you feel like you've done something wrong by dancing with that guy—like you've done him wrong. "oh, okay then," you start, voice timid and so gentle that it has leon faltering. "who's am I? please enlighten me."
he knows he can't keep going down this route with you. he'll regret it.  leon takes a slow, deep breath, shaking his head. "i'm not playing this game."
that's rich, you think, considering he's the one who starts all these stupid games you find yourself unable to untangle yourself from. you can't help but laugh with false humor, "oh but you love games!"
"y/n," leon sighs tiredly, "stop."
connor comes bustling out of the club, and much like your expression and wandering eyes from 5 minutes ago, he's looking for leon just like you had. once he spots you in a stand off, leon's jaw tight and your eyes misty, he all but stomps up to the both of, face painted and livid. "are you guys seriously fighting? on top of everything else that happened tonight. I thought you guys stopped this fucking shit " he looks at you, still frustrated, "lauren is going to be pissed, y/n."
leon steps towards his friend calmly, despite his firm tone, "it's not y/n’s fault." he says definitively, a flash of protectiveness flashing over his face.
connor blinks, confused, looking between the pair of you. his jaw is tense, tendon popping under his beard as he tries to clam himself down. seeing his best friend punch a guy in the face for seemingly no reason, which obviously made his fiancé upset, combined with walking out and catching the two of you arguing when you'd already told lauren everything was squashed between you and leon, has connor spinning.
leon continues, "we're fine."
"are we?" you question, pettily.
connor shakes his head, a breathless laugh leaving him. the tension between the two of you is undeniable, and it doesn't matter what you say—you're arguing and leon's fight has ruined the night. "leon," he starts, eyeing his friend firmly, "you need to go. both of you. drive y/n home and while you're at it, make sure this shit between you gets sorted. for good."
"okay." leon nods after a tense moment, fishing his keys from his pocket and walking down the sidewalk. he glances back at you, "let's go, y/n." he doesn't sound angry anymore, but he is still very definitive with his tone.
it has you moving, following behind him timidly, arms crossed tightly and tears fall freely down your cheeks. the damage has been done. your drunk and tired. that combined with your argument, and connor's scolding has you feeling very guilty and emotional.
leon unlocks his porsche, the beep echoing through the back parking lot of the night club. it's the car he's always had ever since you've known him, and you always mockingly call it his, 'big fancy sports call', everytime you see it. yes, it's a porsche but not a sports model—leon never corrects you though.
but you stay silent behind him, the only sound coming from you is your shoes on the ground. it has leon pausing. he attempts to glance at you quickly—sneakily—but as he catches the sight of your glistening tears under the moonlight, everything shifts.
the sight makes him swallow down the immediate rising guilt and regret that threatens to make its way out of him, halting his movements by the passenger door of his car. you sniff, eyes downcast.
it sends a pang through his heart, sighing softly as he faces you fully. "come on."
your chin trembles and you shake your head. he watches as you dig through top of your dress, pulling out your phone from where it rested beside your boob. you begin thumbing the screen, unaware of how your boob is now practically spilling out of your dress, sitting perfectly plump and bulged in a way that makes leon shift.
"i'm ordering an uber," you mumble, blinking through tears as you try to navigate the uber app.
"no," leon breathes, opening the passenger door with an echoing click. "you're not getting in an uber while you're drunk and alone."
you roll your wet eyes. "connor would let me."
"i'm not connor."
you pause, eyes flickering up to meet leon's. he gestures to the open car, a pleading look in his gaze. not in the mood to fight any more, you sniffle, turning off your cell before dragging yourself to the passenger seat.
leon's shoulders slump in relief, moving to the side so you're able to get into his car properly. once you're seated, leon shuts the door and rounds the front to the driver's side, where he lets himself in.
you keep your eyes forward as he starts the car, letting the engine roar to life as he clicks his seatbelt into place. he glances at you gingerly, "put your seatbelt on."
you sigh but do so. once he hears the dull click of the buckle, leon releases a tension filled sigh, shifting the car into drive before slowly pulling out of the parking lot and onto the road.
you really wish you could stop crying, but controlling your emotions have never been your strong suit—fighting with leon for years because he didn't smile at you one time is enough proof of that. your quiet hiccups are heard throughout the car, too tired to attempt to mask them. your arms are crossed again, like you're trying to hug yourself. your chest shakes with every breath, inhale or exhale, as your continue to cry, eyes trained out the windshield.
you won't look at him. you can't look at him. you're embarrassed and still a little angry, and you've given leon enough of your range of emotions in the past week that he's probably sick of then by now—more than he normally is.
the car slows at a red light, the rumbling of the engine coming to a quiet hum as the car completely halts. leon taps the steering wheel with two fingers, licking his teeth as he glances at you. "why are you crying, y/n?"
his words bring another round of tears to your eyes. you huff, sniffling away your running nose. "because."
"just because?" leon pushes gently, eyes flickering back to the traffic light to check its status. still red. he looks back at you, bathed in the red glow. "c'mon, help me out a little bit here."
the sincerity of his voice makes you frown. in that moment you're in desperate need of an outlet, someone or something to talk to in hopes that your tears will stop. and right now, you don't care if that person is leon, especially with the way he's looking at you—despite his deadpanned expression, there's still a softness underneath it all.
you nod, as if you're convincing yourself to confide in him. with another sob and trembling breath, you say, "lauren is going to hate me now."
the lights changes to green, and leon blinks, turning away from you and shifting the car into drive. a moment passes before he sighs softly, shaking his head, "she's not going to hate you." he says, glancing at you quickly.
"i've ruined the night." you counter, bringing your knees up to your chest to cradle yourself. your dress shifts, sliding dangerously high on your thigh, and the sight has leon internally cursing, he licks onto his bottom lip, forcing himself to look away from your soft skin.
"you didn't ruin anything," he reassures you, "I was the one who got all...angry and punched that guy. trust me, lauren will be okay. you'll be okay." leon pauses, eyes flickering away from the deserted road and over to your tear stained face. "besides, how could anyone ever hate you?"
your lips part and you shift your head to look at leon. his expression in unreadable, but he barley lets you analyze it because he's turning his attention back to the road. finally, you find your voice. "you hate me."
leon shifts gears, and he does it so smoothly that you don't even jolt in your seat. that also means you don't look away from his side profile, eyes pointed and curious as you await his response.
"I could never hate you, y/n." he swallows, adam's apple bobbing under his stubble. leon doesn't look at you yet. he can't.
"that's a lie," you mean to sound firm, but your words come out nothing short of a whisper. your brows pull tightly, confusion etched across your forehead. "because you do hate me."
that makes leon falter, glancing over to you after he shift into a different lane. "do I?"
you don't answer, mostly because you're unsure what kind of response leon is looking for. you tear your eyes away from him, looking back out through the windshield and keeping your gaze trained on the pavement as it disappears under the car.
leon sighs to himself, running a hand through his messy hair. he eyes you again, but you're still not looking at him. your face is tight, but you've stopped crying for the most part, only the occasional tear that slides over your salty tight skinned cheek. a flash of fear comes over him—what if you're too uncomfortable with what he said to cry?
leon curses. the last thing he wants to do right now is make you feel worse. his eyes trail over your body as he hits another red light. your legs are still pulled up, hands wrapped around your calves like you're cradling yourself. it makes his heart sink, but then he sees it. your nails.
the usual flame red you wear is replaced by a neutral colour, accompanied by white french. his mouth opens before his brain can catch up, "taking a break from the red?" leon's words have you blinking, looking back at him curiously. his eyes flick down to your hands, "your nails."
"oh," you hum. you hadn't even known that leon had noticed the little red nail detail you've been committed to for years. the colour you'd pick solely because leon didn't like it. thinking about it now makes you feel a bit silly, but something about leon mentioning it has you feeling fuzzy. "yeah," you clear your throat, sliding your hands between your thighs shyly, hiding them from his sight. "lauren wants us all to have french tips for the wedding."
"that's a shame," leon sighs, stepping on the gas as the light changes. "you look good in red."
"you hate the colour red." you say quietly— cautiously.
"doesn't mean I hate it on you."
a beat passes as you sit with that confession. your drunk brain has a difficult time pacing the pieces together, brows furrowed in confusion as you keep your eyes trained on leon. you breathe a laugh that sounds like a scoff. "why are you being so nice to me?" you question, "is it just because im upset?"
"not just because you're upset," he replies quickly, "i've been enough of a dick to you to last a lifetime. and I know how important lauren is to you, and how much you want to fix this thing between us before the wedding so she's happy." leon stops himself, swallowing roughly as he looks back at you. "i'm trying my best to start fixing it."
"what is this thing between us?"
his thumbs strokes the leather wrapping around the steering wheel, "whatever you want it to be."
you make a funny noise. "what kind of answer is that?"
leon can't help the way his top lip twitches, the smallest grin threatening to take over. "the right one for how drunk and upset you are."
"I don't like that answer either."
that does make him smile. "I know you don't."
silence fills the car after that. you let your legs fall back to the ground, feeling much more relaxed then when you first got in. and leon notices out of the corner of his eye, which makes his shoulders drop in relief. they ache slightly from how tense he'd been, but he can't even think of that right now.
not when you start to talk, voice curious and gentle. "how come you hit that guy?"
he sighs lowly, not taking his eyes off the road as he flicks on his signal, car turning into the parking garage of your apartment complex. you blink in surprise—leon hadn't even asked for directions once. he remembers where you live.
"when you're upset, it's makes me crazy," he starts shamelessly, hands tightening around the wheel as he recalls the scene at the nightclub less than an hour ago. "and tonight, when that asshole grabbed your arm and the tiniest flash of distress crossed your features, I didn't even think." leon looks at you quickly, meeting your intent gaze. it makes him look away just as fast. "not only was I jealous but I was so fucking angry that I just lashed out."
he pulls into an empty parking spot, which is thankfully a few steps away from the elevator. leon shifts the car into park before he looks at you again. when he sees the slow smile on your face, his stomach swoops.
before he has a chance to question why you look so...pleased, you begin to talk. "wait, you were jealous?" you ask him, eyebrow raised curiously.
leon's neck feels hot, and he forces himself to laugh, even though the sound comes across awkward. he rubs the back of his neck and looks away from you, which only makes you giggle. "okay, let's not dwell on it." he mutters.
"oh my god," you tease, "big tough leon draisaitl was jealous."
"y/n."
"this is amazing"
his eyes twinkle with amusement. "i'm trying to apologize," leon tells you, the smallest smile pulling at his lips.
"I know," you grin, "I never thought this day would come! should I get my phone out and take a video of this? post it on my story so everyone can see?"
leon rolls his eyes fondly as you laugh, head falling back against the head rest as you look at him. you obviously are just teasing him, and that has leon's heart strings tugging. "are you done?"
"with this?" you question, knowingly, "never."
the smile that follows that is different, one of those smiles that you only save for lauren and when you're talking on the phone to your family. leon almost wants to get his phone out now and snap a picture of you—because he's never seen anything more beautiful.
the muskoka air bnb is beautiful. so much so that it doesn't even feel real. it's decorated in white, with lots of neutral florals and greenery that line not only the main house, but the multiple guests house littering the property.
connor and lauren had flown the wedding party out yesterday, and you had been so exhausted from travel, as well as trying to not stare at leon for the duration of the flight that as soon as you arrived you passed out.
since leon drove you home from the night club a few days ago, there's been a major shift. you'd seen him a few days afterwards at a dinner hosted by lauren's parents for the wedding party and family, and obviously he attended. there was a part of you that thought he'd ignore you like he always did, but he actually smiled at you. a half grin from across the room as he held a champagne flute that made your stomach flip.
and then two days ago, the day before traveling to muskoka, leon texted you. you were in such a shock from seeing his name flash across your screen, that you almost forgot to answer him. after 30 minutes you finally responded to his message, asking if you wanted a ride to the airport tomorrow—to which your answer was thanks. that be great, leon :)
immediately you cringed at your own message. it made you feel like a school girl with a highschool crush who was trying to come across casual but was miserably failing—wait, are you a school girl with a highschool crush who was trying to come across casual but was miserably failing? just as immediate you pushed that thought away, storing it on the back burner to later dissect.
this weekend is not about you or the sudden butterflies in your stomach when you think about leon—who a week ago, you thought couldn't stand you. you're still not sure if he even likes you, despite everything. so yeah, back burner it goes.
when you woke up today, much closer to the afternoon than the morning, you'd be in for a surprise when you walked down the hallway of your designated guest house and saw leon standing in the kitchen, sipping coffee while scrolling through his phone. shirtless.
"oh!" you practically squeal, jumping around and covering your eyes with a hand. you knew that you'd be sharing the guest house with some of the wedding party, you just didn't think it would be with him.
he laughs, clicking off his phone and setting it on the island. "i'm not naked, you don't have to hide."
you peek through your fingers first and see him looking at you, palms flat against the counter as he leans into it, mug sat in the space between his hands. when you catch sight of the sweat pants—although hung dangerously low on his toned hips—you drop your hand. "you just caught me off guard." you swallow.
he grins, all syrupy and slow before pushing off the counter. leon stalks over to you, and the closer he gets the more nervous you feel. just when you think he may stop, he walks right past you, hand brushing your wrist. "lauren and connor need us ready for 1:30 for something. connor's brother and jenni are already outside." he calls back at you, stalking down the hallways.
you had to wash your face in freezing water to calm yourself down from that interaction—mostly caused by leon’s shirtless torso, but that's neither here or there. you slipped on one of your white cocktail dresses, because even though leon didn't say what was happening, you knew it was the welcome party in the garden.
leon wasn't in the kitchen or the living area when you emerged from your room, thankfully, so you had another few minutes to calm down while you made your way across the property. guests have already started to arrive by the time you sneak up beside lauren, greeting her warmly while she beams at the sight of your face.
you help her make her rounds and tidy up whatever she feels needs it while people mingle, snacking on hors d'oeuvres and sipping alcohol under the july sun. when you get a free moment, you nudge her side to get her attention, "why didn't you tell me leon was in my house?"
she frowns slightly, "he is? thought he was in the other one but I guess not." before you can get her to elaborate on that, one of the waitstaff comes over, whisking her away to deal with whatever snack debacle was occurring.
you spend a few hours mingling with everyone, sharing laughter and drinks happily. you've never been to muskoka, and you can't help but appreciate how beautiful and scenic it is. lauren and connor couldn't of picked a better spot to get married.
on instinct you hear lauren’s laugh echo through the garden, and you spot her almost instantly. your best friend has never looked more beautiful or happy since you've known her. connor stands beside her, the two of them in their own little world. he's whispering in her ear which is the reason for her laughter. you love them so much.
your eyes begin to prick with tears, and you quickly look away before they can fall. you grab a napkin hurriedly, bringing it up to your lower lash line so it soaks up your salty tears. thank god you're alone right now, because it's so embarrassing.
"oh no," leon's says from a few feet away, eyeing you with a mixture of curiosity and amusement. "you're crying."
his voice cutting through the silence makes you jump slightly—when did you get so jumpy around him?—and you turn to look at him, a small bubble of laughter leaving you. you sniffle, balling up the napkin in your palm, "I know. i'm a mess."
he shakes his head, a half smirk, half frown on his face. you don't even know where to begin trying to understand what that means. leon walks closer, taking the napkin right out of you palm and throwing it in the small garbage underneath the long buffet style hors d'oeuvres table. "what's got you emotional?"
on cue lauren laughs again, and you sigh dreamily, glancing the happy couples way. "they're just so in love. this place is beautiful, lauren and connor are beautiful and i'm just...so happy for them."
leon watches you for a long moment, brows furrowed slightly as he listens to your confession. when you look back at him, there's new tears in your eyes, happy ones but laced with a longing you hadn't realized you possessed. leon's gut pangs with something all too familiar as you look up at him. he can't help but wonder if for years you'd been too worried about trying to get him to like you in some capacity that you'd been too busy to look for what you need. what you want. what you've always desired: to feel loved.
the way you're looking at him now, no trace of anger or resentment in your eyes, makes him feel comfortable—complete. it's then that he knows that yes, you'd been too focused on leon's stubbornness when it comes to you, to notice that he never hated you. not at all.
he gives you a closed mouth grin, reaching to wipe away the tear that's pooling under your lashes. "you'll get it too, y/n. love."
your lip twitches, and his eyes on you feel so intense you have to look to the ground. "think so?"
he guides your face back up. "I know so." leon swallows gently, eyes darting down to your lips just like they had in the pool many days ago. your lips part, nothing but a hitched breath coming out. he licks along his lower lip, "i'm sorry, y/n. for everything."
and you know he means it.
dinner time comes quickly, sneaking up on you. leon weighs heavy on your mind as you shove garden salad in your mouth—the conversation today, his shirtless torso, the way he notices your nails, the way he touched you in the pool, the way he kissed you. even the way he eats damn beer nuts.
you try and distract yourself with the conversation flowing all around you, stretching down the long dining table under the warm fairy lights dripping from the trees. but your mind always drift back to him. leon. leon. leon. the man who hasn't left your mind since you met him years ago, is still the man who you think about today.
it doesn't help that he's sitting diagonally from you, your eyes catching every few minutes like there’s nothing else to but to look at one another.
you need a cold shower and a long nights rest. and leon, you brain taunts you.
after desert and another hour of mindless chatting, everyone starts heading home and packing in for the night. tomorrow would be a long day of rehearsals and last minute prepping for the wedding on the following day.
you practically run back to the guest house, stealing one of two showers before any of the other house guests have a chance too. the water is relaxing, and helps ease the tornado of thoughts and unwanted questions in your mind.
whatever you want it to be.
you're glad you have a room to yourself because you don't want to put pyjamas on. you crawl under the covers completely naked, sighing as your head hits the pillow.
leon. leon. leon.
hours pass, the guest house bathed in the sound of water lapping against the stoney shore. sleep doesn't take you, leaving you tossing and turning like a child. you huff, reading the small alarm clock on the wooden beside table: 2:17 a.m.
you slip out from under the sheets and grab one of your oversized shirts, pulling it over your frame before making your way to the door. you're hoping some water and a change of atmosphere will help you feel a little sleepy. you toe down the dark hallway until you round into the kitchen.
the image of shirtless leon, leaning over the island this morning flashes through your mind. you shake your head, sighing again before going to the cupboard and grabbing a mug.
you fill it with the brita in the fridge, and then you drink it slowly, doing your best to calm your restless limbs and even more restless mind. after a few minutes you put the mug in the sink and make your way back down the hallway.
one of the bedroom doors creaks open, and you falter. even in the dim light, you'd recognize him. leon looks at you, curious, one brow raised the highest fraction taller than the other. he's shirtless again, which makes you swallow.
"hi." you mumble dumbly.
"hey."
you walk further down the hall, right by your bedroom door which before this moment, unbeknownst to you, is diagonally across from his.
you watch leon's eyes dart down to your legs, trailing up your soft skin and reaching the hem on your not so long t-shirt. his eyes linger there, and you flush. "sorry, I," you stutter, "wasn't expecting to see you. or anyone really, at this hour."
he finds your face. "don't apologize."
you nod, clearing your throat again. you've never been at a loss for words in leon's presence, besides the moment right before your kiss over a week ago, but right now you're rendered speechless.
"you okay?" he questions tenderly, assessing you.
"yeah," you say, thumbing down the hall in the direction of the kitchen. "couldn't sleep, so just had some water."
he nods once, "ah."
"are you okay?" you ask him.
leon blinks, nodding again. "yeah. just had to use the bathroom."
"ah." you repeat his earlier words, and his mouth twitches.
"yeah." he mumbles.
you breathe, "well, I should probably try and sleep. it'll be a long day tomorrow."
"yeah, me too." he say, but it doesn't sound convincing. leon eyes your legs again.
you squeeze your thighs together, a small gasp leaving your lips. the sound has leon's eyes snapping up to your face. you reach behind yourself blindly, finding the handle of the door knob. "goodnight leon."
"night." he says, turning the knob of his own door and pushing it open.
whatever you want it to be. the words taunt you as you look at leon's back, muscles pronounced and tempting. your mind is still racing with the unknown—your body on fire—and this interaction didn't help at all.
you're desperate for answers.
so before his door closes, you step forward. "leon?"
he pauses, pulling the bedroom door back open. not fully, but just enough so he can lean on the trim. "yea?"
you shutter as you inhale, fingers itching as you try and keep your hands to yourself. leon's skin is glistening. pecks and chest covered in a neat spread of hair that trails down his abs and disappears below those stupid low rise sweatpants. focus. you force yourself to look back up to his face.
whatever you want it to be.
"what would you of said the other night in the car if I was sober?" you ask him, "when I asked you what are we, you said whatever I want us to be."
leon remembers the conversation all too well. it plays on a constant loop in his head and it has since he dropped you home that night. "yeah, I did." he confirms lowly.
"so what's the real answer?" you swallow gently, "what would you of said? if I asked you right now, what would you say?"
a moment passes.
leon huffs, eyes finding the worn wood of the house as he rubs the back of neck roughly. he meets your eyes again—your curious, hopeful gaze. "I don't know." he says.
"you don't know?" you repeat slowly—hesitantly. like your testing out the sound of it on your tongue. a flash of sadness washes over your face, and leon feels awful.
he steps back into the hallway, "I don't mean it like that, I just..." he trails off, breathing deeply.
you don't give him the opportunity to finish that thought. your arms cross over your chest, a defensive stance that makes leon frown. "how come when we first met you didn't smile at me?"
the question catches him off guard. not because he didn't know the answer, but because he hadn't realized it had been in your mind. leon didn't realize that you noticed that when first time you met, he didn't smile back at you. heat flushes his chest and neck, "y/n..."
the look on his face has you stopping. he looks almost distraught, and that's not at all what you were expecting. there was a part of you that thought leon didn't even remember that first meeting. the solem look on his face suggests otherwise.
"please," you breathe, arms falling as you step closer to him. "I need to know what I did that made you so upset that you couldn't even smile. it's been years of racking my brain, desperately trying to understand what I did-"
"I couldn't smile because I was scared." leon cuts you off firmly, gaze pointed.
"scared?" you repeat curiously. "scared of what?"
"y/n." he says your name again. almost pleading with you.
you reach out, letting your nails trail over the side of his bicep. you blink up at him, "leon, please."
a beat passes.
"you had the prettiest smile i'd ever seen," leon mumbles, so quiet that you almost don't hear him. "that's what scared me. because I knew I would do anything to see it again, and from that moment I knew I had no control when it came to you." he shakes his head, a breathy laugh breaking the tense moment. leon meets your gaze, “I still don't have control around you and it scares me to this day."
your core flutters, and your heart thumps wildly. you lick your lower lip. "yeah?" you question softly.
"yeah."
leon watches as you take another step towards him, your chest pressing against his. you push up onto your painted toes, hands curling around his torso to balance yourself. he's practically panting as he watches you, nose bumping yours as he starts leaning down into your space.
"loose control, leon." you whisper sensually, nails digging into his flesh. "I want you to loose control with me."
leon kisses you hard, hands flying to your waist to keep you pressed against him. your mouths part, tongues swiping over one another as the kiss turns deeper—hotter. it's even better than the one almost two weeks ago. more intimate and more passionate.
you sigh into his mouth, hands sliding up the front of his chest and wrapping around his neck, pulling him into you even more. his fingers squeeze the fleshy part of your hips before travelling farther down, cupping the round of your ass and giving it a firm squeeze. then he drags you even further up his chest, and you can feel him hardening against your core.
"you have no idea how long i've been waiting for you," he mumbles into your mouth, grip sliding down your thighs painfully slow.
you whine as leon kisses you again, lifting you off the ground and wrapping your legs over his hips. the new position has your bare core resting just above his member, and just knowing that has your hips jerking.
leon's hands trail under your shirt, which is now almost completely exposing you, smoothing over your ass. he makes a growling noise, and in that moment you know he's discovered you're without panties. "you're gunna kill me." he mumbles, nipping your bottom lip and then soothing the sting with his tongue.
your hands run up through the back of his head, messing his hair. "leon," you pant, nipples pebbled and hard where they rest against him. "I need to feel you."
he doesn't answer you—not with words. his hands squeeze the meat of your ass again and spin you both around, slowly to not startle you, and walk you into his room. it's completely dark in there besides the single stream of moonlight through the window, leaving a barley there streak of light across the pillows.
leon blindly finds the bed, and once he feels the mess of blankets against his knees he lowers you to the mattress. he hovers over you, eyes flickering over your flushed face so intently—so tenderly. you sigh, a small smile blossoming on your kissed out lips.
it makes him follow suit, the two of just smiling at one another for what feels like the first time. slowly, one of leon's hands finds the side of your face, cupping your jaw while his thumb runs along the hallow part of your cheek soothingly. "you okay?"
your heart clenches, and you lean into the warmth of his palm. your eyes flutter as you nod, "yes. are you?"
"better than okay," he whispers, leaning in and reconnecting your lips. this kiss isn't hurried like the others. this one feels like molasses, slow and sweet and you can't get enough.
leon’s hand trails down your face, over the pulse point of your neck and down your t-shirt covered torso. he pays extra attention to your boobs, tugging and palming your nipples until you're arching into him.
when he reaches your hip bones—the edge of your shirt—he curses, pressing an open mouthed kiss to each side of your hips, and then another one right below your navel. your breath catches, watching as leon’s eyes flicker up yours—so close to where you want him.
leon smirks, kissing the inside of your thigh delicately. "what do you want from me, baby?"
the nickname makes your hips jerk, a breathless moan leaving you involuntary. leon's smirk deepens, hands sliding up your thighs and pushing them further apart, displaying your glistening bare pussy.
"I want you to touch me," you mumble desperately, hands fisting the bedding under you like your life depends on it.
"speak up baby." leon taunts, blowing air on your warmth.
you jaw goes slack as you squirm and wiggle against the mattress. "I want you," you swallow roughly, "to touch me."
he licks his bottom lip like he's in front of a five course meal, "good girl." leon mumbles before licking a firm strip up your pussy, tasting and spreading your sticky arousal. you gasp loudly, too loudly for sharing a house with other people, when he sucks on your clit.
leon hums at the sound, and it vibrates through your folds in a way that makes you shiver. his hands massage the meat of your thighs as he devours your pussy, keeping you spread open for him.
your panting, back arching off the bed as your core flutters pathetically. "i'm close." you whine, fingers threading through leon's hair and tugging his roots.
leon slurps your arousal, sucking your clit deliciously. just when you're about to teeter off the edge, he pulls away from you. his chin and lips are drenched in your juices, and when he smirks you just about melt.
"I wanna see your face when you cum," he admits shamelessly, already beginning to remove his sweatpants. his hard cock springs free, thick and red as it brushes against his stomach. as if leon couldn't get any more sexy, he's got the perfect cock as the cherry on top.
you bring your bottom lip between you teeth, watching him shamelessly. he catches your gaze, "take your shirt off."
and you do, quickly, like you can't take it off fast enough. you throw it to the floor and leon climbs back over your body, pressing tickling kisses against your neck that have you giggling and squirming.
"you're beautiful." leon hums, pressing a deep kiss to your mouth. you can taste yourself on his lips and tongue, and that makes you moan. he pulls away, forehead resting against yours, "I don't have a condom."
you shake your head, "i'm clean. I haven't been with anybody since—" since I met you.
you don't need to say it. leon knows. "me either." he kisses you again, chaste. "and i’m clean, if you’re sure?"
"yes," you tell him, "i've never been more sure of anything."
he smiles, lining his aching tip up with your sticky entrance. slowly, leon eases into your warmth. you both sigh shakily, mouth agape as leon's cock slides further and further into your pussy.
"holy fuck," he moans, "you feel so good."
you whine, wrapping your legs around his lower back, keeping him as close as possible. the feeling is electric and like nothing you've experienced before. it's years of tension, frustration, unspoken words and secret longing combined, and it feels like heaven.
leon begins rolling his hips into you, a slow pace that has your toes clenching and pussy oozing. your back arches off the bed, hands sliding up his back, nails digging into his shoulder blades as he rocks into your heat.
he curses lowly, the band in his stomach tightening as his impending orgasm nears. "your pussy feels so fucking good wrapped around my cock."
"oh my god, leon—mhpm." you mewl, walls fluttering and squeezing as he continues his now feverish pace. the bed begins to creak from the movement, a sound that surely gives away exactly what you and leon are up to. but neither of you care.
"fuck," he grunts, grabbing your leg and hiking it further up, almost holding it flush to your chest. the new angle is exactly what you needed, leon's tip kissing that spongy spot inside you repeatedly.
"i'm gunna cum." you whine, hands sliding around to his front, cascading up his chest to wrap around his neck. "don't stop." you beg desperately, jaw going slack at a particularly rough thrust.
"you like that?" leon asks, eyeing your pinched eyes and flushed face. he pushes on the back of your thigh, stretching you open even more and more. you shout, mumbling yes over and over again. "yeah?" he teases.
he thrusts into you three more times and you cum. you exhale breathily, falling back against the bed as your limbs go weak. your skin feels like it's on fire in the best possible way. leon's jaw goes slack, hips jutting into yours as he reaches his climax.
the feeling of him filling you up with his cum, pumping into into you softly with lazy thrusts has you cumming again, much softer than your first orgasm, but still powerful enough to have you whining.
your eyes flutter closed, exhaustion creeping into your bones. leon breathlessly kisses the line of your jaw, and then your cheek, then your nose and finally your lips. you smile into it, holding his face to yours tenderly.
"you okay?" he whispers, pushing some hair off your sweaty forehead.
you hum, kissing him one more time quickly. "yeah." you say, "i'm definitely tired now."
he grins fondly, dick twitching where it's still sheathed inside you. slowly, leon guides himself from your warmth, watching as his cum spills out your hole and drips onto the bedding. it’s truly a sight.
he curses, already half hard again. you giggle, and leon swears he's never heard a more precious sound. he cleans up your shared mess gently, pressing kissing against your skin every few seconds. it's so comforting and soft it has you falling asleep.
when leon finally climbs back up the bed, he pulls you against his chest, tucking your head under his chin. he pulls the blanket over your naked bodies, and kisses your forehead, so softly that you barley feel it. "go to sleep, y/n."
and you do.
you take a deep breath, letting the muskoka air fill your lungs completely before you let yourself exhale. the night sky is full of stars and constellations, adding to the already perfect night.
you can hear the chatter of the last half of rehearsal dinner from up the house, lauren's laughter finding your ears like it usual does. you're both cacklers, and connor often dubs you two as the cackle twins.
the dinner has been beautiful, as expected. speeches made you tear up and laugh at the same time, and the food was so delicious is made you moan.
you woke up this morning before leon, the sunshine streaming through the open curtains and caring him in golden light. seeing him so soft and tender was everything, but the unknown of everything between you still lingers in your chest.
yes, you had sex. yes, you kissed again. but what does that mean?
you left before he woke up.
the day had been so busy with you helping lauren and getting ready for rehearsals, that you didn't see leon again until the dinner. seeing him made your heart race, and skin heat. leon looked so handsome in his suit, hair styled and casual smile on his face—chatting with connor from across the table.
you thought you could handle your feelings and emotions through the duration of dinner, but that changed as connor made his toast—a stupidly perfect toast about love that made you think of leon.
you caught his eyes through it, and he sent you a sad smile. it breaks you. you're scared of the unknown, and you want him so badly. but not knowing what leon wants is torture, and frankly it’s holding you back.
so once all the toasts are done and dinner conversation is in full swing, you slip out of the house and make your way down to the waters edge. hoping to collect yourself. the sound of the water and the crickets are soothing as you look out on to the lake. you wrap your arms around yourself, taking another deep and much needed breath.
the sound of someone walking on the rocks behind you makes you spin around, white silk dress swaying around your thighs at your sudden movement.
"hey," leon says gently, hands shoved in his pant pockets. he's no longer wearing his jacket, he must've ditched it before coming out to find you.
"hey." you parrot.
he comes up next you, arm brushing yours. "you okay?"
you hum lightly, nodding once. "just taking a breather." your emotions betray your body as your lip quivers, a wave of fat tears rolling down your cheeks.
leon spots them instantly, rounding to your front to look at you properly. "hey," he starts tenderly, brushing some loose hairs away from your face, "why are you upset?"
"i'm just...emotional." you mutter pathetically, shrugging your shoulder.
leon frowns. "about the speeches?"
"yes," you say, "no. I don't know."
he clicks his tongue, tucking your hair. his touch makes you shiver. "what about it is making you upset?" leon asks, words patient and curious.
you shake your head, wiping at your tears with the back of your hand. "it's stupid," you laugh half-heartedly, "and I really should get back inside and be present! this is about lauren and connor, not me-"
"hey," leon stops you, "no. lauren and connor are fine. it's just me and you right now, okay? what's going on that head."
that's a good question. what is going on inside your head. for years you believed that leon hated you. you were certain of it. you two would always bicker and fight, couldn't be in the same room without it getting hostile. but the past few weeks something has undeniably changed.
you sigh, voice wobbly as you begin to speak. "for years, you only looked my way if you wanted to argue."
leon frowns, reaching out to cup your jaw. "that's not true." he says with determination, brows pulled so tightly that you'd be surprised if the indent between them isn't permanent.
"it is," you huff, "and sometimes I think that's still the case." a new wave of tears and doubt well in your eyes, heart thumping against your ribs wildly. "you hate me, leon."
a moment passes, leon looking down at you with an unreadable, almost sad expression. your words couldn't be farther from the truth. leon didn’t lie when he said he never hated you. it always been the opposite for him. "okay, sure," leon starts, "I hate you."
you gulp, eyes never leaving his.
leon continues, "I hate that I know your favourite necklace was gift from your grandma when you turned 18. I hate that I know you fiddle with your rings when you're nervous, and that you'll do anything for lauren and your friends, even if that means putting up with my terrible fucking attitude. I hate that I know your favourite lipgloss is bubblegum flavoured, and that your dream pet is a snake but there's also something about them that scares you. I hate that I made you hate me, because I sure as hell have never hated you."
you sniffle, shifting on your feet as his words warm your skin. you've never told leon about yourself, but yet he knew you well enough to know them. he knows you. you knows where you live, and your nail colour. he knows you cross your arms when you get defensive and that you love beer nuts.
"then why?" you ask gingerly "why did you act like you did?"
leon doesn't say anything. his jaw ticks, teeth clenched so hard that it hurts. leon's other hand comes up to your face, caressing your tear stained skin in his calloused palms. his lips part, tongue sliding along his bottom lip. "because I love you."
you blink. "what?"
"I love you like crazy," leon repeats, a breathy laugh following. "I loved you since you walked into that bar with lauren, all smiles and wearing that pretty yellow dress. sure, you scared me but you also intrigued me. when you started fighting with me, which was warranted, there was a part of me that hated it, but another part of me loved it because it was the only time you'd give me the time of day."
his thumbs smooth over your rosy cheeks as he continues, "so i'd argue with you and fight with you because I knew that would make you look at me and talk to me. and i'm so sorry. i'm sorry that I hurt you and embarrassed you and gave you all these mixed signals the past two weeks. i'm sorry that I was falling in love you more and more each day and didn't say anything until now."
"you love me?"
leon must think you're feeling skeptical about his confession, because his thumbs still on your cheeks and his face falters. "i'm not fucking with you."
"you love me." you state.
"yes," he breathes, "i've never not loved you."
"leon."
"I know. i'm sorry."
"leon...stop."
"you can hit me or smack me or drown me in this lake if that helps. i've been awful to you and then sending you mixed signals when it's the last thing I wanted to do. I got greedy with the sex and kissing but-"
"kiss me." you interrupt firmly, sliding your hands up his stomach and resting your palms flat against his pecks
"what?" leon breathes, blinking hard as your words register in his head.
"you heard me, leon," you smile, "kiss me. now."
and he does. leon kisses you with nothing besides tenderness and pure love, lips caressing and sliding along yours in a way that makes your knees feel weak. your hands slide around to his back, squeezing his muscles firmly as he continues the kiss. his tongue slides along yours, sending butterflies down your body. you pull away, both of you breathless and so in love.
"I love you too, leon." you smile, pressing another chaste kiss to his plump lips. "and I forgive you, if you can forgive me too."
he shakes his head, "there's nothing for me to forgive."
leon kisses you again, picking up right where you left off. his hands slide down your body, down to your lower back as his thumb glide over your tail bone in a soothing, gentle motion. the kiss doesn’t last nearly long enough, and you whine when he pulls away.
he grins, squeezing the flesh of your ass. "we should probably go back inside. lauren might bite my head off if I steal her best friend away any longer."
"are you sure we can't just go have a quickie first?" you ask playfully, fiddling with the hairs at the base of his neck.
he shakes his head in disbelief, a fond smile pulling at his face. "you're a freak."
"at least i'm not a freak who hates beer nuts," you tease, poking his stomach, "but forces himself to eat them."
leon wraps his arm around your shoulders, pulling you into his side as the two of you make your way back up to the house. "ah, but you see, I did it for the greater good."
you snort. "and what greater good was that?"
"getting the girl."

You look cute with a baby bump!" With leon draisaitl
SURPRISE BABY SHOWERS
tw: pregnancy
from the moment you found out you were pregnant, leon was by your side 24/7, or every second he could. whenever he was gone, he would tell bowie to protect you.
you were standing in the bathroom, looking at yourself in the mirror. you were marveling at the small, but ever-growing bump, "look at this, bo." you picked up the little dog and pointed to your stomach, "that's your little sibling." you pressed a kiss to the dog's head.
bowie barked, licking your face. leon walked into the bathroom, and immediately spotted the bump you were sporting, "ooh!" he sang, "look at this hot mama." he whooped.
"oh, shush." you laughed, rolling your eyes, shoving his shoulder.
"no, no, look at her." he bent down, rubbing your stomach, "she's glowing." he smiled, kissing your stomach, "you look cute with a bump," he told you.
"you think?" you asked.
"hell yeah." he nodded, pressing one last kiss to your stomach before pulling your shirt down and standing up, "you ready to go?"
"yeah." you nodded, setting bowie down and lacing your hand through leon's.
you drove through edmonton, admiring the scenery as it passed, "so, you gonna tell me where we're going?" you asked.
"can't. it's a surprise," he told you.
you raised a brow but didn't say anything going forward. leon pulled up in front of your favorite restaurant but didn't say anything as he got out of the car and made his way around the car to open your door.
"what're we doing here?" you asked.
"you'll see. come on." he held out his hand and led you inside. once you stepped inside, you were greeted with all the smiling faces of your closest friends and family members.
"surprise!" they all shouted.
"holy cannoli." you gasped, pulling your mom into a hug, "what's going on?" you asked, still very confused.
"well, we couldn't let you have this baby have this baby without a shower." your best friend told you, wrapping her arms around you.
"really? this is all for me?" you asked, tears forming in your eyes.
"yeah." she nodded, hugging you tighter.
"this is amazing." you pulled away, admiring everything.
"well, we can't take all the credit. most of it goes to mr. baby daddy." your friend pointed to leon, who was talking with connor and a few other players who had been invited.
you made eye contact with him and smiled, blowing him a kiss. he winked and nodded, sending you a big smile, going back to his conversation.

[1.2k] you didn't want to keep such a big secret from leon for the last two weeks. you just didn't know how to tell him.
.
You wanted to wait for the right moment to tell your boyfriend.
The issue was that you were dating a professional athlete and with how jumpy the Oilers’ season had been recently, no moment ever really felt like the right moment. It was the last run before playoffs so, more often than not, Leon was coming home shattered and exhausted. He was playing through injuries, he was trying to not let each loss feel like a personal attack and he was laser focused on the playoffs coming up.
And there would be these small moments—pockets of domesticity and a simple life amongst the chaos—where you would think this is it. This is the moment you are going to tell him, whilst you two are sprawled on the couch with Bowie nestled beside you and some trashy reality TV show playing in the background. This was finally it.
But then something hockey related would happen—his phone would buzz with a game notification from a division rival, a teammate would message about a play, a coach would send a reminder about a practice—and the bubble would pop.
And it just kept happening and happening and happening until it had been almost two weeks since you found out you were pregnant and Leon still didn’t know.
You felt like you were going to burst, to break and shatter under the pressure of knowing something so big and not telling Leon. It felt so wrong that he didn’t know. It felt so wrong to be so on edge and apprehensive and scared, and for Leon not to be there to comfort you.
Everything about the last two weeks had felt wrong and you weren’t even sure if Leon had picked up on it between games and practices and physiotherapy sessions.
The worst part was that you weren’t even sure how Leon would feel. The topic of marriage and kids and retirement all went in a pretty, little box that you always shelved to open in the future. You were both happy where you were right now, you both knew you wanted to share all those things in the future, you both knew it was an eventual ‘when’ not ‘if’.
But those topics—kids—never came up in the ‘now’ conversations. Leon was still firmly focused on hockey, still chasing the Cup, still playing the best hockey the league has ever seen. You were still climbing up the career ladder, growing and building and expanding your roots in the industry. You both were so content with the two of you and Bowie, with that being more than enough for right now.
And now, you are pregnant and you don’t even know how your boyfriend will react.
You don’t even know how to react.
You just know that you can’t really keep it in any longer.
The ironic thing was that you had spent the three days Leon was away on a roadie doing research. You watched countless videos and posts on how other people told their partner they were pregnant. You watched them set up a cute little box with shoes so tiny that you could barely comprehend, or aesthetically place the positive test on a babygrow that read something along the lines of ‘you’re going to be a dad!’.
You watched so many in hopes that one would spark an idea on how to tell your boyfriend, and in the end, you ended up doing none of it (the last minute baby shoes bought during your last grocery trip still tucked away at the bottom of your bedside table).
The team plane landed in Edmonton earlier that morning, which meant Leon was wheeling in his suitcase and kneeling by the front door before noon, cooing and grinning down at a very eager Bowie who was happy to see him.
The two of you settled into a routine very early on in your relationship after Leon would return from roadies. He would put away his things, you would get started on lunch or dinner or whatever meal time it was, and then he would come and join you after he freshened up. If it was late enough, he would go straight to bed. If it wasn’t, he would have a midday nap that he would try—and usually succeed—in coaxing you into joining.
It was a routine you very rarely deviated from.
Your body was moving on autopilot by the time Leon came back downstairs, freshly showered and dressed in comfier clothes (that for once weren’t Oilers branded). He was talking to you, doing the post-roadie debrief the two of you always did. He would talk about an annoying play during one of the games, or something stupid one of the boys did. You would tell him some workplace gossip, or something adorable Bowie had done the other night.
Except, you weren’t really talking. You were barely even listening. Your eyes were focused on the cucumber you were currently cutting up, barely paying attention to his complaints about the Oilers’ new power play drills when the words blurted out from your mouth before you could stop them.
“I’m pregnant.”
You couldn’t bring yourself to lift your head up and look at him, not when the chatter from the kitchen quickly became a lingering silence as your words settled over both of you. You had placed the knife down, still staring aimlessly at the half-cut cucumber whilst your heart thundered in your chest at how your boyfriend would react.
Somehow, the last thing you expected was to be pulled into his chest, face squished against his hoodie as he clung onto you.
“Are you serious?” He rasped, his voice a little shaky.
It was what finally prompted you to lift your head, to finally look at him. To finally see the way he was staring down at you, his eyes already glossy with unshed tears and his lips pulled into such a soft, genuine smile.
“I’m pregnant,” you repeated, a little breathless as the confession finally left your lips, as the weight of the secret left your shoulders.
Leon’s arms tightened around you, holding onto you for a few moments before he pulled back to cup your head in his hands, leaning down to press one, two, three kisses to the top of your head. Only then did he pull back, just enough to look down at you and beam.
“We are having a kid,” he whispered, awed.
“We are,” you murmured, your smile a little shaky as you clung onto the fabric of his hoodie, fisting the material. “I know we never really spoke about kids now or anything. And I wanted to tell you earlier but—”
“Hey, hey,” he quickly pulled you closer, pressing another lingering kiss on your forehead before dropping one to your lips. “We will work it out, okay? We’ll figure it out together. Whatever you want, I want.”
“I bought baby shoes,” you blurted out, a wet laugh following as you looked up at him. “They are so small.”
Leon’s face softened. “Yeah?”
“So small,” you whispered.
“Bowie won’t be the only baby in the house,” Leon teased, feeling the tightness in his chest start to relax once you laughed again, a little more confident this time.
“He’ll always be our baby,” you murmured against his chest, your eyes fluttering shut as you just let Leon hold you.
“We’ll get them matching shoes.”
You snorted a little.
“We’ve got this, baby,” Leon murmured, sounding so sure of himself, of the two of you, of everything. “We’re gonna do this together.”
“Together,” you repeated.
And for the first time in two weeks, you could finally feel yourself relax.

headcanons: first dates version
includes: jh86, qh43, lh43, nh13, mm16, wn88, ld29, cb98, ws2
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
jack does not like dating people he doesn’t know a least a bit so when he asks you out you’ve been friends for a minute and you’ve been to his apartment a few times. you’re still nervous when you ring his doorbell. he told you to dress casual so you’re wearing baggy jeans and a sweater and it’s your favourite outfit but there’s nerves anyway. they’ve melted away though, minutes into the date, because you’ve ditched the pizza-topping-preparing for hopping onto the counter and constructing the perfect queue of songs to play through the big speakers in the living room. soon enough the both of you are singing and dancing through jacks kitchen, eating half the toppings he’s prepared while throwing the other half on heart-shaped pizzas. all your nerves are forgotten when he twirls you into his arms, leans his forehead against yours and asks you if he can kiss you. (you might burn the pizzas because you’re making out like teenagers but that’s nothing a quick doordash order can’t fix).
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
quinn likes romance but not cliches. your standard dinner and a movie would be too predictable so he tells you to wear your comfiest outfit you want to leave your apartment with and picks you up right on time. you’re both in his car in sweats and hoodies and you make a pit stop at your favourite chinese restaurant (he made you put your order into his phone the second you stepped foot into his car) before he pulls into the drive-in. he tries to keep the movie you’re seeing a secret but once you drive by the sign reading pride and prejudice in big black letters, he watches you gasping quietly and smiling to yourself out of the corner of his eye. if by the end of the night you’ve snuggled up together in the backseat, front seats reclined so you can still see the movie, and he tells you he picked pride and prejudice because he caught onto you quoting it in a text a few weeks back, maybe this becomes the best first date of your life.
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
luke needs that slightly competitive edge so he takes you to his favourite arcade. you’re going on a random wednesday night when the sign says closed (luke’s made friends with the guy at the front desk, a college student who’s working a side job to pay his rent) so you’re in there alone. it’s a little awkward at first, you’re slightly nervous and luke’s a little like a shy puppy, talking away until his brain catches up with what he’s been saying but after a few minutes you’ve found the dance dance revolution nearly hidden in the back and it prompts a night of endless giggles. lukes long limbs trying to keep up with the instructions look objectively hilarious and you can’t imagine you look particularly graceful dancing while doubling over and heaving with laughter either. you try out most games in the room, trying to one-up each other and not so subtly staring in the colourful glow of the neon lights. luke orders you two a pizza to share and you find yourselves sitting on the floor of the arcade, stuffing your faces and sharing a diet coke (because it’s your favourite) and somehow you end up kissing each other goodbye (tentatively and very much like the first kiss that it is).
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
nico goes all out. i can’t explain why i think so but once you say yes to a date there’s no holding him back. he takes you to a pretty well known restaurant in new york city, you've never been there so he sends you a menu and dress code ahead of time which you gladly appreciate. it’s semi-nice, jeans and a button up look great on him and the watch on his wrist only adds to it. he’s got a light hand on your lower back when he follows you and the host out onto the rooftop terrace to your table. the people you see along the way are dressed similarly to yourself and nico, there‘s suit pants and button ups and fancy dresses everywhere. you’re pleased to know he described the dress code well and you fit right in (you were slightly anxious in front of your closet a few hours before) and thanks to scouting the menu out beforehand, you know which dish you’re most interested in. you end up splitting two of them, a pasta that’s almost not a diet plan violation and a bowl that most definitely is. he also insists you pick a bottle of wine so you’re pleasantly buzzed by the time you also order a chocolate dessert to share. conversation flows nicely, always has, even when you were only texting, and his very slight accent only adds to his charm. you decide to walk home, the way not being too long (and maybe he wants to spend a little more time with you and maybe hold your hand and maybe bring you to your door and part with a kiss on the cheek, like the gentleman he is).
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
you didn’t know about the term “meet-cute” before you met mitch, but looking back that’s totally what happened with you two. you were out with your best friends dog, they had gone back home for a few days to sort out some family matter and left you in charge of their adorable goldendoodle athena for the time being. with a hot drink in your left hand and her leash wrapped around your right, you braved the cold canadian november wind to spend your free saturday at one of torontos dog parks. you were deeply engrossed into the podcast you’d been listening to through your earbuds and you walked a few steps back and forth to keep warm while keeping your eyes on athena, who was playing idly with a few dogs you met at this park regularly. after a few minutes you noticed she favoured playing with one dog more than any of the others. when you called her over after you’d been getting colder and colder and even athenas happiness didn’t seem worth this torture anymore, her favourite friend even came over to you. it trotted over a few steps behind athena, seeming almost shy as it walked slowly towards you. as you crouched down to clip athenas leash back on, a voice sounded out from the other end of the clearing the dogs had been playing on. a few minutes later you’d found yourself next to the man, who introduced himself as mitch and the adorable chocolate lab athena had been playing with as zeus. it hadn’t taken the both of you long to decide to get coffee together, both of you not wanting to separate your dogs, who kept on playfully nipping and nuzzling each other. you’d ended up exchanging phone numbers over that exact cup of coffee and would later name this your first date.
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
willy seems like a huge quality time guy to me, i think he’d like just being able to do his thing while you do yours. it’s how you end up because you try scheduling a date where you both find time for literal weeks but he has to manage practice and games and all sorts of media stuff and you’re busy yourself so you end up on opposite sides of his couch. your laptop on your lap, headphones in, typing away at school work or some project for your job while he takes calls and gives interviews and watches tape on the other end of the cushions, feet meeting in the middle. you indulge in some lingering looks and staring but also a game of footsies. there’s small breaks for a drink or a snack and of course a bit of chatting between the two of you and you’re surprised by how much you got done even though he can be pretty distracting if you peek over your laptop for too long (it also makes it even more rewarding when you both are able to close your laptops for the night and order some takeout for dinner and actually talk).
★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
i’m convinced leon hates dating, especially first dates. i think he’d just take you out for coffee or drinks regularly without ever telling you about his intentions, mask it as friends going out together. maybe you were friends with a teammate or a wag before and he started out inviting them as well but soon it turned into just the two of you to the point where you’re creating routines. drinks after wins, coffee after losses. lunches or dinners after special occasions - a hatty or a night with many points. it takes your friend complaining about how nobody ever puts effort into dates anymore for you to realize that maybe you’ve been subconsciously dating leon draisaitl for months. you’re hesitant about it for a few days but you can’t hold yourself back one night so you ask him for a real date, drinks at your favourite bar, one that’s a little bit of a hole in the wall. you’ve discovered it a few, well, dates in and you’ve frequented it ever since, trying yourselves through the drink menu and this time you spend a night actually flirting instead of dancing around each other.

you’re up early and just getting ready for your day when you receive connors text, “so i kinda broke my jaw last night, rain check on tonight?” and you’re instantly worried. usually you’d watch the blackhawks games but you’d fallen asleep over your work last night. “what do u mean u broke ur jaw? are you okay?” it takes him a while to answer and by the time you’re on your daily commute your phone vibrates again. “in a shit ton of pain and probably needing surgery but doing okay. sorry to have to reschedule, i was really looking forward to tonight :(” it’s your lunch break when you look at your phone again and you find a message by connors sister, who was the one to initially introduce the two of you. “hey, would you mind visiting connor sometime soon? we’re not getting in until the weekend and he’s been talking about your date a lot. he’s really bummed about his jaw so could you maybe cheer him up a little?” you instantly tell her yes and as soon as you’re able to log off you pick up some soup and ice cream and anything you hope he can eat before you make your way to connors. you’ve kept up a steady stream of texting to make sure he wouldn’t be asleep and he truly does look sad when he opens the door for you. after he’s eaten the soup and the two of you have curled up on his couch with the ice cream watching greys anatomy (you find it slightly out of place but he says he likes it because it reminds him of how much worse off he could be) he looks a little more relaxed.

you’d been taking cycling classes for basically your whole college career, liking the way you could fit so much exercise into so little time, especially during your sports off season. will had seen you leave the cycling room of the gym red-faced and on shaky legs multiple times and never failed to throw you an amused smile or a light chirp. he still didn’t believe it was all that exhausting though, no matter how many times you told him about it so for your first date you insisted on taking him to his first cycling class (and treat him for a juice at your favourite cafe when he inevitably has to admit it’s fucking tiring). you had the actual time of your life, watching your oh-so-athletic-hockey-player-date sweat buckets and gasp for air on the bike next to you and he vowed to never make fun of you ever again for your classes if he could take you ice skating for your next date.

guilty conscience - matthew tkachuk
Tumblr media
flames!matthew tkachuk x draisaitl!fem! reader pt.2
summary: you and matthew continue to sneak around, and leon figures out that something is up
warnings: langauge, mention of violence, implied smut, continuity is questionable because i didn’t plan to write a part two 😅, unrealistic leon behaviour
word count: 3.3k (oops) part one is here
it wasn’t even a month before the oilers and the flames met again, this time at home in edmonton. calgary being in town meant that matthew tkachuk was in town, and you thought back to that first night you had found yourself tangled up with the rival teams player; and all the times after. the two hour drive never stopped him from texting or calling after a tough loss, inviting you over to help him let off some steam. this quickly turned into meeting up to celebrate wins as well, and in the short few weeks since your first meeting, you felt as if you had spent more time in matthews bed than your own.
“are you gonna be at the game tonight?” he asked as he got dressed, staying at your place rather than a hotel; he would be sleeping there anyway.
“yes, but i am obligated to cheer for the oilers as long as my brother is on their team,” you laughed. leon had gotten you tickets for the game like he always did, the two of you having made up only a few days after the incident happened. however the thrill of sneaking around with matthew hadn’t worn off, even though you were no longer doing it to get back at your brother.
“how much would i have to pay you to wear my jersey to the game?” he teased, wrapping his arms around your waist as you pulled your t-shirt over your head.
“more money than your contract,” you replied. “if the crowd didn’t mob me, i think i’d be disowned by my family.”
matthew placed a kiss on your lips with a smile, and you fixed his curls that you had spent the last half hour tangling your fingers through.
“that’s too bad. you’d look hot wearing my number.”
“i wouldn’t look hot in the body bag they’d have to carry me out in. nevermind if leon found out why i was wearing it. you’d be in the back of the hearse with me.”
“as fun as that sounds,” he joked. “i have a game in a few days so-“ you interrupted him with a kiss.
“don’t worry. i’ll secretly be cheering for you,” you smiled. “you’re more fun to hang out with when you win.”
“hey,” he warned with a chuckle. “i gotta go, but i’ll meet you here after the game? we probably shouldn’t leave together…”
“you’re probably right. it’s already suspicious enough that you told the team you were staying with a friend instead of at the hotel with them.”
“is it so hard to believe i might have a friend?” he laughed, putting his shoes on to leave.
“sometimes,” you joked. “good luck,” you smiled as he snuck out of your apartment, shaking your head as you began to get ready to go to the game.
despite you wishing him good luck, the game went in favour of the oilers, this time the flames falling to edmonton in a 1-0 loss. at one point calgary had scored a goal to tie the game but it was waved off for interference.
your eyes met matthews on the bench, and you could tell he was frustrated as he slid his mouthguard back over his teeth. after the game ended, you went to meet up with leon backstage, the edmonton player in a significantly better mode than the last time you had seen him. he greeted you with a hug, and you returned it with a smile, but a sinking feeling sprouted in your stomach.
“hey, it’s good to see you,” your brother smiled, and you smiled back.
“you too. good game,” you commented, the words tasting funny in your mouth as you realized you didn’t mean them; and part of you wished calgary had won.
“yeah, a little bit of payback is nice. to bad we couldn’t get a few more goals, but i’ll take it,” he laughed. payback, you thought; that’s what matthew had been.
you weren’t sure that’s all it was anymore.
another month went by, the season nearing the midway point now. you scrolled through your phone as you waited for matthew to get out of the shower. you had spent the last few days at his house while the flames played a five game homestand, winning all but one; which meant matty was in a good mood going into the third matchup between the two alberta teams this season tonight. a message popped up on the screen, and you bit your lip as you replied to your brother.
Tumblr media
you hated lying to him, and you’d found yourself doing it more and more the closer you and matthew became. you couldn’t exactly tell him that you weren’t even in edmonton at the moment, instead two hours away after spending the week with a man he hated.
a man who you had fallen for; and fallen hard.
the man in question had the nerve to walk out of the bathroom in just a towel around his waist, hung low on his hips as the warm air rushed out of the bathroom and tickled your legs as you sat on the edge of his bed. he walked over and placed a kiss on the top of your head, quickly noticing your expression.
“what’s up?” matt asked, his eyebrows furrowed at the upset look on your face.
“nothing, it’s just leon.”
“did he say something to you?” he asked, his fist clenching slightly at his side.
“no, nothing like that,” you assured him as you looked up to meet his eyes, his gaze softening and his jaw unclenching as he relaxed. “i just hate lying to him about…”
“…us?”
“yeah. it was kind of fun at first, and now i’m just worried what’s gonna happen when he does find out. more so worried about what he’s going to do to you,” you admitted.
“come on, sneaking around is still a little bit fun,” he teased, and you managed to crack a smile. sometimes, you thought. “it’ll be okay, we will figure it out when we get to that point.”
“i don’t want him to kill you,” you said, taking his hand in yours, you fingers playing with his absentmindedly. “which is a real possibility-“ you laughed.
“i’ll be fine. come on, the guys might kill me if im late for the game.”
you were only thirty minutes through the two hour drive back to edmonton when your phone rang, leon’s name popping up on the screen. panicking slightly, you answered it, matthew glancing over from behind the wheel as your leg shook anxiously.
“hey, leon.”
“where are you?” he asked, no hello. not good, you thought, trying not to freak out.
“what?” you asked, hoping to find out why he was asking.
“where are you?”
“on my way to the arena,” that at least was true. “why what’s-“
“bullshit, your car is at home.”
“what - you drove by my house? why?”
“because you’ve been hiding something. why are you in calgary?” he asked, and your heart pounded in your chest. your phone location must have been left on by accident.
“i was visiting a friend-“
“without your car?”
“i got a ride - oh my god. you’re my brother not my dad, i don’t need to tell you where i am all the time.”
“why didn’t you tell me you were out of town when i texted you this morning?”
“not that i have to explain myself, leon, but i didn’t feel like typing it all out and i had just woken up.” with each lie you told, you knew you were burying yourself in a hole that was becoming harder and harder to dig out of.
“i’m not sure i believe you.”
“you don’t have to, but it’s the truth.” half true, you thought.
“if you say so.”
“whatever. i’ll see you after the game.” you hung up the phone and ran your hands over your face.
“i’m scared to ask…”
“he knows something is up,” you sighed. “i’m so dead. we’re both dead-“
“hey, just breathe okay?” his hand rested on your thigh reassuringly.
“we just have to be really careful.”
“baby, he’s gonna find out eventually. maybe it would be better if he found out sooner than later,” he suggested. in the short two months you had been with matthew, you weren’t sure exactly when it changed from just hooking up to something more. “unless you want to just stop and pretend this never happened...” he said, his jaw stiffening.
“is that what you want?” your heart beat sped up, but you breathed a soft sigh of relief as he shook his head.
“no, that’s not what i meant at all. as much as you might think i do, i don’t actually want to cause problems between you and your family,” he laughed, and once again you found yourself cracking a smile despite the situation.
“i like you a lot, matthew,” you admitted. “i don’t care what he says to me, he’s my brother and he’ll get over it. i’m just worried what he’ll do to you.”
“don’t worry about me. do you really think he’d be that mad that we’re dating?”
“…are we dating?” you asked for clarification. you’d never really discussed it.
“i mean .. you’ve been at my house for the last week. i kind of thought that made it clear that i want to be with you,” he shrugged with a smile.
“you do?”
“of course i do. did you think i didn’t?”
“i don’t know. maybe,” you laughed, and his hand squeezed your thigh.
“does that mean we’re dating?”
“yes, i guess it does,” you smiled, leaning over to kiss him softly.
you cheered internally for calgary as the game went on, sending matthew a smile as your eyes met his. the shared looks between you and the calgary flame didn’t go unnoticed by edmontons number 29, and he had to restrain himself from ramming matthew into the boards whenever they shared the ice. leon noticed how everytime the flames scored, matthew was looking for you in the stands. although you weren’t outwardly celebrating, you were happy the flames were winning. sure, leon would be pissed, but he could get over it.
you felt bad that once again, matthew had taken priority in your life over your brother, but you only wanted them to lose when they played calgary, so you didn’t feel too bad.
the game ended with calgary winning 5 - 2, and you tried not to look too happy as you waited for leon to get out of the dressing room. when he did, he was in a mood again, this time not because of the loss, but because of the way he had caught tkachuk staring at his little sister.
“hey,” you greeted him.
“hey. i’m sorry about how i acted on the phone earlier,” he apologized, greeting you with a hug that surprised you slightly. “you’re right, you don’t have to tell me where you are all the time.”
“thank you. i’m sorry about the game.” his face dropped and he shrugged, his eyes catching sight of a familiar head of curls down the hall. leon’s anger got the best of him, and he marched toward matthew and tapped him on the shoulder, causing him to turn around.
“i don’t know if you’re just trying to piss me off, but quit looking at my sister and focus on the game, yeah?” he warned, and matthew looked slightly confused, his eyes glancing to you as you shook your head behind leon. your brother poked his shoulder to gain his attention back. “don’t look at her.”
“maybe you’re the one who should focus on the game. remember which team won,” matthew laughed, and you could tell this was not going to end well.
“leon, just leave it. are you really gonna pick a fight with someone for looking at me?” you knew they didn’t get along, but this was beyond what you’d expected.
“when he’s a prick like this guy-“
“leon! enough,” you pulled on his arm. “let’s just go home before you do something you regret.”
“i wouldn’t regret it,” he said stepping closer till he was nearly face to face with matthew. you could tell that matt was keeping quiet for your sake, and you appreciated it as you stared in disbelief at your brother. he had never been this overprotective before, and you barely recognized him.
“what the hell has gotten into you? i’m sorry you lost but you don’t get to act like an asshole because of it. you’re making a scene.”
you stepped in between them, pushing leon back from matthew and putting some much needed space between them.
“why are you defending him?”
“why are you acting like this? you’re being ridiculous!
“why is he looking at you like that? why did he spend the whole game watching you?”
“who cares?” you argued, as you felt everything crumbling around you. leon glanced from you to matthew, who stood back and kept his mouth shut for your sake.
“who were you with in calgary?” leon asked, starting to connect the dots in his head.
“leon-“
“who. were. you. with?” he demanded.
“it’s none of your business who i was with!”
leon wasn’t listening anymore, instead staring a hole into matthew, who if looks could kill would be six feet underground.
“it’s not enough to be an jerk on the ice, you have to go and get with my sister just to piss me off?” leon took a step towards the younger man, your hands on his chest doing little to slow him down. matthew opened his mouth to speak, but you did first.
“it wasn’t like that leon,” you defended your boyfriend. “it was my idea.” leon stopped, looking down at you with wide eyes.
“tell me you’re joking right now-“ he spoke calmly, but you knew he was anything but calm, which made it even scarier.
“i’m not,” you said. “i went to him.”
“how long?” his jaw clenched as he stared at you, his eyes filled with hatred; for you or matthew you weren’t so sure anymore.
“it doesn’t matter - it’s not gonna change how much you hate me right now,” you said, hoping that he would just let it go. no such luck.
“how long?” he repeated.
“since november.”
“you’ve been sleeping with my sister for two months?” he yelled at matthew, his raised voice drawing the attention of a few other players from each team as they left their locker rooms. “and you-“ he poked your shoulder harshly. “you’ve been lying to me about it for 2 months? everytime you told me you were busy or had plans - you were with him?” he said, a disgusted look on his face.
“i’m sorry,” you pleaded as tears began to well in your eyes.
“why did you do it? why him?”
“i knew it would piss you off,” you said honestly. “after that game in november you were so rude to me, and i know it was wrong, but i wanted to get back at you somehow. but it’s not about that anymore, leon. i really like him.”
“were you ever going to tell me?”
“yes, i promise. i just knew how you would react-“ he scoffed, interrupting you.
“you mean how i would react to finding out that my little sister got with a guy she knows i don’t like just to make me mad?”
“it sounds really bad when you say it like that,” you looked down at the floor as leon laughed in disbelief.
“it sounds really bad? it is bad!” he snapped. matthew tried to send the few calgary players who had gathered away, assuring them that he was fine and he didn’t need their help. a few edmonton players lingered outside their locker room as well, aware of who you were and wondering what was going on.
“i’m sorry,” you repeated.
“i would expect something like this from him, but you? this is a new low. maybe you two are perfect for eachother.” leon began to walk away, and you called after him.
“please, leon. i know it was wrong, but it’s not up to you who i date.” he stopped, but didn’t turn around.
“you’re right,” he said coldly. “i just think it’s best that you stay away from me for a while.” your heart broke as you realized just how bad you had screwed up. “and get him out of my sight before i decide not to be so nice.”
matthews arms wrapped around your waist from behind as you watched leon walk away with his teammates, and you turned around to bury your face in the crook of his neck.
“i’m sorry,” he mumbled, kissing the top of your head as you cried, your arms thrown around his shoulders.
“he’ll get over it eventually,” you sniffled. “thank you for not saying anything to piss him off even more.” he laughed, his chest shaking lightly as he rubbed your back.
“i try to be on my best behaviour,” he teased. the few flames players that had been lingering around came over to check on you and matthew, one of them you recognized as matthew’s friend sam bennett.
“best behaviour my ass,” he joked. “leave it to you to stir up drama with draisaitl.”
“hey,” matthew warned lightly, but you laughed.
“two draisaitl’s actually. leon is my brother.”
“that explains it,” sam said, patting matthew on the shoulder. “good work, genius.”
“it was a mutual agreement to piss him off, for the record.” matthew defended himself.
“well,” sam said, looking in the direction that leon had gone. “looks like it worked.”
matthew punched his shoulder with a laugh, and you felt a smile creep onto your face despite everything.
“you wanna come for drinks with us?” one of the other flames asked, and you looked at matthew for his answer.
“what do you say? you officially switching sides?” he joked, and you shook your head with a laugh.
“what the hell, sure,” you agreed. matthew smiled, kissing you softly as the guys cheered. you followed them hand in hand with matthew as you walked you to his car, a bittersweet feeling in your chest.
leon had reacted about as well as you thought he would, but he hadn’t killed matthew, so that was a plus. you just worried for the next time they played eachother; but that wasn’t for weeks. maybe leon would calm down by then.
the older draisaitl watched from across the parking lot as you laughed with matthew and his friends.
“i know it sucks that she lied to you, but she looks happy,” connor mcdavid offered. leon simply shot him a glare, and he didn’t mention it again as connor got into the car without another word.
he hated that he was right; you did look happy. eventually he would get over it, but it still hurt that you had gone behind his back specifically to get back at him; even if he had kinda deserved it.
you didn’t notice leon watching you as got into the car with matthew, his hand holding yours over the center console as you followed behind sam’s car to the bar.
“i’m suprised he didn’t punch you, so i suppose that could have gone worse,” you laughed half heartedly. “congratulations on the win, by the way.”
“he might just be saving it for the next game,” he laughed. “and thank you. i’m sorry.”
“i knew what i was doing, you don’t have to apologize. and as much as it sucks that my brother hates my guts right now, i still have a pretty cool boyfriend at the end of the day,” you smiled, and matthew brought your joined hands up to his mouth to kiss the your knuckles, his facial hair tickling your skin.
“does that mean you’ll wear my jersey to the next game?” he asked with a goofy smiled.
“don’t push it.”

Something...? - Leon Draisaitl
summary: it was supposed to be casual, something that would only happen once or twice a year whenever he was in town. Unfortunately, like most times, feelings got involved you are faced with a choice.
pairing: Leon Draisaitl x female!reader
word count: 3.3k
warnings: hints to sex (no on page intercourse)
authors note:
it was only a matter of time until I published something for my German king so here we are
----------------------------------
The soft rumpling of the crisp white sheets slowly woke you up. You blinked slowly. The bright lights coming through the window on your left stinging in your eyes. When you fully opened you were faced with the sight of his bare back.
Regret took over your emotions. You once again fell for the flowers and the sweet words written on the card that were sent over to your apartment last night. “I´ll go shower, back in a few.” His German accent more prominent in the morning. Like English hadn’t quite settled in yet. “Stay if you want. Order breakfast?”
They had an off-day today and since it was a Saturday you didn’t have to go to work so you opted for staying.
A shiver went down your spine. This is how it always was. He sent flowers. A hotel key card tucked inside an envelope with a note between them. You followed suit. Showed up at the hotel an hour later. He had already ordered something to eat. You chatted, ate, maybe watched a movie before one of you would eventually take the first step to you hooking up.
It was an arrangement you had for years now. You met at a hockey event a few years ago. He was there with Connor McDavid who obviously took the entire spotlight. Leon snuck off to a quiet corner, a bottle of beer in one hand, scrolling through his phone with the other.
You were taking a break from the organizer duties. Your boss told you, you could take a few minutes, get something to eat and drink before making sure everything was running smoothly. You ended up in the same corner as him and got to chatting.
He was his usual grumpy self which normally would have put you off, but he delivered it with so much charm that you couldn’t help but find it funny.
When you met him again after the event, he invited you for another drink which eventually led to your first hook up.
A one-time only thing, or so you thought, but he asked for your number with the promise that he would reach out when he was in Vancouver the next time.
And so, he did. An invitation for dinner followed the next time the Edmonton Oilers stepped into Vancouver to take on the Canucks and it spiraled from there.
First, it was dinner and a hook-up. You left shortly after it was “done” but over the course of the years the two of you developed a friendship. You talked about life, he about hockey, you about your work as an event coordinator for a hockey gear brand.
He invited you to a game every now and then, you watched movies, fell asleep cuddling after sex. It was like the two of you were a couple. But only for the two times a year he was in town.
You never visited him in Edmonton but outside of those days communication between the two of you was more or less frequent. At least when he was in North America.
He sent you pictures of things he saw on the road or random updates throughout the day when he was in Edmonton. It almost was like you were in a long-distance relationship.
At least until the summer arrived and he was off to spend it in Europe. As soon as he touched ground in Germany or on Mallorca where his vacation home was, it was like he forgot you existed.
You only saw him through Instagram stories over the summer. Connor had gotten married, and he posed as one of the groomsmen. A beautiful brunette on his arm. His girlfriend. You thought at the time.
But when a bouquet of beautiful flowers showed up on your door, an envelope with a key card and a note tucked inside the next time the Oilers were in town you knew she couldn’t have been.
And so, the arrangement continued.
This was the first time he came to town this season; you had spent the night having dinner at your favorite restaurant and then going back to his hotel where he all but ripped your clothes off as soon as the door closed behind you.
It wasn´t the first time you woke up with this heavy feeling in your stomach. During the course of the off-season, when he went back to Europe, you did a lot of thinking.
A co-worker had invited you on a date over the summer. It did not end up working out but that was the first time when you really thought about what you and Leon had. You weren’t a couple. You were fuck buddies? Friends probably.
You didn’t even know if it was an exclusive hook-up of if he had another girl in each city he visited over the course of the NHLs season. Yet you still showed up. With a heavy pit in your stomach but not ready to call it quits on your arrangement just yet.
-------------------------
Leon returned from the shower a few minutes later. Hair still dripping, just a towel adorning his muscular body. You were still only wearing the shirt you stole from him last night after a shower.
Over time you brought a bag to your meetings. Just some toiletries and a change of clothes because you knew you would always stay the night at this point.
“You´re a sight for sore eyes,” the German mumbled when he spotted you in the same spot he left you in.
“You´re not so bad yourself,” you replied laughing. “Oh, you heard that?” he laughed. You flashed him a bright smile and when he returned it with one of his own your heart fluttered.
You tried to deny your growing feelings towards him for a while now. Ignore the way your heart jumped when you saw him somewhere. In person or just on the TV screen or a post on social media.
Also, the way it wrenched when you saw another woman in his arms. Like at the wedding.
“Did you order some food?” he asked, rubbing another towel over his wet hair in an attempt to dry it before he pulled a hoodie over his head. “No, you were gone for like ten minutes only.” He laughed again.
“I´ll call, what do you want?” You told him your breakfast order before flicking the sheets away and grabbing a brush from your bag that laid abandoned on the chair to the right of the bed.
His eyes wandered over your bare legs. His shirt ended in the middle of your thigh which gave him plenty of ways to imagine. Not that he hadn’t seen and worshipped what was underneath it just hours ago.
“Any plans for today?” You shook your head, and his eyes slightly lit up. “Why, do you have any for me?” you teased. “I might come up with something,” he mumbled before walking over to you, placing a heated kiss to your lips. “What about breakfast?” you whispered against his lips.
“I think breakfast can wait a bit longer.”
----------------
A while later the two of you came up for air and actually ordered breakfast while the pit in your stomach grew twice the size it was before. Your feelings for him were unavoidable at this point.
The way he worshipped your body whenever you were in his bed alongside the way he treated you like you were the greatest thing in his world whenever you were around didn’t help.
You knew you could not go on like this, but you didn’t know how to bring it up either.
Suddenly, the urge to run punched you straight in your gut. The sheets felt too heavy. The grey clouds looming over Vancouver felt too dark. The air too thick. You wanted to scramble out and leave. The reality of it all attacking you like an arrow.
You were in love with him.
“I need to go,” you breathed out, hands starting to tremble. Leon turned towards you, looking at you with concern. “What´s going on?” but before you replied you were already scrambling out of the sheets. Throwing them to the foot end of the bed rushing to gather your things that were scattered all over the room.
“What is going on?” Leon asked again, confusion and worry written all over his face. But you couldn’t look into his eyes. Just being in his presence right now made your skin crawl.
As you were grabbing your shoes that you discarded in a hurry in the middle of the room, he grabbed your arm and yanked you around just forceful enough that you were facing him.
“What. is. going. on,” he repeated again, punctuating every word to get his point across this time. “Nothing, I just need to go,” you muttered. “What about breakfast?” you laughed but not because what he said was funny. It was a sarcastic laugh, more a huff than anything else.
“Goodbye, Leon.” You shook his hand from your arm, grabbing your bag and phone before rushing out of the room, leaving the confused German behind.
--------------
When you returned to your apartment 30 minutes later you felt like you brought enough distance between you and the hockey player to breathe freely again. Several deep breaths later your trembling hands relaxed, and your brain finally caught up with what you just did.
Slumping down on your couch you buried your hands in your head. It was all too much in this moment. The feelings of disappointment thinking that he didn’t feel the same thing for you. The uncertainty that came with how you left things.
But at the same time, it felt like you are finally setting boundaries for yourself. Staying with him after your hook-up was deemed to become messy. So was hanging out with him. This was supposed to be simple. Keep the both of you from having to commit to a full term relationship. But you took a wrong turn along the way.
You were craving companionship. Someone to share a life with and in a lot of ways you realized today that this person would probably not be Leon.
------------------
A few hours after your initial breakdown you were nestled on your couch, a cup of tea stewing in front of you, an empty bowl of your favorite ice cream sitting next to it.
You were wallowing in self-pity. Ignoring how your phone was chiming on the table every now and then. It didn’t matter what Leon had to say. Or what anyone else had to say either.
Thinking about the many ways you could end it with him but none of them seem right.
Ending it with a text would be the easiest option but he didn’t deserve that after the years of "commitment" you shared.
Calling him didn’t seem right either but gathering the courage to invite him over or go back to the hotel was beyond what you could do today.
They were in Vancouver until tomorrow when they´d leave right after the game so you technically only had today to come up with it. But you were tired.
It was the knock on your door that startled you. It was the middle of the afternoon, and you did not exactly expect anyone to show up at your house today.
Opening the door the decision you were struggling with for the past hours was taken from you when the exact problem stood in front of your door.
Leon looked great, effortlessly put together like always. Hair tussled like he had run his hand through it many times. A fitted dark shirt paired with a light jacket. Simple yet your heart started to beat a little faster at his sight.
“Leon,” you mumbled. He lifted his head. Eyes locking with yours. “Can I come in?” he asked the awkward energy that surrounded this exchange growing stronger by the second.
“Uh… sure.” You stepped away from the door, opening it to its full extent to let the hockey player inside. He looked around the room curiously. Through all the years he never stepped foot into the apartment, always waiting downstairs in the car on the rare occasions he was picking you up personally.
“Do you want something to drink?” you offered to break the silence. “No, thanks.”
“What is going on?” Leon asked again, giving you no time to breathe or gather your thoughts.
You took a deep breath. Trying to sort the thoughts that were spiraling inside your head before you brought up what was going on.
The air felt thick. Tension so high you would be able to cut it with a knife if it was something physically cuttable.
“Ever considered sending me flowers without a keycard for a hotel room tucked inside?”
You didn’t know where the accusation came from. This was not an approach you worked through before he showed up here.
His reaction happened slightly delayed but when the words settled into his mind his face turned from slightly concerned and confused to even more confuse with hints of anger, concern vanished in the blink of an eye.
“What do you mean have I ever considered sending you flowers without a card? What are you implying?” His voice was fully of accusation just like yours was seconds before. It was obvious that you took him off guard with what you said an he was matching your energy.
“I don’t know, Leon. What am I implying? Maybe that I am tired of this arrangement? That I caught feelings for you along the way and am now debating how to tell you that before breaking up whatever we had.” Taking a second to breathe what you just spilled out caught up with your brain. “Well, I guess I just did.”
“You´re in love with me?” he repeated. “But this was supposed to be a simple hook up only.” A pang shot right through you at his words. You feared getting exactly this reaction from him.
“So this is all it was to you?” You questioned, defeat heavy in your voice. “A simple hook up?” tears started to pick at the corner of your eyes. At the very least you hoped that he considered what you had a friendship.
I guess you were wrong.
“No, damn.” He brushed his hand over his face, letting out a defeated breath. “It wasn’t just a simple hook up to me, but I thought it was just a hook up to you.”
His words made you look up again. His eyes were wide, as if his own reaction had shocked him. “At the beginning you said you wanted something casual, and I thought seeing each other a few times a year was just that.”
“I did, at the beginning. But like I said I lost track along the way.” Taking in a deep breath you considered you next words carefully.
“I went on a few dates over the summer. When you were in Europe, after I saw you with a woman at Connors wedding. I thought she was your girlfriend, and it hurt me. I thought you didn’t even have the guts to tell me our arrangement was over and instead just expect me to realize that it was.”
His face dropped, expression hardening immediately. It was like you saw his heart break and his defense coming out right in front of your eyes.
“You just claimed you were in love with me but now you´re telling me you went on dates?” the accusation stung.
“Because I thought you were dating someone. You can’t really fault me for believing that after you cozied up to her in the wedding pictures," you uttered defeated.
“She was Laurens maid of honor for fucks sake. I never did anything with her besides walk down the aisle and take pictures like Connor and Lauren wanted and do you want to know what I thought the whole time?” His voice was loud, he was almost shouting which made you scared that the neighbors would hear what was happening inside your walls.
You didn’t even get the chance to reply before he continued. “The whole time I wished I could have been there with you. Of course, I still would have had to take these pictures, but I would have known that after I got to have the most beautiful woman on my arm, introducing her to everyone as my girl.”
Your mouth flew open at his words. Hearing him call you “my girl” did something to you that you never experienced before. Your entire body began to tingle, and a warm feeling spread from your toes all the way into the strands of your hair.
“What are you saying?” you dared to ask, unsure if you even wanted to hear the answer because you knew exactly what he was about to say.
“I´m saying, I got lost on the way too. And that I would love to end this arrangement but only if that meant that I get to call you my girlfriend.” His usual grumbly voice was full of emotion which made it higher than usual. The heated exchange making his usual slim German accent even more prominent that waking up did.
You stopped dead in your tracks. Your heart beating faster than you had ever felt it beat before. I would love to end this arrangement, but only if that meant that I get to call you my girlfriend.
The sentence played on loop in your head as you just kept starring at him, wondering if you didn’t just imagine this whole exchange. Your heartbeat thumbing in your ear, the sound of the TV you left on in the living room suddenly feeling more prominent than before.
Leon took two large strides to get to where you were standing almost at the other side of the room. He took your hands in his and looked you with a pleading glaze.
You blinked rapidly, hoping to force your brain to catch up with the situation quicker.
“We really just acted like complete idiots?” were the first words that left your mouth after your confession. “I hate the miscommunication trope so much in books but now I´m here living it myself.”
Based on his facial expression he had no clue what you just said but that wasn’t important in this moment. All that mattered was that what you wanted had been right in front of you the whole time, but you were too afraid to pick up on it.
“I didn’t think the great Leon Draisaitl was too afraid to tell a girl that he likes her, even if she told him that she didn’t want more than a casual hook-up when he´s in town.” You teased, suddenly feeling a million pounds lighter.
He scrunched his eyes, and a slight pout formed on his lips. “It´s not like you told me how you felt either.” And he wasn’t wrong with that.
“Can you put me out of my misery and just say yes to being my girlfriend already?” He rushed, playing fake annoyed.
“I don’t know…” you mumbled, letting him hang by a thread just a little bit longer. “… you live in Edmonton, I live here. You´re also always busy with hockey and not even in the country half of the year. How would we make this work?”
You knew you had him on the hook when the color drained from his face.
“I´m just kidding, I know it will take work, but I believe that we can do it.” The expression that adorned his face had you starting to giggle. “That was not cool.”
You just shrugged your shoulders before taking another step towards him, interlinking your hands behind his neck. “So, now that you are apparently my boyfriend. Can I make demands? Even though I know how much you hate being told what to do?”
A teasing smile spread on your lips. “You can try; I won´t make any promises.” He grumbled. His usual self making a return after everything that happened.
“Kiss me, boyfriend.” You demanded and of course, he obliged.

Costume party - L. Draisaitl
Tumblr media
Summary: finding the perfect couples costume was turning out to be harder than you thought.
The sixth of my Autumn & Halloween blurbs! There’s no way Leon isn’t the most competitive about costumes.
Word Count: 631 words

One of your favourite times of the year was Halloween. It always had been, but ever since you started dating Leon, it was one of the highlights of your social calendar. The team party especially was always so much fun, mainly because of the costume competition.
Well, competition was a loose term. There were no prizes, no official judging, but it was a matter of pride among the team, and this meant you (and the rest of the WAGs) got swept along into it.
Leon was particularly competitive (who could’ve guessed), and as always he wanted to be the best. And look the best, naturally.
The two of you had spent weeks deciding on your couples costume. There were initially ideas of going as a big group costume with multiple other people, or in a small group costume with Connor and Lauren, but in the end it boiled down to the two of you doing things by yourselves, which was more than fine with you.
Leon had been particularly picky this year though, crossing off ideas from your list with ruthless abandon:
Mario and Princess Peach.
Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington
Beetlejuice and Lydia Deetz
Barbie and Ken
Elizabeth Swan and Will Turner
Jessie and Woody
All of them were decent ideas, and you know the two of you could have easily pulled them off, but your boyfriend wanted something that he knew for certain no-one else on the team would do. Which is how you ended up with your final choice - Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Leon’s sister had been ranting about having to watch Tangled on repeat thanks to her children, and the idea had struck a chord with Leon, and it hadn’t taken much to persuade you.
Leon had ordered a dark green tunic, billowing white shirt, loose brown pants, and mid-shin high brown boots from a professional costume maker. Apparently he’d used her in previous years through Etsy and now ordered directly. So naturally you’d put in your order with the same costume maker, ordering a pale lilac corset dress with beautiful ribbon detail as well as flower and vine stitching on the shoulder-puff sleeves and hem. On your own you’d found a realistic long blonde wig that you’d arranged for the maker to braid with flowers, as well as buying some lilac silk ballet pumps and a plastic saucepan to hang at your waist. It wasn’t too over the top, but you felt like you’d put in enough effort to get the compliments you deserved. The two of you were going to look amazing together, you knew that much. Especially as Leon had grown out his hair a little to give it that swoopy Disney effect.
“How do I look, liebling?”
You glanced over your shoulder, a wide smile instantly spreading across your face as you turned around to face him properly. Leon was leaning against the doorway all nonchalant, but you could tell his eyes were serious about your approval.
“Very dashing, Flynn. Or should I say Eugene?” you teased.
Leon just laughed, a note of relief sliding in, and he strode forward to peck a kiss to your lips, letting it linger as you tilted your head up.
“You look amazing, just so you know,” he murmured.
“I’d better. This wig and this corset dress took long enough to arrive,” you mused, fighting the heat that rose to your cheeks.
Leon took your hand, stepping backward just enough to spin you around under his arm, making you laugh as you twirled, lilac skirt flaring out perfectly.
“Amazing. Beautiful. Du siehst perfekt aus,” he said smoothly.
Charmer.
“Flattery will get you everywhere,” you grinned.
“Good to know,” he grinned back, knowing full well what complimenting you in German resulted in.
“Shall we kick some costume party ass then, Flynn?”
“Absolutely, Rapunzel.”

The One | L Draisaitl
Tumblr media
It had been building for months.
The teasing glances across the room, the way your hands lingered when you touched, the unspoken something hanging in the air between you and Leon.
You met through Connor and Lauren, falling seamlessly into the team’s social circle, and from the moment you and Leon locked eyes, it felt inevitable.
Everyone could see it—Connor, Lauren, the team. Even you.
But then, the night it should have happened, the night you should have been his, it all went wrong.
You still replayed it in your head, over and over.
The team had gone out to celebrate a big win, drinks flowing, music loud, everything electric. You and Leon had been side by side all night, your bodies constantly drawn to each other, the rest of the world fading away.
Then, near the end of the night, you finally worked up the courage to ask him:
“What are we doing, Leon?”
His expression flickered for just a second—something unreadable in his eyes before his face smoothed into something neutral.
“I don’t know” he said, running a hand through his hair “I mean… we’re good like this, right?”
And just like that, the air was sucked from your lungs.
Good like this.
You had been so sure he felt it too. So sure that whatever was happening between you was real, was leading somewhere. But in that moment, as he stood there, hesitating, you felt like a fool.
So you smiled like it didn’t hurt. You swallowed down the lump in your throat and laughed.
“Yeah” you lied “Yeah, we’re good like this”
And then, a few weeks later, you met him.
The man who became your boyfriend. The man who, on paper, seemed like a good choice.
The man who was not Leon.
Leon didn’t let himself be near you alone often.
It was too dangerous. Too tempting.
But sometimes, it was unavoidable.
Like now, at Connor and Lauren’s house, where the two of you were helping set up for a party before the rest of the team arrived.
It should have been easy. Just another night. But then you did something simple — laughed at something he said, your hand brushing his forearm as you reached for a drink — and it unraveled him.
He looked at you, and for a second, it was like nothing had changed.
Like you weren’t with someone else.
Like there wasn’t a weight pressing against his ribs, reminding him of the words he should have said.
But then, right on cue, your boyfriend walked in, draping an arm over your shoulder, pressing a kiss to your temple.
Leon clenched his jaw, looking away, swallowing down the bitterness rising in his throat.
This happened all the time.
Moments where it felt like you were his, only for reality to snap back into place, sharp and unforgiving.
“Hey, man” your boyfriend said, offering Leon a grin like he hadn’t just walked in and shattered the moment. “Didn’t know you were here”
Leon forced a tight smile “Yeah. Just helping out”
Your boyfriend nodded, then turned back to you “Babe, I was thinking—after the season, we should take a trip. Maybe somewhere warm”
You hummed noncommittally, but Leon saw it—that hesitation, the flicker of something that told him you weren’t as happy as you pretended to be.
But you still stayed.
And that killed him most of all.
The night it all came crashing down, you were already outside when Leon found you, sitting on the steps of your apartment building, staring up at the dark sky.
He hesitated before walking over, hands shoved in his pockets “You okay?”
You let out a breath, almost a laugh “I broke up with him”
Leon’s heart clenched. He should have been relieved. Maybe he was. But more than anything, he saw the exhaustion on your face, the weight on your shoulders.
“Why?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper.
You ran a hand through your hair, sighing. “Because it wasn’t right. Because I think… I think I was trying to force something that was never going to fit”
Silence stretched between you.
And then, softer, you added, “And because I was in love with someone else before I ever even met him”
Leon sucked in a breath.
And then, before he could stop himself, it all came rushing out.
“Then why the hell did you let me go?” His voice cracked with frustration, months—years—of bottled-up emotions spilling out.
Your head snapped up in shock “What?”
“You think I didn’t want you?” he scoffed, running a hand through his hair, eyes wild with anger and something deeper, something raw “Jesus, do you know how many nights I’ve spent wishing I could take that moment back? That I could go back and tell you everything I felt?”
Your mouth opened, but no words came out.
Leon let out a bitter laugh “You looked at me like I was everything, and I—” He exhaled sharply, voice thick “I fucking panicked. I thought I was protecting you from me. That I’d mess it up, that I’d ruin you, that I’d never be good enough for you”
You stood suddenly, anger flashing in your own eyes now “So instead, you let me believe I was crazy? That I imagined everything between us?”
“I thought I had more time!” he nearly shouted. His voice echoed through the empty street, his hands clenching into fists “I thought—fuck, I thought you’d still be there when I figured it out”
You shook your head, eyes burning “I waited for you, Leon. I waited. And then I convinced myself I had to move on because you made me feel like I had no choice”
His face twisted, pain flickering across his features “I know. And I hated every second of it. Watching you with him. Seeing you smile at him the way you used to smile at me” He let out a broken breath “It killed me.”
Tears welled in your eyes, but you refused to blink them away “You don’t get to be angry, Leon. You let me go”
“I know” His voice was softer now, raw and pleading. He stepped closer, inches away, gaze burning into yours “But I swear to God, I won’t do it again. Just tell me I still have a chance. Tell me I haven’t lost you for good”
Your breath hitched.
Your heart still ached, still carried the weight of the pain, the doubts, the fear that maybe this would all come crashing down again.
So you whispered, voice shaking, “I don’t know if I can trust you with my heart again”
Leon’s jaw clenched. His hands curled into fists at his sides.
And then, with the kind of desperation that only came from loving someone too much for too long, he rasped, “Then let me fucking earn it”
A tear slipped down your cheek.
And finally, you whispered, “Okay”
This time, when he reached for you, you let him.
And this time, you didn’t let go.

‘I Knew They Didn’t Actually Hate Each Other!’ | Leon Draisaitl
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: lauren and connor mcdavid have very different reactions when finding out their best friends don't actually hate one another.
[word count] 2.8k
warnings: kissing | swearing | mature dialogue
a/n: a requested follow up part to couldn’t make it any harder! this is short and sweet but i’m absolutely certain this is how these interactions would go down if this was real life situation. ENJOY MY LEON GIRLIES 🧡💙
───────── ౨ৎ ─────────
lauren knew.
okay, well, no she didn't know. but your best friend had a good incline that you were seeing some one.
it started with the smaller details. there was always fresh flowers—beautiful, expensive ones at that—on your kitchen countertop, accompanied by one of those little card holders. the note is always missing, meaning that you've put it somewhere. to which lauren says, suspicious.
less movie nights at lauren's because 'you're swamped with work.' more like swamped with sex. and you're always smiling, even when everyone is out together.
which unless lauren is fucking crazy and is completely remembering the past 7 years or so incorrectly, that was totally unheard of—especially when leon draisital is in the vicinity.
and lauren's pretty sure that she saw a hickey on your boob when your tank top shifted during hot yoga two weeks ago.
the math was just mathing, okay!
it started after the wedding. where as lauren was hungover and still wearing what felt like a million pounds of makeup from the night before, you waltzed into the room with a glow and a smile on your fresh face.
she'd honestly brushed that incident off until everything else starting falling into place like the perfect puzzle—but then lauren got to thinking. did you meet someone that night?
lauren has spent the past two months racking her brain for answers—answers to a question she wasn't going to ask you yet, because obviously she was determined to figure it out on her own before all else.
it was like the damn bachelorette in her head as lauren mentally assessed every single guy she and connor had at their wedding—trying to pinpoint which ones would capture her best friends attention enough for it to stick.
but no matter how many times lauren tried to work it all out, she came up short for answers.
you and this secret relationship are a mystery to her.
so it was this random september afternoon that lauren mcdavid decided she was going to get her answers—hold you down and physically pull them from your tongue if she has to. because your best friend is sick of being in the dark, especially when she knows….something is going on.
she can feel it in her damn gut.
so with an extra tight ponytail and her purse swinging loosely at her side, lauren knocks on your apartment door—so loud and aggressively that she almost scares herself. it's rather comical in the way she jerks her hand away from the wood at the sound.
she knows your home. wednesday's are your half days, meaning you only work in the morning. this time of year, just before the hockey season really starts up, connor's days are similar. and that’s how lauren remembers said information.
lauren was tempted to wait for her husband to get back from his suit fitting and make him come with her to your place—because like the whole good cop, bad cop idea sounded really appealing in her head—but lauren was too impatient.
she knocks again after a beat passes without any sound or sign of movement. it's only then that she hears your shaky voice through the door.
"sorry, one second!"
she squints incredulously at the door, even though you can't see her, her arms crossed over her chest like an impatient child. and sure, maybe she is impatient, but lauren feels that it's justified if you're keeping damn secrets from her like a freak.
finally, the apartment door is hastily pulled open, a gust of air pulling in the space between you and your best friend like the beginning of a storm. and perhapes lauren should've taken that as a sign.
at the sight of her, your eyes widen slightly, a wave of panic settling over your already frantic tainted features. you're slightly breathless, tank top a little askew like you've only just pulled it over the black bra lauren can see adorning your chest.
"hey," you greet, running a hand through your tousled hair, "I wasn't expecting you."
lauren's gaze narrows as she takes in your state, "I know. thought i'd drop in."
"oh," you swallow before giving a short laugh, "i'm actually just about to head out." another laugh, "yeah i'm just...I need eggs."
"eggs?"
"yeah!" you nod with seemingly panicked enthusiasm before giving a quick glance over your shoulder. you think it's discrete enough, but lauren catches it.
she gives you a once over again, eyes trickling all the way down to your bare feet. it's then that lauren notices the shoes left hazardly by the front door. men's sneakers—men's sneakers that have been seemingly removed in a hast to be exact.
her lips part in shock, a tiny strangled gasp leaving her mouth as her eyes dart back to yours. "you're seeing someone! and he's in here right now, isn't he?"
this time, it's your turn to gasp. "i'm not seeing anyone!"
lauren raises a brow, "oh yeah?"
"yeah."
"okay, then who got you those flowers on your island?"
your jaw goes slack, mouth opening like you want to rattle off some sort of excuse, but the words never come.
lauren continues once she sees the little beige envelope still perched next to the beautiful arrangement of florals—pushing her way into your apartment like a woman on a mission. and that she is. "if you're not going to tell me, i'll just take a peek at that little card, mhm?"
"no!"
you dart past her, snatching the note before she has a chance to grab it.
and that’s the moment lauren’s knows that’s she’s been right all along. she makes a noise between a scoff and a laugh, dropping her expensive handbag to your barstool roughly. "okay, fine. i'll just find him then. 'cause I know he's in here."
"trust me when I tell you, this is not the way you want to meet him."
she stops walking, spinning on her heels as her inspector gadget brain starts up again. all half sarcastic hostility leaving her body as straight curiosity takes over—"so I haven't meet him before? because I've been trying to work out for the past few months if it was somebody at the wedding."
your eyes widen, "you've been sitting on this for months?"
"yeah! and it's been a damn uncomfortable seat because you didn't have the gut to just tell me about him," she trails off, "is he like a criminal or something?"
"no." you're quick to answer, "i'm pretty sure we'd both know that by now if that was the case." your slip up has your tongue going dry, eyes widening to a certain point that it looks painful.
"ha!" lauren points an accusing finger in your direction, "so I do know him."
"yes," you croak out, "but seriously let's just sit down and talk about this before you start searching my place like you're a FBI agent."
lauren doesn't even wait for you to finish before she's walking through your place, opening and closing closet doors on her way down the hall like a search dog. much to her dismay, the linen closet is empty, as well as the space you keep your holiday decorations.
the lack of man makes her scowl.
you're hot on lauren's heels, a blabbing mess of half strung together pleas falling on deaf ears as lauren pushes open your bedroom door.
there's a pair of jeans on the floor, half kicked under the bed like you—or whoever this man is—tried to hide them in a hurry. "is he in here?" lauren shoots you a pointed look. you wince, and she gets her confirmation. "is he in your closet?"
"i'm telling you right now, lauren, don't open the closet."
"i'm definitely going to open it."
and she does. and the sight before her immediately ignites a sound that can only be described as a wail. lauren shuts the closet door, a hand over her mouth while she blinks in a half shell shocked way.
a tense beat passes with lauren just staring off into space, and you anxiously biting the skin around your thumb nail, nervous gaze never once flickering from your best friend.
leon slips out between your closet doors a moment later, dressed in only his boxers. he has an awkward smile on his face and a hand cupping over his semi hard junk—trying to conceal all that from his teammates wife.
"hey lauren, how's it going?"
"what the fuck!" she gasps, looking between you both.
"you?"
you grimace, but nod.
"and you?"
leon nods.
“oh my god,” lauren fans her face, a dramatic flare that she doesn’t even realize she’s doing. “I think I'm going to pass out.”
you, used to and recognizing her said dramatics, don’t respond. but leon fully begins to freak out, eyes widening as he eases towards your best friends pacing form—large hands that minutes ago were down your pants, held out cautiously.
“you need sit down.”
lauren holds her hand up, halting your boyfriend in his tracks. “no, I can't—this is too much.” she begins fanning herself again, “when did this start happening?”
“what part?”
you shoot him a half stern look, “leon.”
“how many parts are there?”
“well we kissed when you locked us in your bedroom.” leon says often handily, like he didn’t just drop the biggest bomb on this entire situation.
lauren gasps again—because what do you mean you guys kissed before the wedding? before today. “what?!” she all but squawks, big blue eyes darting between the two of you like you’ve just committed a crime.
she pauses, thinking back on that moment when she’d let you and leon out of her bedroom that day many weeks ago. were your lips swollen? was leon’s hair a mess? were you guys kissing when the door was opened?
it’s hard for lauren to recall when leon’s deep, gravely voice continues—“and we hooked up in muskoka.”
another gasp, louder and sharper than ever as lauren spins on her heels, focusing her attention solely on you—which really works in her favour considering leon is still half naked.
“I knew it started at the wedding! god, I didn't even consider leon. and for good reason! I thought you guys hated each other.”
“we did!” you confirm.
“actually for the record,” leon interjects cautiously, “I never hated her.”
“of course you didn’t.” lauren lets out a disbelieving sigh, running a small hand over her makeup free face while digesting the flurry of emotions coursing through her.
she looks between you both once again, a softer expression beginning to take over her sharp features. “so you guys are..?”
you swallow, “dating.”
“like dating dating.”
you cringe at the highschool tone of it all, giving leon a wtf squint. “were in love,” you elaborate after a second, eyes slowly falling back in line with your best friend.
she makes a noise, “oh god, this is like straight out of a romance novel. I kind of feel like i've got whiplash.” lauren rolls her lips together, “why did you guys hide this from me?”
the vulnerability lacing her words makes your heart squeeze, and the way her eyebrows draw upwards like a sad cartoon character only amplifies the feeling.
regardless of the guilt rattling your bones, you and leon had good reason for keeping the beginning stages of your relationship a secret—not just from lauren, but from everyone. reasons you immediately begin rattling off, and this time the panic is in your voice.
“it was your wedding! and for the first little bit we didn't know how to navigate everything.”
leon chimes in before you can blink, coming to your defense like he’s been doing for years—since before you even realized he was doing so. “and we spent years bickering and fighting and we just wanted to keep everything in the down low until we found our rythym.”
“yeah, and it just felt good—we were just ours.” you exhale loudly, running a hand over the flat of your stomach as if to soothe the wave of nausea, your eyes never once parting from your best friends. “i'm sorry, lauren.”
she nods, a natural glint in her eyes. “you guys are some of my best friends. i'm not mad...I just wish you felt like you could've told me.”
“I was a shitty friend,” you admit gently, chewing the skin of your cheek anxiously.
it’s instantly that lauren waves your comment off, padding on the carpeted bedroom floor to close to space between you. and she just hugs you, so tightly that it almost hurts, but you wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“no, you could never be,” she mutters, “and this will definitely take me at least a week to digest but...i'll get over it.” the playful tone that lauren usually possesses eases back into her voice. “you guys look hot together.”
you practically snort, “thanks.”
she hums before her eyes drift back towards your boyfriend. “now leon please put your pants back on.”
“don't have to tell me twice,” leon breathes, already retrieving his discarded jeans from under your bed frame, tugging them up his thick legs in a way that makes you drool.
lauren pulls back from the hug, her small hands still holding onto your arms as a excitable grin pulls at the corner of her plump lips. “okay, now, tell me how leon confessed that he loved you.”
“oh god.” leon groans from behind the material of his t-shirt, only half way over his head.
but you just match her grin, thinking back to the night under the stars and the warm muskoka air. “you're going to die!”
it’s only a week after lauren forcing her way into your apartment and quite literally exposing you and a half naked leon into spilling the beans about your relationship, that connor finds out.
which, you’re surprised lauren didn’t spill the beans before then, especially considering her and her husband are still in that lovey dovey newly wed phase that makes them literally do and share every single thing with one another.
not that you can really say anything about being in a honeymoon phase, because you and leon are so deep in it that it’s almost embarrassing—you can’t recall a day since that night in muskoka that you haven’t been touching or kissing leon in some way.
anyways.
you and leon both decided that telling connor needed to be more of a formal conversation—compared to the way lauren found out, for example. so, you planned a dinner at leon’s condo and invited the happy couple over.
lauren, obviously sitting on this secret was practically buzzing on the way over in the passenger seat—connor sending his wife curious looks at every red light. but lauren only just grinned back at him like a cheshire cat.
it was kind of freaky.
and you and leon tried—really tried to get it right. dinner was in the oven on the keep warm setting, consisting home made chicken and veggies and potatoes that you drizzled with an amount of butter that would have the oilers nutritionists frowning, while you waited for them.
but it all started when leon reached above you to grab the plates, his hand enclosing around your hip and giving it a firm squeeze. half hard against your ass.
so really it’s your boyfriends fault, because soon enough you were making out on the kitchen island like horny teenagers.
you’ve got your legs wrapped around leon’s thick waist, hands running through his hair while he paws at your ass and legs. kissing like it’s the oxygen you need to keep breathing. and in a way, that’s what it feels like.
because this version of leon drasitial—hell, even the version you thought despised your guts just as much as he did beer nuts—is truly your lifeline. and yeah, he is the air you breathe. he’s the sun and the moon and you love him more than anything.
and leon loves the colour red now. especially when it’s your red nails tickling his arm while you watch a movie together. when it’s your red lips kissing his cheek in the lazy morning light. your red sweatpants that you always leave on his bathroom floor.
too wrapped up in one another to hear the door open, you’re completely oblivious to the sound of lauren and connor toeing off their shoes, only a half wall between you.
all you can hear is your thumping heart.
all leon can hear is your little breathy sighs.
until—"I knew they didn't actually hate each other."
lauren half laughs, half gawks as you and leon separate. she eyes her husband in disbelief—connor doesn’t even look phased. no, if anything he looks content.
like he knew. and not in the way lauren knew. but like, actually had a real gut feeling about their best friends.
"was I the only clueless one?" lauren questions, watching as you slip off the counter top, adjusting your frilly top as you do so—previously roughed up from leon’s wondering hands.
you send her a look, wincing at her question. clearly, that means yes.
but connor just shrugs, walking further into the delicious smelling kitchen. the oilers captain picks a grape off the vine sitting in the large fruit bowl, popping it in his mouth.
"nah, they were both clueless about each other's feelings for like…7 years. you pale in comparison to that."

Vacation Eyes
because my brain never rests and i can’t be stopped, i not only found a new hockey to add to my ever growing lists of favorites but OF COURSE a fic idea followed not that far behind. this little blurb was inspired by ‘vacation eyes’ by the jonas brothers and leon’s guest appearance on this podcast where they say he showed up at all star a little “sunburnt” (yes, that’s all it took for me to start writing this).
hope you enjoy!! feedback is always appreciated! xx

You’ve never been to heaven, but this has to be as close as you’ll ever get on Earth.
The last rays of the warm sun colors the sky a beautiful mixture of orange and pinks as it sinks below the horizon and the moon rises. The beach is quiet except for the calming sound of the ocean waves hitting the shore a few feet away. Two fruity cocktails sit on a table right next to the round, oversized beach lounger underneath a big umbrella.
You’re nestled between Leon’s legs, back against his naked chest. His large hand is splayed across your bare stomach, the newly placed gold band on his ring finger glinting in the fleeting sunlight which brings a soft smile to your face. His head rests atop yours besides when he presses sweet kisses to your shoulders and cheeks.
It’s paradise. An absolute dream. And there’s an indescribable sense of happiness and love currently filling your heart with each passing second.
Honeymooning in Turks and Caicos had been all Leon’s idea, but you’re so glad he convinced you this was the right place to go immediately after your wedding. The bright sun and tropical temperature was a stark difference to the usual weather in Edmonton, even if it’s currently summertime.
Since arriving two days ago, you have done plenty of things on the islands. Candlelit dinners on the beach, exploring the tourist attractions and hours upon hours tangled up together underneath the sheets. After such an amazing and romantic wedding back home where you were surrounded by both of your families and friends plus Leon’s teammates, spending the quiet time alone on the breathtaking beach is wonderful.
A content sigh escapes past your lips at the thought of the night not too long ago when you finally tied the knot. You can feel Leon smile into your hair as he chuckles softly and you intertwine your fingers with his. The gorgeous diamond ring he picked out for you on perfect display in the glow of the sunlight.
You’re married. Leon, the most incredible man you’ve ever known, let alone had the pleasure of loving, is your husband. Your husband. The concept still feels foreign to you as it’s still very new, but you couldn’t be any happier that you are lucky enough to love him for the rest of your life.
After everything the two of you have been through together from the long nights to lengthy time apart to balancing each other’s busy lives, it’s led you to right here. And every single bit of it was worth it.
“Leon?” Your voice is soft and for a second, you wonder if he even hears you speak.
“Hm?” He hums in response, pressing his cheek against the side of your head which makes you giggle at the feeling of his scruff against your skin.
“Do you think it’s always going to feel like this?”
“Feel like what, meine liebe?” A soft smile tugs at the corners of your lips at the sweet pet name. My love. You’ll never get tired of that.
“Like all of this is a dream and nothing can ever go wrong because everything is just absolutely perfect.” You can feel this smile as he presses a kiss to your temple and your heart practically melts.
“Yeah, I think it’s always going to feel like this.” Leon answers honestly and you can hear the awe in every word he says.
“It’s kind of crazy we even made it here though.” The thought is out of your mouth before you realize it, but Leon chuckles. That familiar sense of happiness only he brings into your life spreads through you and you squeeze his hand as a silent reminder that this is your real life.
“It is. But I wouldn’t trade any of what we went through to make it here because now I get to spend the rest of my life with you. That’s all I’ve wanted since I met you.”
Warmth spreads through you at his words and you carefully sit up in order to turn around and face him. Your legs settle on either side of his hips as you straddle him and the grin adoring Leon’s face can only be compared to sunshine. His hands settle on your hips, his thumbs rubbing small circles into the skin right above where your bikini bottoms rest. Your boy looks beautiful in the orange glow of the setting sun. His cheeks are a little pinker than usual thanks to the slight sunburn he’s already sporting and his hair is tousled just enough to look messy in a put together way, but he’s never looked so good before.
“Mein geliebter,” You murmur, as Leon’s smile grows upon hearing the familiar sweet words. My beloved. You cup his cheeks in your hands and lean in to kiss him with an overwhelming amount of love. “I love you so much. I cannot wait to see what our future holds together as husband and wife.”
“I love you too.” Leon replies, his voice soft and gentle. His green eyes never waver from yours which only adds to the feeling of want that’s slowly but surely building. “And let me think, I’m not a future teller, but,” He chuckles with a sweet smile before kissing your forehead. “I’d say there might be a few kids in our future, hopefully a Cup or two that I get to hoist with you, a lot more trips like this and maybe Bowie gets a new friend too.”
The brightest laugh escapes your lips as you shake your head at him. You have thought about and dreamed of all those things too. Even before you got engaged and married, those topics have been a center of many conversations over the years. And now, you’re that much closer to those dreams becoming a reality.
Leon leans over for his drink and hands you yours as well. He places a sweet kiss to the side of your head before meeting your gaze once again. Your heart skips at a beat like it always does when the love of your life is looking at you like he is right now.
“To us,” Leon says softly, a tender smile gracing his lips.
“To us.” You respond, clinking your glass against his before you both take a long sip of the fruity drinks to finish off the toast.
“Now,” Your husband starts as that familiar smirk blossoms right before your eyes. He places his glass down on the table once again and his hands begin to wander across your stomach and thighs until they rest on your ass. “I hate to ruin the moment, but there is a balcony in our room that we haven’t properly gotten to use yet.” Leon finishes, his voice dropping a little lower and you feel the fire burning in your belly. You still can’t help but laugh at him a little though.
“You’re such a boy.”
“I’m lucky you love me.”
“You sure are.” You giggle, leaning in to kiss him again. And it doesn’t matter that you’ll eventually have to leave this gorgeous island and return to normal life that includes the usual flurry of offseason plans because all you’re focused on is making the most of this precious time with the man who will be by your side for the rest of your life.

[5.1k] the thing between you and leon was just for convenience sake. that was all it was and all it ever would be. obviously fucking the same person for a prolonged period of time wouldn't lead to feelings or anything like that. right? (smutty themes included)
.
Look, Leon never claimed he made smart decisions off the ice.
It was different when he was on the ice. He was good on the ice, excellent even. He had shelves of trophies to prove as much. There was a reason he won those trophies, there was a reason he had earned his contract and there was a reason he was seen as one of the best players in the league, even whilst playing with Connor fucking McDavid every single night.
Leon was really fucking smart when it came to hockey. It was just everything else he seemed to have a problem with.
Case and point? The fact he was currently driving one and a half hours after a late afternoon game to meet you at some dodgy motel where there would be less of a chance of him being recognised than he would in Edmonton.
Not the smartest decision.
The fact this had been an ongoing arrangement for the last few months also further proved this was not a smart decision in the slightest.
But truthfully, Leon could not bring himself to regret his far-from-smart decisions because the pros definitely outweigh the cons, quality over quantity or whatever the saying was. Because god knows the relationship between the two of you came with way more cons: the distance, the commute, the fact you were a fucking Flames fan.
It was, by all definitions of the word, the furthest thing from convenient for him and yet he was still making the drive to Red Deer against his better judgement.
You were already there. He had just gotten out of the shower, the exhaustion from the game and the press conference already settling deep in his bones when he opened his phone to find a picture waiting for him, one of you sprawled out on a bed—a bed which he recognised easily by the same ugly sheets the motel used in every room.
Leon hated the way his stomach flipped at the sight of them, at the knowledge that you were there waiting for him.
He had tried not to think about what he was doing too much, but it was hard to avoid when Connor gave him an odd look after he phoned his dog-sitter and asked if he wouldn’t mind popping over to make sure Bowie got his afternoon walk and some dinner. He also tried to ignore the looks of confusion he got from the rest of the team as he waved off the offer of celebratory drinks after a shut-out win against the Blue Jackets.
If he was being honest, Leon’s way of coping with this whole thing was to avoid a lot of details.
It seemed to be working so far.
The drive to Red Deer felt like muscle memory by this point. It was almost therapeutic, to let his brain mostly shut off and relax after such a fast-paced, high adrenaline game. It was nice to just clutch the wheel and follow the signs down, knowing that you were waiting for him at the end of the journey.
He could have snorted the second he walked through the motel room door, the key still in one hand as he pushed it open and found you sprawled on the bed—unfortunately clothed, unlike the photo you had sent him earlier.
“Playing hard to get?”
Your lips twitched as you pushed yourself to sit up on the bed, shuffling until you were perched on the end. “Not everything is about you, Draisaitl,” you mused, watching as he closed and locked the door behind him. “You were taking your time and this room is fucking freezing.”
“It’s almost like the only thing I had planned in my diary was a game today,” Leon deadpanned. “No secret meetups penciled in.”
“Hm, should have guessed you would want your ego stroked after a game like that,” you retorted, watching as he began to shrug off the suit jacket he wore with his game day suit. “Want me to tell you how good you did, baby?”
Leon rolled his eyes. “You watched?”
You shrugged. “I got curious, wanted to see what all the hype was about.”
“Hm,” Leon hummed, tugging impatiently at his tie until he was able to pull it over his head. His fingers were already moving to the buttons of his shirt. “And what was your conclusion?”
“You play alright,” you commented, your lips twitching like you were trying to fight back your own grin. “Slightly disappointed by tonight’s performance though.”
Leon raised his brows. “Two goals and an assist weren’t enough for you?”
“I was looking for a hat trick,” you said, and this time you did grin.
“Brat,” Leon huffed, not quite fond but something else positive, lustful, desired even.
“You love it,” you countered, eyes sparkling.
He didn’t even bother to deny it as he leaned down, both hands engulfing your face as he kissed you, hard and fast and desperate, like the long drive down had finally caught onto him and his patience.
“Clothes off,” he muttered between kisses, hissing a little when your teeth playfully nipped his lip.
“Gonna warm me up?” You taunted, leaning back enough to pull your hoodie over your head and throw it somewhere on the floor beside his abandoned tie and shirt.
He groaned, his nose scrunching up. “That was a horrible line.”
“Yeah, but you’re still gonna fuck me,” you retorted, looking far too smug for his liking.
The worst part was that you were right.
“Leaving already?”
“I need to get back to Bowie.”
“Give him my love.”
“I will not be doing that.”
“Rude.”
Leon wasn’t exactly going out of his way to hide the fact he was sleeping with someone on a regular basis.
It would be a stupid thing to try and hide when he knew each of his teammates had working eyes and would very much be able to see the scratches and marks left all over his body following his latest meetup with you.
“Oi! Oi! Someone had a fun night!”
Leon barely reacted anymore, simply letting the cheers and catcalls echo through the locker room as he focused on gearing up for practice. It was inevitable, it was something he had dealt with since the start of his relationship with you—if whatever the two of you had could even be considered a relationship.
“I’ve been looking for a new place to take Lauren for date night.”
Leon paused, turning to look at Connor with his brows furrowed together. He waited for the boy to continue but he never did. “Okay?”
Connor was still looking at him expectantly. “Any recommendations?”
“No?” Though, it came out sounding like a question. Mostly because it was a question, because Leon was kind of confused why this was a necessary topic of conversation before early morning skate. “Am I meant to know a place?”
Connor blinked. “I assumed wherever you went after the game on Tuesday.”
Leon frowned. “I didn’t go out to eat after Tuesday’s game.”
“But you phoned your dog-sitter,” Connor pointed out, though he didn’t sound accusatory. He had that look on his face, the same one that Leon often saw on the ice when he was trying to work out a play before it even happened.
“I did,” Leon nodded, because there was no point in denying it when Connor had overheard the conversation. “Pretty sure he doesn't have any date spot recommendations either.”
Connor’s eyes narrowed and Leon swore he could hear the cogs in his brain whirling and turning. But Leon was stubborn and a little petty and he didn’t give handouts, not even to Connor. So he stood there, staring back at his friend with a fairly blank expression.
“Interesting,” Connor said eventually before turning back to his stall to get ready for practice.
Leon pretended to ignore the way the tightness in his chest loosened when Connor dropped the topic.
“The motel could be a good date night spot, you never know.”
“I know for a fact we saw a rat in the bathtub once.”
“Yeah, and you screamed like a little girl.”
“I screamed the appropriate way for a rat the size of a small dog.”
“Bowie could take that rat.”
“I would never let Bowie near that monster.”
Despite every piece of advice he had ever been given from the veterans before him, roadies didn’t really get easier.
After a while, the non-descriptive hotel rooms with scratchy sheets and stiff pillows became a part of the routine. It was a part of his job, the same way early morning practices and bag skates were. He didn’t like it, he could do without it but he had learnt to accept it very early on in his career.
Still, there were some nights on the road where the room was too uncomfortable for Leon to settle down.
They had flown in early for their east coast roadie, having a full day and night in Florida before their game the following night. The others had headed out for dinner, wanting to enjoy the heat whilst they could but Leon had waved them off when they extended the offer to him. He was tired and still a little grumpy from the small nap he managed on the turbulent flight down. He wanted his bed more than anything, but the hotel one would have to do.
Except, Florido was humid.
It was humid and hot and his clothes were sticking to his body. But the air conditioning in the hotel room was stuck at a temperature that made the room frigid. And the fucking feeling of the sheets against his skin made him feel like he was seconds away from biting his own arm off if the starchiness didn’t stop feeling so starchy against him.
He hadn’t even realised what he was doing until the rings were going through.
“I hope you’re wearing something sexy for me.”
Despite his pissy mood, Leon did find himself snorting a little.
“Put on my tightest pair of boxers just for you,” he mused, swallowing back the biting complaints as he tried to settle back onto the bed.
“Yeah? Gonna mess them up for me, big boy?”
“God,” Leon groaned but he was smiling. “I don’t even know why I bother sometimes.”
But you laughed and the sound settled something inside him. “I bet they have little Oilers logos on them too.”
Leon grinned a little. “Is that something you’re into? Want me to dress up for you?”
“I would burn them if you wore them in front of me.”
“If you wanted me naked, you just had to ask,” Leon retorted, his eyes falling shut as you scoffed on the other side of the phone.
“Are you naked now?”
“Do you want me to be?”
“Do I want to listen to you jerk off to my fantasies of burning your Oilers boxers? Can’t imagine anything hotter, Draisaitl.”
Leon hated the way his dick twitched at your words anyways, the way something stirred in his stomach at the idea of you being so desperate to get his clothes off and to have him sprawled out naked and waiting for you. He didn’t tend to like handing over control, but he thinks his curiosity would win out when it came to you.
“Talk dirty to me, baby. Tell me your sexy, arsonistic dreams.”
“Be honest. Do your boxers have little Oilers logos on them?”
“I am not even dignifying that question with an answer.”
“I’ll wear a Flames thong, we can match.”
“I promise you I will not fuck you if you wear any sort of Flames merchandise around me. Instant turn off.”
“Liar.”
Even though Red Deer was a beloved meet up spot for the both of you, Leon wasn’t stupid enough to ignore the obvious opportunity to meet up after a Battle of Alberta game.
Your apartment was one Leon had become familiar with, even though this was technically the first time he had ever stepped foot into it. It felt a little surreal as he walked through the doorway, sliding off his boots and looking around at the apartment that had been the backdrop for more Facetimes than he could even remember.
His eyes lingered on the couch as a vague memory came to mind, of seeing you sprawled over it with your hand between your legs and your head thrown back as you came for him over the phone after a particularly rough game against LA.
“You just gonna stand there all day?”
“Maybe,” Leon answered, not seeming to be in any rush as he continued to glance around your apartment before turning to face you. “I wanted to see what my options were for the night.”
You raised your brows.
“What? Backing out of our bet now?” Leon mused, feeling his stomach twist in delight at the way your eyes instantly narrowed in defiance. You were going to be difficult tonight, bratty even.
Good. He liked that. He wanted that.
“You were so confident your Flames would win,” Leon continued, the name tasting like acid on his tongue as he hissed it out. His eyes were glued to you, taking slow steps towards you and feeling a thrill of excitement at the way you refused to back down. “A shame they couldn’t win.”
“They would have,” you said, just to push his buttons, just to piss him off. “Bad calls can really determine a game.”
A muscle in his jaw twitched. “Bad calls don’t mean shit when they can’t get the puck in the back of the net.”
Your eyes darted down to his lips as he stood in front of you. “And you did?”
“Twice,” Leon grinned, sharklike and dangerous and yet, it still didn’t stop you from darting forward to press your lips against his.
Leon was shameless with the groan he let out as he pressed you against the wall, as he tucked his leg between yours and wound his arms around you so he could press you against his body. He was shameless in the way he kissed you, fast and passionate and needy and desperate. He was shameless in the way he muttered what he wanted to do with you, in the way he wanted you, in the stupid deal you had goaded him into a few hours before the game.
It was a herculean task to pull yourselves away from the wall and let you pull him towards your bedroom, but it was worth it once the two of you had managed to tear your clothes off and get on the bed. Leon allowed himself one, two, three seconds to stare at the sight of you spread out on the bed before he crawled over you and completely engulfed your body with his own.
“And that—” You let out a small whine as his teeth nipped the spot behind your ear. “—power play in the second was a bullshit call and we both fucking know it.”
“Fuck,” Leon groaned, his lips pressing short, chaste kisses down the length of your neck. “Do you ever shut up?”
“Thought you liked my mouth open,” you retorted, breathless and smug and, fuck, if it wasn’t infuriatingly hot to him. As if it wasn’t that damn mouth that was the reason he kept this going when it was far from easy or convenient.
“I like it full,” he corrected, lifting his head to watch the way you tucked your bottom lip between your teeth. “I like it when you’re too fucked out to talk.”
Your eyes gleamed with interest. “Then guess you better hurry up. I’ve been hearing a lot of promises since you walked through that door.”
His eyes narrowed slightly. “Keep your hands above your head. Don’t move.”
“Is this you cashing in your reward from the bet?” You asked, playful and teasing but still obedient as you reached up to grip the wooden bars of your headboard. “That's all you want from me? To not touch you?”
Winner gets to do whatever they want for the night.
Leon grinned and it made your stomach twist in delight. “Be good and you’ll find out just what I want and what I will get from you.”
“Is that a teddy?”
“Don’t judge Quacks, he’s been with me through a lot.”
“He is staring into my soul.”
“He is a good judge of character and he says you’re pissy.”
“Sounds like a very judgemental duck.”
“You two can bond over it.”
Somewhere along the line, the visits to that dodgy motel in Red Deer started to lessen.
Leon wasn’t sure when or why but…it just started to happen. It almost felt natural though, something he tried not to think about too deeply. He had just come off one of their longest roadies of the season yet—one that unfortunately resulted in more losses than wins—and he was keyed up, pissed off and in desperate need of some sort of distraction.
But despite the two days off following the roadie, the idea of sitting in his car to drive down to Red Deer and back just for the sake of a few hours (at most) felt tiring and annoying and just…so much work.
You had laughed over the phone when Leon had said as much, not sounding all that bothered or surprised by his pissy attitude. If the messages and late night calls shared during the roadie were anything to go by, you had watched the games and knew just how bad the team was playing lately.
“Want me to come up and kiss the shitty games better?”
“That’s a three hour drive,” he found himself saying in response. “Both ways.”
You snorted. “Wow, you wouldn’t even let me stay the night? Maybe chivalry is dead.”
And that…fuck, Leon didn’t realise how badly he wanted that until you said.
“You should come,” he blurted out. “Come and stay over.” And after a few moments of silence, he added, “I don’t have anything for a few days either.”
Leon wasn’t sure what he expected to come of the offer, but it was a little too late once you had accepted the offer. You messaged him once you were on the road. You sent another when you briefly stopped at Red Deer, taking a picture of your usual motel and sending it with a ‘missing the musty smell already’. You ended up sending your location for the rest of the journey, claiming you couldn’t be bothered to message when you were nearby and that he could just watch your location if he was that desperate to know.
He didn’t admit that he watched your pin move closer and closer to his house for the last fifteen minutes of your drive.
Leon kind of expected it to be awkward when you arrived, for the regret to hit and for the heavy realisation to settle that he had let someone else into his space for a prolonged amount of time.
That never happened. If anything, it was more unsettling to realise just how easily you slipped into his life at home, to see how quickly Bowie accepted you.
If anything, it made him realise how much he wished the two of you had done this sooner.
“Never took you to be the kinda guy to wine and dine a girl.”
“Fuck off.”
“Do you kiss Bowie with that mouth?”
“No, but I did make you come three—”
“Nuh uh! Not when Bowie can hear, he has innocent ears.”
The trips to Red Deer became nonexistent and instead were replaced with a back and forth of trips between Edmonton and Calgary.
Now, as stupid as his decisions off the ice may be, Leon wasn’t oblivious. He knew that this went beyond the original convenience excuse the two of you had thrown around at the start of this relationship. He knew that no normal person in a ‘sex only’ relationship was driving three hours just to spend a few days with their ‘sex only’ partner. He knew that this was far beyond the original agreement the two of you had agreed to in that dingy Calgary bar after the Oilers lost abysmally.
But Leon was more than happy to avoid voicing those realisations out loud for as long as he got to keep everything going the way it was.
Because he liked how things were, despite the initial confusion, and he was unashamedly selfish like that to know that he wasn’t letting it go until he had to.
And if lying to his teammates to get out of team bonding after a ten day roadie so he could be home when you came over was a part of that? Then so be it.
He missed you.
“You’re acting like it’s been a million years,” Leon commented, closing the door behind you and placing your bag to the side (rather than the spot in the middle of the entryway you had chosen).
“It has been a million years,” you said from your spot on the floor, your legs crossed and Bowie happily licking your face. “I’ve been deprived of seeing my favourite boy.”
Leon rolled his eyes, though it seemed fond. “He misses you too. Pretty sure he recognises your voice through the phone now. He looks extremely disappointed when he goes to the door and you’re not there.”
“Because he’s the smartest boy!” You cooed at the fluffy dog on your lap, grinning widely as he continued to whine and yip happily at you.
Leon chose to ignore the way his chest tightened at the sight.
“Did you only miss him?” Leon found himself asking, because apparently he had reached the point of being jealous of his own damn dog.
The amusement was clear on your face when you lifted your head, that grin now directed completely at him. “I never took the Leon Draisaitl to be one to go fishing for compliments.”
Leon all but huffed. “I am not fishing, I am asking.”
“Because you missed me?” You asked, sounding even more amused.
“I regret opening the door.”
“Liar,” you beamed at him, moving Bowie off your lap (who was not happy with the sudden shift in attention) and pushed yourself back onto your feet until you were in front of Leon, arms wound around his neck as you placed an obnoxiously loud, smacking kiss onto his cheek. “Better?”
“You’re getting there,” he said, trying to sound dismissive and unbothered but the smile growing on his face didn’t help.
You shook your head, almost looking as fond as he felt. “Hurry up and kiss me then, Draisaitl, it’s been a million years.”
Leon rolled his eyes, but he happily complied.
“That goal in the third against the Kings was hot.”
“You watched?”
“You sound surprised whenever I tell you I watch your games.”
“The game was on at the same time as the Flames game.”
“Yeah but the Flames game didn’t have your grumpy face on the screen.”
Leon realised that things had to change when Connor, of all people, was the one pointing out just how long this stupid thing between the both of you had been going on.
Not on purpose, which somehow made the whole thing ten times worse.
The thrill of hate sex hadn’t been a solid excuse for the relationship between you two after the third or fourth hookup. No hate sex was that good to commute for it, no matter what anybody says. And the convenience argument quickly followed, even if the two of you clung onto it with both hands in the early months of the relationship.
And as the relationship grew and bloomed, you both seemed happy enough to ignore labelling it all together.
Which was pretty fucking stupid, when Leon really thought about it. Even more so when Connor was the one connecting the dots for him.
“So.”
Leon didn’t even bother looking up, his gaze focused on his skates as muscle memory took over, looping and tightening the laces on his skates before practice. “So?”
“It’s almost been a year,” Connor said, standing in front of Leon’s stall with half of his gear on and his hands on his hips. “And I respect that you want to keep your privacy but…”
Leon paused, looking up at Connor with his brows furrowed. “What?”
“I thought we were friends,” Connor frowned. “Good friends.”
Leon blinked. “We are? What’s that got to do with anything?”
Connor stared at him like he was the one going crazy. “So you’re going to finally bring her over for dinner on Sunday? Lauren wants to meet her too.”
Leon blinked again. “Who?”
Connor sighed, heavy and exasperated. “Your girlfriend, Leon. The one you have been hiding away for the last year.”
And, in that moment, Leon had come to a handful of realisations that were not ideal to deal with a few minutes before a hard practice on the run up to playoffs. Especially not when it had been triggered by words from the ‘more robot than human’ Connor McDavid.
He hadn’t realised the whole thing between you both had been going on for almost a year. He hadn’t realised the people around him were that observant, that they figured out he had been seeing the same person rather than random flings during the season like he had done in previous years. He hadn’t realised how much he wanted to call you his girlfriend until he realised he couldn’t look Connor in the eyes and say with conviction that yes, you were in fact his girlfriend.
Leon realised a lot.
“Raincheck?” Leon blurted out before he could stop himself, filing away the epiphany and Connor’s disappointed captain face to the back of his mind for the remainder of the practice so he didn’t deck it on the ice.
He was the first one out of the locker room after practice before Connor could catch him again.
“Hey, you’re still coming over this weekend, right?”
“Uh, yeah, just like we planned. Why? Did something come up?”
“Yes. No! No, it didn’t. I just…I just need to talk to you about something.”
“How ominous.”
Leon had probably paced the distance to Germany and back around his living room by the time you arrived, much to Bowie’s displeasure as he watched from his spot on the couch with only slightly judgemental eyes.
In the days since his conversation with Connor, most of his thoughts had been surrounding what he wanted to say to you. He wasn’t stupid enough to think you didn’t feel something for him, he knew you had to or you wouldn’t be driving up to Edmonton every other week to see him. But he didn’t know if you would want more, he didn’t know if you would want a label.
He didn’t know if pointing out the very thing the two of you had been ignoring for the last year was going to completely fuck it up and, selfishly, he really did not want to lose you.
It was almost ironic that you didn’t even knock on the door when you arrived, using the damn spare key he gave you to walk straight into the house like it was normal. Because it was normal for the two of you, it had been normal for months.
And yet, the only thing Leon could say as you walked through the door was, “where is your bag?”
“In the car,” you said as you closed the door behind you but made no move to take your jacket off or even pull your boots off.
Suddenly, Leon felt on edge. “Why didn’t you bring it in?”
You stayed where you were, too far away from him, too far away for him to reach out for you. “Is there a reason for me to bring it in?”
“I—” Leon frowned, his chest twisting uncomfortably. “What? Of course there is. You’re staying the weekend, no?”
“Am I?” You asked, your hands clenched into tight fists by your side. Your voice was shaky, unsure. He had never heard it like that before, and he never wanted to hear it like that ever again. Especially when it came to him. “Because from the way you’ve been acting the last few days, it feels like you are just trying to let me down nicely and it’s—”
“I want to be your boyfriend,” Leon blurted out.
You stared at him, lips parted in surprise.
“I—fuck, I had a whole thing I was meant to say before that,” Leon grumbled to himself, shaking his head as he closed the distance between you both. And for the first time in days, his head felt clear as he stood in front of you, his hands cupping your face because he needed to be touching you before he felt like his whole body would explode. “We are so far past this whole convenience bullshit.”
You snorted despite yourself, your lips twitching upwards as your hands reached for him. “Yeah, I think we got past that after the reception lady at the Red Deer motel asked us if we knew we had collected enough membership points to get a room free for a whole weekend.”
Leon didn’t even bother holding his smile back. “I want this. I want you. I want to tell people that you’re my girlfriend.” He paused, his nose scrunching up a little. “Well, not everyone. They can mind their own business, but the people that matter. I want to tell them that you’re my girl, even if you’re a fucking Flames fan, and I’m yours.”
You rolled your eyes. “I’m not a Flames fan. Not really. Not anymore.”
Leon raised his brows. “Finally joined the better side?”
“My boyfriend put up a really convincing argument,” you said, your hands twisting the fabric of his hoodie between your fingers before you pulled him closer.
“Your boyfriend sounds like a smart man,” Leon murmured, surprised he could even hear himself talk over the sound of his thumping chest.
“Eh, I’m only really with him for his dog,” you teased, laughing as Leon groaned and tugged you closer.
“Brat,” he grumbled against your lips, trying (and failing) to hide the fondness in his voice as he leaned down to kiss you.
“You love it,” you retorted.
Leon’s face softened as he pulled back enough to look at you. “Yeah. I do.”
“Let me get this straight, you only realised you wanted me to be your girlfriend because of Connor?”
“Shut up.”
“Wow, baby, you got love advice from McJesus.”
“Please stop talking about Connor whilst you are naked in my bed.”

I Got You - Leon Draisaitl
You couldn't breath, it felt like the walls were closing in, you were sitting at your kitchen island trying to finish a work project when the anxiety kicked in and you felt tears streaming down your face.
You heard the door open and close and you realized that your boyfriend had just arrived home from a road trip. He must've heard your sobs because he came running into the kitchen and held you so tight and wouldn't let you go.
"I got you baby" he said as he lead you over to the couch and sat next to you.
"Breathe with me y/n, everything will be alright" as he helped you calm down.
When you started to calm down he asked you what was wrong.
"Everything leon, work is driving me crazy, I can't do it anymore" you choked out.
"Hey hey hey it's okay, it'll work out, let's go take a bath and go to bed, it's late." Leon suggested.
"Thank you baby" you said to him as he hugged you and held you.
He was your everything, you wouldn't know what to do without him. He always knows how to calm you down and help you in your darkest times.
send in requests
Remember to always love yourself :)
